Look, I know that Ratchet being so different in RiD15 than in TFP is a thing of like different genre and target audience or whatever but I think it's funny to come up with possible in-universe reasons, like:

Interestingly there’s a fanfic that takes place during this episode but the twist is that Thomas doesn’t stop in time, and Edward’s buffers start bleeding as a result of the collision.

I know he’s a giant thing of hot metal but sometimes I just wanna hug him so badly
