For some reason this song title reminds me of The Man Who Fell To Earth in a way

Like partially it's because of the word 'subterranean' since Bowie's track Subterraneans from Low was initially written when he tried to do the soundtrack for tmwfte and other than that it's just the feeling of the song ig? I know it's not what it's really about, that was just my first association, it is really beautiful though (me and my piano teacher went on a tangent about Radiohead today so that's what I've been listening to all evening lol)

#tbh I've kinda been hesitant to listen to them before because I was just really annoyed by creep #and I found other of their more famous songs like karma police or high and dry alright but not too interesting harmonically #but recently I finally gave in and listened to kid a and it was so beautiful and weird #definitely a fan of the way they mix acoustic and electronic sounds #and the melodies!!!#I had to get used to thom yorke's voice for a bit but now that I listen to it I do like it #I love how our piano lesson conversations evolve because we were just looking at a strange satie piece #and then it reminded my teacher of everything in its right place #so of course we talked about radiohead #and he told me how it was the band that got him out of his four-year-long jazz hyperfixation #and then later we talked a bit about music studies which evolved into a conversation about math and the point of it #because he took calculus for a year as a second course when he was studying jazz #my piano teacher is the best really #radiohead #the man who fell to earth #tmwfte #david bowie #Spotify

i have done...an absolute deep dive into blues and folk music tonight. it was 100% one of those blink and three hours have passed type of deals. worth it though.

#be warned if you go into the tags i will explain how this all came up. educational but long!#so it started with two questions. mostly because i live in the ozarks i wanted to know and secondly i like music if you haven't caught on #(btw i am so giving you guys the quick and easy version if you are reading this at all)#anyway. the first question was 'why does the ozarks have such a country influence but also bluegrass but also blues but also folk but al-'#because while i grew up in stl i am now like. living living in the ozarks right? right. and i for sure can see how we are the like...#the little sibling of the appalachian mountains. and i thought it was just cause aw cute mini mountains (highlands people)#but instead its cause there were settlers from appalachia! which makes a ton of sense now seeing influences and culture etc etc #so we cleared up that. we know why the ozarks is the way it is (or at least part of it)#btw anyone who says branson is a “true reflection” of the ozarks is out of their damn minds.#that shit is tourist central and just drives me up the wall. they are playing a parody of themselves is the best way to describe it #caricature maybe??? point is. “h'yuck h'yuck we're the country jubilee!” is not uhhhh ozarks and never was?#like it was but they took it a step further. so. anyway #can you tell i'm fixated on this right now? moving on! question 2 was quite literally 'what genre is this song'#it's 'fault line' by black rebel motorcycle club (which i highly suggest everyone listen to)#but i was like hmmm very bluesy harmonica but just fingerpicking guitar so that's more folksy #so! i went on a deep dive of what technically considers blues blues and what folk is. and guess what! the ozarks play into this too #because! the thing is that the ozarks is weird. st louis is technically not in the ozarks but on the outskirts. and stl is influenced by...#the mississippi delta! therefore blues music which led to rock and roll etc #(that's a whole other tangent for another day on stl and blues and rock and roll)#but anyway it makes sense that once you have folks from stl area coming down to the ozarks then you also have that combo of...#mississippi delta and appalachia music. so then we go back to “fault line” right?#i have declared it folk mostly because it definitely doesn't follow traditional blues progression or call and response.#so anyway. deep dive tonight was basically what is this song's genre and how does that wrap into where i live!#which also. brmc is like...usually listed as a “rock” band from san francisco which hey! awesome.#but like. from the songs i've heard and especially causing me to do this deep dive...they do not strike me as a californian band #music is cool! regions are cool! culture is cool! i just like to see how it's all spread out ya know?#if you've read this far gold star! i hope you've learned something tonight from reading the ramblings of a fixated person #i'm rambling again aren't i

punk is cool as fuck and some people dont want to admit that they dont listen to it as sonically it might not be their thing so they try to insist that their definitely-not-punk favs are punk, and this does nothing but piss off punkheads some of which seem to also hate stuff like mcr or something and when hearing you like it insist that there’s so much better real punk out there . they’re fuelled by honestly pretty valid indignation at the false attributions of the other group, who in turn are fuelled by the insistence of superiority of this group, and really its two loud minorities within vast cultures of these different music tastes that are caught in some fucked up cycle and no one wants to acknowledge that you really dont have to like a song for genre, you can like a song just fucking because, and that there is so much potential for coolness and depth in pop n other genres thats just different from punk you know

and i have zero stakes in this but its so strange because youd think im just making people up but truly i have seen many examples of both because tumblr is a shit show

#weezer #rivers cuomo #brian bell #patrick wilson #scott shriner #OKAH HI CHAT #i’ve been thinking #this tag will be just a rant not really weezer related #yk laufey ?#i was listening to her song ‘letter to my 13 year old self’ and just started overthinking about myself when i was younger #i just think about my younger self and get so sad thinking about her; i wish i could’ve done more for her #i was a huge introvert and talking to anybody made me super super anxious; so much so that my teacher noticed and had me join a ‘social #emotional learning’ group where we spoke about low self esteem and how to raise it and everything like that #i only left it in 8th grade because i didn’t wanna keep missing class for it; but it made me so sad to think i thought so low of myself #i would wear hoodies all the time and jeans because i used to hate my body a lot #which is awful to do in socal heat!#i think it started because in my family i was always stereotyped as the fat one; yk how mexican families are? they called me gordita for #the longest time; which made me incredibly insecure and only in 10th grade did i start showing my arms 😭 IK ITS DUMB BUT ITS SO WEIRD #i still can’t do it entirely; i’ll wear shrugs and things like that because i still am insecure about my arms sometimes but ive been better #i only really had one friend but she had a different lunch; so i was alone for most of the time on the swings by myself or sitting at the #lunch tables alone waiting for lunch to end and this noon duty came to me a lot and would talk to me since she felt bad i was always alone #while everybody else played with each other ; and i don’t know why i just broke down thinking about how lonely i was at the time #i’d go to the school’s friendship room everyday after that because it was just a teacher who let kids come inside her room to play games if #they didn’t wanna be in the heat and soon i became friends w the teacher and she’d play uno with me everyday; mainly because the room was #relatively empty until they got loom bands! and i was an expert on loom bracelets so i would help others make them and that was a confidenc #e boost; i remember being proud of myself for socializing like that LOL #i just get sad thinking about that time; i like to think that if little Lyss saw me; she would be so proud because i have friends;#a boyfriend ; good grades ; and i’m well liked and regarded. i hope she’s proud of my progress socially because it was such a leap #i wish i could go back in time and tell her how much better things get and how she won’t be lonely forever #…and to not online date. definetly don’t do that one.

It's really weird when you know someone in a context different from how everybody else knows them so you look at them and you still kind of see that person they used to be

#this post is about the boy i dated my senior year who was so incredibly sweet tbh wouldnt be the person i am today if i hadnt met him #but he was so fucked up he had so many issues it was really hard so it didnt work out but i loved him and i think he loved me too #but hes in a moderately successful band now which i just found out about do i looked them up and theyre good #but its so weird because its like i know that when you were 17 you wanted to be an underwater welder #i helped you clean your room at your grandmas house because you were so sad you couldnt do it yourself #i ditched 5th period AP English to sit on the steps behind the auditorium and listen to you talk about whatever #you pushed me on the swings and we took the bus to the movie theater and you liked cherry wraps and you played me my favorite songs #i havent REALLY thought about that guy in years and we were only together MAYBE 6 months but its so weird what you remember about people #and especially how you remember how they made you feel because he made me feel so good like i was in control #all my previous relationships was me trying to desperately please someone who wouldnt do the same for me #and honestly a lot of my relationships since have been the same especially in college and with the one girl who honestly if she called me #today i would drop everything and go be with her again no questions because i cant get her out of my head #but stuff witj him was never ever like that it was so easy it was like breathing even though it ended messy i have 0 regrets #and its nice to know that things are going well for him because honestly he changed my life a little bit #the way i dont give a fuck now is something i learned from him #ill probably delete this later but you know
