Pairing: Randall ‘Pink’ Floyd x FemReader
Warnings: fluff, insomnia, anxiety, mentions of drugs/alcohol, friends to lovers
Summary: It’s not unknown to your friends that you struggle to sleep, insomnia being your biggest curse and the number one reason you’re the most fun to party with. Yet one night spent with Pink you discover he just might be the key to getting some rest.
word count: 1.9k
Masterlist
You couldn’t believe it. It was your senior year, a Friday night, but suddenly all your friends were too tired to party. As much as you understood where they were coming from, how you all had been doing the same thing every weekend, a part of you still wished they’d agree to go out. Mainly because it was the only time your nights weren’t so lonely. Sleep never coming to you in the late hours and emptiness filling the void. Weekends with nights that never ended was where you thrived so the idea of a Friday night spent home alone was the worst form of torture to you. A nightmare to be exact.
Pink doesn’t miss the panic on your face, how an anxious hand reaches to pick at the rips in your jeans. You’re uneasy all because no one felt like hanging out tonight. He knew you struggled with sleep, pretty much everyone did, considering that even when they got tired you were still ready to go. He just didn’t know it bothered you so much, made you this nervous to not be surrounded by a little life. So he jumps to attention before you spiral too hard.
“I’ll hang out with you, we can let these guys get their beauty sleep” Pink says, hand clasping over your shoulder and he can feel how you immediately relax at his recovery. You offer him a thankful smile and Pink decides it’s worth it to lose a little more sleep.
That’s how you find yourself in the passenger seat of Pinks El Camino after football practice. His hair was still damp from the locker room shower but he looked so soft in this light. The sun setting and caressing his golden skin. It was no surprise all the girls fell for a boy like Pink. Kind, handsome, charming, he checked all the boxes. Thing was, with everyone taking a break from partying, not a single soul was out tonight. Not even Wooderson had made an appearance and it almost made you double check if it was a full moon. The entire earth off its axis, something had to be explanatory for the quiet weekend.
“We can just go to my place and watch a movie?” Pink offers as you pass the Emporium for a third time just to see there was still only two cars in the parking lot.
“You sure?” you question, not wanting to feel like you’re overstepping but Pink just flashes a smile, chuckling lightly.
“Yeah, why not. Apparently we don’t have anything better to do” he says and you can’t help the wide smile that crosses your face as he pulls into the Top Notch for supplies.
You make it back to Pinks house in no time, juggling some milkshakes, fries, onion rings, and whatever other grease filled food you could get your hands on. It wasn’t your first time at Pinks before, having done the long trek up to the attic space that had become his own. The room is in a slight disarray but you don’t mind as you move to set the food on the small trunk used as a coffee table in front of his couch. There was something homey about it, how everything here had been passed down and worn in. Patches covering old holes in the couch and blankets tucked around cushions Slater had accidentally burned. His bed covered in a homemade quilt and mismatching pillows. It was Pink, in the simplest terms, and no other way to describe it.
“Any particular movie in mind?” he asks, clicking on the small television set, an old T-shirt hanging off the side. You smile around a bite of french fry as you slip off your shoes and begin to settle in.
“Not at all, something good” you tell him and he laughs before grabbing a VHS of American Graffiti and popping it into the TV. It’s not long until the boy has joined your side, the couch dipping you into him with the added weight. You accept it and settle in as the tape begins to play.
In no time, majority of the food has disappeared, and you’ve both been sucked into the movie. You lasted only ten minutes before wrapping a blanket around your form and maybe thirty before you rested your head against Pinks shoulder. He doesn’t mind, actually quite content with the situation he’s found himself in. He doesn’t question any of it but after the better part of an hour you’ve rolled against him, arm wrapping around his waist and pulling him tight, which makes him freeze. Dropping his eye-line he spots your closed eyelids, the soft breaths falling softly out in an even pace. You’re asleep and the idea makes him freeze because you never sleep. Not once in front of him at least, and he’s spent over 48 hours with you before.
The movie had been over for twenty minutes but Pink doesn’t dare move a muscle, knowing how much you need this, even if you hadn’t meant to curl against him. So slowly and carefully he begins to adjust you both on the couch. Turning to lay back against the cushions and lower you down with his chest. Once you’re tucked safely between him and the back of the couch, he pulls the blanket over you both, the wrapping his arms around your form and getting comfortable against your side. Allowing sleep to overcome him as well.
When you wake the next morning you’re more than confused, having not remembered falling asleep last night. It had been a long time since you felt so rested, so blissful, and so delirious. The room you open your eyes to is not your own, and the pillow beneath you is not a pillow but instead rises and falls with a breath. Eyes darting upward you find Randall ‘Pink’ Floyd evenly breathing and dreaming away, soft golden sunlight framing his face that peaks through the sides of his mismatch curtains. It’s then you feel the firm grip he has around you and realize your own. You must’ve fallen asleep during the movie but what was more unsettling about the predicament you were in, was how easily you had.
Breaking your thoughts, Pink lets out a soft groan, shifting in his sleep and rolling into you. You freeze as he snuggles closer, knee nudging between your own and tangling you whole. It’s then you realize you had only fallen asleep due to how comfortable you had been. Pink and this room had offered you something you hadn’t felt in a long time. The idea nearly brings tears to your eyes because he made you feel safe. Safe enough to fall asleep here and feel protected. He allowed you to get some real rest that you desperately needed, wanted more than anything. As you look at the long lashes that graze his cheekbones and his soft pink lips, your heart swoons. Pink was worshipped by every girl but in this moment you swear you love him. So you hug him close before kissing his cheek, soft yet firm.
When he doesn’t wake you kiss his other cheek before peppering him in kisses anywhere you can. Forehead, eye lids, chin, nose, and when your lips finally grace the corner of his own his eyes slowly flutter open. You watch as he processes the sight in front of him, you in his arms, and kissing his face. A dramatic turn around from the friendly and teasing relationship you had shared before this. “Hi”
“Morning Pink” you reply, hoping he doesn’t move from his hold on you. If you could stay like this forever now you would, sleeping right here peacefully in his arms.
“Is everything okay?” he asks, a small crease forming between his brows as he realizes he has no idea why you’d be kissing him the way you were.
“Yeah, I just wanted to say thank you” you say, throat already tightening as you use your hand to push some hair away from his face. That way he was easier to see.
“Thank you for what?” he questions, trying not to shiver from your touch. Mind reeling in how soft and warm you were against him. How beautiful you looked in the morning.
“I haven’t slept through a whole night in a very long time. It’s the one thing in life that makes me the most uneasy. So thank you for making me feel comfortable enough to finally sleep” tears fill your eyes and Pink notices, one slipping out and over the bridge of your nose due to your shared horizontal position. Quickly he reaches to brush them away before hugging you close.
“Of course, yes of course. Anytime” he mutters into your hair and you smile through your tears, feeling so much adoration and love for the boy beside you.
“I can leave though, I understand that I’ve probably overstayed my welcome” you say, beginning to lift yourself from between him and the couch but his hold tightens on you. Dragging you down and close.
“You have not overstayed, in fact you can’t leave until you tell me what all that kissing was about” he states and you blush cherry red, having realized that your joy for him had prompted some spontaneous action.
“I was just excited that I slept through a whole night. It was a thank you” you answer, unable to look him in the eye and he snorts.
“Really, that’s it?” and you groan, the blush darkening as you drop your head to his chest.
“Fine, I may or may not have been a little charmed by you. Couldn’t help myself” you offer and Pink chuckles, hand tucking under you to lift your chin. You allow him to pull your gaze back into his eye-line.
“I wouldn’t be opposed to a few more thank you’s” he whispers, lips close to your own and you gulp nervously. Feeling that magnetic pull and the thrumming of your heart that beat just for him in this moment.
When you’re sure you’ll combust you finally press your lips against his own, hands tangling in the chocolate strands of his signature hair, holding him close. Pink kisses back just as eagerly, unknowingly nudging his knee up more between your legs. His kiss is everything you imagined and when his tongue grazed along the seam of your lips you allow him entrance. Whining softly at the taste of him and how his tongue meets your own. He kisses you hungrily, desperately, wanting nothing more than to keep kissing you. In this moment you wish to keep him, not just for the comfort of sleep but for everything in between and after. You never want to stop thanking him.
“How was that for thank you?” you ask when you pull away for air and his grins, lips swollen and red from your own. He’s even prettier than before and when he tucks your hair behind your ear you know he’s meant to be yours.
“I don’t know, maybe we should try again” and you snort in laughter, hitting his chest lightly, but he draws you near again. When his lips brush against your own you stop fighting him and allow him back into a kiss.
Perfectly content with kissing him all day and sleeping in his arms all night.

Charles, the Raven
I had this little short story idea a few days ago, the first one I've written since leaving school. The vibe I was going for was melancholy but still generally sweet.
--
The roof of the Church of St. Peter on Calgary Street was a large, rectangular plane. It was mostly featureless save for a single door leading into the building below and a handful of dark gray vents in a grid throughout its surface. The rest of the roof was off-white concrete, bleached from decades of sun exposure.
This flat emptiness with its lone point of entry into the rest of the building meant the roof was particularly well suited to coven meetings.
Irving was always the first to arrive, followed closely by Ethel and Marie, always together. The rest would appear soon after, until the roof was crowded with black-feathered bodies, all perfectly hidden from view to anyone passing below.
Every few moments Irving would poke his head over the corner of the roof, watching for something. About fifteen minutes in each time, like clockwork, his regal call would sound over the petty conversations of the group.
I see him coming! He’s here!
A few other coven members would cautiously poke their heads over the side of the roof to see a tall figure approaching the building, weighed down by a number of fast food bags.
Charles is here! He’s here! The chorus of voices would return.
Charles’ arms were usually pressed tightly to his sides beneath his dark, shapeless jacket. Ever since he’d gone through his change, he’d felt the cold much more acutely than the other coven members.
Soon after the group had spotted him he would disappear into the church, at which point you could almost count the seconds exactly until he would emerge onto the roof. He was always met immediately with a cacophony of appreciative calls, some of them more ecstatic to receive his delivery than they were to see Charles himself.
He’d sit on the same gray vent as always, setting the food bags beside him, and then say something to the effect of; “Well, let’s get this out of the way first.”
Charles would proceed to pick up one of the bags and fling forth a shower of french fries towards the waiting beaks below him. The type of fries changed by the week: curly, shoestring, crinkle cut. Charles knew that his audience appreciated novelty.
He’d repeat this process with the other bags until all the fries had been distributed. Once the coven’s beaks were satisfied he’d usually pull out something for himself, a single wrapped burger or maybe a milkshake, and eat in silence alongside the rest of the group.
Charles still more or less had the appearance of a raven, except for the fact that he now looked like a human being. His eyes, his nose, his hair—any observant creature should have been able to tell that he was not really human, but rather a bird. It was just the fact that he’d taken the shape of a human spontaneously a few months before and hadn’t yet figured out how to turn himself back which hindered him from this reality.
In that time the only other human beings who had detected his ruse were, upon further inspection, actually animals as well. Charles had met the eyes of an extremely nervous-seeming pig numerous times at the supermarket, and had likewise discovered a rather friendly chameleon working at the local library. A jackrabbit he’d met in a bank had seemed to think she’d gotten one over on him when she’d pointed out the feathers sticking through the back of his hair, and had blanched when he responded that her pointed ears were slightly visible through her winter cap. She’d been sulkily silent every time they’d encountered each other for weeks afterwards.
Charles had no idea whether these creatures had chosen voluntarily to live among humans or if they, like him, could not find their way back to their original forms. He imagined it was probably rude to ask.
Once Charles was finished eating, Irving liked to land on his shoulder to make sure his friend could hear his voice over the wind. He knew that Charles’ hearing was not as keen as it was when he was a bird, and wanted to make sure he didn’t get left out of anything.
For a while after his change Charles had been bereft of language completely, either raven or human. He’d been silent, listening, as if he was relearning speech from the beginning (despite the natural affinity among ravens for all human language). Once he had sufficiently observed the speech of humans he finally came to share their language, although his tongue was slow and heavy at first, his throat croaking.
Shortly after he began speaking is when he’d gotten a job at the church. They took him for a strangely well-dressed invalid, lacking as he was any personal history. Charles thought it best to tell people he had no memory of his life preceding the last few months, since he couldn’t even explain to himself the truth of what had happened to him.
That was how he managed to acquire a place to sleep and a job sweeping the halls of the building, and more importantly access to the roof, which was a highly superior meeting place to the public park they’d had to use for the first few weeks after his transformation. Everyone in the coven had been perfectly understanding of Charles’ newfound limitations, but their preference for elevation was still extremely obvious.
Once everyone’s bellies were full, Irving would command the official start of the meeting.
In the past, meetings had been very generalized, everyone allowed to speak up about minute personal issues or relations between the coven and the creatures of the surrounding ecosystem. Recently, for obvious reasons, the meetings had become much more Charles-focused.
Charles had never been particularly verbose in the first place, but Irving insisted he keep everyone abreast to his discoveries in the human world. He always began by updating the group on his progress with figuring out how to reverse his transformation.
Considering that he had no idea what had caused the change in the first place, re-engineering the process was proving to be very difficult. Humanity’s wealth of accumulated knowledge, the immensity of which overwhelmed him initially, had turned out to be largely useless this respect.
When Charles first approached the church it was with the hope that they might have some knowledge on how to turn him back. As he slowly increased his exploration of the human world by small degrees, he gathered the significance humans tended to place upon the church over other buildings. However, he had eventually realized that the answers offered by the people within were of a more metaphorical type, and came away instead with a job.
The reverend who had decided to hire him was the only actual human Charles had ever attempted to explain his predicament to, although he had not completely ruled out the idea that the man was in fact a particularly well-disguised badger. He had explained to Charles at the time that whatever it was that had happened to him, it had happened for a reason. He explained that it was the job of people like the reverend to help people like Charles to get back on their feet.
Charles knew by that point that there was neither reason nor cause behind what had happened to him, and he didn’t understand what it meant to “get back on his feet” considering that having two legs was one of the only aspects of his anatomy which had remained consistent as of late. He nonetheless appreciated the reverend’s kindness.
His new job afforded him many opportunities to passively observe the lives of humanity, and on Sundays the main church building was full of a chorus whose loveliness nearly rivaled the most practiced birdsong he’d heard. One of the choir boys had set up a phone for him and shown him how to make calls, as well as how to download music. Charles had grown immensely proud of his expanding musical and technological knowledge. He had attempted to relay this excitement during coven meetings at various points, but they had seemed mostly confused as to why he was so taken with artificial music. Ethel and Marie had entertained him on the topic for a while with a hint of fascination, and while they enjoyed trying to mimic the voices on the phone they soon grew bored of it.
After a general update on the fact-finding effort, Irving would begin fielding questions on Charles’ behalf.
At one point Jean-Pierre piped up to ask when Charles would get a new job in a taller building so that they could move to a new meeting place again. Charles explained that it would be quite a while before he’d be able to get a different job considering his complete lack of a resume.
Marie intervened to ask what a resume was. Charles began to capitulate, but Irving remembered that this was actually the third time he’d been asked this exact question at a meeting and quickly cut his response short (although Irving himself didn’t recall what the answer was). Some of the coven members particularly enjoyed the sound of the word resume, and a few mimicking shouts of Resume! Resume! Could be heard throughout the crowd before Irving firmly quieted them.
At the end of the section dedicated to Charles’ recent observations of humanity, Irving would finally open up the meeting to whoever else wanted to speak. At that point there would be little time remaining, and with everyone antsy to get on their way only the most important pieces of news were allowed priority.
One example was the announcement from Ethel and Marie (whose courting had been drawn-out and public to an almost nauseatingly sweet degree) that they would soon be breaking off from the coven to pair off into their own homestead. In response, the group erupted into congratulatory calls of all kinds. The two birds in question puffed their feathers in pride. Charles grinned and said that he would have to bring something particularly special to the pair’s final meeting to mark the occasion.
Irving, whose own courting plans had recently been cut short, was glad that everyone was too distracted to notice that he kept his beak solemnly shut during all of this. After the calls had died down he voiced some brief congratulatory words of his own and then curtly ended the meeting.
Before leaving, about half the coven members would usually approach Charles to drop items at his feet as thank-yous for the meal. The items would swell into a glittering pile of variable usefulness, hair clips and shiny buttons and coins all mingled together. A few of the gift givers would offer greetings and well-wishes before flapping off. Once almost everyone was sky-bound Charles would dutifully gather the pile, placing coins in one pocket and everything else in the other.
Irving could tell that for Charles, moving as a human was exhausting. He was much less nimble than he had been at bird size, and seemed to be weighed down by the presence of his own body. Oftentimes after the rest of the coven had flown off, Irving would stay behind to talk with his friend.
Observing him on one such day, Irving realized Charles was at that moment more human-looking than ever. He’d shed nearly all the feathers he’d had after first changing, and his cheeks had a flush to them which Irving did not recognize. Noticing these changes made Irving quite sad.
Charles was gazing off at the departing flock, clearly thinking about something. Once his closest friend, his thoughts had become harder and harder for Irving to parse ever since his transformation. This, too, made Irving very sad.
When your jacket flaps in the wind like that, it looks like it could be wings. Said Irving to Charles, attempting to cheer up his friend once the rest of the coven had disappeared into the gray clouds.
Charles remained silent for a while, and Irving thought he might not say anything at all, as was often his want when he wasn’t being forced to speak.
“I think I might have to leave the coven. I don’t know if you all should visit me anymore,” He replied finally.
Irving’s claws gripped his friend’s shoulder a little tighter. Don’t be like that. We’ll find a way to turn you back.
Charles gave him a thin smile, a courtesy he was unable to return. “Thank you, Irving.”
After seeing off his friend, Charles stayed on the roof a while. He could still see silhouettes of birds being tossed about by wind on the horizon, but from that distance he could not recognize any of them.
During that day’s meeting he had not told Irving about his actual news; that he had begun to meet up regularly with the chameleon for coffee, and they had been joined that week by the jackrabbit (who had finally gotten over her aversion to his presence). Having acquired a phone number, he had resolved to give it to the pig the next time they met.
He had also not, in all those months, been able to tell Irving the one thing which he was absolutely sure his friend would not be able to understand. That ever since his feet had become anchored to the ground, he had not once missed the feeling of flight.

Dani and Danny return to Amity Park after a long time away, one last time.
--
This is my first fic for @phicphight, done for @ashseadreamer's prompt: They lay side by side on a blanket, fingers intertwined as they whispered dreams into the night. The fireflies look like falling stars-- beautiful, mesmerizing, and sad.
I hope you enjoy!
"Oh thank the Ancients!" Dani called out the moment the run down, faded "Welcome to Amity Park" sign appeared in their line of sight. "It feels like we've been flying forever!"
"It does feel like its been a long time, hasn't it," Danny replied. "It's nice to be back home."
Dani laughed. "I know. I still think we should've stayed in Taiwan."
"Yeah, well, you lost at rock paper scissors, so there." Danny stuck his tongue out at her, and Dani returned the gesture. It wasn't long before they both devolved into giggles.
After the two of them regained their composure, Danny spoke again. "C'mon, we've got a few hours to kill before sundown. What do you want to do first?"
Dani hummed thoughtfully. "Do you think the Nasty Burger milkshake machine is still running?"
"There's only one way to know for sure."
There was, unsurprisingly, nobody working, but one look at the machine, wrapped in bright yellow caution tape, told the half ghosts exactly what they needed to know. Much more surprisingly was the bundle of french fries, tucked in the very back corner of the freezer and next to some nasty sauce.
"Oh, there's no way that's any good," Danny said as Dani pulled the bag out.
"It's not like it can kill us any more," Dani pointed out as she opened the bag. "Besides. It's better than nothing, right?"
"Fair point."
The two ate the fries on the rooftop of the building. They definitely didn't taste as good as Danny remembered them being, but he blamed it on the fact that they were cold. At least they were still edible. Technically.
Dani belched, the sound echoing through the quiet streets of Amity Park. "That hit the spot."
All Danny did in reply was nod. At his silence, Dani turned to face him. "What's wrong?"
Danny shrugged. "You know. Same old, same old."
Dani leaned back on her hands, staring up at the sky. The sun burnt an angry red, low in the sky. It would've hurt her eyes, if she'd been human. "Yeah, I know." She tilted her head to the side, so that it rested on Danny's shoulder. "I can't imagine how weird this all is."
She felt the ice chill of his breath on her head. "It's... something, alright." He lifted his arms, pushing Dani's head off, and floated to his feet. "But we're not going to waste our time feeling sorry for me, okay? We only have..." He glanced down at his wrist, where a sleek watch sat. "An hour and a half. So, what do you want to do? We can check out the park, or maybe those sewer rat ghosts you befriended a while ago?"
Dani narrowed her eyes at him, the same expression he made whenever he was thinking. "Fentonworks. I think we should check out Fentonworks."
Dani did not miss the way Danny stiffened, or the single, sudden swallow, but his demeanor shifted back to casual not even a whole second later. "Sure. Let's go."
--
The halls of Fentonworks were never quiet. When Danny had been little, they were filled with the noises of two small children running around, getting up to all sorts of mischief. One of his earliest memories was of himself running through the halls on tiny little toddler legs, Jazz in hot pursuit and his mother not far behind.
When they'd outgrown those kinds of games, other sounds filled the void. Jazz's tuba practice from when she played in middle school faded into Danny listening to Dumpty Humpty with Sam and Tucker faded into alarm sounds for ghost attacks and phone calls about Danny's academic performance.
No matter how those noises changed, one sound remained consistent; the sound of metal and electricity and machinery. Sometimes it was loud enough to drown everything else out, and sometimes it was nothing more than the persistent hum emanating from the walls, so quiet and routine that Danny only ever noticed it was there when it wasn't.
Coming back to that familiar hum felt right, even if he wasn't pleased to admit it.
The hum of the portal underneath his feet, still as strong as the day he'd turned it on, vibrated in time with his core, with his bones, and he felt a bit like he was slotting back into place, like a puzzle getting completed.
It was nice to feel it again, after so long.
Danny ran his hand along the shelf in the living room, his gloved hand coming back coated with dust. Without a second thought, he turned and blew the debris into Dani's face.
She sneezed, shooting herself up into the air a good foot, before floating back down to ground level. "Hey!" she shouted. "What was that for?"
Danny laughed and danced out of the way of her lunge. It was clumsy; he didn't know if she was thrown off from the dust, or everything else. "Revenge."
"But I didn't do anything!"
"Uh-huh. Keep telling yourself that." Danny turned away, floating down the hallway. "Come on. Help me find a duster or something."
"But why? You've never cared about dusting before."
Danny shrugged. "Better now than never, right?"
Dani fell quiet behind him, but he didn't mind. He'd made it to the closet, and was busy searching for the aforementioned feather duster. The closet was filled to the brim with old junk; boxes of rusty spare parts, bits and bobs that would've been useless even if they were brand new, and cardboard boxes that looked more like flat pieces of cardboard after sitting under everything else for so long. No duster, or even something that could be used as one in a pinch.
He laid eyes on it after floating up to the top shelf, phasing through the boxes of board games so faded or covered in dust that their names were illegible. The blanket was folded neatly in the far back corner, and sparkled ever so slightly in Danny's natural green glow. He pulled it out without a second thought.
"Not a duster, but I guess if you're set on this idea," Dani started before Danny cut her off with a look.
The blanket was tiny and the years spent in the closet hadn't been kind to it; there were holes in the sides and center from where a moth had gotten to it, but Danny could still tell what it was.
"Do you recognize this at all?" he asked.
Dani narrowed her eyes for a moment, studying the worn fabric, before shaking her head. "Might not have gotten those memories."
"Yeah, well, I'm not too surprised," Danny said. "But this was my favorite blanket when I was a kid. I think Mom had to pry this out of my hands when i was in kindergarten, and even then I would try and sneak it into my backpack every day before the bus came."
He ran his fingers over the fabric. The edges, which had been lined with a soft silk, were still shiny, if not as reflective as he remembered them being, and the swirling pattern of pastel blues, oranges, and purples in the middle had muddied together into a faded mess. He folded it back up as neatly as he could before shoving it into his side.
"Are we using it for dusting after all?" Dani questioned.
"Of course not."
"Then why...?"
Danny didn't have a good answer, but he hadn't spent so long trash talking other ghosts to not be a quick thinker. "It might be nice to have. For later."
Dani nodded slowly. "Does this mean we're giving up on the feather duster dream? Because I'll be honest, that's not what I had in mind when I said we should come here."
"Oh?" Danny asked, flooding his voice with fake innocence. "And what did you have in mind?"
Dani opened her mouth before closing it again. "Fine. Dusting it is!"
They left Fentonworks an hour later. It wasn't perfect, but it was a lot closer to how Danny remembered it.
--
"I think this is the spot," Dani said, her hand shielding her eyes.
"Looks right to me," Danny agreed. Dani had started to lower herself to the ground before his hand on her shoulder stopped her. With a mischievous grin, he pulled the blanket out from his side and laid it out on the ground with a flourish.
"Told you it'd be useful," he said.
Dani didn't have it in her to argue.
The two of them laid down next to each other, arm pressed against arm, both pairs of eyes trained on the sky. Despite the time, it wasn't dark. Small lights danced in the sky, spinning and swirling amidst the stars.
"I didn't expect them to be so beautiful..." Dani whispered, near reverentially.
"Neither did I." Danny's tone matched hers.
"It's hard to believe they're-"
"Fireflies."
Dani spared one glance over at Danny, whose eyes remained trained on the sky. "Fireflies?"
"It's hard to believe they're fireflies," Danny repeated.
Dani shifted her eyes back to the sky. "Right. Fireflies."
She felt the blanket shift as Danny nodded his head. "We're just two cousins, watching the fireflies, on a warm summer evening."
"Just two cousins," Dani agreed. "And tomorrow, we're going to sneak into the movies, and we're going to watch the goriest, nastiest, R-rated movie we can get into."
Danny laughed, but it blended into the soft buzz that filled the air. "Yeah. And we're going to buy enough candy and popcorn and slushies to make us sick."
"Make you sick, maybe. I'm made of stronger stuff."
"If you say so,” Danny said with a roll of his eyes.
Dani kept talking to fill the silence, even as the buzzing noise got louder. “After the movies, we're going to come back here. To the park."
"Yeah?"
It was Dani's turn to nod. "We're gonna play hide and seek."
"Whose gonna hide?"
"You will. Obviously. Because you were too weak to keep down the snacks."
"Oh, so you're going to send me on a wild goose chase through the woods?"
"We need to build your endurance for next time."
She heard Danny's sharp inhale next to her, followed by a deep cough. The scent of smoke filled Dani's nose, but she didn't need to breathe, so she didn't let it bother her. The fireflies danced in the air above her, so much brighter and closer than they were before.
When Danny had cleared the soot out of his lungs, he answered. "Next time. Right."
Dani's eyes burnt. She wanted to close them against the smoke and the angry, searing light, but she couldn't. She couldn't look away from the lights on the sky, falling ever closer. For a moment, she tore her eyes away to look at Danny's face. Tears streamed down his cheeks openly, and she wasn't sure whether it was from the air or his feelings. She reached out the few inches to Danny's hand, intertwining her fingers with hers.
"You don't have to watch," she whispered. The buzzing sound had gotten louder, changing to a whooshing that almost drowned at her words.
"You know I have to," Danny answered just as quietly. "This is my home. I can't just-" He paused for a moment. "Someone needs to see this." He pulled his hand away from hers to wipe away the tears. "I promised not to waste the time feel sorry for myself, and here I am."
Dani didn't answer. She didn't have anything to say that she hadn't said a dozen times over, through theirs hours of planning this day. She'd tried to talk him out of it, originally. She didn't see the reason they needed to be here, didn't think it was a good idea, but Danny had been insistent. Dani could understand that, at least. Amity Park had always been his home, not hers. Earth had always been his home.
It made sense he'd want to say goodbye.
The lights in the sky were closer now, close enough that the air was hot, and her watery eyes made them blur and elongate. The whooshing was louder now, so loud that she couldn't hear anything else.
The sound of the first meteor crashing was deafening, even with it being nearly a mile away. The ground shook beneath her back, and Dani couldn’t keep her eyes open against the searing heat anymore.
The world froze in an instant. Every sound, every motion, even the temperature in the air.
Their time was up.
Dani opened her eyes, grateful to see the swirling green portal covering her view of the sky. Clockwork floated on the mouth of the portal, perpendicular to them. His face was customarily stoic, and his gaze was focused on Danny, who seemed to be staring straight through him.
"It's time to go," she said quietly. Her words shook Danny out of his trance, and he nodded stiffly before floating to his feet.
They'd made it most of the way to the portal before he turned around and hurried back to where they'd been laying, gathering the blanket back up in his arms once more, and returning to Dani's side. He mumbled something under his breath that Dani couldn't figure out, before walking through the portal. He didn't look back.
Dani did. It was a terrible sight, the world burning around her. She took one final deep breath, even though the smoke burned her nose, before stepping to the other side of the portal. It was time to say goodbye.
Their final goodbye to their dying world.

. WIP introduction.
the spookyboys, in collaboration with @reeseweston
With an aching secret wedged between his ribs, Felix Novak embarks on a quest for truth and to unveil the existence of aliens, ghosts, cryptids, and everything in between.
Casper Nguyen, a firm non-believer in anything not proven by fact, unexpectedly becomes entangled in Felix’s pursuit of the impossible.
Together, they blur the lines between the known and the unexplainable—and their friendship along the way.
. soft rain hitting fallen leaves . disembodied voices on the wind . audio crackles on the radio . cozy sweaters a size too big . handprints on foggy windows . milkshakes and french fries . inside jokes between friends . murder mysteries and mayhem . a face in the mirror not belonging to you .
characters :
Felix Novak
Psychosis runs in the Novak family. At least that’s what his father’s been trying to convince Felix of ever since the day his mother was sent away following her hysterical claims of seeing a woman in their house that no one else could see.
Except … Felix is positive he saw her too.
Even more certain that he spoke to her.
Maybe not in words, but through his Ouija board.
Years have come and gone since then, and though Felix hasn’t yet been able to prove his mother’s sanity, he has seen his fair share of ghosts and monsters, of creatures both evil and benign, and he’s not given up looking for the truth.
Casper ‘Cas’ Nguyen
Ghosts don’t exist, Cas is as sure of that as he is the insomnia that plagues him.
That is, until he meets eccentric and curious Felix, a man insistent that this insomnia Cas suffers from might in fact be the cause of a ghost not only haunting his apartment but also sharing some sort of deeper connection that is much too extreme for Cas to grasp.
Even in the face of proof that this ghost, and others like it, might indeed exist, Cas remains skeptical.
Even after years following Felix prove the existence of the paranormal on film, Cas remains skeptical.
Because there has to be another explanation … right?
Croix Harvoth
Croix was once a kinder and gentler person, but ghosts ruined that for him.
A near-death experience during an attempt to bring his former best friend’s girlfriend back to life has left him haunted. Literally. To the point he can’t sleep most days because the ghosts in his occult shop / apartment won’t shut the fuck up.
Like he owes them something, they come to him seeking help, seeking guidance to the next stage of their lives … or lack thereof … and no matter what he does, he can’t seem to get rid of them.
It’s turned him into an asshole of a hermit who avoids the living as often as he can … which isn’t easy when you run a business.
Someone’s got to pay the bills, though, and his cat, Jackass, will starve without her damned cat food, so what’s a guy going to do?
Atticus Flood
Some might say he is too giving, too gentle, too eager to help, and they would be right.
Atticus can heal the ailments of others, from minor wounds to major ones, from simple sorrows to the deepest mental aches, but in turn, it takes a part of him, too.
His hair is losing its color, drained from its deep black roots to a haunting white like a spider’s thread. His nails have taken on a similar fate, but his eyes still hold some of the life still lingering in him.
Taking it too much further might mean the end for him, but Atticus isn’t sure he can say no.
Especially not when he meets Croix and knows he might be the only thing that can save him from his demons.
Katy Lovelace
Everyone needs a friend acquainted in witchcraft, though Felix might have been skeptical when they first met. Which is saying something, considering all of his out-there beliefs … but this was different. This was putting his best friend in the hands of a stranger, inexperienced in the ways of magic, no one quite knowing what risks they might face.
Now, though, she’s a go-to friend for advice on crystals and spells, and the occasional bath time essential oil recommendations.

Something I'm curious about: do people really eat fries with milkshakes? Fries here are french fries, right? Potatoes cut like sticks? And milkshakes are 'milk with some sort of fruit and sugar, mixed'? Cause combining those ... Is a new concept for me. I'm not from the USA, so maybe it's an American thing?
Oh absolutely! Carbs and fat, when it comes down to it, with some sweet and some salty. Theoretically a good combination, taste wise.
Fries are what you're thinking of, yes. Potatoes cut like sticks with some salt and sometimes another seasoning sprinkled over them. But milkshakes---you're right that they can be a fruit milkshake, but most dipping I've seen has been with vanilla or chocolate milkshakes. I feel like the tartness of the fruit might clash with the taste, but someone can correct me on that.
I am an American, so you know that I have no concept of a culture outside of my own (/j) but it would not surprise me if it was a largely American thing. Apparently its a thing in Australia too!

del 🌼🍰🩷🌷💓 (i’ll let you decide if you’d like to include why or any headcanon-y tidbits that pop into your lovely noggin) 💐 but if you had to assign one for each man (hawthorn au rhett & robby)…
hotdog / hamburger
pancakes / waffles (or a secret third thing, french toast)
onion rings / french fries
milkshake / soda float
autumn / spring
cake / pie
usually in a hat / almost never in a hat (cowboy or ballcap)
chocolate flavored treat / fruit flavored treat
cats / dogs
most likely to text / most likely to call
(in the event of needing only one vehicle) who’s driving / who’s riding shotgun
big spoon / little spoon
Omg hello 🌷🍓💕
hotdog / hamburger Bobby is absolutely a hotdog kind of guy; he's the primary reason they appear at every Dagger Cookout. He can find Hamburgers near every fast food chain, so when he gets the chance, he'll absolutely go for a hotdog, but that's only if they're pan-fried or off the grill. They've gotta be a little bit charred.
Rhett loves to give him trouble for the amount of toppings he'll put on them, too. It's a remnant from when he was in college; his momma got him one of those indoor grills, and the only thing he could really afford to grill was hotdogs. At some point, he got bored of the flavor and learned to experiment 🌭
Rhett is the hamburger guy; it's just something he's learned to appreciate after a lifetime of raising beef cattle. He's pretty damn good at finding the good stuff, too, and fortunately enough, he's decently handy at operating a grill. It's the one thing he can cook, and he's damn proud of it.
pancakes / waffles (or a secret third thing, french toast) Rhett's heavily on the side of waffles; he likes that they're crispier than pancakes. Sometimes, he'll add chocolate chips or eat 'em plain without syrup; it depends on what he's craving.
Bob though? Die-hard french toast lover. Especially when he can add berries to them. Strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, together or individually. He'll even add some banana every now and then. Momma Floyd used to make them every Saturday morning, and they never fail to take him right back to his childhood.
Until Rhett drives by and steals a bite, at least.
onion rings / french fries A part of me likes to reckon that Rhett was the french fry lover until Bob finally convinced him to give them a second try. Come to find out, not every onion ring tastes like the vile ones he got from that Wabang gas station. Now you've got to beat him back with a broom to keep him from stealing one or three.
milkshake / soda float Bobby adores his milkshakes, especially if there's a cherry involved 🤍 but he's been known to lean over and steal some of Rhett's beloved rootbeer float every now and again.
autumn / spring Rhett's an autumn soul. It's the prime season of his favorite sport, that time of year when his flannel and jeans aren't too hot or too cold. He's been known to come in with a leaf clinging to the brim of his hat as well 🍁
Bobby is spring. His allergies absolutely hate the season to its core, but he loves to venture out and see all the new flowers. You've gotta be careful with him because he'll go out and buy a bunch of flowers to plant in the garden, and he'll be sick before he's even got them out of the truck 🌷
cake / pie Pie and cake is a funny thing in this house. Rhett adores ice cream cake, but if it's not that, then he'll tell you that he likes pie (it's because Bobby makes them). Robby enjoys both, but he leans toward fruit-flavored pies. Now if you pull out a cake with fruit in/on it...
usually in a hat / almost never in a hat. Rhett has to be pried out of his hat; it's a little bit ridiculous. He's so used to needing one around the ranch that he just? Doesn't? Know how to act without one? He feels naked if he steps outside without one. And then there are the days when he's so tired that he walks into the house and forgets to take it off...
Bob isn't a fan of wearing them because they tend to mess up his hair, but sometimes Rhett will notice him squinting in the sunlight and offers up a spare. However, he isn't above stealing Rhett's cowboy hat in the privacy of their own home. Sometimes, Rhett will be sitting on the couch, and he'll see his own hat pass by in the corner of his eye.
chocolate flavored treat / fruit flavored treat Fruit and Bobby go together way too well; if the name mentions fruit, then he's more than likely gonna reach for it. Rhett? Cannot be separated from chocolate. Cheap, expensive, obscure, it doesn't matter. Their tastes collide for chocolate covered fruits 🍓
cats / dogs Cats are universally loved, but Bob is the true cat guy. He can walk into a room, and every cat in the vicinity will wind up in his lap. Likewise, Rhett can take a nap in the barn and more often than not, wakes up to a barn kitty on his chest. But he's truly a dog person; he's found half a dozen strays and converted them to ranch puppies.
most likely to text / most likely to call Bob is the texter. He's not all that great at filling the silence during phone calls. He just can't think of anything to say, you know? Unfortunately for him, Rhett has big thumbs and sometimes struggles to type on that tiny little screen, so he just calls without warning.
who’s driving / who’s riding shotgun Rhett loves to be the driver, given that he's in a semi-rural area/not in a city. The winding roads unravel all the worries that have collected up in his head. Robby loves riding shotgun; getting to lay back and gaze out the window is one of his favorite parts of being in the truck. There are so many things you don't notice when you're doing the driving! But he will get motion-sick if you put him in the backseat, so his riding options are somewhat limited.
big spoon / little spoon Big spoon Bobby! It's his favorite thing. He doesn't get to feel "big" a lot in his life, he's never been noticeably muscular or had a presence that fills the room before he enters. In fact, he didn't experience it a whole lot until Rhett and Reader wandered into his life.
He's obsessed with the feeling it gives him, like a pillar in the wind, warding off anything that could ever hurt whoever is snuggled into his arms. Rhett, in particular, triggers a sort of protectiveness Bob didn't realize he had. This massive, tough-as-nails cowboy trusts him this much? Ugh.
Likewise, Rhett adores being able to exchange his strength for vulnerability. It's nice to feel protected, especially when he's spent so much of his life being the protector. He's funny when he gets to fall into that role because he loves to snuggle his head over Bob/Reader's chin. He can and will fall asleep like that. Rough and tumble cowboy by day and oversized cuddle bug by night?

A kind farewell to 2024 and gratitude for its gifts:
The beginning of 2024 was pleasant enough. I set some really strong boundaries for myself and I stuck to them. Sticking to those boundaries allowed me to open my heart to new and wonderful friendships. And I think I became better friends with myself. I found myself grateful and continue to be grateful and cherish the security that the boundaries have given me.
In the summer of 2024 I had major surgery. After years of Not getting along with my uterus and my uterus, wanting to be a ruthless dictator in my abdomen, we parted ways! My Sister came out and provided adult supervision for me immediately following the surgery. As always, we managed to have fun despite the circumstances. Within a couple of weeks, my quality of life improved 100% every day as I was healing and I am so happy to have eliminated those health problems. It is really corny, but I do actually feel like me again.
As soon as I was cleared to resume all normal activities, I took my daughter to a small amusement park. I think at about the sixth time riding a spinning ride which part of the appeal is feeling the centrifugal force and her little body crashing into mine- I got injured. ( a breast implant ruptured) So,more surgery for 2024. That surgery ended up getting scheduled and postponed until the middle of fall. There was no emergent harm by not fixing the injury right away. (If you need to skip this emotional statement, I understand. There’s a lot of politics surrounding what makes a woman, a woman. Removing my reproductive organs and changing my body shape did, for a moment, make me question where I would fit in. And I don’t think I was fully prepared for my own grief. But I’ve also never been happier looking in the mirror. this part is a work in progress )
I lost a job that I really loved and thought I was good at, at an organization that I believed firmly in its mission. Actually, the day that I lost my job was a day I was waiting on breast biopsy results. ( the breast biopsy was separate from the ruptured implant issue. but happening simultaneously.)
In the midst of thinking about my next steps, I was also waiting on biopsy results that would really determine how the next year went for me and likely subsequent years ahead. Not the best time to become unemployed. I decided that the results would come back negative and I would remain healthy. That’s exactly what happened, except it turns out that I developed type two diabetes and my cholesterol went through the roof. Subsequently, I take better care of myself with a chronic illness than I did before. what I wouldn’t give for a large order of french fries and a milkshake…
things were starting to feel pretty good, unemployment notwithstanding. Some really amazing opportunities and journeys opened up. My daughter and I are in a family therapy program, which includes home visits and I don’t have words for how amazing this program is and what it has done for my family.
I started hiking again and for the first time in years, trusting my body wasn’t an issue.
I had the privilege to edit and provide input on my boyfriend‘s book this year. Now I can’t wait to read the book for fun! (Romance tip for total nerds: if your boyfriend is an author and you like to edit, it is very romantic to sit at his kitchen table, marking up his new book before final publishing) (I know that there are grammatical and mechanical errors in this post. This is the first one I’ve ever done and I’m not sure how often I’m going to do this.)
In the last two weeks of this year, I am grateful. Truly grateful.

McDonald’s Day
McDonald’s Day falls on April 15, the anniversary day of when Ray Kroc opened his first McDonald’s restaurant in Des Plaines, Illinois, in 1955. Most, if not all, people around the world know this name, we believe. It’s one of the world’s largest fast-food restaurant chains. Did you know that Ray Kroc was not the founder of McDonald’s? The founders were the McDonald brothers. The current corporation credits its founding to Ray Kroc. So, let’s celebrate this McDonald’s Day in honor of Kroc as well as the restaurant founders, the McDonald brothers.
HISTORY OF MCDONALD'S DAY
The very first McDonald’s restaurant was opened by New Hampshire brothers Richard and Maurice McDonald on May 15, 1940, in San Bernardino, California. The McDonald brothers started by serving slow-cooked barbecue, and the business took off quickly. They later found out that 80% of their sales were from hamburgers, so they closed it for three months. They then remodeled it as a self-service restaurant, where customers placed their orders at the windows. It is said that they simplified their menu to just nine: hamburgers, cheeseburgers, three flavors of soft drink, milk, coffee, potato chips, and pie.
The McDonald’s brothers developed the “Speedee Service System,” allowing them to prepare the food quickly. All their hamburgers contained ketchup, mustard, onions, and two pickles. Although this newly remodeled McDonald’s struggled at first, once the brothers replaced potato chips with french fries and introduced triple thick milkshakes, the business started to grow again. In the early 1950s, they saw their profits double. They then established several franchises in California and Arizona. Ray Kroc, a milkshake mixer salesman, visited them in 1954, wondering why McDonald’s would order eight of his multimixers.
Once Kroc knew about McDonald’s restaurant operation, he saw potential in it. He then bought the rights to franchise the brothers’ restaurant across the country. He opened his first McDonald’s franchised restaurant in Des Plaines, Illinois, in 1955. But, their relationship was contentious due to philosophies that differ on how to run the business. Kroc later purchased the company from the McDonald brothers in 1961. The brothers who lent their name to the business and were pioneers of the business concept gradually faded to the background. They kept their original San Bernardino restaurant until they were out of business eventually.

🍝 SPAGHETTI — what is/are your oc's favorite food(s)?
*claps hands together* Thank you so much for this question! I have a few solid foods, but for some, its surprising that they mirror each other so much- Nav, like said in his profile, LOVES diner food. French fries with a burger and a milkshake is a perfect meal he likes to have, and maybe a slice of pie to go along with it. Fast food is always a solid choice to have whenever you hang out with him if you don't have a local diner in the neighborhood.
Alex is a tricky one to nail down. Xey don't really go out much, but they do have places they prefer to go out to eat to. As a kid, they went to alot of luau's, taking bits and pieces of food that everyone brought or made. Chicken Long Rice would be a comfort for them, rice noodles, chicken thighs, ginger, garlic, and soy sauce all mixed and cooked together would bring back that warmth from home.
Theo is an Orycto, and as they are vegetarian, doesnt eat meat in their diets. They do raise chickens on their planet, and loads of other animals, so theres no real limit to their diet apart from that. They do like the creamy soups their mother made, but when they went out on the grand adventure with their other friends, the discovery of mac n cheese threw that out of the number one spot.
Last, but not least, Write Knight. Medieval times didnt have the luxuries of the foods of today times, so their food was the most limited. The taverns were the main places they gained any food to eat when cooped up in their home all day and night. They settle with a hearty stew and bread, good and warm to help keep them going. If they were to try food in the modern day, i'd think stirred fried rice would be a favorite.

Yes!! Hello sparkle and mr aeron i am unfortunately british - most of my requests are about doctor who which aeron knows i am deeply closeted (although im not sure whether i'm bi or lesbian or demi or something else still havent found an answer after about 7 years) and desperately in love with clara oswald (aeron you could put a gif to show sparkle who I'm talking about if you want LOL) which is why nearly all my requests are clara and i'm boring aeron to death with it LOL
omg you have a switch so do i! aeron wait til black friday sales and then get games on the eshop!! SDV is so good its a calming farm game where you can get married and they have town festivals and stuff.
fried butter?? y'all are insane! and yes we insult people with silverware, or calling them a donkey, or a spoon, or a melon, or a donut hahaha also sparkle what does me being british makes sense im so curious, also yes we don't have saltines here and barely anybody eats crackers in general unless they're with soup but we just say soup and crackers. give me some other american things and i can say if we do them over in crumpet land or not!
also havent watched gossip girl but i get what you're saying about gorgeous women doing no wrong, i watched this show called wilderness and the lead got cheated on and all i could think was 'this show makes no sense because it assumes that a woman this beautiful would get cheated on' although dumb men are just dumb sometimes (not you aeron)
omg i love animal crossing too aeron!!
also are you still responding to my longer ask from the other day? no worries if you are just don’t want it to get lost :)
- ⭐
You're not boring me with all the clara requests at all!! I love having people who are so dedicated to certain characters that they request a bunch for them <3 (sparkle anon this is clara btw)
What color is yours? Might is pink, and I decorated the back with a bunch of small stickers that went with the color 💞 and you're right, I'm definitely going to have to look for sdv when they have the black friday sales (as long as they're actually good- the sales have sucked the past few years here in the us)
Sometimes I'll eat just plain crackers haha, we have so many different brands and flavors of crackers over here it's not even funny. Gas stations alone have walls upon walls of different kind of chips (or crisps, because I know over there chips to you is what you call your version of french fries) I know you don't have sweet tea because I already mentioned that but do you have milkshakes? Because from what I've heard the us is pretty much one of the only places where you can get a real, authentic milkshake that isn't super liquidy (of course I've never been out of the states so I wouldn't know for sure)
Honestly I completely agree with men being dumb, a lot of them cheat on women who are so beautiful because they're insecure of themselves. And this is blair from gossip girl btw, just so you know what she looks like (she's also gorgeous)
Yay we have something else in common! Who's your favorite characters? I love Isabelle personally, she's my favorite (I hate tom nook though don't even get me started on him)
I am, don't worry!! It's a little hidden under stuff in my askbox but I promise I haven't forgotten and will respond to it asap :]
