Are yyou team green or black? And why?

team green, though I'm not in support of every green character (namely Otto though my opinion of him is complicated. I also have opinions on Aegon and his characterization that makes it even more complicated)

[I have only read bits and pieces of the book, so my opinion is based almost solely on the show. keep this in mind]

I'm team green for 3 big reasons. they're more complex, thought not perfect by any means, more morally "right", and are simply more my vibe when it comes to characters. now this is very simplified and not at all nuanced, so stick with me for a minute.

Firstly, they're more complex. the greens have very deep, detailed, and nuanced lives and stories that lead to them being very complex characters that can't be put into a box. Alicent was a child bride who had lost her mother young became a mother young and suffered at the hands of power and men all her life. her children were affected by this and the world they were forced to grow up in throughout their lives. even individually her kids are drastically different; aegon the child who was forced into a life he did not want and suffered due to his father neglect and mother pain. Helaena who was never understood and grew up treated like an oddity. Aemond who was never seen to his full potential, always ignored or looked over, angry throughout his life. each of them has strengths and weaknesses, flaws and benefits, they're imperfect but never completely horrid. they're also never simplified (not entirely, even when the plot and writers seek to simplify them) to the point that they put on a moral pedestal or made straight evil (i'd even argue that the attempts of the writer to oversimplify them as evil and in the wrong makes them 10x more fascinating). I find TB characters tended to miss the mark on that, always put in the moral light, not even allowed a moment to reflect on their actions, lives, or positions in any nuanced or meaningful way, so they always just feel dull. they're also out on a moral highground that they can never be budged from, which makes them harder to like and honestly, really boring. they get away with everything instead of being emotionally and morally nuanced.

secondly, they're more morally "right". I will never say that any of the greens are perfect, they are far from it (with the exception of Helaena and her kids, who have done literally nothing to anyone, but I digress). what I will say, 9/10 times there is some level of reasoning that has some level of reasoning. Alicent always tries to do whats best for everyone, all throughout the series she tried to do best by the court, the king, her children, the realm, and Rhaenyra. did she always succeed? no, but she always tried and her mistakes were almost always honest. I will say she held resentment towards Rhaenya, but honestly, I can't blame her. Rhaenyra's lies and behavior hurt Alicent over and over again so for her to be angry is expected.when it came to succession, Alicent backed Rhaenyra until it was made clear she and Daemon would be a threat to her children's lives and even than she held mercy for Rhaenyra. Aegon's drinking can be blamed on the abuse and neglect he suffered at Viserys, Otto, and Alicent's (though the abuse and neglect from his mother is insanely different and nuanced. she perpetuated her pain onto him because she couldn't heal herself. so I hesitate to call it abuse, cause its so much more complicated than that) hands. though nothing will justify his rape of Dyana, I personally think it was a bad add in on the writers part, and leave it at that. Aemonds rage after years of being ignored doesn't entirely justify what he did to luke, but he had reason for his cruelty after years of Luke (and jace tbh) being cruel just because they could. TB characters tend to do terrible things in response to either A. nothing B. their own terrible things. Daemon kills who he wants when he feels like it, even for stating facts. Rhaneyra will lie and hurt those around her to protect her bastard children. both of them conspire to protect themselves and allow themselves to be wed, really just cause. while there are times they have their reasons, its a lot less of the time, and typically the backing to their actions, is they were trying to unbury themselves from within their own graves. (to preface, I don't care about rhaenyra sleeping around, it doesn't bother me, but its the fact that she will hurt everyone around her to protect her lies, allowing a child to be maimed and people to be murdered)

thirdly, they're my vibe. I like morally complex character, who are, to be frank, pathetic. I like characters with complex trauma's and issues, who aren't perfect people but its not entirely their fault. I would much rather watch a whole show about alicent, a child bride who tries so hard to be a good wife, queen, and mother while not prepared for any such role. Aegon who is a boy with severe mommy and daddy issues, a drinking problem, a flawed past, and constantly wet eyes. Helaena an ignored girl who has suffered for no better reason then her family. and Aemond, a boy who was tormented, bullied, maimed, and made stronger by it at the cost of his compassion and emotional stability - over a nepo baby who was coddled by her father, her murderous husband with a knack for unneeded violence, and her similarly coddled children (the show boiled them down to this, in my opinion). one is simply more up my alley than the other. I want character that need to be dissected, who have suffered, who hurt me to look at.

also, team black created almost all of their own problems. seeing as the main source of contention had to do with Rhaenyra's kids being bastards, which was Rhaenyra's problem, which she caused, and kept digging and digging that grave (faking Laenors death just so she could marry daemon, turning the blame on aemond when luke maimed him furthering the divide amongst the house, trying to wed Helaena to Jace putting her in danger, trying to take the driftmark throne and killing Vaemond for a claim her sons did not have, etc,) till viserys's death, earns her a lot less pity from me. at the end of the day, her being a woman was only a needle in a haystack worth of problems she caused herself that hurt her claim. if she had just strived to create to connection with ancient and her kids, and didn't make herself look like a threat to everyone who lessened her claim (which alicents kids would be the first people to be taken out) alicent would have backed like she had all season and there would have been no war, maybe conflict, but no war.

theres also the effect of the fans on my opinion. I have faced more cruelty, terrible media analysis, and outright ableism/misogny/(blood and sexual based) purist ideology/etc. from the TB fans then I have ever witness by TG fans. TB fans have ruined almost all of the TB characters for me in more ways than I can count, so I will say I am very biased.

thats why I'm team green. as a whole they are simply more appealing, their stories are more interesting, demand more attention to detail and emotional understanding, and from my point of view were the "right" side to be on in the war (the war was wrong on both sides, but my chips lie in the favour of the greens).

i’d briefly like to talk about the “it was fine” dialogue option that happens the morning after gale’s Last Night Alive scene in act ii and about the fandom's general reaction to it.

gale is a character who evidently enjoys the occasional teasing. taking the piss out of your partner every once in a while can certainly be a way of showing affection. however, it is important to consider the context of the situation: what is at stake for him and his current emotional state, as well as what exactly had transpired between the two of them prior to said conversation.

gale: forgive me. these were already trying times before elminster delivered his missive. now, for me at least, they are potentially end times.

after he and tav had spent the night together and confessed their love to each other, gale is once again showing himself utterly vulnerable and is carefully asking them for reassurance.

gale: [..] i hope that night meant as much to you as it did to me.

gale: but you - you led me away from the edge.

gale: without your words, your touch... i fear i would have sought purpose and solace in that void. you reminded me what living can feel like.

he wants to check in with them, after both of them have shared something tender and very intimate, something he might even consider life-altering.

gale: we didn't just make love. we bonded, body and soul. i got lost in you.

it’s not even about gale “not being able to read social cues” and “not recognizing the fact that it was meant in jest.” in fact, i’d argue it is a rather tone-deaf, inconsiderate response and just genuinely a REALLY BAD TIME to joke at your partner's expense when they are actively baring their feelings to you and are asking you for reassurance.

i have seen people write off his reaction as “unwarranted” or “overtly dramatic” but in my humble opinion, it is pretty understandable given the nature of their conversation and what he is asking of them. it's also sad how there seems to be a general pattern of gale's emotions and boundaries getting played off as a joke, while other companions get shown the courtesy of thorough analysis/understanding. he is proud of his skill as a lover and the fact that he was able to bring them pleasure, yet his inquiry is less about him wanting tav to stroke his ego and more about him, once again, asking if you indeed share the same feelings for each other… after the emotional high has now passed.

gale has an ever-present need for clarity in his relationships, very likely due to the fact that this was something he couldn’t request of mystra. he might appear more sensitive in that regard compared to the other companions. he doesn’t want to take himself too seriously, but this still often clashes with his general feeling of inadequacy. where he is able to take criticism as long as it isn’t related to his performance, overall prowess and usefulness.

yes, his response is passive-aggressive and yes, he IS obviously hurt by what tav said. yet merely repeating “it was fine” in response to a heartfelt, genuine question could’ve as well been interpreted in that manner. if tav does clarify that they have only been joking, he apologizes to them instead. otherwise his dialogue remains the same, albeit said in a more embarrassed & awkward tone.

gale is a character who is dealing with deep-rooted self-worth issues and yet that doesn’t mean that he wants to be handled with kid gloves, far from it. he craves a relationship in which his emotional needs are recognized, respected and cared for, where he can be unabashedly open and vulnerable without facing ridicule nor pity for it. and he is more than willing to give the same in return.

Someone To Rely On

Sherlock never trusted anyone, but now, barely without his knowledge, he trusted five people. Five! It was outrageous.

Despite his snarl and distaste for his brother’s involvement in his life, Sherlock trusted Mycroft nearly most of all. Nearly.

Whenever Sherlock ended up in a drug den, needed transport, or rescue from Serbian prisons, Mycroft was the one to trust, and he never failed to deliver.

Behind Mycroft in line, there had been Lestrade. Sherlock could always count on the DI lacking the brains to solve a difficult case, then turn to the world's only consulting detective for help.

His beloved landlady was dearer to Sherlock than his own mother. Her biscuits and cakes were the best in the land, perhaps even the world, and he didn’t mind her fussing all that much. Not that he’d ever admit it, of course. Besides, she loved their bickering just as much as he did.

Molly, next. His cheeks blushed when he thought about how over the years, he has exploited her crush on him to the fullest. Crowding in on her to let her get a whiff of his cologne. Lowering his voice when he wanted to get access to some interesting body parts. 

The only times he has touched her, though, were to apologise for his behaviour and thanking her for helping him faking his own death. Both kisses were full of regret on his part, and he still wished he hadn’t needed to bestow them on her.

And then there was the enigma, the soldier, the doctor, the man with as many trust issues as Sherlock. John Hamish Watson. The most loyal man he has ever met. A man who actually killed another man to save Sherlock from his own stupidity mere hours after they’d met. He was admittedly an awful cabbie, but the truth remains; John had not hesitated when he fired that gun. His hand was steady, his shot perfectly aimed. It took Sherlock an embarrassing amount of time to realise who the hitman was, but when he did, he was defenceless.

After years of living together, Sherlock knew for a fact that John was the puzzle that would always remain unsolved. That thought appeared in his mind numerous times a week. Sometimes, numerous times a day.

On Mycroft’s last visit, he called John a Living Weapon. When Sherlock had insisted on an explanation, his older brother had rolled his eyes in exasperation.

“You are totally blind when it comes to Doctor Watson, brother mine.”

Sherlock waved a hand, indicating for his pompous arse of a brother to continue.

“How loathe I am to state the obvious, there is…how shall I put it…the effective way he disposed of Mr. Hope. I don’t think I need to go into details of every time the good doctor has kept you from harm’s way, for which I am most grateful. Be it his hands, his fists, his arms in general, or illegal firearms, he is there for you, Sherlock. Always. From day one. I am certain he would have a go at me if he thought I was a threat to your life.”

Mycroft looked smug after this delivery, which Sherlock didn’t notice. He was so deep in thought, he failed to perceive that his brother left the flat. When he returned from his Mind Palace, two hours had passed.

He had created a new room for John in his mind, using all the images Mycroft planted there while he listed every way John had saved him over the years. He used less than three seconds to name it.

how would having buck/eddie be more powerful?? yeah i get that having a queer latino man would be awesome (and i support whatever direction they want to go in w eddie’s sexuality bc i think there’s a lot of options there) but it’s kind of embarrassing that people are making buck’s entire coming out about a ship. a bisexual man coming out in later life has his queer realisation with someone who also came out in later life, they’re both in a line of work that’s pretty “boys club”-esque (as shown by hen and chimney begins episodes, and it’s a shame that hen’s queer identity isn’t recognised enough in the fandom). Buck’s storyline is just as meaningful with or without an endgame of buddie. Tbh I hope they make eddie queer as well but don’t put buddie together because the only way they get together without violating workplace relationship rules is if one of them leaves, which is arguably less meaningful because we lose a main character. Sorry if this comes off as rude but y’all have had your shipping brains on for too long because you can’t recognise how much this means to bisexual fans and it’s honestly exhausting.

Okay gonna address that bottom part first just to clarify real quick that I am in fact a bisexual fan 🫡 so that assumption was 😐

At no point did I make buck being bi just about his ships, in almost every ask about bucktommy or buddie me and most of the anons are constantly reiterating how much we value canon bi buck even if it wasn’t EXACTLY how we wanted it

At no point in any of my previous posts nor in the ask response that I’m assuming you sent this ask about did I imply that bucks coming out arc is of more value when connected to buddie

The post/ask was about bucktommy as endgame or buddie as endgame and my opinion on it and my opinion is that it would be more powerful and meaningful to have buddie

To answer your question on why- buddie yes have a lot of in common with bucktommy but the thing that makes it for me is that

1. Queer slowburns done right are practically unheard of in the media

2. As you’ve touched on yeah Eddie is a Latino man but also we got to see Eddie grow as a person get into therapy, deal with his issues with his father and being a man of the house, be a widow and raise a son

Can you name a single character who we see on screen go from this all American soldier perfect boy to seeing him breakdown, get therapy understand comp het, fall in love with his best friend and navigate how he balances coming out in his 30s while having very mixed and complicated feelings about his dead wife who I genuinely believe he loved in some way but also having to come out to his son who is bound to have his own complicated feelings about it?

3. We’ve had so much history and so many powerful scenes between these two that to me and many of the fandom nothing can measure up to, like if they do become canon like it would mean a lot because their story and scenes over the years have been so amazing and powerful

4. Theyd be listening to what the fans want/have wanted for years!! That’s huge because so many shows never make characters queer because the fans saw them as it or shipped them and when on those rare occasions they do they take the easy way out and make one half of them queer to get fans to shut up (cough cough a certain cw show)

Also I never trashed on bucktommy because I don’t ick someones yum all I said is i agree and I don’t get those who want them to be endgame and I do make jokes about my own shipping goggles but seriously I am self aware and I do keep being VERY conscious that some may misunderstand me as not valuing bi buck just because we didn’t get buddie when that couldn’t be further from the truth

What you’re seeing from ARMYs and the other HYBE fandoms you mentioned, but especially ARMYs, is cope.

It’s pretty easy to spot after a while of seeing how k-pop stans selectively apply reason, or examine bias and their own motives. K-pop is the land of make-believe after all.

Frankly, NewJeans’ fans aren’t much better, but at least following the injunction results, they have more clarity in all the ways HYBE is wrong and Min Heejin is right, and so, more vindicating claims.

At least for now. The criminal investigation is still ongoing and Korean police are notoriously partial towards conglomerates somehow even more than the courts are. Which means leaving the facts of the matter aside, it’s already more of an uphill battle for Min Heejin from here on out. Given the embarrassing loss HYBE has suffered this past week, it’s possible they work to leave nothing to chance with the criminal case and apply pressure on the police where they can, ahead of time. And I say that because that’s just how conglomerates move in Korea.

It’s a bit fascinating how things have ended up this way, but HYBE has played their hand so badly that they now have almost as much to lose as Min Heejin. Which ups the stakes.

And that’s why another option of how things play out, is that they might attempt to leapfrog the criminal trial process altogether by voting to remove MHJ during the June 10th general meeting. It would technically violate the injunction and guarantee dragging out this mess till the end of the year given it will result in countersuits from MHJ, but it will help HYBE save face to their sycophants including ARMYs and other self-righteously aggrieved HYBE fandoms.

I suspect the impact to NewJeans will only be more horrific than it’s already been, unfortunately. ARMYs seem to have become personally invested in the perceived demise of NewJeans and success of Le Sserafim and ILLIT, and there’s no world in which that’s a good thing for any of those three groups.

The next couple comebacks for all HYBE’s girl groups (including even Fromis 9 going off the funeral wreaths) will be fraught with intense infighting, scandal and pocket-watching from the aggrieved fandoms. Basically, Tokkis can expect the sticky unease of being the only child endowed with a flush trust fund from your paternal grandmother, stuck in the middle of your parents’ nasty divorce.

It’s just bad vibes, and immature adults over-motivated to be malicious and cruel.

BTS meanwhile, (starting with Jin) will be fine. Le Sserafim’s next comeback will be a banger, as will ILLIT’s, and NewJeans will absolutely kill it at Tokyo Dome with Supernatural.

What fandom at large is using it for is ‘man who can’t do anything himself, is weak, bends to others, reads porn, etc’. Aka they’re taking his actual characteristics and inflating them into him heing a ‘loser’

Why i would call him a ‘loser’ in ways is his actual characteristics and is actually not used as an insult (though ‘loser’ is often obviously considered an insult so not everyone will understand that i’m not using it that way)

Reads and quotes silly romances/porn books (and i will clarify romance her because when he quotes it freely of his own choice, it’s dorky romance lines, not porn lines)

Gets embarrassed after just having to say the words ‘i love you’ out loud

Is a super dork in his friendship with gai. Has eating competitions, silly races, rock paper scissors, etc.

Oinks with Tonton (anime only obv but it’s such a dork/loser thing to do and i love him for it)

These are all things that might make a person roll their eyes at him and slap a hand over their face, but are actually not negative traits. They’re actually kinda adorable

personally, i felt so upset and disappointed when the news broke :( it was bad enough it was gonna be an ot5 comeback, but when it was revealed it was because sm changed their pre planned schedule it made me angry. i understand that winwin has other important activities and if it was his own choice to sit this one out, i would have respected his decision and happily supported the other five members. but the fact that he went out of his way to ensure his schedule would align and they couldn’t even respect that.. it made me really sad. as far as we know, there is no reason this comeback had to me moved up. they just did it. and i’ve never seen anything like it, how can a company not respect their artist in this incredibly basic way? it’s heartbreaking.

i wish winwin stays in nct because i truly love him and i love his friendships in the group and his contributions etc etc but stuff like this makes me wish more and more than he only does what he needs to do for his career and happiness, regardless of how we feel. these transgressions are too serious in my opinion, to the point that when wayv were promoting on my youth during the last few months of 2023 as a proper group it almost felt like a fever dream. a full group promoting a comeback together should not be a rare occurrence. it’s so so so sad and wayv as a whole deserve so much better. the fact that i felt absolutely no excitement over this cb and haven’t even looked at concept pics or listened to any songs says so much. i will eventually, but it hurts right now :( i will need some time to get over this. not the fault of any of the members, of course!!! will always love and wish then the best.

moreover i hate that this feeds into the idea that winwin doesn’t care about his group. it’s such a common sentiment in the (toxic/misinformed/immature) parts of the fandom. if anything, winwin’s actions and deliberate desire to partake in the cb tells us the EXACT OPPOSITE. if he didn’t care, he clearly wouldn’t have gone through the trouble. like you’ve said, it’s causing more issues for him. so why would he do it if he didn’t care? i’m glad some clarifying posts went semi viral, and there was a decent amount of outrage. rightfully so.

as for how i do it….. my friend,, it’s not easy. to be honest, i have had periods where it wasn’t good for me (last summer, for example, i had so much free time to dedicate to kpop and it started affecting my mental health when i saw my fav neglected and disrespected all the time). thankfully i am better now and have been for a long time, it’s really embarrassing to admit kpop can mess one up like that lol but i hope people can be honest about how they feel since it’s very real in my experience. i try not too think about it too much and keep busy with other things, i took a huge step back from stan twitter and i only follow a few yunqi accs who post updates/positivity and don’t engage in fanwars and spread aggression across the internet. as for his company, it’s a bit more complicated. i feel as though his potential has never been fully realized, which is sad for a seasoned idol so many years into his career. but it also gives him so much space to grow, every now and then i am so surprised by his incredible work in other areas, because he was held back so much. i am so glad there are people who recognize his potential <3

i also try to remember that even though i love nct and its a huge part of my life, it’s just music and no matter what happens things will be alright. we will always have the good times and memories and that makes me feel better when i get upset. lastly, i learned to primarily focus on my own friends and my own thoughts. just last night, i told a friend i love winwin the most and she said she likes him and that he suits me as a bias. all my irl kpop stan friends have been nothing but supportive and sweet. and in my own head, winwin is the best, i dont have to think about his company and random people online to hold that opinion, and at the end of the day my thoughts are the only ones that really matter when it comes to this.

I purposely ignore/put down Sans's importance in anything, it could be out of spite? hatred? (I do not have the time for hate I have to draw) or simply for entertainment.

Spoiler: it's for entertainment, a majority of stuff is about Sans and I find it a lot of fun to go out of my way to remove him from concepts/ideas/theories. I've also found this very interesting because it forces me to look elsewhere for concepts/theories and see things I hadn't before because he was in the way. (I don't mean this maliciously)

Contradicting or nonsense headcanons are loads of fun, are mine better? Of course to me they are, that's why they're on my blog, that's why I post about them. Are there headcanons I don't like? Yes, a lot of them, I used to complain about them a lot in the past, but lately I'm wasting my time more efficiently by searching for stuff in Undertale for the 100th time that's not actually there.

I'm not 100% canon. Do I want to be canon? Absolutely not. Do I use canon to bully people? YES. IF YOU THINK SANS LIKES PUNS THINK AGAIN. DO YOU THINK SANS IS STRESSED WITH BILLS? HAHA JOKES ON YOU. WHAT? HE HAS NIGHTMARES? NOT ON MY WATCH.

I want to enjoy my Papyrus focused content in my Papyrus focused corner is that too much to ask? (It is)

ANYWAY. To answer the original grievance:

Undyne stays the night? (It is not confirmed if it's more than one night) at Papyrus's house, and confirms that he doesn't sleep, that specifically: He doesn't know HOW to sleep. Does this mean that he NEEDS Sans to read to him to sleep?

No. Because it's not mentioned, it could have easily been brought up at this point since Sans already puts himself in some calls already, but it's not. The only one who brings it up is Sans when he's alone, where no one else can argue it or confirm it. What if it's too embarrassing to say in front of Papyrus? Well I mean he already teases him for the junior jumble thing so it wouldn't be out of line for Sans to tease him about that, too.

BUT, if Sans reads Papyrus a bedtime story, why doesn't he remark on the fact Papyrus has nightmares? Wouldn't he have to read to him every time a nightmare woke him up? But again, Papyrus also mentions that he's just too busy to sleep, no mention of needing to sleep, or reading a bedtime story, Papyrus also doesn't bring up Sans reading, or reading to him in any context.

Anyway to argue the "Sans doesn't have nightmares" statement, I'll refer back to my thing of 'removing Sans from ideas because it's funny'. Hahahaha.

But also there's no proof Sans has nightmares, AND WHILE I UNDERSTAND THE HEADCANON- I refuse it because it's funny, but also because Papyrus DESERVES nightmares as a trait and it's unfair to take that away from him.

Id say m1levens? A lot of them are young fans and ik what that's like (i was really fucking annoying about my notps when i was younger, my longer lasting moots definitly remember that even if it was on my old acc) so it's not like i hate them or anything (and tumblr is much more peaceful once u learn to let stuff wash over u + filter tags and use the block button) but as a sapphic, a lot of them give me the ick, the way they talk about not just Will/byler but even just El (a female character).

This one is tricky bc comics are fucking weird when it comes to canon and characterisation but tbh i feel like Damian (Wayne, Robin, dc) has gotten past the "im the REAL son, im the BLOOD son, the ACTUAL heir" bs. Yes, he's still a lil shit and still has that "im better than you" attitude with everyone and esp his siblings but he Has matured and weve seen him refer to the other batkids as siblings on more than one occasion (he's even used their names as aliases when going undercover, which is significant bc the first time he had to do that he picked Bruce as his name and it was a whole thing). So i always get 2nd hand embarrassment + general annoyance when i see socmed fics/fake twt posts that make his url smth like "therealwayneheir" "waynesbloodson" "truewayne", etc. I wanna clarify that i love thos fics/posts, it's just the Damian url part that i always hate with a burning passion😭!

There's two that i wanna say Really badly but ill keep them to myself bc of x and y reasons. Instead ill say the next one that comes to mind.

Rei (from bnha) as a pure perfect woman and mother. You can acknowledge that she was a victim of domestic abuse while still acknowledging and showing some nuance to the fact that she BURNED her son's face and could have handled Touya's childhood better (not in the sense that it's her fault but in the sense that children come first).

I think this fandom has convinced itself that Harry is always long winded and vague when he is not (that his humour regularly goes over their heads makes this idea even more irritating), they just don’t listen to what he says and act dumb when he gives an answer that doesn’t suit them. Harry said he doesn’t like saying what his songs are about and answers on such matters have tried to give people the space to interpret songs on their own terms, but he has been abundantly clear. Also, the idea that sweet creature or any song is about Louis is absurd to anyone… that he even had to clarify that was embarrassing.

He can often be long-winded and vague, that's undeniable. But I agree he's not always like that and that often "fans" don't get his humour. I'm not saying they have to like his humour or think it's funny, but the fact that they pretend not to know he's being humorous when it's convenient for them is just annoying.

And yes, I was cringing for that terrible interviewer who thought it was an appropriate question to ask him. He was clearly irritated.

Fun fact and a little technique I always used while watching TMNT 2012. The Leorai thing said or spoken or addressed or worked in as a ship happens in only like 5 or 6 episodes during the entire series. Mainly in the first two seasons before they find out she is Splinter's daughter and in Broken Foot and two very brief moments in season 5, (Karai was shown to be clearly confused and uncomfortable in one of those two moments meaning she was mostly messing around and there was no romance from her side unless to fool or trick the blue idiot.)

Anyways, my point being, every other moment between Leo and Karai or of one worrying about the other is never specified to be romantic. For example, Leo worrying about her and having an urge to save her and stuff? He never seems to display it as romantic, only as a caring person .

So basically, whenever I watch the series, I always ignore the actual ship like moments and chalk them up to obliviousness of idiotic teenage turtle and deceptive kunoiche and almost all the moments afterward don't focus on romance at all, it was just what viewers thought up because of how the series was set up. So I see them as one sibling worrying about another. And fun fact, it always works bcoz like I said, almost none of them specify or display it like it's romantic. Even those little moments where he is thinking about her too much don't seem romantic and only Raph sasses about it in that way, but not Leo's words are oriented like that and sass is basically Raph's thing.

So while most of the fandom feels uncomfortable about so many such moments, I instead got to genuinely enjoy them all tok because I always watched them with the thoughts and concept in mind that they consider each other as siblings and Leo was worrying about his big sister like the good brother he is.

If you rewatch the series, you'll get what I mean. After they find out the truth, the romantic undertone is only clarified in 4 or 5 moments, all of which happen to be brief and ignorable.

Oooooooo this is actually a pretty good way to handle those awkward moments!!

Personally for me whenever I think and see those moments I like to imagine that instead of a supposed romantic subplot, it's instead just them respecting and admiring each other and their skills. I mean in the show Karai is a pretty skilled ninja especially with a blade, she's basically unbeatable in this area. Then she meets this blue turtle who's a goody two shoes and she's basically like Lmfao fr? and doesn't take him seriously till he actually gives her a run for her money and she's like Well God damn maybe he's not a complete novice. The same thing can be applied to Leo since he too is considered incredibly skilled with the blade and then he meets Karai who's able to keep up with him and he's instantly intrigued by it. It could also work this way with the whole Raph teasing him thing because Leo admires her and being teased about it would make anyone irritable or embarrassed. And the training session scene would work with it too since Leo admires her so much he wants to impress her and earn her respect. So when he gets his shell kicked and she laughs at him making him blush it could very well be embarrassment.

At least that's how I picture it personally.

With respect to the Thai BL Industry,...I believe, everything and anything that an actor or even a maker does is scrutinised to a whole another level that it becomes extremely embarrassing for the BL fandom.

I can quote several examples at the cost of getting ridiculed,...but I don't care about toxic fans or their opinions, because it's just bullshit.

Time and again I've seen BL fans being critical of Krist (of "SOTUS"fame) for no reason. If being a celebrity means that you own them,...then that's a wrong perception to have. That man was asked by a rude fan if he's gay,...and he was repeatedly asked about his sexual orientation, which is none of anyone's fucking business. And when he reacted negatively,...everyone came down heavily on him,...calling him homophobic and cooking their own stories to shown in a bad light. His on-screen partner too was ridiculed for making some insensitive statement, because of which Krist had to come in front of the media and make a public apology. Fine,...what Singto said was totally unacceptable,..but I bet,...he is one of the most finest man in the industry, and deserved to be treated better for something he didn't do intentionally.

Then came poor Godt (Pha of "2 Moons" fame). I'm honestly not biased,...but I have huge respect and admiration for the whole cast of the first installment of 2 Moons franchise. But one of the lead pair, till date,...is criticised for being homophobic,...when in reality, none of the toxic fans know what exactly conspired between the actors and the production company. And with respect to the BTS that was released,...it's absolutely inane to imagine things when one knows nothing about it. Had Godt been homophobic,...he wouldn't have acted in a BL advertisement post the success of "2 Moons". BUT NO! When stupid fans start to hate someone,...the become blind, and insane at the same time.

Same shit happened with Mean,...when he reportedly gave an interview to a Thai tabloid. Now,...unless one can understand a language, or is a native-speaker of a certain language,...one shouldn't do the guess-work, and I bet,...Mean might have said nothing about wanting to work in the BL industry for money. I believe,...something might have lost in translation,...or, there is a 100% possibility of toxic fans purposely trying to twist his words to get him cancelled.

Then comes the whole fuckery that happened with respect to New's girlfriend, Bright's girlfriend, and Gulf's girlfriend. I mean,...do such fans that spread hatred, and lies, have no other business other than to poke their nose in other's bloody business? Why do these poor actors have to seek apology for something they have either not done, or perhaps done without any intention to hurt anyone? Why are toxic BL fans so much interested in the girlfriends of the Actors?

Mew is still trolled by toxic fans that call themselves the supporter of his now assumed ex. In fact,...the toxicity related to him launching his own business went to such an extent that he was criticised of plagiarism, leading which he had to hold a press-con to clarify things, which I believe is first of it's kind in BL history.

Joong Archen (Ming of "2 Moons" fame) replied to his IG story at the very beginning of his career, that he is a real man and not gay. Now,...that didn't go down well with me, but he apologised to his fans after getting reprimanded by the great "Motive Village". And that's now is a thing of the past,...and he's now a part of GMMTV universe.

And when Director. Aam Anusorn decided to make a series out of his own experience with "Motive Village",...I came across several comments online that called him a 'Drama Queen' who has an issue with everything that happens within the industry.

Recently,...one of Earth Pirapat's fan was trying to be rude or abusive to him on IG. Thankfully that guy gave back a befitting reply, and earned accolades. I wish all BL actors were like him and stop tolerating bullshit from fans.

And now with "KinnPorsche" being aired,...fandom has started to started to scrutinise every single move in the series, comparing it with the book,...and questioning the professionalism of the three excellent Directors involved in the making of the series.

As an Asian myself, I do know that "Respect" is a huge part of the Asian culture, to the extent that one is told to sacrifice his peace-of-mind, if it earns him a position in the good-books of the other. But this logic is not only ridiculous,...but in this day and age,...it's impossible to bake the cake, and eat it too. One cannot reach the echelons of success,...without burning a few bridges. And if it means doing away with toxicity,...so be it.

So,...my question to you is,...

Are BL fans slowly and gradually turning into toxic K-netizens that find mistakes in every move that a celebrity makes?

Why do you think a BL actor puts up with so much shit, despite the fact that many a times they haven't done anything even remotely wrong?

Some BL fans are sasaengs, and it’s a problem

I honestly don't really want to get into this because I try to be positive here on this blog and frankly, protect myself by not thinking about the terrible side of fandom, in general. I’ve done this since I was a child and first had a celebrity crush and then realized how dirty and objectified it made me feel for doing that to them. My stomach gets kinda queasy thinking about it. 

The proprietary ownership of celebrity is a grave social issue that speaks not just to the trauma it inflicts on the celebrity victims but the seriously damaged psyche and mental health of the perpetrators. And I use the words victim and perpetrator intentionally. 

If you are trolling celebrities, you are a predator who is culpable. Saying a celebrity “deserves it” because they became a celebrity is like saying a woman “deserved to be raped” because she wore a short skirt. Don’t buy into that patriarchal mentality, okay? This is victim blaming. 

However, the demographics do trouble me, A LOT, particularly around sasaeng behavior.

Which is what I would call these (so called) BL fans. Just another kind of sasaeng. 

Sasaeng fans are, IMHO, actually unhinged, unhealthy, and mentally corroded. But they are demographically different from the stalker/killer fans celebrities also get (mostly in other parts of the world) who usually (but not always) fit the same profile demos as serial killers and sexual predators. On a BASIC level the first tends to be female 13-23, the second male 33-63).

I've been thinking about a white paper on this for a few years now, ever since I dipped my toe into Kpop and then RAN THE FUCK AWAY. But honestly? I don’t want them targeting and coming after me.

Now to, sort of, maybe not, answer your questions:

1. Are BL fans slowly and gradually turning into toxic K-netizens that find mistakes in every move that a celebrity makes?

Yes. 

2. Why do you think a BL actor puts up with so much shit, despite the fact that many a times they haven't done anything even remotely wrong? 

Social conditioning, management/studio pressure, morality and behavioral contract clauses, and the deep desire/need to be liked that is endemic to the type of personality that pursues celebrity status as a career path. 

3. Are BL actors at the mercy of rich toxic fans that shower them with gifts, and cash if things go as per their way?

Maybe? I think less so than some of the other pressures named above, though. 

So I have some, (pretty minor) celebrity friends, but they still get tribute and we talk about it. There is genuine gratitude for the fact that someone thought of them and likes them enough to gift them something, particularly if it is genuinely thoughtful and shows understanding of said celebrity’s taste. (More on this topic here.) 

However, if it’s too on the nose it comes with attached discomfort because that screams stalker. There’s also the off-putting proprietary nature of “I know you so well really this gift is about me and my knowledge of you.” 

Gifting culture is different in different parts of the world. So I am not confident on attached social obligations in places like Thailand.  

Also, very few celebrities understand the underlying psychology going on there with the fan. That these gifts tend to spring from a deep desire to be “remembered by the celebrity” which is often also the wellspring of sasaeng behaviors. 

And then that is connected to social bragging rights with other fans.

Do you see that? I gave him that! Look he talked about it. That means he talked about me. He’s remembering me. 

Do you see how sad he is because of a negative comment I made? Well at least he’s thinking about me. I was obviously right about him. Do you see how scared he is when I make those calls to his hotel room on his Live? That’s ME. I did that, I have power in our relationship. We have a relationship. 

You know what I’d do? (Given autonomy and no contract obligations, of course.) Just stop doing whatever I’m doing in that moment. Blame the sasangs, end the Live. Shut down comments. Leave the stage. 

Sadly, most of the time, celebrities simply can not do that, though. Or they’re too nice and don’t want the “good” fans to suffer. 

But look, this is a problem internal to fandom. So I’d sick the good fans onto the bad ones, by taking the toy away and explaining exactly why everyone is losing access. Deny them the attention they crave. 

I get that this is simplistic and not a solution, but I think the celebrity has the right to immediately protect themself, mentally and emotionally (as well as physically). 

(Honestly, I’m really intersted in seeing how GOT7 behaves going forward. especially Mark. They are major idols who now have the autonomy to actually express how they really feel when confronted with this kind of behavior.) 

4. How far and how deep do you think the cancel culture has started to spread in the BL industry? 

Too far. 

Cancel culture absolutely terrifies me on a deep psychological level. There are so many scales and specturms of nuance that outsiders (and fans are OUTSIDERS) do not have access to. It’s the opposite of realizing that we exist in a morally grey world. It’s a manifestation of puerile and underdeveloped minds incapable of comprehending complexity or practicing empathy. It’s the rotted maggot-ridden wound of a conflicted culture sliced open by selfish behavior. 

Oh dear, I’m getting poetical, I should stop now. 

Take Joon for example. He’s half Turkish. Have you any idea, if you didn’t grow up in such a household, how unbelievably toxic most Turkish masculinity is? I’m shocked he was allowed to do a BL at all. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s estranged from some of his family because of it. What if he HAD to say something like that to protect himself from his home environment? Or because he was raised that way? Should he have answered that question at all? Of course not. But he was what, 18 at the time? How many stupid choices did you make at 18? I’ll wait. You list them off. 

But let’s be honest here, HE SHOULD NEVER HAD BEEN ASKED THE QUESTION in the first place. 

HOW DARE any fan ask a celebrity about their sexual orientation or identity. HOW DARE THEY.

Sometimes, I do like the origin story of his scar because nature can be ruthless. However, Halsin explains its origin with obvious embarrassment, as if he expects the PC to laugh at him. When he reveals his trauma about his drow captors, the mood is completely different, whereas with the shebear tale, his behavior encourages the players to be amused. Silly him! A 350 yo druid without battle scars! Instead a bear in heat wanted him! The fact it was a sexual assault isn't acknowledged at all.

I think that's a lot of the problem- that it's presented as a joke. Which I wouldn't mind if it was the only time Halsin was used for that kind of humor, but. It isn't.

Same with the chimera. Two anecdotes focused on sex with animals used to make the players laugh and/or shock them.

The chimera... I still find it hilarious, but the fandom is so exhausting about it. I mean it's pretty clear to see why it happened. Dragons are sentient, one of the heads is a dragon, therefore his writer thought "oh, chimeras are sentient." Especially so given the whole "Speak With Animals leads to you having perfectly coherent conversations with animals that show animals to be fully sentient" deal. And yet everyone uses it as 'proof' he was actually fucking Tusk the boar or what have you. If Druids can wildshape into owlbears, which are monstrosities (meaning that either wildshape works for monstrosities or owlbears are beasts in BG3) then I see no reason why chimeras can't be sentient, but here we are.

I'll even admit the squirrel in his romance scene annoys me a lot. The poor fella is fine if Halsin fucks the PC wood elf style, but they're so traumatized they turn grey if the PC decides it's bear time. So the bear option truly feels like a joke compared to the wood elf one. I love it because I have a lot of hc about his wildshape, but for anyone playing the game casually, it's a funny scene instead of a touching, emotional moment.

We don't see the squirrel turn grey, just Minsc referencing it later, and that banter does play no matter which form the player romanced Halsin in. However, I do fully agree about wishing the bear scene focused more on how it's a "I accept you as you are, including the things you see as flaws' moment. That's how I always play it- it may be a funny scene but it's a lot more than just a joke to me. It's one of the few chances I get in this game to show Halsin my character finds him perfect just the way he is.

I don't understand why they chose to write repeatedly tasteless jokes about animals and sex the second Halsin was involved. Antis use these anecdotes to claim Halsin is an evil sex pest and a one-dimensional thirst add on all the time.

Isn't it exhausting? The antis go digging for random lines and then post them devoid of context to yell SEE SEE SEE THIS PROVES I WAS RIGHT! I don't like all the jokes but they don't prove he's a sex pest or one dimensional.

Sidenote, I think part of the reason also that I sideeye the she shebear story is related to how Halsin's sexual abuse was presented before patch 5. Before patch 5, you couldn't ask Halsin about what happened in the Underdark hardly at all, and the scene ended with him saying he never learned what came of his hosts and etc. So with that presentation, the inability to talk about it, and the devnote saying "recounting an episode from a lively youth. Neither bragging nor ashamed" (emphasis mine) a lot of people felt Halsin's Underdark trauma was also being presented as another joke. Thankfully patch 5's added dialogue clarified it wasn't a joke (which is the reason we all wanted it changed, we needed that clarity), but for many of us who were there at the start, it continued to leave a sour taste in our mouths. Which I think added to me being very :/ about the scars sometimes, because it seems like yet another situation where Halsin being in effect sexually assaulted wasn't treated as seriously as it should have been. I love 99% of the writing for Halsin but the bear story is one of the rare moments that misses the mark.

I miss the early version of Halsin's scar origin story where it was from a battle (very likely the Druids vs Ketheric fight) instead of from a shebear.

It's not that I hate the shebear version, really, it's just... out of place, and it starts getting weird if you happen to know about bear mating habits in real life. If it was used to confirm werebear Halsin and that bear was the one to turn him, I'd be 100% cool, but... I don't know, sometimes (and this is very dependent on my mood), it just feels... uncomfortable sometimes? IDK. And keeping the scars as being from a battle instead of a bear attempting to, in effect, sexually assault him feels... nicer/more empathetic to his character if that makes sense.

Summary: “How long do you think we can do this?” Jake wonders aloud.

Make the tension last? Bradley silently guesses. Stick to our respective sides of the bed? Pretend the fact that we took off across state lines, just the two of us, is something we can go forever without acknowledging?

They’re too tired to care—that’s the lie they tell themselves. They drove all this way (as far as they could on the gas in Bradley’s tank, stopping twice to refuel) and the motel is barely that, just a sad strip of rooms at a lonesome Nevada truck stop. There’s no upgrade to charm, wheedle, or argue their way into, no alternative lodgings that they passed on their last hour of cutting through the desert, leaving a plume of dust in their wake. What they get is what they have: this one outdated room. Within it, this one outdated bed.

But they’re too tired to care. Bradley doesn’t care as he uses the orange-tiled bathroom first, or as he surrenders it to Jake, their warm, exhausted bodies passing too close in the doorway while Bradley mumbles, “Your turn.” He doesn’t care when he stakes out the far side of the bed and presses his face into the pillowcase to find it has the dense, artificial-rose scent of his grandparents’ house. When Jake returns from the bathroom, yawning in boxers and a t-shirt, and Bradley aggressively avoids eye contact, it's because he doesn’t care. Jake lifts the sheet and slips in beside him. The bed seems even smaller now that they’re both horizontal.

Every part of this room is old-fashioned, including the lack of TV. Some background noise would be great right now, Bradley thinks, just to drown out the soft sound of Jake shifting to get comfortable. He jumps when the dilapidated air-conditioning unit kicks on, but it doesn’t make any noticeable difference to the temperature; Bradley shoves the scratchy sheet away and turns his back on Jake as his t-shirt comes off. It’s the same one Jake wore all day long in the car, so obviously not intended to be pajamas, which makes his decision to sleep in it so much worse, because Bradley knows he only did it for the sake of this situation. If they had two separate beds, Jake would’ve been shirtless from the start, and the space between the beds would’ve stopped his nighttime attire from mattering. Now, Bradley has to be inches from him as he undresses to cope with the motel room’s stuffy heat. He sighs in frustration—a sigh he should turn into a yawn to perpetuate the agreed upon myth of being too tired to be concerned about their sleeping arrangements. But Bradley isn’t tired. The second Jake climbed into the bed, Bradley became the least tired man in Nevada.

He checks his phone: no bars. Nothing to save him. The only hope, the unconsciousness that won’t come.

“How long do you think we can do this?” Jake wonders aloud.

He answers with a questioning grunt.

“Keep driving,” Jake clarifies.

Bradley feels embarrassed—not by his thoughts, but the inference that he’s the only one having them—and doesn’t roll over.

“We’re not doing anything wrong,” he reminds Jake. “We haven’t been reassigned to our home squadrons yet. It’s not like we’re AWOL.”

“No, I know that. It’s just… how long do we do it? Until we run out of gas again? Hit Idaho? Canada? What’s the plan?”

“Sleep. The plan is sleep. Shut up so I can get some,” Bradley says gruffly, bunching his pillow under his head a little more roughly than he needs to.

“Oh, that’s right, you’re tired.” Jake’s voice is quiet yet still manages to be mocking.

“So are you,” Bradley prompts.

“Excuse me for not drifting off immediately. I’m finding it a little difficult in a bed that someone’s definitely died in.”

Jake wiggles around some more, making the bedframe groan, the mattress creak. When all his movement starts to cause Bradley to tilt precariously towards him, Bradley goes rigid and settles onto his back. He stares hard at the ceiling. Outside, the occasional truck trundles by. He listens to the engine’s drawn-out wheeze of effort to maneuver out of the truck stop, the huff of relief when its load gains momentum. Headlights pour through the room’s thin curtains, a glowing band sweeping across their walls. It isn’t dark enough—it isn’t dark enough for Bradley to pretend he can’t tell exactly how far apart they’re lying.

“Probably lots of people,” he whispers, a dry joke into the room’s musty quiet.

“Died of boredom.”

“Slipped on that ugly tile.”

“Overheated,” Jake suggests, bringing up the one thing it seems to Bradley most dangerous to discuss. They can’t talk about how hot they are. They can’t acknowledge, out loud, that they’re sharing this motel bed and they’re doing it half-naked.

“Yeah,” he says cautiously, “maybe.”

“Think the fan would help?”

Bradley stares up at it. With crooked blades and dangling, frayed pull-strings, it doesn’t look promising. He can imagine starting it up only to have it blanket them in decades-old dust as it rotates.

“No.”

“We’re just gonna lie here then?”

“Until it gets light,” Bradley confirms.

“That’s a shitty plan.”

“You’re the one who didn’t want to drive in the dark.”

“I was tired.” The old excuse.

“I could’ve driven,” Bradley says, though they’ve already had this conversation.

“We don’t know where we’re going. It’s smarter to drive when we can see, so we don’t miss any signs.”

“If we don’t care where we’re going, does it really matter how we get there?”

“Should’ve just slept in the car,” Jake grumbles. “Would’ve had more space.”

Bradley rolls his eyes.

“You could’ve gotten your own room,” he says.

He’s been thinking it for the last hour, since they stood blinking at the miserable check-in counter, too-bright fluorescents in Bradley’s squinting eyes, the sound of the road rushing past still in his ears. They didn’t know, when they asked for one room, that it would mean only one bed, and the disinterested clerk hadn’t bothered to tell them. Anytime after opening the door to the room and discovering that they’d be bunking together, they could’ve gone back and rented a second room. They didn’t. Like taking their places on the carrier before a mission, they accepted their berths without a word. Their lives are constantly hemmed in by those tight spaces—a narrow bunk with no privacy, the claustrophobic hug of an F-18’s cockpit. This trip doesn’t need to be that way, but there’s kind of a comfort in the familiar discomfort. Bradley can panic and sweat and lie here, too-aware of Jake’s shoulder almost brushing his, but he’s also reassured by the proximity.

“Like hell,” Jake replies simply.

Curious, Bradley turns his head on the pillow, eyeing the determined set of Jake’s features in profile in the dim light.

“Why not?” he murmurs.

Jake turns to look back at him.

“After that mission? I’m not letting you out of my sight. You probably would’ve turned around before you got out of California if I hadn’t been in the passenger’s seat.”

Bradley releases an indignant noise.

“I didn’t just go back on a fucking whim—I went back for Mav.”

“Yeah, yeah,” Jake says, blowing him off. “You just love to waste fuel.”

“You’re gonna be on the floor in a minute,” Bradley warns.

“You gonna push me out? Do it, Bradshaw. At least I’d have space to spread out down there.”

“Quit complaining about space. You’ve got another…” Bradley looks at the slight gap between them and the corner of his mouth twitches upward uncontrollably. “…half an inch you’re not even using.”

He sees Jake’s smile and hears the soft laugh that accompanies it. He’s not sure he’s ever seen that smile before; normally, an amused Jake is all beaming smugness and perfect, toothpaste-commercial teeth. Self-congratulatory, mean-spirited. Bradley likes this smile better—he likes it here, where it’s just them, and they can joke in the dark and not feel an awkward pressure to pretend that they’re asleep. What there might finally be room for is honesty, if they can just close that gap. Bradley feels it like the ache of anticipation. It’s almost painful.

“Well,” Jake says, “if you’re inviting me into no-man’s land…”

He rolls onto his side, facing Bradley. His bent knees press gently against Bradley’s thigh and that shouldn’t make him accidentally hold his breath for several seconds, but it does.

“I invited you to use your space,” Bradley counters, “not my space.” But he doesn’t shove Jake away—not a tad, and certainly not hard enough to make him fall off the edge of the bed.

“Maybe I like yours better.”

“Too bad.”

“Is your side of the mattress lumpy? Mine is.”

“Probably a dead rat or something,” Bradley speculates lightly. Incrementally, he’s relaxing his body, trying not to hold himself so stiff at their point of contact (Jake’s point of contact—Jake being the brave one), though his legs feel as tense as if he’s about to break into a run.

“Ok, this place might be a little run down, but it’s not such a dump that housekeeping would’ve left a rat on the mattress when they made the bed.”

“Tell yourself whatever you need to.”

Bradley rests his hands together on his stomach. There’s something soothing about getting under Jake’s skin. Old patterns, maybe.

“You would scope out the bed and leave me the rat side,” Jake gripes.

A snort escapes Bradley.

“If there was a rat side, obviously I wouldn’t have taken it. Why would I?”

“I don’t know, good manners? I’m just riding shotgun to your shenanigans on this trip.”

“Please,” Bradley argues mildly, “you’ve never ridden shotgun to anyone or anything. And this trip was as much your idea as mine.”

“As much as it was anybody’s actual idea,” Jake says. “There wasn’t a whole lotta thought process beyond getting in the car and driving.”

Bradley smiles fondly at that; it’s true. There were only these two inseparable urges: to be on the open road and to be together a little longer. After what they went through, after the fate Jake rescued him from, it wasn’t enough to shake hands and accept that they’d be going in different directions when they left TOPGUN. It wasn’t finished, the feeling. Bradley’s instinct to strut around like an idiot whenever he entered a room he knew Jake was already in, the way the goosebumps rose on the back of his neck when he heard Jake walk into a classroom after him. They’re like two points on a map and Bradley wouldn’t have known he was west half the time if he didn’t have Jake there being his east. He just had to see, to find out if it was just that mission, just the TOPGUN atmosphere, that made them the way they are. They had to get away in order to know. Now, hearing Jake’s steady but not yet unconscious breathing and straining his senses to detect whether or not he can feel it breezing across his skin, Bradley thinks he knows. His heart beats behind his ribs, feeling too big and too raw. He wants to slice it like a pie and offer Jake a messy, diner-sized serving.

“Thanks for coming,” he says for the first time.

Jake nudges his shoulder—the gesture somewhere in between a friendly punch and a caress of his knuckles over Bradley’s skin. Bradley rolls towards Jake at last. Beneath the sheet, their knees touch. Neither of them jerks away.

“Thanks for having me,” Jake says once Bradley’s situated. Their eyes meet and stay, too heavy to rove.

“I don’t,” Bradley whispers—an acknowledgement of his want, his fear of disappointment.

“You could.”

There’s something hypnotic about Jake’s softly-spoken assurance, about the way another beam of light makes their room bright then dark, a quick eclipse. They stare at one another. Suddenly, with his unwavering gaze on the man who saved him, Bradley feels safe; the realization comes upon him as abruptly as the light, the thought passing across his consciousness. Except he’s not left in the dark.

Finally, Bradley feels tired. His blinks get slower and harder to come back from. He smiles sleepily, watching Jake smother a yawn. He waits until he’s half asleep to let his hand creep forward. Eyes shut, he finds Jake’s fingers waiting to slip between his. It might not be real, but Jake says, “We’re not going to pretend this didn’t happen.” His fingers flex between Bradley’s for emphasis.

“Talk in the morning,” Bradley mumbles.

“I’ll hold you to that, Bradshaw.”

He rolls away then, tugging their joined hands with him so Bradley’s forced to shuffle closer, his arm thrown around Jake. Jake doesn’t seem too concerned about having enough space anymore.

Bradley bows his head forward until they’re sharing a pillow, until he’s resting his forehead against the planes of Jake’s back, until Jake says goodnight and he feels the word rumble from Jake’s body right into his own.

Previously on BnHA: Nana and the Gang were all, “hey Deku, we can read your thoughts and feelings so we should already know the answer to this, but for some reason we want to quiz you on whether or not you’d be down to kill Shigaraki Tomura.” Deku was all, “um okay, well tbh, probably not seeing as Saving People has been my entire thing since literally the start of the series.” The Vestiges were all, “yes that makes perfect sense and again we already knew that, but well, good for you buddy and I’m glad we had this talk. Anyway I guess we should ask these two cryptic fuckers in the corner to finally turn around now before we run out of -- ” and then the chapter ended. Because OF COURSE IT DID.

basically the minute that Hawks learned about One for All, he realized that anyone connected to Deku (e.g. Inko) would be a target for AFO. AFO wants OFA, meaning AFO wants Deku, and one of the easiest ways to get to Deku would be to target his family

Hawks therefore realized that Inko needed to be placed into protective custody

but the fact that ALL of the hero course students’ families (and is it only the U.A. hero course, or all of the hero course students across the country?) are being given protection tells me that Hawks and co. don’t want to single Deku out as being important. so then it looks like they’re not going to tell everyone about OFA (or at least not the public. which, good). so rather than drawing suspicion by saying “we’ve got to protect everyone connected with this one kid”, they’re making it seem like all the U.A. kids’ families are getting this treatment

but since the heroes are now spread so thin, they can’t just send a protective detail to each and every family, so they’re bringing all of the families to the same place instead to better keep an eye on them

so that’s all well and good, and a very smart move. except that idk how all of this is going to go over with the general public, all of whom are probably feeling unsafe at the moment, and who will probably see this as preferential treatment -- basically just the heroes looking after their own and leaving everyone else to fend for themselves

(ETA: okay so @hanashimas​’ translation clarifies that U.A. is offering their services as an evacuation shelter for everyone who wants it, not just the families of the U.A. students. that’s much more appropriate so I withdraw my previous “wtf” reaction lol.)
