1899 is extremely spooky without being outright horror, which is my favorite type of fear-based media. like ohhh what's this? something eerie and offputting but not realistic or scary enough that I feel immediately threatened? I will eat that up. puts the same little shiver down my spine as being in haunted house. a fun experience!

I don't like the direction they're going with The Boy since I'm uneasy around media that dehumanizes children, especially children who are traumatized or creepy or don't act 'right'

I also wish the characters of color had more screentime. everyone has secrets and I'm curious about everyone's stories, but jerome and ling yi had like, 2 or three short scenes each compared to the longer and more complicated interactions between the white characters

you know I was a hooting and hollering when the gay shit started and we got those BACK SCARS revealed. you know I go crazy for some back scars. my two other favorite characters with back scars are also gay so 👍

i think its also just. the parallels with hosea + arthur... hosea worrying because he knows he doesnt have that much longer and he "just wants people safe before he goes". vs arthur in the latter third of the game wanting the very same thing. it eats at them both!!! they both love so so much and are stubborn as mules and refuse to let dutch destroy everyone alongside himself, even as they grapple with the fact that they love him too, and it hurts to see him act this way and have him accusing them of doubting him. of betrayal. because love to dutch is betrayal, and blind unquestioning loyalty is his new need.

theres just something to. arthur teasing him as his old man. as his father as his teacher. as the gentle hand that raised him and guides him. and he will lose hosea soon enough, to the life they live, not peacefully, and it Will further careen dutch off the deep end and arthur will feel so isolated. because he hasnt made up with john yet and people keep dying and the rest of the "family" is turning on him for Doubting.

Timeline

1877

Amelia was born in a middle class family in Surface Italy. She has an older sister and an older brother. Her sister is 10 years older, and her brother 12 years older. So she spent most of her childhood getting close to the maids instead, and they took care of her more than her own parents.

1893

Amelia began to have visions and premonitions that distressed her. This led to her having several stints in various asylums, which were traumatic for her.

1896

When she was 19, she was meant to be married to an older man who mostly wanted to send her back to an asylum and take her family’s money. So she decided to run away. She had a vision about traveling to the ‘underworld’ and became obsessed with the idea of escaping to there and being taken in by Persephone. She began to research the topic as much as she could, and eventually she found a book that said the entrance to the underworld was in Lake Avernus, which wasn’t far from where she lived. She ran away one night, hitching rides whenever she could and probably being robbed several times, but she made it to Lake Avernus and found the Cumaen Canal, and traveled down to the Neath.

In the Neath, she really had no clue what she was going to do. She didn’t know much about working a job, and was still convinced she was looking for Persephone. When she was attacked by a group of thugs, a correspondence wielding woman named Lucia stepped in and saved her and brought her to the Flit, which happened to be full of people who accepted her, many of whom had their own mental health challenges.

She was immediately interested in Parabola. If dreams were real somewhere, then her visions had to be too, but maybe they just weren’t as literal or as connected to the physical world as she thought. This helped her cope with the things she perceived a lot better.

1898

She was sent to represent the Topsy King in bailing Aster out of jail when he ended up there due to seeking, and Aster stayed with her for a while, and they became friends. She was pretty upset when he ran away again, and had wanted to find him. When he came back to London with May, she invited Aster to stay in the Flit again, and he did, so they began to become almost like siblings.

Biography: Born October 17th 1880 to James Howlett and Kaitlyn Grove, Olivia was the first born child of the couple. Olivia's early years were relatively normal as Logan and Victor fought in wars while Kaitlyn stayed home and raised the child. It was when she was 6 years old that Olivia revealed her mutations were similar - if not exactly the same - to Logan's; having bone claws, an extremely fast regenerative healing, superhuman agility, strength, stamina, and durability, animal-like senses, and worse of all - Logan's bad attitude.

In 1893, Laura was born and not soon afterwards the Howlett house was invaded by a band of outlaws who murdered Kaitlyn and attempted to kill Olivia and Laura as well, but Liv managed to kill two of them and wound the last one. After returning, Logan and Victor made the choice to run after realizing the danger the kids were in, giving Kaitlyn a proper burial before leaving to start a life of crime out of necessity. Unlike Victor, Logan didn't take any joy in the life they were leading, especially as he watched Olivia and Laura both grow up to be desensitized to the crimes they committed. Olivia developed Logan's penchant of only killing out of defense, this carrying into her adulthood as she only kills when she or Laura are threatened.

By 1899, the small family gets involved with the Van der Linde gang and traveling with them.

its also about how like. death sharpened arthurs sense of self. dutch takes credit for arthur because he raised him well. arthur was dutch's muscle. the gun in his holster. his protege etc. like. arthur really DIDNT start doubting or trying to really make any meaningful change because he really believed they were robin hood figures. he was a trusted founding member and made his own calls but he was still dutch's son then. but tuberculosis gave him clarity and agency and Urgency. he became his own man and that threatened dutch. yk. anyways. theres another layer to the tragedy here

Maria is a model with a criminal past. Threatening her or her partners is rarely a good idea. She’s also known to be friendly and helpful to younger creatives and criminals though. She also tends to be loud and outspoken when she’s comfortable, though she’s extremely good at pretending to be someone else when she needs to.

Despite being with a (somewhat covert) revolutionary and formerly with a devil, she also maintains a friendship with Mr Wines which helps her get people she cares about out of trouble on occasion. She generally supports the Liberation of Night as an idea, but like Isaac, doesn’t see it as being particularly likely to happen. And she’s vehemently against the Calendar Council. At revolutionary meetings, she’s often one to call out classist attitudes and encourage people to focus on the present instead of nebulous ideas.

1861

Maria Taylor was born to a poorer family in London.

1862-1874

London fell, bringing Maria and her family with it. So she mostly grew up in the Neath and considers it to be her only home. Also, her 3 younger siblings were born in 1863, 1870, and 1874 respectively.

1877

Maria’s parents had always struggled to pay their bills, so she wanted to find a way to pitch in. She encountered the Gracious Widow’s gang and decided to join, beginning to smuggle to bring money back to her family.

1878

Aster began working with the Widow around this time, and Maria and Aster found themselves working together a lot. She viewed him as another sibling, but he didn’t trust her.

1880

Maria also realized she wanted to model, and began doing so under different aliases with stolen clothing.

1887

After her explosive breakup with Isaac, over his decision to try to work with the constabulary to figure out what had happened to Arthur’s adoptive dad, she began to feel especially self conscious about what she was doing with her life. And she’d always felt like she couldn’t keep up enough with the other smugglers. But when she was modeling, she met Sinning Jenny, who offered to hire her at the Parlour of Virtue. She decided to take this offer, and went to tell Aster about it. He was pissed, and accused her of using being a criminal as a game, and now she’d be able to move on. She’d said some not so nice things to him in response, and they lost contact.

While working at the Parlour of Virtue, Maria began to get the favour of Mr Wines.

1891

Maria decided to work as a model full time, and Mr Wines helped her a lot with securing opportunities initially.

1895

Isaac and Maria both started to receive love letters from a devil, and discovered it was the same devil, Charles. This led to Isaac and Maria reconnecting, and eventually, all three of them began dating, but it was still an open relationship. They both ended up moving into Isaac’s townhouse.

Despite moving in with a revolutionary, and like Sinning Jenny, supporting the cause herself, she still managed to stay friendly with Mr Wines (to Isaac’s chagrin).
