i don't mean to vagueblog about other folks in the tag, but i was going through the angelkin tag and saw a very pretty version of the bible that happened to have the translation written on the front.
(if you're seeing this, hi, your copy of the bible is extremely pretty and i am not knocking you for it, it just made my brain spark some very tired sludgy neurons)
i am well aware not all of us identify with the bible (maybe not even any abrahamic texts)--- i mean, i'm one of those angels that doesn't entirely. but there are those in my system that do more heavily rely on the bible as part of what defines their identity. they also work in the framework of christianity, so they've done research to find a translation that meets their standards (accurate and complete).
(i think the post that we actually used to decide that is on one of our many sideblogs)
all this is convoluted preamble to my question, which is: what translations of various texts do you use, and how did you come to that decision regarding them?

Pros of re-reading your own fic
a good time;
Has exactly the tropes you like and the characterization you want to read;
Gratification: yes you did finish a thing and yes you did do good;
just a very fun time all around.
Cons of re-reading your own fic:
Is that another TYpO

Honestly it boils down to reparenting yourself & rewiring your own neuronal pathways & telling yourself a firm “stop” when you notice your mind slipping down negative loopholes & being present in the moment & enjoying being mid task rather than waiting for it to end & not thinking of inertia as your baseline and natural way of living

also worth noting that "abusive" doesn't actually mean "irredeemable" either.
there's a lot of people that have done things in the past that were bad, because they weren't taught any better, or they were in an overall toxic situation where EVERYONE was shitty (like a cult), or they were just at an especially low point and hurt others for it.
you don't have to forgive them. you don't have to ever speak to them again. you can be angry with them until you die if you want.
but society cannot function if we don't allow them to move on. to change their behavior and fuck off somewhere else and build meaningful relationships without bothering you again. we need a path for people to change, or nothing ever will.

maybe a weird one here but i feel like hell followed with us by andrew joseph white is, if not peak, at least tangential angelkin literature. i don’t know how to elaborate on this without explaining the book, which has a lot of content warnings to mention, so...
(content warnings for the book, sourced from the storygraph page include: body horror, transphobia, gore, deadnaming, dysphoria, death of parent)
(content warnings in addition that we’ll note: discussions of radical christian ideology)
so hell followed with us is kind of a weird book for us considering we normally don’t read zombie apocalypse fiction. but it’s kind of a fresh take on the genre. the main character is basically infected with a special variant of the fic’s zombie virus and slowly mutating into a biblically accurate angel (i’m only half joking).
the whole novel is just about dealing with the overlap between the body horror elements and the trans elements (because OH YEAH THE MC IS A TRANS GUY), and. it would be spoilers if i explained it but at the very least i feel it’s safe to say this book is SO angelkin it hurts (and we might add it to the few priveleged titles we actually reread within a year or two of first read lol).
if you’re angelkin (or honestly, fallen angelkin), you miiiight like this book, just saying.
here’s the storygraph page on it: [link]

I think we should have a turn of phrase for "I'm not in the right, but I AM annoyed with this situation, so I just need to go bitch to a friend about this before I suck it up and go do the right thing" because more and more I'm finding this is a critical element of functional adulthood.
