#something more #jackie kalilieh #aroaessidhe 2023 reads #this is pretty good!#obv it’s not my kind of book but having an autistic MC made it a lot less frustrating than a similar book with an allistic MC would be imo #I thought it was a great representation of a low support needs autistic teen girl #and like. embracing her autism but also it's not the only thing the book is about #Was a bit exhausting the way she keeps going back to this guy even though he’s kinda shitty #though I guess it felt quite transparent that the narrative is partly about recognising unhealthy relationships & what mistakes you should #forgive and what are ongoing patterns. and most of the relationships are like different examples of that #so like that gave me a bit of a step back from all the drama and stuff that would have otherwise annoyed me too much #because it was obvious that that was the point of all that #I think it would have been good to have developed her relationship with her grandmother - 3/4 through something happens #and it has pretty much no emotional punch because I was like wait. she has a grandmother?#Maybe that would have made it too sad when it’s mostly a lighthearted romance but like. you could have made the thing more of just a scare

Of all the things being an altar server helped me with, I'd never imagine it would put me on the path to writing a homoerotic bishop/demon short story LOL.

#how did we all end up here #tbh #i have so many thoughts/memories abt altar serving and nawt all great - i hated most of the people who went to my church #but it made my grandmother happy so highkey that is the only thing that mattered <3 #but like i mean it helps me remember the order of mass #it was interesting being there when the priests and deacons dressed up #and actually talking to them and having conversations #like casual shit while we were all putting on our albs/vestments #i remember going to my priest and asking him to 'get us the albs with hoods >:/ like they have at xyz church'#he said #'we don't have the money!!! XD'#tbh it was also the functionality too #because they cost a lot but also would we WEAR the hoods #anyway #will some of my old convos with my parish priests make it into my short stories #mayhaps

#just opened a copy of decline and fall by evelyn waugh that i got at a secondhand place over christmas #and inside is a note in black ink that says #''merry reading mom -shaun '92''#like i hope she enjoyed it #i hope it's what she wanted for christmas #i wonder if shauns still around #i wonder if his mom is #best writing i ever found in a book was in the back of one #where some kid wrote his name 3 times in different coloured metallic sharpie #like you just know that kid had to read the book for school and opened a fresh pack of sharpies #and wanted to see what they looked like and didn't give a shit about the book lol #wish i could remember which book it was #i have books from my great grandmother's collection #she had a stamp with her name that she put in every one #i wonder if someone will pick these books up at a secondhand store after i'm gone #and wonder who harley was #ooh i forgot i also have that copy of dr jekyll my dad stole from his high school library #that has his name written in it in pencil along with the names of like 3 other students with the year written next to each one #and on the opposite page the name of the high school that gave it to his high school #it's my favourite kind of history sorry i'm getting really into this

my nancy may be a boy mom but she is Not a Boy Mom™, iykwim.

but theres a very harsh, stark contrast with my portrayal of her on how she raises / treats any son / son-in-law ( ie. johnny ofc or others ) vs how she would treat / raise any daughter / daughter-in-law ( ie. maria in mirrors image au ), or other in-law through her kid. yes the affection and maternal love ( staring at the Boy Mom™ types of mothers & indirectly emphasizing a very specific Brand of them in particular that i Do Not Entertain that some pockets of the fandom like to place onto nancy generally - again, iykwim ) more often than not will come far easier to her towards any son that she may have. theres an inherent bias / thought process in her that sees having a son as more beneficial and far easier to shape and mold into the type of killer shes conjured up in her mind for their respective futures. daughters ( in-law ), on the other hand, like maria in her au of being taken & raised by nancy, have to constantly fight to win over her approval across the board in ways that a son - particularly johnny - never quite had to.

maria, especially, but really any sort of softer-hearted daughter would have an incredibly harder time really connecting to or bonding with nancy. best way to slide an example over off the top of the head on this is cautiously gesturing over to The Bear series / Donna type dynamic but in the way those manifest being purely manufactured by nancy - intricate and purposeful in order to crumble them down and manipulate them to do as she wants rather than the types of methods she'd use for sons / on johnny ( ie. her way of shutting down on lamb's johnny to get him to listen etc ).

#[ ♡ ] ── * nancy s. / 𝘭𝘰𝘳𝘦.#im lowkey preparing to yap about the varying shades of Motherhood across the roster but this in particular is screeching.#a son would be doted on bc of the potential there for him to be Great at what she ideally wants them to be - ruthless. violent. brutal.#daughters absolutely CAN be too but in cases like maria where theres a gentleness to them by the time they end up getting taken by her?#theres just. that complete Dismantling of that that needs to happen & it in turn makes nancy absolutely Horrendous towards them.#unfortunately nancy w/ any daughters/daughter-in-laws is loosely inspired off how my maternal grandmother was like & its just. Awful.#like if that sort of dynamic & behavior is upsetting then that series can be ROUGH to watch w/ donna's character (only seen clips but man-)#& bc it technically falls under it:#abuse mention cw #abuse cw #( will tag w/ others if needed <3 )
