Character Interview: Epitome

I couldn’t resist, I love my tiefling wizard daughter.

Saw @s0tc’s post tagging anyone interested, and knew I had to go for it. Not sure who the hell would be interviewing her, but I’m interested in playing around with her written voice, so we’re doing this anyway.

For the mutuals who are my party members in this campaign: some backstory spoilers follow. I tried to keep them fairly vague, but there is some info here that you don’t have yet. Just a heads-up.

GET READY FOR A LOOOONG STORY!

Back in early 2018, a past friend had mentioned botw but I never looked into it. Idk what came first, my friendo, @brckenhymns adding Revali to their muse list or me sending a pic of him and I was asking if it were an edit.

PLEASE UNDERSTAND I DIDN’T KNOW WHO THIS WAS. I HAD NEVER SEEN HIM BEFORE! THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME I HAD SEEN HIM.

I thought this was an edit of Falco [[ before I knew of the joke, I was looking up Falco bc a different muse has a huge crush on Falco ]] but my friendo cleared things up as you can tell by my conclusion.

Then my Duck \ Darian muse got shipped with Revali and because of that, I had to learn more about botw so I watched a 10hr video playthrough of the game. When Teba popped up, I also thought “Why is he an arse too?“ But I didn’t get an interest in writing him until July when I kept thinking about him. That’s usually the start, when the character is on the mind. I was leaning to ‘No, I shouldn’t‘ bc I figure most botw peeps would much rather thread with Revali than Teba. I tend to have this mentality. But to truly answer the question, what inspired me? Boredom.

Ngl, July 27th I was invited to a free show that didn’t start until 7:30 and we have arrived at 4:00.... I’ll try not to rant but the friend who had invited me had a Meet and Greet at 5:00 so while she was gone, she left me alone with two of her friends that I had never met before and while they were eating, I was on my phone and said “.... I’m bored af here, might as well make that Teba blog I’ve been on the fence about!” and so I did. I left the concert at 9 and it hadn’t ended btw.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE ASPECTS OF YOUR CURRENT MUSE : He’s canonlly a father and is married. All of my other muses [[ Aph England, Gaara, Sasori, Branch, Sly, Danger Duck, etc ]] are single with no children in canon. He’s actually a dad, he has a wife which are aspects I sometimes forget when I watch him because I’m used to muses who are alone. Aside from that, I enjoy that he’s a quieter muse, mostly likely one who won’t raise his voice, one with a calm anger. I do love that he has this permanent resting judgement face.

WHAT’S YOUR BIGGEST INSPIRATION WHEN IT COMES TO WRITING : Plotting with others over the possible outcomes between our muses. FAVORITE TYPES OF THREADS : I love that bone and heart crushing angst but I also like friendships and developing but my favorite will always be action \ sparring threads. BIGGEST STRUGGLE IN REGARDS TO YOUR CURRENT MUSE : Mmmmm.... It would have to be figuring what he would and wouldn’t do. He’s not ashamed of anything nor does he feel like he has an image to keep but I think he has things he rather keep hidden and I hope the reasonings are understandable and not childish? The biggest one is his singing.

hi akka! 🥺 it's been very long 😔 since i've talked to you. how are you? i hope you are doing good!! my boards are coming and they start from 27th april and i'm freaking our because first up is english and i suck at it :( but i'm confident that i'll do good, like not that confident but yes, i'm this much 🤏🏻 confident, hehe.

i've been preparing for boards all these weeks and finally got free time today. we had our farewell on 23rd april 😆😆 and i had so much fun but couldn't take much photos with my friends. i took only with friends i know and love. i didn't want to take photos with my love because if things didn't work out,😲 i'd see those pictures and feel upset that why was it not me with me? i'd really feel sad. ☹️

and for the boards, we have seating arrangement and my roll number and his roll number are in succeeding(?) order, like one after the other and i wish to sit behind him in the same class T_T 😁 this month has been good and bad because i stressed over exams and not feeling loved. i almost tried to move one because i've lost my patience but my heart hopes for it. 😔😔😔

i hope may will be the best month of this year, but you know we have so many days gap between each exams — like 4 to 5 days and for math we have 8 days which is on 5th may. and for information technology (IT) which is the last exam, 24th may, we have 7 days for that again and there is not much to read for IT.

i am wishing to do well in my boards 🦋🦋 and hope to score a good percentage. i'm scared from where the questions will be coming and i'm shitting my pants because i'm not good with maths :(

anyways at the end of the month, i have realized that "your first choice will always be your last choice" like i don't get this but it feels like real. 🤯

and i'd text you again once you reply this ask and how were your weeks since last i have talked and we got a fucking jaywon live T_T i was pretty shocked. and the second or third jaywon selcas 💘💘💖 too. how did you spend jay's birthday btw? i didn't do much but just told to myself "happy birthday jay" 💝 and wonki's mix and match 😔 they slayed. I’m so sick of seeing, “If Kavanaugh lied, then yeah, we shouldn’t nominate him to the Supreme Court” type arguments, from Senators, from others in government (particularly Trump), and from any number of people on the internet. They’re in such bad faith and willfully misrepresent what feels like fucking everything about this situation it’s infuriating.

Like, the fucker already lied! He committed perjury multiple times in the hearing on Thursday alone. This isn’t some ridiculous stretch for an association. These acts of perjury are readily identifiable by a layperson with no specialized knowledge if you just watch the relevant parts of the damn hearing. (There are other lies he told, but some of those require paying attention to info coming out in the news as well; I’m trying to make this as simple as possible.) And they’re about relatively trivial things. If he’s willing to lie about those, then it’s reasonable to think he’s willing to lie about more serious things, too. And if things I’ve seen online are accurate, he also committed perjury in previous hearings during the nomination process.

Okay, okay, so maybe they mean, “if he lied about sexually assaulting Christine Blasey Ford, exposing himself to Deborah Ramirez, and the accusations of facilitation of and participation in gang rape made by Julie Swetnick, then yeah, we shouldn’t nominate him.” Fine, I’ll play that game:

First, there’s likely no way to definitively prove these accusations in the way that Kavanaugh’s supporters say they’ll be satisfied with. However, more and more information and statements from people who knew Kavanaugh at Yale and Georgetown Prep, and who know what the culture of those places at the time was like, keep coming out. From what I’ve read, these statements unanimously contradict Kavanaugh’s claims about himself and paint a consistent picture of someone who regularly drank to excess, who became belligerent while drunk, who likely performed abusive and violent sexual acts while drunk, and who was highly engaged in a social culture that encouraged and endorsed such behavior. Based on other things I’ve read deconstructing and analyzing his testimony and other evidence he provided, this piece in particular, it is very probable that he did the things he’s been accused of doing, whether or not he remembers it.

Kavanaugh himself was apparently aware in advance of at least one of the sexual assault allegations, as it’s been reported that he and his team contacted old college friends to ask them to provide statements supporting him re: Ramirez’s allegation, before the article that first made those allegations public was even published (this is also one of Kavanaugh’s instances of perjury, BTW, as he said in the hearing on Sept. 27th that he had no idea about Ramirez’s allegations before they were published). Why would he even think to anticipate and try to head off Ramirez’s allegation if he never did it?

Second, why is lying about, or being guilty of, this particular thing the only disqualifier? What about Kavanaugh’s multiple, blatant acts of perjury (which is a felony)? He willingly and knowingly committed perjury multiple times at this single hearing. How is that in any way acceptable for someone who wants to be a Supreme Court Justice? What about his intentionally misleading Senators by misrepresenting things throughout the hearing, which may not technically constitute perjury, but certainly indicate that he came into this proceeding in bad faith from the beginning? What about his repeated dodging of even simple, straightforward questions from committee Democrats? How are these things acceptable for a Supreme Court nominee?

What about the ridiculous outburst that constituted his entire opening statement, which clearly demonstrates that he doesn’t have good judicial temperament? And don’t give me the line about, “Well, look at what he and his family have been through since Ford’s allegation was made public.” Ford and her family have been through just as much. And she conducted herself with great poise and control throughout her entire interview, despite clearly being emotional while recounting past trauma. And Kavanaugh is the one who is a trained judge, who is familiar with and comfortable in a courtroom/hearing setting. That he is unwilling or unable to exercise the restraint and control required for good judicial temperament is noteworthy. You’d think this is when he’d want to be absolutely sure to be on his best behavior, not his worst.

What about his baldly political and partisan conspiracy theory claims about where the sexual assault allegations came from and why? Such claims, and his combativeness exclusively toward the Senators from the party he ties to those claims, the Democrats, is completely unbecoming of and inappropriate for a nominee to any judgeship, let alone a nominee for the position of Supreme Court Justice.

How are none of these other things disqualifiers for Kavanaugh’s supporters, both those in the Senate and in the general populace, regardless of the provability of the sexual assault allegations? The answer that seems to make the most sense is that they don’t actually care about any of those things, or that they’re willing to overlook them for the sake of getting their blatantly political and partisan nominee on the Court. Why else would all of the Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee vote to advance his nomination to the full Senate despite all of the above (again, including the explicit disqualifier of fucking perjury), unrelated to the sexual assault allegations, that were clearly demonstrated in the hearing? Even Flake, despite his call for an FBI investigation. He’s said he doesn’t approve of these things and that we need to do better, yet nonetheless voted to move Kavanaugh’s nomination right along.

I mean, I don’t like thinking that one of the two major political parties in my own country--with the full support and endorsement of its base--is this baldly and unashamedly conspiratorial and corrupt in the worst way, to the point of being perfectly happy to demolish the integrity of all three branches of the government if it suits their agenda. But when I see shit like this by Republicans, yet one more instance in the ever-growing context of everything that’s gone on even well before Trump became President, shit that’s so fucking obvious if you just pay even an iota of attention, it’s hard to draw a different conclusion.

End of the year asks

No one tagged me, but in my dash popped up some really great questions from @magikyle so Imma do it

1. The song of the year for me is Call it What You Want

2. Obviously the album of the year is reputation are you kidding me

3. My fav musical artist I started listening to this year is dodie (Google her she's a youtuber/singer/songwriter and she's so intelligent and beautiful and kind and talented)

4. My favorite movie this year was Spider-Man Homecoming. I saw it three times, Tom Holland is my fave Spider-Man, it made me laugh, it was just so enjoyable, A+

5. Fav TV show was stranger things because unpopular opinion here I actually liked S2 better than S1

6. Actor of the year is either Noah Schnapp, Gina Rodriguez, or Tatiana Manslany

7. The best month for me this year was either July or December

8. Something that made me cry was mental health (usually my own)

9. A new friend I made this year was Elisa. On Tuesday I just got back from a 13 day stay in patient at Bellevue Hospital because of a suicide attempt on November 27th. Elisa was my roommate for five days and we bonded so quickly. I am now back home but she's still on the unit and I really miss her but she is so awesome I love her so much and I miss her

10. My birthday hasn't happened yet but alas only 10 more days! (The question was how was your birthday this year)

11. My fav book I read this year...I read so so many great books but I have to give it to They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera or Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Abertalli

12. The thing I most excited for next year is new possibilities.

13. Something I learned was that you are so much stronger than you think and it gets better is not just a cheesy statement but really is so true

14. My favorite place I visited this year was Paris 💙 🇫🇷 Je'taime, France

Like any other ship week, Saiibo Week is a week-long list of prompts used to make fanworks celebrating Shuichi Saihara And Kiibos relationship! Usually in romantic context, but it can be platonic if interpreted as such as well!!

Hey Rose, aside from Chanukah, what are some other ways to show that Darcy is Jewish? Thank you!

So this depends on a few things, including how religious you think Darcy is. Everything I’m saying applies to any character, btw, but I’m tailoring my responses to a young unmarried Jewish woman living in NYC with primarily non-Jewish friends, which - hey - I’ve got plenty of experience with!

Options include:

Holidays

Hanukkah (Chanukah is fine, transliteration from Hebrew is weird) is obviously a big one, but it’s not the only one.

Darcy is very likely to know when certain holidays are. The big ones are Shabbat, Rosh Hashana, Yom Kippur, Hanukkah, and Passover. If she’s one step more observant, she’ll at least remember (if not observe) Sukkot, Sh’mini Atzeret, Simchat Torah, Purim, Shavuot, and Tisha B’Av. She may or may not remember yahrzheits, Tu B’Shvat, Yom HaAtzmaut, and Yom HaShoah. Unless you’re making her super religious, she is highly unlikely to pay attention to Rosh Chodesh (the start of the month), the ten days of repentance, Tzom Gedalia, the tenth of Tevet, the fast of Esther, and the 17th of Tamuz.

Technically, in Judaism, the major holidays are Rosh Hashana, Yom Kippur, and the shalosh regalim (three holidays) of Sukkot, Passover, and Shavuot, with everything else being a minor holiday, but that’s not really how it shakes out for modern American Jews of Darcy’s age - Hanukkah and Purim especially get elevated while Sukkot and Shavuot especially get lowered.

She will also observe American holidays. Her family almost certainly has Thanksgiving traditions and she may have established traditions for Halloween, Christmas, New Year’s, and July 4th as well. Halloween, Thanksgiving, and July 4th are celebrated like any other American family with the possible addition of keeping kosher - I’ll discuss those rules in the food section. Christmas is often celebrated by going to a movie and eating Chinese food. New Year’s is identical to other Americans.

So let’s talk the five big holidays in detail. For dates and some more information, I strongly suggest this website, and if you have questions about what the options do, always feel free to ask.

You can debate all you want about whether Shabbat counts as a holiday, but it certainly counts as a holy day, so we’re including it. Shabbat is the sabbath, and is traditionally celebrated by doing no work from sundown on Friday to sundown on Saturday. (All Jewish days start at sundown and end at sundown.) You light candles, say blessings over wine, handwashing, and bread, and have family meals, especially on Friday night, and services at synagogue are bigger than they are during the week. Darcy may or may not have found a synagogue she likes in NYC, and she may or may not have attended one at home. But she will think of Friday/Saturday as the sabbath, not Sunday.

Now, no work includes no electronics. Darcy…does not strike me as the type to give those up for a day every week. And honestly, unless she grew up either Orthodox or on the very far observant end of Conservative, she probably wouldn’t have growing up - I didn’t, for example, but my friend the rabbi’s daughter did, so when we played on Shabbat, we didn’t use electronics or money or any number of other things. She still may have traditions she likes to follow. I know that I don’t do the full Shabbat experience when I’m alone in my apartment, but if I’m home, I light candles on Friday night. That’s one of my observances. When I was a kid I went to synagogue every Saturday morning with my family; when I was in college I went to the college group every Friday night. So even if Darcy doesn’t really observe it, she’ll still think of it as Shabbat.

Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur fall between September 4th and October 12th. They’re the most likely days for Jews to go to synagogue. You know how you get Christians who attend church only on Christmas and Easter? Jews do that on Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur.

Rosh Hashana is the Jewish new year, and is celebrated with round challahs, apples and honey (round foods symbolize the continuation of the year and the world - birth of the world - while honey is in honor of a sweet new year), synagogue, and family meals. Darcy’s family likely has specific traditions - I see my mom’s brother and his kids every year for dinner during Rosh Hashana, as an example, and brisket and matzah ball soup always get served. Darcy may or may not do much for Rosh Hashana, but as an example of a small thing, she might always eat an apple dipped in honey that day.

Yom Kippur is the day of atonement, and it is the holiest day in the Jewish calendar. There are two major fast days (Yom Kippur and Tisha B’Av) and five minor fast days (Tzom Gedalia, the tenth of Tevet, Ta’anit Esther, the fast of the first born, and the 17th of Tamuz) in the Jewish calendar, but if a Jew does only one of them, it’s this one. And by the way, the definition of a Jewish fast is no food AND no water - in a major fast, from sundown to sundown, while a minor fast lasts from sunup to sundown. I personally only observe the one, while my stepfather, who’s a step more religious than I am, observes the two major. You have to be either very observant or Orthodox to do the minors, in my experience.

Yom Kippur will likely also have food traditions - in my family, we eat a very simple meal (chicken, plain noodles, and broccoli) before the holiday, and bagels and lox to break the fast. When the fast ends depends on your observance level - technically it’s sundown, but less observant Jews will push it earlier. If you are under the age of 13 or have a medical condition (including pregnancy or nursing) you are not expected to do a full fast, though you may be expected to give something up - no sweets, for example. Kids generally slowly get used to it over a period of years, and fully fast for the first time when they’re in their teens.

Hanukkah you already know some about, but I can reiterate a bit here. It falls between November 27th and January 2nd, though usually it’s mostly in December. The tradition is foods fried in oil - which especially means latkes (potato pancakes). Darcy will have opinions on if latkes are better with applesauce or sour cream (applesauce is better, imo). Sufganiyot (jelly donuts) and gelt (chocolate coins) are also common. Darcy may or may not have her own menorah (I can’t remember if I brought one to college, but I have one in my apartment for sure) and may or may not light it every night. There’s also the dreidel game, which is kind of boring if you’re not a kid or playing with kids, so unless Darcy is trying to share traditions with the Avengers, she likely won’t play it and probably won’t even own a dreidel.

Passover, which can fall between March 25th and May 1st (usually April), is the big family home holiday. To celebrate, you do a seder (a ceremonial meal with a whole bunch of steps and telling the story and stuff) on both the first and second nights (unless you’re in Israel but let’s not get into that complication). There will be a lot of blessings, telling the story of Passover (in English or Hebrew), discussion of the same points that people argue over every single freaking year (I’m looking at you, four children), a very large meal with a lot of specific foods, and singing. Lots of singing. Probably offkey singing.

If Darcy’s going to go back to her parents for one holiday, this is the likely one, unless she’s got a specific reason to go home for the others.

The other thing about Passover is it lasts eight days, and it has extra food rules. On top of the usual rules of keeping kosher (I’ll discuss those in a bit), you don’t eat bread or anything made with leavening (cookies, cakes, etc.). A lot of Jews also don’t eat kitniyot - corn, legumes (including soy, beans, peas, and peanuts), or rice, but that’s shifting - not eating them is becoming less common. Darcy may or may not keep kosher for Passover at all, and she may or may not keep it the whole holiday. But if she hosts a seder or attends a seder, it WILL be kosher for Passover even if it’s not regular kosher (I have a friend whose family has been known to serve shrimp at their seders but they’d never even consider serving bread).

Traditional Passover foods include: wine (lots and lots and lots of wine), green vegetables (often parsley/celery) dipped in salt water, matzah, maror (horseradish), charoset (a yummy dish made of apples, walnuts, and wine or grape juice mixed together - a lot of people include cinnamon and some go for more exotic varieties), and hard boiled eggs. Lamb used to be common but it’s less common now, and what meat her family eats could be any number of things - but they likely have one thing they do every year, if not more than one. My family always does turkey for one meal, my brother-in-law’s family always does brisket. Matzah ball soup is likely.

Darcy may or may not attend a seder while in NYC, but if she doesn’t, she’ll probably feel the lack. In some ways, this is the central ritual of Judaism.

I’m not going to go hardcore into the minor holidays, but we do need to discuss yahrzheits. Those are basically death anniversaries. If a close family member (defined as a parent, sibling, spouse, or child) dies, a Jew is required to say a specific prayer (kadish) for them for a period of time (30 days for spouse/sibling/child, 11 months for a parent - yes I mean 11, not 12, and it’s Hebrew months, not English), and on five days of every year for the rest of their lives. Those five days are the yahrzheit (Hebrew anniversary of the death), Yom Kippur, Sh’mini Atzeret, the eighth day of Passover, and the second day of Shavuot. Darcy will almost certainly not do this for most family members, including grandparents. But if she had a sibling or parent die (spouse and child are unlikely in most fics), she may for them. I do for my dad - I at least say kaddish for my dad on these days, even if I don’t make it to synagogue, though I try to get to synagogue. Technically you’re only supposed to say kaddish in a minyan (group of ten Jewish adults, men only if you’re Orthodox but screw that, I count women too and so do Reform and Conservative Judaism), but I’d rather say it improperly than not say it at all.

Food

On to food!

Darcy may or may not keep kosher, and honestly, unless she’s really observant, it’s highly unlikely for her to keep fully kosher.

Main rules of keeping kosher:

No mixing meat and milk (some people extend this to waiting after meat before eating milk, because they mix in your stomach) (birds and mammals count as meat, fish counts as parve aka neither meat nor milk, yes I know it’s contradictory and confusing)

Only fish with fins and scales (no shellfish, no eel, no shark, you can debate swordfish because it has scales in some stages but not others)

Only mammals that chew their cud AND have cloven hooves (generally this means beef, lamb, venison are all fine, but pork definitely isn’t and neither are less commonly eaten mammals)

Even if it’s a kosher animal, it must have been killed kosherly and be certified

All food must be certified kosher

Darcy is not likely to keep all of these rules (that last one…no). Darcy may not keep any of these rules, but she also may keep some. There are layers within this. I, for example, don’t eat unkosher animals (no pork or shrimp) but am not super careful about checking at restaurants (I’m sure I’ve had a hot dog with pork in it before). I also eat kosher animals (chicken, beef) that have been killed in unkosher ways, but not on my dishes, which are kosher. I don’t mix meat and milk directly (no cheese on my burgers) but am not super careful when eating out (I don’t check that a bun has no milk before eating it with my burger) and definitely don’t wait between meat and milk.

Darcy may have grown up not keeping kosher at all and chosen to stay that way, or may have chosen to go more kosher (my mom did). She also may have grown up keeping completely kosher and chosen to stay that way, or may have tossed it entirely (my sister grew up completely kosher at home and now eats anything). She also may have started in the middle and moved in any direction.

A note for this: kosher meat is expensive. Seriously. Kosher restaurants are even more so. Kosher for Passover restaurants are practically highway robbery.

Either way, Darcy’s family food traditions may lean American or Jewish, and a lot of that will depend on where you put her growing up. But food is an integral part of Jewish life (there’s a joke that every Jewish holiday boils down to “they tried to kill us, they failed, let’s eat”, which is an exaggeration, though not much of one), so this is an easy place to put stuff. Give her a love for bagels and lox. Have her make brisket on holidays. Say it’s not a real Shabbat without a challah. Give her a taste for gefilte fish. Have her insist on matzah ball soup at certain times of the year. Make matzah brei a comfort food.

Not quite food but related: the main blessing before meals is the motzi, which is what you say over bread. Darcy probably doesn’t say this at any point other than a Shabbat dinner. There’s also benching, which is grace after meals. Darcy may or may not do this at family meals and big meals, but she’s unlikely to do it after every meal, especially when she’s on her own.

Other Jewish Life

Darcy is almost certainly not Orthodox, based purely on her appearance in the films. Basically? She’s wearing pants. Orthodox women do not wear pants, and generally wear skirts that cover their knees and shirts that cover their elbows. Some Orthodox women cover their hair after marriage, ranging from headscarfs to wigs (their husband can see their hair and other women and children can, but not other adult men). This is unlikely to be the case for Darcy.

When in college, Darcy probably at least knew about, even if she didn’t belong to, Culver’s Hillel - its Jewish student organization. They would’ve done at least the major holidays and some of the minor ones (Purim’s a popular one, considering it’s pretty much dressing up in costumes, eating hamantashen [triangle cookies filled with various yummy things but mainly fruit jelly stuff], drinking [you are literally supposed to get drunk], and listening to people read the megillah [which takes about an hour] and booing whenever Haman’s name is mentioned - it’s like if you smushed Halloween and St. Patrick’s Day into one holiday). They may have had a latke-hamantashen debate, which is always fun. They probably did at least some Shabbat dinners, if not every week.

It’s a lot harder to find a Jewish community as an unmarried twenty-something with no kids, but synagogues in NYC are focusing on that age group more than they used to, so Darcy may or may not have attended some events. She probably doesn’t actually belong to a synagogue unless she actually goes every week, but she also may have one or two she’s likely to go to when she does go.

When she goes, she may or may not wear a kippah (yarmulke) or a tallit (prayer shawl). As a woman, neither is required, but I know a lot of modern women who prefer to when they pray. She will likely dress a little more conservatively for synagogue than she would otherwise (be more likely to wear a skirt, for example).

Darcy probably at least went to synagogue occasionally as a kid, and may have had some level of Jewish education. This can range from once a week (if she’s Reform) to three times a week (common in Conservative) to going to a day school (also common in Conservative but even more so in Orthodox, takes the place of regular school, teaches both regular subjects and Jewish ones). The last is more common in certain areas of the country, and may not be at all accessible in others. If she went to day school, she’ll read and speak at least some Hebrew (fluency is unlikely unless she went all the way through high school), but if she didn’t and just went to Hebrew school, she’ll have less - but she’ll still know some words and be able to at least read the letters.

She also may or may not have attended a Jewish sleepaway camp, where you go for either one or two months. Those are more likely to be kosher, and even the less observant ones usually do at least Friday night or Saturday morning services for the whole camp every week.

Darcy may or may not have a mezuzah on her apartment door. It’s a small scroll you hang on the doorframe - you’re supposed to do it in every room, but a lot of people only do one for the house/apartment. They come in all sorts of fun shapes/colors.

She may have attended Jewish weddings and may want certain customs in her own wedding (assuming you want to write one). There are a ton of these and if you want more details, you can ask, but the traditions range from breaking a glass to a specific unveiling to being lifted on chairs to benching after the meal. And there are tons more. It all depends on what the couple does.

If she’s attended a family funeral, it’s likely been Jewish, and included customs from shiva (sitting and mourning for seven days) to specific prayers to ways of burial. If it’s a close relative, she may occasionally visit the grave (I go to Dad’s once a year, Mom goes two or three times a year, but I only visit my grandparents’ graves when I happen to be in Cleveland). Ask me for more details if you want to include a Jewish funeral or grave visit.

Names! Darcy is not a traditionally Jewish name, but she may be named after someone. In Judaism, you only name after people who are already dead, but multiple people may be named after the same dead person - my father’s cousins include Phillip, Phyllis, Francine, Francine, and Frances, who are all named after their grandmother Feiga. But the two Francines are not named after each other. Darcy could be named after a David, for example. She may also have a middle name that’s more directly after someone, or have a meaning associated with it. Her Hebrew name may sound like her English name, but it may also be totally unrelated (i.e. it could be Dara or Dina or it could be Tzipporah or Ayelet) and that might be after someone even if the English isn’t. If she’s named after someone (which is likely even in a tangential sense), she will know who she is named after (my five year old niece and nephew can tell you that his middle name is Abraham after mommy’s daddy and her middle name is Evandra after grandpa’s daddy Eugene).

As you may have noticed, I’ve used a bunch of Hebrew/Yiddish words in this post. This is also likely how Darcy will refer to certain things - she’ll go to a seder, not a Passover meal, though she might explain it to a non-Jew after she automatically says the Hebrew word.

In conclusion, there are a lot of options, depending on how observant you want to make both her and her family, and they range quite a bit! So feel free to use any of these or ask if something else would be plausible!

Emily’s GA Apartment

For future reference, I have compiled pictures of Emily’s apartment in Georgia. She had purchased it by March 30, 2014, going by this (X):

“Kinney’s gotten comfortable in Georgia for now, having bought an apartment in what she calls a “golf cart community” in a town next to Atlanta.”

(It should also be noted that Gimple said he’s had Beth’s death planned since season 4, so he would have cautioned Emily from buying a place: X.) Anyway, this post was prompted by @emilysnorman. In a post I made about Emily’s tweets early in season 5 filming, emilysnorman pointed out that Emily’s New York apartment has wood floors while her Georgia place has carpeting: (X).

The second part of this meta is also based off a post I read over a year ago. I can’t find it now, but I remember the pertinent information, so I researched it myself. If any of you know about the original post, please let me know.

This is the latergram. You can see she’s wearing the same outfit, and she also has the mug. She probably took both pictures at the same time. She likely has many pictures saved on her phone so she can latergram.

Between the end of season four filming and the end of season five filming, Emily performed at Eddie’s Attic three times. She first performed on November 25th. On the 16th, she was in Georgia for the wrap party, and she didn’t post on Instagram between those dates except once on the 21st. She likely was in Georgia that entire week.

By the 27th, she was with her family for Thanksgiving (X).

She was at Eddie’s Attic again on March 17th to promote the rerelease of Expired Love, which came out the following day (X). She didn’t post about her location again till the 20th, confirming she had been Georgia.

She then went to Orlando for MegaCon the weekend of the 21st to 23rd (X). But she missed New York so much that she rushed home the night of the 23rd.

If you were already in Orlando for work, wouldn’t you stay an extra day to rest up and to enjoy the weather? It indicates that she hadn’t been in New York for a while. On March 5th she was still in New York as she was on CBS New York (X) (X). On the 6th, she recorded her interview with MTV.com, which was later posted on the 11th (X).

The following day, she performed in Cherry Hill, New Jersey at Monster Mania (X) (X). This was also posted by delawareonline, one of my local papers, and Emily was so close what the fuck. Why didn’t I know about this? On March 9th, she posted a latergrammed picture.

Then she performed threes from March 11th to the 12th at the South by Southwest music conference in Austin, Texas (X). On the 13th, she was in Chicago for an interview (X), before she appeared at the first WSC on the 14th.

She disappeared on March 15th and 16th, so she was likely in Georgia, as she would have mentioned getting back to New York. If she had a few days off before MegaCon, wouldn’t she just fly back to New York? Why would she stay in Georgia if she had no other gigs?

Emily likely had her three Eddie’s Attic performances to justify her being in Georgia. Her Halloween performance would have obviously been as a cover while she filmed post-Coda. I think in November 2013 and March 2014 she was meeting with TPTB in Georgia. The meetings would have been focused planning and preparing for Beth’s arc. Such preparations would include the rigorous filming, her social media activity, and her answers to interviews she would be asked leading up to and post Coda. They needed to coach her sometime. They probably took her to the studio and put her through secret arc boot camp, which would include getting into a van from her trailer without being seen, tilting her hat the right to hide the bullet scar, saving pictures to latergram, etc. It’s plausible. Writers and actors communicate about their characters and upcoming arcs. She even met with the writers that April 11th.

So now we come to the second part of this piece. On the afternoon of November 16th, 2014, Emily posted a picture from her Georgia apartment. It was in support of Consumed, which aired that night.

Later that day she posted twice about filming the Bulletproof Picasso video:

I remember the post talking about how cold it was that day. I researched the weather for Los Angeles, and the mean temperature that day was 65 degrees.

So on the 16th, the temperature ranged between 55 and 74 degrees, with an average of 65. That water would have been too cold to splash around in, especially since it was the Pacific. I grew up with a pool. It takes a long time for water to heat up, and even if the general temperature is warm, the water will feel much colder than the air. The Bulletproof Picasso was not filmed in mid-November. Its album, also called Bulletproof Picasso, came out in September of that year, and the album’s first single came out in June. With how in-depth the planning and marketing have been for this arc, I would not be surprised if TPTB set this up. They wanted Emily’s first non-music project to be a music video referring to a bulletproof artist. The theme song played; “Beth” was first seen afterwards with the music playing. Since the video also has so many Beth parallels (X), TPTB likely reached out to Train and worked out a deal. The bum pic is in Emily’s apartment, and since the Train pictures are latergrams, that would mean her bum pic isn’t. She was in her apartment, and considering her last scenes were filmed in late August, she would have sold her apartment by then. On the 15th, Emily was in California. She reunited with a friend of hers (X) (X), and she was wearing blue nail polish. TDers later figured out that she was filming her Rockstar video out there (X). It should be noted that the season 5 wrap party was on the 16th (X), and that filming finished right after midnight on the 22nd (X). Beth foot was spotted on the 17th, the day Emily posted from her trailer. She was holding a polaroid of the Bulletproof Picasso shoot, and she wasn’t wearing nail polish. What likely happened is Emily arrived in Georgia on the 16th and spent the better part of the week filming before she finished the Rockstar music video.

Emily still has her apartment in Georgia, because Beth is here to stay. For a long time.

An introduction to me without Harvey...

So I’ll start around 4 years ago, it was my birthday. Of which I had spent alone, not unusual in the relationship I was currently in. The week earlier we had met after work in Prezzo in the Printworks Manchester. It was that day that changed the course of my life and led me to where I am now. Was it the right thing to be getting married he asked, and deep down I knew the answer was no, I had spent weeks on end sleeping downstairs on the couch, claiming insomnia when really I was in a blind panic about how I could possibly get out of this without hurting his feelings and more to the point wasting all of that money!!

Fast forward to a week later, I had been to slimming world for weigh in (at this point I had lost around 3 stone and was looking the best I had for a long time) I had KFC for a treat and spent the evening chasing the cat (which was a dick head btw) around the house who had stolen a chicken bone out of my fully loaded box meal. I knew that despite our best efforts, it was over. Sure enough I came home early from work the next day as did he, we talked and I packed a bag and I left.

I moved back home with my parents for a week before finding a flat on my own. It was then I started to mourn the loss of my best friend, breaking up is a process and strangely it felt like he had died. All those memories and private jokes, buried in a place neither of us would ever be again. I moved into the flat around Christmas and on my first night in there my friend Jenn stayed over, it was our works do. I woke up to what can only be described as an Ewok, and after thoroughly bleaching my bathroom, changing the bed and opening all of the windows, I sat back and thought is this really it? Is this what being single is about? One night stands full of remorse and disgust?

Christmas miserably came and went, I couldn’t tell you much about it, as all I remember was eating a family size quiche to myself on Boxing day and going to the pub. I’d booked the day of work, 27th December 2013 and was getting the internet installed in my flat, hurrah! I decided that now I had the internet, I would give internet dating a bash, as seemingly these days you can only find Ewoks and his weird bald friends in the bars of Manchester. I downloaded POF (plenty of fish) and picked out the best pictures of myself. Wow was this thing good for your ego! Within a few minutes I had message after message! I had replied to the least strange ones of the bunch, then later on that day received a message from Paul.

For what reason I don’t know, we started talking. Constantly, all day and night. He rapidly became the only person I wanted to talk to, we seemed to get each other and bonded over crisp butties. We must have got to know pretty much everything about each other within those two weeks of talking before we finally met in town, at The English Lounge. I spent all day thinking of reasons not to go, half expecting a murderer to turn up and had friends on standby to come and rescue me if he was, any hoo, I got myself ready in a low cut blue dress, tights and some weird sparkly pumps as I was nervous about being taller than him if I had worn boots and my mum dropped me off. I crossed the road and there he was, stood under a little stoop sheltering from the rain and smoking a cigarette. As cheesy as it sounds I just knew, I knew he was the one, he was the crisp to my butty.

We got engaged in May 2015 and booked the wedding for 24th September 2016. On a rare weekend off together in July, the 30th to be exact we went to some caves in Harrogate for the day. After trolling around these caves for a few hours I got in the car and felt shattered, I had a feeling, I couldn’t be could I? Our friends were coming around that evening so when Paul went out to pick them up I did a pregnancy test, and sure enough the faintest blue line appeared “hmmmm” I thought, perhaps it was just the light. The day after I popped out to Asda and bought another £1 test, didn’t want to spend too much as I wasn’t pregnant right? It wasn’t going to be that easy for me I’d always thought. I popped upstairs took the test and started frying an egg for my breakfast. The minutes passed and it was time to check, I flipped over the test, and dropped the frying pan, hot oil and half cooked snotty egg all over the floor. SHIT. I’m pregnant.

NO! no no no! This wasn’t in the plan, the plan was to get married in my beautiful and very expensive wedding dress. WHAT IF IT DOESN’T FIT? My mum is going to kill me. So I cried, I cried and cried and cried. Why I don’t know, because this was the plan, babies were always in the plan but it wasn’t in the order I had wanted and seeing those two lines, even if it is in the plan is terrifying. I phoned Paul and explained what was going on, he was so happy! “But it’s got to come outttttttttt” I wailed down the phone, dramatic as always!

£50 later I turned up at the doctors and emptied out 15 tests from my handbag, all which said positive. But I hadn’t missed my period yet, so I didn’t fully accept I was pregnant until I missed it, I went to the races the Friday after and had a vodka and two cigarettes. I still feel guilty about those cigarettes and the harm they could have done.

Over those next few early weeks of pregnancy, we finalised the last parts of our wedding, our close family and friends knew and my 12 week scan was booked the day before the big day. My hen do was supposed to be a large druken affair in York with the different friend groups I had scraped together. Struggling with the pregnancy news and also the stresses of the upcoming wedding, the hen do had to change, I couldn’t go on a booze filled weekend with a large group of girls without them all finding out so I messaged my bridesmaids and changed it. I lost alot of friends. I lost alot of friends due to my behaviour and the reaction to that, I couldn’t go on the hen do I had wanted because I was pregnant, as brattish as that seems, I was upset. I had never had a big group of girlfriends and I couldn’t wait! I took my frustrations out on the wrong people, one in particular. I still miss her now (the others too in a way) but part of me thinks it’s too late for an apology.

The wedding day came and went, it was everything we had hoped for and apart from Paul’s crazy mother (maybe more on her another time) it was easily the best day of our lives.

All of the above leads me to now, as I sit here with my snoozing 7 week old, mum bun and tracksuit bottoms. I had cookies for tea (I will get back to that slimming world at some point) and I have sick on my vest top. All of those events led to me being a wife, a step mum and most importantly a mummy and this is my space on the internet where I can be free, I can talk about how terribly lonely it is at times, how amazingly beautiful and clever my little boy is, how every day spent with him is a huge mixture of emotions and how I have changed and grown as a person. Maybe about the things I like too!

this year I themed the list around out-of-game/non-despair style stuff, as i stuck more with ingame for the last two lists! (but that doesn’t mean you can’t theme it around ingame if you want to btw!) i still kept all the prompts vague as hell though cuz I really LOVED what people came up with last year when I made it vague, it gives a lot of creative freedom not being specific!!! AND ALSO it’s still hopefully writer friendly bc of that as well!!! I usually try not to make AU designs or like. specific outfits prompts in recent years cuz!!! it’s not super writer friendly aha BUT!! THAT MEANS THAT THEY CAN LITERALLY BE IN ANY AU OR IN ANY OUTFITS YOU WISH SO!!!! YEAHHH
