Ok so we get this
and this
And I proceed to spiral about colour theory and costume theory and end up writing and expansion to this post I made about Buck in yellow ochre!!! Sorry y'all, you know what that means - my unhinged colour theory and costume meta's are Back!!!
Lets start by revisiting all of Bucks previous yellow ochre wearing shenanigans!
3x06 the yellow ochre sweater he wears when he gets sent home by Bobby - this does after we see Buck and Eddie making up with each other - a moment when we see Buck learning more about himself and growing (read becoming less self-centred and understanding the concept of being part of a team and recognising that he needs to be better about stepping in with Eddie!)
4x02 - Yellow ochre jumper - first in a video chat with Maddie, Chim and Albert, but then more importantly, when he is in his therapy session with dr Copeland - the whole ‘I hide my true feelings from others’ moment - yet another moment of Buck recognising something about himself. I think this is the most key scene in Bucks yellow ochre wearing - more on that in a bit.
4x03 Bucks yellow ochre t-shirt - a t-shirt that matches the shade of the jumper from above, and a moment when Buck confesses to Maddie that he’s in therapy - about being sad and lonely and wanting to be ‘finer’
4x04 - the yellow knit sweater from 3x06 is back (yes it is the same sweater) and this is when Buck has his entire life upended and he finds out about Daniel (kicking us into Buck begins)
4x11 - Buck talks to Maddie and Josh about Sue’s hit and run, then talks to Taylor about Sue. This one is a much brighter yellow than the ochres we’ve seen up to now, but I’m including it because I think its relevant to Bucks arc here (also because it connects into the next time we see Buck wearing yellow - the will scene) the concept of being hit with information that leads to Bucks growth and the nature of most hit and runs not being solved, the perpetrator never being caught and therefore not getting closure on something (this is super relevant I promise!)
Then we have 4x14 and two yellow ochre tops - the first is the sweater, this one is trending more towards orange brown, but its still in the ochre wheelhouse! this oe is all about communication - mostly at Buck - Taylor telling him how stupid he was for climbing the crane, receiving a phonemail from Ana to tell him Eddie is awake, facilitating communication between Eddie and Chris and then Buck communication himself - thinking it would’ve been better if he had been shot. Directly communicating to the audience (as much as Eddie) the inner monologue of Bucks own opinion of the point of his existence.
Then we get the beloved will scene and Buck wearing a yellow ochre shirt, still lighter than the other yellow ochre we’d seen up to this point, with the exception of the previous one which is brighter still. again this is mostly about people communicating at Buck rather than him being the communicator - much like with the previous Jumper. It somewhat plays into the concept of Buck being a passive part of his life rather than actively living it - Kinda hard to explain at this point without the context of the costumes from s5&6. I also want to point out Taylor is in that dark green again here - in the scene when Buck opens the door to the Diaz house.
5x03 gives us Buck in that same shade of yellow ochre (bear in mind we haven’t seen him in any other colour between the will reveal and this scene (beyond uniform!) and here we have Buck pushing Eddie and communicating without actually giving much of himself away - yes he uses himself as an example, but he doesn’t actually open up about himself all that much (this is important - its not the time for that and it provides space for Buck to continue his internal monologue about his self worth) after this he goes home to his loft and we get him communication to a Taylor who isn’t actually present in the space - a symbolic scene that shows that he gets just as much from her absence as her presence (a play on the idea that Buck can communicate better with her when she isn’t actually present compared with when she is - its a juxtaposition of the scene from earlier when they were in bed together and she didn’t listen to anything he was saying, or his wants/needs)
5x04 a scene at the Buckley-Han apartment where Buck isn’t communicating with Chim - Chim is very much communication with Buck about his despair over Maddie leaving - Buck obviously knows where Maddie is at this point, but he diocesan’t take the opportunity to communicate effectively with Chim. so This is yet another example of Buck failing to communicate, while some one around him is clearly communicating and this scene has the addition of secrecy thrown into the mix.
Then we have 5x14 - this one is a bit less obvious - its the yellow ochre and black plaid jacket - its an outlier in that its not solid yellow ochre, but it is again a scene where we get communication - this time BUck is actually the one to do some communicating, but like pretty much always, we don’t get him pushing too much and we see him continuing to deflect from making things about himself - he’s desperate to talk about the shooting and its impact on him, but Eddie resists and Buck backs off. the check here is a nice addition because it shows the concept of cross purposes, but also there is less yellow than in other outfits - the black seems to be ‘devouring’ the yellow - almost like a play on the idea that this was Bucks one big chance to communicate, but he doesn’t take it.
That is the last time we see Buck wearing yellow ochre until the end of season 6 - 6x15 and his date with Natalia to be precise! we’re back to that same shade of yellow ochre and once again we have Buck communicating - but its very much playing into what Natalia what to hear. I don’t doubt that BUck wants to talk about his death and resurrection, but we don’t actually see the conversation beyond the superficial overtures Buck makes. This plays into the suggestion that its about him trying to impress Natalia rather than actually about what Buck needs or wants to say. Its once again Buck communicating without actually communicating. something Eddie picks up on in the later graveyard scene and tries to provide the space for him to open up - which Buck doesn’t take.
The theme continues with the the next Buck/Natalia date in 6x17 - yellow ochre once again, this time an open shirt - again its that same shade, and we see a continuation of the Buck communicate via deflection technique he employs - this scene, like his previous date with Natalia, is more about her and the writers showing us her hang ups/ insecurities than it is about Bucks - beyond showing us that they aren’t actually all that compatible - its kind of framed in the same way as his previous relationships (especially Taylor) - Buck playing into what he thinks someone wants him to be rather than being who he actually is.
This concept is something we see in pretty much all of the previous scenes where Buck is wearing Yellow ochre, this desire to be what people need him to be rather than who he actually is. there are a couple of exceptions - the first time we see Buck in yellow ochre is probably the only instance where we see Buck being somewhat honest with himself - there is an element of him playing the role he needs to to win back Eddies friendship, but I think its coming from a genuine place and is born out of a real desire to be better - he really did learn his lesson. The fact that the next time we see the yellow ochre used is in his therapy session scene where he literally states that he hides his true feelings from others is a big giant yellow ochre flag waving around telling us that when we see Buck in yellow ochre he will be playing into that idea - and that’s then how it transpires in every subsequent scene where he is in yellow ochre.
Which brings me to this new still
no one can tell me there isn’t an air of conflict about that scene - the dark cool tone of the image suggests a coolness to the room - that idea of the cold shoulder or the temperature dropping when there is conflict between two people. their body language is also adding to that vibe - Chris turned in on himself, not sat with Buck, the space between them.
Whatever this scene transpires being about, based on what we've seen with Buck wearing yellow ochre, we can assume its going to continue to play into this idea of Buck not being fully truthful with people and fitting into the role he thinks people want him to pay rather than being true to himself.
I do want to add to this theory by looking at Christophers shirt as well. The grey/ yellow combination is a bit reminiscent of Breaking point (the episode that really is the gift that keeps on giving) becasue we get Chris in grey and Eddie in tan - that is yellowish toned whilst not actually being yellow
There isn't a good screenshot of them together, but the placing of Chris and Buck in the new one has echoes of Eddie and Chris in that scene (one that is interestingly enough playing into the idea of changing family dynamics, but also the moment before and the one that happens afterwards at Bucks loft, directly placing Buck into a parental role (as an aside the idea of Buck being a miracle worker plays into the theme of Eddie looking for magic, just saying!))
Anyone want to play a game of whose shirt does this look like??!!!
Oh you do! well what if I leave these two pictures just here...
yes, yes that is a Chris sized version of that shirt - you know the one Buck was wearing when he and Taylor talked about complicated family dynamics and about telling 'other peoples stories because I hate telling my own' you know that scene about playing a part and not being yourself around people you're supposedly close to! Yes That scene - or how about the scene which happens to be the last time we saw Buck in Chris's bedroom, where Buck talks to Eddie about complicated family dynamics, about needing to have the right outfit on for the occasion, the scene where they talk about retirement, oil and Buck is playing with a dinosaur! yeah see where I'm going with this! Chris wearing a grey shirt that similar to Bucks is Paralleling those scenes - so playing into the idea of history or of thing being outdated and needing to change, of dressing for the occasion (an allegory for playing a role - to fit in to whatever environment you're in rather than being your true self) and most importantly of complicated family dynamics - suggesting that there may have been some change in the dyamics - perhaps this will play into the will (also colour paralleling the will scene as Buck is in yellow ochre and the breaking point scene with Eddie in a yellowish colour and Chris in grey) and perhaps Chris discovering Buck would be his guardian in the event Eddie isn't around. I mean we'll have to wait and see for the actual context, but I will eat my hat if the season 7 scene isn't playing into Buckley-Diaz family dynamics in some way!
Back to this still
I keep flip flopping on if its Buck or Bobby, but right now the lack of grey hair is making me lean towards it being Buck.
This is a still of the back of Bucks head from his coma dream for comparison (blurry as hell as he's not in focus but it looks enought like the same shape of hairline and of Olivers ear for me to feel like its more Buck than Bobby!
I think the shirt is what is throwing me off though because its just so not a typical Buck shirt (excepting coma dream Bucks!).
I've gone back through my notes and I just can't find any examples of Buck wearing this kind of patterning or shirt before, the closest we get is that hideous shirt he is wearing at the hospital after Kameron has given birth
The only thing I can do is scream into the void about check theory because check does't bode well for people - they always end up in the middle of the drama (see my check theory posts linked on my pinned post for more) and while they come out the other side (99% of the time) Buck in check for that scene in 6x18 pretty much doomed his relationship with Natalia (its specific to her and not C&K's baby as Buck wasn't wearing it when he delivered it!) and as that shirt in the still is very un Buck like, has not only yellow ochre in it, but also its a white base (and we all know buck in white is a bad sign!!) and its check patterned - my theory is that this scene is connected to Natalia in some way - either Buck is not being true to him self in more than one way - that things are going to/have come to a head for their relationship (my kingdom for a reverse of Buck to Eddie about Ana in 5x03!!!) and lead to a pretty big change in some way (fingers crossed for Buck to end it and then finally break down and deal with his trauma!!!)
Some other things about that shirt - I've brightened it up in the picture below - the colour combination - the green blue and yellow ochre are giving me call backs to coma Buck (another reason I think it might be connected to Bucks unresolved trauma around his death and Eddies absense in his dream)
Then there is the burgundy stripe in combination with Eddies hand placement and the fact Eddie is wearing a denim shirt - its very Tsunami call back (even the white plays into this as well as Buck was in white when he saved Chris) -
I'm quite probably clowning hard at this point, but the fact we've got Eddie in denim again (not something he wears all that often) in a scene where he puts his hand on Bucks shoulder in that way and with his Christopher watch so very prominent - we'll I might be feeling a certain way about it.
It would make sense to play into that story arc - after all - the opening of season 7 is very much centred around a big water based disaster - its got to bring up a few things for the two of them. If it is related, Eddies Denim being darker at this point would be a nice play on things - the idea that there is more deepness - more depth to his relationship with Buck than there was in early season 3 (it even calls back to flash back Eddie in 3x16 - he is wearing dark denim when him and Shannon fight and Chris wakes up)
Ok thats enough rambling from me! Hopefully i have made a tiny bit of sense! of to go back to screaming in the void now!!

sean diaz + lyla park friendship headcanons
- lyla fit the manic pixie dream girl trope when she and sean first started being friends. she practically introduced him to a lot of good music, weed, parties, anything u could possibly think of. sean definitely put her on a pedestal in the beginnings of their friendship
- sean and lyla go back and forth with racist jokes
- whenever sean and lyla explore abandoned buildings and sean has to climb a wall/gate its like a competition to see who says something first ☠️
- “is it because im korean?”
- “yes” sean says with NO HESITATION
- lyla just stares with a blank smile LMAO
- when actual racist people come after either of them though they go batshit crazy and spew insults (lyla that is)
- bc lyla has insomnia, she will call sean at like three am and just start rambling 😭 sean will try to respond but he just mumbles in response and falls asleep within ten minutes
- she screams at him and he always flinches awake in fear LMAO she thinks its soooo funny but he hates it
- sean and lyla be gossipinggg together
- lyla has way more connections so its usually just her telling sean abt drama at school but hes so invested every single time 😭
- theyll be gossiping abt a certain person/couple and see them the next day. sean not so inconspicuously starts smirking and making faces. lyla always hits him to make him stop
- at parties sean will awkwardly linger behind lyla and shell tell him to go away bc “hes scaring the hoes”
- he in fact does not go away and just stands behind her looking slightly more tense
- sean is more of a lightweight than lyla is and she uses this to her advantage at every function. the amount of “blackmail material” she’s accumulated…
- both virgins who make fun of each other for being virgins
- super music nerds!! they go to local shows together once lyla introduces sean to the local music scene ^^
- lyla finna be in the pit… whereas sean likes to stand on the sidelines
- when lyla and sean sesh w each other sean can get paranoid sometimes. lyla thinks its hilarious when he starts freaking out about random conspiracy theories or how hard hes breathing 😭
- “the… the fucking babies man… we gotta save them…”
- “sean stop tweaking the fuck out and just enjoy the high please”
- “but lyla the babies…?“ sean whines
- “…god these chili dogs are good….”
- when sean visits lyla at work she always gives him a free drink. she has yet to get caught
- lyla expects the same treatment when she goes into the grocery store sean works at 😭
- “lyla you can’t just take the cabbage—“
- “i literally made you that mocha for free?”
- people call sean “lyla’s twink” because he talks to no girls and is always getting out of the passenger seat of her car??? LMAOOO. lyla eggs this on because she thinks its the funniest thing ever. sean absolutely hates it
- sean does not know how to social media and relies on lyla to make him look hot in her instagram stories. she’d probably post a picture of his face all scuffed up from skating to make him look hardcore LMAO
- car seat headrest lovers. they are so twin fantasy coded… they would love that album. they have that slight dependency “us against the world” vibe with exception to the abusive parts… 😭
- they also love mid90s and their friend group is quite literally that movie minus the random ten year old boy
- lyla tries to recruit daniel as the random ten year old but sean refuses because daniel is embarrassing to him LMAO
- matching stick poke tattoos??? which sean reluctantly agrees to
- lowkey lyla prob has a geek bar and sean thinks it’s the stupidest thing ever. daniel plays with the screen LMAO
- their after school routine consists of skating and being dudebros forever and ever. and ever and nothing bad happens. ever
also old but im cleaning out my notes app and thought i should share it lol. i love love sean and lyla sm thank u for the latino and asian girl duo rep life is strange!!!

okay, I care about Max and hope they don't screw up with this game. also hope that they will give the choice to "Bay or Bae", because this has happened in all further projects of the franchise.
but do you know who has a huge potential for own sequel game? Daniel Diaz, and we need to talk about it. I mean... look at this guy.
yeah, Lone Wolf is definitely heartbreaking, there is too much that can be used to create a new game with Daniel as a protagonist. too much. a criminal hot guy from Mexico who has damn powerful telekinesis and can become a participant in an incredibly fascinating story? HELL, YES. and it's going to have more of a connection to the last game than Max's sequel seems to be. he is going through the loss of his brother and many other problems, there is too much for the plot of a new game. and we could use Daniel's powers, just imagine that.
what could be better? a similar game, but "post blood brothers". an analysis of how the brothers' lives in Mexico are settling down, how they cope with some problems, and continue to share their connection... to deal with problems again. It would be a story that is directly related to the last game and would have great potential for a really good story and an exciting game. especially if we had Daniel as a protagonist this time.
Mexico endings have very lot of potential for sequels... which we won't get.
because the developers seem to ignore the existence of LIS2 as a given. our eternal pain.

Before they can settle into their respective positions, Eddie steps forward, arms open. Maddie folds into him. It’s a moment of quiet connection, years of family and growth pouring into a single hug.
“Thank you,” he breathes into her hair. “For raising him to be the person he is today.”
She doesn’t know what to say, so she draws him in even closer, overwhelmed by the weight of his words, by witnessing her little brother commit to his person. She’s always been there for him, but in this moment, standing between him and Eddie, she feels just how much they’ve given to each other. How much they’ve fought for this love, for this life. It’s almost too big for this world.
They pull apart, their eyes meeting for a split second, and in them Maddie finds everything she needs— faith, adoration, and an unspoken understanding. Eddie’s look says it all: Trust me with him.
And Maddie’s heart swells, her reply silent but strong: I do.
-
For Maddie and Buck, it’s been a lifetime of shared strength and loyalty, all culminating in a single moment. This is their relationship, traced back to a pinky promise.

Title: He only needs to love once.
Pairing: Evan “Buck” Buckley/Eddie Diaz
Notes: Flufftober Day 18 Bewitched
Tags: Love Confession, Feelings Realizations, Friends to Lovers, First Kiss, Oblivious Evan “Buck” Buckley
==================================================================
“You’ve been cursed young man.”
Evan ‘Buck’ Buckley turns to the old woman they had been called to help. Well, her client needed help, but it's her place so…
“Are you talking to me?” he asks to confirm because, while he's the last one left, why would he have been cursed?
“Yes. You lost a family member when you were young.”
“I did,” he says a bit skeptical. He might be open to the idea of the universe, jinxes, curses, full moons, the supernatural, etc., but it doesn't mean he won't be cautious about what is potentially a scam. Losing a family when you're young could happen to anyone.
But she continues, “A brother. To a vicious ailment of the blood.”
Buck’s eyes widen. He was about to write it off, but that is more specific. “How-”
“Buck! We got another call!” Bobby says through the comms, jolting Buck back into reality.
Right, he's at work.
“Come back later,” the woman tells him. “I don't believe you have plans.”
He swallows down a nervous lump in his throat. He doesn't. Tommy has work, Eddie has therapy and everyone else is going back to their family. “Okay.”
============================================
Once he's back at the lady's place, he is not okay. He's been a bundle of nerves and even paced around the station in his frazzled state.
Cursed? Him? Because of Daniel? What was it? Does it affect his family and friends? Can he take it off?
It's in this condition that he arrives on the doorsteps of an inconspicuous little storefront claiming psychic readings.
The door opens before he can think about opening it, revealing the woman from earlier. “Come in, Evan Buckley.”
Oh, yeah, this is real. This is very real.
“Tea?” she offers when they reach what Buck assumes is her meeting space.
“N-no thanks.”
She gives him a knowing smile. “Sit, Mr.Buckley. Or should I call you Evan? Buck?”
“Mr.Buckley is fine,” he says. That way, maybe he'll be more focused on what she has to say rather than freak out about this whole thing.
Not that he's not freaking out, especially when she goes to poor herself tea and remains silent.
“How do you know? About this curse?” he ends up blurting out when he couldn't take it any longer.
“Magic,” she says, putting down her cup daintily.
“Like…actual magic?”
“Yes. You are a believer, are you not? I can feel it on you.”
“I mean, it's one thing to believe it. It's a completely other thing to be involved in it. Or told you're cursed.” Then, after a beat, he asks, “It's not anything…bad is it? Will it affect the people around me?”
Red lips curve again. “No. Your loved ones will be safe.’
Buck breathes out a sigh of relief. “Then what is it? It's about my brother?”
“It was placed on you in exchange for a blessing for your brother's health. But a curse such as yours doesn’t result in a strong blessing. It never stood a chance against your brother's ailment.”
“Why?”
“It is considered a curse in many, many circles, but it is also a blessing given the right circumstances. A double-edged sword if you will but one edge is more likely to hit. Not strong enough for what your brother was going through. He needed something stronger, something that would have been much more detrimental to you. A life for a life.”
Oh. That…would have sucked for him. “And what's this curse?”
“You're cursed to love once and only once.”
He sucks in a breath. Love? Only once?
Oh, that makes sense. If you fall in love with someone who doesn't return your feelings, it would be a curse because you literally can't love anyone else. If you find someone who loves you-
“I don't see how it's a blessing.”
“When it's requited, the curse becomes a blessing, fortifying the relationship. It connects two people. There has not been a recorded case of the couple with this blessing falling apart.”
“Does it…usually stay a curse?”
“Unfortunately.”
He gulps. Major chances of unrequited love but unwavering love if requited?
He doesn't know what to think of it.
“Can it…can it be removed?”
“No,” she says again this time with a shake of her head. “It's an old curse placed on you when you were less than a year of age I suspect. It’s been on you for too long to be taken off. And that's without it active.”
“Active?!”
============================================================
The first thing he does when he finishes his conversation and steps back outside is call Maddie, asking if he could drop by her place, and, because he has the best sister ever, she tells him to come over.
“How did you know you’re in love with Chimney?” he asks several hours later after dinner and Jee-Yun is in bed. Chimney made himself scarce, holing up in the bedroom when he realized this conversation might have to be kept a secret.
She looks at him, slightly confused, before it smooths out into something Buck can't identify right now. “I think I just knew. But if I have to put words to it… I look forward to seeing him, going home to him, and even just simple calls or texts. I want to see him happy, to see him smile and laugh. He makes me feel seen and safe like nothing could go wrong. I can forget about everything that bothers me, all the horrible and annoying calls included, when I'm with him. I can let go and be free around him. I know I'd do anything for him. I'm devastated at the idea of losing him. And…I don't know Buck. It's all of that and knowing he feels the same in return, but also more. You just know, I think.”
He goes silent, playing her words in his head. Home. Seen and safe. Nothing can go wrong. Let go. Free. Do anything for him.
“What is this about Buck? Tommy?”
“No,” he says and he knows it's the truth. This active curse isn't about Tommy. If what Maddie says is true (and he's sure it is), it isn't because of Tommy that his curse is active.
“I’m cursed. Bewitched. Whatever you want to call it.”
“You're…what?”
“Cursed. This woman…she owns a shop that we went to today on a call, and she said I'm cursed.”
“And you believe her?”
“She didn't ask for anything Maddie. And everything she said without me saying anything is on point. Losing a brother to a blood ailment. My name which no one said in her vicinity. The fact that I would have been cursed when I was one at most.”
At that, Maddie's expression turns horrified, which Buck takes as her understanding the implication but not knowing of it occurring.
“Mom and Dad had me cursed to try and save Daniel,” he whispers. He honestly thought everything that his parents had done at the time had come to light, but nope. And this is arguably more terrible, and that's with Buck's curse not being entirely belligerent.
“Oh, Evan,” Maddie breathes, putting a hand on his arm, the name spilling out reminding Buck of the many, many years that his sister was there for him whenever he felt hurt or sad about their parents. Even now, the name from her lips brings him that unique sense of sisterly love and comfort that is all Maddie. “How long?”
“When I was one at most,” he repeats.
“No. I mean…how long do you have left?”
Buck startles, understanding crashing into him. “Oh no! Not like that!” he quickly reassures her. “It's not that kind of curse!”
Maddie heaves a great sigh of relief, dropping back onto the couch, and placing a hand on her chest. “Oh my God, Evan, you scared me! You couldn't have started with that?!”
“Sorry,” he tells her sheepishly. “But yeah. It's not going to kill me. Maybe my heart, but not anything else.”
Understanding dawns on her face. “That's why you asked about love. It's a love-related curse.”
“Yeah. I'm cursed to only love once - romantically - even if it's unrequited. And it's already active. As in, I'm in love with someone.”
“And you're not sure who?”
“I'm not sure who,” he confirms. “I mean, it's not Tommy because what you said doesn't apply but there's not a lot of people that it could be you know? It can't be Ali or Natalia. And if it's Abby or Taylor…”
“Buck, I think you need to think a little beyond that.”
“Beyond?”
She smiles at him in a way that lets him know she suspects something. “Yes. Beyond.”
===================================================
Buck's not sure about the whole ‘beyond’ thing that Maddie suggested. He's still not sure what she could mean about that and who she thinks he loves.
But what he did know was that he had to break up with Tommy because he couldn't lead the man on knowing he'd never love him, so he did that the next day, stopping by the older man's workplace where it all started.
Then, he drifts, trying his hardest to think about who got his curse to activate, and who he's in love with with.
It's futile though. The more he thinks about it, the more he comes up empty.
So he does the best thing he can think about.
He goes to Eddie's.
Buck has no intention of telling Eddie about the curse, of course, because Eddie has always been skeptical about anything supernatural or paranormal. He can, however, relax in Eddie's presence, which is exactly what he needs instead of fretting about having an unrequited love and being alone for the rest of his life.
“Want to watch Crime Scene Kitchen?” Eddie suggests after Buck just slumps into Eddie's couch without a single word.
He perks up immediately. “Is that even a question?”
And in the middle of yelling at the screen (because how in the world does anyone get lime zest from matcha?!?!?!), he thinks that maybe he doesn't have to fret about his future too much even if he never figures out who he loves or if it's unrequited. After all, he has his sister and the 118.
Most importantly, he has his best friend who will always have his back.
=========================================================
“Eds, please step away from the stove.”
Brown eyes blink up guilty at him, and Eddie's expression morphs into one like a child who got caught with their hand in the cookie jar.
“I thought you were going to shower,’’ Eddie says like that's an acceptable excuse for him to be cooking.
“Well, I forgot to get some new clothes-”
“That explains why you're only in a towel.”
“-so I went to grab some and heard you taking out the eggs.”
Eddie stares at him. “You could not have heard that.”
“I absolutely did. Now shoo.”
“It's my kitchen!”
“I'm commandeering it now. Go shower first.”
They both need showers. They got a short one at the station last night before heading to Eddie's together (as they are wont to do these past few weeks), but it had nothing on a good, long shower. They completely crashed when they got back though, so this morning it is.
“You're the worst,” Eddie grumbles, putting down the spatula he's holding and ‘presenting’ the stove to Buck. “And at least put something on!”
“What? Can't handle it?”
Eddie rolls his eyes fondly. “You're a menace, Buckley.”
“You love me.”
“I don't know why I do.”
Then, Eddie goes to the hangar with the aprons, grabs the one that Buck likes to use, and stalks back, throwing it around Buck's neck.
“Better?” he asks when Eddie gets finished tying it on him.
“Much. Now, I want-”
“Over easy eggs with crispy edges and crispy bacon on medium toast. I've got you. And I'll have your coffee ready by the time you're out.”
Eddie gives him that soft look that he's coming to find is only reserved for him, a small smile on his face. “You know me so well.”
“How can I not?”
With another grin sent his way, Eddie leaves him to his cooking, heading for the showers. Buck takes another moment to consider getting something to wear besides a towel and apron before shrugging it off and starting his job. He practically got Eddie's endorsement to walk around and cook like this anyway.
Ten minutes or so later, though, he hears a curse coming from the bathroom and a thud that suggests something fell.
Or someone.
Buck abandons the bacon on the stove, sprinting the distance between the kitchen and the bathroom, and opening the door without preamble.
And sees Eddie on the floor, holding his head.
“Eds!” he yells, frantic, getting on his knees to check for injuries.
“I'm fine, Buck. Just a little fall.”
Buck ignores that, checking Eddie's head with an urgency that rivals no other.
“Buck,” Eddie says, grabbing his hand. “I've had enough bad falls to know this is isn't it.”
“Are you sure? Let's go to the hospital just in case. Because-”
“Evan.”
Buck pauses in his tirade, blinking at Eddie’s usage of his birth name.
“I'm fine,” Eddie reassures him, squeezing his hand.
“But…just in case?”
What if there's something they can't see? What if he fractured his skull or something?
He loves Eddie too much to lose him, much less to a bathroom!
He was only able to find the answer to the whole ‘Who do I love’ question last week, but he's sure he does!
He really, really loves Eddie. How he missed it when it was in front of him the whole time? He doesn't know. But he does know that, once he had the curse and Maddie's words in the back of his mind, he had to reevaluate all his feelings for the people in his life, including Eddie, and he could totally see what Maddie was talking about now even in the past few weeks alone.
Buck is always looking forward to seeing Eddie or getting a text or call from him. He loves going home with Eddie. He wants to see Eddie smile and laugh, a want that was only amplified during the dark times when Christopher wasn't talking to his dad but isn't going to go away even with Christopher's homecoming that's on the horizon. He feels seen with Eddie. He feels safe with Eddie. He can forget about everything and let go when he's with Eddie.
And honestly, what won't he do for Eddie? He will dig through mud for Eddie. He will risk getting shot for Eddie. As long as Eddie is happy, safe and healthy, there's nothing Buck won't do.
So this? This would have worried him before he realized his feelings, and it's only tenfold now.
“Buck,” Eddie says, fondly exasperated.
“Eddie,” he parries, giving his best friend the best pleading eyes he can manage. “I just don't want you to-”
Then Eddie kisses him.
Eddie. Kisses. Him.
“W-wha- You k-kissed me,” he manages to stutter out when Eddie pulls away and Buck's brain goes back online.
“Well, when you fret over me like that, it warrants it.” A look of concern flashes over Eddie's face. “That was okay though right? I just… recently, I've been getting signals from you so I thought-”
“Yes. Absolutely. I love you. I want to be with you for the rest of my life.”
Curse or no curse, that is true.
“I can get behind that,” Eddie grins. “Because I love you too.”
Something in Buck’s chest unfurls, the fear of being left behind and alone not dissipating but lightening like he knows this is it, that this is what he was looking for.
It’s also probably the curse transitioning into a blessing, but he can’t bother to think about that now.
Now, he just kisses Eddie again. He’s aware enough that he hasn’t properly showered yet, though, so he keeps contact minimum except for the lips that meet again and again.
He wants to let his hands roam. But he needs to shower first. He needs t o finish br-
Oh fuck.
“The breakfast!” he yells, scrambling up from the bathroom floor. He can’t let their first breakfast as an item get ruined can he? What if that’s a dealbreaker?
Wait, what happens if the curse isn’t fully a blessing yet? Can it revert back if Eddie decides that he doesn’t want Buck who burns the breakfast?
”Who should be run out of the kitchen now?” Eddie calls after him, teasing.
Buck looks back to see Eddie getting up and-
Oh.
Eddie is naked. Very naked.
How did he miss that?
”Not me!” he answers, face heating, backing out of the bathroom before he can do something stupid like press Eddie against the wall and let the breakfast burn.
He does not want to be on the other end of a 9-1-1 call.
That reminds him. “Wait. We need to get you to the hospital!”
”Just get the breakfast, Buck!”
Buck does, and Eddie gets out of going to the hospital by distracting him around every corner after they eat. It doesn’t mean he doesn’t keep a close eye on his boyfriend though. Just in case.
And later, when they’ve had their first date and end up snuggling on the couch watching one of Eddie’s telenovelas, he wonders if the curse is important in the grand scheme of things. Sure, it made him realize the feelings he has for his partner, but he thinks he would have gotten there eventually.
And sure, it makes him confident that their love will never waver, but has it ever wavered?
Because no one else makes him feel this way. Eddie and Christopher. That’s what he’s always wanted to hold close.
He didn’t need to curse to force him to love once. He only would have loved once anyway. He only needs to love once.
And he will continue to love his one and only for the rest of his days.

New Beginnings
tags: post Blood Brothers ending, Sean Diaz x Reader, might contain smut in future chapters, lots of fluff, romantic fluff, overall just fucking wholesome, obviously mentions Daniel quite often, sfw in the beginning, maybe nsfw in the future idk, definitely slow burn, female reader
chapter summary: you make a surprising discovery
Chapter seven
The next morning, you wake up on the couch feeling surprisingly refreshed, despite the drinks from the night before. You stretch and look around, realizing that Sean and Daniel are already up and about.
Sean comes into the living room, carrying a tray with coffee and breakfast. “Good morning, sleepyhead. How are you feeling?”
You sit up, rubbing your eyes. “Morning. I’m actually feeling pretty good. Thanks for the coffee.”
Sean sets the tray down and sits next to you. “No problem. Daniel’s already made himself scarce. I think he’s out and about somewhere.”
You take a sip of coffee, enjoying the warmth. “I hope he’s okay. Last night was really fun.”
Sean smiles, his eyes twinkling with a mix of affection and amusement. “Yeah, he enjoyed it too. He was just asking me some questions before he went off to do his own thing.”
“Oh? What kind of questions?” you ask, curious.
Sean chuckles. “Oh, just about us, really. He’s a bit of a matchmaker at heart.”
You laugh softly. “Well, I hope he’s not planning any surprise proposals or anything.”
Sean grins, his eyes crinkling at the corners. “No, nothing like that. But he does care a lot, and he wants the best for both of us.”
As the morning progresses, you and Sean enjoy breakfast together, talking about your plans for the day and reminiscing about last night. The connection between you deepens, marked by the ease and affection that has developed over the past weeks.
The day stretches out before you, filled with possibilities and the promise of more shared adventures. The future remains uncertain, but one thing is clear: you and Sean are creating something special, one day at a time.
You leave the Diaz house with a sense of warmth and excitement, the memory of the night’s festivities lingering in your mind. As you drive home, the familiar streets seem to take on a new sheen, reflecting the hopeful and slightly anxious feelings you’re experiencing.
Back at your place, you take some time to reflect on the growing connection between you and Sean. The evening had been magical, and you can’t help but wonder where this path might lead. The way he looks at you, the ease of your conversations, and the genuine care he shows—it all feels so right. Yet, there’s a flutter of uncertainty. Is this too good to be true? How will this relationship fit into your life?
Sitting at your desk, you pull out your notebook and begin to jot down ideas for one of your ongoing writing projects. The inspiration flows effortlessly, spurred by the emotions and experiences you’ve had recently. Each word you write feels like a step towards something new and exciting, and you lose yourself in the creative process, feeling more connected to your work than ever before.
The next day, a spark of excitement and newfound inspiration drives you to visit the Diaz garage unannounced. You’ve been mulling over some new business ideas, eager to discuss them with Sean. The desire to see him again adds a spring to your step as you make the spontaneous visit.
As you pull up to the garage, you notice the doors are open, and the familiar sounds of tools and machinery hum from within. You park and walk toward the garage, your thoughts racing about how to present your new ideas to Sean. The anticipation of seeing his reaction and sharing your progress fills you with a sense of purpose.
Stepping inside, you see Sean working on a car, deeply engrossed in his task. You take a moment to admire his focus and skill, the way his hands move deftly, his brow furrowed in concentration. Just as you’re about to call out to him, a strange, soft rustling sound from the corner of the garage catches your attention.
Turning your head, you’re stunned to see Daniel standing near a workbench. His hands are extended toward a pile of tools, which are floating in mid-air, suspended by an unseen force. Daniel’s eyes are closed in concentration, and he seems completely absorbed in the display of telekinesis.
Your breath catches in your throat. For a moment, you think you’re dreaming. The logical part of your mind struggles to process what you’re seeing. This can’t be real—people don’t just move things with their minds. Your heart races, and a wave of panic surges through you.
You back away slowly, your mind whirling with confusion and fear. Just as you turn to leave, Sean looks up from his work, noticing your sudden change in demeanor.
“Hey, are you okay?” Sean’s voice is filled with concern. He walks over, his brow furrowed. “You look pale. What’s wrong?”
You can’t find the words to explain or even process what you’ve just witnessed. The only thing you know is that you need to get away. “I... I’m sorry, I need to go,” you manage to stammer, your voice barely above a whisper.
Sean’s face falls, and he reaches out a hand as if to stop you. “Wait, let me explain! This isn’t—”
But you’re already rushing out of the garage, your footsteps echoing on the concrete floor. You fumble with your car keys, your hands shaking as you start the engine. The drive home is a blur of erratic thoughts and a growing sense of disbelief.
Back at your apartment, you pace around, trying to make sense of what you saw. The excitement of your visit has turned into a knot of anxiety. You sit down, trying to calm yourself. Is this some sort of elaborate joke? Did you imagine it? What does this mean for your relationship with Sean?
The quiet of your house does little to soothe your frazzled nerves. The normalcy of your surroundings feels alien and distant compared to the whirlwind of emotions you’re experiencing. You question your own sanity, the sight of Daniel’s telekinesis playing over and over in your mind.
You sit on the couch, hugging a pillow to your chest. The familiar comfort of your living room feels strangely uninviting. Your thoughts are a tangled mess of fear, confusion, and a deep sense of betrayal. How could something like this be hidden from you? Were they planning to tell you? Or were you never meant to find out?
You recall every interaction with Sean and Daniel, scrutinizing every detail, searching for any signs you might have missed. The weight of the secret presses down on you, making it hard to breathe.
As the evening approaches, you feel more isolated than ever. The discovery has left you disoriented, and the only thing you’re certain of is that you need some time to figure things out before confronting Sean again. The shadows lengthen outside your window, mirroring the shadows of doubt in your mind.
You try to distract yourself with a book, but the words blur together, and you can’t focus. The sight of Daniel’s telekinesis keeps replaying in your mind, each replay heightening your anxiety. You wonder if you’re losing your grip on reality.
The day ends with more questions than answers. As you try to unwind, you find it difficult to focus on anything other than the strange and troubling discovery. You drift into a restless sleep, the shadows of uncertainty hanging heavy over your dreams.
The next morning, you wake up with a heavy heart. The events of the previous day weigh on you, but you know you can’t avoid the truth forever. You need to understand what’s happening, and more importantly, you need to decide how you feel about it.
You decide to take a walk to clear your head. The fresh air and the sound of birds chirping help to calm your nerves. As you walk, you think about Sean and Daniel, the bond you’ve formed with them, and the potential for something more with Sean. But now, everything feels uncertain.
You sit on a bench in the park, watching the world go by. You see families playing, friends chatting, and couples holding hands. It reminds you of what you want—a sense of normalcy, of connection. But how can you have that when the world you thought you knew has been turned upside down?
After some time, you stand up, feeling a newfound determination. You need answers, and you need to hear them from Sean and Daniel. You need to understand what’s happening, and you need to decide if you can accept it.
With a deep breath, you head back to your house. You know the conversation ahead won’t be easy, but you also know that you can’t move forward without it. The future remains uncertain, but one thing is clear: you need to face the truth, no matter how unsettling it may be.
The next morning, after a restless night filled with fragmented dreams and unanswered questions, you wake up feeling determined. You know you can't avoid the truth forever. The sooner you understand what’s happening, the sooner you can decide how to move forward. Taking a deep breath, you get dressed and head out to your car, driving back to the Diaz house with a mix of trepidation and resolve.
As you pull up to the familiar garage, you see Sean outside, working on a car. He looks up and immediately notices your anxious expression. Concern flashes across his face, and he sets down his tools, walking toward you with a cautious but hopeful look.
“Hey,” Sean says softly, his voice filled with worry. “I’m really sorry about how you found out yesterday. That wasn’t how I wanted you to learn about… all of this.”
You nod, swallowing the lump in your throat. “Can we talk? I need to understand what’s going on.”
Sean gestures toward the house. “Of course. Let’s go inside.”
Once inside, you both sit down on the couch. Sean takes a deep breath, gathering his thoughts before he begins. “It all started with our dad’s death,” he says, his voice heavy with emotion. “He was shot by a cop, and everything just… spiraled out of control from there.”
He pauses, looking at you to gauge your reaction. You nod, urging him to continue.
“After that, Daniel’s powers started to manifest. It was terrifying and confusing for both of us. We didn’t know what was happening or how to control it. We were scared, and we felt like we had no one to turn to.” Sean's eyes glaze over as he recalls the harrowing experiences.
“So we ran,” Sean continues. “We left Seattle and started moving south, trying to find a place where we could be safe. We had to lie, steal, and do things I’m not proud of just to survive. But through it all, we’ve had each other.”
Daniel appears in the doorway, having overheard part of the conversation. He steps into the room, looking both nervous and determined. “I’m sorry you had to see that yesterday,” Daniel says, his voice quiet but sincere. “I didn’t mean to scare you.”
You nod, taking in the gravity of their situation. “I can’t imagine how hard it must have been for you two. I’m really sorry for everything you’ve had to go through.”
Daniel gives you a small, appreciative smile. “Do you want to see my powers? I can show you in a less… scary way.”
You hesitate but then nod. “Okay. I think that might help.”
Daniel looks around the room and spots a small, decorative bowl on the coffee table. He focuses on it, his eyes narrowing slightly. Slowly, the bowl rises into the air, hovering gently before floating over to you. He sets it down softly in your lap.
Your breath catches as you watch, a mix of awe and disbelief flooding your senses. “This is… incredible. But I don’t understand how it works. How can this be possible?”
Sean reaches out, taking your hand in his. “We don’t fully understand it either. But we’ve learned to accept it and live with it. Daniel’s powers are a part of who he is.”
You take a deep breath, trying to process everything. “I’m going to need some time to digest all of this. It’s a lot to take in.”
Sean squeezes your hand gently. “Take all the time you need. We’re here for you, and we’ll answer any questions you have.”
Despite the whirlwind of emotions and the mind-bending reality you’ve just been exposed to, you realize that your feelings for Sean and Daniel haven’t changed. If anything, you feel a deeper connection to them now, knowing the struggles they’ve faced and the strength they’ve shown.
“I’m really sorry for everything you two have been through,” you say, your voice filled with genuine compassion. “You didn’t deserve any of that. But I want you to know that I’m here for you. Both of you.”
Sean smiles, relief and gratitude evident in his eyes. “Thank you. That means a lot to us.”
As the conversation winds down, you feel a sense of tentative peace. There are still many questions and uncertainties, but you know one thing for sure: you’re in this together, and that makes all the difference.
After a moment of silence, curiosity starts to bubble up within you. You take a deep breath and decide to ask more questions. “How did you make it past the border? And why did you choose Mexico?”
Sean nods, understanding your need for answers. “It wasn’t easy. We had a lot of close calls, and there were times when I didn’t think we’d make it. We crossed the border with the help of some kind people we met along the way. It was a risky move, but staying in the U.S. wasn’t an option for us. We needed to find somewhere we could start over.”
You listen intently, hanging onto every word. “And why Mexico?”
Sean leans back, glancing at Daniel before answering. “Our dad was originally from Mexico. We thought coming here would give us a better chance to blend in and find some sort of stability. Plus, it felt like a way to reconnect with a part of our heritage. Our journey here wasn’t straightforward, though. We had to adapt and survive in ways we never imagined.”
Daniel chimes in, his voice soft but steady. “We’ve had to keep a low profile, but we’ve also met some amazing people who’ve helped us along the way. Like Mrs. Perez, for example. She’s been like family to us.”
You nod, absorbing their words. “It’s incredible how resilient you both are. It sounds like you’ve been through so much.”
Sean looks at you, his expression earnest. “We have, but we’ve also grown stronger because of it. And now, we have you. That means a lot to us.”
You smile, feeling a mix of emotions—compassion, admiration, and a growing sense of connection. “I’m glad I can be here for you. And I want to help in any way I can.”
Sean’s grip on your hand tightens slightly, his gratitude clear. “Thank you. It feels good to finally share this with someone who understands and doesn’t judge.”
Daniel nods in agreement. “Yeah, it’s been hard keeping this a secret. It’s nice to have someone else we can trust.”
You take a deep breath, feeling the weight of the situation but also a newfound sense of purpose. “Does anyone else know about Daniel’s powers?”
Sean shakes his head. “No one here in Mexico, except for you. Back in the States, a few people found out, but we had to keep moving to stay safe. That’s why it’s so important to keep this a secret.”
“I understand,” you say. “It’s a lot to take in, but I won’t tell anyone. I promise.”
Sean and Daniel both smile, the tension in the room easing. The bond between you grows stronger, forged by honesty and mutual support. You know there will be challenges ahead, but you’re ready to face them together.
The day stretches out before you filled with possibilities and the promise of more shared adventures. The future remains uncertain, but one thing is clear: you and the Diaz brothers are creating something special, one day at a time.

My fave headcanon is that if Buddie get married Buck will keep his last name and they will hyphenate because he might have shit parents but he loves Maddie and Jee-Yun and wants to be connected to them (he also wants Daniel to live through their names even if he never knew him). Eddie agrees easily because he tells Buck he wants him to create his own happy family and associate happiness with the name Buckley. And Buck can't help the way his heart feels like exploding every time he sees "Christopher Buckley-Diaz" on anything.
#buddie#buckley diaz family#soft thoughts about their last names#i know most people like him changing his name to diaz#but i feel like it's very buck of him to keep his name too#he is definitely tracing the Christopher Buckley-Diaz on every form they fill up no matter how many years passes

hellooooo could you do sean diaz dating headcanons?? <3
dating sean diaz headcanons
note: sorry for the long wait!! i hope you like this one :))
warnings: just fluff <33
sean is THE ULTIMATE emotional support boyfriend. he’ll sit with you for hours while you pour your heart out, nodding, listening, maybe offering a little advice when needed. but mostly he’s just there, validating your feelings.
sean might try to act all macho and shit but he’s definitely THE golden retriever boyfriend. he’s always there to cheer you on, quietly hyping you up when you need it. he won’t shout it from the rooftops, but when you need someone to tell you that you’re important? he’s the first one to do it. always. he never wants you to feel less than what you really are.
when it comes to dates… think low-key and artsy. somedays are just lowkey. movie night as his house. just you, him…. and daniel, mostly because sean’s dad doesn’t want any funny business to happen while him and daniel are in the house. or if he’s feeling adventurous that day, he’d take you on a random adventure to sketch the sunset, or maybe even make a painting of the two of you. maybe he’d even give you some lessons or two, if you don’t know how to draw.
if someone even thinks about hurting you, sean’s ready to defend you—whether it’s with fighting words or his fists, if it comes to that. he’s not the type to go looking for trouble, but if someone crosses the line with you? all bets are off. he’s calm and level-headed most of the time, but the second he senses you’re in danger, he’s all action, no hesitation.
oh, you better believe sean will tease you, but in the most playful way. it’s kind of a mutual thing between the two. however, he does seem to start it the most. he’ll pretend he doesn’t like it when you get all shy and flustered, but the moment he sees your cheeks go red? he’s secretly loving it, and he’ll keep doing it.
sean’s idea of love is giving his WHOLE heart, and once he’s in, he’s ALL in. he’s not about to let anyone or anything come between you two. he’ll always check in on you, surprise you with little texts.
he doesn’t want to control you or keep you from doing your thing, but he’ll always check in on you, make sure you’re safe, and love you from a distance if you need space.
he’s the type to make you a surprise sketch of the two of you, or maybe write you a song, or like, draw your favorite scene from a book you both love.
sean LOVES a good deep conversation at 3 AM. its the best time to talk about your dreams, fears, and everything in between. you’ll be up all night, talking about the future, or just rambling about life, and honestly, those moments are when you feel the most connected to him.

chewing chewing chewing on. diaz brothers and hair. the way it changes over time in-game like it never really does for other lis protagonists. they've got similar lengths in ep1, short and neatly cut, and it grows out until we've got those magnificent mullets or whatever in ep 3, because of how long they've been living in the wild. then Sean can either get it cut or take the opportunity to work shit out with his brother; if he chooses the former he's literally letting a piece of the connection he shares with his brother get sliced away.
but either way they both have their hair forcibly cut in ep 4, Daniel by Lisbeth and Sean at the hospital, something about haircuts as a traditional tool of forced assimilation or prisoners getting shaved heads, and that's when their connection is at its weakest. only for them to find each other again, and for their hair to grow back out in ep 5 until it's a length resembling ep 1, but a little bit wilder, more ragged at the edges, the way they are. and lone wolf Daniel's hair being blonde, something someone said about him maybe dying it because he doesn't want to look like Sean, trying to bleach his brother out while also building a shrine to him, the conflict buzzing there.
just like. um. hair as kinship and memory and marker and inheritance and the literal dead cells haunting us and the living truths we braid into it and locks of loved ones that we keep. also we deserve fan art where they get a change to grow it to their waists or smth because I really think that would fix me.

Writers Wrapped
Tagged by @missanniewhimsy—thanks for the tag dear!
Favorite Story you've worked on this year: oof. Uh, maybe from an accomplishment of finishing it I’d have to go with Choices and Regrets—it started as my NaNoWriMo/Rough Trade project in Nov 2023 but it really got edited and finished in 2024. The source of this 911 semi-fusion is Dark Matter the book by Blake Crouch/tv show and I have yet to really see anything else done with this trope. It’s dimension hopping, doppelgänger, stolen identities and true love kinda all wrapped into one thriller of a fic. I hope I did right by the inspiration source as it’s been one of my favorite books for years.
Favorite Character that you've written this year: Probably Eddie Diaz. I feel like in the 911 fandom a lot of people tend to favor Buck’s pov and some days Eddie just speaks to me in a very different and clearer way. With the final chapter of Family, Familia, ‘Ohana finally completed this year, I really struggled with this chapter until I realized I needed to change the POVs order around and let Eddie have his moment to play vanguard for Buck.
The other character I’ve been having a lot of fun writing is Danny Williams in Jersey Boys which so far has been his POV. This is Danny pre-series, he’s more jersey in all the jersey ways. Also, his partner who’s an OC, Lorraine, has real main character energy and give’s Danny a run for his money. So far, the fic has been really fun to write because of how bombastic these two are.
Favorite scene you've worked on this year: There’s a few to chose from but I’m going to mention the scene where Jonas Taylor and Owen Grady meet in Scratching an Itch. This is a complete and utter crack fic with a crack pairing—there is no way that these two characters could meet as they’re in different movies… yet there’s a thread of craziness that connects them. Owen walks into Jonas’ neighborhood bar and terrible pickup lines aside, they end up going home together. Jonas’ POV is vey clear cut, cynical, and down to uh, ‘have fun’ (the whole fic is a pwp with a plot holding it together with duct tape). It’s just a ridiculous fic overall but it was fun writing in Jonas’ POV and going for it. And why not have a Jurassic World/the Meg crossover?
Favorite piece of inspiration you've used this year(i.e. song, movie, art):
The finale/epilogue of Family, Familia, ‘Ohana was always going to Home by Jack Johnson. Similarly, Choices and Regrets was always going to have its epilogue built around Semisonic’s Closing Time. I write a lot based on emotions in certain lyrics or the song itself. Both of these songs evoke the feeling I’m going for in these chapters and both were long fics that feel like a huge accomplishment to have finished.
Favorite line or lines you've written:
uh, well, I’ve been collecting terrible one-liners lately (see Scratching an Itch or Jersey Boys). There’s a few honorable mentions, but the one that made me sputter and fall off my chair laughing as I wrote it was from Chasing My Ghosts Away (If Only For Tonight) which is a one-shot set in The Lincoln Lawyer season 3 and is basically an excuse to have Mickey taken out of his spiraling thoughts by Omar the bodyguard.
“And what do you call this?” Mickey asks helplessly, clenching down rhythmically, trying to encourage Omar to give him a real thrust, feeling his peak vanish out of reach.
“I call this stamina, hermoso,” Omar says with a smirk before withdrawing and giving Mickey a real thrust, making him yelp, before catching his mouth and fusing their lips together.
Writing piece or accomplishment you're most proud of: I finished Family Familia ‘Ohana. This fic took me years to write. I’m so damn happy to have it finished and out there. Give me a month or two and I’ll clean up a few things and start posting the sequels. The Bobby POV fic What Becomes of the Broken Hearted will be next with probably A Final Vow (David ‘Deacon’ Kay/Daniel ‘Hondo’ Harrelson) fic to follow.

actually if i may be so bold, in some ways sam/tory makes me more [insert some kinda bites things feeling here] than lawrusso or cobra husbands, not because they don't all compliment each other wonderfully (as, for that matter, does danzen in my humble opinion) but because if you were gonna make an explicitly queer couple, it probably was never going to be legacy characters, it wasn't going to be the mendudeguys that the mendudeguys who are writing it are also writing it for, but if they were thinking about nextgen, really thinking
like the excellent casting of miguel diaz, off the back of daniel larusso being italian american right on the cusp of the time in which that was still considered something lesser and often mistaken (by people watching) for a latino lad, so taking that to the next step and actually saying who today would be that kid, where would he be from, what would he look like and it's obviously miguel diaz, spot on!
similarly maybe it should have been obvious to make sam and tory gay for each other if you were really trying to also appeal to the diverse youths that are seemingly being catered to via the younger contingent, and yeah it might (it would) lend more fuel to the fire of connecting that very deliberately lawrusso 2.0 dynamic to the OG dynamic, however they could have just presented it as-is, they didn't need to do anything to say that these things are Connected, we ship anyway, we ship with no text at times
like
sure I like to say that the first gen have queer subtext, but the younger gen are playing with a whole new set of cards that you didn't have in the 1980s, when you couldn't just release a mainstreamish movie for the kids in which boys kiss
they could've had the girls kiss is what I'm saying here, they really coulda (and like, look, they're not gonna, but if I had to tread carefully lest I got cancelled and then discovered I had one season left, I would make the girls kiss)
(alas)
(but they should)

not to expound on the tags in my last reblog re:buckley v diaz parents, but i am going to do just that lol
when i look at the buckley parents i see a pair of people who were traumatized by the death of their child and their reaction to that trauma was actively harmful. they were emotionally negligent of maddie and buck, they parentified maddie and left it to her to raise buck, and they tried to bury the existence of daniel because they were so unequipped to deal with their grief and a byproduct of that was further traumatizing maddie, who had no outlet for her grief and was taught to hide it instead, and harmed buck by creating this giant gulf in his own family narrative by which he fundamentally could not connect with his parents or understand their actions.
things i saw in the other tags and posts that i disagree with: i don't think they blamed buck for failing to save daniel—that is not something we see them doing nor is it something we hear maddie and/or buck accusing them of. buck certainly FEELS like he's at fault when he finds out the truth, but that's because of the fact that it was hidden from him for so long. if anything, you could argue that part of their faulty rationalization when hiding daniel's existence was to protect buck from that feeling. i am not arguing that that logic is sound or defensible, just merely stating a position that would imply they are not blaming buck.
i also, just, don't blame them for having buck to save daniel? there are certainly ethical quandaries to be had about parents having a savior baby and all that entails. but i also don't fault a set of parents for doing whatever was necessary and grabbing at every opportunity to try and save their son's life even if, yes, it meant having another child. now, CLEARLY they weren't mentally or emotionally equipped to raise that child after daniel died, and it's obvious that they did not consider this outcome when they decided to have buck because of the actions they eventually take, but i also don't fault them for the initial decision.
the other thing i would argue about is in regards to if the buckley parents love their children. i think we can answer that based on what we see of them in canon. we learn that the whole reason buck developed a reckless streak was because it was learned behavior as a child. he realized that when he put himself in danger, or injured himself, or was sick, he received the love and affection he craved from his parents. that is MONUMENTALLY fucked up. they SHOULD have been able to show him that love at all times. they caused him lifelong emotional damage that he needs to heal on his own because they could not access their own emotions except for in situations of extreme fear and concern. was it enough? no. does the fact that they showed him love and care in these moments make up for the times they withheld it from him? of course not. but i think it's evidence that the love was, fundamentally, still there. similarly, in regards to maddie, their concern about her relationship with doug was telling.
it's obvious to me, at least, that for the buckley's they’re so emotionally numbed that the only times their emotions are actually let out is when triggered by extreme fear for their children's safety. that is not healthy. that is not okay. but it is informed by their trauma surrounding daniel's death, and it is something i can understand even if i find it harmful.
basically, i really do think that canon got it right when maddie said they were good people but bad parents. i think it's generalizing it a bit, but fundamentally i think that's a pretty insightful read on them. they are people who underwent an extreme trauma and it changed them for the rest of their life to the point that they could not parent their children and that is not okay. but when i look at the two sets of parents discussed in the post, i can understand the reasons for one's actions, and i cannot understand the others.
#i'm not even tagging this with anything lol#why did i type all this out oh my god#i will probably delete this
