Saw a very cute Azura redesign on Twitter and it made me start missing when I cosplayed her 8 years ago... for all the effort that I put into making Azura's outfit, it's a shame I only wore it once 🥹

I cannot tell you, as a long time cosplayer, how much joy it will bring you to go back and make the costume you really wanted to make as a beginner but didn’t have the skill yet. Who cares if the source material is 5 (or 15 or 25) years old? There’s nothing like treating your younger self to a piece of delight and victory. You’ll feel amazing when you look in the mirror. Try it out next year. I guarantee you’ll have a good time.

Don’t have any of those? Go back and find your jankiest early costume where you still love the character but at the time you had no idea what you’re doing. Redo it with all the skill you have now.

It’s the best feeling in the entire cosplay hobby.

I'm still thinking about the straw hat crew being canonically teenagers because acquiring that knowledge fucked me up beyond repair. before Robin and then Franky joined the crew they were literally all like 17 to 19 and that should not be allowed methinks

Oh hey, guess who’s remaking their Aerith cosplay for Otakon this year! I still have some bits to finish, but I’m super excited to cosplay my favorite Final Fantasy character again. It’s also nice feeling like I have the skill now to do what I originally wanted to with this cosplay. 😭

Today is just gonna be a lot of sanding, which is my least favorite part of prop making...maybe cosplay in general tbh :T

HOWEVER!!! I do find it very cool and magical that @arahith just 3D modeled all these and printed them out, because the future is incredible and I love to see how cosplay has grown :D IT'S SO NEAT!!!!!!!!!!

Related: my wife is currently sewing on the machine I got my freshman year of college, which was originally purchased with one of my close friends so that we could make our Kingdom Hearts cosplays in my dorm room ;D It's now my secondary machine, because it was the cheapest of the cheap at the time, but it's still trucking along reliably enough to use during con crunch ✌

Last day of Anime Los Angeles was truly “I want to be comfy and silly and not wear a wig” and who better to enable that but STEEEEEVE.

Thrifted:

$5 for the yellow “Dog Mama” t-shirt (”Dog Mama” got appliquéd over with red vinyl, which was apparently the only suitable red fabric I had on hand for colour-matching the STEVE logo)

$10 for the black pleather jacket (added cuffs, elbow pads, painted pocket details, and reused the STEVE stencil I made ...for painting another STEVE on the back)

Made (in the span of a very focused week and entirely from stash fabric, s o m e h o w): 

Appliqué for the yellow shirt, with cutouts in the red vinyl to have inset white STEVE letters.

White hood dickie. 

Edits to the black pleather jacket.

Black velvet jester pants with grey sateen insets + the peeking-out tunic. 

Horn prosthetic. 

Synergy in the Emperor’s Coven — grabbed a soupy romance novel from the Little Free Library (that I have previously made deposits to) and gave it a ~ new life ~

Going to a cosplay event at the mall today and my only options are cosplay that doesn't fit me properly or cosplay that isn't done and I'm kinda sad about it

Patterning out Lucifer's tail coat

Finish all of the patterning besides the shoulder seams because I'm waiting for shoulder pads to come in the mail and trust nothing

Start working on his lil devil tail because I have all the materials for that

REALIZE I DID ALL THE MEASUREMENTS WITHOUT MY CORSET ON AND NEED TO REDO THEM TO ACCOUNT FOR THAT STUPID TWINK ASS GRABABLE WAIST
