Hi fellow adventurers!! A few weeks ago i caught wind of "Delicious in Dungeon". I'm not really an anime person, but I am a TTRPG, CRPG, and cooking person- . And holy shit. It is so good i  convinced my partner to binge read the whole thing. I'm caught up on dungeon meshi, the anime, and just yesterday i also finished dungeon meshi, the manga.

Its rare to come across a serialized story that is so thematically cohesive and knows its characters so well. All of the bonus content like the artbooks and monster tidbits are just the icing on top.

So, inspired by Ryōko Kui's writing and illustration I'm going to attempt to create a recipe for every single Delicious in Dungeon recipe!-

Today that means Huge Scorpion and Walking Mushroom hotpot is on the menu!

(As always you can find the cooking instructions and full ingredient list under the break-)

SO, “what goes in to a Huge Scorpion and Walking Mushroom hotpot?” YOU MIGHT ASKThis is one of the pricier dishes until we get to the kelpies and dragons of the menu-

Rock lobster tail

Porcini mushrooms

Shiitake mushrooms

Snow fungus

Small potatos

Fensi (glass noodles)

Water

OPTIONAL: your choice of dipping sauces

There was a crossover/promotional event in Shibuya which featured various realworld dishes from the series. They had one for Huge Scorpion and Walking Mushroom, but they used prawns.  while those cook better in a hotpot, they also didn't look enough like the scorpion for me, they also used udon noodles for the slime and a seaweed/kale(?) mixture for the algae. If you're looking for substitutes due to price or availability i would start with those ingredients.

AND, “what does a Huge Scorpion and Walking Mushroom hotpot taste like?” YOU MIGHT ASKI hope Senshi would forgive me for technically cooking the lobster outside the pot, once he tastes it.

Okay im always partial to veggies but wowowowowowowoowowowow the snow fungus and the mushrooms tasted soooooooooooo good in the lobster stock

A nice delicate layering of different flavors

Try to get a bite with the lobster meat and shiitake together, dip in butter then chili- trust me

Its up to you what texture you prefer if you want to put the noodles in at the end or put them in halfway through the meal. Either way dont go for eating those first as theyre very filling

I think this would pair well with a citrus drink, something light and clarifying

This would also pair well with being extremely high and hungry (if you feel safe cooking while inebriated lol) very calorically dense

For the trial run I did one lobster tail in the pot with everything else, and one lobster tail off to the side to be picked apart. The former is more in spirit with a hotpot, but it got rubbery as the meal went on and lost its nice taste. The latter may be a bit more work but all you have to do still is boil it and set it aside. I found it held up much better. It was also easier to get inside the shell.

. If you have hardshell maine lobster available, i think it would be superior to rock lobster (keep in mind crustaceans will get rubbery if cooked too long in the pot) . Green onions and/or lotus root would make excellent additions

From getting the ingredients out to sitting down and eating, id say it took maybe 30 minutes max? It'd vary on how fast you can prep vegetables and get the various implements heated.

Hotpots are not something i do very often as i'm usually just feeding myself. I think thats why a hotpot makes perfect sense to start the series off. If you want to set the tone of "take care of yourself, eat food with others, and use what you have" (generally speaking) there is nothing more simplistic, flexible, and defeats-the-purpose-if-you-eat-it-alone than a hotpot. Gather around and let your friends bring ingredients to the pot if you want to fill your heart up extra full <3

I'm doing something different here because unlike previous recipes where i used a bunch of different sources and made my own recipe out of hodge-podging it, or just used another persons recipe entirely if they did it really well, i made this more whole-cloth based off of what i had available, what I could discover through research, and my existing knowledge. Instead of the recipe being 50/50 original, this one is more 20/80. So. I'll pass the final verdict off to you guys :D 

What would you rate this recipe out of 10? (with 1 being food that makes one physically sick and 10 being food that gives one a lust for life again.) Did you love it, did you hate it? What're your thoughts on what I could do different, and what would you have done instead?

Ingredients:

2 Rock lobster tails

3 Porcini mushrooms

2 Shiitake mushrooms

Snow fungus (a good handful, should rehydrate in the hotpot)

2 Small waxy potatos

Fensi (glass noodles)

Water/lobster stock

Method:

Lightly rinse all of your vegetables beforehand and let them dry.

Vertically slice the porcini mushrooms. Cut off and dice the stems of the shiitake mushrooms. You can slice the tops if youd like.

Peel and cube the potatoes, roughly an inch each.

For the lobster tails; Boil a pot of salted water. Keep the shell on. Weigh the largest tail and add 1 minute of cooking time for every ounce of weight.

When done, strain the lobster from the water. Pour the water into your hotpot as the base. Serve the lobster on the side so people can pick the meat out to dip into the hotpot.

Bring the hotpot to a simmer. Add the potato cubes, snow fungus, mushrooms, and noodles.

OPTIONAL: this wasnt in the show, but its fun having sauces on the side :) i had oyster sauce, dry seasoned chili dip, melted butter, and soy sauce available

Speaking of people tiptoeing around the severity of what Armand did to Louis

See this is why I stepped away from Tumblr because of bullshit like this. 1: ion really love stuff like this being sent to me on anon bc it just feels inherently wack and badmouthy like I prefer this stuff dm'd to me if you want to see what I actually think about it. I just prefer my nonsense to come from a verifiable source instead of anons y'know? But I'll answer just this once 2: Armand gaslit Louis, period. We see him do attempt it during the argument they have in s2e4 (the you sure about that after Louis says it wasn't him) and we see him literally do it in ep 5 after Louis attempts (you said the worst things you've ever said to me then you went into the sun, fully neglecting his part of the argument, and louis believes it) and he attempts to do it again in ep 8 after he gets caught for his involvement (it was a little thing, you have forgiven me, it was 1 night). He's not lying by omission with his involvement in the trial, he's just straight up lying and being manipulative. Armand said he wasn't involved in the actual play just getting them there, which is a lie because he directed the play and very well, to the point of having multiple notes on how to make the play better (not seating in the round, telling the animators to big up the hoarding) this is more than a simple lie of omission. It's also telling that they don't see San Francisco as a lie, even though we know for a fact Armand lied to Louis because he erased his memory and told him a new story, which Louis then believes and has so ingrained into him he spits out armands own talking points like it's breathing. That's lying! And then to say actually Louis did ask for them to be erased is kinda silly; Louis has adopted Claudia's we keep the damage so we dont forget the damage mentality, he keeps the rocks he was tortured with in his feet so he doesnt forget how bad it was, keeps diaries and pictures of loved ones he's hurt and who have hurt him. Louis is a hoarder why would he not want to hoard his memories? Especially related to something as big as a suicide attempt when he's been suicidal for a very long time and has a family history of suicidal ideation like it just doesn't make sense. Also how was Louis able to ask after a shower when he still could barely walk after 6 days. You can say he was put in the coffin and given more blood but even still that injury, especially for someone like Louis that doesn't eat enough, would still be serious enough where he shouldn't be showering.

To portray Armand actions as not manipulative is to not portray Armand fully. Like they end the post with why can everyone else be imperfect but Armand, why is he a machiavellian manipulator and what inspires this reaction? Ion know, maybe the straight up manipulation? Armand being manipulative makes him a flawed character, not a machiavellian manipulator and I think it actually flattens him a lot to do this run around saying he isn't manipulative. He is and that's ok! He literally tells louis that they should manipulate Daniel so he only hears the story louis (really armand) wants to tell. Thats why he has the private session with Daniel in ep 3 to steer the narrative to him being wronged by lestat to make lestat to be the ultimate villain not him, that's why Armand began butting in and interjecting in s2 to guide how he was seen once we got to Paris, so he can control the narrative. We see him do it in ep 4 when Armand tries to say that Claudia loved being baby lulu and louis corrects him and says both Claudia and Louis hated baby lulu. Hell the united front/love story for the ages thing was manipulation because it was to get Daniel off his guard so he didn't ask the hard questions that would lead to the discovery made at the end of the season. You can just say I don't wanna write him being manipulative and move on like people have to reckon with the things the characters have done in iwtv fanfic if they're writing Canon compliant works and you have to give some credence to the characters actual traits and actions in aus like we just need to be serious. Today is a day like any other. How fortunate I am for the sun and beautiful weather. I have Weslynn and Nyxi, both of my beautiful daughters as company. I sit and try to find peace between the screams and clatter of toys being shuffled through. My thoughts racing, as my motivation depletes. Im conscious and yet i feel blank, Numb if you will. Im trying to stay positive and be the rock for my family. They need me, as much as I need them.

My significant other is temporarily absent as I write by the way. I sit and think , damn, I truly do love that girl. Id take a bullet for her. I try my hardest to be the man she needs but lately I feel inadequate. There are many unusual feelings coarsing through my body. And my nerves reflect it. Well, what is left of them anyways.

So let me take a minute to tell you about my significant other. Because she floods my mind daily, and fills my thoughts on a level thats constant. First thought that comes to mind is her eyes, a bright blue that you seek to dive head first for. As breath taking as the ocean and all its beauty. Everytime I have the opportunity to gaze into them I get lost, such kind features that ive never experienced before. They carry so much depth, along with pain and things that not many will ever know.

My other favorite feature of hers is that she has this captivating smile. Its paralyzing to me. I thought it couldnt get better than that and then I heard her voice and her laugh. That was when I knew that I wanted her. I had saw enough.

Her presence I remember, was resonating. I couldnt take my eyes off her. Her blonde hair and the way she carried herself, almost as if she wanted to keep every one at a distance because she had felt enough pain, but it was buried. So, so deep. The attitude, the independency. I mightve been drooling by that point. I dont recall.

Her long legs, that carried her physique with an hourglass shape. I thought to myself, "She's the one. I dont care the challenge, Ill fight for her and be the man she deserves." Yes I understand beauty isn't everything. But wow she was everything I desired in a woman. Truly.

I remember falling in love with this girl. I couldnt wait to clock out from work to rush to her house and laugh. She made me feel alive. Like a drug i've never experienced. The minutes turned into days and the days turned into months. The way I feel about her never dissolved. It just kept growing. Rapidly. The wildest part is I remained all in. Sure we had our tiffs and disagreements. But none of that matters. I've never met someone who made me feel "at home" the way she does.

We would lay there at night and laugh until our faces hurt, and our stomachs couldnt handle any more. As we grew together I continued to learn about her, through every story and interaction I kept seeing this short lived flicker. And one day I realized, the flicker I kept sighting was pain. She hid it so well, I almost missed it. The average person would've missed it and not thought twice.

She finally opened up enough to give me a glimpse of her life, and lets just say. For what she has been through, she is a warrior. The fact that I cannot fathom going through the trials and tribulations that she has encountered, and yet she carries herself as if it doesnt eat at her in the slightest. I saw the vulnerability and it wasnt there for long. She flipped the switch and covered it with anger. She has every right to be angry by the way. She has the right to be much more than angry. I accepted that from the start. But she is strong, she is brave and she is courageous. Yet, she doesnt view herself that way. I know it affects her negatively. And It eats at me so often, some days worse than others.

She had been used, abandoned, treated poorly, cheated on, and I made an pact to myself that day. I decided I never wanted her to feel any of those feelings ever again. I wanna be the one she can rely on. The one she can trust. I want to be her last. I even promised her Ill never give up on her because she needed to know just how serious I am.

To this day Im just as committed to her as the day I met her. Now let me be clear. I have made my mistakes, and I am far from perfect by any means. I've reacted in ways I am not proud of. Said things I regret, and I hope one day it gets forgotten about. I have no excuses and I hold myself accountable.

I just crave to love her. I hope one day she see's the true reason why I stuck by her. Because she is my person. Life was dull before her, and I cant picture it without her next to me for the rest of my days.

Theres so many great things about her, I could go on forever. Like we now have our 2 beautiful girls together and she cares for them like a great mother does. She puts her needs behind our girls and she truly does make so many sacrifices for our family. She is human so she has her days of being over stimulated and touched out. As I do think anyone would!!! I know I couldnt do it any better than she does. And i want her to know that.

As i come to a premature closing on this write, i guess Ill end this with a reminder.

If she/he is what you want. And I mean truly want. Dont give up. Remind them why they are important to you. And if they mean what you say they mean to you, show them. Every.single. day!

Mark my words, I will make this woman my wife. Not just because she had my kids. Because I fell in love with her. Her sense of humor, her looks, her soul. Im done searching, because she is the one and I hope she see's Im here to be her team mate.

Armand gaslit Louis, period. We see him do attempt it during the argument they have in s2e4 (the you sure about that after Louis says it wasn't him) and we see him literally do it in ep 5 after Louis attempts (you said the worst things you've ever said to me then you went into the sun, fully neglecting his part of the argument, and louis believes it) and he attempts to do it again in ep 8 after he gets caught for his involvement (it was a little thing, you have forgiven me, it was 1 night). He's not lying by omission with his involvement in the trial, he's just straight up lying and being manipulative. Armand said he wasn't involved in the actual play just getting them there, which is a lie because he directed the play and very well, to the point of having multiple notes on how to make the play better (not seating in the round, telling the animators to big up the hoarding) this is more than a simple lie of omission. It's also telling that they don't see San Francisco as a lie, even though we know for a fact Armand lied to Louis because he erased his memory and told him a new story, which Louis then believes and has so ingrained into him he spits out armands own talking points like it's breathing. That's lying! And then to say actually Louis did ask for them to be erased is kinda silly; Louis has adopted Claudia's we keep the damage so we dont forget the damage mentality, he keeps the rocks he was tortured with in his feet so he doesnt forget how bad it was, keeps diaries and pictures of loved ones he's hurt and who have hurt him. Louis is a hoarder why would he not want to hoard his memories? Especially related to something as big as a suicide attempt when he's been suicidal for a very long time and has a family history of suicidal ideation like it just doesn't make sense. Also how was Louis able to ask after a shower when he still could barely walk after 6 days. You can say he was put in the coffin and given more blood but even still that injury, especially for someone like Louis that doesn't eat enough, would still be serious enough where he shouldn't be showering.

To portray Armand actions as not manipulative is to not portray Armand fully. Like they end the post with why can everyone else be imperfect but Armand, why is he a machiavellian manipulator and what inspires this reaction? Ion know, maybe the straight up manipulation? Armand being manipulative makes him a flawed character, not a machiavellian manipulator and I think it actually flattens him a lot to do this run around saying he isn't manipulative. He is and that's ok! He literally tells louis that they should manipulate Daniel so he only hears the story louis (really armand) wants to tell. Thats why he has the private session with Daniel in ep 3 to steer the narrative to him being wronged by lestat to make lestat to be the ultimate villain not him, that's why Armand began butting in and interjecting in s2 to guide how he was seen once we got to Paris, so he can control the narrative. We see him do it in ep 4 when Armand tries to say that Claudia loved being baby lulu and louis corrects him and says both Claudia and Louis hated baby lulu. Hell the united front/love story for the ages thing was manipulation because it was to get Daniel off his guard so he didn't ask the hard questions that would lead to the discovery made at the end of the season. You can just say I don't wanna write him being manipulative and move on like people have to reckon with the things the characters have done in iwtv fanfic if they're writing Canon compliant works and you have to give some credence to the characters actual traits and actions in aus like we just need to be serious.

I hope it’s OK that I ask, how will your Loumand fic do the gaslighting stuffs ? Will there be a sad ending , or if it’s in a universe where Armand won’t do that so it has a happy ending !

Firstly, strictly in regards to the fanfic: we set out to write a fanfic that is earnest, optimistic, and invested in the importance of Louis and Armand's love for one another over the course of their long relationship. I don't know that I am able to categorize the ending, and overall tone, as sad or happy. It's a mixture.

Secondly, I don't want anyone to think it's not okay to ask stuff and I am thus choosing to assume the most good faith version of this question, where you really just want to know what's in store for the fic in regards to tone. However, I do want to say that waking up to this in my inbox bummed me out a lot. I think a friend put it well when I shared this and they agreed that it can read as "Will you address my specific headcanons in your fic? And if not, can I judge you for it?" There's a (probably unintended!) air of… policing how happy Louis/Armand fics are allowed to be and in what circumstances.

Thirdly, I'm going to hand it over to @marbleflan for a response to the idea of 'the gaslighting stuffs' being a necessary talking point to all Loumand fics:

Wow, ok buckle up yall this is gonna be long!

This is one of those asks that is just so hard to know where to begin. Let’s start with how Armand gaslighting is presented as an immutable fact of the show that we would have to rewrite or omit in order to write a story with a happy/optimistic ending. So first of all: what gaslighting?

Just as a reminder, gaslighting as a term comes from the film Gaslight and refers to subtle acts of denial of someone’s perceived reality in order to undermine their confidence in their own version of events. Crucially, gaslighting is a pattern of behavior, and relies on small acts of denial (in the film, the level of light thrown by the gas lamps, hence the title) that make possible larger assertions of one reality over another. So when and where exactly does Armand engage in this behavior? Point me to the places where this is happening because I haven’t seen it.

This kind of assertion that Armand is “gaslighting” or “manipulating” Louis is so pervasive in the fandom, to the point where it’s often presented as a fact of his character rather than one possible interpretation of his actions. My own interpretation is that Armand engages in a lot more self-deception than he does conscious manipulation: that is, when he lies to Louis, he really thinks he is justified by the circumstances, rather than misleading him for some ulterior purpose.

Armand lies to Louis canonically twice: 1) when he colludes with the cult to kidnap Louis and Claudia and put them on trial and 2) when he mischaracterizes his role in the trial as coerced and passive when in fact it was active. For me, the biggest factor in thinking Armand makes the choices he makes because he believes he has no other alternative is the delivery of the line “I could not have prevented it” about Claudia’s death. To me, this line is delivered not to Louis and not to Daniel, but to Armand himself—he’s reassuring himself that even if he made different choices the trial and its fallout were not preventable. 

Given Armand’s backstory, this kind of makes sense. Although he is the most powerful vampire in the coven, his experiences have taught him that being the most powerful will not save you: his maker, after all, was even more powerful and ancient and was burned alive by the Children of Darkness. And Lestat’s disruption of Armand’s rule over the CoD likewise showed him that a persuasive and charismatic leader can overturn centuries of indoctrination. It isn’t that he literally couldn’t have prevented it—it’s that he believes he couldn’t prevent it. 

The second lie, about the extent of his involvement, I think is really where there could be multiple interpretations. Why would he do this? My own take is that he does not go into the trial thinking Louis will survive. He fully expects that both Claudia and Louis will be killed and he’ll be left behind. Thus, he plays the role he always plays within the coven: artistic director. Later, after Lestat manages to intervene and transmute Louis’s sentence, he decides to free Louis. When Louis assumes Armand saved him at the trial, Armand doesn’t correct him and goes along with it, and the lie spirals from there. 

To me, I can completely see Armand justifying these lies of omission in a variety of ways. Sure, he didn’t save him at the trial, but he did save him later (by freeing him from the coffin). Sure, he did betray him, but he thought he didn’t have a choice. What’s the difference between feeling like you don’t have a choice and being physically restrained? And so on, and so forth. My point is not that Armand is blameless, or that he should be absolved of responsibility for his choices, but rather to point out that his actions aren’t fundamentally manipulative. They’re in character for someone who has survived a lot of abuse and violence, and whose priority is their own continued survival.

Now let’s talk about the San Francisco episode. Louis recovers his memories and is shaken, upset, and resentful that Armand took them; Armand claims Louis requested he remove them. Is he lying? The show doesn’t actually tell us! It’s completely left up to the audience to decide! Despite the near ubiquity of the opinion that Armand is lying here, I think there’s plenty of reason to think Louis might have indeed asked Armand to wipe his memories.

Firstly, it’s weird that Armand would have chosen only this memory to wipe, but left Louis with so many unflattering memories of him completely intact. Why not erase the trial, or at least Armand’s betrayal? Armand, in Louis’s Paris memories, fights with him, fucks up in front of him, all sorts of things. If Armand’s goal is manipulating Louis (for what, I’m not even sure - just to stay in a relationship with him?) why erase only this one memory? And moreover, why not erase Daniel altogether? Daniel stays with Louis and Armand for five days and then Armand says he erased Louis’s memories three days after that. Armand can erase eight days of memory but not eight and a half?

Secondly, although Daniel makes a huge deal out of their memories cutting off at the same moment, to me this is more of a flag for the opposite. In Louis’s own recovered memories, he is an active participant in erasing Daniel’s memory: in fact, it is practically his idea! Armand is ready to drain Daniel, wrap him in plastic, and yeet him into the nearest incinerator, and Louis is the one who demands he live. Louis is the one seen feeding Daniel his rote lines. Louis’s own rote lines, which emphasize Daniel’s importance, make more sense for him to have authored than Armand, who at that point is pretty much ready to kill Daniel and be done with it.

I also think it’s in character for Louis to have asked for it. Louis, in season one in the confession scene, says explicitly that his problem is avoidance: he runs to the bottle, etc. In fact that’s exactly what we see him doing in 1973, escapism via drugs and sex. Louis’s desire for the truth but instinct to misremember is central to his whole character. Hence the emotional freight of him telling Daniel that Lestat’s version of Claudia’s turning was more accurate, it’s him confronting how even as he tried to reveal the truth to Daniel his instinct was to alter the details to make himself seem less culpable. He’s always struggling with this: how much of what happened is his fault? He’s afraid of the answer, because he feels responsible for it. Additionally, Louis has trauma specifically around suicide, because of Paul’s death. So yeah; I can see him at a low point in 1973 saying “I can’t live with myself, I don’t want to remember this.”

This is just my interpretation, but it’s as valid as any other, because the show does not give us the answer. 

This is getting way too long and I have more to say BUT finally I’ll just ask that if you’re jumping on the “Armand is manipulating Louis” bandwagon please sit with yourself for a moment over why it’s that character that must be the manipulator. Why, in a show that takes great pains to have a full cast of flawed, realistic, imperfect characters, the one that is somehow irretrievably, Machiavellian-ly manipulative? What is it about him that inspires this reaction? 🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐 Maybe just sit with that question for a minute.

and so daniel... leaves! VERY shock news because ppl were like, oh suuurely he'll become a junior partner at some point in the next few years-- and its like, rlly shocking AND he has to not work for 3-6 months or smth because of sensitive client info and like, he has to start new at this new company (renault vibes) now and max feels like, horribly betrayed because obviously daniel didn't talk to him about it and-- why didnt he talk to him about it???

and daniel gets caught up in the move and sorting out his life and everything as well so he barely has the time to talk to max or to contact him or anything let alone like, examine his feelings now that a relationship would be POSSIBLE. anyway long story short: max feeling betrayed, daniel trying to see him again but only managing to do it in passing at like, trial overlap times they have and max is avoiding him because to HIM thats the clearest rejection you could get! (can't think thru a reconcile now but they do, and its hard, but then theyre lawyers in love or WHATEVERRR)

Identifying personalities using astrology and psychology.

If you have been on my blog since I started writing (Jan 2022), you have noticed my evolution from a total mess to somewhat manageable. My life was dominated by 8th house theme. Everything was crashing to the ground. I was emotional, intense, hysterical, confused, chaotic, irrational and damsel in distress. In terms of astro, I am Scorpio rising with moon and venus in 8th house. This gives you an idea as to my inclination in occult, spirituality and the life theme I carried.

The major thing I noticed was that I seemed to bump into people who were either toxic or showed their toxic side to me. I would face slot of weird emotional reaction from people that left me confused. I lacked self concept so it was hard for me to identify whom to befriend, who's a good person, who's taking advantage of me, etc. I was also people pleaser, clingy, dependent.

In my imagination, i was obsessed with becoming popular, well liked, loved by all, getting unconditional love, validation, attention, approval from people around me. Since my personal self image was very bad, I also attracted people in my life who behaved with me the way I thought about myself.

After reading astro and psychology, I started noticing patterns amongst people. So many people are really red flags but if you're unaware you'll fall for their persona which is actually a facade. Narcissists are heaven for a people pleaser because they both fulfill each other's insecurities.

After I became aware of my shadow, through trial and error, I started picking up behaviours, thoughts and styles in people I interacted with. So many times I was fooled by exaggeration, crocodile tears, lies, fake promises, fake self confidence. So many people love to be the center of attention, love the cry the hardest, love to spout wisdom not because they actually believe in that but because they want to dominate, belittle the others and control the situation in their favour. So many people knowingly hurt others, harm others, abuse others but dont care because they consider the victim weak and frail. It is a sad world. Man eat man world.

I started to label what is a lie, manipulation, gaslighting, silent treatment, domination, fakeness. For eg, the songs we hear and the movies we see are full of narcissistic fantasy. We want to be special, loved, hero, admired, perfect and our unconscious is manifested in the TV movies songs. I guess this is one of the reasons why songs are so addictive because they stimulate your core desires and emotions. They are also highly energetic and control your mood, feelings and life.

I also learned mindful living, grey rock method, boundaries, setting goals for myself, rational thinking, saying NO, not victimizing myself, being peaceful and dream free. Hopefully, I attract people with similar energy in my life now. And also avoid people who hit my red flag radar.

A woman out of time chapter 5

TW: talking about death of a loved one

You left his cabin and stood outside on the deck of the Dauntless, the Navy men who took you to the Commodore were ahead of you and showed you your bedroom for the following weeks or maybe even months. They didn't look really excited for you, maybe it was misogyny, maybe they still thought you were a pirate, maybe they thought that a woman on a ship would bring misfortune or maybe a mix of all three.

Hopefully they didn't saw your red eyes that would signal that you were on the verge to cry but even if they noticed it they didn't said anything. You were lead to below deck and to a small room.  Thankfully it had a door with a lock and the three Navy men went away after they gave you a foul look, you ignored it and stepped inside. The room was little and smelled a lot better then the cell you were in, it had a small bed and a desk in it. You stepped further into the room and you saw that on your bed laid two bundles of clothing, one for sleeping and one for during the day. The sleeping wear was a simple cotton shift that went to your knees and the other bundle was an old looking outfit from the Navy, possibly from a retired Navy man. You folded the clothes and walked to the desk, it didn't had any engravings like the Commodore had but it was bare and reminded you of home. Home, you really wanted to go home again, to see your friends but most of all you wanted to see your parents and your sibling again, not that they were alive. You shooked your head and focused on your surroundings again, on the desk laid a bowl with water and a cotton cloth. You walked towards your door and locked it.

You took of your combat shoes, you stripped from your green leather suit that had safety straps and pieces of vibranium on it and took of your gloves with your ring on it. The suit you layed on the chair by your desk, the heavy shoes with a steel nose shoved you under the desk and the gloves with your ring you layed on the desk itself. You unclasped your sport bra and slid on the shift, it was comfortable. Until now you realised how sore your muscles were and you stretched yourself and gave a spin to your vibranium arm. It gave a loud mechanical sound and you widened your eyes in surprise, maybe that wasn't the best idea. You hoped that nobody heard that strange sound and you walked fast towards your new bed, you laid your new clothes on your suit and stepped inside your bed. If somebody did hear that you could always say: ''huh I didn't hear any sounds, maybe you were imagining that. I was asleep.''

You tossed a few times around and your eyelids grew heavy, nobody stormed inside of your room and it was safe to say that nobody heard you. The ship rocked gently on the waters and with that you felt asleep.

A few hours later

You woke up somewhat refreshed and cleaned your face with the cloth and the water that was given to you. You tried to pull back your hair but without a mirror you couldn't see anything so you could only guess that it looked okay-ish. The Caribbean weather was really hot and although you couldn't leave your beloved suit, you had to. You were sweathing in that thing and you possibly would die of a heathstroke. You slipped of the shift and you put on your sport bra. With the same cloth you washed your body and you took the Navy outfit from the chair, you changed into the white pants, buttoned up a white blouse with white cuffs and above that you wore a white waistcoat. You took the red coat off the chair and swung it on your shoulders. The uniform didn't fit properly, the pants were to long, it was a little bit tight by your hips and the blouse was to oversized. What really comfortable was but it did look a bit weird with your waistcoat above it, but luckily the coat was fine. Your shouders and arms weren't to big for them and it sat really nice on your shoulders. You snatched your gloves off the desk and put it on, your ring went into your pocket and you stepped outside your room.

Outside of your room you could hear the coughing, the mumbeling and groaning of some of the men. Probably in a room where nobody could see them, but before you went to them you needed to retrieve your medpack. On the way you were still asking yourself why Jack Sparrow so familiar was, but you couldnt put your finger on it. You walked on the chairs but with each step you were hoping that your pants didn't rip. Outside on the deck, you felt your face tinteling Your face from the sun and you sniffed the salty sea air in your lungs. Men were working on the deck  but you didn't see James, maybe in his cabin then. Your boots were loud on the wooden deck and you maked your way to his cabin. You knocked a few times on his door to alert him and you stepped inside. It looked like he was about to leave, his posture straight. But when he eyed you his posture went even more stiff. His face fell, like he didn't want you to be here and he didn't meet your Y/E/C eyes, instead he looked at the door that was behind you. You really did hurt him huh? You shuffeled uncomfortable with your feet and clasped your hands behind your back.

''I uh.. I'm here to retrieve my medpack Commodore.'' He gave a tight lipped smile but didn't say anything instead he only gave you your medpack. You gave a soft thank you and you made your way out.

Infirmary

There were circa 10 men in the makeshift hospital and a men fussing about them. The boat was rocking on the waters and some of them were emptying their stomachs in a wooden bucket because of it. You could see the sweat on their foreheads and the yellow puss on their bandages, the smell was disturbing and it made you almost gag. Sympathy washed over you, they were in pain and the medicine from the 18th century didn't help them either. The medic stood over a sickly looking man, dabbing a cotton cloth on the man his stomach.

''Here, let me do it,'' you walked towards the two men and you took the cloth out of his hand. ''How peculiar,'' mumbeled he under his breath, but he didn't protest like you expected. You opened your medpack and picked a bottle of desinfectant handgel. The man who was laying on his bed was eyeing you curiosley but didn't had the energy to ask, the other men were or sleeping or zoning into nothing.

''Before you are going to treat the patient it is necessary to wash your hands with soap or disinfect them, otherwise bacteria can spread to the patient and any further damage must be avoided-'' he nodded but he said: ''what do you mean with that?''

You poured a bit of gel on your hands and on the surgeon, but he looked weirdly at the substance on his hands ''sorry I thought you knew of Leeuwenhoek's his discovery-'' ''ofcourse I heard about his theory, it is absurd!'' ''It's not! Just rub that gel in your hands alright?''

In your medpack were laying handgloves, you picked two and tossed them towards the man. ''Here wear this, clean hand gloves can help against cross contamination. With cross contamination you can spread bacteria from products on other products. ''

You looked up from your medpack towards the surgeon, ''I'm surprised that you don't even argue with me, why?'' He looked surprised at your comment, ''To be honest, I do not really know why. You are talking about things that I never heard off and it makes me wonder if I really have knowledge in what I do. But I still think that bacteria thing is absurd!'' You laughed a bit at his ridiculousness.

''I do think you have knowlegde in your profession, doctor-'' ''Thomas Smith.'' ''Doctor Smith, but I also think that you can learn so much more, so let me show it to you.''

During the rest of your day you showed him how to clean infected wounds, the weather was cooler and you could see the relieve on the men of the faces. You told him tips and tricks how to treat infected wounds, like with sterile honey and how you should wash your hands and your equipment. He got your name and it was pleasant to work with him, he didn't make stupid comments like some of the pigs on this ship and he asked questions when he didn't get something.

''Preferably we like to disinfect our equipment with special substances, but I see that you do not have that and I can't get it for you, so listen very carefully. You can disinfect your equipment with gin or wodka. The alcohol in those two drinks will break down the bacteria, you got me?'' He nodded, ''but you need it to rest it for a whole day. Other ways are to boil your equipment in boiling hot water, bake your equipment or heat up your equipment under a flame. Further everything should be clean your hands, your clothing, the room itself, just everything. And you need to wash your hands regularly and pick new handgloves, dont touch your head or anything with your freshly washed hands otherwise you need to clean it again.''

The two of you were treating the wounded and you couldn't help but to notice how sick some of them were looking, they probably were going to die with the lack of medication that you had. But you did everything that you could do.

It was dinner time and you made sure that Thomas was cleaning his hands afterwards you did too. He looked at you nervous, like he was afraid to say something.

''Y/N-'' ''yes?'' ''Do you think they will make it?'' You looked towards the ground, your eyes not meeting with his. You noticed that some of them were looking bad, like they were on their death trial. ''Some of them, but I'm also afraid that some of them will not make it, 'm sorry. I don't have much medicine left,'' he nodded, his mood getting more depressing. ''All we can do is treating their wounds and making sure that they eat well and let them live their remaining days in peace.''

The two of you were making your way through the mess hall and into the kitchen.  There were already men eating their food in peace, you saw that they stuck by their rank. The Navy men were still giving you dirty looks but you also could see a glimpse of desire in some of them. Disgusted by their behaviour you maked sure that at all times you were alert. Coming into the kitchen you fetched the food that the cook had made for them, it was vegetable soup with pieces of chicken in it.

Thomas and you both had two bowls in your hands and were walking towards the infarmary, in the mess hall you couldn't spot James so you thought he was in his cabin. The men were chattering and there was a gleeful aura. But that couldn't say the same about you or Thomas, oh how they don't know. It wasn't like you were sad or anything but you felt helpless, they really could have lived if only they had the right medication. In Thomas his eyes tears were forming and you could see his lip tremble. Arriving in the makeshift infirmary you set down the bowls of soup by each nightstand and repeated your action untill everyone had gotten their food.

An old man was sitting up in his bed, he picked up his food from his nightstand and tried to eat it. He picked up the spoon with shaking hands and you saw that he spilled some on his shirt.

''Sir, let me help you,'' you walked towards the man and sat on the empty spot of his mattress.

''You know, when I got my shaking my wife helped me. But after her death,'' tears were falling on his cheeks. ''After her death, I was on my own and it has gotten worse. I really miss her.'' choked he out. ''I understand, it has gotten lonely isn't it?'' You took the bowl from the man and feeded him, ''yes it really is.''

''The loneliness is not so bad when I'm around these boys, you know? You get distracted easily, you chatter or you you're doing your job. But when you and your thoughts are alone, you're going to think and think. And then you're thinking about your loved one, how you miss them or what their voice was like and then you are suddenly aware that they are really dead and not just upstairs or something, you know? You get reminded of your loneliness and you get reminded that you can never speak to them ever.''

''I completely understand what you're saying sir.''

he didn't say anything for a couple of minutes, after he finished his soup you gave a light squeeze in his hand.

''You lost a loved one too?''

''Yes sir, multiple.''

''I'm sorry for your loss'' he said to you and he gave a light squeeze into your vibranium hand, just like what you did to him earlier. He didn't noticed that he gripped metal or if he did he didn't said anything about it.

''Thank you sir. You too.''

''You can call me Gary,'' he gave you a reassuring smile.

''Okay Gary, you can call me Y/N.'' and you smiled back.

You stood up from his bed and you walked over to Thomas, he was feeding another patient of yours.  he was sitting on a bed and you kneeled beside him and whispered: ''Thomas I'm gonna find the Commodore and I'm gonna inform him about the statics.''

''Alright,'' you heard him softly whisper to you. You took the stairs and walked towards the deck of the Dauntless, on the furthest point of the ship you could spot two people discussing things with each other. The more you closed the distance the more you noticed the figure of the Commodore.

''Commodore?''

The two turned around and James noticed the raggy old Navy suit that you had on.

''Yes?''

''We need to talk it's about your men.''

''I will let you two alone then,'' said Groves to the both of you and maked sure to leave.

''Y/N, what is wrong with my men?''

You were mulling about how you should say it, but it was for the best that you said it straight forward.

''Some of them are not gonna make it, they are gonna die in a few days and sadly there's nothing to prevent this.''

His face fell and you could see the cracks of emotion through his awkwardly stiff posture.

''There's nothing? Have you looked into our medicine shelve?''

''Yes I have, but most of them are highly addictive and don't kill what needs to be killed.''

He deeply sighed and runned a hand over his face.

''Have you told them?''

''No I did not, I'm planning to.''

He excused himself out of the conversation and walked downstairs having a last conversation with some of his crew.

The Devil Judge - The Finale

A dystopian law drama w/a good concept that ended up underwhelming due to terrible writing. The star studded cast made up that fault with the likes of Ji Sung and Park Jinyoung.

Min and Jung has a previous conversation about the live show court trial. They team up so that they could stop this madness with the Supreme Court and with the SRF Foundation. Jung request that Min should keep an eye on someone and that someone is Ga-On. He requested Ga-On during their early meetings to be the Judas for Yo-Han. Min hated Yo-Han for ruining the country so he wanted to attack him by revealing his family affairs. He wants to drag Yo-Han down. He affirmed it when he was at the hospital and Jung visited. But Min didnt know how crazy Jung was and killed Soohyun. He said that Soohyun is like a daughter to him. Min said didnt he want to stop Yohan at all cost, that includes Soohyun too. Jung said that there's no going back now and they're close to ending the chaos, and questions if he wants to be remembered.

Min needed to become a monster to stop Yohan. Gaon then calls him a dirty hypocript and Min calls the security. Gaon is in pain that he just let Soohyun die just like that. Gaon was taken away by the security. Gaon tells Jinjoo that the foundation has set this all up and she wants to help.

The SRF team congratulates Jung for having Min to their side and Heo is in silence waiting for her instructions. He's literally her dog. They then talk about Yohan's mental mind now that he's in prison, he's out of his game. If he disappears quietly, they assume that everyone would be happy. Jung thinks otherwise, if he continues to say things she threatens him to step down. The SRF team continues to praise Jung. Jung discussses with her righthand woman on how Heo changed his personality completely and finds it fishy. She probably underestimated him and there's something else. She then request to check the status of the moving of the residence to the Dream Village.

Chief Ward meets Yohan to have discussiona t the office. Yohan disrespects the Chief  but the Chief warns him that this is not a live court show and that he's in prison.

Lawyer Ko talks to Gaon and how much of an idiot he is. He doesnt know if he can continue to trust Gaon with what he's done. Gaon is asking for help. Gaon wants to go expose the Dream Village and plans to go alone. Lawyer Ko warns him that there's tone of security but he can go to the Medical Center, but no way he can exit out. Gaon says just let him in. Also warns him that the media is on their eggshells and it's not anymore a free media. Gaon though has come up for something and request to get him 1 thing.

Gaon explains to Elijah in a letter that she didnt do anything wrong and promises that Yohan will return and that it wouldnt take long. He tells her to eat well to not get sick so that Yohan wouldnt worry. She then cries and eats her food to recover.

At the prison, Yohan and Juk breaks out a fight at the courtyard.

Gaon then enters through the Dream village by using the food truck inside a box. He then observes the restricted area and records using a small video device. He sees alot of people lying down sick surrounded by nurses and guards. He goes through the wards and surprisingly sees Ms. Han, the woman who sided with Yohan during the live courtshow. All of a sudden the President arrives at the facility. Theyre testing a new vaccine and the number of people that survived is 182. President requests about the behind payments of all the countries. Clinical trials are in high demand. President tells them when a person dies through the trials they collect all the well organs and export them as byproducts. Nothing goes to waste. Gaon silently watches them laugh maniaclly in disgust. The SRF and Heo talks about Jung behind her back, they plan to outs her. Gaon plans to escape with Han but was got caught with a nurse but saves himself that he's checking her vitals. The nurse recognizes him and actually helps him. She has been waiting for some help and said that their phones have been taken away. Also said that there's some sane people in the center too. She promises to help.

Breaking news that Yohan has been arrested for instigating murder is dead. He was stabbed by a assailant. Both co-judges are left in shock. Same goes to Jung. She's in shock but calms herself that it was done because of her. Jung will be President and Min would now be Chief Justice. He did a press conference instead of a inauguration. Oh was able to catch up with Min and tells him that Jung wants to meet him at her office, this is a set up. Gaon tells her to leave the building and requests her to go. SRF team celebrates at the live court set with Jung at the top of the judges seats. Gaon then captures Min and ties him up at the office with a bomb around his body. Since when did Gaon become so violent. Its a plant and the media will receive news about exposing the Dream Village with his name on it. Yohan suddenly appears and saves Gaon on time. The death news was fake and that Yohan had to dig out to save him. He reminded me of Batman at some point here. Yohan was able to get out by threatening the Chief with his corruption and crimes for the last 30 years. Mentions the Chief that the money is not with him anymore. Yohan tells him to save himself is by doing his specialty for swapping prisoners. Just give him 24 hours. Lawyer Ko enters and tells him that he couldnt tell Gaon everything. Yohan tells him that he was able to return the Chief a favor but not in the form of cash but through charity.

While the SRF is celebrating the lights and the screen suddenly went on with Yohan on the screen. Jung realizes that he is alive and so does the rest of the team. Its revealed as a solemn trial. Yohan starts a live trial and its the final trial with the entire SRF team being exposed with the Dream Home Medical Center. Looks like Jung doesnt know anything about it and asks the team about it. Even the conversation Heo had with the team regarding the citizens. They also show that Jung has killed innocent people in the way to fulfill her ambitions and to attack him. Min is attacked too as a betrayer.  Min is let go by Gaon but tells him that his name is tarnished forever and he will live awfully for the rest of his life. That's a better punishment and more realistically given too. 

There was a proper punishment given and Yohan announced that there's a bomb then leaves to go to the trial set. Yohan reveals that Gaon was the one who helped exposed and will testify to tell the whole truth. The bomb is planned and Yohan will sacrifice himself along with the foundation. Yohan asks them if the moment reminds them of the fire incident. All of them trying to escape. Only the fastest person survives. Jung calmly comes up from her seat with a gun on her hand. Heo complains that he is the President and Jung shots him due to annoyance. She also tries and aims the gun at Yohan. Yohan tells her that its the both of them till the end. Tells her to come with him till death. That's the only way she'll be with him, which is quite tragic. Jung says her final goodbye to Yohan and shockingly shots herself to death, like how Ms. Cha did. Gaon then appears at the end, tells Yohan to stop and think of Elijah. Gaon in the end will be the hero and Yohan pushes him out. Will Yohan survive the bomb explosion? He needs to be alive or Gaon will end up with nothing. Well he still has Judge Oh and Elijah at least. Gaon wents back to the mansion and ses the blueprint of the bomb explosion, there has to be a escape route for Yohan. Yohan tells him that Gaon must do something for him. Housekeeper tells Gaon that Yohan stopped by and tells her she's fired and asks for Elijah. Yohan tells Elijah that they're going to move out to somewhere safe and its a rehabilitation center in Switzerland. Gaon then finds out that Yohan is actually alive.

Gaon was set in a trial with the comittee. Gaon inwardly thinks that nothing has changed at all and is confused on what to do now that the country doesn't need Yohan. Yohan secretly bids goodbye to Gaon and he then quickly realizes it. Captures him on time from afar. The 2 men bid each other goodbye which then ends the drama.

Thoughts: If you like stories like Batman or The Hunger Games this would be the drama for you. The writer seem to took inspiration from both works. I think Yohan is like Batman/Katniss while Gaon is like Peeta. Oddly reminds me of the finale alot with the similarities of the characters. Or sometimes Gaon acts like Katniss/Peeta both. Just remove the whole romance aspect of The Hunger Games. There's quite a few angst moments of Yohan and Gaon. Gaon all of a sudden cares for Yohan. The writer tries to include those similiarities with the 2 characters. Yohan wants nothing more than revenge. Then the rest of the SRF are like the trial players or could be the government too. They try to copy the brutality of the hunger games the games itself with the fire incident and the finale of the drama. All trying to save themselves from death.

Messed up the ending. What I wanted most from this drama was for people to rise up to protect their country, because its the job of people to protect their country not the job of one or two people like Yohan and Ga On. Also they didn't even show the aftermath of the last trial. What happened to that dream house project and what was the people's reaction about the live trial? Assuming the whole time it was filmed. What did they think of Yohan after that? Alot of afterthought was left out.

Rating: Story: 3 (Great until episode 12 onwards) Production: 2 (Locations and the offices were ok but not meant for the dystopian feel they were trying to sell. Could've been more modern looking set) OST: 1 (BGM is spot on and fills the scenes well, dont like the rock portion of the OST) Acting: 4 (Mainly because of Ji Sung) Character Development: .5 (Main cast are 1 sided and no room or little improvement) Overall Enjoyment: 1 (The drama's tone is consistent throughout despite the bad writing) Total Rating: 2.5/6
