Comparing JP and EN Ace Attorney 4
I fell into a rabbit hole looking for some Ace Attorney essays, and ended up finding a barely-reblogged set of posts comparing the Japanese to English text of Ace Attorney 4. I thought it might be interesting to highlight them considering the Ace Attorney 456 re-release.
Parts 4, 5 and 6 are where things get really interesting.
Apparently in Japanese, Ema refers to Klavier as jara jara oniisan (jingle jangle man) and Jarajarashita kenji-san (Kenji means prosecutor).
In Turnabout Serenade, there's a part in Japanese where Klavier (Kyouya) deduces that Romaine LeTouse could not finish his sentence before he died. This doesn't exist at all in English. Japanese: Mokugeki…..Mega….mi (Eyewitness…Goddess) –> Mokugeki ….Mega….Mi(rarenai) (Witness….is not able to see) Kyouya: His last words, the last part was lost to the darkness because the god of death was grasping onto the victim’s throat. What he wanted to say was INCOMPLETE!
Some of the part where Apollo and Daryan discuss Klavier is extremely different in Japanese.
In English, Daryan says: He may look flashy and showy but he’s as straight as an arrow….’Cept when he’s depressed.
But in Japanese, he says: He looks like he’s flashy and stuff but he’s so forward it’s depressing. No…in reality, he’s a gloomy person.
In English, it seems like Klavier is only depressed occasionally, whereas in Japanese it suggests that he's usually depressed but pretends not to be.
I wonder why they changed this part?
Klavier: Interpreter? I’m afraid you’ll have to look elsewhere. I only speak a few phrases, such as, “I love you,” and, “Where is the toilet?”
Kyouya: Interpreter… sorry about that. When it comes to Borginian, I only know a smattering of it.
In English, what Klavier says is not only funny, but also builds his character as a flashy rock star. Why else would he know "I love you"? In Japanese, it's just a straightforward sentence.
And this is something completely unknown to English players:
Daryan: See, me and planes got a difference of opinion. We don’t like each other much.
Dayan: I’m not good with planes. The seats are far too cramped for me.
It makes sense that he'd have trouble fitting his hair in!

Questions for Writers...Characters Edition!
Hi ho what's the dealio! We're back again....with another tag game? I'm outrageous XD! Kidding kidding! But seriously, I'm bored and have a lot to do but no spoons to do them...so I'm doing a tag game instead! Woop woop! And this time, it's a question for writers...characters edition!
As always, I will be tagging my besties @bleepbloopbotz @udaberriwrites @mrsmungus @sliebman10 @fattybattysblog @tsunderesalty @aislinnstanaka @justanotherpersonwhowrites @0nelittlebirdtoldme @mikaharuka @oceangirl24 @lena-hills @kayedium-writes @bees-and-sunshine @danceswithdarkspawn! And of course, open tag to whoever wants to join in!
Now! On to the questions!
🌹 Who is your favorite character? And why?
Trucy! I love Trucy, she is my darling baby. I love her because not only is she silly and chaotic and optimistic, but she's also emotionally complex and intelligent. In my honest opinion, she's the perfect assistant/co counsel for the WAA. Don't get me wrong, I love Ema and Maya! But they really perfected it when they made Trucy.
🌹 Go to all your works on AO3, and on the filters side bar, click the drop-down arrow for “Characters.” Who are your top 5 most written characters?
Naruhodou Ryuuichi | Phoenix Wright (41)
Mitsurugi Reiji | Miles Edgeworth (37)
Ayasato Mayoi | Maya Fey (33)
Karuma Mei | Franziska von Karma (32)
Odoroki Housuke | Apollo Justice (23)
Huh! I expected Trucy to be much higher on that list. Legitimately surprised that Apollo had her beat XD. But yep! These are my top five written characters! Phoenix in the lead damn. You go Phoenix!!
🌹 What characters do you wish you wrote more?
Honestly? A lot! But the two I'll be choosing are Maggey Byrde and Adrian Andrews. Idk why I don't write them much, I do like them enough and they're friends with the characters. I've only written Adrian in one fic and Maggey...never? Which is a shame! Cause these characters rock!
🌹 Which characters do you think you write well?
None. I'm bad at writing all of them
Ahem, I mean. Maya and Franziska, definitely. I think I've written these two so many times that I subconsciously get them, and excuse me if that sounds like bragging XD.
🌹 Which characters do you think you could improve on writing?
Honestly? Klavier. I do like how I write him, but I feel that I write him...too sane? If that makes any sense? I definitely don't write the more absurd parts of his character too much. And I also don't leverage his popularity/rockstar status enough. Idk, XD.
🌹 What character did you at first hate/dislike, but then grew to like/love?
Franziska. I thought she was kinda mean at first. But then I wrote her some more, fleshed her out and got to know her more as a person...and I grew to love her. Yours Truly, Franziska von Karma did accelerate how much I loved her. It was so fun getting into her psyche in that fic, and dear god did it make me love her more XD.
🌹 Which character did you immediately like/love the moment you saw them?
We all know who this is. Trucy, of course! I knew the moment I saw that little ray of sunshine that I'd love her, and I have! She is so amazing and cute and smart and funny and AAA! I just love her so much! Idk what it is about her, I just adore Trucy.
🌹 Which character voice do you have the most fun writing?
Franziska and Maya's. (These two really come in a package, don't they? XD). I like writing Franziska's dialogue cause I like her blunt and formal way of speaking, that's always fun! And I like writing Maya's dialogue cause it's casual and friendly, but never takes away from seriousness if she needs to be serious. If that makes sense XD.
🌹 What character voice do you have the least fun writing?
Any of the AA characters with obnoxiously "smart" or "deep" vocabularies. So Wesley Stickler, Richard Wellington, and Redd White. I swear, I hated writing White's dialogue in Turnabout Camaraderie, and I know I'll hate writing Wellington and Stickler's dialogue.
🌹 Which character do you feel like you’re the most similar to?
Hmmm. None? XD. But if I had to pick, I'd pick Maya. Maya I feel matches my excitable energy, though I don't usually steal from crime scenes XD or get accused of murder. If I ever get a spiky haired lawyer friend then I'll let y'all know!
🌹 Which character do you feel like you’re the least similar to?
Apollo. Apollo is detail oriented and perceptive and I am the...opposite of that lol. He's also very snarky, and while I love that for him, I feel I'm too excitable to be snarky XD.
🌹 Quick! Pick a character and then have them make an AITA post on Reddit, why did they make it and are they the asshole?
UUUUUUHHHH
MILES
And he's asking if he's the asshole for trying to get Phoenix thrown in jail for the murder of his mentor.
(Spoiler alert, he's the asshole)
That's all! To all my besties answering this game and to all the potential players who I didn't tag...have fun!

—Apollo Justice Ace Attorney spoilers!!—
What each character in aa4 would drink most often (I’m the authority bc I say so)
Beanix: Grape juice of course, man’s a full on alcoholic
Apollo: Black coffee or iced tea
Kristoph Gavin: Water with a splash of lemon juice. he’s pretentious, definitely drinks a lot of water for his skin, and it’s easy for him to get in jail. But not tap water, he’d make them buy like fiji water bottles for him and he’d pour them into crystal glasses.
Klavier Gavin: All the Gavinners have a brand deal for some pop drink like Metal Samurai Soda now with real metal flavour! It’s not great but they get paid for every sip they take.
Trucy: She drinks the same pop as the Gavinners bc it’s popular even though she doesn’t really like it that much
Ema: She wants to seem like a black coffee girl but she’s really a matcha frappe with extra whipped cream girl
Wesley Stickler: Black tea for his image but he desperately wants to put milk and sugar in it
Lamiroir: Lavender tea, not too hot bc she can’t burn her throat
Wocky Kitaki: Monster energy. And way too much of it.
Alita Tiala: Makes Wocky buy her some super expensive frilly shit. Like bubble tea from an aesthetic place.
Machi Tobaye: Milk. He’s a milk kid.
Spark Brushel: Mouthwash.
Drew Misham: Paint water.
Vera Misham: Water with lemon juice bc that’s what Kristoph drank when they met up
also thank you barenakedladies for being a consult on this post 😌

7. Favourite Design?
i LOVE Godot's design. both from the perspective of "heehoo funny mask man" and also the whole thing about how his colourblindness would make his outfit the same colour to him as the one he wore pre-coma (not sure if thats entirely accurate but im pretty sure its something like that) hes just. the design of all time
8. All-Time Favourite Character?
i am an Ema Skye fan through and through and will remain as such until the sun burns out and the stars fall from the sky
9. Least Favourite Character?
skipping over one-off witnesses like Benjamin Woodman and Wesley Stickler because i think saying them is a cop-out but i honestly couldnt bring myself to be endeared to wendy oldbag. mechanically shes fun as a recurring witness that cant not give you a hard time but just. shes exhausting to speak to. id kill her with a brick if i met her irl.

Dear Anonymous,
How would that make any logical sense? Women wear other articles of clothing under their clothes.
I've also been to pool parties in my University. The women that swam in a shirt and shorts revealed the least for a reason or do you not know the science behind why your clothing sticks to your skin? It only reveals as much if there is literally nothing under your outer article of clothing.
For women, that is considered indecent to them. You wouldn't catch any lady dead with only a shirt and slacks without anything under both. They don't even wear just their undergarmets under their skirts and for good reason.
- Wesley Stickler

@starrysys IF YOU LIKE BOTH YOU GET BOTH
aa4 is my personal favorite of the mainline series. its not the objective best, but i really loved it. it's got some of the most charming character interaction, and it also just has. a lot of really good flavor text.
flavor text is like my favorite thing in games (see: why i almost cried when i found out they dont let you look at everything in dual destinies) so its just super fun for me. i love the flavor text a lot. like you know that whole analysis i wrote of the security cameras in aa4 and how the flavor text reflects apollos character development? yeah that was just born from me being like "huh this flavor text doesnt match how it was in older games it seems more focused on- WAIT".
the sprite work is the best its ever been (and sadly, ever will be), trucys mr hat animation is genuinely the best animated sprite in the whole series and i love it, and while the style is a lot less unique (they thinned out and smoothed the lines, switched to a more appealing cell shading style, added more frames in sprite animations, etc), it's still super charming.
the story is uh. the weakest part BUT I STILL REALLY LIKED IT!! it feels a lot more like slice of life than any other game in the series. like the trilogy is pretty good with its underlying mysteries, and dual destinies functions as a good "you're probably wondering how i got here" sort of thing by starting with the courtroom bombing than flashing back, and i haven't played soj so i have no opinion. but apollo justice's story is pretty uh... nonexistent. there's no real overarching villain, seeing as kristoph is dealt with at the very start (and while he does come back at the end, he's barely mentioned in the other two cases). there's phoenix's "secret mission", but iirc, that's first mentioned in case 3, so it's not exactly a long-lasting mystery. kristoph's motive for the first case could be considered something like that, if it was really hinted at in cases 2 and 3. it's not. most of aa4 it is pretty low-stakes fun. instead of focusing on the story, it instead places a lot more emphasis on the relationships between cast members, and since those relationships are fleshed out and well-written, it pulls that off fairly well.
occasionally things feel like they're going by too quickly, but i will make the controversial take that the switch to two-day cases instead of three was pretty good. it makes you feel more like youre making constant progress, and as someone who has a lot of trouble staying interested in long, drawn-out mysteries, the faster cases felt like a really good change. it's a matter of opinion.
ALSO!!!!!!! THE WITNESSES ARE A LOT LESS OBNOXIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!! the only witnesses that can come even CLOSE to the likes of sal manella are like. spark brushel. and wesley stickler. and even those guys were really funny.
the game does have a lot of issues, phoenix's characterization being one of the biggest ones. it's just hard for some people to adjust to his seemingly sudden shift, but in universe, it's justified. i personally really enjoyed most of his scenes (when i didn't want to punch him, but that was probably intentional). a few of the plotlines aren't really resolved, but that's probably because they were intended for a sequel that instead ended up being dual destinies. it sucks, but hey, what're you gonna do.
overall, objectively i'd give it an 8/10, but my personal score is a 10/10. it's a super fun ride and i loved every second of it.
THE CHARACTER APOLLO JUSTICE IS!!!!!! MY FAVORITE ACE ATTORNEY CHARACTER!!!!!!!!!!!!! HE'S A SILLY LITTLE GUY AND I LOVE HIM and i cant CONVEY how much i love him properly. just read ANY of my apollo analyses. ive put so many of my VERY limited braincells into this little fella!!!!!!!!!
i love how tired he is of everything. i love how autism coded he is. i really love how he keeps going along with things he doesnt care about because he wants his friends to have fun. he's super kind but is hiding it behind a mildly annoyed jerk and/or very professional demeanor and i love that for him. i love how he's constantly trying to be taken seriously and its really not working out for him.
every conversation he has with athena in aa5 is adorable and/or hilarious. LIKE????? IT READS AS IF THEY'VE BOTH FOUND SOMEONE WHO REALLY MATCHES THEIR ENERGY!!!!!!! AND APOLLO'S HAVING A LOT OF FUN JUST MESSING AROUND WITH HER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! they are such good friends.
his relationship with trucy is my favorite part of aa4. forget the shipping i just love how they meet each other and he's instantly like "fuck it i guess we're siblings now". hes so worried about her in the first case and hes only really known her for like!!!! a day!!!!!!!!! people talk about the scene where he starts sobbing when trucy fake kidnaps herself BUT NOBODY MENTIONS HOW!!!!!! TRUCY FAKES GETTING ELECTROCUTED ON SOME WIRES AND APOLLO'S REALLY WORRIED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND THEN SHE FAKES CUTTING HER HAND ON A BROKEN LIGHTBULB LATER TO TRY AND MESS WITH HIM AND HE'S ON THE VERGE OF TEARS!!!!!!!!!!!! AND TRUCY NEVER DOES IT AGAIN BECAUSE IT UPSET HIM SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! these little things man.
his relationship with phoenix is one of my favorite points of analysis because of its parallels with his relationship with kristoph. because apollo looks up to kristoph a lot, and in the first case you see him constantly looking for reassurance but kristoph just keeps brushing him off, and yet he's still trying over and over. he respects him so much (apparently in the japanese version he calls kristoph teacher apparently) no matter how much he's turned down or ignored!!!!!!!! that's just so interesting to me like. poor guy just wants some validation. and on the other hand phoenix is overly familiar. he's trying so hard to be a mentor figure to apollo and apollo just. doesn't want that. apollo's so fucking conflicted in his feelings on phoenix because on one hand nick was his IDOL and a living legend but on the other he's a liar and untrustworthy and its just!!!!! aAUFGHYGHTGHHGTGH i need to finish that essay
i have so many opinions on apollo hes just such an interesting guy.
anyways thanks for the prompt, there's my rambles :D !!
ask me about my thoughts on ace attorney things please i beg of you i wish to talk at you loudly about any ave attorney things

i’ve just done the funniest thing i will EVER do for a school project
#we have to make a film for an english project#and my group decided we were gonna do a plastic surgeon who makes killer clones of his patients#so he can make the world beautiful#it was gonna be serious. but then we named him Dr. Orlando and it all went from there#anyways. dr orlando is gonna have a vision board of his perfect world#tonight i made all of the papers that are gonna go /on/ that board#the only story relevant ones are before and after photos of both of the patients he takes in in the story#everything else i got free reign over#so we have:#kill laugh love sign#keep calm and clone on sign#images of shitty people who had plastic surgery that he idolizes#(jeffree star oli what’shisface and those twins. idk if the twins are bad people but twins felt fun)#(also a hapsburg for the insane jaw)#images of fictional characters who LOOK like they had plastic surgery#(spiderus from miss spider’s sunny patch. dr orlando projects onto him like a kinnie)#(also wesley stickler)#a megamind ‘no bitches’ meme#(no plastic surgery? (i realized after that i should have made it say no botox but too little too late)#and a sheet of ‘burn faces’ (stock photos of normal people that he has called ugly and scribbled on. my fav is the group of children)#so. this is my magnum opus and i need to be in the credits for it#i’m already gonna be in the credits for the characters i play but. the kill laugh love vision board i need come on#i can’t go unrecognized on that

unpopular opinion: filler or not, turnabout corner is the best case in apollo justice
#joltext#ace attorney /#turnabout serenade has aspects i really like but it’s bogged down by shitty gameplay mechanics and also questionable writing decisions#like “machi is blind no wait lamiroir is blind. neither speaks english oh wait lamiroir speaks perfect english but machi can't”#“oh wait turns out machi can speak a tiny bit of english after all”#i want to like turnabout succession but i still find the mason system section frustrating and poorly explained#plus it leaves too many loose ends which is frustrating and also leaves me annoyed at the fact that most of them will probably never be#resolved#turnabout trump is possibly the strongest case and definitely one of the best opening cases in the series#but i think turnabout corner is a lot more fun#and i actually really like the way all the seemingly mundane cases end up connected to the murder case#fuck wesley stickler though he sux#turnabout trump is the strongest writing but turnabout corner has so much more character#also turnabout trump is irreparably tainted by having the word “trump” in the title#let’s get this party started legally

im not really sure for which fandoms youre in, but your scrunkly from your preferred fandom? 😭
HELLO 💖 I know you specifically asked for the skrunkly but I wanna do all because I like talking >:)
Hey remember when 6 months ago I said I'm not really "that much" into Ace Attorney? So that was a lie-
Blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most) CHECK OUT MY BIGGEST BLORBO COLLECTION FROM 1 FANDOM YET! These will absolutely fall into other categories too but we got: Mike Meekins, Colias Palaeno, Lay D. Furst and Paul Atishon.... gonna count Frank Sahwit. I have thought about any one of them very much at some point and keep roating them so they all gotta be here.
Skrunkly (my “baby”, character that gives me cuteness aggression, character that is So Shaped) Mike.....🥺 He is absolutely shaped and a sweet little guy... he's 6'2 but still a little guy at heart! Nobody is allowed to be mean to him around me!! He's so adorable and always tries his best, but he's somehow really unpopular in the fandom??? An absolute tragedy. Meekins haters DNI.
Scrimblo Bimblo (underrated/underappreciated fave) To think any of my blorbos are not also scrimblo bimblos would be unrealistic hsgdssdh I'm going off of the status of any of my favs within my friend group who all have unusual blorbos... Colias. EVERYONE FORGETS ABOUT HIM I'M SO SAD!! SILLY BUTTERFLY MAN!!! He's just a little ambassador of a country who is just a little naive and obsessed with giving people coupons 🥺 They were really like "There are 2 butterfly themed people in AA :) *referring to Dahlia & Nahyuta*" and I had to lightheartedly bring Colias to the chat like AHEM!!!!! HELLO!! HDFGHDS
Glup Shitto (obscure fave, character that can appear in the background for 0.2 seconds and I won’t shut up about it for a week) Hmmmmm who's my least existent guy... ... .. . Mr. Furst :( My friend played The great Ace Attorney Chronicles and in one of the first cases of the first game there's.. this absolutely adorable little hatter guy who's just like "Uhm, I make hats, sir :)" and I hold him gently.. 🤲 But he was just a one-off witness which is so SAD BECAUSE... HE'S SO CUTE??? The entire time I was like "omg what if he returns!!!" and then he never did... heartbroken. They bring the OTHER stupid guys back like..... SURE, I WANTED TO SEE FUCKING BEPPO AGAIN??? SAID NOONE EVER- Beppo fans I am so sorry, I should be nicer as a fellow unpopular blorbo haver. Me and my friend did hc the bowler hat juror as his brother and the grumpy tophat juror as their father!
Poor little Meow Meow (“problematic”/unpopular/controversial/otherwise pathetic fave) I think Wesley Stickler might be the most "problematic" one I can think of here. He stole those bloomers for SCIENCE!! Still wasn't right but at least that's a better reason than what most people assume ;( Some might argue that Paul is problematic for the sole reason he's a politician and... yeah that's fair bjdjdshfkj Speaking of..
Horse Plinko (character I would torment for fun, for whatever reason) Mr. Atishon-Wimperson... he's so fun to draw and even more fun to write him getting his ass kicked. I'M HOLDING HIM LIKE AN ICE CREAM CONE!! He's the model politician in that he dodges questions like a mf and promotes his campaign whenever he can. You know I say I hate Rufus from Deponia for his massive ego but this guy might be worse and I love him. How? I don't know, I think Rufus lacks the pathetic vibe I love so much. Paul also won't ever shut up about his great family and how epic his grandfather is. Ngl I feel like he makes them sound all cool and stuff but they GOTTA be fucked up somehow, right?? Not to get off track but when he all confidently said "It's the art of ruling as a king. My father drilled it into my head from a young age." I was like..... .... 😶
Eeby Deeby (character I would send to superhell) Sal Manella. No question, I don't even wanna explain the character he's just gross, he sparks NO joy!! Together with two of the characters from Turnabout Bigtop and SADLY Terry Fawles... smh you could've been such cool characters but nooo!!! The trilogy had to be weird!!!
THIS IS SUCH A LONG POST THX FOR THE ASK ILY!!!
#blorbos#tag game#i don't even wanna tag this as 4ce att0rney because i don't want narumitsu enthusiasts to make fun of me for analyzing#one off witness characters like they're fine wine#but i already mentioned it in the post; it might still show up oh no... anyway!!!!!#if you're mean to me under my own post i am legally allowed to liquify your doorframe#ask game

concept apollo also wore a watch(?) on his bracelet hand
theres also that part in turnabout corner where you can examine wesley sticklers phone and apollo would say smth like "its stupid how he has a clock phone strap when he could just check the time on his phone" so ur honor i say apollo has no need for a watch bc as a 2003 baby hed rather check the time on his phone
#hope i dont seem rude or anything im sharing knowledge :D#b is still the correct option and hed forget to reset his watch for daylight savings and never wear the watch again

hmmmmmmm not a fan of all the tilly and saru hate going around atm. I see a lot of posts saying that saru only chose tilly bc she's easily manipulative and wouldn't undermine him but like??? have we been watching the same show??? saru chose tilly bc he trusts her, she's honest with him, and she was always there to give him advice when he needed it. I think their command is a good match. saru is calm and collected and tilly brings her own perspective to the table - yeah she's extremely bubbly and maybe too friendly to some people but she's also intelligent, capable, and she's tough. she's proven that continously throughout the show.
she's changed a lot from season 1 - but literally most of the crew have???? we see Michael exploring her human side - she's more human, expressive, but she's also much more conflicted, she's dealing with her own issues while trying to settle into this new life. Saru needs someone he can rely on 100% and Michael is going through sm of her own stuff that he's not guaranteed that he could rely on her like that if he were to make her his first officer. Even Michael was split about whether to leave Starfleet and the Federation behind. (That being said I do 100% want to see Michael in the chair - while she has shown at times that she IS a bit too reckless for command there are other times when it's almost like she was made to be a captain ya know???)
At its core discovery is a science vessel, not a military one. Command probably isn't the ultimate goal of the majority of its crew but its all Tilly has wanted since we first met her????? like I don't see many ppl complaining about Wesley's promotion to ensign BEFORE he was even at the academy??? and technically half the aos crew didn't even finish the academy???????
Characters change and develop otherwise whats the point of the show lmao?? We can't keep clinging to season 1 characters bc the whole crew has grown and changed bc of their experiences. Of course saru is changing too, he just went through an evolutionary process that he didn't even know about??? everything he knew about his life, about his abilities, about his entire BEING was all lies. Like obviously he's going to be different?? And everyone saying he's a bad captain??? He was literally JUST promoted and in a new time where EVERYTHING has changed???? Hes trying to safely guide his crew into this new existence. Maybe he's too much of a stickler for the rules but he only recently took the chair - we need to give the show time to explore his new role as captain. Season 2 showed us that Saru ISN'T ready for command. He still has a lot to learn and that was highlighted when he essentially googled 'how to be a good captain' lmao. But also a lot of his basic biological instincts that got him to that position are no longer there, he's not a fearful since the vahar'ai. I'm sure he relied on his threat ganglia to help him plot a course of action or a plan and now that that's gone he has to go on a gut feeling, which isn't easy and probably not something he's used to. but I'm looking forward to seeing him in the chair even more. For me, Saru represents the federation in his own very way. He truly believes in it and he's dedicated to it. And I also think that Admiral Vance's advice will play a role in his transition to command.
Anyways, what I'm saying is that honestly?? NONE of them (Saru, Michael or Tilly) are ready for command. They need to settle into this new life first and understand this new time. People are so quick to judge and tbh its been hard trying to get a good character read when the current season is following sm storylines simultaneously. We keep seeing them thrown into wildly different scenarios and it's difficult to get a glimpse of their character that way. but like I've said I've really enjoyed the season so far and can't wait for the last few eps.

Apollo Justice Cases Ranked
It’s time for my favorite! Yay!
DISCLAIMER: Spoilers ahead! This is also all my own opinion (and subject to change), so please don’t take this as fact or whatever. Also, there are very few cases that I actively dislike, since most of them are extremely good in my opinion. Enjoy!
#4: Turnabout Serenade
Okay, so, I really like this case in concept--Lamiroir is awesome, and the way the murder happened is interesting. In practice, though? It’s... a bit much. You have to watch The Guitar’s Serenade too much, no one believes the FUCKING WITNESS, there’s no feasible way Machi could’ve committed the crime, and Daryan’s hair is maybe the worst thing I’ve seen in my life. I just wish this case lived up to the hype.
#3: Turnabout Trump
I feel REALLY bad about putting Turnabout Trump this low--I love it a lot, but there’s some things I need to address about it. The case itself is wonderful--meeting Phoenix again is a shock, the witness is innocent (a rarity in first cases), and the reveal of the culprit is well done. Unfortunately, most of these highlights only apply to a blind playthrough, and replays of this case make me uncomfortable, though that’s more on Kristoph than the case itself. Sadly, though, I can’t rank this case any higher than number three.
#2: Turnabout Corner
*taps mic* *deep breath* KLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAVVVVVVVVVVV
This case is a personal favorite of mine--it introduced Trucy, grumpy Ema, and my child Klavier Gavin. I also really like the idea of defending a client who’s part of the mob, and Alita Tiala is a really interesting culprit. The worst parts of this case are Wesley Stickler and “Director Hickfield.” Them aside, though, this is a very fun case that brought my OTP to life, and I will always love it for that.
#1: Turnabout Succession
Guess who fucking hates Kristoph Gavin? (Hint: it’s meeeeeeeeeee!)
Despite my hatred of Kristoph, this case is my favorite in the series, and oddly enough, he’s a big reason why. I know a lot of people think this case is convoluted, and I can understand that, but I love it all the same. Vera is a wonderful character, the MASON system was very fun (to me at least), and the plot twists, while some of them were predictable, were still fun and interesting. Vera collapsing on the stand REALLY shook me the first time I saw it, and Klavier’s reaction to Kristoph was (and still is) one of the saddest things I’ve seen in my life. The speech the judge gives at the end is a perfect summary of the series, and Klavier taking down his shitty brother always makes me super proud. I love this case, and I highly doubt there will come a case that I like better.

serious question, could luke theoretically stick his hand in the WAA couches and find hidden hint coins there? and second question, what's luke's thoughts on trucy's magic tricks? (hopefuly better than wesley stickler's reactions lmao)
Oh yes, totally. I’m sure it’s a treasure trove of hint coins. Also I’m sure Luke loves her tricks! He’s a gentleman, so of course, he would find great interest in the little lady’s magic! I’m sure he’s pleasantly surprised and entertained by it and tries to figure out how each trick works.
