Yoshio Urasawa AMV MEP Sign-Ups!
I'm hosting a weirdly specific Detective Conan MEP (Multi-Editor Project)—one focused on the eleven episodes written by Yoshio Urasawa, set to YUNGBLUD's "weird!"
If you don't recognize the name Yoshio Urasawa, you might recognize another: Smile Village. Urasawa is a Conan screenwriter known for penning the wackiest, most outrageous scripts, like "Intrigue at Smile Village" (Episode 997) and "The Genius Restaurant" (Episode 1,089). This is a MEP to celebrate these oddities, with one part per Urasawa episode!
All oddities in question:
Episode 943: "Tokyo Barls Collection" (cabbage core)
Episode 955: "The Secret of the Insect Man" (bug outfits)
Episode 976: "Follow Them! Detective Taxi" (armadillo)
Episode 997: "Intrigue at Smile Village" (does it need explaining)
Episode 1,010: "The Idol Whose Smile Disappeared" (dine and dash)
Episode 1,028: "Ballad of the Woman Who Loved Cake" (drowning in red bean paste)
Episode 1,057: "Bad Guys" (they really want to throw Conan off a roof)
Episode 1,067: "The Shopping Center In Love" (wrestling)
Episode 1,089: "The Genius Restaurant" (candy is for babies)
Episode 1,119: "The Four-Person Class Reunion" (host clubs are serious business)
Episode 1,126: "The Detective Who Lost His Mind" (most normal Urasawa episode)
How It Works
Open to editors of all levels!
As stated, each part will focus on one of Urasawa's episodes. While bringing in other sources from the anime or manga is permitted, the majority of each part should be the one Urasawa episode.
No style guidelines or color scheme! The only guideline is to be weird!
Please render your part in 29.97 FPS. If using Sony Vegas, please disable resample.
There is no preference on file format.
If possible, leave at least 15 extra frames at the end of your part for transition purposes.
The final MEP will be posted to this Tumblr and my YouTube channel. There will be optional subtitles on the YouTube upload, but the Tumblr upload will be hardsubbed with stylized subs like this sign-up video (though they're subject to change). Subtitles will be positioned to not cover up any editor's typography.
Deadline is 23 March
Sign-ups will remain open until 23 February. Any unclaimed parts will then be claimed by me and/or anyone interested in editing more than one part.

Thinking of the Nie disciple that told Nie Mingjue it was Meng Yao who stayed behind to clean up corpses on the battlefield today.
Nie Mingjue didn't just randomly stumble upon poor lil meowyao eating bread in the novel, he was already looking for him to thank and reward him for his work.
That's what makes it so fun that nieyao's first conflict will end up being about someone else taking credit for Meng Yao's work.
And I'm sure that Nie Mingjue's actual opinions on plagiarism are a lot more nuanced, all we really get from him in this scene is "well you shouldn't kill someone over it!" which leaves a lot of room for what punishments he thinks are appropiate. But I bet that it isn't occuring to him in this moment that the only reason he knows Meng Yao at all, the only reason he got such a capable deputy, is that he noticed someone was taking care of the dead and cared enough to want to know their name. And then the Nie disciples didn't lie to him. The disciple he asked could have said "it was me, Zongzhu" to rise in the ranks himself, but he didn't. He went and asked others, who all also could have taken the credit, but they didn't. Someone saw Meng Yao working and decided to be honest about it and that simple decision is the catalyst for Meng Yao becoming Nie Mingjue's deputy.
Meng Yao can't just work hard to get results, others have to acknowledge that work. If they don't, it's as if he didn't do anything at all.

I bet meng yao IS thinking about that moment while coming up with his fake-suicide plan#anyway i always laugh a litle whenever anyone wonder if meng yao looking a bit pitiful was all some master stategy to get nmj to like him#because like... no. no that would be a stupid plan and also involved way too many factors he couldn't control.#and also!! he was already doing something else to try and get nmj's attention. all of that fucking work!!#if you plan on getting nmj– guy famous for valuing merit and hard honest work– to like you what is more useful:#looking a bit like a sad little wet cat in case he comes across you? or. ill probably delete this in a minute but ive just been fuckin boggled by what ive seen across tumblr in the last few days in particular. its why i havent really been around. like holy fucking shit, its really like some of yall just dont want a chunk of the trans community to exist. like some of yall are thisclose to saying it verbatum. way too many already have. Still fascinated by how much hate Mitsi gets for the whole "dead fem-coded loved one backstory" thing and all the hangups surrounding that when Purple's mom is arguably a much more egregious instance of the thing everyone is upset about Mitsi for but she ultimately got a pass because...idk, she was The First?

I get that everyone's mad she got fridged.#but the way some folks talk it's like they think her dying was her only contribution to the story#and that's not the case at all#she has so much more going on than Purple's mom did#she's a narrative foil and a character foil. she serves a thematic purpose as well as a plot one.#it's because of her that Victim was able to connect with anyone else. he loses touch with their community once she's gone.#Rocket was her idea! it exists because she wanted it to!#and now when we look back at the last two episodes we can see her haunting the narrative#we only learn enough about Gold and about Purple's Mom to make us sad for King and for Purple when they die#but we don't really miss them ourselves#because they don't really exist outside of King's and Purple's pasts#Mitsi feels so much better integrated because she exists in the story as more than just part of Victim's story#and her influence on the story doesn't end with her death#but it feels like people believe that her dying for Victim's backstory negates everything else she does for the story#and that's the only thing they see#but I'm wondering if she's the target of everyone's upset not just because she's the third backstory-death#and not just because she's only the second overtly fem-coded character and both died in their introductory episodes#but because there WAS more to her...so people are upset that she STILL died for someone else's story?#maybe

Back when mahiru thought his uncle might be dead he had a flashback to the accident that resulted in his mother's death, but one thing I noticed is that we don't actually see akira in this memory? It feels like either mahiru (or someone like lily or jeje) is supressing his memory here.
And if someone possibly killed akira on purpose, who was it and why?

He might know about what is so special about mahiru. In that case killing the mother (who also knew what's special about him#Would make some sense. She can't tell mahiru or anyone else about it if she's dead.#But killing her in a way that might have killed mahiru as well...assuming whatever is special about mahiru is needed for the ritual#Risky#But maybe mahiru's memories were faked like misono's were with the night kiriko died and mahiru wasn't actually there when akira got killed#Trying to kill tooru after he had to reveal his ties to c3 before he could explain to mahiru what's special about him#Would also fit with tsubaki#tsubaki would also have a motive not to taunt mahiru with it so nobody tries to look into it and finds out what killing her would achieve#If mahiru is needed for the ritual it's probably even better that mahiru and kuro found a way to get rid of the distance limit#because the enemies probably planned with the distance limit in mind meaning mahiru not needing to be there when kuro tries to stop tsubaki#Might be unexpected to them and throw a wrench in their plans

#val.txt#im sorry i know some people are stronger than me and have like nyx lives AUs but there isnt a universe where he survives in my head#not bc im not an au person (im not an au person) but bc like. it completely undermines his whole character and what he means in the lore#if we dont have nyx dying we dont really truly grasp the dire need for the king and therefore noctis's whole journey loses its luster#like yes we can also look at ignis doing the same thing and using the ring in the absence of the royal bloodline#but ignis was also SEVERAL steps closer to the king and throne than nyx (galahdian refugee turned magic amplifier basically)#so it makes sense that one of the prince's royal retainers would be seen in a more reliable position in the absence of royal blood#and i say this as both a nyx fan and an ignis fan (hi ignis youre one of my top favourite ff characters ever)#nyx didnt want to save people just for accolades he did it because he didnt want anyone else to have to be a sacrifice. bc he already was#ignis did it knowing the risks but the ring was very much on the side of “noble reasons” in both cases#anyways. hi

have i ever complained about the b//sd anime key visuals on here? because i have some fucking complaints.
#i let the anime get away with a lot because it's the thing that got me into b//sd#and at this point i view it as a bonus at most#supplementary visuals which are nice to have but i will be fine without as long as the manga exists#so i will always be happy to have it even though i don't enjoy certain changes and choices#and i'm not a fan of the style in general BUT#it's still a style that can work‚ mayoi churns out beautiful artwork in the anime's style all the time#and to be fair they did better with seasons 4 and 5 but those are not the seasons i have on hand#what i have are the first 3 box sets and wHOMST IN THE FUCK APPROVED THIS BOX ART???#WHY IS IT LIKE THIS?????#it’s like everyone was posing on their own and then 10 minutes before the pictures had to be submitted#they realized they had no group shots so they just slapped those solo shots together#everyone is standing in place but also doing too much and not interacting with anyone else‚ it’s so unnatural#the black + accent colour backgrounds are also too messy for how ~pristine~ the character art looks#and it’s too dark to make them pop#also the background black clashes with the blacks used in the character art#oh the graphic design is my passion of it all….#why would you do this to meeeeeeeeee#the individual disc cases are really nice tho#howling from the shadow realm

incredible how people kneejerk so hard past a potentially valid point into being jerks about the idea of there being disabled people with different needs
#people always willing to throw the baby out with the bathwater if it means they can be a bitch about disabled people who don't conform!#which is incidentally what they're complaining about 'abled' people doing#like i don't even disagree that [device] is probably not ideally built for most of the intended use cases and would take some iterating#and would definitely not work for certain disabilities#but. the latter is literally every medical device in existence?#i don't know why i look at notes of posts that deal with disability. it just pisses me off.#it wasn't even about ai but they're acting in the same way when anyone suggested that there was a use case for llms#in terms of disability or anything else (such as ESL)#but man the amount of people either being 'um i'm [disabled in one way] and this is the worst thing ever invented for any disability'#or 'i'm not even disabled and even i can see how this wouldn't work for any disability ever!' is pretty abysmal
