Some artists that I think Arthur would really like cuz I'm kinda bored(aka, an excuse to show art history):
John Singer Sargent (1856-1925):
John Singer Sargent is an icon and his composition is legendary. He wasn't that focused on very intense detail as he was with form and it's amazing what he was able to do. Eye catching, yet unrendered. Realistic, yet simplistic. Though he paintings were phenomenal, I think Arthur would enjoy his charcoal portraits the most, though. They are so beautiful and I feel like Arthur would be fascinated by how Sargent was able to use tones to give the allusion of detail rather than actually drawing out the detail. I think Arthur would adore how Sargent made them feel so real with how simplistic the composition is.
Thomas Moran (1837-1926):
Thomas Moran is a landscape artist whose main muse was the vast American frontier. His most famous paintings are that of Yellowstone National Park and the gorgeous Grand Canyon. His oil paintings are colorful and vibrant and have so much emotion to them. Given that Arthur is often outdoors and is super connected to nature, he'd probably really enjoy Moran's oil paintings of higher elevation like canyons and mountains.
Alexandre Cabanel (1823-1889):
Alexandre Cabanel is a portrait artist who created some of the most iconic oil paintings to have ever graced our eyes. His academic style of painting focused a lot on detail and precise rendering, unlike Sargent. Given the general gloominess and the melodrama of his oil paintings, I feel like Arthur would really like the figures that Cabanel painted, especially considering how emotional they are. Arthur, being emotionally repressed, might connect even more with them because of it. Cabanel was a damn genius.
Ulysses S. Grant (1822-1825):
I know some of y'all are like "what the hell is Civil War hero and US President Ulysses S. Grant doing on this list?" Well, cuz he was a pretty dope artist too. In the few drawings we have from him, his main medium seems to be watercolor and his watercolor drawings are really unique. They focused more on composition than detail and they remind me so much of Arthur's own drawings, except they are in watercolor rather than lead or charcoal. I think Arthur might also enjoy how personal they all feel and how simplistic.
Winslow Homer (1836-1910):
Homer was an impressionist painter whose main muse was the everyday man and woman. His oil paintings are vibrant and full of life as they depict the everyday life of workers rather than people of leisure. Unrendered strokes from the brush put so much personality into the paintings and even life. Beautiful and bright paintings, all of them, but I feel like Arthur would connect most with the ones that depict land rather than the ones that depict water.

Wait that hunter and willow struggle with vulnerabilty essay you mentioned... Hand it over 🫵
KXJSK thank you for enabling my brainrot, let's GO 🫡
okay so, for starters, we all know both hunter and willow tend to hide their vulnerability, push down their feelings and repress a lot, but it's actually super interesting how they do it in completely different ways and for such different reasons.
i've already written one essay about hunter's tendency to do that here, but that was a while ago, so let's refresh it up a little bit with season 3.
hunter lived his entire life in the emperor's coven, as a magicless witch at that, isolated from everyone and manipulated. he got used to ignoring and hiding how he felt, because showing vulnerability in the coven was seen as weakness, and showing his real emotions could have genuinely very very bad consequences for him. especially with him having no magic, he was already disrespected and seen as lesser by everyone (for example, the covenheads) but he yearned to be respected, to be treated well, equally; so he couldn't afford to show any vulnerability there. and when it came to showing negative feelings near belos... well. that especially had the potential to take a dark turn really fast; to provoke belos to do something. it was genuinely dangerous for him to express his emotions, it wasn't safe for him at all. he could NOT do it.
his golden guard persona also comes into play here and it's SO interesting how he uses it. masking (in a literal, psychological AND metaphorical sense); using it to feel braver, to act more confident. taking on a role of the emperor's trusted right-hand man instead of the lonely kid that he was. all this... well, surrounded by that hurtful mentality and hostile coven environment, he had to do it; to be more respected, to be able to do things that he had to do, to actually FUNCTION. it was a necessity for his survival.
but here's the thing, he likes to think of himself as a more of a practical/logical/rational thinker, and he IS in general, that is true, but he actually DOES act based on his emotions and moral compass quite often. he's also really good at reading and analyzing people, and immediately getting them. he's oblivious to some things but overall he's emotionally smart, and very very insightful and perceptive....... it might be sth he's naturally skilled at, but he also definitely had to learn it; had to know how to read belos' mood and probably learnt all the little things he had to watch out for on some days, all the little signs to stop talking or look away. all that was, once again, for his own safety. BUT OKAYKXJSKK we're accidentally going off course here so let's go back slightly- hunter is also VERY expressive (which makes sense considering he wore a mask most of the time. ............. also hyper-expressive autism #real #so true—) so oftentimes his emotions are actually (no matter how hard he tries to hide or deny them) well visible on his face, before he manages to school them; although that also depends on the exact emotion he's feeling, some are more visible than others. so this is interesting, how he simultaneously automatically represses/hides some of his feelings and manifests them as something else but also feels everything so intensely and is such an open book based on his initial facial expressions. both of these facts coexist.
so, vulnerability. we already know hunter has trouble expressing his emotions at times. he loves to pretend he's okay when he clearly isn't; and it takes a LOT for him to open up to someone. he only really lets himself be truly emotionally vulnerable next to people he fully trusts and feels safe with, it doesn't come to him with ease.
that's why his scene with luz in the forest shack's basement is so important. that ENTIRE scene, actually. we can really see how much they've grown to trust each other, how safe they feel in each other's presence. what they had going on with their secret-keeping was not really fully healthy at the time, because they kept comforting each other from their VERY similar perspectives/stances, which just further locked in their mentality of "oh they'll hate both of us when they find out our secrets"; they were ensuring each other's fears by relating to each other; it was a circle. but nevertheless, they still cared about each other and have grown to care about each other even more throughout the few months.
here, hunter managed to admit that he was scared. he felt comfortable enough to admit his vulnerability like that to luz since they've grown closer and truly trusted each other with this. he's grown SO much.
and then... the crying scene. i am not exaggerating when i say this is SUCH an important moment for hunter's character, as well as a perfect insight into his dynamic with luz. especially since the thing that jumpstarted his cry was luz telling him he's family now, and that she wants to ensure he's safe too... all his emotions coming to the surface, him finally not managing to keep stuff in, allowing himself to be vulnerable like that next to someone, actually crying and letting it out instead of holding it in or distancing himself in order to go through it alone... it was a big step for him, and it perfectly illustrated just how much he's grown. and the way luz responded to it was also so thoughtful. she was extremely tired and depressed herself, but she still showed worry. she knew hunter needed space to let it all out and avoided crowding him, since jumping at him with worry and questions and hugs would only make it worse and freak him out, but she initiated a delicate half-hug after a moment, non-verbally expressing her care.
but moving on!
now, let's focus on hunter post-flapjack's death.
it's a big, traumatic event that affects and shakes him a LOT. he doesn't feel good, he doesn't feel happy, and that predictably results in the same thing as always..... hunter repressing his negative feelings and masking them as anger. prioritizing helping others and focusing on a mission at hand. not being sure if he's okay or how he feels or how to express what he feels when someone asks.
this is the behaviour we've ALWAYS seen from him in such situations. in season 2a, when he's just generally unhappy even if he doesn't realize it, and appears as angry and irritable... and in labyrinth runners, when he lives alone while dealing with serious life events; distances himself from everything and everyone, and then tries to act as if nothing had happened, and isn't sure HOW to express/talk abt his feelings, prefers to focus on someone/something else instead. andddd at the end of thanks to them after flapjack's death! when he immediately asks if everyone else is okay and jumps in to comfort luz and focuses on taking belos down; on a task. JUST... AUGHH! he prefers to push through his feelings cuz it's a defense mechanism, the same one he's been using in the past; in the coven. it allowed him to survive, and such instinct is not something that's easy to abandon.
so, this entire pattern is so, so clear in how he acts in for the future too. he tries to mask his grief and sadness with anger and coldness. he keeps pushing people (and palismen) away, distancing himself from others, acting irritable, focusing solely on the mission at hand, just wanting to find belos immediately; thinking about literally anything but flapjack or what happened just a few hours prior, cuz it hurts too much to think about it. the sadness and other emotions that accompany him as a result of flapjack's death keep sneaking up on him in random moments, but he fights not to let them through fully. he cannot allow himself to break down right now.
but then, he's alone for a moment, and he allows himself to feel some vulnerability here. he's overwhelmed by what's happening and misses flapjack. and, as always, he doesn't know what to say. he feels everything so intensely inside but he has no idea how to express that on the outside, he doesn't know how to put everything that he thinks and feels into proper words; how to accurately communicate everything he wants to communicate to gus and willow. he struggles with that.
but just like willow had her arc of repression (to be talked about in a second) and finally realized she can rely on other people too and allowed herself to show feelings and vulnerability instead of letting it all consume her from the inside out, hunter similarly let himself show some of that vulnerability to his friends. in the span of that moment, driven by pure instinct and his love for his friends, he managed to put what he'd always wanted to say into words.
he also realized that flapjack is always going to be a part of him in a way (both literally and metaphorically), even when he's not actually there, and it brought him some comfort at last... it didn't heal him or got rid of his grief ofc, there's a long journey ahead of him, but it helped him with the first step of dealing with grief and accepting what had happened.
now, when we compare how he is with feelings right now to how he was at the beginning of the series, he's truly grown so much. he's always gonna somewhat struggle with expressing his emotions and vulnerability, but now that he's surrounded by people who care about him, whom he trusts with his life, who he doesn't fear being vulnerable around, it's going to be so much easier for him. of course, there are always going to be instances where something bad happens and he represses again; his defense mechanism and trauma response aren't going to just instantly disappear like that. but he has people he can be his true self around now, people he can confide in; it's going to help him a lot. and he's going to continue growing, and developing as a person.
.....yeah! okay, now... willow time!!
willow's repression arc has always been always kinda sprinkled in and hinted at throughout the duration of the series. we know she was bullied for a significant amount of time and it affected her confidence a lot, but it also made her repress and push down her feelings.
i'd say her arc almost had... two parts to it. the first one was her coming out of her shell, gaining confidence and embracing her strength. the second one: her struggle with vulnerability and repressing feelings.
meeting luz and transferring to plant track was what definitely helped her with the confidence problem. she flourished (lol) after she was allowed to embrace her interests and strengths. but what remained, was that willow saw her insecurity and emotions as her weaknesses. she even said it herself, she most of all wants to protect everyone she loves (similar to hunter actually), and all-together that resulted in her shutting herself off and just focusing on others' feelings. wanting to be reliable for her friends, seeing herself as the "strong one" in the group; the rock. the mature one.
always pretending she's okay and fine with everything, putting a smile on her face through it all. because after all, she doesn't want others to worry about her, right? (she did it for all emotions too, basically)
especially if we take into account that she was bullied and seen as inferior to others for years + her entire past with amity + just in general her history with the abomination track and the expectations from her dads regarding it, all of it was trauma for willow and she ended up with the need to hide her feelings (something she saw as her weakness/flaws/weak spots) as a coping mechanism. she hated being seen as weak, and after she gained more confidence in herself, that feeling only grew.
in for the future, we could see just how much the suppression was affecting her. she still tried to be cheerful, dependable, not bothering anyone with her own worries, trying to make others feel better. but with each next moment, every feeling of hers builds up more and more, until finally it cannot be contained anymore. and explodes.
her magic is actually also a great metaphor/illustration of her feelings suppression. whenever willow's especially feeling things, we can always see how her magic reacts too it, how her emotions manifest through it. and this scene in ftf is a great visual representation of it; how the vines slowly cover her until she's completely buried under them. how helpless she feels. man...
but at last, she allows herself to let her feelings out. she's assured that she's not any worse for it, told that reliable people can rely on others as well. she lets all her worries and fears and thoughts and vulnerability finally show, instead of letting it all consume her from the inside out. it's such a turning moment for her. because from then on, she's shown to genuinely express more emotions and not depend entirely on herself, now that she's aware it doesn't make her any less strong. she's assured none of her friends are gonna think any less of her, or to see her as weak, and that's good.
actually, another thing i wanna bring up is willow being saved and bridal-carried by hunter in this scene.
could she have saved herself? yes, most likely, just like she did in any sport in a storm, when she was still suppressing any weaknesses of hers and relying on herself only. if hunter hadn't teleported to save her, she'd probably do just that. but this little moment is actually such a good illustration of how now that she's allowing herself to depend on others too (instead of just be dependable), she allows herself to be saved. when she needs it.
see, this is actually the thing i've seen lots of people confused about because "willow is independent, she wouldn't want to be saved" and... that actually confuses me, because it truly misses the very core of her character arc.
the point is that she CAN take care of herself and she wants others (especially people who see her as weak) to know that and to not underestimate her abilities (just like we've seen in labyrinth runners, for example). but, at the same time, she also wasn't allowing herself to take her guard off or to be saved by others for a long time exactly for that same reason; because she didn't want to be seen as weak anymore. she wanted to be seen as only strong and independent, to the point where she deemed any weakness of hers as bad.
like, that's the entire point of her character, her repressing negative feelings then finally allowing herself to open up and be more vulnerable (+ realizing it doesn't make her any less strong). she doesn't hate being saved necessarily, she hates being seen as inferior and weak and incompetent. for example, willow hated when amity constantly tried to save her in labyrinth runners instead of letting her take care of things herself or acknowledging her strengths because it made her think amity thought she was not capable of protecting herself. because it was amity saving her from the smallest things. it made her feel disrespected, as if she was called weak right to her face.
now... hunter never saw willow as weak, ever, and he knows perfectly well that she can take care of herself. he respects her and likes her in her entirety, both for her strength as well as her softer, more vulnerable side. BUT in moments when he thinks she does need protecting or saving, he doesn't hesitate to do so. and now that willow has let herself be more vulnerable and realized she can let herself rely on others more, she clearly appreciates and doesn't mind it whatsoever.
the mutual trust and respect is the actual key point in hunter and willow's relationship; they both know each of them are strong and skilled and able to protect themselves, but they also know each others' vulnerabilities and want to protect each other when a situation actually calls for it. both willow and hunter want the ppl they care abt (each other included) to be safe and they will protect them when they need it, but neither of them would like... completely discredit someone's abilities to stay safe on their own. so when it comes to willow's strength complex, hunter knows when willow can take it cuz he respects her and trusts her abilities, but when she actually needs it, he'll gladly save and protect her as his priority; but not in frivolous instances when she can take care of herself. and she will do the same for him.
so yeah!
tldr; it's actually super cool how both willow and hunter repress their feelings a lot and prioritize others over themselves but it manifests in such different ways and comes from slightly different circumstances/reasonings for each of them.
willow more-so feels like she has to be the more mature one in the group, and she pretends she's okay and fine and focuses on how others are feeling instead of herself cuz she wants to be dependable and hates showing weakness or being seen as weak. whereas, hunter isn't sure how to express himself and when he feels negative things, they manifest as anger/irratibility. he prefers to focus on some productive task instead and he prefers to distance himself from others, and it also all comes down to how he grew up in the coven and how he was raised by belos. like it's... SO interesting how they both do something so similar at its core but so differently.
#i don't have a phd in willow's character though so i can't write as much abt her as i can abt hunter kxjsk but yEA... it's all so neat to me#toh#the owl house#my toh talk#hunter#willow#nicole answers#Anonymous

your personal favorite Dad Harry headcanons ?
And I'm not talking about Harry being a dad to his toddler/infant/pre pubescent kids because we all know he would be a mushy, endearing, gentle mess of a dad. But like what kind of a father will he be to his teen/adult children ?
I think he would be a great Dad, still silly and goofy but also a bit disciplinary. Suppressive in nature given to the heavy trauma he carries. I think he would break a lot generational trauma cycles and try his best to show affection but I feel like Harry would refrain from showing his vulnerability to his kids. He would share very little of his life's events or raw emotions with them but he would create a safe space for his children to share anything and everything with him. I believe he would raise his children to be kind, mature people and they will be able to break through the wall and soothe their father out of his cocoon later in life.
But what do you think ?
Anonymous asked:
hellooooo!! so i’ve seen this topic floating around a lot, especially in fanfictions, and i was wondering what your take is on it: harry and children. would harry be a good parent? would he be inclined towards children? have a natural knack for dealing/interacting with them? or would he be too impatient, too emotionally repressed, just too uncomfortable overall to really connect with them truly? it’s more a question of children overall, since i can imagine interactions with his own kids would be maybe different, but feel free to tackle both topics if inspiration hits!!
Kinda talked about Harry as a parent here already.
But, overall, I think he'd be a good dad, though a bit awkward about discipline (he would probably take cues from the other parent on this matter). As I think with his childhood, he wouldn't really feel comfortable sending a child to their room, though, he'd probably shout on occasion.
He'd never abuse his kids (or any kids). Ever. Harry would never.
I agree Harry would probably show a tough front in front of his kids but make sure to be available to them when they're younger, but once they're older he'd probably grow more open with them. I think he'd definitely show them all the affection he never received.
For the other questions of the second anon, I think Harry would be inclined to have children. Harry wants a family because he never got to have one, and I think, that extends to having kids.
I also think he'd be super caring to children in general, like, I think he'd try to be for Teddy what Sirius was to him as a fun and caring godfather he could trust with anything. I think he'd get along with Ron and Hermione's kids too, like, I think Romione's children would love cool Uncle Harry that everyone stares at in awe when he takes them for ice cream, but he also pretends to be stunned when they wave sticks at him while running around the garden. I think Harry's kids, and the kids of people he's close to would get really weird whenever someone talks about the saviour Harry Potter. They scrunch up their face in confusion because he's not at all that serious and they heard him make a very unflattering impression of the head auror yesterday's dinner with Ron while Hermione shook her head smiling.
But if these kids were ever in danger, they'd see why people are in awe of Harry. He's going to be so scary when protecting his kids/Teddy/Romione's kids/etc.
I think he would get somewhat annoyed with random kids who want his autograph on the street or things like that, though. But, he'd just sigh and sign whatever they want "because they're kids, they don't know better". When an adult asks for an autograph on the street though, he'd be much less understanding and way ruder.

Season 8 Episode 2 Write-Up
Folks! I did it last week, I’ll do it again! And probably for every new episode we get! I liked doing it, and several people followed me for it, so why not, right?
Anyway, 8x02 was still a fantastic episode, even if I didn’t necessarily like it as much as 8x01. I’ll hold off on making a full judgment until next week, when we have the full trilogy in front of us. So, without further ado, beware the cut, for it is long.
1. The Opening Scene
Right off the bat, this feels like the earthquake episode. We’re immediately introduced to the victims of the week, from the sports team, to the business guy, to dog lady, Jem (the hero of the hour!) and his dad, and the elderly couple. I particularly love that Jem is introduced to us by having him walk into the cockpit and talking to the pilots about how much he loves and knows about planes. He’s just instantly so endearing! And his dad seems super encouraging, too. Some of my favorite characters of the week (or weekS I guess, in this case) in a while, honestly!
“Beautiful girl!” “He is.” made me laugh. All of these people just seem super nice, all things considered, and it’s nice that this dog lady isn’t as much of a piece of work as the other dog lady in the earthquake episode.
Also, same Dennis, I don’t like the window seat in a plane either. I’m much too scared of heights like you.
2. The 118
So there’s been a lot of discussion already about Buck spiraling over not knowing why he tackled Gerrard out of the way, and Hen, Chim and especially Eddie not really caring and dancing around instead. And personally, I’m a little torn. Yes, Buck is technically making a big deal out of nothing, and technically his emotional state is not anybody else’s concern. It still leaves a bad taste in my mouth that Buck is asking for reassurance from Eddie, only for Eddie to basically blow him off and dance away instead. Like, at this point a lot of us have pointed out that Buck and Eddie’s relationship is quite uneven, and I think this is part of that.
That being said, I actually do get Eddie. Eddie very often, at least to me, seems like he doesn’t feel his emotions properly. When he’s angry, he seems annoyed at best, his sadness is usually some slightly wet eyes and some subdued facial expressions, etc. It’s part of why it makes such an impact when he ends up exploding, emotionally speaking. Most of this obviously comes from several decades of emotional repression, because Eddie wants to protect his pride, because he doesn’t want to seem weak. There’s a good chance he subdued his emotions forcefully when he was younger, and then, gradually, they numbed down on their own.
This is actually something the show has brought up before in several episodes, like in “Kids Today,” (3x01) where Eddie says his dad always told him to “brush it off” when things didn’t work out for him, or in “Hero Complex” (5x17), where it’s part of the generational trauma that Ramon has inherited from his father (Why is Abuelo Edmundo so romanticized in fanfics again?), and then gave to Eddie. They even bond over it and both vow to get better together, because they both realize that in their attempts to appear strong and capable, they caused themselves and others to get hurt.
So, how does any of this relate to this episode? Because it shows us, like many times before, that Eddie deals with emotions and the like by not dealing with them. He probably genuinely thinks that relaxing and having a dance party is good for Buck, because it’s distracting him from those pesky feelings nobody wants to feel.
You could make the argument that Eddie has learned several times over that dealing like this is bad, (and I agree!) but even ignoring that Eddie has been unfortunately static in his development for a while, healing isn’t linear and people are bound to repeat past mistakes. I’m actually kind of hoping that this is some sort of set up for Eddie’s character arc this season! I really, desperately need him to have a good one that actually sticks this time, because the last few seasons have been disappointing in that regard.
Lastly, before I stop with overanalyzing Eddie over a silly dance party scene, do I wish that a certain subset of shippers reacted to Eddie doing what they predicted Tommy would do with the same level of vitriol? Yes. Am I surprised they don’t? No, because hypocrisy is a BoB standard at this point.
Also, Buck and Gerrard are gonna end up golfing together because Buck feels guilty. That’s my current theory, and I’m sticking with it for now.
3. The Funeral Flashback
Right off the bat, I want to say that we don’t appreciate Pepi Sonuga as Young Athena enough. She was fantastic back in Season Three, and now she comes in four years later, looking exactly the same, and repeating it. That woman is absolutely fantastic!
I don’t think I need to say much about the funeral itself. We all cried, I’m assuming. Athena’s speech was beautiful, the music was perfect, and the dispatcher giving Emmett his last honors gave me huge flashbacks to Kevin’s funeral. Just an all around well done scene.
Also, shoutout to Gina Torres being both a paramedic captain in present day Austin, Texas, and a dispatcher 30 years ago in LA, California lmao.
4. Athena and Dennis (And Dennis’ flashback)
I’m torn. Just…so torn. Because Dennis is just all around such a nice, genuinely good guy. Like, he can leave prison. He made a deal to do that. He can go back to his family, can go back to being a social worker, can go back to helping people…and he decides not to without Athena’s blessing. Because he understands just how much his actions hurt her, and that all the good he did didn’t mend the hole in Athena’s heart. He understands that Athena deserves closure, and to have a say in how her fiancé’s murderer is punished. And he accepts it and is willing to give up his freedom to give it to her.
And honestly, I think this is what’s gonna lead to her forgiving him and giving him her blessing to go through with the deal. She’ll realize just how much Dennis is like Bobby. All the qualities she loves about Bobby are right there, in Dennis, and she’ll realize that his killing Emmett wasn’t malicious, just like Bobby setting the fire wasn’t, and that if she can look past Bobby’s actions because of how much he repents, she can do the same with Dennis. Just like with the Gerrard and Buck golfing theory up there, this is my current Athena theory, and I’m sticking with it until Thursday proves me either right or wrong!
The flashback was pretty informative in a very short amount of time, and I really like that! I love that they threw in the part about every other inmate hating Fulton for hurting kids, which is, reportedly, Truth in Television. If you mess with kids, being in prison is the least of your concerns.
I also appreciate that they picked just a normal looking dude to play the pedo! I feel like too often, TV shows and movies typecast a certain look in these roles (overweight, balding, conventionally unattractive) and then try to make them look creepy on top of that. Them picking a guy you might see while out grocery shopping, who on top of that looks pretty easy going and friendly, is not only a nice change of pace, it’s more realistic. Kudos to you, show!
Also, apparently Maxwell Fulton is just Jeffrey Epstain. Should we start a “Fulton Didn’t Kill Himself” meme?
5. The Crash
Captain Dominguez joins bee driver guy from last week in “Characters who had family and loved ones In Universe who now grieve for them, but we don’t really care.” Also, casual reminder that her body, while hopefully already dead by then, will fall to the earth and literally splatter into goo unless it drops into a body of water, which would still cause damage to the body, but wouldn’t turn her into a red blot. At least bee driver guy’s family had his body. Let’s hope Dominguez doesn’t go splat in a neighborhood with kids! 😃
I love the chaos of the initial crash! Everyone getting thrown around, the copilot having an open fracture and being unconscious, Jordan’s oxygen mask being broken (Why was it broken? Did it break right now? Was it broken beforehand? Either way, it shouldn’t have happened, what kind of airline is this???), the whole thing is so well-shot! Exceptional camera work, seriously!
Also lmao at Athena’s phone actually working. She’s got great service!
Honestly love, love, LOVE that they brought back the air traffic crew from Season Five! It’s a nice bit of continuity and a callback for us to turn into the Pointing Leo meme!
6. Hot Shots
“Help me, help me, I’m in here.” I don’t know if they’re implying that that’s what it’s gonna sound like in the finished episode or if it’s just to help the actors space their pauses and the real audio is getting edited in later, but still, it made me cackle. Great call back to Season One, too!
Also, is it just me or is the director going “It’s a TV show!” “They’re not putting their visors down!” etc. just Tim throwing shade at us all lmao? Callum Blue is amazing here, too, the sheer condescension in that “Marcus!” had me fucking rolling!
“He’ll be gone after a week, but you…you’ll still be here!” And that lip bite??? He wants Bobby. He so wants Bobby. Which is understandable, you know, I desire Peter Krause carnally, too, but like…you’re laying it on a little thick there, mate. I also love how genuinely scared Bobby looks right after lmao.
7. Back on the plane + Maddie calling the 118
Okay. So. Uh, I don’t think the copilot has an open fracture anymore? More like something stabbed and is now stuck in his leg? I don’t know, can anyone clarify?
“That’s not good!” No Jem, a hole in the plane is not good! Should I question why the people weren’t moved away from the tear before now? Probably not. Let’s just appreciate that Athena somewhat knows what she’s doing here.
Her speech is great, too. It’s at moments like this where you realize “Oh yeah. That’s Angela Fucking Bassett in the silly wee woo show.” The delivery, the actual monologue, how she rallies and speaks to everyone. I feel like if Athena’s cop storylines centered more around moments like this, about her showing empathy to people, about her building people up instead of her going rogue and “doing what’s right” I’d enjoy those scenes a lot more.
Maddie only being in this episode to tell everyone that Athena is on a crashing plane, and that they’ll coach a bunch of civilians through triage, yet they still got JLH to cry is peak, and I mean that seriously! Let JLH cry! She’s so good at it!
Athena going to leave a (possibly) dying message to Bobby on his phone is heartbreaking enough, her not doing it and instead just saying “I love you, baby,” is somehow worse???
“Everything should be fine!” *disconnects call* “We should probably evacuate the airport!” Nick from air traffic control, you will always be famous to me💖
8. Back to Bobby
So Brad is either completely insane, or a really, really dedicated method actor. Or both. Also, is it just me or is he not just admiring Bobby, he tries to be Bobby? Like, he yells at his “co-writer” (likely story <.<) and then instantly asks Bobby to go up to a remote location on a mountain to method act about firefighting. That’s…concerning. I still think he’s hilarious, but also…he’s a little creepy…
9. Triage and everything else on that plane
I don’t think there’s much I can say about this that hasn’t already been said. At the end of the day, 9-1-1 is about how humanity is good. People are good. And I don’t think any scene before has quite encompassed that as well as the one where everyone is working together on that plane to treat each other. Maybe the scene in Season Two when everyone breaks through the police barricades to help lift the ladder truck off of Buck’s leg, but this one is still the best show of that philosophy in my opinion.
Jem helping Athena with the plane is amazing, and I desperately need Tommy to be in Thursday’s episode, if only so he can tell Jem that he did great and has a bright future in aviation in front of him!
Probably the highlight of the entire episode for me is Tia (and by extension Edward and Pru) saving Jordan’s life. “Does anybody here have erectile dysfunction?!” and “Perks of being geriatric, dear!” are both class af lines that I hope we keep talking about because, come on!!!
“You’re making a prison shiv. Where did you learn how to do that?” Ma’am, I think the better question is, how do you know he’s making a prison shiv? Were you in prison too? Did you make a shiv yourself? Did you ever shiv someone, either to save your life or just for fun? So many questions about coach lady here! I love how nonchalant Dennis is about having been in prison, too. Like, sorry not sorry, right now he has no reason to care lmao.
Tia and Jordan having a moment was super cute, but I can’t help but think about the future here.
“Daddy, how did you and Mommy meet?”
“Well you see kids, we were in a crashing plane, and I was vomiting up pink foam, so she made me inhale boner dust to save my life! We fell in love instantly!”
Honestly, Tia, Edward and Pru working together to save Jordan’s life might just be the highlight of the episode for me. I love Jordan and the dog in the end there, super cute 💖
“I’ve never shived anyone!” I don’t believe you, coach lady! I bet you shived a whole bunch of people, actually!
“You’re gonna cut it open, just like a sausage.” Chim. Chim why? Chim, please, why?!
Okay, so, part of me is still super delulu and wants Tommy to rappel down and land the plane (fingers crossed!) but if that doesn’t happen, then I want Jem to do it. Like, lean into the crazy and have the 10-year-old with the hyperfixation land the giant passenger plane on the freeway! I would fucking celebrate it! I’m not lying!
Also, thank you for being smart, Dennis! I swear to Christ, why isn’t Athena calling Elaine to tell her about the list?! I get that Bobby is the person Athena trusts the most, but Elaine should be the obvious person to call. This just seems like a really weird writing decision. Honestly.
Which then leads us to Donna deciding to go “We’re gonna be okay! 😀” Girl, have you ever seen a movie or TV show before?! You never say this kind of shit before the crashing plane isn’t safe on the ground! Everything that’s now going wrong is your fault, Donna, and I hope you know it!
“Whatever situation Athena is in with Dennis, I’m sure she has it under control!” Cue the plane literally falling out of the sky lmao.
AND THEN JEM BECOMES ATHENA’S COPILOT! I love it! I love this random ass child so much, I cannot describe it 😭 Can we keep Jem? I want to keep him, please!! He literally just saved that plane, this is why I love this show! Like, yes, actually, I do want that child to land this plane! In fact, I hope Tommy rappels down and takes the pilot seat while Jem has the copilot one, and then they land the plane together! Will that happen? Probably not! But I can be delulu if I want to!
10. The last Five Minutes, from Bobby to Athena
First of all, Brad has five wives! Is he mormon? Is it proper polygamy? Is he officially married to all five women at once? Cause that’s bigamy and Athena told us in Season Five (I think?) that that’s a big No No.
“Athena’s on that plane, isn’t she?” “She’s flying it!” “Of course she is, what else would she be doing?” I love how Bobby is just not even surprised at this point. “Yeah, my wife is always in completely insane situations, this isn’t anything new.”
Buck’s fucking Shocked Pikachu face when Bobby decides that they’re stealing the truck sent me xD But hey, another “Like Father, Like Son” moment right there. Stealing a firetruck for a woman, who would’ve guessed!
“Brad…whatever.” So Buck has no idea who Brad is. This random stranger just jumped into the truck behind him and Bobby and said “Alright, boys. Let’s saddle up!” and Buck has no clue who this guy is or why he’s here or why Bobby has no reaction to him anymore. I can’t wait for next episode to see some interactions between all three of them!
So, uh, the last part with the copilot waking up and then having a heart attack was kind of pointless, right? Like, it’s not just me? Like, the copilot has a heart attack, so now Athena and Jem have to land the plane, except that was the plan from the beginning, so what changes here exactly? Yeah, the copilot would’ve been a better candidate, but Athena was already gearing up to land that plane herself.
Also, Jem is, as of the end of this episode, flying the plane by himself!
Final Thoughts
This was a much more action heavy episode than last week, which is great! It is, but I usually prefer the character interactions and moments, and I kind of missed them this week. That being said, this might still become my favorite opening disaster yet! Yes, even more so than the tsunami! It all depends on how Thursday’s episode goes.
The passengers all treating and rescuing each other was amazing, Brad is still fun (though I’m starting to suspect he might be in cahoots with Fulton? idk), and Angela Bassett is Angela Bassett.
As for Thursday, do I hope Tommy comes in to land the plane (with assistance from Jem)? Yes! Do I think it’s actually going to happen? Eeeeeeh. I’m prepared for it not to, and it won’t be a big deal if it doesn’t, but I can still dream!
Anyway, share your own thoughts with me! Send me asks if you want to! Have discussions with me! Or, you know, simply feel my appreciation for you for reading my jumbled mind lmao.

My Yandere Neuvillette and Wriothesley characterizations
I feel like I'm mixing up these two's characterizations in my head so I'll write them down here as reference. These will probably change as we learn more about them.
Please feel free to submit any suggestions!
Neuvillette
He gives off a very paternalistic feeling--he's Father
Authoritative, comes off as condescending and judgy even when he isn't trying to be
Can read you like a book
Big fan of procedures and rules
Doesn't show much emotion on his face, but as you spend more time with him you can see the subtle shifts in his expressions
Super emotionally repressed (turbo virgin)...until he met you
Honestly I think he would be pretty relaxed and chill even as a yandere, not because he values your personal freedom or anything, it's because he knows full well that you'll never get away from him
I think he'd be a bit less relaxed and chill before you become his darling, because there's still a small chance you can get away from him (bonus points if you reject him. Then you will really see him slightly less chill)
Will probably try to court his darling first before trying more underhanded means
Generally acts like a gentleman even as he is keeping you imprisoned against your will
Not the type to get super angry, just disappointed. If you push him too far, though...
He has a lot of patience for your "shortcomings" because fundamentally he sees you as someone who needs to be "educated" and "disciplined"
I think that for him, you're the first person he feels something for, and that simultaneously bothers him and intrigues him--Him? Feeling things for a human??? Huh????
I think even if you get into a relationship with him willingly, he'll still eventually confine you in his house anyways. That's probably where you'll spend most of your time, but he'll take you out to the theater or something from time to time (even all powerful chief justices like to flaunt their darlings sometimes)
Doesn't really dote on you heavily, but he's pretty soft when it's just the two of you. Likes to kiss the top of your head and wrap his arms around you. Would really love it if he
But he also has high expectations for you. He'll make you read and memorize Fontaine's literature and laws, drill you on etiquette, train you on how to speak and act with him. It's not so much he thinks you're uncultured, he just thinks that everyone should be cultured, especially you
Won't use his cane to hit you (unless you really push him too far). Mostly uses it to correct your posture, tilt your head up, etc. (Spankings are a different story however)
If you're a shy and demure person, he will probably be very warm, protective and patient with you. Probably wouldn't even seem like a yandere at all if not for the controlling behavior. (Is this a daddy kink)
If you're more feisty and argumentative, he...will probably kinda enjoy that? On one hand you remind him of a certain archon he has to put up with, which annoys him because he sees you as a sort of refuge away from that, but on the other hand it further stimulates his desire to control everything about you, to tame you, basically. So I think he'll probably treat you more roughly
Wriothesley
Ok this one is harder especially because I really don't know what to make of him after reading his drip marketing description. So I will just write about how he is in my fic A Choice Forged in Blood
So Wriothesley is a lot like Neuvillette in that he's pretty stoic, but the difference is that Neuvillette is like that all the time, while Wriothesley is mainly like that because of his job/reputation. He is much more open with the people who know him well
I headcanon Wriothesley to be more "romantic" than Neuvillette
He knows how intimidating he is, isn't that bothered by it most of the time, but does sigh about it sometimes when he's just out and about and everyone gives him a wide distance
But when he meets you...ooh boy
Depending on whether you treat him normally or are scared of him like everyone else, he will approach you differently
If you treat him normally: *brain short circuits* he doesn't know how to react to that. He wants to approach you but doesn't know how without the fear of scaring you away. Ironically treating him normally only flusters him more. Will probably try to find out everything about you, and try to be around you as much as he can, blushes an awful lot when you're around
If you're scared of him: yeah he expected that and he's sad. Will keep a distance from you, still tries to find out everything about you in order to figure out how to appeal to you, gets really jealous when you smile around anyone other than him, kabedon maybe idk
Will try his best to hold back his growing feelings because of his innate morals, but it gets harder each day. He can't stop thinking about you
When he snaps eventually, oh boy (see: poor y/n from my fic)
Will just take you by force, will feel bad about starting off your "relationship" too forcefully but does NOT regret doing it in the first place
Tries his best to be gentle, likes to sit you on his lap, cuddle with you; will melt if you initiate physical affection with him
Enjoys going out with you (if he can do so without handcuffing your wrist to his) and simply spending time with you
Will be very protective of you, will still get insecure and compare himself to others
Just wants to be loved back and live in domestic bliss with you :(
Will be sad about it but won't hesitate to tie you to his bed if you get too rebellious

hey there, how do you feel about clark/dick and other ships with dickie and the JLA
hi!!! i *love* Clark/Dick!!! i think there's so many fun ways to do that ship, it can be very fucked up and almost incest-y, playing up the "Uncle Clark" bit, but also i'm personally very personal to Clark/Dick that happens when Dick is Batman and Clark is coping with his grief over Bruce and trying to fill that hole with Dick. it's fun even if Superbat never happened and Clark's feelings for Bruce were entirely platonic and things just get tangled in the mess of trying to treat Dick like an adult while also still not seeing him as big enough to fill Bruce's shoes. it's a delightful age and power gap, where Clark's respect for Dick is always going to be founded in a mentor-type bond which makes them so messy.
and it's super fun to play with Clark giving Dick the name Nightwing and how much Clark had to trust Dick with something so Kryptonian. he helped raise Dick almost as much as Bruce did and was a guiding figure for Dick during Bruce and Dick's worst times. which is so fun, if the person Dick goes to when he's pissed at Bruce ends up being someone he's romantically/sexually entangled with. because there's always going to be the questionable age gap and how they met, no matter how old Dick is when they "officially" get together. i could really see Dick sleeping with Clark to get back at Bruce during Dick's Discowing era, and it ends up causing complicated feelings either of them are willing to confront. in general i like the complicated feelings of Clark/Dick the most in any version of this ship. there's at least a dozen obstacles keeping them apart, so their relationship would be difficult and rocky to make work. they don't always agree and their relationship isn't as wholesome as it seems on the surface. Clark reacted *wildly* negatively to Dick as Batman when it first happened. he likes Dick, but i think it's really fun to play with Clark being averse to viewing Dick as an autonomous adult and how that affects them ad a ship.
as for other JLA ships with Dick, i'm open to just about any but don't really have developed thoughts besides Dick/Oliver. i think Oliver'se deep dislike for Bruce combined with his concern for how Bruce raises his sidekicks could work so well with an accidental relationship. like, Oliver keeping in touch with Dick and trying to form a mentoring bond just to make sure Dick isn't too controlled by Bruce and is well taken care of, and having that accidentally spiral could be so fun. because Oliver would be *horrified* and it'd conflict with him morally, even if Dick was a consenting adult. that's his son's best friend, and now they're sleeping together? Oliver keeps trying to break it off but he can't seem to stop. Dick is like a bad habit. it's fucked up and that's half the fun of it, the taboo nature. i also think Oliver would emotionally provide very well for Dick, who's trying to figure out how to exist on his own without Bruce. it'd be very "best friend's dad core" with all the age gap comments from Oliver while he's kissing Dick and how his love for Dick will always be just *slightly* tainted by that fatherly love. i think it's fun and fucked up.
i do sort of like Hal/Dick. but like. 80s/90s Hal who kind of sucked and was full of unaddressed bigotry and did some fucked up things like dating that teenage girl. like if you want a ship *full* of repressed internalized homophobia and "well i'm not gay this doesn't count" complexes, i think this works remarkably well. Hal is morally questionable enough to fuck Dick regularly and Dick still crawls back to him, even as Hal is in complete denial about his own sexuality and makes vaguely homophobic comments about Dick, while fucking Dick. just a grown ass man projecting all of his issues onto the 20-something hero who just wants a good fuck. i'm a big fan of Dick fucking older men who are cruel to him, almost as a form of cathartic self-harm. and you can pull that off pretty well if you work with Hal at his most asshole-ish era. like imo this ship could get *really* fucked up. especially if you played with like. Parallax stuff. also you know. the joy of Lantern Rings during sex.
lastly, i don't think he quite counts as JLA sine he's more Justice League of China, but. Kenan Kong, Superman of China. i have a *really* stuck in my head brainworm shipping him with Dick. they don't have much interaction, *but* i've had this idea of Kenan hearing the jokes about "every Super has a Bat" when he joins the Superfam and he decides it's his right to claim a Bat. and since Dick doesn't really have a Super, Kenan just. decides Dick is his. and forms what Dick thinks is a genuine friendship with the end goal of sleeping with Dick, consensually or not. i think it could be fun, playing into how Kenan used to be a really big asshole. hopefully I'll write it eventually, though i'm not sure how interested in it people would be since it's such a rarepair idea. but what am i if not a dealer of rarepairs.
#necrotic answerings#dead dove do not eat#clark kent x dick grayson#clarkdick#dick grayson x oliver queen#olliedick#dick grayson x hal jordan#haldick#dick grayson x kenan kong#kenandick#ig that's the ship name now i've dubbed it so#i birthed it i get to name it i think.#i've been more and more into clark/dick recently tho#justbc of the dicked down discord server being full of *such* good clark/dick food#one day i'll be brave enough to be active over there and share my kenan idea#i'm currently not brave but#someday i will be#i feel like i need a tag for ppl aksing my opinions on ships#idk what that tag would be tho#and i'd have to go back and add that tag so#that'd' be annoying.

I would absolutely love to read that if you posted it ^^
OKAY BIG GRIMSLEY HEADCANON POST
IM NORMAL ABOUT GRIMSLEY I SWEAR I SWEAR
-Okay so a lot of this directly ties to my boyfriend @plushegutzz's oc Blaine and their lore so be prepared to see their name a lot. Also I'm not gonna include Bug in this because as much as I love her she's mostly just a silly little fankid i have for fun domestic fluff stuff so she doesn't really have a concrete timeline. Anyway i'll try my best to go through this chronologically.-
TWs for: gambling and gambling addiction, trauma, vague references to childhood abuse, Grimsley just generally being severely mentally ill
Grimsley Gore (birth name Gabriel Gore) was born into a wealthy Unovian family alongside his twin brother Garry. Being born into a rich family the two brothers had a lot of really strong expectations placed onto them from a very young age, with the two basically expected to be perfect all the time. Because of this stress growing up the two brothers developed a very strong bond as they really only felt like they had each other.
The mother of the Gore household was a very controlling and manipulative figure putting a lot of pressure onto the twins to be perfectly behaved golden children. Their father meanwhile was very emotionally distant towards his family and the rare times he did interact with his two sons he was generally pretty abusive. Growing up Grimsley/Gabriel tries his best to keep the uglier side of his home life away from public eyes, instead bragging to his friends about how cool and spoiled he is instead.
Grimsley's first pokémon was his Liepard (nicknamed Violet) who he met at around 8 years old, he spotted a wild Purrlion with an injured foot wandering his family's estate and immediately dropped everything to go check on the kitty. He got in a lot of trouble with his mother for doing so as his outfit ended up covered in dirt during his rescue of the pokémon but he was mostly just excited over having a pokemon of his own. He ended up nursing Violet back to help and it caused the two to develop a very close bond. Even as an adult Grimsley is super attached to his Liepard and basically treats her like his baby.
It's shortly after catching Violet that Grimsley meets Blaine A. Platinum the child of another wealthy Unova family with the twos parents pairing the two together in hopes of them getting married in adulthood. Both children absolutely hate this idea and don't initially get along with each other, but after a while of being forced to spend time together they start to realize that they're stuck in similar situations of shitty home lives and form a friendship over their shared struggle.
During his teen years Grimsley views his life as “going pretty good” in his eyes, he's still dealing with an actively abusive home life but he's kind of repressing all of his emotions about that. Instead he's clinging onto the bonds he formed with Blaine and his brother Garry. His dynamic with his brother is very “we've only got eachother” meanwhile he and Blaine are in this mess of “kinda dating but also kinda not dating we're 16 years old and it's complicated.” and both relationships are kinda overly dependent on Grimsley's end. Overall during this point of his life Grimsley just kinda acts like a spoiled brat rich kid who's better than everybody else because it's easier for him to accept than look inwards and try and process the trauma he very clearly is struggling with. (Grimsley spends a large chunk of his life running away from his trauma.)
Grimsley putting all his emotional stability on two people unsurprisingly ends up shooting him in the foot as his life kinda ends up falling apart at 19 years old. It starts with Blaine, They've personally had enough of the stress of their home life and now that they're an adult they're planning to run away and had been hoping that Grimsley would join them. Unfortunately Grimsley can't bring himself to abandon the only life he's ever known, a part of him knows deep down that he's not happy in his current situation but he can't bring himself to admit that. His life with his rich family being the only sense of stability he knows and he turns Blaine down. This turns into a huge fight between the two with Blaine basically accusing him of choosing his spoiled rich kid life over them and storms off.
Unsurprisingly, Grimsley takes Blaine leaving very badly with his emotions about the situation eventually starting to turn bitter with him viewing it as though Blaine abandoned him.
Things only get worse for poor Grims as not too long after he loses his brother too. Unlike Grimsley, Garry has been processing his emotions about their home life and also has decided he doesn't want to put up with it anymore. He informs Grimsley that he's intending to move away to Paldea to be with his fiancé, and much like Blaine offers his brother resources to get out himself but Grimsley isn't in the headspace to hear it and denies all of it feeling like his brother is abandoning him too.
Needless to say, Grimsley is in a pretty bad headspace at this point due to losing the two people he put all of his emotional stability into. (Even if it was a large part his own fault and refusal to process his emotional issues that caused him to lose them.) And things only get worse when his family falls into debt.
Grimsley's father was a gambler, it was a well known fact even if everyone in the family pretended it wasn't, and the kinds of casinos he was associating himself with weren't exactly the most legal ones. His father found himself owing quite a lot of money to Team Rocket causing the family to go bankrupt.
This all just sent Grimsley into a mental spiral with him basically having a full on episode. Not being able to let go of the spoiled rich life he was living because it was his only sense of stability was the reason he had lost his connections with Blaine and Garry in the first place and now he didn't even have that. Gambling was the reason he had lost everything, and in his state of mental instability he rationalized that gambling would be the thing to get his life back. It was during this episode that he decided to abandon his birth name is Gabriel and start going by Grimsley feeling as though he needed to abandon the “pathetic” person he used to be and reinvent himself.
Thrusting himself into casinos run by Team Rocket didn't exactly go well for Grimsley, with him getting roughed up for lacking proper funds on more than one occasion. But it was enough to get Grimsley addicted to the thrill of gambling. The rush of adrenaline it gave him distracted him from all the bad things going around in his he was already trying so hard to repress, it was something to make him feel ALIVE in his depressive state.
Still though hanging around these shady casinos and just getting pushed deeper into debt wasn't doing much good for him, and the only reason he was able to escape falling deeper into the organization was him meeting Nanu. Nanu was still working for the international police at this point and had been working undercover on a job related to Team Rocket and pretty quickly noticed that Grimsley was out of place. He gave him an out noticing that he actually had some really impressive pokémon battling skills and put him down the route of becoming a professional dark type pokémon trainer.
It didn't take Grimsley too long to rise up as an up and coming pokémon trainer and he definitely loved the attention and success that came with being a big name trainer. Eventually he ended up grabbing the attention of the champion of the region Alder, who saw potential in him to be successful as an Elite Four trainer and wanted to train him for the job.
His dynamic with Alder was, complicated, with Alder being a very mentorly almost father-like figure which made Grimsley and his repressed daddy issues panic. This only being furthered by Grimsley being close in age to Alder’s actual children and Alder being very aware of the fact that Grimsley was a very troubled young man who needed guidance. Grimsley did still accept the offer of the Elite Four job from Alder and did let him help out when it came to improving his pokémon battling, he did end up telling Alder to “watch it old timer” more than a couple times when it came to his personal life.
Despite his current success Grimsley still kept his gambling habits from before though and the thrill seeking that came from it although he was spending his time at more legal casinos this time. It was spending his time going out gambling that he found himself bumping into Blaine of all people again.
The two reuniting was fully by chance, Blaine finding a very hungover Grimsley passed out next to a casino with his Liepard Violet protectively coiled around him. Blaine was still fairly upset about their fight from a couple years ago at this point but could also tell that Grimsley wasn't exactly in a great state at the moment and decided to make sure he got home safe because a part of them still cared a lot for him. The two ended up catching up and while things were still very awkward between the two they decided to try and be friends to some degree again.
It was through Blaine that Grimsley ended up befriending Burgh as well, with Blaine having befriended the man through their shared passion for art. Grimsley being deathly afraid of bugs from a very young age wasn't the biggest fan of Burgh’s choice in type speciality he thought the man was fun to hang around with and so he had no choice but to put up with it, especially since Burgh was determined to help Grimsley get over his fears.
Burgh found Grimsley rather endearing in general, in fact he found himself kind of crushing on the man. Blaine, rather heavily protested this crush, pointing out that Grimsley was rather obviously very emotionally unavailable. But Burgh couldn't really help it, he could tell that underneath all the facade he put on all the time he had a softer side underneath it all and he just needed help getting it all out.
For once in his life Grimsley found himself genuinely doing pretty good, he was successful in his job in the Elite Four, he had friends in his life that genuinely cared about him, he was even starting to reconnect with his brother and get to know his nephew Giacomo (the young Giacomo really looking up to his uncle.) Unfortunately for Grimsley having people that genuinely loved and cared about him in his adulthood meant that he couldn't keep getting away with an unchecked gambling addiction and repressing all his negative emotions and pretending they didn't exist anymore. He had people that wanted him to get better and he basically got dragged kicking and screaming into therapy and working through his issues by Blaine, Garry, Alder and Burgh.
Grimsley hated working through his big pile of traumas and mental issues at first, it made him feel vulnerable and exposed and he didn't like that. But slowly over time he started to make progress and allow himself to be emotionally open with other people and starts dating Burgh during this time with the man encouraging him to be more open to being his genuine self. He also is a bit more willing to accept Alder as a father figure at this point. (Also diversity win! Grimsley realizes he's nonbinary at this point! yay! This is why you'll occasionally see me talk about headcanoning Grimsley as Bigender and using He/She/Any pronouns.) He even starts allowing people to call him Gabriel again on rare occasions, although this permission is really only given to Burgh, Blaine and Garry it's a huge sign of progress for him.
He eventually fully talks his emotions out with Blaine as hard as that is for him to do, and the two of them finally get over the fight they had all those years ago and start dating as well because I think Grimsley deserves two partners actually.
Aloan Grimsley is him taking a much needed mental health vacation after everything he's been through and allowing himself some rest and relaxation. Besides what's better than surfing on a Sharpedo in order to cope with your repressed emotional issues? He chose to hang out in Alola due to his previous connection with Nanu.
My version of Grimsley is just generally very special to me and is something that is very very dear to me so hopefully y'all enjoyed this big wall of text as well haha! i do have some vague additional headcanons but those aren't as heavily fleshed out and i wanted to just include the fully concrete stuff!!!

When people say that Dick “has a temper” what do they mean? Is he the type to blow up over an inconvenience, be impatient, or rage-quit?
Ahhhh, I had a lot of fun with this. Thanks for the ask, anon. <3
My main feeling about Dick's temper is it's an important part of his characterization, and it's a fun part of his characterization, but I also try not to overemphasize it? A lot of my thoughts are here; also @theflyingwonder has some good panel collections here and here and here if you want to see what Dick generally looks like when he's grumpy about something.
General thoughts / caveats:
Anger is obviously not the only emotion Dick ever feels!! He feels many other emotions too!! The fact that he is capable of getting really angry sometimes does not mean that he is angry all the time!!
He's a person who feels emotions very deeply - anger, love, loyalty, etc. - but also has a very conflicted relationship with his emotions. He aspires to be perfectly controlled, like he imagines Bruce is, and he's ashamed of moments when he loses control. Because he's wound pretty tight and represses a lot, his emotions can be a bit explosive when he loses his grip on them.
I would never describe him as "an angry person." He doesn't walk around fuming at the world and looking for things to be mad about, y'know? He's a person who wants to be optimistic and tries to be optimistic. This very much includes when he's Robin.
He wouldn't blow up over an inconvenience unless he was already really upset about something more serious. But yeah, if he's upset about something important, sometimes he'll lash out at whatever's closest.
He's methodical and focused; he'll sometimes get impatient when he's, say, bored by his friends' TV preferences, and in general he gets restless and likes to be moving, but if he's got a challenging task to complete he's completely capable of hyper-focusing on it.
In his civilian life, he generally has a pretty good grip on the anger - so e.g. I don't remember him ever shouting at Clancy or civilian friends in general. When a reporter tries to get dirt on him by interviewing his neighbors at his apartment complex, they universally gush about how nice he is.
Meanwhile, in his vigilante life, he's got a rigid moral code and a rigid sense of duty. He cares a lot about helping people and protecting civilians, and he's emotionally-fulfilled by it, and he can be very kind. But he's also a super-intense person who takes his responsibilities seriously, and he'll get sharp with people that he feels aren't being serious enough. He only screws around when he's with people who are very serious themselves, like Bruce.
In an argument, Dick's generally direct and confrontational: he'll snap at you to your face, not sulk behind your back. Even when he's being a bit more passive-aggressive, he's not subtle about it. If Dick's annoyed with you, you'll know. If he doesn't like you, he makes it obvious.
Jean-Paul: I've seen you with Robin - you like Robin. Dick: You got a problem with Robin? Jean-Paul: No! I like Robin, too. He's an exceptional young man. I just mean... it's obvious when you like someone. And equally obvious that you don't like me. (GK 14)
Dick's just a very dynamic character in general, rather than a static one. When he's relaxed, he can be very easygoing and friendly; if you get off on the wrong foot with him, he's prickly and often harsh. He's got a very serious core, a strong sense of principle, and a passionate sense of loyalty to the people he cares about. Here's a light-hearted moment with Dick and Tim fooling around playing tag:
Dick (grabbing Tim from above): Gotcha! Tim: Augh! (B: Transference)
This is from the exact same arc as the panel at the top - but before Hugo Strange almost kills Bruce. And just in general I think this panel is a good reminder that Dick does all kinds of things that are not about being angry, that he's also the person who keeps Tim fed and repeatedly saves him from falling, that sometimes he'll pour his heart out to Bruce, that he really really really loves his friends, and so on.
Now, all that said, if you would like an extensive deep dive into Dick yelling at people (and really, who wouldn't? yelling is fun!), I've collected a super-long list of quotes which I've attempted to corral into organization. Below the cut:
Dick vs. criminals
Dick vs. Bruce
Dick + list of reasons he gets upset
Dick + annoyance at friends/teammates
Dick + lashing out at loved ones (rare! but, uh, very memorable)
Dick + first meetings with future siblings (+Steph)
In conclusion
Anger at Criminals
Dick's temper is an important part of how he thinks of himself: he's intensely self-aware about his temper and also conflicted about it. It comes up most often when he's fighting criminals, especially when they're threatening people he loves:
Dick (internally): At first, I couldn't believe what they were saying… but as the truth sank in, I felt a rage growing so great inside me - that it felt like I was just a part of the anger, instead of it being a part of me. Kid!Dick: Those animals! They murdered my mother and father! I'm going to the police! Bruce: No... not yet. (Secret Origins 13) Deathwing: You've been so angry for so long, Dick. Learn to accept it because you have no choice. You will become me, Dick, and I know because I am your worst nightmare! I am you! Dick: Never! I'm not you and I'll never be you! Yeah, I get angry. Sometimes I get so pissed I want to break everything in sight. But everyone gets mad. Everyone gets frustrated. But I don't fight out of anger! I fight when there's something wrong that needs to be stopped! And that's why I'll never be you! I don't fight to kill - I fight to protect! And what you said about Batman - well, pal, screw you. He's the best mentor anyone ever had! (NT 100) Dick (internally): I hit him harder than I should. Not sure why. It worries me that it feels so right. (N 2) Dick: I thought I was more in control than that. But I lost it. Tim: It was made right, Dick. The Joker is alive and not well in a maximum security cell. Dick: It’s not right with me. I never thought I could be a killer. I’m wrong. There’s a part of me I never saw before. The rage. I never felt anger like that. I feel like it clawed me up inside. (N 64) Dick (internally): Nothing Jason says can be taken for truth. He says Tim is dead. I'll need more proof than his word and an empty cowl. Because right now, I need to keep that hope alive. If for nothing else, then to keep me from losing control… and I won't let that happen. Can't let that happen. Can't. Dick (punching Jason): WHERE IS HE, JASON? Jason: Depends on what kind of life he led. Dick (breaking Jason's nose, then internally): There goes his nose. Control your anger. (BftC 3) Jason (internally): Dick is different from Bruce. In the way he fights. In the way he thinks. And the way he feels. And he gets angry. Really angry. That anger, it'd make him a great Batman, if he'd let it. He's trying too much to be like him. The good son. Man, I hate him. (B&R 25)
So something you'll notice about all of these moments is that Dick isn't proud of his anger. He doesn't experience it as cathartic, and he isn't proud of the things he does when he's angry. His anger is an enemy; it's the person he doesn't want to be, to the extent that after the fact being angry almost feels like an out-of-body experience, because in the burn of anger he'll do things that his conscious mind rejects.
I tend to think of anger for Dick as akin to a temptation. He's strong and talented and smart. He's capable of really hurting people. He also believes - viscerally, fiercely - that it's wrong to do so.
Worth remembering: Dick's big confrontation with Zucco, in most of his origin stories, involves taking the photo that gets him arrested:
Dick (remembering): Twenty-four hours later, we were on the trail of Boss Zucco... and when he murdered his own henchman, I took the photo that sent Zucco to prison! (Secret Origins 13)
And in Batman: Year Three, he's furious when he thinks that Bruce might have arranged for Zucco to get killed - when Dick's calm and thinking clearly, he believes it's wrong to kill even people who are clearly evil. It's only when he's swept up in emotion that he'll get violent.
Anger at Bruce
... Look, I had to give Bruce his own category.
Dick and Bruce have a lot of fights. Like, a lot of fights.
Now, this isn't at all particular to Dick! Dick's just one of many, many, many people in Bruce's life who periodically get fed up with him. So I wouldn't gloss this as Dick being unusually short-tempered - post-Crisis Bruce would provoke a saint (and does! at one point Clark briefly votes him out of the JLA!). And Dick doesn't always get angry when Bruce is being a jerk to him - sometimes he's just discouraged, or depressed.
But at the same time, Dick's not a pushover, and when he's sufficiently provoked, he'll often track Bruce down to confront him / demand an explanation / demand better behavior / etc. Paradoxically, I actually tend to see these confrontations as an expression of Dick's faith in Bruce. He gets angry because he expects better.
Here's a small sampling of Dick-angry-at-Bruce moments (some confrontations, some where Dick's just fuming on his own):
Bruce: Listen to me. Dick: Listen to you? You hand Gotham over to that nutcase altar boy. You leave this kid out to dry without a snowball's chance. Then you throw everything you’ve lived for aside like it was nothing! Killing this creep doesn’t make you as bad as the scum we hunt. It makes you worse. Because they never stood for anything. (R 8) Dick: If you say anything about 'finding myself,' I think I'll puke. Bruce: I thought you'd be glad to see me back. Dick: That depends on why you came back. Bruce: To take up the mantle again. To take back my place. Dick: For how long this time? Bruce: Not now, Dick. We can talk about this when - Dick: Right now. We're settling this right now, Bruce. (R 12 - Bruce has abruptly reappeared in the Batcave after leaving Dick and Tim in charge during Prodigal)
Dick: It was you who told us to stay out of Gotham. I’ve got a life here. I can’t just walk away from that. You’ll have to - (Bruce hangs up on him) Damn you! (N 34 - Bruce has been AWOL for months and now abruptly summons Dick to join him in No Man's Land) Dick (internally): Bruce is playing martyr. Keeping us at a distance. […] Why does it have to be this way with us? WHY? (He punches his car, and his hand comes away bloody.) Uncontrollable rage. The same rage I felt when I killed the Joker. Thought I had it under control. (N 65 - Bruce is accused of murder and freezing out the Bats) Bruce: What are you doing out of bed? Dick: You did it again, didn't you? You pushed everyone away! (N 99) Bruce: I assume this isn't a social call? Dick: What the hell is the matter with you? I mean, aside from the obvious! Ignoring the many layers of denial, and the fifty feet of psychological body armor that you throw up to avoid feeling anything! Aside from that! And the pathological need to control everything on Earth and beyond! Ignoring all that! What exactly is your compulsion, your burning desire to deceive, lie, and manipulate the only people who give a good god damn about you?! Bruce: You getting to a point? (O 21 - Dick just found out that Bruce was secretly funding the Outsiders)
Dick's relationship with Bruce is Complicated (TM), because he's also incredibly loyal, and - despite everything - he loves Bruce a lot. A lot of Dick's anger comes out of this frustrated loyalty - Dick feels betrayed and hurt because he loves Bruce so much. Here's a panel from later in Outsiders 21:
Bruce: You shouldn't place that much faith in me. Dick: I have more faith in you than anyone.
Reasons why Dick gets angry: an incomplete list
So if Dick isn't really the type to, say, rage-quit a game, then what does he get angry about (other than criminals and Bruce in general)?
I've tried to loosely categorize what seem to me to be the main things that can make him lose his temper:
as above, somebody Dick loves has been hurt and he's furious at the person who did it (so e.g. trying to kill the Wildebeests when they threaten the Titans, trying to kill Hugo Strange for trying to kill Bruce, lashing out at Tumult when he hurts Tim),
he's feeling attacked or betrayed and he's lashing out in self-defense (so e.g. a lot of the fights with Bruce, punching Roy after Roy fires him in New Titans, or calling Roy a junkie when Roy tells him he's just like Bruce in Outsiders, or yelling at Tim when Tim's insisting he should be Robin again),
he's angry about a lack of loyalty (so e.g. he's furious and feels betrayed when he learns that Bruce has replaced him with Jason; he's angry at Bruce for picking Azrael as Batman instead of Dick; he's angry at Tim when Tim suggests Bruce might be a murderer)
he's jealous (so e.g. he's hurt and angry when Kory marries someone else; his resentment of Azrael is much more about Bruce than it is about Azrael)
he's angry at another vigilante for behaving too violently/irresponsibly (so e.g. he has multiple fights with Kory insisting that she can't kill anyone; he's similarly furious with Bruce when he thinks Bruce has tried to kill someone; he snaps at the Titans in general after a failed mission; he's harsh about Tim and his team during Graduation Day)
he's unhappy and taking it out on someone else, often to drive them away (so e.g. he snaps at Donna and Alfred when he's depressed about Kory's marriage - arguably there's some supernatural influence here, but IMO he'd do it anyway; he gets snappish with Tim when he's depressed about his own lack of progress with Chulo/in Blüdhaven and also when he's actually mad at Bruce about Jean-Paul; he's very harsh to Babs and Wally when they try to comfort him post-J:LL; arguably most of his behavior in Outsiders after Donna's death falls under this category too),
he's unhappy and he's taking it out on an inanimate object (so e.g. smashing things after hearing about Kory's potential marriage; punching his car until his hand is bloody after Bruce has been a jerk to him, smashing a sign when Babs is jabbing at him by comparing him to Bruce),
his privacy is being violated by paparazzi (Dick hates photographers and will not hesitate to punch them or destroy their equipment)
I think something important about all these reasons is... they're understandable? It's not surprising that Dick is upset about the woman he loves marrying someone else; it would be stranger if he wasn't upset. It's not surprising that he lashes out defensively when he's feeing attacked - this is an extremely common thing to do! Dick's anger isn't a weird cloud of rage that just descends on him for no reason; he gets angry when he has something to get angry about.
That said, he does have particular things he's especially touchy about - loyalty, privacy, control, etc. And his anger can be physical - he does break things.
Dick + annoyance with friends/teammates
Dick calls a team meeting to rebuke the Titans in Titans 13
This is lower-key, so I wouldn't always describe this as anger per se, but it feels relevant: Dick can get snappish if he's in a bad mood, though he'll usually back off if it's pointed out to him:
Dick: Half this world goes to hell in a handcart and you do nothing? Donna: Hey, don't shout at me because your personal life has gone crazy. We had a crisis… Dick: You had a crisis? Who hasn't? And my personal life, for what it's worth, is a: just fine, and b: none of your business. Do me a favor and go. I want to be alone. (NTT 18 - Dick's upset because Kory is marrying someone else)
Dick: Roy! What the hell is this? Why is Lian in the way? She should be in a crib or something, not where people can step on her. Roy: Dick, my daughter is in nobody's way, and I'm watching her every move. Dick: Oh, yeah? Well, I've had it - Roy: Dick, your friends are here to help you and you're not making it any easier. C'mon, pal - calm down. Dick: You're right. I'm sorry. This is all getting to me. Roy: Really? The immediate world and I never noticed. (NT 100)
Dick (surprising Tim): You should've known you wouldn't hear anything. Not in this wind - but if you'd been downwind on the other side, you might have scented me. Tim (startled): Nightwing! Dick: You did want to meet - or do you just like playing computer games? Now let’s make it snappy - I’m in New York on my own business. Tim: And a big fat hi to you, too. (Showcase '93 11 - Dick's upset because he's blaming himself for someone Chulo murdered)
Dick: He didn't send you to check up on me? Tim: Huh? Dick (scowling): Don't play dumb. Tim: Batman? I came down on my own, Dick. What's with the attitude? Dick: Sorry, Tim. I haven't been making a lot of progress since I got here. (N 6 - Dick's self-aware here - he's on edge because he thinks he's doing a bad job)
Babs: Okay, calm down, take a deep breath, and explain again why you’re so angry… Dick: Why am I angry? I’m not angry, I’m–I’m–I’m dismayed, okay? I’m dismayed that there can be a Robin who believes Batman could be guilty of murder! How could that happen, Babs? How could that happen?! (GK 26) Kory: You could say goodbye to your teammates. Dick: They're not my teammates anymore. Kory: They noticed. (TT/O Secret Files 2005)
You'll notice that several of these include Dick backtracking and apologizing. He doesn't hold grudges or fume forever! And Dick's generally self-aware enough to realize why he's snappish once he takes a step back:
Dick: I…I’m sorry…I know this isn’t your fault. Here I’m attacking you - and you’re probably just as scared as I am. I just feel so frustrated. Batman could always remain calm in a crisis. I guess that’s just another difference between us. Maybe I’d be better off if I just cut myself off from all feeling like he does. (NT 77)
Something Dick generally isn't apologetic about: Dick is intensely self-critical about badly-done vigilante work, and in a team setting, he's not that patient with other people's mistakes.
Here's Dick calling a team meeting so he can scold the team in Titans 13:
Dick: Lock the doors, sit down, and pay attention. And that's an order. ... Our performance against Tartarus and the HIVE was unacceptable. Each and every one of you should thank God you weren't killed.
Here's an argument between Dick and Donna in Graduation Day 2 - the context is that Young Justice just screwed up an earlier fight, and Tim's berating himself and Conner while Dick and Donna eavesdrop (you'll notice that like Dick, Tim tends to be pretty self-critical + impatient with teammates):
Conner: The Titans got their lumps. Tim: No, the Titans got our lumps. They were looking out for us. There we were, shoulder to shoulder with the inspiration for Young Justice. And we lose half our team and half of theirs. Conner: Tim, I bet they were a lot like us when they started. Tim: No, I don't think so. (Donna and Dick are eavesdropping.) Donna: He's being awfully hard on himself. Kind of reminds me of someone. Dick: I don't know what you're talking about. Donna: You could tell him he's wrong. Dick: Is he? Donna: We stepped in it plenty of times, Dick. Plenty. We got beat by Dr. Light. Completely pantsed by Trident. We had the ill-conceived idea that the Mad Mod was a threat. There was that time in South America when we left Garth in the sun for three hours. Lots of stuff… We even got kidnapped by Count Vertigo. How embarrassing was that? Dick: I didn't get kidnapped. I got nabbed when I was coming to save Roy. Donna: Nevertheless, they could use a kind word. Dick: I'm not sure a kind word is what they need.
The upshot is that Donna goes to comfort Cassie while Dick goes off alone.
Again, the point is not that Dick goes around fuming about his teammates 24/7! He cares about the Titans and trusts them to watch his back; he feels the same way about Tim.
But in the heat of the moment, he'll sometimes get snappish or impatient, especially with people he's close to. The friends that Dick has who stick around are the ones who are tough enough to stand up to him, and who understand him enough not to take his occasional moods personally.
Dick + lashing out at loved ones
This one's a bit meaner. Dick's really good at picking out other people's insecurities, which he almost never uses against them ... but when he's retaliating, he's got an instinct for what will hurt the most:
Dick: No, I won't stop it. How dare you tell me what to do when you screwed up so badly Raven could be dead by now? Who knows what Mento did to Gar and Vic? Maybe your failure killed Kole. No, I won't stop. I won't! Donna (punching him): Shut up, Dick! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! I don't want to hear anymore! Dick: But you're going to, Donna. You made me listen to what you had to say. But you don't like hearing the truth about yourself, do you? The perfect Donna Troy maybe isn't so perfect after all. (NTT 19 - Dick's under an ambiguous amount of Brother Blood influence during this period, but he's also just really upset about Kory, and I tend to interpret BB as "reducing his self-control" not "he's a totally different person")
Bruce: I didn't expect to see you again. Dick: I heard about Jason. I'm really sorry, Bruce. Bruce: You weren't at the funeral. People asked about you. Dick: C'mon, Bruce - talk. Don't turn your back on me. I'm here… now. Bruce: You were lucky. When you didn't listen to me, your injuries weren't fatal. Of course, by the time I properly trained you - Dick: Bruce, c'mon…lay off. I'm not here to fight. Bruce: Then don't! Dick: Are you blaming me? I left, so Jason replaced me, and because I left he died? No way, pal. Jason wasn't me. I was a trained acrobat. I could think quickly in perilous situations. But why did you let him become Robin before he was ready?!? Bruce (punching him): Don't you dare blame me for Jason's death! Don't you dare! (NT 55 - this fight is ofc 110% Bruce's fault even before the punch, but Dick absolutely is blaming Bruce for Jason's death here) Dick (trying to punch Roy): GET YOUR HANDS OFF ME, YOU TRAITOR! Roy: Dick, I'm your friend… Blast it, man - why are you doing this? Dick: Friends don't turn on friends, Harper. I've been there every time you called me. I sat up with you all night while you were detoxing. That was not a pretty sight. (NT 101 - Dick's upset about getting fired as team leader)
Dick: I disgraced myself and my uniform. Both uniforms. I have to learn to live with that or quit. No more surprise visits, Babs. Don't make me sorry I put an elevator in this building. (BoP 37)
Roy: Look at you! Your greatest fear in life, the thing that eats at you - is that you're terrified of becoming Batman!! A cold, detached, emotionless loner. I've got news for you, that's exactly what you are. You've become the man who raised you. Dick: Yeah…and you're just like the man who raised you. A shallow, self-loathing, womanizing thrill-seeker. Except he was never a junkie. (O 16) Gar: I guess it doesn't bother you that your new teammate killed your old one? 'Cause it sure bothers the hell outta me. Dick: Enough. I'm here to find Kory and Tim. I don't need Terra's best friend lecturing me about loyalty. (TT/O Secret Files 2005)
Dick + 1st meetings with future siblings (+Steph)
I hesitated including this on the list because it's lower-key and not always anger per se, but I think a lot of times when people say Dick "has a temper," they're not necessarily talking about his angriest moments so much as pushing back against the idea that he's happy or welcoming all the time.
If you're reading post-Crisis canon, Dick's a prickly introvert who can be slow to warm up to newcomers in Gotham. He's not exclusively cranky by any means! But he's not all smiles, either. Here are some snappish moments from first meetings with Jason, Tim, Cass, Damian, and Steph:
Dick: They'll probably switch to another lab, now that you've spooked them. Jason: Then it's no big deal! We'll just locate their new digs and bust them when they take possession. Dick: Wrong! I'll locate the new lab all by myself! You're going home to tell Batman how you screwed up tonight! Jason: Come on... (from Dick's first meeting with Jason in B 416 - Jason attacked a group of criminals too hastily)
Dick: Now, who the hell are you? Tim: That doesn't matter now. Dick, look at this please. Dick: Kid, I don't like games. (from Dick's first-technically-second meeting with Tim in LPoD - Tim's been chasing him all around the circus, and although Dick doesn't yet know this, also broke into his apartment)
Bruce: You can trust her. Dick: Six months ago, that would've gotten you further than it will now. Now, I'm not sure it's enough. Bruce: What more would it take? Dick: An explanation of who she is for a start. (from Dick's first meeting with Cass in B: LotDK 120 - Bruce went AWOL for months and has now resurfaced with a protégé) Jason: It's a new world. It's not all backflips and balance bars. You were good. Were. But Gotham needs a tougher Robin now. Dick (internally): A sneaky, mean little punk. Maybe you hired him before the Joker could. (from the retold version of Dick's first meeting with Jason in N 104 - Bruce gave stupid instructions leading Jason to misunderstand and pick a fight with Dick)
Dick (internally, when he notices Damian's makeshift Robin costume): Damian's costume. Note to self: smack a clue into this kid. Damian: You're embarrassing me! Dick: You do that just fine on your own. (from Dick's first meeting with Damian in N 138 - Damian's probably scared, which means he's snarky; he's making rude remarks and resisting Dick and Tim's attempts to protect him)
Dick: What in the hell were - are - you thinking, throwing someone so reckless into the field like that? Babs: Gosh, Dick - I'm sorry I haven't spent more time trying to train a murderous little twit. (from right after Dick's first meeting with Steph in BG 5 - Steph accidentally froze Damian)
How much you weight these moments depends a lot on your personal aesthetic preferences! I love conflict, and Dick's initially kinda thorny relationships with his siblings are part of why I enjoy him as a character. I don't feel the need to "fix" this kind of grumpiness and honestly I don't even really see it as a flaw? Dick's not morally obliged to like his future siblings on first meeting them, and if he never got snappish with any siblings ever, no matter how annoying they were being, he'd be a lot less interesting to me personally.
For me, Dick's prickly side adds an important nuance to his characterization, and makes it more compelling. He's a human being, not a conduct book! His strength is that he's willing to reconsider his first impressions, not that he never has negative first impressions.
That said, obviously genre and context matter! I have enjoyed plenty of softer takes on the Batfamily in fanworks, and in a softer, gentler world like e.g. WFA, it would be weird to keep Dick's grumpier moments. Also, Dick obviously isn't 24/7 harsh to his siblings - he can also be really empathetic and protective, and although he never gets especially close to e.g. Steph, he does change his mind about her, and he's ultimately a huge source of emotional support to Tim and Damian (they grow on him! ... eventually).
In Conclusion
One of my favorite Dick stories of all time is Nightwing 139, and I think it nicely encapsulates how I see Dick's anger - it's an important contrast to his softer side. He's a person with an instinctive temper, and compassion and understanding aren't always immediate or easy or effortless for him. But he's also a loving person with a big heart, and it's the love that always matters to him in the end.
Here's Dick discovering that Tim is thinking about using the Lazarus Pit, getting angry, and leaping down to try to physically stop him ("He may not stop you, but I sure as hell will!")
Dick (sarcastically): So, Robin... you think maybe we can hug this out?
It's important to me that Dick's first instinct is to have a physical fight, not to try to talk! He does all the wrong things before he does the right thing! He doesn't magically know the right thing to say to Tim right away!
But doing the right thing matters to him, and Tim matters to him, which is why he gets there eventually. When Tim tears up Dick softens at once:
And in the end Dick backs off and lets Tim make the choice, which isn't easy or instinctive for him either! But it's the right thing to do, and it's what Tim needs to pull himself out of the power struggle and realize he's making a mistake, and then Tim stammers apologies and Dick reassures him and they do hug it out, and it's very tender:
Without Dick's anger, you don't have a lot of his stories. But his anger doesn't define him - he doesn't let it. As Dick puts it,
"Yeah, I get angry. Sometimes I get so pissed I want to break everything in sight. But everyone gets mad. Everyone gets frustrated. But I don't fight out of anger! I fight when there's something wrong that needs to be stopped! And that's why I'll never be you! I don't fight to kill - I fight to protect!
And that's a big part of why I think he's great.
#dick grayson#anyway this is a huge disorganized list but uhhh. enjoy? sdfsf#it's tricky to write about this because it's not like i don't enjoy super-soft takes on dick - i do!#dick's anger isn't gonna have a place in every single story especially in fanworks#and often part of the point of fanworks is to give us the softer moments that canon doesn't!#Dick often gets softened to contrast with other characters in fanworks and that makes sense too#but at the same time Dick's sharper edges are so important to me in the comics and a really big part of why i like him#and a big reason why a lot of nuDick's writing leaves me just bored#(i am a gremlin who likes to have gritty conflict in my comics!! softening things is what fanworks are for!!)#yes post-Crisis Dick can be prickly but he's prickly because he's a serious person who lives in a serious world with consequences#his parents' deaths MATTER to him. doing vigilante work right MATTERS to him. he gets touchy BECAUSE he cares so much!#and Dick's struggle with his emotions is what makes his softer side feel more real and meaningful to me <3#ask tag#prickly dick grayson my beloved

toma headcanons because im crazy (cw for stuff on his route + some nsfw):
he smoked in highschool:
in his concept art, he's shown with a cigarette in his mouth (in fact thats one of the only things that was changed from his final design lol). i headcanon that while he was in highschool and very emotionally silly over the heroine / his feelings towards her, he'd kind of avoid her and hang around the "wrong crowds", eventually getting into smoking. he used it as stress relief but its also had the opposite effect bc heroine would KILL him if he ever smoked.. so ? he just kind of sat there feeling guilty and depressed (as toma tends to do).
anyways he quit cold turkey at one point because he got caught by shin. shin was PISSED. he made toma swear that he'd quit immediately otherwise he'd tell the heroine what he was doing (tbh the only threat that would actually work; especially when hes still a teenager and less hateful towards shin). i think he lectured him sooo hard and called him an idiot 5 morbillion times
i feel like i need to clarify that toma was probably the lamest rebellious kid out there. like yeah he smoked but he was doing it bc it was a group expectation, not because he really wanted to.
not entirely inexperienced:
going back to toma in highschool; its canon that he dated a bunch of girls who asked him out, though i don't think he ever got really far with them. i think he's kissed like one girl out of obligation / because he felt like he needed to keep up the act or at least Try to get over the heroine; though i think he probably broke up with that girl soon after. i doubt that any girl he ever dated wouldnt notice his goo goo eyes for the heroine LOL so maybe they knew what they were getting into.
soo i dont think heroine is his first kiss (tho i do think she's his first in other aspects)
sexuality in general:
i think toma is honest to god super repressed in terms of his own sexuality and that's where most of his issues come from. this man does not see ANY (LITERALLY ANY. even nonsexual) of his desires as being normal. that's why he really was so okay with just being onii-chan... it was a safe space for him where he could live in his "wholesome ideals" of a relationship. i feel like most of his talk abt "im a man!!! im a man i could take advantage of you!!" was out of legitimate fear that his sexual side was some beast that he had to keep caged (haha) and that he might hurt the very person he cares abt most in the world. so w that in mind i really can't see this guy being super overtly horny LOL. cage ending aside while i think hes a freak in the sheets or whatever he would be so shy and demure about it all... ahhh heroine... u can't just look at me like that... kyaaa... hes the kind of guy to freeze like a deer in headlights when anything romantic or sexual happens (i like it... but i shouldn't... but i should pull away.. but i don't want to....)
i think hes a soft dom w service top tendencies tee be aich... though id love to go down on him (Who said that ?! )
he totally has a maid fetish imo. it's basically canon so like... that being said it's funny as fuck that he's like Tch... I don't want you to be a maid for other people... you'll just be a maid for me 😈 (in his bad end). like cmon man.
silly:
- i like to imagine that toma learned how to drive purely because he wanted to be able to help shin and the heroine out ... he is the reliable older brother chauffeur of your dreams. I also like to think that he really sucked ass at first though and he got pulled over for running a stop sign once.
- this is just me but i hc him with Poland syndrome 👍👍
#toma amnesia#headcanons#im crazy#will add more later but these are the ones i was thinking about lol

Hii! This is my first time messaging any fanfic author (I'm an extremely anxious person and tend to be more of a lurker LOL) I'm so sorry but this might be a long one lmfao
First of all, the way you write in general? Absolutely phenomenal!! The way you characterise and describe scenes is honestly so incredibly immersing. I've always had a relatively easy time imagining scenes in my head when reading, even with relatively little detail, but the way you word everything puts the scene straight into my head and it's such a wonderful experience!
Your characterisation of Gojo (in all your works!!) is probably my absolute favourite out of any fanfics I've read of him (trust me I've read an embarrassing amount :sob:). The way you actually capture what he feels like in canon, without making him feel super mean or cold, but still retaining that side of being emotionally repressed is absolutely chefs kiss!!
I also really love y/n in both kickoff and ihm so much. I relate to both of them in different ways, but probably more so ihm reader personality wise (might also be because I'm around the same age as her lmao). As someone who is very emotionally repressed due to trauma (especially of loved ones leaving you), the way you've portrayed those sides of reader in ihm is VERY spot on!! And I would like to add that I, for one, LOVE slow burn, so I don't mind the pace ihm is going at right now personally!
Chapter 12 of Kickoff?!?!? Holy shit I was literally sat there blushing, kicking my feet and giggling. It was absolutely hilarious and super cliché in the absolutely best way possible (I absolutely love clichés if they're well used!)
I could honestly wait years for anything you write. Never feel any pressure to churn out your writing and take it at your own pace!! My genuine first thought after finishing the latest chapter of Kickoff was that it was sooo worth the wait haha.
Personally I have an extremely hard time writing anything but angst, because I like making myself sad I guess who knows LOL But I'm sooo excited about your next work!! I absolutely love the song you're basing it off of <3
AND did I also see some talk about a potential Spider-man Gojo fic in the future??? Cos I would honestly probably scream (in a good way lol) if you ever did that, he's my alltime favourite superhero!!
Okok this is getting really long, but I found this photo of four football players a bit ago and thought I absolutely HAD to draw them as Gojo, Geto, Choso and Nanami from Kickoff (adding the art at the bottom)! But I haven't gotten around to colouring it yet (or cleaning it up considering it's just a sketch lmaoo) cos I'm stuck on how to do the jerseys. So I have two questions! I know you've explained the colours of their jerseys, but do you have any particular idea in mind of what the design on the jersey itself looks like? As in where the colours are placed specifically etc? And we know Gojo's signature jersey number, but do you have numbers for the rest of them too? (I may or may not also have a wip of a drawing of just Gojo from Kickoff too!)
I'm sorry there's A LOT of different plot points in my message??? The most important part was just to convey, hey, I love the way you write and you should definitely give yourself some more credit cos you are genuinely a really good writer!! <3 (Though I know us artists tend to be our own worst critics LOL)
hi love i’m so sorry this took me a sec to respond to!! first off thanks you so much for sending me such a sweet ask :’’’) i literally gaspeddd when i saw it
aaa i’m so happy the scenes feel immersive!! and that you enjoy my characterization of gojo aaa i’m so happy to hear that. and yes i totally relate to ihm reader’s suppression of her emotions due to trauma and lack of trust so it’s been very…cathartic yet challenging to write for her, but i wouldn’t have it any other way hahah
i’m so glad you enjoyed kickoff ch12!! i totally agree that chapter was so cliche, honestly it made me cringe while i was writing it because i typically hate cliches esp when they’re corny rather than on-the-nose, but i posted it anyways bc i figured maybe i just hate it bc i’m the author xd but it seems my readers enjoyed it so :’’0 perhaps i made the right choice
oh you are too kind. i really appreciate you looking out for me <3 tbh i’ve been feeling really overwhelmed lately, and it’s been really hard to deal with the emotions, but coming on here and seeing sweet works n ppl interacting w my stories brings me lots of happiness n i can’t thank you enough :’’) yes i will definitely take my time bahahha that i can assure you LOL and i’m so happy to know you’re looking forward to more of my works!! you’re so right about artists/authors being our own worst critics. i swear no one has been as mean to my writing as i have LMFAOOO but alas i think i’ve gotten better in trusting my direction n kinda choosing what i think is best soooo. progress i suppose? hahah
ok. now. i can talk about. THE ART?!?!?!?!? HELLO!!!!!!! OH MY GODD?!?!!?!?! ok i KNOWWW that’s it’s just a sketch so far but tell me whERE MY PANTIES HAVE GONE?!?!?!? WHERE MY CLOTHES ARE AT?!?!??!
the expression on kickoff gojo’s face has me reeling he looks so focused n sexy and THE HEADBAND PUSHING HIS HAIR UP OUT OF HIS FACE YES YES YES 100% THAT’S HOW I PICTURE IT WHEN I WRITE AAA and kickoff geto’s expression too pls i could cum (sorry i hope this isn’t weird to say lmfaooo i am also very respectfully looking at your artwork as well aaa) nanami’s hair looks so nice too
as for the uniforms hmm i know i said like gold and blue colors, i believe actual real-life UTOKYO has more of a yellowish color but i actually like gold better hence why i chose gold. but…i can imagine the whole jersey being blue and then with gold accents then white numbering?
here are some options!! like w the first one, probs sky blue fabric with the white stripes as gold instead, and then the numbers/brand sponsors or whatever are in white? they would probs have like “UTOKYO” in large print somewhere too, maybe underneath their numbers or sumn. tbh i think the middle one is the nicest, i can picture the stripes of blue and gold, and then accents in white. but the third one also works too!!
as for numbers hmm. ok yes gojo is #10, geto is #7, choso is #4 and nanami is #24 :0 that sounds…about right! LOL i hope i don’t have it somewhere in the other chapters that they are different numbers although i don’t think i’ve assigned the other boys numbers before
BUT I HOPE THIS HELPS AND THANKS SOSOSOSOSOSO MUCH FOR DRAWING FANART INSPIRED BY MY FIC!!!! I AM SO HUMBLED BY YOU AND I’M SOOOO EXCITED TO SEE THE FINAL DRAWING BUT ALSO NO PRESSURE AAAAAAAA
so much loveee <333

12 + 14 for both Guts and Griffith ? (:
Ooh thx @hawkfawun ! ♡
GUTS + What's a headcanon you have for this character?
I don't think Guts would worry much about stuff like what it would mean about him and his sexual orientation or what other people might think of him if he was interested in Griffith as more than a friend. Doesn't seem to really even cross his mind much, aside from during his initial gruff uncomfortableness when Griffith first comes onto him very strong (which I think is due to how poorly Guts was socialized as a kid, how he has never experienced somebody take an interest in him positively like that before, and also because of his traumatic experience with Donovan). I think the reservations he might have about letting Griffith even closer to him or believing that Griffith actually genuinely "wants him" would be more due to his self-esteem issues, his general trust issues, and his good ol' fashioned shyness and social obliviousness. So it bugs me whenever I see people in the fandom elsewhere making a big deal about how he'd wrestle with the idea of having a queer attraction or acting like it's something that would be a huge source of shame or inner turmoil for Guts, because it just doesn't really ring that true to me based on how he actually thinks and acts and talks about Griffith to others in canon. I think his insecurity about feeling inferior to Griffith is the main thing he worries about in their relationship more than anything else.
GRIFFITH + What's a headcanon you have for this character?
I think Griffith is pretty dang emotionally intelligent in how quickly he recognizes and analyzes his own feelings and other people's too, actually. I've seen people say the reverse about him before, that he's a complete idiot about recognizing his own repressed emotions and desires and whatnot, but to me he comes off almost the polar opposite of that? At least before he does the sacrifice and transforms. In my opinion being super repressed and not emotionally intelligent means you struggle to even recognize you have feelings in the first place, and are also not good at accurately naming or recognizing the emotions you or anybody else are having or the possible reasons why, and are afraid to try to dig into that stuff any further. But Griffith basically instantly decides that he likes Guts and tells him that he does, and he also has a lot of clear ideas about his desires and ideals and dreams and how to get what he wants in general and how to give other people what they want. And I'm also thinking about stuff like how he will sit and walk himself through all the various things he's feeling and being pretty honest with himself about it all, like when we get inside his mind during his imprisonment for a bit. I feel like a lot of Griffith's misery and internal struggling in the Golden Age actually comes from how NOT repressed he is about how he feels much of the time, and from realizing how incompatible with each other or how futile some of his different desires and goals might be. Like I think he was pretty frustrated and hurt over making his emotional attachment so bare to Guts right from the start and then ending up feeling totally abandoned and rejected by him – I also understand why Guts had the hangups of his own that he did at every point, but I still can't help but feel bad for Griffith wearing his heart on his sleeve so boldly like that during the Golden Age and yet never really getting much of any direct obvious indication that his affections were returned, when in reality Guts DID feel the same. I sometimes don't blame him for going so extreme the other way with how hard he tries to remove all his feelings after that when I think about how shitty it must have been during those moments where he felt totally rejected and humiliated and abandoned during his torture and imprisonment after Guts left.
GUTS + Assign a fashion aesthetic to this character.
Omg good question. I don't have any idea what label to give him... but to me he'd be something between like a metalhead/punk and a biker and a lumberjack/working-man blue collar kind of aesthetic, haha. Like wearing the same black cutoff T-shirt and trousers and big heavy boots every day. Probably would get stuff mostly at like military surplus stores and thrift stores and be thinking much more about practicality and durability and protection with what he's wearing than anything else. And he definitely wouldn't be willingly putting himself into too many situations where he had to wear a suit and tie or anything overly fancy or formal. Though I guess he got a little dramatic and sassy with his Three Musketeers type ensemble that one time...
GRIFFITH + Assign a fashion aesthetic to this character.
Hahaha omg I'm so bad at this, it's def not my strong-suit to know and name all the specific fashion aesthetics and trends. Well, he definitely likes to get dressier and pay more attention to what he wears than Guts does, and he'd have a wider range of clothes in his closet too. He'd be switching between stuff he wears when he has to impress in the public eye and the stuff he wears when he's working or fighting or just hanging out with the boys. I think he'd have some fun with it too and know his most flattering colours and how to accessorize and whatnot. If it was a modern Griffith AU I think he'd probably not just be wearing like the most basic boring bro business suits when he has to be formal or anything either, like he'd be more androgynous and adventurous about it and still have some lace or frills or fun colours going on somewhere or something 😆 But that's about all I got, and I have no idea what you'd call it or what kind of specific aesthetic box to put it in, sorry...

How do you feel about VATSK as a concept? I’ve noticed a lot of people in the fandom like it but have things they would change, so I want to know your opinion
the concept itself is something i genuinely really am Deeply intrigued by (i'd have to be if im at this level of fixated on it) and generally i absolutely love it
i DO have a habit of fixating on things that have a base concept that simultaneously lets me add my own takes to it. i like being given interesting concepts and then building off of them. i'll admit that with vat7k- it's probably the most intense it's ever been LOL.... kind of sick in the head about it
that all being said, i do certainly have things i would change both in terms of the initial concept the storyboard artists created and what some of the fandom likes to do. here are some off the top of my head:
retcon the 7 kingdoms as they appear in tangled the series. like it wasnt a big deal within tangled's story but i think these kingdoms need to be better fleshed out and have a stronger form of identity. there is no way i can accept nuru's kingdom just being Generic European Kingdom, for example. i probably would change hugo's kingdom too and focus on heavy industrialism instead of just "scary warrior women" (to be fair to vat7k, the concepts dont seem to use the 7 kingdoms in tangled as the base anyway lol but just in case... im saying i would change them)
bloodline does not equal inherent similarities. with both varian's mother being an alchemist like him and his mom's side of the family being inventors too... it implies there might have been a trope im not super fond of. instead, i prefer the idea that varian has to learn that there is no inherent, birth-given truth that makes him who he is. his family became inventors because of the environment they live in, not because of something in their blood. i like the idea that the more he learns about his mom (and the unsavory parts about her), the more he fears he's becoming exactly like her (which culminates at the end). credit again to the concept- it seems like that was the idea with ulla, i would just want to make sure that notion is consistent throughout the story
hugo's character (in regards to some aspects). ive talked about it many times before but while i love most of his character there are a couple things i'd change about him. namely the idea he's flirtatious and the idea he is greedy in the typical thief way. i think he is far too emotionally repressed and distrustful that he'd ever (even casually with intimacy) want to do anything like that (this includes all forms of affection, including platonic friendship). i also think that while his longing for Finer Things and Wealth is present- it doesn't take the form of coveting precious jewels and treasure. he would more quickly be drawn to a device with top-of-the-line material than a golden crown. this kind of ties in with my whole take that he is ever so pretentious and particular about things- but that's also a sign that deep down he just genuinely has a strong spirit and sense of self, i just dont think he realizes this and considers himself a bad person, but doesnt really care if hes stuck being bad (lie). he is also, yknow, incredibly intelligent with a brilliant mind that makes him stand out to other thieves. this is important, and something varian can see quite clearly
varian's past is a big plot point. credit to the fandom this time, it does seem like this is generally accepted as something that should happen even if the concept doesn't seem to really talk about it at all. i would definitely want to delve more into the trauma varian has and the guilt he carries with him and how that works with hugo- someone also holding guilt and trauma. not to say the others would have nothing to do with it- they would! it's an important part of the story, for me, to depict how these characters handle trauma and a past they're not proud of (and even scared of)
#ty for indulging me. i tried to keep it minimal and its still an ungodly wall of text. sad !#asks#vat7k#i always want vat7k asks from people interested in what my beautiful mind has to say about it /lh#if there are typos or weird rambling sentences um. no there isnt

Not the same anon, but in regards to the other two anons about Leona potential epilogue stuffs, I'd like throw in my two cents.
Consider: Leona is a tsundere. As we all know, from our collective education at Anime Uni, tsunderes are master bluffers, who crumble when they get called out. Affection overloads them.
As such, we can assume that Leona, king tsundere, is all snark until we massage his ears, or that spot right on the base of his tail. He who actively spurns affection & other living beings in general also wants us to believe that he's super experienced, confident, and dominant in the explicit department? I don't think so. Actively spurning/threatening/driving away all others who come near you, & being a total godly deviant in the explicit department are near mutually exclusive things. One of these is truth, but the other is classic tsundere bluff, and as we've observed Leona over the weeks, which is which is becoming obvious.
In conclusion: At the hands of our confident MC, Leona will crumble and reveal his nature as a bratty sub, as god intended. In this essay I will-
Okay okay okay but like, this actually is a WHOLE crutch of a debate I had with a friend over trying to nail down his characterization. Because on one hand, ALL OF THIS. YES. EXACTLY THIS. She was like "as much as I want this man to be an active participant, do you SEE how lazy and emotionally repressed he is? Stupid pillow princess lion waiting to happen." Which on one hand, I can see.
On the other hand, we all saw him in his book. When this man is challenged with something he wants to win he will fight for it. (In dirty/underhanded ways sometimes, sure. But also like when his housemates are stupid? Boy, he puts them in their place hard and fast) He is definitely a zero-to-one-hundred sort of person. I think especially paired with Cottage!MC's deadpan obliviousness and laissez-faire attitude, he would be super frustrated about 'proving his worth' and getting some sort of reaction out of them. Like, he only really gives up and rolls over as a defense mechanism (that whole, 'if they're not going to acknowledge me the way I want anyways, why should I bother doing anything' mentality of his), but he knows (at least subconsciously at this point, slowly getting dragged up the surface of him) that this MC is not going to judge him or belittle him if he fucks up. Or at least not in the way he's used to--being held accountable for your actions is so much different from having the whole of you panned for doing those things to begin with.
So if there's none of that inherent need to just stop trying because this person will encourage him no matter what, where does that leave the rest of him? And we're back to that mix of 'fight to the death for his pride and proving his mettle' versus 'lay back and enjoy the show.' Which inevitably makes me settle on the conclusion that this man would be a switch, your honor

hello i wanted to say that i enjoy your art so much<3 its such a cute style and im eating and leaving no crumbs.
also me and my friend found out a week ago about Swifty and him being able to draw and im glad you can put that into your art works
we also really love Bumlets, Swifty, and Skittery dearly and we were wondering what your opinion you have of all 3 of them shipped together since Bumlets and Swifty seemed to be close in your drawings (this is also Tumblr were talking about bc it has ruined me and my friends mind)
either way still really love your art! keep it up, your doing amazing :3
THIS IS SO KIND <333
First of all thank you so much this def made my day!!!!! that's so sweet of you to say I appreciate it a lot <33 Putting my thoughts abt them being shipped below bc it's a bit long and I understand people have differing opinions on it! (There's also art under the cut!)
I do like to ship them as a trio! Though more often than not I like to write them platonic with vaguely romantic undertones because I think all of them are too emotionally repressed to put a name to their thoughts. And they're teenagers stuck in a closely knit workplace situation while having to maintain their independence so I don't think based on the historical setting there would be much time for internal introspection. So I don't focus as much on the shipping aspect. Still I think they're dynamic is super fun to play with their as a trio in general whether that be as platonic or romantic. I just don't necessarily see them ever committing to anything mostly out of their own self-preservation.
That doesn't mean in my headcanon's there's nothing going on there. I personally love the idea that they all look out for eachother in little ways. It's a running gag in my art that Swifty steals food for Skittery because he always looks so worn out taking care of Tumbler. And Bumlets will take Swifty out to the town to help him blow off stress or distract him from causing trouble. Or they'll sit around while Skittery complains about someone (usually David or Racetrack) either agreeing with him or making fun of the 3rd party.
However you spin it, I just think they work well together. Anyways come talk to me about them individually or as a trio anytime you want!!! I would love to talk about them more often besides my art, but I'm putting some down here too bc this ask got me inspired to draw some stuff out.

Would it be in character to have extremely cheese romancey fanart of Aisha x Alec? Like ..... I kinda wanna
[hits button that drops everyone else waiting in the ask line into a gigantic pit of lava so you're first]
extremely comically ridiculously awfully hilariously not in character. they simply do not work like that. at all. alec isn't even really consciously aware that he [teenage crush gossip voice] liiiikes her--because he only got through his childhood by furiously repressing all of his own emotions, especially the ones involving Caring About Things--but even if he was aware you couldn't pry an admittance of that fact out of him with a fucking crowbar. like you know that post about Worm Prom? alec would respond to aisha asking what he thinks about her super high-effort cool Worm Prom outfit by going "it's alright" but then when they actually get to the Worm Prom he immediately starts pointing his scepter at random children and demanding they bow to the prom queen (aisha) and tell her her outfit is cool. like that's how he expresses affection.
aisha, on the other hand, knows she thinks he's pretty cute (and is good enough at Noticing Things about the undersiders to guess that alec keeps compulsively touching her w/ a level of intimacy he doesn't give anyone else for a reason) but is perfectly content with keeping their little teenage Thing where it is instead of trying to escalate further and making it weird or too serious. so their relationship status is "shitty teen besties who never talk about their relationship status + would rather die than behave like, say, brian and taylor do, but do occasionally act on mutual attraction with no real expectations for the future beyond 'we're gonna keep hanging out.'" whereas someone like taylor could never kiss another one of the undersiders and then carry on without addressing, it aisha and alec do absolutely kiss 2-3 times tops and never speak about it before or after, and they're okay with that. alec does occasionally wonderhope if she'll do it again though. he thinks she has nice chapstick.
that said. the aishalec content situation is even more dire than the briantaylor content situation so you'd be forgiven. like i'll take crumbs at this point. drawing their version of romance is so much more fun than drawing something generic though. it's a million more times interesting to include the flair of what makes those characters Those Characters instead of tossing them in situations they would literally never be in. you can draw whatever you want forever but, like, fanart of them doing things they would actually do >>> cheesy stereotypical romantic fanart of them. their style of romance is:
- alec using his power on her and smiling like a big ole dumbass on her face + telling her to Shut Up about it even though she's not actually saying anything just feeling generally positive emotions about him (all of which he can feel, and all of which are forming 'ohhhhh i would die for her' neuron connections in his brain entirely unbeknownst to him)
- making fun of shitty movies together and accidentally falling asleep on the couch w/ their heads on opposite armrests and their legs overlapping
- when aisha calls someone lame and alec immediately goes "REALLY lame," because he's whipped
- casual physical contact in general. alec is emotionally repressed to fuck and back and couldn't consciously reason his feelings out enough to express them via words + very canonically likes physical intimacy and aisha is also not the type of person to verbally express affection either for a variety of reasons so this is how you end up w/ scenes like the one in canon where they're doing an extended bit together while alec has an arm over her shoulder. leaning on each other, aisha hauling alec around by his wrist, arms over shoulders, always standing next to each other, etc. little casual touches where neither of them are being visibly flustered or anything but how glued at the waist they are makes it obvious 2 anyone watching that Those Kids Like Each Other. it's like when emo kids sit on each others laps while hanging out at the mall except alec is more of a claires boy. she was a hot topic girl he was a claires boy need i say more
- actually if we want to be cheesy and self indulgent literally just put them on a little date at the mall neither of them are calling a date. trying on silly little outfits so they can decide which ones they're gonna shoplift. (alec would find this boring normally but finds himself inexplicably compelled by watching aisha put on one million neon bangles + form very insistent opinions about which pair of leggings he wears better.) sharing food court snacks. he can be the blue raspberry slurpee 2 her grape slurpee. alec casually feeding her a fry or smth. sitting squished into the same massage chair together while they try 2 one up each other w/ making fun of the ppl walking by. etc. also need to reiterate that aisha dragging him around by his wrist or alec pushing her somewhere with a hand on her back Is their version of holding hands.
- they canonically shared personal stories and hung out. a lot. entirely offscreen. you can't prove they Weren't laying next 2 each other on the floor sharing a bag of chips while alec casually explained the worst day of his life 2 her. they're sort of far more about the intimacy of someone really Seeing You for the first time than they are about cheesy romance.
anyway my point is if you draw them giving each other flowers or blushing or saying or doing literally anything notably sappy you're doing it wrong but if you draw alec putting an arm over her shoulder + her tiredly leaning on him while they're in the back of a transport van on their way back from doing Crimes or her giving him a too-forceful shitty awkward teenage kiss while he visibly bluescreens and forgets to close his eyes or him falling to the ground clinging to her and wheezing while she cackles because they just pulled off a Sick Prank on brian. then youre doing it right. hope this helps to explain the nature of aishalec

gay people
(not canon btw! none of the ships/labels will be canon :3)
I'm also gonna yap now yipeee
Uhm. Affection!! Wanted to think about how they would express and receive affection. Not only in a romantic context btw, just in general.
Matsu LOVES casual physical affection. He loves hugging people, holding hands with his friends, tackling them, just. Being all over the ones he loves. This also applies to non-physical affection, although a little less. However! He's really not the best when it comes to being on the receiving end of that affection.... Not because he doesn't like it or anything, it's just that his brain short-circuits, and he has no idea how to react. He loves receiving affection from people he trusts and, well, also loves (again, not necessarily romantically). I think the reason for him reacting that way could be that he's only started experiencing this after getting close with everyone in H♡L. Sure, he's been practically best friends with Fumi since ~middle school, but their falling out lasted at least a few years, and in that time Matsu didn't really get all that close with anybody else. Also, he doesn't like being super affectionate with people he isn't close with, or doesn't trust enough, or just isn't comfortable enough.
Toshiro isn't as enthusiastic... but they still like it. They like receiving affection, even if with some complaints (not seriously though) whenever Matsu tackles them. They're a little more reserved, but when he *really* loves someone, he'll stick to them like glue. I think his favorite way to show affection physically is through doing someone's hair. H♡L members often walk around with little braids or some uncharacteristic hairstyles because of that. He isn't very good with words though... but a little better than Matsu, who just. Would like to be able to express his feelings through something more than cutting himself off every 2 seconds because it's absolutely impossible for him to put the vague concept of his emotions into existing words. Toshiro is, indeed, a bit more successful in that, but still prefers quiet physical affection.
Fumi doesn't let herself be very emotionally open and vulnerable. That's what years of repressing and trying to get rid of any possible "weakness" will do. The person she lets to herself the closest is Matsu... she's more used to him and has a giant soft spot, even if she would deny it as much as she can (most of the time). However, Fumi still has ways in which her affection and appreciation towards someone end up being shown. It's pretty casual, and sometimes can seem a little mean, but she's trying her best. They often ruffle Matsu's hair, for example. Though Toshiro gets slightly "harsher" treatment, like very light shoves. Seina manages to escape all of that, though. She's not as close with Fumi as everyone else, but has this effect of calming her down and making her drop the defenses a little. I think over the course of the story Fumi will slowly learn to allow herself to be more vulnerable with people close to her.
Seina. Her affection is the most gentle, I think, but she expresses it more through words and caring for someone, rather than with physical touch. However, since I think I'm kinda focusing on physical affection here, she likes to pet her friends' heads, or dust them off, or just calmly hold their hands or shoulders.
They all also have slightly different ways of expressing affection towards each other that I thought of. Like Matsu tends to tackle Seina less, and more just hug her. With Toshiro he doesn't really hold back, as well as with Fumi. He also likes to try to ruffle Fumi's hair when she does it to him, though... have you seen how short I made him? there's no way that's even remotely easy. Toshiro likes to hug specifically Matsu a lot, but it's more calm than how Matsu himself does it... with Fumi, he often casually puts a hand on her shoulder, which she surprisingly allows. And with Seina, he plays with her hair probably even more than with everybody else's. I think I pretty much described Fumi's ways with everyone..? But something I didn't mention is that she often gives gifts to her friends. Which mostly involves flowers (of clourse)! She's a little embarrassed when doing it most of the time, but it's one of the few visible ways she can allow herself to show her appreciation to someone. Seina likes to do Toshiro's hair back, like he does to everyone, though she isn't really the best at it... they still like it! A lot, actually! She calms Fumi down with surprising ease and likes to allow them to lean onto her and just kinda... hang out like that. With Matsu she gets even more caring and worried than with everyone else, which can look pretty funny.
This might sound strange, seeing as Fumi is clearly the "keeps a tough front and rarely allows herself to show affection" person of the group, but Seina actually has a lot of trouble properly expressing her appreciation, maybe the most out of all of them. She kind of acts almost the same way with everybody, which results in people sometimes thinking she doesn't care enough about them personally. Repressing her own emotions in fear of burdening or upsetting her loved ones with them made it so that she isn't very good at expressing them when she wants to.
I am getting a little off topic? And also tired. Even though I absolutely love rambling about them,,,,, also, I think somewhere later I'll just be dumping all of the lore/details, actually maybe literally everything about Helianthus♡Light! to the side blog, for which!!!!! I still have to draw a few things bc I want it to look cool and pretty,,,,,,
