@hprecfest day 30: pre-canon
Babes. Babes. Summer of 1899 and Grindeldore in general. My goddamn achilles heel. Enemies to lovers??? Nah, give me lovers to enemies. I personally don't like Dumbledore, but that being said I think he's the most complex and nuanced character in the whole HP universe and that's what really fascinates me about him and makes him one of my favorites. It's funny how I don't like him at all but he's still one of my favorite characters. Grindelwald on the other hand is my favorite sociopath of all time, I really like his character even though there's little to none of him in the og scriptures. These two are my absolute downfall.
Light Bringer by meanwhiletimely 🩵 10,678 words, gellert/albus
Gellert doesn't simply shine—Gellert blazes, casting all around him into shadow with sheer dazzling force of being. When he turns that beatific gaze on you, your whole body comes alive for him: heat flaring up from within, blood in your veins turned to light.
This is my favorite grindeldore fic out there. It's just breathtakingly beautiful and haunting. The whole story is dripping with emotion and the 2nd person POV takes things to the next level. I found myself holding my breath multiple times reading this the first time (and the second and the third and so on..). The characterizations are perfect to me, and the dynamics of them are just heavenly. Toxic and messy, all-consuming. After reading this I highly recommend to check out the authors other Grindeldore-works, they have me so weak and I'm reduced to a whimpering mess because of them.
Golden, Ripe and Rotten-series by starfishstar 🩵 4 works, 8,245 total words, gellert/albus
Three glimpses into the summer Albus Dumbledore met Gellert Grindelwald in Godric’s Hollow, from its beginning to its end. (Plus one extra to the series: the story of the duel.)
This is the perfect little series about these two. The first three fics about the infamous summer of 1899 (my favorite summer of all!!!!!) and the fourth part being the duel - heartbreaking. Beautiful. Gorgeous. I haven't read that many fics of the duel of '45, but I really adore starfishstars version about it. Like the way Dumbledore won the Elder Wand getting down and dirty in the mud with Grindelwald is everything. Magnificent prose, delicious imagery. An absolute godsent joy to read.

Reasons to renew Fantastic Beasts
The franchise’s future is uncertain, we can only hope for the making of a fourth and a fifth movie. While Fantastic Beasts 3 could end the franchise without the fans being frustrated over the ending, I feel like there’s still so much to see, so much to discover, so much of the story to tell. This post has no ambition of trying to convince WB to give Fantastic Beasts a chance, though I would very like them to do so, this is just something I wanted to do for a while.
You are free to add more to the list!
The summer of 1899
We need to see flashbacks of the summer of 1899. What the HP canon and Dumbledore told us in FB is so little to what actually happened. We need to see Albus and Gellert's first meeting. How they befriended each other because they're two solitary genius sharing the same ideology (more or less) and the same interest for the Hallows. We need to see them falling in love with each other, maybe sharing their first kiss (one can dream) and how it fell apart, how they drifted ways. I need to see Albus feeling trapped and frustrated in his own home until he finally met the one who completed him and understood him the most. I need to see how the Dumbledore siblings had to live on their own, the Dumbledore brothers having to take care of themselves and parent an unstable younger girl, without adults being around. We need to see Aberforth distrusting Gellert and how Albus neglected his family for Gellert. We need to see the three ways duel that resulted in Ariana's death and Gellert's departure
Gellert’s past
We also need to see flashbacks of Albus and Gellert before they met each other. We know next to nothing about Gellert's past. Who was he really? Where did he come from? Did he come from a pureblood family and raised with supremacist ideals? What did his parents think of him getting expelled from school? Mads Mikkelsen believe something happened to Gellert while he was young, or his family. Was it true? If so, were Muggles implied in this, thus explaining his hate for Muggles (it would also be a reason why Albus and he bonded, something tragic happened to them or their family because of Muggles). What were exactly Gellert's experiments so Durmstrang, a school reputed for its practice of dark magic, expelled him? How did he came to learn about the Hallows? Was Nurembarg a family castle or was it something he build for his quest?
Albus’s past
It would also be interesting to see the Dumbledore family before and after Ariana's attack, how it shaped Albus to be the young man he grew up to be when meeting Gellert, how he felt the status of secrecy prevented his family to have justice for what happened to Ariana. How he cared for his sister yet felt him having to take care of her after Kendra's death would mean having to sacrifice his brilliant future. How he came to have that ideology of controlling Muggles for the greater good and breaking the status of secrecy.
The 1945 duel
To see the 1945 in CGI (is that the right word?). The duel lasted three hours, what could possibly happened during that time? What led to that duel? Did Gellert surrender like Rita Skeeter suggested? Why? Was love the reason why Gellert lost the fight? We may get flashbacks during that duel, Albus and Gellert remembering their past together as they fight each other. Could you only imagine the moment where Albus won the Elder Wand? How Albus fought to have Gellert alive and imprisoned, rather than killed? Did they share a goodbye kiss? There are so many possibilities!
Newt and Tina
We know Newt and Tina end up getting married... how did they get there? Would we see the wedding? The long awaited kiss?
Jacob and Queenie
We need to see more of Jacob and Queenie's story. Their story isn't finished just because they got back together and got married. Will Jacob take part in WW2 or will he help during the war against Grindelwald? What about Queenie who betrayed Grindelwald and his followers and left them to join Jacob and Dumbledore's side? Won't Grindelwald and his followers try to get revenge? Not to mention, Queenie may have been able to read Grindelwald's thoughts. As skilled as he is, he must have slipped something from time to time without him noticing, so what could have Queenie possibly seen? Something that may help defeating Grindelwald.
Grindelwald's rise to power.
He may have lost during FB 3, but this isn't over yet. We have yet to see more of his rise to power and his reign of terror. He was the greatest dark wizard until Voldemort, and Voldemort only was active in England, unlike Grindelwald. Also, his defeat in 1945 isn't a coincidence... (I just hope they won't make him a wizard Hitler). The war against Grindelwald was most probably tied to WW2. If so, how?
Dumbledore's plan and tactics to try and stop him.
Now that the blood pact is broken, how will Dumbledore move against him? The blood pact broke in 1927, yet Dumbledore only really defeated Grindelwald much later, in 1945. Maybe there were a sort of chess between the two of them, trying to twart the other without facing each other in a duel.
The other characters
Secondary and tertary characters still have room for development, such as Lally, Yusuf, Theseus, as well as Grindelwald's acolytes. It would be interesting to see a couple of them being more than just acolytes, like Vinda. We might also get other characters introduced, either new characters or characters from the Harry Potter series, such as Bathilda Bagshot (she introduced Gellert and Albus to each other, she’s Gellert’s aunt… what does she think of her nephew now? Have her and Albus stayed in contact?), Hagrid, Slughorn, etc.
Nagini
We need to know what happened to Nagini. She went with Newt and co at the end of FB2. She would be most probably anguished about Credence joining Grindelwald and then dying, and would be angry against Grindelwald and pure-blood wizards whom she saw as the enemy. If so, how come she came to meet and stay with Voldemort as his most faithful companion. Did she pity him because he was an orphan? How come she stayed stuck as a snake?
Tom Riddle
It would be interesting to see Tom Riddle. Maybe in a cameo as he read with fascination the news on Grindelwald's reign of terror, or maybe even reading about the chamber of secrets. The chamber was first opened during Grindelwal's reign. Could you even imagine Dumbledore's state of mind? Him busy with the war against his former lover and Hogwarts, a safe haven for him and his students, being threatened by the opening of the chamber, him suspecting Tom but knowing he has no proof.
The fantastic beasts
To see Teddy the Niffler and Pickett and discover new fantastic beasts, maybe some of them will take an active part in the story, a bigger role, like the Qilin did.
Tina and Queenie
Seeing the sisters having their much needed reunion. Yes, it was important for Jacob and Queenie to find each other, but could you imagine what the sister had been through, away from each other? Tina, the head of the AUROR, knowing her sister joined the enemy, being afraid she lost her sister forever and having another, more personal reason to fight Grindelwald
Tina Golstein

I like the theories you bring up in this post!
Aberforth said, very specifically, that he drew his wand and then Gellert drew his after. Why phrase it like that, unless to make a point? He could have easily said, we drew our wands on each other. Think about it a different way, what if Aberforth said something like “Grindelwald drew his wand on me, so I took out mine”. It leaves you with a completely different take on the situation that Aberforth is describing. I also take this to mean that Aberforth instigated both the duel and the verbal fight prior to the duel. Granted, we can’t know this for sure. However, Aberforth has been known to be an abrasive man who tends towards dueling - we are told this throughout Deathly Hallows even before we meet him, and we do get some hints of the kind of man Aberforth is before Deathly Hallows. Not to mention, we’ve seen that when it comes to Gellert, he rarely draws his wand first.
I’ve brought up before how controlling Aberforth seems, especially towards Albus. It’s abusive. And likely towards Ariana, too, he just has a better attitude with Ariana. He adores her, while he deplores and despises Albus.
Aberforth told Harry that Grindelwald did not like being told that Ariana was too delicate to be moved and that they couldn’t go on their crusade (or whatever he said). That he (Gellert) did not like being told “You’d better give it up now” regarding their plans. Now Gellert, who is not a man to be controlled, especially not by a (slightly) younger boy who is abusively controlling. Especially to one who is abusively controlling of the boy he loves. OFC he got angry at Aberforth. Now Aberforth is not only attempting to control Albus and Ariana, but Gellert as well. And, not only that, but he is trying to prevent Albus and Gellert bring about positive change to their world. But Aberforth likely got angry first, when ... I assume Albus told Aberforth that he was to go back to school and Ariana would be going with Albus and Gellert. So, Aberforth started the verbal fight, saying that Ariana was in no fit state to go, and he likely was very caustic towards Albus and Gellert when he said it. Possibly even used very offensive slurs. And there would be no way in hell Gellert, particularly 16 year old Gellert, would let that fly without a fight.
Aberforth had already established that he didn’t want to go back to school, that he wanted to stay home and care for Ariana. He already told us that he didn’t understand why Albus came home after their mother died, when Aberforth said he could handle it. I have some doubts about this, but that’s a different argument for a different day. The point remains, Aberforth was fighting Albus about not going back and trying to control Albus’s actions.
I love how you bring up that Gellert is hurt by Albus not standing by Gellert, that he is siding with Aberforth instead. I think it is likely that this could also be said of the argument prior to the duel. That has to hurt like hell. Albus and Gellert spent all summer making plans to make the world a better place for the magical community all over the world. It has to hurt because Gellert was supportive of Albus, understood Albus, and (I would argue) tried to help Albus with the situation at home, and now when Gellert needs support, Albus is silent. He doesn’t intervene on Gellert’s behalf. He doesn’t tell Aberforth to go to hell, or that Aberforth does not control Albus, or that Albus is the head of the household and legal guardian of both Aberforth and Ariana and as such has the right to decide what is to happen with them (Aberforth going to school, Ariana going with Albus and Gellert). Or worse, Albus tells Gellert that Aberforth is right. Gellert would be feeling extremely betrayed and hurt. And all of this before wands are drawn.
We don’t know how the fight went down before Aberforth drew his wand. We don’t know exactly what was said that prompted him. Aberforth grew up with Kendra, too. It’s very likely that he also learned secrecy and lies at his mother’s knee, as did Albus. All Aberforth says is that there was an argument then he pulled his wand, Gellert pulled his and used the Crucio. That’s very vague until it gets to what Gellert did to him. Makes me wonder what he didn’t say. It is entirely possible, as you said, that Aberforth was taunting Gellert and casting spells prior and attacking either Albus or Gellert, or both, and Gellert would not take it well. It is also possible that Gellert, who was most likely proficient in silent spell casting, might have actually cast it silently and it was a different spell, but Aberforth didn’t know the spell. Or, it was the Cruciatus, and Gellert didn’t understand in that moment how the Cruciatus is perceived differently than how he was taught - his intent being what mattered, not the spell, itself. And, yeah, like you said, it wasn’t a great option for him to go with, but he wasn’t thinking with his right mind. After all, Gellert and Albus likely had many debates about the Unforgivable Curses, and Gellert knew exactly how Albus felt about them, even if he didn’t understand why.
Then suddenly, Albus is siding with Aberforth (again) when Gellert was just trying to defend himself. Aberforth tells us that Albus was trying to stop Gellert. Gellert wouldn’t understand why Albus sided with Aberforth. This is where Aberforth tells us that all three of them started dueling each other.
But, let’s back up for a moment to address a “contradiction”. Gellert and Albus have made a blood pact so they can’t fight each other, right? Well, no. I actually don’t think this is the case. Albus is very good at prevaricating and obfuscating. It was never Albus who said that he couldn’t fight Gellert because of the pact. No. That was Newt, and Albus didn’t deign to correct him. Even at the beginning of CoG, when Albus says that he cannot fight Grindelwald, he doesn’t say why, only that he can’t. So, it is easy, then, to draw the conclusion that they can’t fight because of the blood pact at the end, that the blood pact between Albus and Gellert was a promise to never fight each other because that’s what Newt said and Albus doesn’t refute him. But, that doesn’t make sense for Albus to agree to that. Even if Gellert did have a vision that showed them fighting each other and suggest such a venture as the blood pact, wouldn’t that set off some alarm bells in Albus’s head, no matter how besotted? Why would your boyfriend suggest such a measure? But, if Albus was trying to protect an even more precious and dangerous secret (like the fact that Albus can’t bring himself to fight Gellert is because he loves him still, no other reason), he would find any way to hide that fact. Albus never expected Newt to bring back the blood pact from Paris, and in so doing Newt found a very convenient excuse for Albus to use, to fool Newt AND the audience as well. The blood pact is also called the blood troth, which is a betrothal, so I think that is all it was. I see no contradiction between the blood pact and the fact that the three of them were dueling each other.
Back to the duel. We already have Aberforth telling us that Albus was trying to prevent Gellert from hurting/dueling his brother, it is easy to follow through on that to the conclusion that Albus was fighting Gellert more than Aberforth. Which, as you said, gives Gellert the message the Albus is perfectly okay with Aberforth attacking Gellert, trying to hurt him, but it’s not okay for Gellert to defend himself. And that is an absolutely awful message to receive from anyone, let alone your boyfriend, your only equal. I don’t know about you, but I would be furious, hurt, and devastated. And thus enters Ariana.
Ariana reacts to the volatile situation around her, according to Aberforth. But also, I have to wonder if she’s sensitive to magic displays in general? Like, do they trigger a trauma response in her? I wouldn’t be surprised. Especially if it were violent magic in combination with high emotions and shouting. It really wouldn’t be surprising if her Obscurus got released. Which brings us back to the question of who killed Ariana: Albus, Aberforth, Gellert, or Ariana’s Obscurus? Why does everyone always leave out the possibility of Ariana’s Obscurus killing Ariana? She’s already older than we understand children with Obscurus’ to survive to...
And I love your take on why Gellert upped the ante. It makes a lot of sense that he was fearing Albus’s life when he saw Ariana’s Obscurus join the fight. After all, we do have confirmation of this vision from Albus in CoG (I’m going to ignore the killing-the-man-Gellert-“feared”-most for now). And so, he tries to stop her from harming Albus. Aberforth doesn’t know what is going on, he only sees that Gellert is attacking his sister (when it’s really that he’s attacking her parasite). Albus, I think, also fearing the same thing, not processing in the heat of the duel the reason behind Gellert’s actions, not understanding that it’s not Ariana he’s attacking.
Now, suddenly, Ariana’s dead. And Gellert freaks out, and so do her brothers. I mean, how many dead bodies has a 16 year old seen? And it’s even more than that, a death that he thinks he might have caused. Of course he shut down and couldn’t take in anything. All he’s hearing is yelling, and so he internalizes and hears what he thinks they’re saying. Overloaded with so many emotions, he ran.
Aberforth and Albus see his running different to why Gellert actually ran. Aberforth took it as an admission of guilt. Albus? Well, he doesn’t know. He knows Gellert to be innocent but doesn’t understand. Gellert has always stood by him, has always supported him, was always there for him when he needed him, and now, suddenly Gellert is not there. Suddenly, to Albus, he ran ... which was out of character for Gellert. Albus can’t see what lead to Gellert’s departure. He was blind-sighted because Albus needed Gellert - his sister just died! - and Gellert was always there when he needed him. He was blind-sighted because his eyes were on Gellert in that moment and he knew Gellert to be innocent.
And poor Albus never got the chance to chase after him - his sister had just died and he was devastated. His sister just died and his brother was devastated and livid. He didn’t know Gellert to still be in Godric’s Hollow until the next day. He was so busy trying to arrange things for Ariana’s death, he never got the chance to visit Bathilda. And maybe Gellert was somehow holding out for hope that Albus would come back to him in that time, but he didn’t. And Gellert couldn’t bare to bring himself to Albus’ to see the hate on his face, and the curses to be flung his way. He wasn’t emotionally prepared to deal with the fallout. He left the next day, brokenhearted. Albus stayed and was brokenhearted.
The End through Gellert’s Eyes.
The question of why Albus was so blindsided by Gellert leaving has always been a source of mild confusion to me. Why was he so blindsided by Gellert leaving? Gellert’s been involved in a duel where he attacked his brother and possibly killed his sister. Surely, running the hell away would seem self-explanatory. It’s possible Albus was blindsided by his love for Gellert and reeling by how quickly everything went down, but I think there’s another possibility.
Think back to Aberforth’s account of the duel from DH. He says ‘I don’t know which of us did it, it could’ve been any one of us.’ But then, Albus says only ‘you see, I never knew which of us...cast the curse that killed my sister.’ There’s a subtle difference. Aberforth believes it could’ve been any one of the three. Albus seems to say the same thing. But, as we know, Albus often deals in half-truths. He could be saying the same as Aberforth. Or...he could be saying ‘I don’t know who did do it, but I do know who didn’t.’
So. Gellert leaves in a state, thinking he’s killed Ariana. Seems logical. What if the reason Albus is so shocked, though, isn’t just because he’s lost the love of his life, but because he knows Gellert didn’t do it. I can just see him calling out, trying to get Gellert to hear him. But it’s too late.
Now, let’s consider the threeway duel through Gellert’s eyes. He’s finally found someone who he can carry out his plans with, someone who understands where he’s coming from, someone who loves and accepts him as he is. They’re going to make things better for their community, so none of them will have to hide. Then, Aberforth steps in and starts an argument. Gellert is quite happy to tell him to get stuffed, but he’s also hurt that Albus (probably) isn’t backing him up. He might not be agreeing, but he’s not arguing either. Doing nothing can sometimes be as bad as doing evil.
Then, things get heated. Now, I’ve got an established headcanon that Gellert could have psychological and neurological trauma from his Sight. As a result, he’d be extremely sensitive to strong emotions. And there is a lot of anger and bitterness in that situation. I suspect Aberforth is taunting him, snapping at him, etc. They’re fighting, it gets out of hand - and then, Albus joins in. On Aberforth’s side.
Of course, Gellert shouldn’t have cast Crucio. But there can be debate of how aware of it he was. He’s agitated, upset, stressed, confused, probably disoriented and trying to defend himself and what he believes in. And now, it seems Albus has turned on him.
And then, Ariana intervenes, presumably along with the Obscurus. At once, Gellert’s vision floods back to him and now he’s frightened. He realised that this could well be what he saw. He has to stop it. On instinct, propelled by the fear of his vision coming true, he ups the ante. He’s not looking to hurt Ariana, just fight the Obscurus. But as he ups the ante, so do the other two.
And then, Ariana is lying dead on the floor, Gellert is still upset and scared and disoriented etc, Aberforth and Albus are crying and screaming. He can’t make out any words, but he can guess what they’re calling him. Evil. Dark. Murderer. Finally, pushed over the edge, thinking he’s lost the love of his life and everything else he cherished, he runs.
One other thing worth noting. It’s stated in the book that Aberforth drew his wand first. It’s possible that he cast the first spell. Gellert goes second, probably defending himself. They fight. But Albus - from what I’ve gathered - does NOT intervene until Crucio is cast. And then he sides with Aberforth. That’s going to give Gellert the message that Albus is perfectly okay with Aberforth attacking and trying to harm him, but it’s not okay for Gellert to retaliate, even in self-defence.It would be even more cutting if Gellert didn’t have much of a concept of how bad the Cruciatus Curse was. Because he’s been taught that intent matters and he’s using it to defend himself. Sure, it’s a nuclear option, but with his mental state at that point, I could see his baser instincts taking over.
Of course, this is just my interpretation of what might have happened. But, from that perspective, it makes a lot of sense that Gellert would have left and run without looking back.

Some of my thoughts about Grindeldore in The Secrets of Dumbledore
So, im REALLY obsessed with this movie and i wrote some of my thoughts and i decided put it here.
First of all, english is not my native language, so im so sorry for any mistake, and obviously, in this post there are spoilers. LETS GO
The Restaurant scene
Their smiles kill me btw
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love the restaurant scene for how Gellert insists over and over that it was both planning a revolution, that Albus not only followed him because they were in love, because HE helped make their plans and HE turned his back on them. Phrases like "It was you who said we can reshape the world" and "Committed to me, to US" it makes that clear
I think that Gellert was so angry with Albus because, in his perspective, he went on with his life as if nothing happened and that bothers him, he has so much anger and bitterness in his heart that he doesn't see beyond appearances
He doesn't want Albus to make excuses, he wants the Albus he MET in 1899 in his side , but he hasn't realized of THAT Albus died with Ariana and only at the end does he realize that Albus left his arms forever
And Albus, this is where I asked myself what was his point in being there, did he just want to try and convince Gellert to break the pact or did he want to see if there was a way to deal with this situation without breaking it? Albus doesn't want to let Gellert go either (even though he knows that isn't the Gellert he fell in love with anymore), he wants to save Gellert and try to save what they have.
Gellert was hurt after Albus said "We can free each other", which is why i think he acts so mean to Albus in the rest of the scene (and in the movie!). Gellert loves and cares about the pact, he carried the Troth with him everywhere for about 28 years, that he had it in a chest pocket, that he sacrificed and risked his escape in order to get it back at the start of COG, it's very obvious that. I think he uses the pact all the time because it's a palpable reminder of the one time he felt understood and loved by an equal. He uses it because it makes him feel close to Albus.
This scene was perfect, and I thanks so much to Jude and Mads performace <3
How they talked about the other in the movie
Someone doesnt feels weird the way they talked about the other with another people in the movie? Like, sometimes it feels like their relantionships was not a secret. Gellert explicity admits to his acolites and Kama he knew and was a Dumbledore´s close friend.
I personally think that Gellert doesnt hide their relationship to anyone, he is very pround and selfish about their conextion (another reason for he posibble cares so much about the troth!). But Albus is the contrarian.
He talks about his realantionship but with a few people, talks about it with Thesus but only for convinced him. And says THREE times he loved Gellert (and one of it was to Gellert himself).
ALSO, Gellert and Albus are so obsessed with each other in the movie, like Albus mentions their love every time he can and Gellert have visions about Albus and look at him with the most look of longing have ever see, THEY'RE OBSESSED WITH EACH OTHER AND I LOVE IT!!
For next, my favorite part of the movie
The almost duel
Frist of all, THE SOUNDTRACK OF THS SCENE IS PRECIOUS AND GORGEOUS, thank you James Newton Howard.
And then, can we talk about Gellert's face in this frame and how he trembles at the mere thought of touching Albus after 30 years and realizing he can't hurt him because he still loves him so deeply?
Tumblr media
When they put their hands on each other's hearts, Albus keeps his hand outstretched, Gellert presses his hand to Albus's chest as if he wants to hold on to it, trembles at the thought of hurting him and clings to him in the face of it. His face of him is one of absolute despair, this is the moment where they realize that their destiny is inevitable and that they will repeat this duel one day.
Tumblr media
Now something that I find interesting is how Gellert trembles at the idea and lets his guard down for a moment, and Albus holds his wand up, he doesn't like the idea, but he's more determined to do it, that's the moment where he chooses to do what is right and not what is easy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And Albus, he doesn't even know how to feel about all of this. Should he feel angry with Gellert for left him? Should he be glad that he was stopped in that summer in the worst way possible? Would he be willing to give up the best two months of his life for his sister? He can hurt to the man he loves?
They both love each other, but that is the moment where they have lost each other and their reactions to it kill me. Gellert seeks to emotionally harm Albus and Albus just walks away, he does not seek to harm Gellert with his action from him, but the fact that he turns his back on him and shows a certain indifference after tremendous emotional shock hurts Gellert more and seeks to harm Albus more with his next action
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Who will love you now Dumbledore?, you're all alone" Those words seem more directed at himself than at Albus, he feels alone, and the only proof that someone really loved him lies broken on the ground.
It is also interesting how Gellert goes from calling him "Albus" at the beginning of the film to calling him "Dumbledore" at the end of it
I think Albus was more prepared for the idea of confronting him, from the beginning he raises the idea of getting rid of the troth and Gellert is resistant to the idea, he doesn't want to, it is the only physical proof he has of his and he clings to it. Item.
Gellert is an emotional wreck and unlike Albus, he doesn't have people who love and support him unconditionally, he's alone.
He is a man who does not know how to deal with strong emotions (and it has been shown since fbwtft) and that is his greatest weakness. Dumbledore always talks about how love is the most powerful magic because he thinks it is what we don't know. He doesn't even feel lovable, but he keeps thinking about it.
And every day I am more convinced that Gellert's feelings for Albus are the reason why he loses THE duel, that Gellert's love for him is enough for him to repent and let him win, and thats why Albus locks Gellert in Nurmergard, because he has faith that he will regret it because he already showed signs of it
The end of the movie
"I was never your enemy..." says Gellert to the public, and then proceed to search Albus, look at him to the eyes and says "...then or now"
Tumblr media
I was speechless at first, THIS MAN hurts Albus firts and he feels betrayed and emotionally hurt by him, BUT HE STILL WANTS ALBUS ON HIS SIDE. I HAVE NO WORDS FOR THAT.
The end of the movie is so sad, Albus promeses to Thesues find and captured Gellert after have that moment is so hurtful. See the pact broken is a hurtful pain and he cant explain that.
(btw Newt is a great friend for Albus in this movie, all the time he helps and supports because he knows that this hurts him, he doesn't judge him and that's why i adore Newt so much)
Tumblr media
At the very end see Albus seeing the wedding was so sad, i cant belived how that scene is so painful and so happy and the same time. I actually refuse to belive that they dont invite Albus to the wedding, but the fact that he stays alone in the street see something that nows it will never be able to live it's a very hurtful moment, and a very sad ending for him.

The only way I’d be okay if there weren’t any Summer of 1899 flashbacks in Secrets of Dumbledore (I would still be sad) is if adult Grindeldore met up in the movie, without a shadow of a doubt that Albus is gay, and/or it is clear that he was gay for Gellert and they were (still are?) in love. That’s the only way I wouldn’t be super disappointed, and an assurance that flashbacks would be in the following movie(s). Is that too much to ask? I mean they have to have flashback sometime, the three way duel is too dramatic to gloss over.

THE SECRETS OF DUMBLEDORE: DISCUSSION
!CONTAINS SPOILERS!
well, hello, I guess many of you haven't seen me for some time so here's the thing - I've been isolating myself ever since the trailer came out. I wanted to have a clear mind watching it at the cinema, so I uninstalled Tumblr and YouTube etc etc
I’ve just gone back home from the premiere of Fantastic Beasts 3 and oh my, I have so many mixed feelings about it, so here I am, just in need to put it off my chest and hoping to start discussion
First of all, WE FINALLY GET THE LOVE CONFESSION ON SCREEN!!! When I tell you I gasped so loudly when it happened, and it was lilke 2 minutes after the begging!!
I am SO DISSAPOINTED BECAUSE WE DIDNT GET ANY FLASHBACKS, all these years I've been waiting for some summer of 1899 flashbacks and for what?
THE NEW GRINDELWALD IS SO WELL PLAYED, I started to hate him even more after this movie, especially after the final of the three-way duel
WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED WITH CREDNECE, I mean, the whole thing was just too much for me, so messy, at some point I thought he’s Albus’s and Gellert’s child
THE GOOD THING IS, I’M SURE THERE’S GONNA BE AT LEAST ONE MORE PART, so I still have something to anticipate for

Note
is the summer of 1899 discussed in much detail? like do we learn anything new
Hmmm.
I don't think we learn anything new, tbh. There is a slightly different explanation in regards to the sequence of the three-way-duel, though. And, of course, Aberforth carries a secret with him that is connected to this summer and is discussed. Apart from that there are no recent insights.

When you were liveblogging DGS2/GAA2 over on your sideblog (which I was sadly not following along with since I was gladly playing the game myself and didn't want spoilers) you made a post on this blog about imagining more shenanigans for the modern day/bullshit defense au. Since the game has now been out for a month I was wondering if you would be interested in sharing them? (Please tell me Someone regrets his new white suit when he gets a stain)
I figured there would be some people who dropped away for that liveblog because hey, they had the chance to easily play it themselves now, and I'm just happy that it is so easily available to play now. They're good games!
Anyway, blanket spoiler warning for both DGS/The Great Ace Attorney games below. So many spoilers.
So my initial scenario that I mentioned when playing the first game was Ryuu, Susato, and Kazuma shadowing van Zieks, and that's been made hilarious given the entire situation with van Zieks and his apprentice in the second game. I'm keeping that scenario and just expanding on it, because it works even better with the second game's context.
-
London Study Abroad, Day 1: a man burns to death in an uber that was simultaneously the crime scene and evidence and no we still don't know how they got it into the courthouse.
London Study Abroad, Day 2: Ryuu and Susato are studying over in the corner of Barok's office while Kazuma is on the phone and Barok is at his desk ignoring all three of the students, when suddenly Kazuma walks over to the desk and slaps one hand down on it, his other hand holding his phone back a little bit from his mouth.
"Hey, Prosecutor van Zieks," he says. "My dad says to stop being so rude to us."
"No, he doesn't," says Barok without looking up.
Kazuma hands him the phone. Ryuu and Susato are watching now, and are very surprised to see Barok actually take the phone and answer with a deadpan "Yes?"
"Barok," says Genshin Asogi, on the other end of the phone, on the other side of the world, "why does my son tell me that you are currently drinking wine, in the office?"
It is 11:17 am GMT and Barok is indeed drinking wine. "I don't know," he says. "Why did your son tell you that?"
This is the first time that Barok and Genshin have spoken in like three years.
-
Now this is less shenanigans and more me laying out some complex groundwork that I have overthought because what else do I do! I hope that's nonetheless acceptable.
Since this modern AU is adjacent to the Bullshit Defense AU, that means we are allowed to resurrect at least one dead parent. I have chosen Genshin Asogi for this honor and add him to the ranks of Gregory, Byrne, Misty, Metis, and Dhurke.
So for the incidents a decade prior, the same situation carries over from the game, initially. Genshin, Mikotoba, and Jigoku are all studying in London, and while Mikotoba is running around solving crimes, Genshin becomes very good friends with Klint van Zieks, and Barok. Klint still ends up a killer; Genshin still ends up discovering this, but instead of them handling this with a duel like idiots in 1899, Genshin ends up finding evidence and gets Klint arrested on suspicion of murder. Before his trial, though, Klint mysteriously dies in prison of "Mael Stronghart tying off a loose end who could reveal him to be a blackmailing piece of shit" disease.
Genshin and Barok's friendship is...understandably strained by this. Barok finding out his brother who he so loved and idolized was a murderer, but that matter wasn't even resolved in court with a verdict, it's just hanging open forever now, and this all about Klint having been brought to light by Klint's best friend, who Barok also admired... Barok does not take it very well. And while Genshin wants to look out for Klint's little brother, for Klint's sake, there's only so much he can do, and it's even harder once he returns to Japan. He still reaches out to Barok on occasion, and Barok would sometimes briefly respond, but that line of communication has slowly died over the years. Both of them think there was some sort of foul play involved in Klint's death, and both of them think that there are loose threads, but neither knows what to do with it.
Then one day, a memo goes around the Prosecutors Office asking for someone to mentor two Japanese exchange students by the names of Kazuma Asogi and Susato Mikotoba, and Barok reads the first of those names and remembers that his brother's good friend Genshin Asogi had a son named Kazuma and just thinks. huh. Knowing that he is going to immediately regret it, Barok volunteers to mentor the exchange students, wondering maybe if there's some way he can uncover more information about Klint's crimes and death.
Kazuma, for his part, knows that his father has an old friend who is a prosecutor in London, who went through some rough stuff, but maybe you can see how he's doing now, and Kazuma meets Barok and is like "wow my father didn't tell me that you were a complete jackass."
Susato and Ryuu, meanwhile, didn't even know about Genshin and Barok's old friendship, and so the phone situation just leaves them beyond confused as they watch the frightening and cold Prosecutor van Zieks grow progressively more animated in a phone conversation with Kazuma's father. This is still their second full day in London. Everything happens so much.
Anyway, eventually, with help from Sholmes and after a bunch of increasingly wild scenarios, they end up discovering the full truth of what happened with Klint, and revealing Stronghart's role in his crimes, which allows Barok and Genshin to return to good terms with each other.
Also yeah Kazuma manages to wear white for 2 hours before he gets wine spilled on him. What did he expect when this office is more a wine cellar than an office!

Things I’ve been thinking about:
That summer of 1899 with Kendra’s death, Gellert, and the three-way duel, Aberforth was only fifteen. He was only going into his fifth year, hadn’t even done his OWLs yet. At fifteen he’d lost every family member bar Albus and had the cruciatus curse used on him.
In contrast, in DH, he’s like 113 and still ready to throw some absolute hands with any Death Eater in the vicinity and honestly i love that for him

Red Dead Cupid: Friends in Arms
Hello @katerix I’m your Red Dead cupid! I chose your request for Landon Ricketts x f!Reader being best friends, passing time\chilling together, when not busy maintaining an order around. I hope you like it! @rdr-secret-cupid
I also chose a bit of a different writing POV, just trying something a little different.
Tumblr media
I lean back in my chair, the heat washing over me. It isn’t really much of a bother anymore, I’m long used to the unforgiving sun. It’s a requirement when you live down in Mexico. I take one last drag from my cigarette and then throw it down, pressing it out with my boot. On my left is the small table with my shot glass of whiskey, the chair on the other side empty but expectant for its usual occupant.
After a moment of watching a hawk lazily circle on the air currents, the chair creaks. I look over and see my most trusted companion and lifelong friend. Landon Ricketts. Yeah, I know what you’re thinking, and yes it is the famed Landon Ricketts, the fastest draw in the West and famed gunslinger.
He sighs heavily and drinks his shot of whiskey, grimacing at the burn. He looks worn out, but he always looks that way. After all, he hasn’t had a quiet life until recently, if you can really call his life now quiet. I do though, but that may be because I was with him a decent amount of the time he was living wild in the deserts of America.
“Them Gutierrez boys giving you trouble again?” I ask as he leans back, pulling out a cigarette.
“When aren’t they?” he says in his gruff voice.
“I’m surprised you’ve been as patient with them as you have been,” I comment.
“I’m tired of those days, y/n. And I’ve told you, I wanna give that nonsense up, try for something different. But, guess even in a different country, I can’t escape my past.”
I sigh, knowing what he means. As a teenager, Landon found me as a wild orphan, threatening anyone and challenging absolutely everyone to a gunfight. It was a dark time for me. I’d lost my family and through the anger that rose from my grief, I tried taking it out on everyone around me. Landon came through town, and how could I not challenge him? The most famous gunslinger.
I still remember the way he looked at me when I threatened him. He just laughed and turned his back to me, so I shot him. Or tried to. I was a real bad shot and my bullet whizzed right past him. But he turned back to me. Guess I made some kind of impression on him, because after that, he took me in. Taught me how to shoot and fight.
We ran together for a few years after that, became just as close as two gunslingers could. It wasn’t unusual for people back then to confuse him as my father, which sometimes we played along with if we were robbing someone. But the truth was it bothered me. Landon was never a father figure to me, but he was my friend. He was the only person who recognized my anger in my youth as a plea for help. I trusted him more than anyone.
In my late twenties, I ended up drifting off from Landon. Not on purpose, but he was always on the move. He had to be with his notoriety. At one point, I didn’t see him for so long I just sort of made my own way and fell into a gang of outlaws. Having a dirty history myself, I fit right in. The leader, Dutch, was a good man at first, but he ended up going crazy when the gang fell apart through a series of tragedies. By that point though, I’d already fallen in love and married his right hand man Arthur Morgan.
I loved Arthur, more than anything. He was one of the few members in that gang who knew my past with Landon, but he kept my secret. I didn’t tell anyone about Landon because I didn’t always appreciate his fame. Whenever anyone found out I ran with him, they’d bombard me with questions about him. It was always about him. Arthur understood, and he didn’t talk or ask about him much.
But then, Arthur died in 1899 of tuberculosis. His death crushed me. Dutch was so far gone in his madness that I just ended up leaving. Besides, the gang was finished by that point anyways, sometimes I’m amazed I didn’t end up getting killed in the process. I was so lost though when Arthur passed, I don’t remember much from after that period. I buried him and then I remember I stayed near his grave for a long time.
A couple of months passed after Arthur’s passing. I was still lost in my grief, living near his grave. One day, Landon showed up in the cabin I was living in. He said nothing but he threw down a newspaper at my feet. The top article was about my gang that fell apart.
“How did you know?” I asked.
“Because I know you,” Landon said. “I may not have been around much, but I know you. You think I didn’t know about your marriage to Arthur? When I read about him, I knew I needed to find you. I’m very sorry for your loss, y/n.”
Landon was the first person to comfort you about Arthur. I didn’t want to live like this anymore, in my solitude and kept company by nothing aside from my grief. Although I was still shattered, I considered going with Landon, but I told him I didn’t want to live the wild life of an outlaw anymore.
“I’ve done that already,” I said, “I don’t wanna do it anymore. It leads to nothing but pain.”
Landon agreed and said he wanted to do the same. He was also tired of the life, of any man who had even a sliver of confidence challenging him to a duel. He wanted to help people, to make some peace out of the violence he’d sewn.
So after that, I went with him down southwest. At first, we tried settling in places like Armadillo and Tumbleweed. But Landon’s fame followed him and he couldn’t escape the life he was trying to leave behind. That was when I decided that maybe it would be better to go down to Mexico. After all, everywhere I went reminded me of my husband. I just wanted to escape the memories, not because I regretted my marriage, but because I just wanted relief from my pain.
Landon agreed to the idea of Mexico, so a few years ago we settled down in the town of Chuparosa. It was a fairly wild town, overrun with gangs and troublemakers. It took some time, but we got it tamed. It was Landon’s idea to sort of make ourselves the equivalent of sheriffs, as the town lacked any real form of law. I half-heartedly agreed, even though being a peacekeeper was the opposite of what I used to do and the kind of person I used to run from.
But even down here, Landon was chased by his past. Sometimes a vigilante would come, having heard of Landon’s presence and would try to take him on. Luckily those types of men were few and far between.  Every once in a while, one of the gangs we’d chased out would come back and try to cause trouble. But we were more than a match for them. The Gutierrez brothers were the last to not get the hint, until today.
Landon puts out his cigarette. Just as I’m about to say something, a young woman comes running up to him. I recognize her of course, Luisa Fortuna. A fiery member, and an enthusiastic member of the rebellion going on in Mexico. She’s breathing excitedly.
“Ricketts! The Guiterrez brothers. They’re back!”
Landon sighs and leans forward. He checks his pistol before reholstering it. “How long before I end up having to shoot these fools?” he says and stands up. I follow him, telling myself I can help if things get out of hand. Truth is though I just want to see these idiots get what they're owed. They’ve been a problem for too long and getting far too confident.
Just as we’re rounding the corner to the main street, I hear a familiar voice, taunting someone. That voice… it brings the dull pain I’ve sat on for ten years. I jog past Landon and find on the main street one of the Gutierrez brothers facing someone I haven’t seen since my gang fell apart. He’s grown older and he looks far more serious than I’ve ever seen him, but there’s no denying who he is: John Marston.
As Landon joins your side, John and the Gutierrez brother suddenly draw their weapons and shoot. John’s bullet finds its mark, but the other Gutierrez brothers pull out their guns to avenge their fallen brother. However they’re no match for John. Not that I’m surprised. He learned from some of the best gunslingers. I think the only person who had a better education in shooting is myself thanks to Landon.
When the last brother falls, Landon saunters forward as John holsters his gun. “I must admit, I’m impressed. Not many men would take on all the Gutierrez brothers and even fewer who could have taken them all down.”
“Who are you?” John asks, his eyes mean. It’s a bit strange, he always had a light in his eyes. Then again, I haven’t seen him since Arthur died after he sacrificed himself to the Pinkertons to save me and John. I guess it’s really no surprise that he’s changed too since then.
“Landon Ricketts. This is my town, I been trying to keep these boys under control, obviously not well. But now I’m curious. A fella like you who can take all of them down without hardly blinking an eye, I gotta ask. What you doin’ all the way down here?”
“I’m lookin’ for… some old friends of mine. One of ‘em came running down here and I think he’s met up with the other.”
This strikes me. He must be looking for me, but how did he hear I was down here? I walk out of the shadows of the building and look hard at him. John’s eyes widen.
“Y/n? What you doin’ down here?”
“Thought you said you was lookin’ for some old friends. I assumed you meant me.”
He shuffles his feet a bit. “No, I wasn’t. I didn’t even know you were down here.”
Landon turns to me. “You know this man?”
I nod. “Yes. He was my husband’s brother. I thought you were dead, John.”
Over the next few hours, the three of us sit at the saloon and talk. I tell John about my relationship to Landon and why I came down here with him after that whole mess with the gang. John then discloses his past, how he tried to come clean of his outlaw days. He and Abigail ran a ranch outside of Blackwater, but then the Pinkertons, in their determination to get Dutch, took his family hostage in order to get John to hunt down his former gang members.
When John tells me this, I feel a plummet in my stomach. I lean forward and look at him, daring him. “So these Pinkertons want you to kill your old gang members. That mean you’re gonna kill me?”
John looks at you, his brows furrowed. “I don’t know, y/n. I’m not sure the Pinkertons even know you’re down here. I assumed you died shortly after Arthur…”
Landon looks between the two of us but doesn’t interrupt. He knows I need to settle this myself. Landon has never been a man to fight my battles for me. It’s proven a frustration in the past, but at this moment, it’s appreciated.
“Then John, I don’t know how much I can be of help to you. I ain’t giving those bastards a reason to kill me. If they’re going after Javier and Bill just for their associations with Dutch, they’ll definitely want me dead too. I was married to Dutch’s right hand man, after all.”
Landon turns to me. “I think you’re making a mistake, y/n.”
I turn to refute him, but he cuts me off. “You’ve been wasting away with me these past ten years. I haven’t wanted to say it, but whatever happened with that gang broke you. I don’t know what this Arthur Morgan was like, but I’m guessing he didn’t give his life up for you and his brother to see you live like this.”
“He also hated revenge. Always said it was a fool’s game. I’m not killing Bill and Javier.”
“You don’t have to,” John says. “I’ll do the killing, but it would sure be helpful if I had you by my side.”
I sigh. Landon’s right, Arthur wouldn’t want me to let John go alone. Not after everything he gave up for us both to live. However I’m sure that the end of this journey will end in one way: my death. Perhaps it wouldn’t be so bad though. After all, Landon’s right. I’ve been wasting away in liquor and grief down here. I stopped living a long time ago.
I throw back my shot of tequila. “Alright, John. I’ll help you find Javier and Bill.”
I glance over at Landon and see he’s smiling. Now that I think about it, he’s never wanted this life for me. He used to say I had a fire that could not be doused. He must have known that this life, sitting in this hot, boring town and watching my life go on without me was never for me. That’s why he never searched for me while I was with the gang. I was doing what made me happy.
As I think about it, I realize now how much I’ve missed that life. Running wild and free. No it was never easy, but it was me. Living in this town as a sheriff is not what I want to do. I’m not cut out for it. I realize that John is giving me an opportunity to do what I’m meant to do. Sure, it won’t bring back the glory days from the gang, but it’s the next best thing. And if I die doing it, it’d be better than dying here, old and wishing I could have done things differently.
Finally resolved, I stand up. “Okay, John. Let’s go find these bastards and get your family back.”

The Dumbledore Family - A Timeline
Spoilers ahead for Crimes of Grindelwald, if it isn’t obvious.
I’ve already made several posts about the movie and my opinions, they’re on my blog if anyone wants to go read them. But since then, I’ve seen a lot of posts floating around of people saying that it’s not possible for Credence to be a Dumbledore because the timeline doesn’t add up, and after a minimal amount of googling and math, technically speaking it is possible. I’ve also seen several different theories floating around regarding Credence and the Dumbledore family. So, I figured I would lay out the Dumbledore family timeline, and all of the theories I’ve seen using the information we know from canon.
1881 - Albus Dumbledore is born
1883 - Aberforth Dumbledore is born
1885 - Ariana Dumbledore is born
1891 - Ariana is attacked by a group of muggle boys (at the age of 6), Percival Dumbledore is then sent to Azkaban after attacking them in retaliation (it is unknown at what age he died after this occurrence).
1899 - Kendra Dumbledore is killed in an explosion of Ariana’s powers (at the age of fourteen)
1899 - Ariana is killed (at the age of fourteen) in a three-way duel between Albus, Aberforth and Gellert Grindelwald
1901 - Credence is born (as confirmed by the Crimes of Grindelwald Screenplay)
1901 - Credence is taken aboard a ship from Europe to America by his aunt (as confirmed by the Crimes of Grindelwald Screenplay) and is switched with Baby Corvus by Leta. He is then adopted by Mary-Lou Barebone.
Based on this timeline, it is not possible for Credence to be Kendra Dumbledore’s son. However, it is unknown at what age Percival Dumbledore died, just that it was sometime after 1891. Technically speaking, it is possible for Percival to have sired another child via another woman while he was in Azkaban (and I wouldn’t put it passed J.K. to write this into the storyline), making Credence the half-brother of the Dumbledore siblings.
I would also like to add that it’s known that the Dumbledore siblings had an aunt named Honoria. I believe she’s mentioned in Tales of Beedle the Bard. It’s unknown whether she was Kendra or Percival’s sister. But given that Kendra was a muggleborn witch, it’s most likely that Honoria was Percival’s sister. Therefore if Credence is Aurelius Dumbledore, it’s likely that it was Honoria that was the one with him on the ship that sunk (and the screenplay does say Credence’s aunt).
Now, I don’t necessarily believe that Credence is Aurelius Dumbledore. But at the same time, I don’t not believe it either. It’s obvious that Credence is a very powerful wizard, otherwise how would he have survived with an obscurus inside of him all this time. Other evidence is how powerful his blasting the side of the mountain at the end of Crimes of Grindelwald was. That being said, someone pointed out that Grindelwald doesn’t actually say in the movie that Credence is Albus Dumbledore’s brother, and I checked the screenplay, and he doesn’t.
Grindelwald: You have suffered the most heinous of betrayals, most purposely bestowed upon by your own blood. Your own flesh and blood. And just as he has celebrated your torment, your brother seeks to destroy you.
CREDENCE inhales sharply. His chick steps gingerly into GRINDELWALD’S palm. GRINDELWALD throws it in the air, where it catches alight.
Grindelwald: There is a legend in your family that a phoenix will come to any member who is in dire need.
Given room at last, the bird stretches its wings and becomes full size. The bird is aflame, the phoenix reborn.
Grindelwald: It is your birthright, my boy. As is the name I now restore to you. Aurelius. Aurelius Dumbledore.
Technically, Grindelwald never actually says he’s Dumbledore’s brother. He just says that his brother seeks to destroy him, and then later he says that Credence’s name is Aurelius Dumbledore. Now, as far as we’re aware, none of the Dumbledore’s had any children, and I’m not saying that I think Credence is the child of any of them. It’s just another theory I saw floating around that someone thought Credence might be Aberforth’s son.
Regardless, we know that Credence must be a powerful wizard, and if I’m being honest, it would be quite ridiculous for them to spend an entire movie making us think that Credence is Corvus Lestrange, only for them to reveal that he isn’t, and then reveal that he’s Aurelius Dumbledore, and then later reveal that he isn’t yet again. I’m not putting it past them, because anything is possible with J.K. Rowling, but it would be quite ridiculous to have Credence’s parentage revealed as a red herring not just once, but twice. But the evidence that he’s a Dumbledore in some way is kinda stacking up.
Also, the phoenix coming to Credence is kind of damning evidence that he’s a Dumbledore given what we know about phoenixes and the Dumbledore family. Though I have seen the theories floating around about how the phoenix wasn’t reborn as a fully grown phoenix until after Grindelwald touched it. But most of those theories hinge on Dumbledore’s blood from the blood pact being what causes the phoenix to be reborn, but at this point in the movie, Grindelwald no longer has the blood vial, Newt and Dumbledore do.
As for the people that are arguing that it wouldn’t be possible for him to be Albus Dumbledore’s brother otherwise we’d have heard of him during the Harry Potter series at some point, I have a counter argument. Most of the canon information we know about the Dumbledore family is known as a result of Aberforth, or Rita Skeeter’s tell all book. Dumbledore was never really an open character, and hardly discussed Ariana at all during the series. That being said, as much as it pains me to say this, if Credence dies at some point during the FB series, I do think it’s very possible for him to be a Dumbledore. Albus was never very open, and if Credence died, and Aberforth didn’t know of his existence, then it would make sense for him to have never been mentioned. As for Rita Skeeter, well she’s not the most reliable source, and if very few people were aware that Credence was a Dumbledore, how would Rita Skeeter ever have gotten that information if Credence dies before the end of FB?
There’s one other theory I’ve seen floating around regarding Credence being referred to as Aurelius Dumbledore. That theory is based around the idea that people think Ariana was an obscurial herself, and that the obscurus in Credence is actually the obscurus that was in Ariana when she died. If this is the case, then when Grindelwald says “your brother seeks to destroy you,” he’s speaking in reference to the obscurus which was once in Ariana. In addition, the name Aurelius is awfully similar to Ariana, and we know that it’s possible to separate an obscurus from it’s host, seeing as Newt managed to do it in FB1.
I don’t necessarily believe or not believe anything at this point. This post is simply to point out that it is possible for Credence to be Dumbledore’s brother, just as I’m pointing out that technically Grindelwald never said that in the first place. The fact that Credence is so obviously powerful, and the fact that the phoenix came to him makes me believe that he is a Dumbledore in one way or another whether that be by birth, or by Grindelwald referring to the obscurus inside of him. But I’m just gathering the evidence and the theories I’ve seen floating around into one place, and putting my two cents in.
To be honest, I would be fine with any of these circumstances. Do I wish they could’ve just made Credence his own character that had just developed an obscurus, with no attachment to a pre-existing wizarding family? Kind of. But I’m not mad either with what J.K. has decided to do with the character either. To be honest, I’m okay regardless because there are several possibilities, and I know that if anyone deserves to be a member of the Dumbledore family, it’s Ezra Miller (bless his Harry Potter fanboy heart).
Please feel free to message me or send me asks screaming at me or punching holes in any of these theories. I did not come up with them, I’ve just seen them floating around and decided to elaborate and add my own evidence. Even if you just want someone to scream at about the movie, then I’m all ears.
thank u for coming to my TED talk.

Seeing Tina in action, her having a much active role after having a minor role in FB 3. I've heard she was meant to have a bigger role in FB 3 at first but that it wasn't made possible. Maybe it will be shown in the sequel, should we have one (please yes)
Credence / Aurelius
What happened to Credence? Did he survive? Did he die in Aberforth's arms? Were they able to talk about Credence's mother? To properly say goodbye? Was Credence feeling loved, at least, as he died? What would be the consequences of his death?
Aberforth Dumbledore
With Credence dying and Grindelwald's active role in corrupting his son, Aberforth may take a more active role in the war against Grindelwald. Poor man has lost too much because of Grindelwald. Ariana, Credence, his relationship with Albus never really recovered
The Hallows
We need to have the Hallows being introduced. It was also part of Albus and Gellert's quest. Grindelwald has the Elder Wand, does Dumbledore know it? Is Grindelwald seeking for the stone and the invisibility cloak?
Fawkes
We need to see Fawkes. Was it Credence's phoenix? A gift from Newt? How and when did Albus and Fawkes met and chose each other?
Grindelwald’s followers
What happens to Grindelwald's acolyte after his defeat? Would we have a final battle, much like the battle of Hogwarts? Would we see Newt, Tina, Theseus, Queenie, Minerva, Aberforth and co fighting Grindelwald's followers?
A possible link to the Harry Potter series?
I don't know if it will be told but imagine... FB 5 ending with Newt and co attending Dumbledore's funeral in HP6 and WB MAKING UP TO US BY MAKING GELLERT FACING VOLDEMORT AND REFUSING TO TELL HIM WHERE THE ELDER WAND IS, showing us that even if a new evil rose, there's still hope and that love is the greatest magic ever.
Albus and Gellert
We definitely need more Grindeldore moments, not just because people ship them and hope for a kiss, but because their story is a tragic and fascinating one and there's still so much to say about them. How did they meet, how did they fall apart, did they met each other again between FB 3 and their infamous duel? If so, how? when? what did happen?
The ending
Because Newt, Tina, Jacob, Queenie and co deserve a happy ever after.

Credence Theory
At the end of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, Grindelwald tells Credence that he’s Dumbledore’s brother. However, that might not be quite true.
Albus Dumbledore, the eldest of the three Dumbledore children was born in 1881 and Aberforth was born in 1883. In 1885, Ariana Dumbledore was born. However, in 1891, Ariana was attacked by three muggle boys and she became an obscurial. Percival Dumbledore attacked and murdered the boys and was sent to Azkaban. Ariana’s condition worsened, and in 1899, Ariana had an episode and accidentally killed her mother. Afterwards, Albus came back home and met Gellert Grindelwald. The two quickly became close friends and they were obsessed with finding the deathly hallows, so at the time, Albus didn’t want to be tied down to a sister that needed constant attention, but Aberforth, the only remaining family member was still in school. Albus and Aberforth ended up having an argument about it which turned into a three way duel between Albus, Gellert, and Aberforth. During that duel, Ariana was hit by a spell and was killed. It is unknown who cast the fatal spell, but both Albus and Aberforth never forgave themselves for it.
This means that there’s no way Credence could have been the son of Kendra and Percival Dumbledore, because he couldn’t have been born earlier than 1901, and Kendra Dumbledore died in 1899. Also, Percival was sent to Azkaban in 1891 and remained there until he died. However, it is cannon that Albus Dumbledore has a witch aunt named Honoria. It is unknown whether she is Percival or Kendra’s sister, but Kendra was a muggle-born, and while it is possible for two muggle-born children from the same parents to be magical, for example Colin and Dennis Creevey, it is very unlikely, so there’s a better chance that she is Percival’s sister. Honoria was engaged to a wizard, but she called it off when she caught him fondling some horklumps”. Therefore, if she is Percival’s sister, then her last name would still be Dumbledore, because she never married after that. It would also explain why she was on the boat to begin with, because a woman getting pregnant without being married was very scandalous at the time, so she probably wanted a new start. Therefore, it is possible for Credence Barebone to actually be Aurelius Dumbledore, even if it isn’t possible for him to be the son of Kendra and Percival Dumbledore.

ou know what would be cool?  A young Dumbledore movie.  (After they finish Fantastic Beasts 3, 4, and 5, which are slated for 2020, 2022, and 2024.)  Warner Bros is going to want to keep pumping out movies set in the Harry Potter Wizarding World because it makes them a ton of money and they also have theme parks to keep promoting.  In the Fantastic Beasts series, Dumbledore is a middle-aged background character.
The FB movie series is centered around Newt and his friends, and Dumbledore’s impending famous duel with Grindelwald is looming around in the background somewhere.   A movie about the life and times of Albus Dumbledore would be perfect to show what made him the great headmaster he grew to be during the Harry Potter books/movies.  We get mere hints of that in FB 2, and while I imagine we’ll get more in the next three movies, Dumbledore is such a well-loved and multifaceted character, I think the potential for a really meaty character driven story is already there in the HP texts.
The Star Wars franchise has an Obi-Wan Kenobi movie in talks, so spinoffs are something that franchises are considering.  In a way, Lord of the Rings did it with the Hobbit, which was Bilbo’s story originally written in a relatively small book that was turned into three ridiculously long movies.  Star Trek is making a series based around an older Jean-Luc Picard.  Spinoffs really do have merit and if it’s around a character that catches peoples’ interest, it could be an entertaining and financially successful endeavor.
So if it ever does get approved, what should it be about?  (Harry Potter 7 book spoilers ahead.)  I’d love to see Dumbledore as a magical prodigy child growing up with his ill sister, the incident where his father gets put in Azkaban, Dumbledore having to prove himself at Hogwarts as a super overachiever to overcome the stain on the family name, him and his friend Elphias Doge getting up to Weasley twins-esque mischief at school, his mother Kendra’s death and Albus’ subsequent role as caretaker of his younger brother Aberforth and younger sister Ariana, who is more than likely an Obscurial with very unstable magic.
I’d like to see what made Dumbledore ultimately decide to be a Professor at Hogwarts, and why he switched from Defense Against the Dark Arts to Transfiguration.  I’d like to meet Headmaster Dippet and the other teachers that were Dumbledore’s mentors.  I’d like to see young Hagrid and the other students that had Dumbledore as a teacher when he was relatively young.  I’d like to see Dumbledore teach Tom Riddle and later grow suspicious of Tom’s motives.   Dumbledore was the only teacher out of all the faculty at Hogwarts that saw Tom Riddle, aka the future Lord Voldemort, for what he truly was.   And do you know why?  Because he knew exactly what to look for.   Because Dumbledore learns from his mistakes and he wasn’t about to make the same one twice.
Because Gellert Grindelwald happened.
I think this would be the main draw, the real meat of the story.  After that absolute tease of a scene between them in FB2, I want to see the summer of 1899 where they meet, (thank you Bathilda Bagshot) share ideas about planning their revolution around wizarding domination over the muggles, and fall in love.  Well, Dumbledore falls in love.  It’s not completely clear if those romantic feelings are reciprocated, if Grindelwald is just using Dumbledore as a means to an end.  I want to know exactly how and when Dumbledore realized that Grindelwald was truly evil, and it wouldn’t necessarily have to be the threeway duel between him, Aberforth, and Grindelwald in which Ariana gets killed although that would certainly be the last straw.   I want to see him agonizing over losing his sister and Gellert all in one day and watch Aberforth break his nose at Ariana’s funeral.
If this movie was made by some miracle, WB would have to deal with the homosexuality issue.  How much or how little could they include?  No matter what, some people will be upset or offended.  Some people online have been disappointed that Dumbledore didn’t have an ‘explicity gay’ moment in FB2.   However, that was Newt Scamander’s movie so taking a whole scene explaining Dumbledore’s sexuality just would not have worked – the movie was enough of a mess of plotlines already.  I think they really did the best they could without completely alienating their audience.  Dumbledore sees Grindelwald in the Mirror of Erised, which shows you the deepest desire of your heart.  Dumbledore and Grindelwald made a blood pact as teenagers never to fight each other.  They gazed at each other and intertwined their hands.   Dumbledore told the ministry official guy that they were closer than brothers.  They don’t have to explicitly say it!  Good grief.  That was way more than I was expecting them to include and I want to give props to WB for allowing it as there could’ve been a backlash.
But in a Dumbledore-centric movie, they would have time to explore the issue.  It would be the late 2020s if they made it several years after FB5.  That would give us another decade to get more comfortable and used to the idea of gay marriage and gay characters and the importance of their representation in media.  I really think if they did a young Dumbledore movie they would need to address how LGBT relationships worked in the wizarding world, which would be really interesting.  I imagine that they would not be accepted and have to be kept secret when Dumbledore was young if the muggle world was any indication, but they could go in a different direction if they wanted to.   I would prefer it they didn’t turn the story into Dumbledore’s cliché tragic gay love story and instead focused on Dumbledore’s inner struggle as he experiences the events in his life that lead up to him becoming the wise old wizard that mentors Harry Potter.   His sexuality is only one of the many things that define him.
Timing really is everything and our world would need to be at least lukewarmly receptive to a movie with a main character who is gay.   There would be a huge issue with a character in a children’s book being portrayed as gay in a movie, even though JK Rowling herself outed Dumbledore in 2007 and there is no indication of it in the books.  A young Dumbledore movie wouldn’t be aimed at children.  It would most likely be PG-13, like FB.  The violent revolutionary concepts that Dumbledore and Grindelwald are planning alone would give it a higher rating.  It would be up to the parents to decide if the movie and its content would be appropriate for their child to see it or not.
But honestly, this would be a movie that the LGBT community could really use.   It would be a positive role model navigating through his teenage/early twenties years while coming to grips with his sexuality and ultimately deciding to accept and forgive himself (for the most part) for all of his mistakes and decide to reject his quest for power and use his exceptional magical powers for actual good, not ‘The Greater Good’.    It would also be a great “non-example” of what a healthy relationship would look like, as Gellert Grindelwald certainly will be manipulating the hell out of poor innocent Albus Dumbledore.   (You can learn a lot from non examples!)
I also think that Dumbledore’s character not being incredibly flamboyant (as evidenced by everything we know about him so far) would be a good way to portray a non-stereotypical gay character.  I have nothing against flamboyant characters, but not every gay person acts that way, just like not every woman likes to wear dresses and heels.  (That doesn’t mean that Dumbledore can’t look fabulous in purple.)
JK Rowling has stated that Dumbledore is her favorite HP character and after FB2, he’s now mine.   Growing up I loved Hermione the best in the HP books, but I am just endlessly fascinated with Dumbledore’s backstory and I would love to see it explored.   You never know.  It could happen.   Thoughts?
