More playing with science history. Here, I've hooked three voltaic cells in sequence; the liquid in the cells is salt water. I'm getting (as you can see) a little over 1.5 volts.

Can anyone explain why raw milk has become this sort of emblem of free-thinking anti-woke trad life? Just because it causes a lot of controversy? Because pasteurization is science and science is bad and woke? Appeal to nature - it’s natural so it’s more nutritious and tastes better? I think it’s a mix of all three. Confusing because I used to associate raw milk with granola hippie liberals but now I associate it with anti-woke christian tradwives. Being “crunchy” is not a liberal thing anymore. It’s quite interesting how this stuff evolves and changes.

Question...
Would you let a Victorian into your home? There is a follow up question if so.
Yeah, seeing them be in awe of modern appliances would amuse me.
….they’d possibly clutch their pearls if they saw my batim collection and some paintings I have in my room tho-
If it were me being let into a Victorian persons home? Mmmmmmmnope, curiosity would absolutely push me in there but I wouldn’t stick around for too long. While I love Victorian era interior design and such I’d prefer not to be exposed to lead, mercury, and arsenic.

tech companies are really going out of their way to find the most environmentally damaging way to do literally anything but WE have to be the ones to "make a difference" with shit that doesnt even make a fucking dent
not to fuckin mention goverments spending billions on fossil fuels and maintaining nuclear weapon stockpiles whilst were guilted into using shitty paper straws and electric cars
Y'all I know that when so-called AI generates ridiculous results it's hilarious and I find it as funny as the next guy but I NEED y'all to remember that every single time an AI answer is generated it uses 5x as much energy as a conventional websearch and burns through 10 ml of water. FOR EVERY ANSWER. Each big llm is equal to 300,000 kiligrams of carbon dioxide emissions.
LLMs are killing the environment, and when we generate answers for the lolz we're still contributing to it.
Stop using it. Stop using it for a.n.y.t.h.i.n.g. We need to kill it.

First time the power went out when I was a kid, I cried and cried because the “house was dead”. I was too little to really articulate what I meant. My parents thought I was talking about the lights or tv not working. I was talking about the silence.
I read an article the other day that was like “You’re actually not fully conscious of things most of the time. If you were the sensory input would overload you” and I was just like asjhfdksajks
Yeah that’s literally what being autistic is like. Allistic people’s brains filter out a lot of the sensory “noise” (from all senses) around them but autistic people’s brains don’t or at least don’t do it as well.
Which is why we can hear shit like hums from all electronics and we are aware of this all the time.

Sygna parade!
Tumblr media
Alt version!
Tumblr media
Ok first, I need to scream:
I LOVE THE SYGNA SUITS
THE FRILLS!! THE FASHION!! THE NOD TO OLD FASHIONED TRAIN CONDUCTOR SUITS FROM 1800’S!!THE ELECTRIC LANTERNS ARE SO CLEVER!!
POKEMAS EMBRACED THE YELLOW AND PURPLE WE LOVE TO ASSOCIATE THEM WITH AND IT MAKES ME SO HAPPY!!
THE BOOTS! THE FLOWER SLEEVES! THE BLACK COLLAR SHIRT ON EMMET! THE STRIPED TIGHTS!
*ahem*
The designs fast drew my mind into marching bands so I went for this idea first ahah! At some point I watched a ton of marching band videos, they cheered me up with the exciting and very complex perfomances and the players enthusiam was so catchy!! Also watching the 1st person POVs of i.e. the trumpet and drum players are super fun ahaha! Combined with the striking costumes all this directly reminded me of submas, and now it’s a thing!!!

Singapore's first railway line
Nineteenth century Singapore had its fair share of interesting personalities. One was a certain Mr Charles Burton Buckley, who had what might be thought as Singapore’s very first mile of railway built at Bukit Timah. Buckley in Singapore’s first motorcar Buckley first arrived in Singapore as a young man of twenty in 1864 and was a well established lawyer by the time he had the line in 1892.…

this isn't exactly anti electricity, it's protesting the electrical grid system in america at the time it was drawn. at the time there were tons of competing energy companies that all used different wires and plugs, all carrying different amps and volts around the city.
Tumblr media
this was a nightmare for a bunch of reasons. When there was a downed line you didn't know who to contact to fix it because you wouldn't know who owned that line. you also didn't know what kind of shock it could deliver, the high voltage deadly kind or the high current semi-ok kind. this also made them harder to repair because work men didn't know how dangerous one or the other wire could be. different companies used different safety features and coating on their wires. you can also imagine that the streets could have standing water and a downed line falling into a large enough puddle could kill anyone walking in it. they didn't have rubber soled boots at the time so that was a shock straight to the heart. police didn't know who to arrest for which wires either. hell, the electric companies all made exclusive appliances that only worked with their plugs and voltage.
Tumblr media
people talked about them blocking out the sun. also there weren't like power strips. a lot of plugs hooked up to the light bulb socket in the middle of the room and ran like 5 different machines off of it causing electrical fires. it's why electricity is a utility, aka nationalized industry, tightly regulated by the government. That's why when there is a forest fire or black out caused by poor maintenance it's time to make it an issue of voting.
