Small but significant character moments that I actually really adore are from both the times we see the boys as tots. There is a reoccurrence that happens in both of them that I find so incredibly interesting.

For the turtle tot short, Splinter leaves the boys with weapons. In the short, Raph is the one who suggests they do “what Lou Jitsu would do” and Leo is the one who takes point when Splinter comes back to reprimand them. Leo, in taking point, is the one to defend them and get Splinter off their tails.

And then, in the flashback regarding the Kuroi Yōroi helmet, Raph is the one who grabs and throws “Skully” as a way to replace their missing ball which breaks it into pieces, but Leo is the one who speaks for the group and rushes into action to fix the teapot.

I love this for multiple reasons, but the biggest are how it shows that Raph has always been inclined toward the bold and fun and making the plans to include his brothers in what he loves and believes they’d love, whereas Leo has always been inclined to be the “Face” of the group and shoulder the attention even if it’s potentially negative all while coming up with on the spot attempts to fix the situation.

#rottmnt #rise of the teenage mutant ninja turtles #rottmnt raph #rottmnt leo #rise Raph #rise leo #I really do love this bit of character writing a ton #again it’s so small but like this is consistent!#little Raph just wanted to have fun with his bros 😭#Leo immediately coming in with the save both times (and more - remember Bug Busters?)#I really love too how none of them pointed fingers like #it was Understood that Leo would speak for them #listen there’s a reason Leo is the Face Man and it’s NOT just because he’s got a pretty face #he can talk both himself and his fam out of situations and I wish we saw it even more because it’s amazing to witness #circling back to Raph his bold nature is something I ADORE about him but I don’t see it brought up a lot which makes me so sad #like this boy is a RAPHAEL he is bold!!#and it’s cute too how the other bros immediately go along with it too #imo the Raph in these tot flashback is the same Raph that glues them all together as a bonding exercise #side note but damn…Leo saves them from punishment in the tot short and immediately gets jumped 😔#but yeah man I think a Lot about the little dynamics between the bros and how those dynamics could have first came into being #Leo being the face of the team and having been it since childhood-#-makes all the moments of immediately choosing to sacrifice himself when HE royally messes up all the more notable #if it’s one bro or the whole group individually he’s more chill about it but often still lets himself be the talker to get them out of it #he will do his damndest to get his brothers and himself out of trouble but once they’re in it he’s in the front with a smile #his own safety be damned #Raph is actually the same in that respect - he’ll jump into danger fists first but all bets are off when a brother is in danger #and like how Leo’s been the face - as the eldest Raph has been the de facto leader of sorts #he’s the one who is shown to make up their games! and I think that’s very cute #anyway their clashing in the movie is so interesting for a lot of reasons but one of them is that it shows how-#-even a longstanding dynamic like Raph and Leo’s that’s WORKED for so long is still susceptible to flaws…and to time

I view Kayne as outside gender due to him being a god so human concepts of gender really dont matter to him. He just prefers to use a form that presents as male around Arthur but within the Bellaverse she uses she/her around Bella and has a form that matches.

#hughlander #at first i thought of hughie saying the first quote but the more i thought about it the more it made sense for it to be john HEAR ME OUT..#he was obviously trained to only enjoy the whole “american dream” so ofc that picture perfect look for him would be a woman next to him #while he himself is a piece of shit and cares only about his image he also just doesnt give a shit #(based on his behavior l8r on in the show) he also just doesnt care what anyone has to say especially since in his eyes he is THE strongest #no one can say anything to him and hes untouchable..which is why his odd obsession with hughie will prove to be zero issue #and while he tries to make a connection with hughie in his own overly possesive way hughie holds himself firm with his actions #(lowkey where things gets ooc oh well idc) homelander does try and make SOME sort of attempt in picking at his brain anf at hughie as to #figure out WHY he even is interested in “that loser” and in doing so he eventually finds that hughie for whatever stupid reason #notices that he GENUINELY does care about people and that its not some front like he really does and TRY to see some good in people #so john opens up slightly to him about what people at vought did to him as a kid and its those moments where homelander tries to make it-#light buy hughie looks at him and i mean really /looks/ at him and says “jesus thats fucked Im sorry” and john is absolutely dumbfounded #like so dumbfounded and the god honest yet short comment in regards to him opening up about his past #essentially john starts to feel what he always imagined what “feelings” are supposed to be and after a long time of him and hughie oddly #finding some sort of “middle ground” he tries to pull a move in a moment of odd peace amongst the two and hughie jerks back #john is so confused and i mean REALLY confused #he thought he read all those “signals” right based on the romantic films he was forced to watch why is hughie acting like this?#he doesnt want to even think about what this pain in his chest is and all he can ask is “why not?”

my recent thrift deep dives on vinted have been so disappointing atp i'm gonna save up to buy a damn paloma wool sweater

#bc tell me why this earth is unable to provide me a sweater that has no polyester in it ... Skipping around thoughts here but there is just something so good about taking a childhood/teen coming of age and dunking it straight into the horror genre

#also something something they can be such tragedies that are only amplified by the way people.. move on after the end #because thats what happens you know. graduating / growing up / ect feels so huge and worldshaking and terrifying in the years leading up #to it #and then it just happens you move on and keep living #dennis doesnt marry leigh. they barely talk four years on from surviving a nightmare together. he admits #he doesnt think of arnie all that often anymore. he doesnt think about his athletics #because he grew up and has a job and just sort of lives his life now #the tragedy of arnie's death is amplified by the fact that if he'd survived long enough to get out of high school #he'd have gained that little bit more control over his own life. things couldve made a turn for the better #oscar- overlooked or ignored or seen too late by the adults in his life- disappeared. became a local mystery #one casualty of many over the course of one bleak winter #gretchen and abby drift and lose touch only a short time after they save each other's lives #teenage slasher begins with the fact that Tolly hasnt seen Amber since he was 17 and doesn't know what she's up to now #idk!! i think its a compelling part of the coming of age horror story #even a crucial part of IT was about growing up and getting on with life and forgetting what you were so scared of #until its right back in front of you

i think this is the most successful ive been in straightening my own hair in a while

#selfie tag #like after having Short hair for SO many years & finding the dryer round brush way easier to use on it in that state #i kind of just gave up trying to use that big clunky hot brush anymore?#like my hair is so thick anyway even when i got some length back i was like #'that thing has no grip anyway i have to use the regular tiny straightener & make this take half an hour'#aka never have the spoons to go straight & fry it way harder than necessary #but i just needed to stop trying to use it like an actual Brush #like i still need to work in sections but i can get Way bigger clumps done in one go #as long as most of the thickest areas are longer than like 4 inches it goes So fast #+ i can still use the dryer brush on the thinner shorter parts like the bangs & the back. those dont need to be so stiff anyway #+ it helps the curl the ends in a Little bit so they dont look so fried #like my main problem w using the round brush dryer w this haircut is that the long front pieces were curling up Way too short #makes everything look the same length when like no i want the angled bob!!! asymmetrical profile!!!!#i NEED to be early 2000s anime girl w the floofy bob w long front pieces & cowlicky side bangs. im in my rena era im in my lapis era

#personal shit below the tags #just venting about getting dragged into high school drama as an adult #which is my fault because i help coach a high school dance team #long story short my best friend is moving out of the state and won't be coaching next year #and is trying to set it up so i take over as head coach #but she was talking to two of the kids about it today to give them a preliminary heads up and #they straight up said that if the current assistant coach gets the job #none of the team will be going back #but that if i get the job everyone will come back #this grown ass woman has thought i've been trying to take her assistant coach job all year #when i have been perfectly happy as a volunteer #and this whole thing was extremely validating and such a bummer all at once because like #i just won't engage with the drama she's been trying to bring and it bums me out that the kids have noticed it #i've been trying really hard to stay professional in front of them and thought i was doing a good job #i HAVE been doing a good job #but the captain knows what i'm like as a coach because i was her head coach her freshman year and so she's noticed the difference in me #so yeah incredibly validating because every time i've been down this year about this #i've been like 'they know which of us is here for THEM and not the STATUS'#and it turns out i was correct this whole time #they DO know and they have been feeling it which is the last thing i wanted for them #so yeah validating and a bummer all at once #we'll find out within the next couple weeks if i will still be coaching next year #every time i vent about this i feel like i'm trying to sound like i have the moral high ground #it gives me the ick about myself

My DnD group's DM is collaborating with the players on worldbuilding and I'm the only one playing a gnome so she gave me the go-ahead to make up whatever the hell I want as long as it doesn't affect gameplay too much. MY CITY NOW

#i decided all gnomes have tails and long sideburns (but not beards)#my character Meena shaves hers bc she's essentially nouveau riche and growing them out is considered old fashioned and provincial #and now i'm writing an essay about the cultural importance of sideburn styles in gnome communities #they start growing during puberty and having full sideburns is considered a sign of adulthood/maturity #nonbinary people traditionally had particular cultural niches and would style their facial hair according to their job/gender #but traditionally girls in her home region would wear them long and tied or braided in front #and when they got engaged they'd wear them pulled back with either end of a ribbon tied to each 'tail'#married gnome women have special jewelry for the same purpose but older women usually just tie theirs back like a ponytail #and the jewelry is just for show #men usually keep theirs fairly short #the tail thing is less interesting i just wanted Meena to have one bc i think it looks cool #i tried rearranging some of the tags to make it easier to read but they got scrambled even worse 😭#tumblr mobile i hate you. one thousand laser sword attack
