Kelly Piquet Master Timeline - Amendment 1 (Some things I missed the first time around)
(Masterlist)
Hey y'all! Welcome to the first amendment for the Kelly timeline! In these amendments, I will be adding things that happened during already-published parts of the timeline, but did not add before for a variety of reasons (not knowing about it, not having proof for it before, etc).
Sorry this took a bit to release. I've been dealing with a bit of irl stuff this past week that took my attention away from working on Max/Kelly things aside from updates to the timeline. In fact, you might have seen me crack on Twitter over it! Yay!
By the way, you may notice some repeats from the official timeline. Those are events that I did cover in the original, but with new information/context that I initially missed.
Let's go!
As always, you can find the full timeline here.
A new person has entered the grid!
Christiano “Tuka” Rocha: A former Brazilian race car driver Kelly considers her first love. The two would remain in touch until his tragic death in a plane crash in 2019.

March-October, 1999: The 1999 F1 season. Jos serves as a test driver for the Honda Formula 1 Project.

2012
November 10-11, 2012: Max has a series of flirty/amorous exchanges with former world karting champion Laura Tillett on Twitter. She is 21 and he is 15. (Archive)

2015
September 30, 2015: Max turns 18. He spends the day obtaining his road driving license. He would move to Monaco shortly afterwards. (Archive 1, 2)
Mikaela also posts on Twitter to celebrate Max’s birthday, calling him her “love”. (Archive)
2016
December, 2016: Kelly leaves her job at Formula E. Officially, she claims she resigned because of burnout, mentioning she “was literally on a plane every week” to a new destination. But, unconfirmed rumors claim she was fired for sleeping with a married man. (Archive)
2018
September 14, 2018: Kelly likes an Instagram post by Victoria. This would be her first of many likes on Victoria’s Instagram.
September 23, 2018: Victoria likes an Instagram post by Kelly. This would be her first of many likes on Kelly’s Instagram.
September 30, 2018: Max turns 21. Lando makes an Instagram post wishing him a happy birthday. It is not liked by Max, but it is liked by Kelly.
October, 2018: Kelly likes several more of Lando’s Instagram posts.
Late October-Early November, 2018: Kelly and Daniil’s daughter is conceived.
November 13, 2018: Lando makes an Instagram post celebrating his 19th birthday. It would be liked by Kelly.
2019
January 8, 2019: Lando likes an Instagram post by Kelly. This would turn out to be one of several posts he would like on her account throughout 2019 and 2020, including a post about breastfeeding.
March 17, 2019: Lando makes his F1 debut at the 2019 Australian Grand Prix, driving for McLaren. He would finish in 12th place. At this point, he is 19 years old. (Archive)
On the same day, Victoria likes a post by Kelly. She would proceed to like several more posts on Kelly’s account throughout her pregnancy, with Sophie doing the same on some of the same posts.
November 14, 2019: Tuka is seriously injured in an airplane crash near Bahia, Brazil. (Archive)
November 17, 2019: Tuka succumbs to his injuries sustained in the plane crash at the age of 36. He is memorialized as a hero for trying to save the lives of others in the same crash. (Archive)

December 6, 2019 (Most likely): Kelly and Daniil end their relationship. While Kelly makes a since-deleted Instagram post implying she broke up with Daniil, varioussources claim it was Daniil who broke up with Kelly for a variety of reasons.
2020
Unknown dates, 2020:
Max and Dilara break up. Despite that, Victoria, Sophie, and Jos continue to follow her on Instagram. Daniil would also follow her at a later date.
January 31, 2020: Kelly likes another Instagram post by Max. This would turn out to be one of several posts she would like on his account throughout 2020.
2021
July 16-18, 2021: The 2021 British Grand Prix. During the first lap, Lewis attempts to overtake Max, resulting in the latter retiring and going to the hospital after a collision. Max would be released that same day.. Lewis receives a 10-second penalty, but ultimately wins the race. (Archive)
Initial reports would say Max was unharmed in the collision. But, in subsequent interviews, Max would admit he felt the after-effects of it in races, including blurred vision. (Archive 1, 2)
September 3-5, 2021: The 2021 Dutch Grand Prix. Max achieves poll position and finishes first, starting a three-year winning streak at the race. (Archive)
Kelly leaves the race altogether after qualifying, and Max spends a night at his motorhome on the track. According to speculation, Kelly and Jos had a fight over her sharing photos in his residence. Jos unfollows Kelly on Instagram.
2023
Unknown dates, 2023:
An anonymous Tumblr user makes a summary of the rumors and scandals surrounding Kelly to that point. (Archive)
2024
June 21-23, 2024: The 2023 Spanish Grand Prix. Max starts in P2 and finishes first. This would turn out to be his last Grand Prix victory until November. (Archive)
June 28-30, 2024: The 2024 Austrian Grand Prix. Max finishes first in the Saturday sprint race. This would turn out to be his last victory in general until October. (Archive)
During the second half of the main race, Lando makes multiple attempts to overtake Max. This culminates in a collision when the latter tries to block him. Lando would retire from the damage, and Max would place fifth. (Archive 1, 2)
Of note is that while Kelly posted about Max’s pole positions and sprint win, she would not say anything about the results of the main race.

Hello there!
July is a rainy month here in the mountains, but these fics felt like a ray of sunshine! I’m back with another favorites list, and very proud that I remembered to do this. Let’s go!
A Savior’s Guide to Manners and Decorum - E, 13k by @wolfpants
I think putting Draco Malfoy in any sort of teaching position is a recipe for perfection. So, that was a major factor in my enjoyment of this fic. Everything I’ve read from wolfpants has been incredible (I read Nightcall at least twice a month), and this did NOT disappoint. If you like a bumbling Harry with obscure hobbies, this is the fic for you.
Little Compton Street (One Rainy Night In Soho) - E, 65k by @writcraft and @celilasart for Harry/Draco Big Bang 2018
I saw this fic recommended left and right on the Drarry writers discord, and it’s been sitting in my marked for later forever. And, boy, do I wish I’d read it earlier. The art is BEAUTIFUL. I stared at it for about ten minutes. I’m a sucker for two lost souls finding their calm together in the eye of the storm, and I’ve been yearning for another fic that explores queer history as it pertains to the magical world. In conclusion, this was everything I needed. A rainy night for a rainy season.
Grounds For Divorce - E, 122k by @tepre
This is another one of those fics that I’ve seen recommended everywhere but just hadn’t gotten to yet. Fics that cover long periods of time hold a special place in my heart, and the journey I got to experience while reading this left me breathless by the time I was finished. I can’t wait to read it again.
Up The - E, 7k by @shiftylinguini
I’m not a big mpreg reader, not for any particular reason, but this fic was so sweet. The premise was hilarious and ridiculously fitting for these two. Love an established relationship, love a nutty plan to get pregnant. Loved it.
Faint Indirections - T, 29k by ignatiustrout
It’s so fun whenever I get to explore a new city with this pair. God, this was so fucking hilarious. Watching these two communicate in the least efficient way possible tickled me and I will be thinking about this fic for a very long time.
to be a bit of warmth (for you) - M, 9k by @softlystarstruck
This was just the sweetest thing I’ve read in a very long time. The intimacy, the characterization. How the author managed to pack so much beauty into 10k words is a mystery that I thank god for every day.
on open wounds - M, 16k by asofthaven
extremely loud growling noises (positive.) read this in my honda accord while eating a quesadilla and watching drunk rodeo goers mill about the town square and felt more emotions than i’ve ever felt before in my life. thank you. thank you thank you thank you.
Everybody Hates a Tourist - E, 51k by @wolfpants for @hd-wireless 2023
As I said before, I love getting to explore a city with these two, and watching Harry find himself with a Draco who has built a life for himself is something I will never get sick of. Especially when every bit of it is absolutely baffling for Harry. So excited to find out who wrote this. I enjoyed every second of it. (Should’ve known it was wolfpants! So, so good!)
Well, that’s all for now, folks! These fics helped with my July gloom, and I’m so thankful for all the wonderful writers in this community who gift us these beautiful stories.
See you next month with more recs!
xx, Moon.

Infinity on High
Has it... really been 18 years since I was 18 years old? I'm only now realizing this on the 18th birthday of Infinity on High??? I posted about this in some tags earlier today but I feel like I should expand upon just how important that album was for me.
My uncle/godfather died suddenly around my 18th birthday, and I inherited his car (affectionately named Edgeworth for any IRL friends who remember that car). My uncle loved both playing and listening to music, so the car had a 6-disc CD changer as well as extra speakers installed. The sound in that car was incredible to say the least, especially for someone like me, who had only listened to music on shitty early 2000s computer speakers and even shittier iPod headphones.
I had been introduced to FUTCT and Fall Out Boy in general a year or so earlier when my friends started getting into pop punk. But when Infinity on High came out, that was MY album. The first album from ANY band/musician that I was there for from the moment it released. I heard "Thriller" for the first time at the same time as everyone else and when I say the music on that album rocked my world at 18, I'm not just saying that for dramatic effect. That album solidified FOB as my favorite band for the rest of my life.
The first time I heard Infinity on High, I decided that instead of listening on my computer or iPod, I would use the CD to its full potential and uhhh actually use the CD. I inserted it into tray 3 of the CD changer in my car and just fucking sat there in the driveway listening to at least half the album. I wanna say I stopped after "Thnks fr th Mmrs" because my brain couldn't comprehend how bisexual that song was. I had crushes on girls for the first time that year (and also I was/am a fucking fujoshi), so you can imagine how wild that song was for me.
"Fame<Infamy" is by far my favorite song on that album (fucking.... minute 2:30...). By December of 2007 when I had seen Death Note for the first time, I remember wondering just how insanely well that song fit as a Light Yagami anthem. But anyway, rewinding back to February... I remember it took me exactly three Infinity on High songs to drive to school (and I think four or five to get back home, because of traffic or whatever). But I had the album on repeat for MONTHS. I'm sure you can guess which CDs were in trays 1 and 2, but I barely touched them again until at least the summer of that year.
That summer my friends and I drove out to New Jersey for the Honda Civic Tour. I was the driver, and I remember my friend getting mega pissed that I didn't have a cassette player in my car so she couldn't use the adapter and play music from her iPod. I was like girl, nope. We're playing Infinity on High for the lead up to a concert promoting Infinity on High. In hindsight it's odd that my uncle didn't install a cassette player into that car, but I like to think he was just forward thinking enough to buy all his old faves on CD.
For the rest of that car's lifespan (R.I.P. Edgeworth, 2005-2018), the other 5 CD trays in that changer shuffled between FOB albums and convention road trip mix CDs. But Infinity on High only left tray 3 when I finally had to give up the car.

I have seen some stuff about the Honda going into decline post 2014 and I wanted to ask how accurate that is cause it’s obvious that each year it got slightly worse with the worst being 2019 of you compared Marc’s results to the other Hondas but where did it become Marc masking the issues and does that mean the even if Marc won the championships from 2016-19 doesn’t mean he necessarily had the best bike on the grid. And even in 2021 with the wins that he got. Also how do you define the bbest bike on the grid would it be by combining the bike with the skill of the rider that’s on it or would it be purely looking at the package of the bike.
I answered most of the questions in this ask here, so conveniently I can just link to that lol. in general, I wouldn't characterise honda as a linear downward progression after 2014. they had a rough year in 2015 specifically, but in 2016 the tyre switch and spec electronics was basically a bit of a reset. when we assess how much weaker they got year on year, it is always important to remember that of course this will be relative to the competition... in 2015, honda was second best after yamaha. by 2018 at the very latest, yamaha had slipped back, having fallen behind its competition after the reintroduction of michelins and a failure to keep up in the tech race. instead, it was ducati who were honda's main adversary. when we're assessing what the strongest bike is, ideally we very much are talking about the bike here - and not what the rider is doing, because that's a separate issue and is only relevant to the overall 'package'. however, there is a bit of a complicating factor here: a distinction between how much raw performance it is possible to extract from a bike and how easy it is to extract that raw performance. in 2019, honda did not have a bad bike. you cannot do what marc did that season with a bad bike. it was a very fast bike... in marc's hands. in the post I linked to, I made a rough distinction between a bike being good in the sense of being 'fast', and a bike being good in the sense of being 'rideable':
by 2018 the yamaha is still a considerably more rideable bike than honda, which means more riders can extract a decent amount of performance from it. but its ultimate potential, its raw pace, was pretty mediocre a lot of the time. what honda were able to do is essentially build a bike that catered to one rider alone - and whether that bike is 'better' or 'worse' than the ducati during that same time is a little more up to interpretation. but this was a temporary fix for a set of more deep-rooted problems. marc's development direction certainly didn't help here, though it helped even less when he was gone with injury and honda didn't even have that direction anymore. in 2021, this bike is very much already declining in competitiveness, though not quite yet in free fall like in the years to come. that year, a fully fit marc probably could have done a fair bit more with the bike they had at their disposal. the three victories come at his two specialist circuits, plus at his strongest clockwise circuit where the two factory ducati riders fell off ahead of him (the other circuit where he came close to victory was, of course, aragon). after that season, honda increasingly reached a point where it was not just impossible to ride but also too slow. marc did more frontrunning last season than that bike deserved, but fundamentally he wasn't able to ride that bike in a way that was both fast and in any way sustainable. sometimes, the performance just isn't there to be extracted

Everyone look at my mini mini van I love her so much.....
I traded my 2020 Hyundai Kona in on a 2018 Honda Fit. I loved my old Fit so much I should have just gotten another one right off the bat when my old one was totalled, but oh well. I have one now.
We also got it cheaper than the Kona and a reduced monthly payment so that's gonna give some breathing room that was being eaten up by that stupid Kona.
The Fit has more safety features too, even though it's 2 years older. It has lane assist, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and collision braking (I can't remember the official name but basically if it senses a collision it will brake if I don't brake first)
Anyway I love it, I know it's not super fancy and stuff but it is to ME...
It also can fit one XL ruffland and one (possibly two) intermediates so.... Lots of dog room....

dts s1e3! AND e4
-while they first showed the baku maxiel crash in ep2, i'll talk abt it here bc its more focused on in this episode: -now that i've seen the 2010 turkish grand prix, this to me is so so reminiscent to mark & seb's crash. long term driver vs fresh faced golden boy, red bull ~trying~ to be neutral but clearly favoring the younger one, while in MY opinion in both cases it was max/seb more at fault -so daniel's choices make so much sense through this lense, seeing how history was repeating itself -i must say, 🙌 RESPECTFULLY 🙌 claire williams is a milf. hope she's doing wonderfully nowadays -the way sergey sirotkin is literally invisible i was even like who tf is that. sorry u got chewed up and spit out by the f1 machine buddy -in monaco qualifying its an interesting rewatch bc i actually know how things work, so the lil radio snippets actually make sense to me. interestin -this is the first episode where they have a truly well set up victory narrative. real life doesn't usually fit into this good cookie cutter narrative, but daniel's story in this episode really does that and it rly sets the bar for good dts episodes IN MY OPINION -i know that max in this episode gets pointed to a lot as see???? dts edits max to make him look meaner than he is!! and i just dont think thats the full picture. sure, they only show him being grumpy and rash and immature and they dont show any of his goofier side, but 2018 max WAS a big hothead. i honestly think it makes it narratively better to see how immature and short fused he was in season 1 to compare to how he is now!
episode 4!!
-CYRIL COME HOME THE KIDS MISS YOU -oh my god love being reminded of the iconic daniel conversation with his MOM "have a good race love you" "yeah alright. gangster ✌️" -now knowing hondas history gives so much more insight into the nuance of the red bull-honda deal. with them struggling a team and then selling to brawn, to the mclaren honda deals that went horribly, i see it as so much more of a risk than i ever did first watch -which leads me to DANIEL'S CHOICE MAKING SENSE. sure, in hindsight we can see how it failed horribly but it made sense! from the bottom of my heart i dont believe that red bull wasnt gonna prioritize max, and i'd wanna get out of that too! sure it was risky, but if daniel didnt make the jump, would we be lamenting that he didnt instead? i think either choice would've likely gone downhill anyway :( -the exes trying to be amicable bc they still work together vibes are Hilarious -christian's whole 'cyril is an emotional guy' is fascinating because christian is SO emotional!!! the difference is his main emotion is anger, which men tend to convince themselves ~doesnt count~ -'he needs a driver AND an engine 😂😂😂' ate left no crumbs king behavior

Car Airbags - Do they perfect to your safety from injuries?
In terms of safety features, the automobile industry has come a long way. Nowadays, cars are laced with airbags which makes driving safer for drivers and co-passengers. Airbags come as a passive safety feature available in the car and work in conjunction with seatbelts. They can help you during a sudden collision with faster depletion to save your life. Admire the working of the 2015 Honda Civic steering wheel airbag which responds in micro-seconds. Along with other safety elements, these airbags play a pivotal role in protecting the lives of travelers. Know more about airbags working and features below in this blog post.
Airbags in the car – Understand the working
The airbag is a blow-up safety equipment that is often fitted to the steering wheel of a car. Stretchable fabric such as nylon is used in the making of airbags to keep the driver protected during crashes. Also for co-passenger, the dashboard airbags inflate quickly to protect the body. Thus, offering a cushioning effect to the passengers for prevention of injuries due to colliding with the car’s interior. 2013 Honda Accord steering wheel airbag works utilizing sensors and chemical reactions. Sensors, airbag modules, inflators, and control units are some primary elements for the working of airbags. Thus, they burst to give an anti-shock treatment to passengers to prevent fatal injuries.

Do airbags deploy rapidly during a crash?
Yes, the deployment speed of airbags is really fast to serve the intended purpose. Since accidents are unpredictable a collision can happen anytime. Therefore, the reaction timing for airbags is crucial to deploy for saving the lives of passengers. However, the speed of airbags may also depend on their quality. Airbags are located at different angles in the car to give added protection to passengers. For instance, a 2018 Honda Accord driver knee airbag can prevent lower body injuries during an accident. Along with steering wheel airbags, knee airbags work as dual safety mechanisms to save lives.

The importance of airbags in cars
Airbags are ideal safety equipment that’s why all modern car models come with equipped airbags as standard. Without airbags, one can suffer severe injuries that can affect the head, neck, and knees of the passenger. Thus, colliding with a car’s interior could be fatal and could take your life. So, it is important to have the best airbags in your car. In the event of airbag replacement, you should always choose OEM-certified airbags. However, along with airbags, it is important to focus on other safety features. Take an example of the Honda CRV tail light which is important to make your visibility on the road. The red lamp can show the car behind you when you are moving at night or in the rain.
The final words
In the need for airbag replacement, you should only get original safety equipment. So, Buy Ur Parts is a trusted place to get the best-quality and tested airbags for Honda car models. You can check the online availability for the 2015 Honda Civic steering wheel airbag and knee airbag. You can get the assurance of a reliable airbag choice to fit into your car easily. Thus, ensuring the best safety from unfavorable collision and bodily damages.

Hi, I hope you are having a good to/will have a good day!
This is kind of of a drama stirring ask, but I was reading your post on your favorite riders on the current grid and you mentioned that you became fond of all the 2019 rookies except one of them. I was just wondering if there is any specific reason for that? Not a fan or a hater of that one rider just unfortunately overly curious sometimes, feel free to ignore this ask if you do not feel comfortable answering it.
I also just wanted to mention that I love the way you described Fabio in that post as a sad Frenchie because I immediately pictured a sad French bulldog and somehow that felt completely fitting. And I also laughed so hard when I read the part about about how Joan looked like he was so scared that Marc was going to eat him.
My favorite part of the post though was when you were talking about Pecco's super up and down performance and wrote something like Ok you won. but? why? were? you? in 13th? to begin? with? I don't know if this was what you were going for but the disappointed, but not surprised scolding parent tone I got from it was immaculate. I really hope next year Pecco remembers he has a backbone because if the vibes at Ducati are not rancid what even it the point?
oh tbh there's no real story there!! idm answering but i also don't have a great answer... it's just which ones of them personally caught my eye. early 2019 was a time when i was gradually reestablishing friendly relations with my primary sport and watching motogp was just hoping for... well, not a complete changing of the guard, exactly, because i like marc a lot more than i do the dominant athletes in said other sport. but some competition, some tension. the dovi rivalry kinda felt like it had run its course at some point in 2018 when it became pretty clear dovi probably wasn't ever going to match his 2017 challenge, let alone go one step further. valentino was increasingly washed + the 2018 yamaha was so mediocre that a lot of his very respectable efforts felt like an exercise in futility - and the vinales experiment is one that i'd also given up on at some point that year. (kinda ironic given where yamaha's next champion came from but tennis fans will know what i mean when i say i always referred to vinales as having a case of 'french brain'. actually was worried fabio might have a severe case of french brain until he won the title.) i had basically zero hopes for honda!jorge panning out, like it was conceptually fun (as casey said, get out the popcorn) but also we'd literally just seen jorge take over a year to even begin to adapt to a bike that didn't seem quite as unfriendly as the honda. also, he'd been injured for much of late 2018... idk kinda felt his time was up
which is a pretty dire competitive picture. like the racing was still good, a lot better than it is now, but it was also... this isn't a marc thing, i'm just not really the type of person who can enjoy winning for winning's sake. i do need a story. it all felt a bit depressing, also interpersonally - marc/valentino continued to be the main source of tension but it also meant marc wasn't really doing anything interesting with anyone else on the grid. the dovi relationship is like... civil, but nothing more than that, so mainly it really is just marc giving the side of valentino's scalp a thorough examination once a week. not really the web of intricate interpersonal relations + conflict of the alien era, is it. or guys in the early to mid noughties actually LIKING each other and HANGING OUT and a bit more of an interesting dynamic because you feel like these blokes have actual relationships with each other. dovi/marc as a rivalry is practically designed to make me feel a bit morose and irritable... and dovi came across as a little too resigned to his fate, jorge/dovi teammates was also taken away from me, and it already felt pretty clear marc wasn't going to leave honda when his next contract expired. (not that i thought he'd sign for another FOUR YEARS, obviously that didn't go like anyone was expecting but i can't say i was particularly thrilled at that announcement.) i had a bit of hope for alex rins but also i hadn't really seen THAT much from him. zarco-caused narrative juice also felt like very much a 2017 thing. morbidelli pretty meh rookie season, iannone experiment felt over, miller experiment felt over... you get the spirit
and basically at this point i wasn't looking at the 2019 rookies primarily in terms of personality, it was literally just an evaluation of whether one of these bozos could please, please, please give marc a proper challenge. from those, pecco was obviously the immediately eye-catching one - had just put together an impressive moto2 campaign, then rocked up and had an excellent pre-season testing. i wasn't like... completely sold, because tennis-pilled brain does at a certain point make you think that unless you're already breaking lap records as a toddler, it's probably not going to pan out for you. but obviously i was theoretically interested in a valentino protege going up against marc, and pecco had built up enough positive credit in my bank that i was willing to forgive a lot in 2019. (muttering to myself 'casey crashed a lot too, casey crashed a lot too, casey crashed a lot too' every time a rookie is driving me insane.) mir had quite an eye-catching first ride on the suzuki iirc... also obviously had that moto3 title going for him. i vaguely remember injury eventually just sort of fucking him over in his rookie season? and quartararo... obviously wasn't REALLY on my radar, like I knew about the pre-moto3 resume which did actually play into my 'breaking lap records as a toddler' bias. but also obviously he was the standout that season, like he was properly exciting... and also just the little things, how frustrated he was after losing to marc or when marc was pissing about in sepang qualifying. made you hope we could get something going there. oliveira just went under the radar a bit for me,, like this wasn't entirely FAIR because given machinery differences i would defo say he had a better rookie season than pecco and had run pecco pretty close in 2018. but also i'd also been supporting pecco for the moto2 title the previous year lol, not with all THAT much investment but he was a fun kid idk. so sometimes you just get to a point where you get used to rooting against someone. generally you'll already have an opinion on blokes before they even get to motogp, right
and yeah, genuine affection for these guys developed the following years... i mean, fabio only REALLY got me in 2020 when i was watching him throw his title bid away. and mir grew on me ever more as the suzuki project went down the drain. bagnaia actually has this fantastic quality that allows me to root for him, where every time i go 'hm he's winning too much' he puts the fear of god back into me. like i had this moment during qatar this year where i was like... idk, come on. and then obviously he's taking me on such a great rollercoaster ride and by the end of the season i'd basically never been more invested. i actually have quite possibly the worst type of sports fan brain - runner-up brain. i root for people who come close to winning but can't quite make it. my history as a sports fan is littered with these second tier athletes you can be delusional about but will never actually make you happy. and what i've discovered following motogp is that apparently this even extends to liking the guys i like less when they're winning and more when they're losing. the problem with this is that it's a recipe to always being miserable, which. well. it is what it is. luckily i'm not THAT emotionally invested in motogp, like if i'm not enjoying it i can just stop watching for a while lol and i'll be free of it. it's not that serious
so that's it tbh!! i don't even particularly dislike oliveira - his luck has been abysmal with aprilia and i do feel quite sorry for him throughout all that. yamaha will do him well i reckon (might be a crazy thing to say but yamaha is my team and i have decided to sniff the #hopium, idk i think we might actually be cooking). there ARE some riders i root against, oliveira is not one of them. i feel decidedly neutral towards him. also whatever casey might think about portugal being a province of spain, it's always good to have an extra nationality on the grid. he seems like a bit of a character, like sometimes i see a quote from him that makes me raise an eyebrow and i like raising an eyebrow. but also... his profile of rider is 'guy who can do incredible things on his day but disappears for months at a time', which has just never been the type of athlete i go for. (i think this is actually the main reason, like it's an aggravating pattern of results to me personally that always makes me go 'maybe do this more often?????') i'm way more about the #grinders and the guys who worry away at getting better for years and years and still eventually come up short. anyway, glad you liked the descriptions of fabio and mir lol, apparently i really will bring up that mir clip at any excuse
on pecco, i DO stand by the gags i made in the post probably maybe,, but also i have adjusted a little in response to just how wild the discourse around him gets... like i don't see much of it anymore because i practise #contentcuration but i know it's out there!! ultimately the ways in which he's frustrating push all my buttons, and also (controversial opinion) i do think he actually cleaned up his act in some regards, just everyone's upped their level this year. it's partly the gp24 but jorge + pecco's qualifying record this year has genuinely been so impressive to me, like there's so many fp1's i half followed and went 'hm another q1 excursion for mr bagnaia do we think' before seeing he'd figured it out late in... what's it called now, practise? awful nomenclature. i also did not post this because at a certain point you just have to give up and move on, but i calculated the error rate of each title winner and runner-up this century (where 'error' is strictly defined as any crash that was not CLEARLY caused by an external factor, so racing incidents like with marquez x2 counted but not binder at jerez sprint)... and again. it's six for pecco from forty bloody races. divide that by two (even though twenty races still longer than most seasons historically) and you're already at a considerably less apocalyptic three, which you don't need to do any fancy calculations with to know isn't a historical aberration. what it comes out as is... fine. it's fine. both marc and valentino have won titles with a higher percentage rate of error (and even there you're sometimes being generous - counting casey's laguna 2008 misadventure as an error and not whatever tf marc was up to in argentina 2018 feels quite unfair, but you need clear criteria y'know)... it's just a narrative that has completely gotten away from reality and it's a bit annoying. i also think ultimately sometimes you are punished more for relatively minor missteps, like both marquez brother incidents are 60:40-ish things either way that pecco probably shouldn't have gotten himself involved in... but the punishment doesn't quite befit the crime. and jorge likewise sometimes just got a bit lucky, like marc crashing out right ahead of him in thailand and giving him the warning he needed. it's such a long season, all these things add up, and sometimes... sometimes things just shake out a certain way. pecco likely lost more than ten points cumulatively through incidents that were 100% not his fault, jorge put together an extremely impressive season on a satellite bike and is very deserving of the title. idk stuff like this is so completely pointless because you might as well be arguing with the wall, like people just enjoy a certain pecco narrative at this point and it's not going to change so. no point arguing about this any further. but that's where i stand on THAT
and yeah i feel like i was quite optimistic about next season like... halfway through the year, but tbh. i'm not feeling it at the minute. i mean i've barely thought about it, all the time i have available thinking about motogp has really just been about the old stuff. which is such a rich text that i'm never REALLY going to complain about motogp, like at the end of the day i do enjoy following it *as a sport* and it is just so extremely extremely unlikely that we ever get anything that lives up to the old stuff. did you know that one guy put a curse on another guy?? it's crazy. so yeah, whatever, it's a different landscape now. competitively i am a little worried we're in for '2018 but with worse racing', which is unfair to pecco - he's a better, more well-rounded rider than dovi ever was facing off against a different version of marc. but i kinda feel like you NEED a decent title fight in this era to sustain your interest, like i'm not tuning in for the racing am i. which was the case in 2017-19!! but unfortunately we're keeping the shitty michelin front for another year, which just means that it's going to be monumentally hard for those two to actually put on extended duel. it's not their FAULT, it's just the limitations of the current series. i do hope we're going to get *one* proper proper duel... but the problem with marc is that it also takes quite specific circumstances for that to even matter - either you need to repeatedly beat him to start fraying at his nerves (see mid-2019 pre-misano) or your name needs to be valentino rossi. otherwise he can mostly accept that the relentless pace will be what wins him the title and you have duels that feel quite disconnected from the storyline of the season, which was historically the problem with the marc/dovi duels. they're fun in the moment!! it's good racing!! but it's also a bit... you know, these duels don't necessarily all stick in the mind the same way because they don't each come with their own story. austria 2017 vs austria 2019 just aren't the same level of distinctive as brno 2003 vs brno 2005, right. i will say both proper marc/pecco duels, aragon 2021 and jerez 2024, have been distinctive and memorable and interesting - so we'll see!! you could be in for a great duel at *checks notes* mugello or assen, but that would mean pecco's probably in quite a lot of trouble that season... catalunya, jerez, qatar. those are the ones i am eyeing anyway
and the other bit of the equation is interpersonal tension, which i am also not super optimistic on. i will be a bit disappointed in both of them icl, but it does feel a bit like we're headed to... vaguely tense but also kinda muted coexistence. the problem is marc isn't going to engage with this stuff unless he absolutely has to, and pecco is so extremely committed to his stance that he wants to be a good sportsman, fair and respectful and all that shit. they're both extremely motivated to downplay any potential tension because marc's calculation is that, all other things remaining equal, he will beat pecco - and pecco just does not want the drama. unfortunately as we've already seen this year, people just cannot be normal about any tension between the two of them either, like it's just also not a media environment where guys can just say shit about each other. casey *probably* accused jorge of faking injuries severe enough they put jorge in a wheelchair back in the day, and i'm not saying that's GOOD or what we should be aiming for, but also can you imagine the equivalent outcry over something like that today?? (this is now the fifth unsolicited mention of casey in an ask response about current motogp, if anyone's counting.) and both pecco and marc are aware of that, and they also know that if they blink at each other wrong, some fans will completely lose their minds... it's just not really worth it. you always kinda hope the natural tension caused by being teammates will get something going... but yeah, idk man, sometimes you just need to be ready for disappointment. and pecco DOES need to actually challenge marc because otherwise obviously you're not getting any proper tension. literally no point in feuding if the competitive stakes aren't there, you need to be a real master of the craft to pull that sort of thing off
anyway that's all from me!! idm asks like this, i love talking about my opinions on stuff lol. we might be in for 1-2 quite disappointing seasons but hopefully the racing will get better again and the competitive picture a bit more lively. thing is i do LIKE 1v1 title fights in theory but i think then you do need a proper compelling interpersonal narrative to pull it off. otherwise the best ones are the 2006/2017 type free-for-all's. and obviously i still think pecco and marc have all the building blocks there for something fun, and individually i clearly care a lot about both of them... they're both just quite self-contained characters? they're never going to get close for obvious reasons but they also don't want to rock the boat too much. idk i feel like we might be missing a bit of an instigator in the jorge/valentino tradition, or someone who's casey-levels of tightly strung they make it easy to provoke them. which is obviously why i'm hoping pedro will eventually come through for me, though i'd prefer it if he weren't currently tied to bankruptcy enterprises. ah well, we'll see
#i'm gonna be honest the first half sentence of that ask had me thinking this would go in a way more dramatic direction#//#brr brr#//currt#batsplat responds
