Like hello, look at this, I found it last week at walmart for 25 dollars, I just looked down and it was there, waiting for me, I’m-

Okay so quick story here: when I was 13 Battlestar was available on netflix and my mom- who had been a fan of it since it came out in 1978- asked if I wanted to watch it and I was like sure, why not. I’d already seen Star Wars at this point but this was the first sci fi show that I truly connected with and loved. I was obsessed with this show for years. And the funniest thing is that my mom originally watched it when she was 13, the same age I was when she showed it to me! And she also loved it and was obsessed with it then! I just think that’s really neat.

Also I haven’t watched it since I was a teenager and I am so HYPED. I remember bits and pieces of episodes and plotlines and I’m so excited to get to experience them again.

@cosmicallyavg okay sorry if you didnt want me to respond but the autism won today and i thought abt nothing but this for like 3 hours so

i think the doctor knows yaz has done/will do the same morally questionable things as her if it becomes necessary? because for her to be self aware about herself, and then also aware of yaz becoming her in a way. she has to assume that its a possibility. and asking her to hold the master at gunpoint is her testing that theory i think. because yaz very well could have straight up not done it but in the end, shes her equal, she admires her (and wants to impress her lets be real), and she has a duty of care. she knows/assumes how dangerous the master is and doesnt want anything to happen to Her doctor if she can help it. theres no use being squeamish weve got the doctor to save.

i hadnt thought of that angle but the doctor consciously sort of testing how much yaz will indeed do exactly as she herself would, and guessing right on that front is so interesting. i was reading 13s comics yesterday and she did it multiple times there too, like delegating to yaz for llittle minidoctor tasks like occupying herself with a victim like she does in witchfinders with willa too, and like just literally going "yaz, go play police at those aliens" (i said "be police" first but 1 no jurisdiction, and 2 for the doctor 'be' and 'play' are the same thing)

and when she gets yaz that gun, it's so interesting bc to me at least it feels like simultaneously theres the power dynamic of doctor-companion where yaz is definitely a step lower like shes not in charge here (compared to later with vinder) but what the doctor uses that power she has to do is to like place some of it in yaz if that makes sense? she's using yaz as a proxy of herself, which sounds bad but i think thats what shes doing?

like guns for the doctor are this visual sign that theyre going against their own principles right? it's not really the violence of guns that the doctor protests bc theyre plenty violent, but it's a visual representation of their principles right? we see this with 10 when he wont take wilfs gun against the master but when he hears timelords are coming he does. 13 being willing to use a gun on the master means shes willing to break her own rules to deal with him (which the doctor always kinda is with them thats part of the problem but i dont think it's in the "i forgive you one more time even though i shouldnt way" this time)

but also! she doesnt touch the gun herself. she orders a soldier thats at her command (actively breaking her own rules) to give it to yaz. ace talks abt this i believe in at childhoods end, to yaz. that like, the doctor is not opposed to violence but they will keep their own hands clean if they can. as opposed to 10 who picked up the gun himself, 13 lets yaz do it. and then later, bc of course the doctor cant shoot people, yaz lets vinder be the one to actually shoot the master. 

so 13 is outsourcing her principle breaking wrt the master to yaz, but i think shes aware of it. it's not like letting yaz handle the gun is eschewing her own responsibility, i think she doubles her feeling of responsibility, bc not only is she breaking her own rules, shes making yaz break them too (clara voice: and now youve made me lie! youve made me your accomplice!) which is why it feels so simultaneously like equal and unequal, yaz is both doctor and companion in potd.

(short detour abt what you said abt "theres no use being squeamish weve got the doctor to save" like yeah thats exactly it. i wrote a fic where yaz shoots the master and the doctor is like Why The Fuck Did You Do That bc while she expected yaz to take the gun (bc she would), she didnt expect her to shoot (bc she wouldnt), but that then maybe reveals a sort of distorted image she has of both herself and yaz. bc yaz did shoot, which means the doctor would shoot even if shes so dedicated to the image of herself as The Doctor that she might not realise that she would. and it reveals an underestimation of yazs feelings for her, and her sense of duty, and how far she will go, has gone, to try and save the doctor. the master is a threat, so she shoots (im thinking again of clara and 8x12 where 12 literally offers to shoot missy to protect clara('s immortal soul))

and abt that equality, like, there was this photoset i saw last week of bts stuff from s11 i think? chibnall talking abt the first meeting in the train. which was basically just like that post i made ythat you linked except chibnall was talking abt it from 13s perspective, which i hadnt considered dkdjdjdh

i saw your tags when you reblogged that post and i thought abt them for a bit but didnt respond bc i dont think i entirely agree? theres a definite, like, respect and i think recognition on the doctors side of things when they first meet and she does the thing i wrote abt in that post where she like listens to yaz and then presents her own plan and this first listening to yaz probably fixed a problem they might have had if she had just forcefully tried to push yaz out of the authority position she was in there as a police among civilians, where yaz might have fought for the leadership position the entire rest of the night and maybe rest of their time together (not that thats not also a fun version of events to think about) 

anyway to get back to the point, yes theres that respect, and the doctor uses yaz for her skills since the beginnig, but i dont really agree that it's equal necessarily. the power difference is too big and too easily leveraged by 13 for me to call it equal

when it comes to doctor-companion power dynamics the first thing i always think about is the tardis, because it's this really concrete and undeniable representation of that power right? you need this ship and you need this pilot or you are most likely never going home again. thats just like a fact at the foundation of most doctor-companion relationships (excluding companions who have their own means of transport or could fly the tardis maybe like river or romana). im not saying thats on purpose or the doctor likes it, im just saying when youre stranded on an alien planet and theres one person who is capable of making sure you dont die, doug eiffel voice: really really far away from home, then youre not gonna do anything that person doesnt want you to do. or at least youre gonna be hesitant to

so following the big bluish money (tardis), i think the real equality between them finally only really arrives

here. in their last scene together. where the doctor can say "you know what this means right?" bc yaz already does despite still not being told anything, and yaz can say "lets not say goodbye" bc the doctor is not good at goodbyes and the doctor is both of them

thats what really appeals to me abt writing them post-potd everybody lives happily ever after au, this partnership that we only ever got to see glimpses of. in a version of events where 13 lived after this, we could see what that partnership really would have looked like

LUNELLA LOREDUMP — MULTICANON MIX!

> INHUMANITY

Inhumans are a subsection of humanity with latent DNA alternations originating from the Kree's experiments on early man. An intensive project originally intended to create new soldiers for the alien empire's intergalactic war, the initiative was scrapped once cryptic warnings foretold their creations to be their undoing. Fleeing earth, the test subjects were left to perish on the planet by their creators.

Today the project is nothing more than a rumor, the Kree attempting to erase all mention of the project and the descendants of augmented humanity being generally clueless with the abilities that come with their engineered DNA remaining latent more often than not.

Lunella Louise Lafayette discovered she was one of the unlucky few to have their latent inhuman genes triggered at the age of 9, quickly developing the ability to swap minds much to her protest. The supergenius would dedicate much of her time attempting to suppress and/or outright eliminate her abnormalities to little success.

> MEET THE LAFAYETTES

The Lafayette family live in an apartment complex located on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, New York City. For the first ten years of her life, it was just Lunella and her parents— James Lafayette Jr and Ardia Lafayette, with the occasional visits from her paternal grandparents. Things weren't always easy in that house, there was a palpable rift between the three as her parents struggled with a daughter going through more than they could possibly know.

When tensions hit a boiling point, and the cost of living rose, Lunella's paternal grandparents would move in. Miriam Lafayette and James Lafayette Sr always had a close connection with the girl, and with their support along with the rest of the family getting involved with James Sr's roller rink, the five were able to grow closer than ever.

Although Lunella would continue to keep the discoveries of her inhuman characteristics to herself, she would grow more open with her interests in science and engineering— quickly taking to using her staggering intellect to help around not only the house but the rink as well.

> MOON GIRL LANDING

One of Lunella's biggest personal heroes is a woman only known by the moniker Moon Girl. A mysterious scientist employed by the space program, she would vanish without a trace leaving behind many incomplete blueprints. Lunella would pour over the scraps of her recovered work, determined to piece together the last big project she'd undertaken before her disappearance. Within her secret lab beneath the apartment, Lunella would put together a machine who's functions she was unsure of, quickly learning it to be a portal generator upon completion. A large, red, mutant dinosaur would come through the portal she created and immediately cause a scene rampaging through the city.

Feeling responsible for stranding the creature here, and feeling it was much more intelligent than the heroes who'd captured it gave it credit for, she would break the dinosaur out of containment as a masked vigilante.

> KID KREE

Although the Inhumans have become an afterthought to most Kree, there are a few in positions of power who feel the empire has right to take the species to trial for their foretold betrayal. Amongst these individuals lies Mel-Varr, son of a Kree military general. Infiltrating Lunella's elementary school under the guise Marvin Ellis, he sought to capture and bring her home as a war trophy in order to earn the approval of his father. His plan would not play out as expected, the kree boy growing quite fond of Lunella after the two get past the rather rocky slew of initial interactions.

The two would part ways shortly before her 10th birthday, Lunella keeping rather spotty contact with the boy outside of dire emergency.

> MG & DD: ORIGINS

Now harboring a dinosaur in her lab, Lunella would grow a rather immediate fondness for the creature. Having used her inhuman abilities to get a look at where he'd been contained through his eyes, the newly established link between the two would allow for not only the exchange of language but the discussion of a name. Devil quickly grew to become practically family over the many months he learned to live in Lunella's lab, being the first she would open up to about her fears of what being inhuman meant. The two would fall into a rhythm of walking the Lower East Side at night, allowing Devil fresh air without the immediate threat of recapture as Lunella would don the same disguise she'd used to free him in order to not give away who's hiding him.

It isn't until the pair stop a robbery in progress by compete accident, Devil more upset about the coldcuts the robbers had sullied in their botched escape than the fact a robbery was happening at all, that they're mistaken for heroes and their names are requested.

Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur have a rather tame debut, protecting local businesses and assisting the community for months. By the time Lunella hits her 11th birthday, the pair are known amongst local businesses.

> AFTERSHOCK

The superhero duo wouldn't break out into the public consciousness until Lunella's 13th birthday had come and gone, their typical community efforts being placed front and center by Casey Calderon— a schoolmate who's life the duo had saved in the pursuit of the block's first very own supervillain. The constant blackouts put not only the community as a whole, but Lunella's family in jeopardy with the amount of business struggling to stay afloat with inconsistent power.

With the defeat of Aftershock and a much needed outfit rebrand, Casey's assistance helped elevate the duo to the staple heroes of the L.E.S they've become known to be.

ok i just wanted to be able to talk about how the process was with this and how i feel about the results and whatnot...

ive been wanting to make a google slides visual novel since i was like 13 LOL it hit the point where i was repeatedly told i should just learn to code but i was like NOOOOO ITS GOTTA BE GOOGLE SLIDESSSS which is totally stupid but hey. i think that gives it some sort of simple charm that reminds me of being 16 and doing little projects in my room LOL i like working with the easiest tools . my bad

anyway. im just very happy LOL. it's not perfect but i feel like i came full circle in a sense?!?! i've been into creepypasta since i was 9 and it comforted me when things were really hard, and when i was 18 i was going through a really hard time and got back into creepypasta as a way to distract myself. i've always had a habit of throwing myself into fiction for escapism when things suuucked.

i'm 20 now but i've met SO many amazing people, had so many fun awesome exciting projects with friends, created tons of stuff im proud of, felt more motivated to create since i was like 13, have been inspired by so many amazing artists/authors on here, etc. just so so so lucky to find community in such a tight-knit cute fandom that thrives off of creativity and playing around! i hope i can keep the momentum and make a couple more chapters this year, but im kinda busy with school and work...LOL . i'm just excited to have this posted so i can have more discussion about it T_T

A couple of responses to things that have come up in the tags/replies:

I had to look this up, because it seemed improbable that this was not a Bleach-specific response we edited, but the response "COMMITMENT TO EXCELLENCE" as the thing you most look for in a date is actually, somehow, *an original part of the actual Computer Fun quiz.* Absolutely amazing.

The "timeline" of the quiz is the Fullbring/pre-TYBW era; the errant data from "an earlier version of the quiz" is the SC staff remembering to add Rose/Kensei/Shini/Mashiro, but forgetting to take out Aizen/Tousen/Ichimaru. (The wording is from the SC edition in the SC where the staff refers to Aizen, Ichimaru, and Tousen as "mysteriously vanished" LMAOOOO. Anyway, timeline-wise, that's why no Urahara/Yoruichi in this Gotei quiz.

I personally think that looking at the results is more interesting in zones (so like, your Top 5 vs. your Top 1; or "over 50% vs. under 50%), which is partly why we wanted a platform that would show ALL percentages rather than just the top one. Unless you matched some wild percentage with your top one and much, much lower with all the others, in which case you can't fight the iron strictures of the OTP.

Rosenhedge St. 48 is inspired by one of the houses I always see on my way home from work and I love how it looks once autumn arrives and the foliage turns yellow, orange and red. While this isn't a scary or creepy build, it's perfect for spending autumn in the coziest and comfiest fashion.

Athletes Go for the Gold with NASA Spinoffs

NASA technology tends to find its way into the sporting world more often than you’d expect. Fitness is important to the space program because astronauts must undergo the extreme g-forces of getting into space and endure the long-term effects of weightlessness on the human body. The agency’s engineering expertise also means that items like shoes and swimsuits can be improved with NASA know-how.

As the 2024 Olympics are in full swing in Paris, here are some of the many NASA-derived technologies that have helped competitive athletes train for the games and made sure they’re properly equipped to win.

The LZR Racer reduces skin friction drag by covering more skin than traditional swimsuits. Multiple pieces of the water-resistant and extremely lightweight LZR Pulse fabric connect at ultrasonically welded seams and incorporate extremely low-profile zippers to keep viscous drag to a minimum.

Swimsuits That Don’t Drag

When the swimsuit manufacturer Speedo wanted its LZR Racer suit to have as little drag as possible, the company turned to the experts at Langley Research Center to test its materials and design. The end result was that the new suit reduced drag by 24 percent compared to the prior generation of Speedo racing suit and broke 13 world records in 2008. While the original LZR Racer is no longer used in competition due to the advantage it gave wearers, its legacy lives on in derivatives still produced to this day.

Trilion Quality Systems worked with NASA’s Glenn Research Center to adapt existing stereo photogrammetry software to work with high-speed cameras. Now the company sells the package widely, and it is used to analyze stress and strain in everything from knee implants to running shoes and more.

High-Speed Cameras for High-Speed Shoes

After space shuttle Columbia, investigators needed to see how materials reacted during recreation tests with high-speed cameras, which involved working with industry to create a system that could analyze footage filmed at 30,000 frames per second. Engineers at Adidas used this system to analyze the behavior of Olympic marathoners' feet as they hit the ground and adjusted the design of the company’s high-performance footwear based on these observations.

Martial artist Barry French holds an Impax Body Shield while former European middle-weight kickboxing champion Daryl Tyler delivers an explosive jump side kick; the force of the impact is registered precisely and shown on the display panel of the electronic box French is wearing on his belt.

One-Thousandth-of-an-Inch Punch

In the 1980s, Olympic martial artists needed a way to measure the impact of their strikes to improve training for competition. Impulse Technology reached out to Glenn Research Center to create the Impax sensor, an ultra-thin film sensor which creates a small amount of voltage when struck. The more force applied, the more voltage it generates, enabling a computerized display to show how powerful a punch or kick was.

Astronaut Sunita Williams poses while using the Interim Resistive Exercise Device on the ISS. The cylinders at the base of each side house the SpiraFlex FlexPacks that inventor Paul Francis honed under NASA contracts. They would go on to power the Bowflex Revolution and other commercial exercise equipment.

Weight Training Without the Weight

Astronauts spending long periods of time in space needed a way to maintain muscle mass without the effect of gravity, but lifting free weights doesn’t work when you’re practically weightless. An exercise machine that uses elastic resistance to provide the same benefits as weightlifting went to the space station in the year 2000. That resistance technology was commercialized into the Bowflex Revolution home exercise equipment shortly afterwards.
