Hello! I have not read the shadow and home series, only seen the show and read six of crows (very obvious if you see my account) and I really don't get the whole "is the Darkling is evil or not", because I haven't seen arguments from the pro Darkling side and very few from the anti Darkling side... Can you explain it for me?
Hi! Thanks so much for the ask, I can definitely do my best to explain this for you but I am firmly of the anti-darkling belief so I think the best way for me to go about this is to outline common pro-Darkling points and explain why I disagree with them, and suggest that if you'd like more detail into the pro-Darkling arguments that you look through the tag, or through the pro-darklina tag <3
I just wrote a summary of S&S and R&R to the best detail that I could from memory only to remember that the entire plot summaries are available on the Grishaverse wiki (*screams*). But anyway the summaries were very long so I've cut them and if you want to check the plotlines for more detail you can do that on the wiki the summaries look really good (better than mine lol) but if there are any specific points I mention that you want me to expand on I can just let me know in the replies :)
Nb: this entire post will be spoilers for the Grisha trilogy and probably the entire Grishaverse.
Please be aware that I am going to address the backstories & traumatic experiences of several characters but most specifically Alina, Mal, Genya, and Zoya.
So I believe that the main points in the pro-Darkling argument are that he had noble causes, that he did genuinely love Alina, and that his actions are a product of the suffering he'd been through. However what I also see a lot of, though generally I avoid pro-darkling posts because I don't have any interest in starting an argument with anyone (and btw I'm going to tag this as anti-darkling and anti-darklina, which I always do when I'm talking about him so that anyone who doesn't want to see it can filter it out just as I can do with the pro-darkling and pro-darklina tags if I don't want to see them), is criticisms of Mal as the 'incorrect choice' for the final love interest and a 'bad person'.
So going point by point down these as to why I disagree with them:
"The Darkling has noble causes." -> The Darkling claims that his cause is a safer world for Grisha, and this on its surface is absolutely a noble cause. I would never deny that. The Grisha have been marginalised, abused, and oppressed throughout world history, and at 400+ years old in a pre-industrial revolution/early industrial revolution world the Darkling has seen and been subjected to a great deal of this. It is an undeniably noble goal to want to protect his people and to help them rise up. However, the Darkling can only see it come at the cost of mass death not only caused by the Shadow Fold's construction but the centuries of its presence on the continent, mass death caused by the destruction of Novo Kribirsk, direct and indirect murder of thousands of innocent lives, and the abuse of Alina, Genya, Zoya, David, Nikolai, Mal, and not only more characters we know but countless characters who encountered him during his rise, a compulsory draft for his people in the country where they were supposedly safest, brutally attacking his own mother and leaving her blind in the aftermath, and more. Now I'm not going to talk about the compulsory draft too much because I don't actually know if that was the Darkling's invention or not and I absolutely believe that the infrastructure of Ravka was designed to abuse and manipulate Grisha through nationalism (see Nina Zenik), but I think it's so important to note that after the Civil War massive strides forward are made in the treatment of Grisha in Ravka without any kind of destruction on the levels that the Darkling claimed were necessary. Nikolai disestablishes the compulsory draft but this doesn't stop the Second Army from reforming, or from Ravka sending missions to rescue at risk Grisha. The goal of these missions was still to recruit for the Army, but all individuals were given a choice and those that refused were still offered protection or safe passage. It's by no means a perfected system, but it's a great improvement from a draft that brought Zoya in at nine, Genya in at seven, Nina in so young she has no memory of her life before, and so on, and manipulated them their entire lives.
Before I let the manipulation lead me into my next point, I want to add that I also don't entirely trust a statement of the Darkling's causes being noble in the first place. On it's surface, as I said, a safer world for Grisha is an undeniably noble cause noble cause - but turning the abuse their people suffered against otkazats'ya people is not. I believe liberation that requires oppression is not true liberation. We also see that he willingly kills the Grisha teachers from the Little Palace, despite saying to Alina that he doesn't want to waste more Grisha lives, threatens the children from the Little Palace, attacks Genya for betraying him, and causes mass slaughter of anyone, Grisha or otkazats'ya, who sides with Alina. That doesn't sound like making the world safer for his people. It sounds like a power-hungry dictator using a commonly held ideology to manipulate the populous into supporting him.
That doesn't sound like protecting Grisha. It sounds like killing them.
Back to the manipulation.
This manipulation was not from the institution alone; no, it was very much directly from the Darkling. This brings me into point two - "The Darkling genuinely loved Alina." ->
The Darkling manipulated Zoya, who remember effectively grew up with him because she was brought to the Little Palace at nine after escaping her abusive mother's attempt at forcing her into marriage. Zoya was brought to the Little Palace by her aunt, Liliyana Garin. The Darkling made Zoya feel like she had to rely on him, whilst simultaneously telling her that she was special. The famous quote "You and I are going to change the world" was actually said to Zoya long before it was said to Alina, whom the Darkling used the exact same manipulation tactics against, and it was also used later in Rule of Wolves against Yuri, a monk from the Cult of the Starless Saint, who worship he Darkling as a fallen Saint. The way I read it, this is a very clear writing choice to emphasise that the Darkling does not care about any of the people he speaks these words to; this is the manipulation tactic that he knows, that he is used an unknowable number of times, and that he has had lifetimes to perfect and learn how to use it to his gain. He essentially tied Zoya's self-worth to his opinion of her, and she spent her entire life trying to be good enough for him, trying to impress him, trying to prove herself as worthy of his acclaim, of his attention, and arguably of his protection since he was her protector as a child. After escaping her mother and being brought to safety, Zoya grew up believing that she was lucky to be treated the way the Darkling treated her. In the books it's implied they may have had a sexual relationship, and this was confirmed as part of show canon during season one. Lilyana was later indirectly killed by the Darkling when he destroyed Novo Kribirsk by moving the Fold. Sometimes I'm almost glad she can never know what happened to Zoya, because she loved her and she thought she was protecting her and I think that knowing what the Darkling did to the niece she left in his care, believing that she was saving her, may very well have broken her.
When Alina arrived at the Little Palace, the Darkling discarded Zoya like a toy he'd grown bored of. He manipulated Alina using the exact same tactics that he did Zoya, which of course we see a great deal of first hand throughout the trilogy. During the process of this, Zoya suffers greatly from the process of being tossed aside. The Darkling intentionally sets Alina and Zoya against each other from day one, denying them any chance of camaraderie or realising what was being done to them. The way I read this, this was the pitting of women against each other by a misogynist, not only for the misogynist's gain but also because he actively feared the strength that they would have together. I've spoken about this before but yeah that's how I feel about it, we miss out on what could have been a lot more Zoya & Alina power and just general content because the Darkling purposefully turns them against each other. Alina starts experiencing everything that Zoya did - the Darkling makes her feel important or special on his terms, he makes her want his attention, he makes her feel like her importance is reliant on him, he makes her believe that she is incapable alone and needs him at her side, etc - and since this is all Zoya has known since childhood she doesn't know how to identify the similarities in his treatment of them as abuse but instead believes that he has lost interest in her in favour of Alina because she is more special, she is more important, she is more precious. Zoya has spent her entire life trying to be exactly what the Darkling wanted, and the way he casts her aside is so deeply damaging to Zoya because all those things he did, making her think that she was only special or important or worthy for as long as he said so? She believed them. Her self worth was so utterly destroyed by Alina's mere existence that without understanding it was the Darkling who had done that to her, not Alina, of course she hated her. The two of them overcoming this distance and developing their relationship is probably one of my favourite subplots
David and Genya both suffer at the hands of the Darkling's manipulation as well, though in different ways - and directly I want to talk about Genya but it is still more than worth acknowledging David as well. Genya was found by testers at 7 and presented to the Queen by the Darkling as a gift when she was 11. So super crazy take, I know, but I think there are ways of training someone to be a spy without giving them away into slavery. The Darkling placed Genya in the path of abuse from both the Queen and the King, and it is strongly implied that she told him she was being raped and physically abused and that he manipulated her into believing that her pain was worth something because she was his soldier. Even if she didn't directly tell him, the sexual abuse that the King committed against Genya is not a secret in either of the palaces, and is in fact part of the reason that the Queen physically abuses Genya because she takes out the anger she can't voice against the King on her instead, and the Darkling never did anything to protect her. Even when she tells Alina everything that happened to her, she says that she is his soldier and that this was her role. And after everything that she did for him, for giving her entire life up and enduring years of abuse, the Darkling turns on Genya the moment that she expresses care towards Alina. Genya was simultaneously pulled in two directions: her beauty was what, she believed, caused the King to attack her and subsequently the cause of her pain, but it was also a product of her Tailoring and without it she never would have been worth the Darkling's time. Being so thoroughly manipulated by him, she therefore believed that he beauty was what gave her worth. The Darkling knew exactly what he was doing in taking that away from her, not only the physical pain he caused her, not only the loss of her eye, but the subsequent inability to Tailor her scars and be who she saw herself as before. Genya's scars in the books are described to extend across her entire face and down her neck, down her arms, and along her hands, prompting Jesper in Crooked Kingdom to wonder "what manner of weapon" would be capable of causing them.
"The Darkling is a product of pain and abuse that he suffered throughout his life" -> yeah, absolutely. He wasn't born to be evil and I really enjoyed learning more about his childhood in the prequel graphic novel. But I don't think that excuses mass murder, or abuse, or any of his other actions
"Mal was not Alina's ideal love interest and came across as a bad person" ->
Personally I don't think Mal is a bad person, I think that he made mistakes during the trilogy but that ultimately he begins this story as a seventeen year old child solider; he is afraid for his own life and the lives of his friends, children and young adults make mistakes that older people are more aware of/in tune to or less likely to make, and the world he understood fell from his grip very, very rapidly.
I also know that a lot of people don't like Alina and Mal's ending, particularly with Alina losing her powers. (Brief explanation: Alina fakes her death and they tailor one of the fallen soldiers, Ruby, to look like her so that she and the Darkling can be burned together. Alina no longer has sun powers and Mal is no longer an expert tracker. Together they vanish to live alone in happy obscurity and run an orphanage. One day, the staff of the orphanage see a group of Grisha, including a beautiful Suli Squaller and a Corporalnik missing an eye, bring the woman who runs the place a blue kefta embroidered in gold and see that it makes her cry. They wonder if perhaps she knew a Grisha who died and has been given their kefta in commoration, but that's because they haven't seen the note inside that says "You will always be one of us" (This would be around where I start sobbing) ) Personally I think that this is a brilliant ending, with tragedy and bittersweet beauty sewn right through it. There are many implications through the trilogy that as Alina becomes more powerful she feels the pull and high that power can bring her as dangerously alluring. As she correctly identifies when she fakes her death, the people would have eventually turned on her as a heretic just as they did the Darkling. What I don't think she verbally acknowledged but that I saw as implicit in the text, was that she, like anyone may have done with access to such immense power and such a long lifespan, had the potential to become deserving of that label if she continued down the path. Alina giving up her power shows a distinct and beautiful difference between herself and the Darkling: she knew when to stop.
And she loved Mal. She loved him, and he loved her. So freaking much. Everything Mal does, every single decision he makes - even when they aren't all that smart - is born out of love for Alina. And they are both so very young.
Okay so I think that is pretty much everything I have to say off the top of my head, I hope that this was helpful! I feel like maybe a more nuanced/evenly-weighted explanation was what you were looking for and I'm sorry if this was too heavily weighted against, but people posting in the pro darkling tag will absolutely be able to explain their own arguments better than I can and I don't think I would be able to present them accurately to their opinions because they'd be affected by my own in my writing.
And, again, I am really not looking to start any kind of argument with anyone over this, I'm just explaining my reasons for where I fall and if anyone reading this disagrees then please remember that my opinions don't discredit your own, they are yours and mine are mine :) <33

"I didn’t know whether to laugh or scream."
Siege and Storm- Chapter 15
Oh nein! Mal has issues! With consequences of his actions he should be grateful for, and his girl not sharing every waking thought with him, when her worst worries spring from his most hated topics- the Darkling and her role in politics.
And Alina once again feels responsible for his feelings.
Yeah, this would have a bit more weight, if Alina didn't do it only for appearances' sake. Or if she granted the position due to merit, not random pick of what she views as the lowest low. Or if she didn't continue speaking as if she were a narrator of wildlife documentary, describing a new species of animal that just appeared.
Not necessarily, but it's one of Alina's less far-fetched deductions.
Aleksander could've been aware of David's fascination with Morozova's work. He could've picked the most skilled in bonework or the one most experienced in forging amplifiers- they're supposed to be rare, so not many Fabricators will have that.
*mumbles* And somehow we're to believe this pragmatic man chose to follow Alina, because... ? She's the good one, or whatever?!
*chants* Double agent Kaminsky, double agent Kaminsky!
Alina: Why would you want to kill this man! How horrible! At least question him first!
She would make a delightful morally flexible character, if she were acknowledged as such, and embracing that quality.
Says who? Zoya?
He KeEpS mE So BuSy!
Saints, Alina, you can't believe everything people say about themselves!
Alina: I'm not sure my three months of training are enough, but I can do like two things with my powers, so let's focus on increasing them further AND on the mythical forbidden art that created my goal no. 1 in the first place. I bet nothing can go wrong...
Only signing? Not reading to get into picture? And who prepares them?!
Bureaucracy, baby!
Welcome to responsibility!
I would sympathize with Alina much more, if she showed genuine interest in those she doesn't know. If her motivation weren't merely "Do the opposite of (what I think) the Darkling did". I she truly believed in her own philosophy.
Shocking!
People forced to sit next to half-strangers they're not used to interact with, create unpleasant atmosphere!
My work experience considered- you're lucky there's no visible enmity- you could've made the wrong people sit next to each other and tableware could've ended up in wrong bodyparts.
Also: How is Nadia sitting next to Marie? I thought breaking up already existing friend groups was a point of this whole exercise.
They're not gifts, Nikolai. They're just your father's property, but let's remember the Darkling didn't wait for the Queen to request a specific one's service, and turned it into a gesture of his own thoughtfulness. Fuck his strategems!
Alina's misplaced sensibilities are incredibly frustrating.
She wants to lead Second Army, but not order them, not assign them tasks directly, because that would somehow make her a bad person, instead of efficient leader.
What if no one will volunteer? What if weak, incompetent Squallers will? You don't look at special assignment and think- Yeah, whoever wants to do it... You PICK the most capable person with both sufficient skills AND suitable personality.
Awwww!
Poor granny deserves an Oscar!

Aleksander and his followers have set up a base in a house of an aristocrat family. Yes, he has survived. But paid a price for it. He created creatures of shadows with merzost, but because of that his health is falling. He's coughing, often with black substance, has headaches and has scars on his face that can't be healed. His condition deeply worries him. But something troubles him even more.
One day another group of recruits arrives. Aleksander immediately goes to greet them and looks at their faces. He's happy to see David and tells him that. Then, he returns to looking around. However, he doesn't see what he wants.
'Was [Y/N] with you?' he asks David, who's retreating with Genya. They stop. The Durast shakes his head with sorrow.
'I haven't seen her since the day we left the Little Palace after…' he doesn't finish. But Aleksander knows what he wanted to say. He nods. He walks to Fruzsi, another Tidemaker.
'Ask everyone who has arrived whether they have seen [Y/N] [L/N] during the last weeks,' he orders her. Fruzsi is surprised by this, but nods. She comes to his room an hour later.
'And?' he asks, expectant, hoping.
'No one has seen her,' Fruzsi answers. Aleksander's shoulders slump. He sighs, and runs a hand through his face.
'Tell the search parties to look specifically for her,' he orders. 'I want her found. As soon as possible.'
'I know she's close to you,' Fruzsi says, frowning. 'But shouldn't we focus on-'
'She's not close to me,' Aleksander interrupts her. 'She's everything to me.'
Fruzsi is surprised, guessing what he means. He turns away from her.
'With all due respect, sir…' she says slowly, '… why her?'
Aleksander turns to her. There's something in his eyes Fruzsi has never seen.
'Why anyone else when she exists?' he asks. The Tidemaker lingers only for a moment longer. But her place is quickly taken by someone else…
'Fedyor!' Aleksander says, happy and relieved. The Heartrender smiles and bows his head to his general. Kirigan walks to him and the two shake hands. The Darkling notices the tiredness and sadness in his friend's eyes.
'Ivan…' he says, his smile falling.
'Is alive,' Fedyor says. 'That's why it took me so long to get here. He's wounded and scarred. Healers are putting him back together at the moment.'
'I'm glad to hear it,' Aleksander says. 'He… he did well in the Fold.'
Fedyor nods. He bites his lip, hesitating.
'Any news of [Y/N]?' he asks. Sorrow fills Kirigan's eyes. He shakes his head.
'Not yet,' he answers and sighs heavily. He walks to his armchair and falls on it. He runs a hand through his face.
'I need her, Fedyor,' he says. 'Every time I turn my face, I expect to find her there. And I find nothing. It physically hurts. I've never known I'd meet a girl like her.'
'[Y/N] is one of a kind,' Fedyor agrees. Aleksander shakes his head.
'It's more than that,' he says and smiles softly. 'When I told her about my past, what I did, what I fear… she looked my demons in the eye and… smiled. She fell for the very thing I thought she'd fear.'
'I haven't met a kinder heart,' Fedyor says with a smile.
'Kind,' Aleksander says. 'Compassionate. Understanding. Gentle. That's who she is. That's why I fell for her. And I failed her. When she needed me the most, when they were throwing Grisha out of the Little Palace, I wasn't there. I even insisted she stayed there. She should have gone with you, like she wanted. But now she may be dead. And it's my fault.'
'She's not dead,' Fedyor says strongly. Kirigan looks at him with doubt.
'How can you be so sure?' he asks.
'Everyone knows she's important to you,' Fedyor answers. 'I think that if they had managed to kill her, they would have made every Grisha aware of it.'
He has a point, Aleksander must admit it. Hope reignites with him once more. Fedyor smiles.
'Fear not, General,' he says. 'She might look like a fragile flower, but her stem is made of steel.'
Aleksander can't help but smile. He nods. Fedyor's eyes suddenly light up.
'What about the gift you gave her for her last birthday?' he asks. Aleksander instinctively touches a ring on his finger. He sighs deeply.
'The problem is, I gave it to her so she would call on me if she needed help,' he says. 'Until she says my name while touching the necklace, I can't use my matching ring to track her. Believe me I… tried.'
'Well, we have David now,' Fedyor says. 'Maybe he could think of something.'
'He'd need something that belongs to her,' Aleksander explains, remembering how the Durast made the ring and necklace.
'And we don't have anything,' Fedyor sighs. Kirigan shakes his head.
'We will get her back, General,' the Heartrender assures him.
'I know,' Aleksander says and a look in his eyes darkens. 'I promised her. That the world can't keep us apart. And that there's nothing I wouldn't do to keep her by my side. I fully intent to keep that promise, Fedyor. No matter what.'
*
In the meantime, Alina and Mal have teamed up with a privateer, who's just turned out to be Prince Nikolai Lantsov. Together, they hunted the Sea Whip for Alina. She now has two amplifiers. She tried to destroy the Fold, but failed. After that, they head for the Spinning Wheel, a place where apparently Grisha have found a safe heaven – the Spinning Wheel. There, Alina reunites with Nadia… and Zoya. But the conversation with Zoya goes well, to Alina's surprise. They are now allies. After they walk their ways, Nadia joins Alina's side, uncertain.
'Someone else is in here you might be interested in,' she says.
'Who?' Alina asks, frowning. Nadia simply grabs her arm and drags her somewhere. A few corridors later the Sun Summoner sees a familiar back.
'[Y/N]!' she exclaims happily and runs forward, freeing herself of Nadia's hold. You turn around, surprised. You huff, when Alina falls into your arms. You hug her back slowly.
'Saints, I'm so glad you're okay!' she says, pulling away. You force a smile.
'Thank you,' you say. 'I'm happy you're alive as well. After I heard what had happened in the Fold…'
'I made it,' Alina says, smiling, and looks over your shoulder. 'Thanks to Mal.'
You turn your head and see a young man, looking both familiar and unfamiliar. He notices you and his frown tells you he has the same situation with you.
'Mal, look who's here!' Alina calls him, waving at him with enthusiasm. The man joins you, looking at you with interest.
'I hope you remember our dear friend from Keremzin, [Y/N] [L/N],' Alina says, looking between you two. Mal's eyes spark with recognition. He smiles broadly.
'How could I not?' he says and chuckles. 'You almost cracked my skull open once!'
'You definitely deserved it!' you laugh and go in for a hug. You hold each other tightly, then pull away. In a moment Mal's brows cease with worry.
'No offense, but you look awful,' he says. You smile wryly. You're well aware of the dark circles under your eyes, puffy eyes, pale face and so on.
'Well, I sleep with my one eye open,' you say. 'I'm not exactly welcome here.'
'Why?' Alina asks, frowning. You give her a look.
'I was one of Kirigan's most loyal Grisha,' you explain. 'No one here trusts me.'
'But you didn't know what he's planning,' Alina says vehemently. The corners of your lips lift slightly.
'How can you be so sure?' you ask.
'Yes, how can we?' a voice asks. You turn your head and see a young man in a uniform. You bow your head.
'Moi tsarevich,' you greet Nikolai. He stops by Alina and Mal's side.
'So?' he asks, eyeing you. 'How can we be sure we can trust you?'
'Nikolai!' Alina scolds him. You look tsarevich in the eyes.
'I didn't know Kirigan had planned to expand the Fold,' you declare. 'In fact, we haven't been close for a long time.'
'Why?' Nikolai asks, frowning. You smile wryly at him.
'I've been asking myself this question for months,' you answer. Nikolai eyes you again.
'I trust [Y/N],' Alina says strongly. Nikolai looks at her and they exchange a look. Finally, he nods and smiles at you.
'Alina's friends are mine friends,' he says and takes your hand in his, then kisses it. 'Pleasure to meet you, Miss [L/N]. And I'm sorry for the suspicion.'
'Charmed,' you say, smiling slightly. 'And it's perfectly alright. I understand.'
'Come, we have a lot to catch up,' Alina says, taking your arm and you start walking. Soon enough she tells you what happened to her. She tells you how Baghra warned her about Aleksander. How she escaped. How she met with Mal. How they found the Stag. But then Kirigan found them. He killed the Stag and joined Alina with its bones. He tried to harness her powers for himself. He used them to expand the Fold. But there Mal and three rouges from Ketterdam saved her. She and Mal escaped to Novyi Zem. There they met Nikolai.
'And that's about it,' Alina finishes her story a moment later.
'You've certainly been busy,' you comment. Your friend sighs. There's sadness in her eyes.
'I still can't believe I let him fooled me,' she says. 'I… I honestly thought we share some sort of connection, you know?'
'Yeah,' you answer quietly, now sad as well. But Alina quickly becomes angry.
'I still can't believe how cruel he really was,' she says with venom. 'All those people he murdered… because he wanted more power. How could someone be so cold-hearted?'
'Behind every cold-hearted person there is a kind heart which has been treated with coldness for a while,' you say quietly. Alina looks at you with surprise. But you don't say anything more.
'What about you?' your friend asks. 'How did you escape from the Little Palace?'
'I didn't,' you answer after a moment. Alina frowns at you. She looks you up and down, no doubt wondering how you can be here if you hadn't escaped from the Little Palace. You avoid her eyes.
'When the First Army raided the Little Palace, I focused on getting everyone else out,' you start. 'Especially the children. So, when I was about to evacuate myself… it was too late. I was caught.'
'[Y/N]…' Alina says, horrified. You force a smile and shake your head.
'It wasn't really for a long time,' you say. 'I escaped.'
'How?' Alina asks. You're silent for a moment. You try not to think about the time you were a captive. About what they did to you…
Darkling's whore… Filthy witch… Stupid serving girl…
'They were careless,' you answer. 'Thought they broke me. I used it against them. Then I found out about this place. Others weren't exactly thrilled to see me but they took me in. I guess my sorry state made them pity me.'
'[Y/N]… what had they done to you so they thought they broke you?' Alina asks with worry.
'Hurt me,' you answer after a moment and force a smile at her. 'You should rest. You've had a tiring journey.'
'But-' Alina starts, frowning.
'I'll see you later,' you say, hug her briefly, then walk away. Your heart is hammering in your chest. You don't look back. You don't think about what you told Alina. You don't think about it so much, you bump into someone.
'Sorry!' you apologise. The person turns out to be Zoya. She looks you over.
'How are you looking worse and worse every day?' she asks. You smile wryly.
'It's my hidden talent,' you answer and attempt to walk past her. But she grabs your arm. You look up at her. There's seriousness in her eyes.
'You're not alone,' she says, confusing you. 'Kirigan had us all fooled. I know it's hard for you, you were his personal servant and then his trusted Grisha. I know you must have certain attachment to him but… you have to let it go. He murdered innocents. And would do it again.'
'You… "Attachment"?' you repeat with disbelief. 'Zoya, I… He was the first person who saw I'm more than just a plain serving girl. Every time I struggled, he was there to help me. He saved me every time I was in danger. Do you remember Tsybeia? Even before it turned out I'm a Grisha he was always kind to me and protected me. And now… everyone tells me what he did, who he is. But I can't just forget about all the good stuff he did.'
Zoya looks at you. Suddenly, her eyes go wide. You stiffen. You know she realised your secret.
'And you love him,' she guesses and crosses her arms. 'Tell me, if he handed you a bloodied hand, would you take it, only because it was his?'
You stare at her. Tears well up in your eyes. You smile sadly, a bit brokenly.
'I honestly have no idea, Zoya,' you whisper and turn. You walk away, trying to blink away the tears. And you definitely don't think how much you miss Aleksander. Nor how much you wish he was alive.
*
The night falls. It is a relief to you, because you finally are away from the judging eyes, hurtful whispers. But the sleep never comes easily. Your thoughts are always a mess. Today as well.
You lay down in bed and try very hard to fall asleep. Your thoughts drift to everything that happened that day. You sigh and hesitantly grab the necklace on your neck. Pain clenches your heart.
Aleksander…
Suddenly you find yourself in Kirigan's chambers in the Little Palace. Everything is just like you remember. You look down at yourself and see the clothes you were wearing as Aleksander's personal servant.
'I did miss the sight of that band on your arm,' you hear. Your heart stops. Oh, how you longed to hear that voice. You turn around and see Aleksander leaning on his table. He looks just like he did when you last saw him.
'Yet I still preferred to see you in your kefta,' he says, slowly walking towards you. 'It suited you. It was meant to be yours.'
'Sometimes I wish I've never discovered my powers,' you admit. 'Then I would just admire you from afar. I wouldn't feel this pain now.'
'Do you really?" Aleksander asks. You think for a moment. You smile sadly and shake your head.
'Not really, no,' you answer. 'Because it was worth it. Being with you was the happiest time of my life. Even though you insisted on hiding it from everyone.'
Aleksander stops in front of you. He hands his head.
'Will you ever find it in your heart to forgive me?' he asks. You're quiet for a moment.
'I don't know,' you answer honestly. Aleksander nods, understanding. He looks up and reaches toward your face, but hesitates. His hand hangs in the air.
'I hate seeing you sad,' he says.
'Then come back to me,' you say, tears filling your eyes. 'I just want to see you. Hold you. Hug you. Touch you. Kiss you. Cuddle with you. Love you. Then I'll stop being sad.'
Aleksander looks at you with pain. He hates to see you like this.
'I want this too, milaya,' he says. 'So much.'
'I waited for you,' you say. 'Like I promised I would. Part of me still does. Even though it's impossible for you to return to me.'
'[Y/N]…' Aleksander whispers. He slowly reaches out to you again. When you don't flinch away, he cups your cheek. The moment he does, your clothes change into your kefta from the winter fete. He smiles softly.
'I didn't even tell you that you looked magnificent that night,' he says quietly. 'Beautiful. And your performance… You were extraordinary.'
You smile. You waited so long to hear those words. You lean into his touch.
'It's hard without you,' you say.
'I know the feeling,' Aleksander says quietly. You touch his hand that is on your cheek. You turn your head and kiss it.
'Everyone is sad to be gone from the Little Palace,' you say. 'They say their lost their home. But I lost mine before the First Army attacked us.'
'Because I was your home,' Aleksander says quietly. You nod. Kirigan presses his forehead to yours. He closes his eyes.
'I wish I was kissing you instead of missing you,' he whispers, his voice shaking from pain. You close your eyes, fighting with tears. You fail, obviously. You can feel them falling down your cheeks.
'Did you think of me?' you dare to ask. 'When you were in the Fold?'
'Yes,' Aleksander answers, clenching his jaw. 'I wanted you to be by my side. And then I wanted to come back to you.'
'Why didn't you tell me?' you ask. 'About your plans about Alina and the Fold? The real ones.'
'Because you have a compassionate heart,' Aleksander answers after a moment. 'You'd disagree with my plan. Maybe leave me.'
'You don't know that,' you say, shaking your head.
'Wouldn't you?' Aleksander challenges you. You're silent.
'I don't know what would I do,' you say and look him in the eyes. 'You robbed me of that choice.'
Kirigan looks down. Maybe he's actually ashamed a bit.
'But I know I wouldn't leave you,' you add. Aleksander's head shoots up. You cup his face.
'I promised you to be with you for better and for worse,' you say. 'No matter what would happen, I would be with you.'
'And then maybe you would die in the Fold,' Aleksander says flatly. 'This one time I wouldn't have been able to save you.'
'Maybe I would have saved myself,' you suggest with a small smile. Kirigan sighs and shakes his head.
'Sometimes I really can't with you,' he says. You grin at him. But then your smile falls.
'Kiss me?' you plead. You don't have to ask twice. Aleksander cups your face and kisses you.
'We shall be together again, my darling, I promise,' he whispers.
'I want this more than anything,' you whisper back. 'So much.'
'Be patient, [Y/N],' Aleksander pleads. 'For me. Please.'
'I'm waiting,' you whisper. 'I'll be always waiting for you.'
Kirigan opens his eyes. He's met with the wall of his room in the residence. He sighs heavily and sits up. His finger caresses the ring on his finger. Then, he lifts it to his lips.
'Please, [Y/N],' he whispers. 'Call for me. Call for me and I'll come for you. I swear. I will always come for you.'
*
You, Tamar (a Heartrender) and Nadia watch Alina training her new abilities. She thrusts light at her target… but even though it's impressive, it doesn't even reach it.
'Absolute rubbish,' she grunts. Nadia scoffs and gives Tamar a look.
'It's the second amplifier,' the Heartrender explains. She walks to pick up a mannequin. You three follow her.
'With the Stag, summoning came like breath,' Alina says. 'This is like… reining chaos. Crossing the Fold was a disaster.'
'Hey, we'll get you there,' Nadia comforts her. 'If it helps, I could hit you with a switch and call you "stupid girl".'
'It may come to that,' Alina sighs. 'How is it I'm overwhelmed by the second amplifier and at the same time feeling the lack of a third?'
'Well, for now, let's focus on what we can fix,' Nadia says.
'Your aim, for starters,' you suggest. Alina gives you a look and scoffs. You all go back.
'As leader of the Second Army, I need more,' she says. Ah, yes. You had a dinner with the Lantsov family (you were so not happy they've arrived). During that Nikolai announced he and Alina are engaged (yeah, because you didn't see how she and Mal look at each other) and that from now on she's the leader of the Second Army. Not everyone was happy about it (ekhm, Zoya).
'I need to learn the Cut,' Alina says, turning to you. You stiffen.
'That was Kirigan's way, to lead with fear,' Nadia protests. 'You can lead with your heart. The Second Army will be better for it.'
'You make a good point,' Tamar agrees. 'But I wouldn't completely reject fear. Can't tell you how many have taken one look at my girls and… reconsidered. I don't know how the Cut works, that's a top-shelf Etherialki move, but I do know how to direct power. It's all about intention. I like to picture the face of the person I want to crush. Try it.'
Alina positions herself and exhales. She closes her eyes. Soon light surrounds her. A moment later she grunts angrily, waves her hands and light shots forward. You all look at the effect with wide eyes.
'Well, it's not the Cut, but… it's effective,' Tamar laughs. Nadia suddenly straightens up.
'Wait a moment,' she says. 'We do have here someone who's managed the Cut.'
She and Alina look at you. Tamar looks at you, impressed. You gulp.
'Once,' you say. 'I did it once. And I have no idea how. I… didn't exactly plan it.'
'Well, what did you think about then?' Tamar asks and you stiffen. 'What did you feel?'
You see in your mind Aleksander and Alina talking together, laughing. You remember the pain and hurt you felt. You were so overwhelmed you just had to let it go. And slashed the dummy.
'Anger,' you finally answer. 'I felt anger. The kind that was killing me.'
Before anyone can ask you more, you hear footsteps. You turn and see Adrik, Nadia's brother.
'I know, not to be disturbed, but they need you in the war room,' he says to Alina. She nods and looks at others. Tamar and Nadia turn and start walking. Alina grabs her jacket and follows them. But then she notices you're not following.
'[Y/N]?' she asks. You shake your head.
'My presence will not be welcomed there,' you say and smile. 'Go without me.'
Alina hesitates, but eventually nods and leaves. Adrik is behind her. You turn to look at the dummy the Sun Summoner hit. It has a hole coming from the arm to the stomach. Almost like the Cut.
You leave a few minutes later. You take a few turns, heading toward your room, when…
'David,' you say, surprised. David with his hands spread is being led by Tolya (a Heartrender and Tamar's twin) somewhere. They stop, hearing your voice. The Durast's eyes go wide.
'[Y/N],' he says and goes pale. 'Oh, Saints, you're here…'
'Why are you…?' you start but then remember. David was the one who made the collar for Alina. They don't trust him here.
'Come,' Tolya says and continues to take David away. You're left there, stunned and shocked. You can't believe your dear friend is here. And that he is a prisoner, while you walk free…
Later you come across Alina on the corridor. She smiles at you. You look at her, troubled.
'I need to ask you a favour,' you say.
'Anything,' Alina says at once. You gulp.
'I need to see David,' you say. Alina blinks.
'And you need me for…?' she asks. You sigh.
'For getting through the door,' you say. 'Alina, just because you trust me, doesn't mean others do. Please. I need to know if he's okay.'
Alina nods and walks with you to Nikolai. The prince isn't happy but he grants you your request. A moment later you enter David's cell. Alone.
'[Y/N],' he says, straightening up at the sight of you. You smile.
'How are you, David?' you ask.
'I'm… fine, thank you,' he answers. You frown. He's terribly stiff.
'And not exactly thrilled to see me,' you point out. David sighs.
'Forgive me,' he asks. 'Of course, I'm happy to see you. But if he finds out you're here…'
'Who?' you ask, blinking. David stares at you. He stares at you with disbelief, when he sees you're not fooling around.
'You… you don't know?' he asks.
'About?' you ask, confused. David shifts, uncomfortable. He doesn't know if he should say it. But you won't let it go, he just knows it.
'Kirigan is alive,' he finally says quietly. You stumble back and hit a table with your back. You stare at David, shocked.
'No,' you say, your lip trembling. 'You're lying. He can't be.'
'I would never lie to you about this,' David says softly. You stare at him. And see no deception in his eyes. He's telling the truth.
You bring hands to your mouth and let out a sob. You close your eyes and cry. You cry for the first time since the raid. These are tears of anger, sadness, pain, sorrow… and joy.
'How?' you whisper, looking at David again. 'How did he survive?'
'He created something in the Fold,' he answers, wincing. 'Creatures made of shadow. I guess they helped him. But he… he paid a big price for it.'
'What price?' you demand.
'He's troubled by coughs, headaches, pain,' David answers. 'I… I fear only merzost could cure him.'
Your heart aches. You don't know how you feel about all that.
'[Y/N]… that necklace I gave you… where is it?' David asks. Your heart speeds up.
'I don't know,' you lie. 'I lost it when the Little Palace was attacked.'
'Are you sure?' David asks. 'Because if even by accident you call him… he will come here at once for you.'
'Me?' you ask, raising your eyebrows. The Durast looks at you. He hesitates again.
'The priority for him and his Grisha is finding you,' he finally says. 'He… Every day with no news about you is making him more agitated. He insists that he needs you by his side. He more or less admitted that there was something going on between you two.'
You're quiet. You shake your head.
'I'm not the one he needs,' you deny and leave. You stop a few turns later. Your hand reaches to the hidden necklace under your kefta. You stop your hand mid-air. You shake your head and resume walking. You must let go of Aleksander. For your sake. And for others'.

paper rings- weddings!! give me a character. a rough word count (10k is the most I’m willing to write, but if you want the fic to be a longer one, specifics are heavily recommended) and where you would want to get married if you were to get married! You can also tell me if you want it to be next level angst or to have the fluff scale turned up to eleven. Provide whatever specifics you want, and along with the fic, you’ll get a moodboard! You can mention if you want the moodboard to replace whatever gif I use as a fic header, but if you want it at the bottom of the fic and for me to include the gif anyway, just let me know!
okayyyy nikolai lantsov andd 1-2k? i've always dreamed of having a forest fairytale type wedding. like the fairy lights, and the green and borwn color schemes. and very intimate, only closeee friends and family (which is still a lot of family on my side but shhhh) fluff scale turned up to 11 plsss! the moodboard, i'm fine either way whatever is easiest<3
Our Forever/Our Eternity- Nikolai Lantsov x fem! reader
Okay, hi! I am so sorry that this coming out so late--I’d started second semester when I went to look at my inbox and having to do assignments on the daily is taking me closer and closer to academic burn out one step at a time. This is coming out on valentines though, so yay! I hope you like this one. The moodboard also came out in the form of a collage, which again, I hope is cool! I made it while tired out of my mind last night and a collage is what my tiredbrain was able to manage at that point lol.
fic type- fluff.
Warnings- mentions of the consumption of alcohol (wine and champagne, and vodka/kvas)
You and Nikolai had been dating since you were sixteen, having met by pure happenstance whilst you both worked in the First Army. You were at his side as his partner when he’d met Alina, fought with him as his partner and his confidante in the Ravkan Civil war.
When he’d proposed at the age of twenty-three, just at the beginning of his kingship, you were overjoyed, and so, it seemed, was he.
The next year and a half were spent with wedding preparations at the forefront of nearly everyones focuses, though especially Genyas, yours, and Nikolais.
A fairytale esque wedding was the theme you’d agreed upon, and it was just to your luck that a decent clearing with a couple of large trees was amongst the Little Palaces acreage.
Genya had said that it was to be the perfect spot for a wedding, and a year and a half later, as you listened to Alina and Zoyas conversation and Genya tailored a bit of powder onto your eyes to give them a pop of color, you had to agree.
You’d decorated it with a few good tables, chairs painted a deep brown the color of wood, the tablecloths a darker version of leafy green. The centerpieces had been your favorite flowers, encased in small glass display containers that would’ve been used for something like a cupcake display in a bakery, and the tree under which you were going to get married had been laid with lights, making it look like the branches were dripping in stars.
You’d done your wedding a bit differently to the societal expectations placed onto Nikolais shoulders. It wasn’t public, it wasn’t to occur in the Little Palace and there were no journalists, no reporters or anyone who’s only purpose of attending would be to get the scoop on the happenings of that day.
You’d only invited the people who’d mattered to you both, those whom you considered family. Tolya, Mal and David were Nikolais groomsmen. Genya, Tamar, Nadia, Alina and Zoya were your bridesmaids.
Alina and Mal had come along, though Alina had been wearing a wig so that nobody looked at her and immediately knew that she’d been the sun saint, the one who’d been martyred three years before.
Alina laughed as a breeze picked up and ruined some of the work that Genya had done with your hair, meeting your gaze with a grin.
“Early summer is a wonderful time of year, isn’t it?” You asked, laugh befalling your lips as Genya gave an exasperated sigh. “There’s a breeze, yeah, but at least it’s warm.”
“Nikolai is just going to faint when he sees you,” Nadia said with a grin. “Oh, the king will faint indeed.”
“Tolya will have to catch him,” Tamar agreed, laugh coming up as she took a sip of her champagne. “It’ll be quite the glorious thing, and no reporters here to tell the tale means that our beloved king and his precious ego will be saved from embarrassment.”
“He’ll do more than faint,” Zoya said. “He’s never cried a day in his life, I’m sure, but he will. He’ll be crying tears of joy. Men are astonished by beauty, and you look ravishing, so it’s practically par for the course.”
You took a sip of your champagne as Genya announced that she was done with your hair, peeking out from behind the tree that you’d stood behind, one far enough away from guests and Nikolai to avoid being heard or seen.
“The king has descended down the aisle,” she said. “Oh, he is going to lose it. I’m so excited!”
You finished off your champagne as Genya and David walked down the aisle, followed by Zoya with Tolya, Alina and Mal, Tamar and Nadia together.
You watched, head ducked out from the spot where you stood, as David whispered something to Nikolai and his eyes promptly closed, anticipatory grin spreading across his face. You scoffed, grin coming to yours as well.
Of course David had listened to Genyas suggestion that he ask Nikolai to close his eyes so as to not see you until you’d walked down the aisle. Photographers were around, and she probably thought it would make for an interesting set of photos. David, as her husband, would’ve agreed, as would you have, as you knew she was probably right.
Your father walked you down the aisle, and when you reached out, resting either of your arms on Nikolais shoulders and allowing your hands to entwine themselves behind his neck, his eyes opened.
He looked shocked in one moment, mesmerized in the next.
“You look--” Nikolai began, cutting himself off. He laughed after a moment. “It seems I am unable to find the words. You look indescribably beautiful.”
You grinned. “You clean up nicely, Mr. Lantsov.”
“The same can be said of you, soon to be Mrs.”
You grinned, rolled your eyes, as the officiant began.
“We are gathered here today for the union of his majesty the king, Nikolai Lantsov, and her majesty the Queen, Y/N L/N,” you’d gotten that part sorted in the weeks prior. You’d been declared queen before the wedding at a small coronation that the public was only made aware of in the days after it’d occurred, so as to pretty much just get the process out of the way.
“It is my belief that the couple has written their own vows?” You both glanced at the officiant, giving him a slight nod. “Well then, King Nikolai, I’ll allow you to read yours first.”
Nikolai shot you a smirk, and you couldn’t help but roll your eyes at him lovingly. He’d always been the flirtatious type, and you considered it luck that those flirts had always seemed to be tossed in your direction.
Nikolai wasn’t just a flirt, though. He was a caring, compassionate, smart and wonderful guy. He was someone you’d met while serving your time in the First Army, someone who you’d seen act in the bravest manner and only in the interest of saving the lives of those around him. He’d managed to sweep you off your feet somewhere in all of the noise, and when he became Sturmhond, you joined him once you’d convinced your commander to release you on honorable discharge so that you could.
As you stood in front of him, arms around his shoulders, you found that you didn’t regret it. Not a minute.
“I have loved you since we worked in the infantry department together,” Nikolai said. “I fell in love with you whilst we were in the ranks of the First Army, and, eight years after I joined up, I can say that I have not felt regret over it for a moment. I love you more than words can express, really, and I’m looking forward to proving it to you with my actions. I cannot wait to get to wake up next to you everyday for the rest of my life.”
He paused, closing his eyes for a moment, and you realized that Zoya may have been right. Nikolai may actually have started crying, or have gotten closer to it.
“Forever has always felt like such a long time,” Nikolai continued. “It still does, usually, but it’s time that I get to spend with you at my side, so I can’t wait for our forever to start.”
The officiant grinned. “Y/N, you may read your vows in response.”
“I love you,” you began. “I used to think that I would never get so lucky as I have. I was sent into the First Army, and as most do, I figured I was doomed. I’m delighted that I wasn’t, and though the First Army, the mandatory service, is not something that I look back on fondly, I’m glad I met you from it. I’m glad that I’ve spent almost a decade at your side, and I’m looking forward to all the decades to come.”
“I’m looking forward to coffee on Sundays, to watching the sun go down and drinking kvas as we talk about how lucky we both feel, and I am really excited that I get to be married to you for our eternity. I have loved you as long as I have known you, and I am looking forward to getting to spend the rest of my days loving you even still.”
The rings were brought out, and you noticed a tear slip down Nikolais cheek as he slipped the ring onto your finger. You slipped his ring onto his, wiped the tear away and gave him a grin as you registered that you were close to crying as well.
It was your wedding, though. One of the happiest days of your life. People would forgive you if you cried a bit.
“Nikolai Lantsov, do you promise to love Y/N L/N for the rest of your days, in sickness and in health, in rich and in poor?”
“I do,” Nikolai looked at you, and you looked at him, and all that either of you noticed in that moment was the sheer love in the other persons gaze.
“Y/N L/N, do you promise to love Nikolai Lantsov for the rest of your days, in sickness and in health, in rich and in poor?”
“I do.”
“Well then, the bride and groom may kiss to seal this union,” the officiant said.
And so, you did, a tear slipping down your cheek as Nikolais lips were on yours and you were officially his wife, he was officially your husband. You were so happy, it was more than words could ever accurately describe.
Nikolai pulled away, grabbed your hand and interlaced your fingers, and just like that, the party had started, the violins picking up with an old Ravkan dancing tune.
You spent the night dancing, laughing, drinking and enjoying the night for all that it was. You were married to the love of your life, and you were sure you would be so happy as you’d been that day for the rest of the days in which you graced the earth.
When all the guests had left, most of them retiring into their rooms after midnight, when all of the celebrations had been had, the good wine and kvas drank, the dancing done, you were still out there.
It was a group of people, actually. It’d been you, Nikolai, Genya, David, Tolya, Tamar, Nadia, Zoya, Alina and Mal. The violinist was still playing because they’d not yet retired to their own room. They were playing a slow song, and like it was habitual, you all paired off and danced.
Nikolai held you close, arms around your waist where yours were resting on either of his shoulders. You were dancing under the tree where you’d gotten married, and the lights were still on. As you registered the flit of a camera, knowing that the photographers had long gone home, you scoffed.
“Need something for the photo album, Tolya?”
“A few somethings,” he said. “These’ll look good framed, and Zoya most certainly agrees with me.”
“She does,” Zoya piped up. “As does Genya, who anticipated this happening and thought that the disposable was a good idea. You’re welcome, lovebirds.”
You and Nikolai laughed. “Thank you, guys.”
“We’re glad that you finally tied the knot, Nik,” Tamar said. “Seriously. Tolya and Nadia were beginning to debate placing bets.”
“Who would’ve won?”
“Me,” Tolya said. “A good man does not wait for the perfect time, in accordance to my sonnets. He either creates it or finds it in a day that is seemingly mundane.”
You scoffed. “It was not mundane, Yul-Bataar. He proposed to me when the sun was setting. We were by the lakes.”
“Mundane enough,” Nikolai said. “And perfect enough, after having tried to find the right time for three years.”
“You took my point, you took my compliment, and you unraveled it,” Tolya said, scoffing. “You’re a drunken buffoon.”
“I’m not drunk,” Nikolai said. “I’ve been too busy dancing with my wife to bother with it.”
“Ah, so you’re just a buffoon, then?” Genya asked. “Makes sense.”
Nikolai scoffed, meeting your gaze. “I love you,” he said.
“I love you too,” you said. “It’s getting late, and cold. Let’s head back inside.”
“Early start tomorrow,” David said.
“I will have Tamar cut my tongue out with one of her beloved axes before I rise at any time within the three hours after sunrise tomorrow morning,” Nikolai said as the group began the walk back. You heard the violin music stop, the violinist packing up as you left.
You grinned as you took Nikolais hand and interlaced your fingers.
You’d married the love of your life. You were so happy in what was just the start of your forever with him, and he was so happy in the start of his eternity with you.

Firebird's Affect on Mal
Mal with bird-like traits/animalistic behaviour.
OKAY, so Mal is the Firebird, right? And I know that the Firebird was never actually a bird, but, and hear me out here. WHAT IF, Mal had bird-like tendencies or even just more animalistic traits. Just picture Mal preening and puffing out his chest when someone compliments him, or specifically his tracking. (subtly, but noticeable if you're looking at him). Alina gets sick once when they were kids, and Mal spends a whole day running back and forth from her room gathering blankets and pillows and food and water until Alina stops him (buried in a mound of the aforementioned blankets and pillows). Or Mal in the military being oddly aggressive and territorial because of the trauma from being bullied in the orphanage, and becoming weirdly testy and hostile towards people who approach his "area".
And of course, because I am, as always, ridden with a severe case of Malkolai brainrot, so: Mal wearing bits of colour and spending ages in front of a mirror "preening" his appearance (essentially dressing up pretty and dolling himself up) before going to meet Nikolai. Mal constantly seeking Nikolai's attention by hovering (or, as Zoya and Alina dubbed it, "fluttering") about the golden King. Mal making a cooing/trilling noise when he's content, discovered when he and Nikolai were laying in bed and Nikolai started running and hand through his hair at the base of his head, which led to a very shocked silence, embarrassed blushing, frantic denials, and a fair amount of teasing (and yes, Nikolai does take full advantage of this discovery and now his hand is almost always on the back of his pet tracker's neck, much to the pleasure embarrassment of Mal). Mal extending his territorial and protective behaviour to Nikolai almost as soon as he met him, much to both parties' confusion and Alina's delight.
#i just think it would be really cute if Mal kept fussing over his appearance around Nikolai without really realising why#before finding out he is the firebird#the idea of mal having bird traits from being the firebird came to me in a dream#and is not leaving me alone#might turn this into a fanfic#mal and nikolai are such cuties#the brainrot is real#shadow and bone headcanon#mal x nikolai#mal & alina#nikolai lantsov#malyen oretsev#mal oretsev#malkolai#sab netflix#shadow and bone#sturmhond#headcanon#sab headcanon

zoya for the character ask 🌩️
favorite thing about them: love a mean bitch!!! also love a fanatic!!! I automatically love a mean girl rival character (and ship her with the protagonist) but I really like how Zoya has like zero morals in the trilogy. her choosing to side with Alina not because of ethical qualms but because of a personal slight. it’s heavily implied that if she had the forewarning to get her aunt out of Novokribirsk beforehand she would not have defected
least favorite thing about them: …….KoS…..
also more specifically I feel pretty strongly that the way LB handled the race retcon was ugh. fucking racist
favorite line: “Toss him over,” Zoya said. “Break his heart cruelly. I will gladly give our poor prince comfort, and I would make a magnificent queen.”
soooo true!! I also think it’s just worded in a fun way, rip the show nixing it in favor of “I could fix him”
brOTP: I love her bickering with Tolya specifically
OTP: I most ship her with Alina! probably then Genya, then Nikolai (KoS Zoyalai dni lmao)
nOTP: I don’t mind the canon fling she has with Mal but wrt fanon specifically I feel like people used to pair the spares a lot and put them in a weird character assassination rife relationship to make room for Alarkling or sometimes Nikolina
random headcanon: uhhh idk if I have any particular HC specifically but in terms of canon divergence I’m very married to the idea of her having the Lantsovs assassinated to solidify Nikolai’s reign
having a deposed king in exile is a bad idea!! especially if there are rumors that the sitting king has no blood claim
unpopular opinion: KoS just completely redid her characterization and it was for the worse? the dragon stuff was stupid? I don’t like her actually being queen, I like her as a Darkling 2.0? idk take your pick I have many unpopular complaints
I think she’s just more compelling in TGT and I would have liked to see *that* arc continued
song i associate with them: Fear Not, My King by Darkher gives me like sinister Zoyalai vibes

I am a sucker for chat fics, though none had my really specific requirements so I made my own 😊
Storm of Ruination (but friendly)
Chapter One: Information
*character backstories, majors, random facts, who’s roommates with who, etc.
Chapter Two: Monday
*Fic actually starts, there is a tiny Genya/Zoya cute scene to start the day but you can totally skip if you’re just here for the chat format 😊
Also, what is a good Zoya x Genya ship name?
I kinda like “Storm of Ruination” but it feels so long.
Fic:
Established Relationships:
Genya/Zoya
Mal/Nikolai - recent breakup with Alina (mentioned)
David/Paja (mentioned SUPER background)
Future Relationships:
Wytthias
Alinej
Tamadia
Hannina
Kazper (I’d say they are more of a & than /)
*any ideas I put into consideration, some awesome person already gave me ideas for a Wytthias date 😊

Like I know she’s just a recurring character this season which is understandable considering Sujaya was busy with another show (good for her!) but surely we have more behind the scenes content even just stills? Zoya is still one of the major characters of the entire ‘verse, I hope nobody over at Netflix is getting shocked at how popular she is especially within the book fandom which is still its core fanbase lmao. I’m not saying they should pick their social content specifically to pander to fan demands but like… damn. They did say this was a business so 😎
Shoutout to the people begging the official account to tweet about zoyalai for days before they even tweeted that though lol they were putting in the work for the rest of us 😭
Yes shoutout to the Twitter Zoyalai stans 👏👏👏
I fear that they are indeed shocked at how popular Zoya is. They watered down her role in the trilogy severely and I was hoping that was mostly due to scheduling issues like you said but a part of me also thinks they just didn’t realize people cared about Zoya that much. And I feel like we can see that not in just how much screen time she has but also how they’ve characterized her.
I almost think in their mind they thought it would please people to make her less of a “mean” girl and tone down her dislike of Alina sort of like how they toned down Mal’s jealously of Nikolai. Which is just not the way to go about it because her growth that way and her reflection on her younger selfs actions is part of what makes her such a deep character and the fact that she is “mean” and sharp and cutting and unapologetic about it but still a good person at heart is why we all love her so much and it feels like they’re sort of missing that point. Like so far in these seasons she’s done all her growth off screen which just leaves us maybe getting flashbacks.
I know that supposedly Leigh Bardugo had less involvement this season and I think the way they’ve handled Zoya shows that because Leigh is the one who gave her this redemption arc and made her a main character and made her a queen and I don’t think she’d let them sideline her and water her down like this without a fight.
It all just confuses me because I know a lot of if not all the cast and crew read the books and have done at least a little research into the fan base for them. It shows in the details and crumbs they put in for other ships. So how the hell did they miss the fandoms love for Zoyalai? Based on the care they put in everything else they shouldn’t be shocked by this.
#i have a feeling with the response so far they’ll overcompensate next season#we better get a season 3#s&b#s&b netflix#s&b season 2#s&b show#shadow and bone#s&b s2#s&b fandom#grishaverse#s&b trilogy#s&b spoilers#shadow and bone show#shadow and bone series#shadow and bone season 2#shadow and bone spoilers#shadow and bone s2#zoya nazyalensky#zoyalai#nikolai lantsov#s&b bts#shadow and bone bts

You can listen to this playlist btw that I made specifically for this chapter
Ch-63 ~The Aftermath~
The grounds were being cleared up off the bodies. And the skiffs were being prepared to leave. Anaya stood in the barren land.
The Unsea was gone and in its place, the sun shone once again and the sky was clear and blue.
She looked at the dead bodies littered on the ground with dazed eyes. She glimpsed at Harshaw’s lifeless body being lifted up. She recognized many of the dead soldiers, the ones that had entered the fold with her and had fought by her side. She recognised Ruby.
She might’ve lived. Many of them would have.
She glimpsed at Evalina’s lifeless body being taken away with the rest of the Darkling’s fallen soldiers. Anaya’s knife still stuck to her neck.
She shuddered at the sight in front of her.
She had seen people get slain. Slowly, suddenly, for profit, for greed, for petty revenge.
She herself had slain people. For another man’s profit, greed, for his petty revenge.
But she had not seen war.
Actual war.
She hadn’t ever gotten the barest glimpse of it all. The uncountable number of people massacred. Here one moment, gone the other.
She hadn’t seen the bloodshed, the destruction, the lives of so many people.
Gone.
Only because they put their faith in one man.
Gone
She was pulled out of the sphere before she could reach that chapter in her life.
There’s no one left.
There’s no one left.
The words echoed in her mind. Like the beating of a drum, a single key of the piano, hit one too many times.
Her breath shuddered as she looked around. She couldn’t get the images out of her head. Her palms trembled at her sides.
She breathed, managing to compose herself.
She wasn’t frail, she couldn’t afford to be.
The war was over. But the one inside of her was still going on.
She couldn't afford to lose her armour. ................................................................…………………………
They’d boarded one of the Darkling’s skiffs which was maneuvered by Zoya, Nadia and Adrik who were all alive and whole. They carried them over the dead sands as fast as their power allowed them to.
Alina sat at the far end of the skiff with the twins and Mal who was still unconscious but alive.
The Darkling’s body was wrapped in the blue robe of one of his fallen inferni.
Anaya’s wound had been patched up and the side of her torso still ached but the pain had deteriorated. She sat near the railings and glanced at the sands that seemed to stretch on for miles.
Nikolai sat by her side in silence which soon enough, he was the one to break.
“Your hair looks shorter,” he pointed out.
She looked at him with a perplexed gaze. Then she remembered that she’d cut it back when they’d been traveling.
“Yeah,I had to cut some of it”, she said, her gaze softening.
“Suits you” he smiled.
Anaya pursed her lips.
Even now, he couldn’t really stop being chivalrous.
“How are you feeling?” Anaya asked
“A lot better, now that I’m no longer part demon” he sighed. “Are your wounds any better?” he asked in solicitude, as he glanced at her torso and then at her arm.
“Quite bad but I’ll be alright” she gave a reassuring nod. I have to be.
…………………….......................................................................
It was only after they reached Tomiknaya when Anaya and the others learnt of Alina’s decision.
Sankta Alina, martyred on the fold.
Nikolai got himself cleaned up and got his hair cut and dressed in a First Army uniform that Genya had found for him.
Anaya dressed in a pale-blue embroidered kefta. She’d combed her hair and had some tea and bread with the rest of them.
Zoya and Nadia had dressed in blue kefta stolen from the dead. And within hours, Nikolai and Anaya set out for Kribirsk along with them.
The story they concocted was simple. He’d been the Darkling’s prisoner, slated for execution on the Fold, but he’d escaped, and with the Sun Summoner’s help, managed to vanquish the Darkling.
Few people knew the truth of what had happened.
The battle had been a confusion of violence waged in near darkness, and they believed that The Darkling’s Grisha and oprichniki would be too busy running or begging for royal pardons to dispute this new version of events.
It was a good enough story with a tragic ending. The Sun Summoner had given her life to save Ravka and its new King.
It had been late at night when Zoya , Anaya and Tamar had returned and went to check on Alina and Mal, bringing news from Kribirsk.
The power of the amplifiers had reached all the way to the drydocks. The explosion had knocked Grisha and dockworkers from their feet, and mayhem had erupted as light had started to pour from every otkazat’sya within range.
As the Fold began to disintegrate, they’d dared to step past its shores and join in the destruction.
Some of them had picked up guns and started hunting volcra, rounding them up in the few remaining scraps of the Fold and putting them to death.
It was said that some of the monsters had escaped, braving the light to seek sanctuary elsewhere.
Now, between the dockworkers, the Soldat Sol, and the oprichniki who had not fled, all that remained of the Unsea were a few dark wisps that hung in the air or trailed over the ground like lost creatures separated from the herd.
When rumors of the Darkling’s death had reached Kribirsk, the military camp had descended into chaos. That was when Nikolai had showed up.
He had installed himself in the royal quarters, began assembling First Army captains and Grisha commanders, and had simply started giving orders.
He’d mobilized all the remaining units of the army to secure the borders, sent messages to the coast to rally Sturmhond’s fleet, and had somehow managed it all on no sleep and two fractured ribs.
No other royal, let alone a youngest son and a rumored bastard would’ve done all of that.
But Nikolai wasn’t quite like any other royal. That much Anaya had known.
“How is he?” Alina asked Tamar.
She paused, then said, “Haunted. There’s a difference in him, though I’m not sure anyone else would notice.”
“But playing the ‘Charming Prince’ yet still” Anaya amended.
“True,” Zoya agreed. “If he gets any more charming, men and women may start lying down in the street for the privilege of being stepped on by the new Ravkan King. However did you resist him?”
“Good question,” Mal murmured from beside Alina.
“Turns out I don’t care for emeralds,” Alina said.
Anaya nodded in amusement , “Or royalty, undwindling chivalry tremendous wealth-”
“You can stop now,” Mal said.
Alina leaned her head against his shoulder. “Those are all nice enough, but my real passion is lost causes.”
“We’re surrounded by fools,” Zoya passed a look to Anaya who shook her head in agreement.
………………………………..........................................................
Anaya, Zoya and Nadia left for Os Alta with the twins the next morning.
The Darkling had taken up residence at the Lantsov quarters and had hung black banners from the windows and the carving of the double eagle above the doors had been replaced with a sun in eclipse.
All of which Nikolai had soon ordered to be taken down.
Anaya had joined the others in all of the meetings, planning to rebuild the nation from whatever scraps had been left.
The meetings were however ended early today, so that the people could watch the Darkling and the Sun Summoner being burnt on a pyre.
Anaya wasn’t very fond of the gesture, but she knew it was very much needed.
.................................................………………………………….
Anaya was walking around the camps made at the drydocks. At Nikolai’s request, giving orders to the people who were making preparations for the cremation of the Sun Summoner and The Darkling.
People weren’t exactly compliant to her at first, but she found that a little sharp tread, snapping from time to time and having an insane amount of confidence offered great help.
Only then she glimpsed at a girl standing near one of the tents, watching her from afar.
In her ordinary clothes and dim red hair, Alina Starkov was almost unrecognizable.
Anaya strode towards her and looked up and down, “New look suits you well” she raised an eyebrow.
“And the new duties suit you,” Alina responded.
“Oh it’s just” Anaya looked around with her hands folded behind her back. “Well someone needs to take care of all this”.
“I spoke with Nikolai, '' she said. “Zoya is to lead the Second Army, along with Genya and David”
Anaya raised her eyebrows and then gave a slight chuckle. “Why are you punishing Genya and David?”.
But she found the decision to be fairly suitable.
“There’s more”
Anaya raised an eyebrow.
Alina took out an envelope from the pocket of her coat. It had the double-eagle seal on it. “I also spoke to him about you” she handed Anaya the envelope which she opened with utter curiosity.
“You will be the Head of Ravka’s new council”.

HEARTBROKEN about the loss of shadow and bone specifically. I NEEDED season three to fix it
I NEED to Alina to go absolutely batshit in the best way possible
I NEED Nikolai and Zoya to get together in the most beautifully toxic way because neither of them are ready for that relationship
I NEED Genya to grieve and sob and cry and I need her to make me FEEL SOMTHING
I NEED Mal to do what he gotta do then come back and get his girlfriend in check
I need a season 3

For the Character ask game: Alina
Yay!! Thank you, I’d love to rave about Alina right about now.
One aspect I love about them: I love Alina’s compassion and understanding. She stuck by Mal her entire life. She understood Genya and befriended her even after being betrayed by her. She accepted Zoya as an ally after their rough start. She knew The Darkling was wrong and perhaps past redemption, but she still felt some compassion toward his suffering and I love her for that.
One aspect I wish people knew about them: She is so inherently flawed, and that’s a good thing! She is so caring and good at forgiving people but she does not always see their point of view before being fed it. She falls into the trap of temptation. She loves her powers which is not inherently bad, but causes her to make choices she might otherwise not. Alina is such a ball of sunshine at times, but the other side of that coin is sometimes being naive. And I love her for all of this!!! She learns and grows and the journey is so satisfying. Her ending, though bittersweet, is very much earned.
One headcanon I have about them: My headcanon is that she is such an attention whore that all of her loved ones refuse to let her near them while they are working asdfhjk. It’s not necessarily that she wants to be the center of attention, but more that she wants to feel loved and love them in return and sometimes her friends are like ???? I AM BUSY ma’am, please stop trying to hold my hand for two seconds.
One character I love seeing them interact with: trying hard not to make everything about my ship so, I actually love her dynamic with Nikolai so much! The golden retriever chaos is unmatched when they are together. I think they are so alike in many ways, and bring out so much softness in each other. I also think they should not be left alone without supervision so Zoya and Mal take turns on babysitting duty and pretend to be annoyed but they find it hilarious.
One character I wish they would interact with more: I love the girl gang and I would specifically like to see more of Alina and Zoya being besties! They are different in ways where they sometimes rub each other the wrong way but I love it for that reason. They’d help each other out of their shells in fun ways.
One headcanon that involves them and one other character: Okay finally to Malina, my headcanon is that when they sleep Alina is the big spoon. Every morning at the crack of dawn soldier man Mal is awake but Alina is groaning at him and not letting go of him when he tries to get up out of bed. Once she kept him there until mid morning when they hear the sounds of little kids causing chaos and she tries to be more of a morning person after that. Ironically the sun saint never becomes a morning person.

All The Things I love About Shadow and Bone Season 2
I am here today to give you a Tumblr classic list post about my new favorite thing Shadow and Bone Season 2. You might say “but they deviated from the source material so far” and “it was rushed” and “how are they going to move on from everyone being in the wrong place” and to that, I have a series of answers. Naturally, SPOILERS are below.
First, the season was based on books two and three of the shadow and bone series and Crooked Kingdom as well as some new stuff thrown in to make the Crows and the SOB stuff combine. I think they did a good job of exploring specific character backgrounds and trauma for the Crows (with the assumption that the aspects that were missing will be in Season 3). In my opinion, they fixed the problems I had with SOB primarily by making both Alina and Mal reasonable characters that I want to root for. My guess is they are setting up an Alina and Mal reunite plotline that will coincide with Nikolai and Zoya developing their relationship. The ending sets us up for the main plot of Six of Crows and King of Scars and so I think the pirate ship will return, but not before dropping off Inej in the barrel because she is needed for a job with the Crows. Now, I assume Matthias will die at the end of Season 3 so Nina is set up for the rest of the King of Scars plotline so we will have to prepare for that. With the early death of you know who, these things might just happen. I think the show did a great job setting us up for a new season and I support all the changes so, without further ado, here is what I loved.
1. Jesper and Waylan are perfect. I love their new relationship timeline and the actors have such good chemistry. I think the internet agrees that Waylan is perfectly written and cast and is so good at his job. I don’t mind the absence of a slow burn there and was a big fan of the butterfly scene. Also, the costume department knows how to dress them both and to whoever made the skirt choice thank you sincerely.
2. Matthias in prison did a great job extending the angst of being wrongly convicted that we just did not see in the books. Also, those flashbacks to Nina are golden and I cannot wait for him to be freed and meet the rest of the Crows.
3. Kazzle Dazzle is really giving book Kaz and I love him. I really did not think they would cast a child actor to reenact his backstory because that is a lot to ask for a child to do with a level of believability but they got every detail. What a great casting choice there. Then we have a thorough examination of his trauma and vendetta against Rollins. Those fight scenes were perfect and I loved every side-eye in the show.
4. Inej and Kaz moments were all here. We got a lot of their iconic scenes but not all of them and you bet I am waiting for season 3 to see where they develop things. So many times Kaz gave the “well obviously I’m in love with you” body language that accompanied something unhinged like firing her from the Crows to keep her safe. These actors understood the assignment. I love them and need more please and thank you.
5. Nina is my favorite. I can’t wait for her and Matthias to get together but she is still excellent and she at least got to eat waffles in this season so that’s something.
6. I am hoarding all the Nikolai and Zoya scenes but I do love what they got as individuals. Nikolai is a wonderful example of casting gone right. Perfect as both a second son and a chaotic pirate. Just yes.
7. Alina is so much better in the show. It needs to be acknowledged. Also, great scenes with her and Mal. Small amounts of resentment between them because of her power is unfortunately book accurate, but it was more reasonable in the show if I’m honest. I also think her ending was interesting. I know we see her smiling at the end after the murder happens but honestly I don’t think that is an immediate red flag for her being a villain. She did prevent the deaths of everyone around her and they can do whatever they want with her next season. I think they will resolve it halfway through the next season honestly.
8. Last for now, the addition of the sword heist was excellent. It did a lot to flesh out the rest of the world prior to the Six of Crows plot. I was also a big fan of the drug-based character development. Plus, it gave Waylan a chance to save the day. I like how it gave Nina and Zoya a chance to resolve their disagreements about leaving the army. It also gave us a Inej saves Kaz scene that was really important. It never existed in the books and was a great addition to the show. Big fan.
So I loved basically everything and I for sure missed some but here is my current list. I am really banking on the Tumblr gifsets and Tiktok fan edits to see me through (free idea for someone to do an edit of any of the crows but mostly Matthias to hozier’s eat your young please). Now I am waiting for an announcement where hopefully we are given a Season 3. Nothing is guaranteed these days but I love delusionally manifesting more content for the things I am invested in.

OKAY. finished sab2 you can rant to me now tell me all your thoughts bc im still stewing
OKAY. OKAY.
overall opinion is that the crows should not have been in sab at all. it should have been solely Alina and her story. maybe a cameo of inej or Nina at MOST but certainly the crows should not have been involved.
because they WERE, they spent the whole season trying to find something for them to do, and settled on.???? ruining their characters. LMAOOO . first of all, they made it very much about romance which was strange, but mostly they fast tracked relationships and gave characters dynamics that were not true to their characters. the whole point of wesper is that wylan is near scandalized but then warms up to jespers jokes and all that. but they?? hooked up??? previously??? like what the fuck.
also severe erase of inej trauma! why does kaz get a full flashback backstory and inej doesn't? taking away tante heleen (particularly by someone else's hand) was a shit move since a woman being in charge of the brothel was super important!! pekka is supposed to be a reasonably irrational hatred of kaz (in that it's a grudge he specifically holds, and inej hates him by proxy) he's not supposed to OWN INEJ. also, when everyone else was having the hallucinations, why did everyone else get to imagine family and then inej got kaz's stupid ass?? where's her fucking brother???
also the Jesper and aditi hallucination was super expositiony and did his backstory dirty. I don't like that kaz got the only flashbacks it's kind of rude.
all in all, the crows overshadowed the shadow and bone cast w a kind of weak plot. it felt like major fan service. it also felt like they didn't know how to properly develop relationships and had to use everything from soc and ck instead of actually slowburning properly (kanej fucking SPEEDRAN, not to mention wesper)
onto the actual sab plotline
I detested mals character this season. he felt like a second choice, and they really erased the core of his conflict with Alina so the conflict they did have felt very manufactured and out of nowhere. the contrast of him fitting in anywhere and her always out of place was supposed to affect their relationship as well as her relationship w the darkling and it felt too rushed.
Nikolai I was also disappointed in. the point of him turning into the monster was that Alina loses everyone all the time, and it's more proof that the darklings words about her immortality and power means something. she has to witness him become a monster and turn to the darkling; now impossible, because unless they're launching immediately into kos (wonky idea) the darkling is fucking dead.
also WHY did they kill David off. for literally what reason. also they did zoya dirty and also they did not give genya as horrifying scars as she probably should have had but that's a separate issue. also tolya?? for no reason he was really outgoing suddenly.
putting both books 2&3 together WITH the crows was a bad move in my opinion, it made everything too rushed and felt like we didn't get nearly as much out of it as we could've. I liked some parts of it such as baghra and stuff but overall I was. I was pretty pissed by what they did LMAOO

All right! This post is something that’s been a long time in the making. I hit 500 followers early last month, and I’ve been trying to figure out a cool way to celebrate ever since.
This is what I came up with! Requests for this are open until the 29th and will probably start coming out at the beginning of next week, with the latest I can think that the first one would come out being around next wednesday.
The characters to whom this applies are the same as usual! Nikolai, Alina, Mal, and Zoya as far as Shadow and Bone goes, and Kaz, Inej, Jesper, Nina and Matthias as far as Six of Crows is concerned. Pin Hawthorne of Free Rein is included in this as well, as he always is. As for characters that I don’t normally attach to my events, we have Aaron Warner and Kenji Kishimoto from the Shatter Me series!
CONCERT LINEUP
TAYLOR SWIFT
invisible string- pick a verse, bridge, or chorus from any taylor swift song. Provide a character, and I’ll write a mini-song fic/blurb with each paragraph based off of each lyric sent in. Multiple verses, bridges or choruses can be sent in but to keep the fics relatively short, I ask that, per request, you don’t send in more than three.
paper rings- weddings!! give me a character. a rough word count (10k is the most I’m willing to write, but if you want the fic to be a longer one, specifics are heavily recommended) and where you would want to get married if you were to get married! You can also tell me if you want it to be next level angst or to have the fluff scale turned up to eleven. Provide whatever specifics you want, and along with the fic, you’ll get a moodboard! You can mention if you want the moodboard to replace whatever gif I use as a fic header, but if you want it at the bottom of the fic and for me to include the gif anyway, just let me know!
lavender haze- AUS! You can pretty much pick any AU or combination of AUs that you want, be it a royalty au combined with your selection of the thousands of soulmate aus that people have come up with or a modern au with a coffeeshop au thrown in there! Anything is fair game, as long as you provide me with a character and whatever other specifics you can think to include. I’ll write three thousand words for this one, so again, the more specifics, the better!
long story short- all right! This one will be a fic set like, 5-10 years in the future! Flashback scenes can be included if you want them to be but if not, the past that got the characters to where they are will be discussed a bit through internal monologuing. This one is pretty much just up to the requester. The plot is your choice, the character is your choice, even the genre is your choice. everything is up to you and for the third time, the more specifics you add, the better!
message in a bottle- ships and moodboards! send in a brief description of yourself, your gender and fandom pref, and an activity you think would make a fun date night, and I’ll ship you with someone!
CONAN GRAY
lookalike- this is the hurt/comfort freebie! give me a character, a hurt/comfort prompt or idea of your choosing, and a word count (for this one, the max I’ll write is 5k)
fight or flight- headcanon freebie! Give me an idea you have that you want me to write headcanons for
the cut that always bleeds- this is the conan gray version of the invisible string prompt. Give me a verse, bridge, or chorus of any of conans songs and I’ll write an angst fic using that, with one paragraph for every lyric in each stanza. In the interest of keeping these fics short, I ask that you only send three stanzas per request
the story- long fics! These ones can take place at random points throughout different years in the characters lives, and they can follow pretty much any plotline! Want me to write a slowburn that runs across a decade or two? want me to show how the characters lives would progress throughout the run of five years or maybe a relationship a year before it begins, as it develops, and a year after something like a proposal or marriage? Theres a lot of potential for plots here, it’s entirely up to the requester! These fics tend to run a bit longer and the shortest I could see myself making one is 5k, with a max word count of 15k, so be mindful that these will likely run a bit on the longer side and thus, take me a bit more time to complete
grow- songs and moodboards! for this one, just drop this prompt into my inbox and tell me that it’s from this event, and I’ll make a moodboard based on how I percieve you/your aesthetic, or I’ll give you a list of like, ten songs that remind of me of you or that I think you would probably enjoy! (moots only)
PHOEBE BRIDGERS
funeral- this one is the MCD freebie. Drop this one into my inbox if you want me to write some angst involving the death of a character of your choice
killer- this is AU’s but with an angsty twist of your choosing! Soulmate AU’s with near-death experiences, right person right time but with an unexpected twist that throws things off completely? Pick and AU and an angst trope and give me a character for this one.
moon song- phoebe bridgers version of the invisible string and the cut that always bleeds prompts. Pick any chorus, verse, or bridge from any song by phoebe bridgers, and I’ll write a mini songfic with it. Again, in the interest of keeping the requests short, I ask that you send no more than three stanzas per request.
punisher (copycat killer version)- this one, in contrast to the rest of the phoebe bridgers prompts, is a bit more on the hurt/comfort side. For this one, give me any prompt that you want! My only ask is that, if you take the prompt from another account, you credit them in your request, and that you keep the prompt within the realms of hurt/comfort or angst. Send in a character for this one, and I’ll write a thousand words for it.
waiting room- this one is the painful angst freebie! Make it hurt, make it hard hitting. Have Character A watch Character B almost die. Make it as painful as you want, and with this one, the more specific you can be, the better! Depending on how much you include, these ones may also run a little on the longer side (3-7k as a minimum, 10-14k as a max)
