main take aways from Halloween (1978) rewatch:

michael myers is canonically 21??? this bitch should be at the club

that's it that's the movie

outside of the fact that everyone who has sex is murdered by the narrative, this is a surprisingly chill portrayal of female sexuality? these teen girls are horny and actively enjoying Getting It On with their boytoys. no pushy boyfriends sneaking in through their bedroom windows--these ladies are taking the initiative to sneak out and GET SOME. one of them gets laid and then immediately orders her boyfriend to get her a beer. (yes she gets Slashered soon afterward, but so does the boyfriend so honestly, gender equality.) yes the Final Girl is the only one not having sex, but she's not bullied for that, nor are her friends slut shamed except possibly by being murdered by the narrative

actually the only character who is shown being morally condemned on-screen is michael myers. specifically FOR his violent overreaction to other people's sex lives. (people he is spying on). metaphorically, the villain is American Puritanism sticking its judgy nose into other people's business.

but actually the real villain is the doctor. guy's a judgemental, shaming, pathologizing asshole. and he's been in charge of michael's care since he was SIX YEARS OLD? kid never had a chance. i'd go on a killing spree too

also the parents. where are the parents? it's halloween night and all the teenage girls are home babysitting their younger siblings? come to think of it, michael's first victim was his own older sister, whom he killed while she was babysitting him. teen girls are really shouldering a labour burden here. maybe parentification is the true villain

side note: mike commits his first murder wearing a clown costume...which is never referenced again? his 'iconic' costume is a generic mask and wig and jumpsuit, when we coulda had a Killer Clown Michael Myers??? travesty

i like how the Final Girl and her friend casually smoke weed in her car. yeah she's an honor student and her friend is the sheriff's daughter. yeah they smoke weed. so what it's 1978

(to reiterate, mike is 21 and should be at the club. im not saying he shouldn't be rampaging, im saying it's sad that he broke out, tasted freedom for the first time in his life, and immediately snuck back into his childhood home to go rampaging. let's have a remake where he goes to a nightclub and has a few beers. maybe some slutty dancing. then rampage)

I recently bought an art book on Caspar David Friedrich, whose emotional work stuck with me since I first saw it in a museum years ago. Over the course of a few weeks, I read about his life and at the same time did studies/interpretations of many pieces. It was a really enjoyable and fulfilling project; here's a good lot of them together :)

I was happy to see many people enjoyed Friedrich's work+my interpretations while posting them individually. It took way too long, but I FINALLY set up a print shop for some of these + some other pieces for those who expressed interest. Thank you so much!

The members of the Deca are and shall remain as follows: Ushas, Magnus, Koschei, Theta Sigma, Millennia, Drax, Jelpax, Rallon, Mortimus, and Vansell. No new members shall be admitted and no current members shall leave of their own accord.

The Deca’s meetings will occur on the first morning of each week. Attendance is mandatory for all members.

No inter-Deca relationships. If one occurs, the participants must not allow their inevitable drama to interfere with the greater Deca friendship.

No one shall touch Ushas’s experiments without explicitly written consent.

The Deca must always protect each other, no matter the crime.

No guests are allowed at the Deca’s weekly meetings.

The Deca will not have a leader. If ever it is decided there should be one, a vote will be taken.

The Deca is prohibited from engaging with Epsilon Ensilden. If any member of the Deca encounters a situation involving him, they should run the other way.

All members must strive for academic excellence.

If any one member is struggling with a subject, another must tutor them.

No foul language during Deca meetings. That means you, Magnus.

Absolutely no food or drinks allowed in Borusa’s classroom.

Respect your fellow members and Borusa. THIS IS SERIOUS. HE WILL BAN US FROM HIS CLASSROOM. AT THE VERY LEAST PRETEND.

Mortimus cannot act as any other member’s therapist or analyze them unsolicited.

Borusa must never be informed of the true nature of the Deca’s meetings.

Follow Academy rules and do not get into trouble. This is clearly impossible. This rule will be changed as follows: do not drag the uninvolved down with you.

The Deca’s meeting time is precious and will not be wasted on boring and/or irrelevant conversation nor arguments.

All technological issues will be routed to Drax. If he is unavailable (suspended, expelled, etc.), Millennia may be substituted.

Never question Vansell’s secrets without exceptionally good reason. (He gets very weird about them.)

The Deca’s group chat is for genuine, Deca-related conversation only.

The Deca’s group chat will only be used during Academy hours. Do not message it in the middle of the night.

No slapping people because “they deserve it.” <- MILLENNIA

Each member of the Deca must remain in their chosen seats. To switch seats, they must request permission from the group.

Be respectful of everyone’s opinions and do not feel obligated to weigh in on everything. Theta Sigma’s passionate rants are the exception. Always tell him he is wrong.

Koschei may not use psychic abilities in Deca spaces.

Meeting minutes must be recorded during every meeting. If Ushas is unavailable for any reason, someone else must be appointed to take them.

Do not use Rallon as a scapegoat. Seriously. Stop doing it.

The Deca’s rules must be reviewed at least once per semester. All members will have the opportunity to propose and discuss changes.

Have fun—but not too much fun. This is an academic society above all else.
