Your interest deepens soon after, when Lily’s abusive father fires Chico for breaking some dishes. “If Chico goes, I go,” Stanwyck snarls. (...) Because while Stanwyck is unquestionably the star, Harris has real screen time: she’s attractively lighted, and stands and sits side by side with Stanwyck like the intimates they convincingly play. The relationship shifts after Lily sleeps to the top and Chico starts wearing a maid’s uniform (if sometimes a white fur muff and stole). For the 4th day I drew Maida Springer Kemp-She was born on May 12th in 1910.In Rio Sidro,Panama,her mother was Adina Steward Carrington.At the age of 7,She and her mother moved to Harlem,New York.Her mother listented to the messages of Marcus Garvey and she would pass down the lessons she had learned to her daughter,teaching her to value education and to be hopeful.Maida joined the labour movement during the Great Depression when she became a member of the Dressmakers' Union,Local 22 of the International Ladies' Garment Workers Union and her interest in unions would grow after hearing a radio address by Asa Philip Randolph in 1929.Asa's speech helped her realize that there were larger forces that hindered working people.And In 1933.Local 22 launched a successful general strike of dressmakers.Afterwards Maida quickly moved up the union's ranks.In 1938.She began serving on the executive board and in 1940.She became the chair of the local's education committee,she was known as 'the pride of ILGWU' and Asa became her mentor and helped raise her profile by choosing her as one of the first African Americans to march in New York's grand union parade.In 1945.Maida became the first black woman to represent U.S. labor overseas when the AFL and CIO sent her as part of a group observing wartime conditions in Great Britain.Her time in England would be only the beginning of her international efforts to promote union organizing.She helped found the first women's labor movement in Turkey before becoming a key figure in establishing relationships between leaders in the emerging African and U.S. labor movements.She advised newly-formed unions in Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda, Ghana and other African nations and would help run a scholarship program for union members.She would officially join the AFL-CIO's International Affairs Department in 1959.A position which she held until 1965.From 1970. To 1973.She served as the Midwest Director of the A. Philip Randolph Institute,where she would work on voter registration and education.She also worked for the African American Labor Center and coordinated relief programs after drought struck in Africa.She later became a consultant with the Asian American Free Labor Institute and worked as a consultant and lecturer promoting women's labor rights and unionism in Africa.And so she continued to promote equality for working women and supported the labor movement long after her retirement in 1981.

She died on March 29th in 2005.In Pittsburg,Pennsylvania at the age of 94

Meet Joe Black is a 1998 film directed by Martin Brest, a remake of the 1933 film Death Takes a Holiday, previously revived in 1971 with the same name as the original. The film is inspired by the theatrical comedy of the same name by Alberto Casella, which tells of the legends about his summer villa - Villa Josephine, nicknamed the "cursed villa" - in Rocchetta Cairo.

Death came to Earth because he was intrigued by the emotions regarding love praised by Bill, which he will take with him at the end of the journey.

Meanwhile, Bill is ousted from the board of directors of his company by Drew, Susan's ex-boyfriend, who wants to merge with another company.

Filming of the film took place mainly in New York, USA.

The film's soundtrack, whose main theme is Whisper of a Thrill, was composed by Thomas Newman.

The film was released in US cinemas on November 13, 1998 and in Italy on January 29, 1999.

In addition to the full version of the film lasting approximately three hours, a short version was made for television and airline. Because of this modification of the film, which did not involve the majority of Bill Parrish's business, the director, Martin Brest, became very furious, so much so that he signed this version of the feature film with the nickname often used by disgruntled directors, Alan Smithee.

Roger Ebert gave the film three stars, but disliked the marginal plot and overly forced ending. Peter Travers of Rolling Stone gave the film four stars, but criticized the lack of depth of most of the characters.

On the site Rotten Tomatoes the film obtained a 46% approval rating from critics based on 50 professional reviews, calling it "glacially slow and not at all eventful" (the site's critical consensus reads: "Meet Joe Black is beautiful to watch and benefits from a likable cast, but that's not enough to make up for the punishing three-hour running time of this sluggish drama."

After reading the first few chapters of @shadowhuntermama’s Whispers From The Afterlife, I started having ideas for dark and angsty stories in the same vein. This one I thought would actually be little and a one-shot. I was…close? 😂

Finally! I found the house Lewis Nixon grew up in Santa Barbara

His mother took the family to move to Santa Barbara in 1929, and bought a house in 1930. They lived in this house until at least 1946.  So Lewis Nixon lived here from 12 yr old to adulthood.

In the social notes, it’s frequently mentioned that their address was “180 Cold Spring Rd. Santa Barbara, CA”. However, if you search in google map, there’s no 180 Cold Spring Rd anymore, the house numbers all changed.

But I noticed that mama Nix bought this property from Mr. and Mrs Geoffrey Courtney. A little futher research showed that the full name of the seller were “Geoffrey Stuart Courtney” and “Marguerite Ravenscroft”.

The second floor contained four bedrooms, dressing rooms, three baths, and sleeping porches. A third story on the west wing contained bedrooms and baths for the maids. As far as landscaping, the orange grove was central, but the house would be embellished with a terrace across the front and a large pergola on the east. There was also a stable, male servants’ quarters, and, of course, a garage.”
