Wait what's this about Casey, Marc and getting kicked out of honda
ah just a fun bit of old gossip. to clarify in case the phrasing in this post was confusing, we're talking about casey's role as a test rider with honda after his retirement, so 2013-15 (not casey's initial retirement from his honda ride, which was ofc entirely his own choice)
so! first of all! from the moment casey retired, everybody was going 'when will casey be back'. this wasn't based on anything casey was actually saying - it's just how people are about retirement announcements ig, the disbelief at how early casey retired, wanting to see him race again, refusing to believe he might actually properly be done. when the riders were asked about it in pressers, they usually gave very neutral 'sure that would be nice' responses. when casey was asked about it, he was generally pretty firm in going 'I'm not interested' and also 'stop asking'. but in 2015, dani made the decision to pause his season to get an operation for his recurring severe arm pump issues. he ended up missing three races, and inevitably people went, 'hey you know who would be fun to have back for a few races, you know who also happens to be familiar with the honda bike'
and this time casey WOULD have been up for it. except, according to him, SOMEONE didn't want him to race:
Tumblr media
now fwiw, we have zero proof that this 'someone' was marc, although ofc that was something people speculated about at the time - the idea being that marc wouldn't have wanted to be undermined by casey outperforming him, especially in the context of a tricky start to the 2015 season. (funnily enough, the phrasing does echo the "somebody inside Yamaha didn't want me there" thing; a topic for another post but I'm pretty unconvinced valentino was involved in blocking casey's yamaha deal.) and... given this is the same interview where casey talks about his belief that marc forced him out of honda (which we'll get to)... I mean, he must have at least known it's a conclusion people would draw
marc was asked in pressers about casey racing as dani's replacement, and he basically stuck to 'it's not up to me'. some more casey quotes:
Tumblr media
I like to think 'I would've won that' was one of casey's main takeaways from sepang 2015
anyway at the end of 2015, casey left honda to join ducati as a test rider. here is an excerpt from a piece about it at the time, saying marc had complained about casey's performance level as a test rider:
Tumblr media
you'll note the HRC sources disagree with casey on how good casey's pace was; unfortunately we'll never really know either way. (in any case it's not particularly great form for sources to 'let slip' that your test rider's pace is poor, even if it was true, but there we are.) and ofc there's the assertion that marc felt 'threatened' by casey and/or didn't think casey's feedback was valuable. here's a screenshot of the piece from speedweek being referenced:
Tumblr media
again, a lot of this is obviously hearsay. we don't really know how hard marc pushed to get rid of casey (if at all), and certainly not for what reasons - whether it was casey being too slow or the quality of his feedback or marc's ego or whatever else. we do know casey thinks marc wanted him out because marc felt threatened by him, as he's very helpfully said as much:
Tumblr media
casey does make it clear he doesn't have any proof that marc (and his entourage) felt threatened by him, but, well. either way he did believe it. this story dropped in january 2016 btw, so at a time where press coverage of marc was not exactly at its friendliest anyway. marc hasn't really ever responded to these assertions afaik - but when casey ended up leaving ducati again at the end of 2018, he was pretty lukewarm about the idea of casey returning to honda:
Tumblr media
here too there's nothing from marc's side to suggest any real antipathy, but of course we also don't know whether he's being honest about his reasons for preferring the distinctly unthreatening bradl. and finally, casey has more recently (aka start of this year, 2024) said that he left honda because they only listened to marc:
Tumblr media
which is also obviously relevant now in the context of honda's long-term decline and marc's decision to leave (criticised in some quarters by those who feel marc is at least partly to blame for said decline)
anyway ofc this is all very he said she said, so who knows what really happened - but the fun bit is that nobody can quite agree! all a bit messy isn't it. it's very low stakes beef, kinda nice... but it does also fit in with casey's whole outlook towards the sport, where he often feels like he's being unfairly treated. and (this cannot be stressed enough) a lot of the time he was right, he was being unfairly treated, so it's absolutely possible some underhanded stuff was going on here too. believe what you will! who knows!

Richard Ramirez
Born February 29, 1960, Died June 7, 2013 (Age 53)
Richard Ramirez was an American serial killer who was active during the mid 1980s, who was mainly known as the Night Stalker, but was also known as the Valley Intruder and the Walk-In Killer. Ramirez killed at least 14 people and committed 21 assaults, most of which took place during home invasions in the Los Angeles area, which caused a panic that caused gun sales to go up.
CHILDHOOD
Richard Ramirez was born in El Paso, Texas, on February 29, 1960 and was the youngest of 5 siblings. His parents, Mercedes and Julian Ramirez, were Mexican immigrants, and his siblings all had birth defects due to the fact that his mother worked in a boot factory that exposed her to harmful chemicals while pregnant with them. Richard's father, a former policeman in Mexico, was prone to having violent fits of anger that caused him to be physically abusive to his family. When Richard was 2, a dresser fell on his head, which caused a large laceration, a swing hit his head when he was 5, which caused him to have epileptic fits, and according to Biography.com he also suffered multiple other head injuries when he was young. He was also diagnosed with epilepsy after he had seizures in class.
When Richard was 12, he became close to his older cousin, Miguel, who also went by "Mike." He used to be in the military, and fought in the Vietnam War. Miguel told Richard about the torture he had inflicted onto multiple Vietnam women, and shared some polaroid photos with Richard that showed Miguel posing with the decapitated head of a woman. Mike also taught Richard things that Mike had learned in the military, like how to fight.
One quote from Richard Ramirez's biographer when he spoke to A&E network states: "When his cousin showed him those photographs, Ramirez became sexually aroused. And it was right around the age of 13." Also when Richard was 13, he witnessed his cousin, Miguel, shoot his wife, Jessie, fatally in the face with a revolver. Miguel was found not guilty by reason of insanity and was released after four years of incarceration at the Texas State Mental Hospital. After he was released, he and Ramirez continued contact with each other. When Richard was 15, he got a job at the Holiday Inn, and was given the master key to all the rooms. He would watch people in their rooms until they were sleeping, then broke into their rooms to steal their valuables. One night while Richard was doing this, he wanted to rape a woman. He hid in the closet of the woman while she was in the bathroom, then tried to rape her. Her husband caught him, and successfully fought him off. Ramirez was arrested, but the charges were dropped.
EARLY ADULTHOOD When Richard was 18, he moved to Los Angeles, California, where he was homeless and living on the streets. He also became an alcoholic and a cocaine addict. He befriended many friends that were similar to himself, and they all started living at the bus station. Richard spent the last of the little money he had on a master set of keys to Toyota and Honda cars, and every night he would steal a car and drive around Los Angeles to find a house to burglarize. One night, a woman asked Richard to buy her PCP, but later at her apartment she turned down Richard's advances, and then he raped her. Within two years of repeating this process every night, he began committing more severe crimes. He started raping women and robbing them when he was through. By the time he was 23, he had lost contact with his family.
VICTIMS Victim #1 - Mei Leung
Mei Leung's story has been embellished in multiple news articles for publicity and shock value, which is rather disgusting because she was only 9 years old when she was raped, stabbed, and strangled by Richard Ramirez. According to the most recent news stories of Mei's murder, Mei was walking back home from a friend's house with her younger brother, and while they were walking up the stairs in their apartment building, Mei dropped a dollar bill down the stairwell and into the basement. She went down to go get it but she never came back. Eventually, her brother came back to look for her but instead he found her hanging from a spigot.
A police officer on the case, who was interviewed on the New York Post stated:
“If you can picture Christ on the cross, that’s the way she looked. Her head was drooped and her chin down. It was a sad sight to see. She kind of got to me.”
The case was not tied to Richard Ramirez until 2009.
Victim #2 - Jennie Vincow (age 79)
Jennie's body was found by her son, Jack Vincow, in their shared apartment. Her body was found with a slashed throat and multiple stab wounds. She was killed on June 27, 1984.
Victim #3 - Dale Okazasi (age 34) Richard Ramirez murdered Dale Okazasi on March 17, 1985, by shooting her in her own home. During this attack, Ramirez also murdered Maria Hernandez, who was 20, but she survived.
Victim #4 - Tsai-Lian “Veronica” Yu (age 30)
On the same day (March 17, 1985) of the murder of Dale Okazasi, Ramirez dragged Veronica from her car and killed her.
Victim #5 - Vincent Zazzara (age 64)
Ramirez broke into Vincent's home and killed him while Vincent was asleep.
Victim #6 - Maxine Zazzara (age 44)
Maxine was killed during the same attack of her husband, Vincent Zazzara, on March 27, 1985.
Victim #7 - Willaim Doi (age 65)
Ramirez fatally shot William Doy when he broke into his house in Monterey Park on the 14th of May, 1985.
Victim #8 - Mable "Ma" Bell (age 84)
Mable Bell was killed after Ramirez attacked her at her home in Monrovia, California, on June 29, 1985.
Victim #9 - Mary Louise Cannon (age 77)
Mary was killed at her home in Arcadia, California, on July 2, 1985.
Victim #10 - Joyce Lucille Nelson (age 61)
Ramirez beat Joyce to death, and also burglarized her home in Monterey Park on July 7, 1985.
Victim #11 - Max Kneiding (age 68)
Max was killed by Ramirez, and was attacked with a machete as well as shot on July 20, 1985.
Victim #12 - Lela Kneiding (age 66)
Lela Kneiding, the wife of Max Kneiding, was also killed on the same day after Ramirez broke into the home the couple lived in, in Glendale, California. He also robbed their home.
Victim #13 - Chainarong Khovananth (age 32)
On July 20, Ramirez was shot and killed while he was sleeping in his some in Sun Valley.
Victim #14 - Elyas Abowath (age 31)
Elyas was shot and killed on August 8, 1985, in Diamond Bar, California. He was killed during the burglary of his family home.
It is now known that Richard's crime were all acted out in a similar way. He would steal a car, drive around Los Angeles for multiple hours at a time, then find a house that was dark. Then, he would park his car and look around for a way in the house. While Richard was doing this, the people within the house were always asleep. Richard would then look into all the bedroom windows and figure out who was home, and then he would shoot all the men in the house directly in the temple so that they were killed instantly. However, this action would cause a loud noise which woke up the women in the house. Once the women were awake, Richard would tie them up with whatever was available while he went to go get the children out of bed. Richard would torture and rape the women in front of the children before he killed the women, and then he would let them beg for their lives and then rob them.
RAMIREZ'S BELIEFS IN SATANISM
When Ramirez was around 18, he started reading books by Anton Lavey, the founder of the Church of Satan. Then, he stole a car to attend one of Lavey's Satanic ceremonies. After this, he called his mother to say he'd been 'touched by Satan.' He believed that his Satanic impulses were in line with what Satan would have wanted. Later on, he would also carve inverted pentagrams on his victims' palms and even yelled "Hail Satan" in the middle of court.

Coming here so that I’m not flooding racingmuppett’s notifications since I have another question.
What’s the deal with Dani and Puig?? I know almost all fans dislike him. I’ve heard things of him supposedly pushing Marc too hard, but Marc had a lot of praise for him in the Honda video highlighting his role (I know he wasn’t going to sit there and trash on him, but the praises seemed different). And I’ve heard things of him pushing Dani out??
I don't think they mind their inbox flooding. But happy to be considered for historic ask!
What's the deal with Dani and Puig?? Where do I start? Their relationship goes back a long way. In fact, people will say (Puig including) that Dani owns his career to Puig. Dani started his racing life in mini-bikes/pocket bikes (those small bikes, I'm not sure the name in English). He actually manages to win the Spanish championship on his first try. Dani's parents could not afford to pay for a 125cc bike, so Dani gave up and was going to focus on bicycles, until he was informed about a new promotion cup.
The 'Moviestar Joven Activa Cup' was a promotion cup organized by DORNA and in front of the project they have put an ex-rider Alberto Puig. Dani was too young for it. He was 13 and a half (1999), and they asked for the 'riders' to be at least 14 years old, and he didn't know how to use the gears. Despite all of that, Dani was selected because Puig was impressed because Dani decided to put a personal dossier with all his wins and photos with the application. So Puig asked Ezpeleta and they both agree to bend the rules, so Dani could get in the cup. Dani was selected after the bike's test (spoiler, the bike was too big and everyone was questioning (even Puig at some point) if Dani was suited to be there). Dani was not the fastest out there, but despite that, Alberto chose him because he saw the lines the kid was choosing on track. Puig went with a 'gut feeling' and choose Dani among other rider to be part of the cup.
According to Dani, the top-3 riders from the Moviestar Joven Activa Cup (1999) were going to move on to the CEV (Spanish Velocity Championship), which now is the Junior Championship. Dani finished in 8th position, so he was supposed to do another year in the cup. Puig decided that Dani was going to be the 3rd rider for the Moviestar team, and he didn't care about the protest or breaking the law. (Puig's word about this 'I broke twice the laws with Dani and I was concerned, but I also was concerned because I knew I was gonna break the law').
At the end of the first year (2000), Dani finished in 4th position in the CEV, and his teammates finished 1 and 2. In 2001, the Moviestar team debuted in the championship, it was supposed to be Tony Elias and the 2 best riders of the CEV team, Dani was not gonna join the team. But guess what? Yes, Puig acted again! At this point, everyone knew that Dani was Puig's project/Dani was Puig's protégé. Puig become Dani's manager in 2006.
In 2005, Dani described Puig as his best friend, but something happened between that moment and the end of 2013. I think their relationship become a bit colder or maybe it was Dani thinking he needed a change, but Dani fired Puig as his manager. I think it has to do with Dani being in the official team and being outshone by his teammates. In 2011, it was supposed to be Dani's championship and his teammate, Casey Stoner won it. And then 2012 it was the closest he was to be world champion, but Jorge took it. And then in 2013, his rookie teammate Marc Márquez won in a bike that was supposed to suit Dani's riding style. There's this article (it's in Spanish) that says Puig moved to a HRC role in the promotion cups, but apparently Dani fired him as a manager and Honda wanted to keep him around.
In 2018, Puig become Repsol Honda's team manager. There are articles that say he really tried to help both Dani and Marc as the bike was one of the most difficult to ride, but at the end of the year, Puig choose Jorge Lorenzo instead of keeping Dani. The same Jorge Lorenzo, who has been Dani's biggest rival, and the same rider Puig was not a fan of. Some people say he did it because Puig was pissed with Dani firing him as his manager. Anyway, Puig talked dirty about Dani once Pedrosa retired from MotoGP. He just implied that Dani threw away all his chances of getting the MotoGP title once he was not there to supervise him.
There's also the test rider contract thing. Apparently Honda and Puig offered it to Dani, but Pedrosa rejected it and choose KTM and it's a big question mark. I can't remember the year when it was, but was already with Marc in Honda, Dani accepted a considerable reduction in his salary to stay loyal with Honda, despite other teams offering more money. So again, why did he choose to say 'no' to the team and manufacturer he has worked all his life? There were rumours saying that the test rider offer from Honda was fake, or that Dani and Puig relationship was so broken that Dani just jumped out of the boat.
Why people do not like Puig? Maybe it's his attitude. He is a brash person, and he goes to the media and lie to them. It's also the way Honda has acted and destroyed riders' life since he arrived.
In 2019, Jorge was Marc's teammate and it was one of Jorge's worst season ever. It was so bad that Lorenzo decided to retire after a big crash and a back injury.
In 2020 Cal was supposed to be Marc's teammate, so Álex had an easier time at Honda without the pressure of his brother as a teammate. Cal refused because he did not want to change his crew. Álex debuted as Marc teammate, and Honda did not renew Cal's contract. Yes, Honda butted him out. It's true that Cal was already thinking about retirement, but Honda never sit and talked with him. Instead of keeping Álex, who had a podium in 2020, at the Repsol Honda Team, Puig went fishing and choose Pol as Marc's teammate and 'demoted' Álex to the LCR team. I want to note that Álex was supposed to start there, but he was already in the manufacturer seat, he could have stayed.
In 2021-2022 Pol was miserable, Álex was miserable and Puig and Honda did terrible. I know that's not Puig's fault, but his job is to protect and make the rider's happy with the bike, and he can't do that. Honda has been erratic and Puig is the visible face of that. He can't make the factory listen to the riders when Marc is not there and his job is actually that, make the rider's voice be heard. Honda is a sinking ship since he got there, and it's not completely his fault.
About him pushing Marc? I'm not a Marc fan nor a Honda and let alone Puig's one so I don't know about that. But what I know is that Honda is dependent of Marc and the only thing Puig did well was to actually prevent Honda to push Marc. He gave Marc the space to heal and take his own decisions regardless of the eye and arm. He did the same for Jorge too. Jorge was supposed to do 2 years with them, but allowed him to retire. I guess he is not so bad after all.
I think I'm not forgetting anything. Please people feet free to add stuff or correct me if I'm wrong.
Sources all in Spanish, sorry. Pedrosa, elegido para ganar. This is a documentary based on Dani's history up to 2003. From there is where I got most of the info and is told by Dani, Dani's parents and Puig. If anyone wants to see a young Dani and can set a VPN to a Spanish location, please watch it. https://www.rtve.es/play/videos/programa/pedrosa-elegido-para-ganar/596134/ (I think Videopass has it too). Top 10 Used Cars Under $10,000: Reliable & Budget Friendly!
Alright, folks, today we’re diving into a topic that’s super relevant for anyone on a budget or just looking to save some cash without sacrificing reliability and performance. We’re talking about used cars! Specifically, I’m going to share with you ten great used cars you can snag for under $10,000. These beauties not only offer reliability and fuel efficiency but also come with low maintenance costs—perfect for those of us who want to keep our wallets happy while still hitting the road. Let’s kick things off with the Honda Civic, particularly the models from 2012 to 2015. If you’re looking for a car that’s practically synonymous with reliability, this is it. The Civic has a stellar reputation for longevity, and let’s not forget about its impressive fuel economy. You can expect to get around 28 miles per gallon in the city and up to 39 on the highway, depending on the model. Plus, they hold their resale value like nobody’s business! Maintenance? Easy-peasy. Parts are affordable, and you can find a mechanic who knows their way around a Civic without breaking the bank. Next up, we have the Toyota Corolla, also from 2012 to 2015. This car is like the dependable friend who always shows up on time. The Corolla is known for its exceptional reliability and smooth ride, making it a great choice for anyone who wants a hassle-free driving experience. Fuel efficiency is solid here too, usually hovering around 26 city and 34 highway. And let’s not forget about maintenance costs—Toyota parts are generally affordable, so you won’t be sweating bullets every time you need an oil change. Now, if you’re someone who craves a little sportiness in your drive, the Mazda3 from 2012 to 2015 might just be your jam. This car combines fun handling with solid fuel economy. You can expect about 27 miles per gallon in the city and up to 37 on the highway. It’s got high reliability ratings, plus it’s stylish and modern—definitely a head-turner. If you want a budget-friendly option that doesn’t skimp on the driving experience, the Mazda3 is worth considering. Moving on to the Ford Fusion, specifically the models from 2012 to 2015. This midsize sedan offers a comfortable interior and smooth handling, which is perfect for longer drives or family trips. The Fusion also boasts good fuel efficiency; you’re looking at around 22 miles per gallon in the city and 34 on the highway. And let’s talk about trunk space—if you’ve got kids, pets, or just a lot of stuff, you’ll appreciate the ample cargo area. It’s a practical choice that doesn’t compromise on comfort. Now, let’s talk about the Honda Accord, particularly the models from 2011 to 2014. This car is roomy and reliable, striking a balance between performance and fuel economy. You can expect around 21 miles per gallon in the city and 34 on the highway. The Accord has a reputation for long-lasting engines, so if you’re looking for something that can stick around for years, this is a solid pick. Plus, you’ll have plenty of space for passengers and cargo alike. If fuel economy is your top priority, you can’t go wrong with the Toyota Prius from 2011 to 2013. This hybrid is a top choice for anyone looking to maximize their miles per gallon. Even as an older model, you can still expect impressive efficiency and reliability. The Prius typically gets around 51 miles per gallon in the city and about 48 on the highway. It’s a great option if you’re commuting a lot or just want to save on gas. Plus, it’s environmentally friendly, which is a bonus!
