SPILLING THE TEA ON ME AND MY HABITS AS A ROLEPLAY PARTNER (except the tea is an explanation and NOT an excuse because that would suck)

MY SILENCE IS NOT HATRED, AND I CAN BE SILENT FOR A VARIETY OF REASONS.

As I explained in my rules document, I am currently in year five of six of university. This means that one of those reasons is university-related, in the sense that I might be busy with my uni courseload or extracurriculars.

I also might only have the energy or muse to respond to some threads / messages and not to others. This is the type of thing that leads to me frequently responding to threads / messages from months ago, often to the great bafflement of my writing partners.

IF I FOLLOW YOU, I WANT TO INTERACT AT SOME POINT.

Our writing styles might mesh well together, or we might share fandoms (even if I don’t have A Character on my roster for that fandom, I can still create verses for my muses in that fandom and / or I want to fangirl about said fandom with you)

Sometimes, it just takes me a hot minute to figure out How to have our muses interact, even if I Know I want to interact with you. This “hot minute” in question might be a few days, a few weeks, a whole entire month, or maybe in the most extreme cases, a year.

Ah, the classic dilemma of AuADHD, amirite?

With the impulsive nature of my fixations, a thread I have muse for one week might not have that same level of muse a couple weeks later. I used to just drop these threads, but I’m working on getting better about actually following through on coming back to threads when I do get muse for them. If you’ve noticed me responding to threads from two, three, or even four months ago, that’s why that’s happening.

The only time I’ll drop a thread or dynamic is when I get soft / hard blocked by whoever I’m writing with or the other person tells me that they want to drop a thread.

When in doubt, assume that I haven’t dropped a thread unless I tell you explicitly that I’m dropping a thread.

Dropped threads don’t mean dropped dynamics.

I have no specific schedule; I tend to reply to whatever threads / messages / memes I have muse for in that immediate moment first. But please do not assume that my silence means a lack of interest!

How many works do you have on ao3?

148 works in a large variety of fandoms. I also have an enormous volume of work I never posted to AO3, mostly short pieces, which live in my old fic journal on Dreamwidth.

What’s your total word count?

319,626 words! So that's about 2k words per fic which feels accurate. Obviously I have longer and shorter pieces.

What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

My top fic is actually something I wrote in 2017 (it's totally great and cool to comment and kudos older stories!). It's a soulmate trope rewrite of Disney's Tangled called wide open to the sun and I still regularly get kudos on it. I think it was probably recced somewhere because the exchange I wrote it for was pretty small.

Then it's diamond heart, which is an Adventure Zone Magnus/Taako get-together fic, followed by this love left a permanent mark, a short Star Trek: TNG piece about Data asking Geordi to help with his android maintenance, which is soft fluff.

4 is build a bridge even where there is no river, which is a Game of Thrones fic from 2014 (some ancient show speculation) that's a Daenerys/Arya get-together fic. #5 is blinders, which is an ATLA Toph/Zuko post-series romcom.

Kind of funny that they're all different fandoms and pairing types, but I guess I'm most successful with my get-together fics -- that seems to be the theme.

Do you respond to comments? Why/why not?

There was a point a few years ago where I stopped responding because I was stressed out but I eventually got back into the habit, and if someone comments on something old and I realize I never responded to someone else on that fic, I usually respond back, even to a very old comment. Why not? I always feel like it's nice to say thank you.

What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?

though love be a day, Steven Universe, Pearl/Rose. The story of Pearl and Rose's last date before Steven's birth. Pretty sure I made myself cry reading it.

What's the fic you've written with the happiest ending?

I think mostly I write happy endings. It might just be recency bias but maybe the happiest one is the exponent of breath, Good Omens, A/C, in which there is a lot of fluff, a proposal, and a wedding. I had a lot of fun with that.

Do you write crossovers?

Recently I haven't, but I definitely have in the past and I wouldn't say no in the future if I had a good idea. I really like fusions where you put the characters from one fandom into another fandom's world.

Have you ever received hate on a fic?

I got some anon hate on a fic I wrote for an exchange; the story wasn't quite received like I'd expected and people thought I'd tripped a DNW, so. Fair. I ended up doing pre-reveals edits to address the issue (I know, this is bad form) and it remains in the Anonymous collection to this day lol. No further questions.

Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Very rarely -- I hardly ever have ideas for smut, although I do read it and enjoy it. It's almost always f/f (write what you know) and soft and romantic.

I am plotting an Ineffable Wives smutfic right now but it's still very early in the plotting stages and may never come to fruition. I hope it does -- I'd like to write more.

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

I've been putting my fanwork on the internet since 2001, it would be a shock if it hadn't been stolen at some point, but I'm not aware of it ever happening.

Have you ever had a fic translated?

I don't think so.

Have you ever co-written a fic before?

It's been a very long time. I wrote a bunch of stuff with my ex-wife that is probably all off the Internet now, and my BFF and I used to write together a ton when we lived together, but it's been a long time since she and I have shared fandoms and worked on something together. I've always done a round robin/roleplay type of thing where you pass bits of writing around to each other and play off each other. I do think it would be fun to write something with someone else again though, now that Google Docs makes that a lot simpler.

What's your all-time favourite ship?

All-time? I really can't say. Before Good Omens I liked shipping little bits of everything, especially f/f rarepairs, but I've gone through a lot of cycles. Some old favorites are Cardcaptor Sakura - Eriol/Sakura, Avatar: The Last Airbender - Toph/Zuko, Steven Universe - Garnet/Pearl. Right now tops is Aziraphale/Crowley of course.

What's a WIP that you want to finish but don't think you ever will?

In like March, I started writing a fic where both Crowley and Aziraphale were turfed out of their homes at the beginning of S2 but I couldn't quite figure out where I was going to go with it -- I just wanted them to both be in this uncertain place when Gabriel showed up and both aware of the precarity of their positions. But the rest of the plot has failed to come to me, so idk if I'll finish it. If that inspires someone else, feel free to run with it.

What are your writing strengths?

I hope it's character voices; if I can't hear the dialogue in my head I know it's not right. I also try to write good descriptions and entwine feelings with said description.

What are your writing weaknesses?

I read copper's answer to this and had to laugh in sympathy because I'm currently untangling the ridiculously long sentences in my WIP and wondering why it is I've never found an em-dash I didn't like. I also overuse semi-colons.

My writing weaknesses also include the fact that I will start writing without having a plan, ending, or plot, just because I thought of a good piece of dialogue.

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I don't know any other languages but honestly I feel like I tend to go along with fandom convention for this -- so in Japanese language fandoms I feel like honorifics are important and I'll use them, but beyond that it's all English for me.

What was the first fandom you wrote for?

I wrote my first fic in 2000/2001-ish and it was a Cardcaptor Sakura fic in which Syaoran and Sakura get together after the end of the series as young adults. I emailed a webmaster I admired and they posted it on their Geocities website. Yes I am old!!

What's a fandom/ship you haven't written for yet but want to?

I'm kind of stuck on my one favorite thing right now but I'm also rewatching The Good Place and I feel like it would be fun to write for. Sitcoms are really hard imo, I have written Community and Brooklyn 99 and it's really hard to get the humor balance right, but when you do, it pays off great.

What's your favourite fic you've written?

I'm pretty sure this is recency bias as well but recently I got a comment on wake with thirst, which is a Good Omens Michael gen fic that retells bits of the Good Omens story from Michael's POV, and when I reread the fic, I found myself kind of mad that no one else has read it, because I do honestly love it. I feel like I did some clever stuff there in the bits between the canon knowledge we have of Michael. I had fun getting into their weird POV, and also torturing them a bit. But also it's gen-fic about an angel almost no one likes so I get why it hasn't gotten a lot of attention. The Michael and Shax section is probably my favorite.

Basics

This blog is 14+

This blog is mainly SFW. As a young adult, I'm comfortable with exploring mature themes, but I prefer subtle hints over full-on explicit content when it comes to sexual topics. If we both plan to explore a heavy topic (e.g. self-harm), I'll try my best to remember to include content warnings. I'm open to NSFW roleplays (with 18+ roleplayers obviously), but I'll only do it in private with individuals I trust and feel comfortable with.

I'm personally fine with swearing, but if you're uncomfortable with profanity, please let me know. I'll make an effort to try to avoid it or censor it, even in character.

When roleplaying, I may express character traits that differ from my real life views (e.g. a character that has a habit of spewing racist and misogynistic things). I'll provide advance notice, but if I forget and I inadvertently offend you, please let me know so I can adjust my response. Note that character portrayals don't reflect my personal beliefs.

I'm open to both fandom and fandomless RP blogs, but I lean towards original settings since my fandom knowledge is limited.

I appreciate medium-length responses because they give me ample room to develop my next reply. Occasionally, longer responses are welcome too.

I prefer to move at my own pace, so please don't rush me to respond immediately.

You're welcome to ask questions or share your thoughts directly with the characters I RP as. I'll respond in-character to whatever is on your mind!

I prefer planning a RP first, but I'll occasionally let unexpected starters slide.

If I inadvertently breach your RP rules or cause unintended discomfort, please let me know politely. I'll promptly apologise and adjust my response!

Don'ts

Please don't inappropriately ship my characters (e.g. forcing an aroace character to go on a romantic date with a non-aroace character)!

Please don't gatekeep my characters!

Please refrain from removing or altering my characters' abilities without my permission.

Please don't godmod my characters, which means you can't control what they do. I prefer not to have my characters forcefully controlled, including mind control, because it limits my creative freedom. However, I'm willing to make exceptions if we plan and agree on such scenarios in advance.

Please refrain from putting my characters in stressful or uncomfortable situations without my consent.

Please avoid referencing other roleplays I wasn't involved in, unless there's a compelling narrative reason that we've discussed in private.

Please don't tag me in RP events. I prefer to plan out my own roleplays to avoid feeling pressured.

Please don't ask me to create RP events because it stresses me out!

Extra

I'm open to participating in group roleplays! To get started, we'll have to plan out the details, decide on a scenario, and determine the order of play.

I'm comfortable roleplaying multiple muses, but I prefer to limit it to 5 characters. Exceeding this number may impact my energy and ability to keep track of each character.

I'm still overcoming the lingering effects of a language delay. Please bear with me if I struggle with sentence structure or misinterpret your words.

Anonymous asks are permanently turned off because of a couple of past unpleasant experiences. So, please don't bother asking me to turn on anonymous asks.

I'm not typically interested in magic anons or stuff like that. However, I'm willing to consider scenarios where one or more of my characters are transformed into children, animals (e.g. lemur) or mythical creatures (e.g. harpy) for a short period of time.

I'm completely fine with shipping, but please ask for my permission first. Also, please ensure that my character isn't already in a canonical relationship or isn't inclined towards romantic relationships.

I want to mention that the word "boop" makes me somewhat uncomfortable because it reminds me of someone I'd rather forget. Additionally, some of my characters have experienced trauma related to physical touch without consent. Please ask permission before initiating physical contact between our characters. Include context for why your character would touch my characters (e.g. they don't understand personal boundaries or they're trying to get their attention).

I may add more rules in the future, but this is all you need to know for the time being.

For the foreseeable future, I'll be focusing exclusively on roleplaying as reworked characters and OCs from my Metal Slug AU that I've completed so far. Feel free to ask questions because I know the series may be unfamiliar to some.

hello! it’s that time again i try to sell myself as a potential writing partner. i have written these in the past and been successful in occasionally finding roleplay partners who are interested in the same sorts of things as me. so i am looking for people who want to world build with me. i really like discussing plots, headcanons, and anything that can make me understand your muse better! i love sharing memes, drabbles, not roleplaying linearly and tossing around multiple threads! i don't need many people to write with but i really prefer to have a handful of people who i know well, am invested in their muses/feel super comfortable with my knowledge of their muses & pingpong my annoying ideas at them easily.

i tend to write lengthier things but i am okay with any length as long as it’s not one-liners! i also have zero interest in writing with someone who i will only have one thread with and never speak to again. 💀 i just rather focus on threads that will grow outside of just one single reaction! i like to think i am pretty easy to toss shit around with but i am a little shy so sometimes it takes a while for the ball to start rolling but once it is i am full-sending that shit.

people reblogging callouts for unjust reasoning between friend groups that really should stay within a friend group. people dogpiling one person and assuming the position of a good human being for that. people overall spreading vagueposts , gossip , and other slandering things. in my opinion , unless people are threatening your very life or are a sexual predator , you should keep drama between you and the person in question. sort it out !! stop dragging the entirety of tumblr into your feud. i only learned this big lesson about tumblr callout culture over a year ago.

burnbooks : gross behavior to make a blog centered around talking badly about people.

elitism : people who believe that they are the only one out there who can write a muse and try to slander another person who likes the muse just as much as they do.

copying people's blogs and then preaching about how people should stop stealing from you : it's gross and i just find it so so hypocritical that anyone can say that they have been stolen from when they straight up are doing it themselves. look in the mirror , please.

autoshipping and forceshipping : first of all , if i did not agree to a ship , please do not suddenly act like it's okay to ship with me. it's okay if we build up to it but instantly shipping makes me question where our threads are going. not everything is about shipping , we can write many threads together. i would like to write many threads together before we instantly ship as some muns have chemistry with their writing more than others. forceshipping is gross and being a victim of someone attempting to forceship with me pretty continuously as well as stalk and harass me for years .. i'm really really not okay with it.

◈　EXPERIENCE/HOW MANY YEARS　 ⋯ 　 i have been writing on platforms since 2008. i started on youtube back in the day ! i joined tumblr , however , back in 2015. i wrote in the disney fandom when it was CRAZY busy with blogs. i wrote for snow white very briefly around that time but had no true idea of how tumblr worked lol. it really was an experience. i remember roleplay groups were HUGE and there was one particular roleplay group in disney that was super popular. <3 i'll always remember that.

◈　PLOTS OR MEMES　 ⋯ 　it depends on the day you ask me this question tbh. most of the time it is memes because i am a teacher and i am perpetually tired when i get home. it's hard to think after work for me. on weekends though ?? i say plots. i am in a good headspace at that time.

◈　LONG OR SHORT REPLIES　 ⋯ 　this ALSO depends. i am someone who can write a TON if the thread strikes me. like , angst ?? an ANGSTY long thread ?? i'm so there , girl. sign me up.

◈　TIME TO WRITE　 ⋯ 　i throw everything in the queue. i tend to find my writing habits existing more in the early parts of the day.

◈　ARE YOU LIKE YOUR MUSES　 ⋯ 　if i said i was like my muse , i would feel like i need to humble myself a little. belle is an amazing , empathetic , intelligent woman. she is such a wonderful human being. am i a wonderful person ?? i definitely can work on that a little more. i will tell you though that i am very close to my father like belle is with her own. i love reading , literature is everything to me which makes it easy for book talk in threads. belle and i have a similar taste in stories too. belle and i are also empathetic towards people for better or worse. we love people and try to make the best decisions for them if they need advice or help. i just try to keep it real ?? there is a lot we can learn from disney princesses about how to live. so YEAH she inspires me truly. <3

what’s a grammar rule you find yourself breaking or ignoring a lot?

so APPARENTLY according to this post you’re supposed to indicate interrupted dialogue with dashes OUTSIDE the quotation marks like what. what is this monstrosity of a grammar rule:

i’ve always been like:

“Eiden Itadori, you useless idiot—” Aurelius paused to sip his wine before nudging the other’s forehead with the tip of his shoe, “—stop blocking the sidewalk.”

sorry eiden so yeah the correct version looks so unnatural to me but now that i know this rule there’s the agony of following through because i know i’ll be more bothered otherwise aughhhh anyways

i do love breaking rules maybe i’ll resist convention. be a grammar menace like what also because be elegant or die

11. when you are writing a reply, how much ahead in the thread do you plan?

even with “plotted threads” i just write by the seat of my pants and let random tangents happen on the way to the end goal, kinda like meandering drunk down a sidewalk u get me lolol

but sometimes i get an idea for an interesting reply or reaction for my muse & how it’d affect the vibes of the thread 2-3 replies down; then i either write the Thing and see how my partner replies (because the outcome might change as we RP in real time), or pause before the reply to tell them “hey Y i think i’ll make A do this next do u think it’ll make your muse XYZ in response”

i don’t plan too far ahead or too specifically because then it’s less RP and more acting out a script u get me

20. if you are writing a wrong reply that’s not working out, do you save what you have to be continued at another date, or do you scrap it and rewrite?

sooooo i always save what i have because the cardinal rule of writing (that i follow) is that you can always use what you've written later, or for something else. (i have recycled bits of discarded replies into replies for other threads and that worked fine!)

and then leaving the reply along in drafts to go and do other other replies (or visit other muses) helps because i think it lets my subconscious stew on it until i know what i want to say. half the time it's not the words that's gotten me blocked as it is the mood/tone i want to convey in the reply. once i find the right language for it things flow much more smoothly.

also sometimes what i draft is just crap but i need to SEE the crap later with fresh eyes before i burn it all to start over (it's carthartic)

#3 Who was your first muse? Are we talking about when I first discovered RP? Or when I actually really got into it and wrote? Because when I first discovered it, it was Maia Rutledge from the 4400 (highly recommend this show! I haven't seen the reboot, so I couldn't tell you if it's good? But the original is fantastic.) I unfortunately didn't do much with that account, because I didn't know what I was doing at the time.

#5 What’s your oldest roleplay blog? Oh this is bringing back nostalgia for me, because my oldest and probably my first (don't hold me accountable for that because I actually don't even know at this point.) rp blog was Icy Trix from Winx Club. I've admittedly tried to bring her back quite a few times (I get attached to characters really quickly. case in point, Weiss. lmao) but I never hold my self accountable to actually stay active and do things. Horrible habit of mine. But I know that's not what this question is asking. I'm just rambling at this point.

Long Version: Them calling each other their "insufferable counterpart" is still from old roleplays I did ages ago (I was roleplaying as Nef) and it still makes my shipper heart weak. It's so perfect for them as it doesn't only show off their constant affectionate bickering but also pretty much spells out the appeal of the ship: they are counterparts that perfectly complete each other from personality to fighting style.

They are the same where it matters: fighting for the same goal, serving the same gods, both highly intelligent and capable, equals in rank and competence.

But opposites where they can complete each other and mellow out each other's worst traits. Baron is usually a stick in the mud, but Nef makes him loosen up and be more sociable. He's able to relax and laugh with him. Meanwhile, Baron makes Nef chill out on the being-an-evil-little-shit aspect of his personality. He isn't as needlessly cruel and does show mercy (usually in form of a quick kill) when Baron is around. While he revels in the cruelty of war he knows the things they have to do burden Baron more than he lets on. So he'd rather take over the dirty work and let Barontake the role of the honourable, brave general he was always meant to be. He does love that about Baron after all, his honour. It's such a rare thing in the upper echelons of the church filled with socialites that neither Nefarian nor Mevolent truly trust. But Baron? You can trust him, you can rely on him and Nefarian appreciates such a rare quality that of course must be fully indulge in, that lovely man is his now-

Baron is a little too trusting of his fellow zealots *coughdiableriecough*, but Nef makes up for it by being twice as distrusting. No one dares backstab Baron while Nef is there, and if they try anyway, Nef will teach them a lesson before they get anywhere close to Baron. Meanwhile, Nef is getting emotional support from Baron he can't get anywhere else. He's probably the only one around who cares about him and his well-being. Enough so to try and softly guide him away from his bad habits: alcohol, sex, cigarettes and overworking. Baron is Nef's rock in the storm and the healthiest relationship he can have even if it's not the healthiest Baron can have. He knows Baron deserves better than him, but Nef has always been a selfish man...

On the battlefield, Baron is one of the strongest fighter, a skilled and incredible fast swordsman. Since Nef is a glass canon and relies heavily on magic, I headcanon he prefers ranged attacks. Fighting them together must be an impossible task (think Ornstein and Smough from Dark Souls).

But since I love the drama™ how they went from rivals to soulmates it the most interesting part to me.

Nef took an interest in Baron first. He knew him through his friendship with China, Baron's boss, and thought him to be quite physically attractive, but grew intrigued about him when China told him about his personality and found out that he and Eliza had been dating. Nef gathers intel about everyone who rises to the upper ranks but it's rare for him to be fascinated by a specimen.

Meanwhile, Baron absolutely despised Nef. He didn't like that a convert was Mev's right-hand man, especially one that didn't seem particularly pious. Someone of old blood, someone of Baron's own heritage would be a much better fit for that position. Add to that that he's in the beginning still in denial about being gay yet out of all people he ends up being attracted to Nefarian. As if it wasn't bad enough that Nef is quite an attractive man, he also thought it was absolutely hilarious to flirt and tease Baron every chance he got. And that was driving Baron mad in more ways than one.

Essentially their relationship went from rivals to Nef teasing Baron until it ends in hatefucking, Baron slowly realising that Nef actually has feelings for him and isn't just using him to get off and finally (when Baron becomes the second general) learning to appreciate each other when Baron realizes Nef is just as devoted as him and him 'slacking off' is the result of Mev completely over working Nef.

Who are your longest rp friends?

Oh boy, I have a bad habit of falling out of touch with people so those from the super old days of me on here have probably left. I do have some on discord but as for active people I think I've known @the-storm-chaser the longest

Favourite thing about roleplaying?

Collaborative writing, it's one of the reasons I like D&D so much as well. Writing for myself is fun but having a dialouge between one or more other writers is really fufilling to me

Favourite & least favourite trope?

Gonna combine these because I don't like to focus on tropes much. If they fit for a scenario that's fine but I don't really seek them out good or bad.

As I said in my ask before, because I want to expand and reassure people: it's completely normal to be upset when you feel like your rp/shipping partner is losing interest in your bond/ship, and/or not prioritizing you to some degree at all. It sucks. This is a completely normal thing to feel. When the people you're interested in interacting with are sending ask memes and/or interacting with everyone but you, when every thread gets replied to but yours; there will be times when you won't be affected, and bad days where this will upset you. This will upset you a LOT. 

It may happen for various reasons, and you'd still be allowed to be upset about it. Your partner(s) may be having a relaxed approach to interactions with you because your muses are at a good point in development, and you'd still be allowed to be upset about it. It may be because they haven't seen your most recent ask meme/starter call no matter how many times you reblog it to try and make it more accessible, and you'd still be allowed to be upset about it. Hell, after a lot of years spent roleplaying, when this happens it still upsets me, and I'm pretty hard to make even a temporary dent in as I don't value roleplay as much. Usually, when this happens enough times, I have the bad habit to pull away- and I mean entirely, both from the people/person and the bonds/ships. I just no longer engage with them with the same amount of enthusiasm I had before, as my logical conclusion is that I have been sent a message without being properly communicated to, and I don't engage in this.

What matters is finding an healthy way to deal with it.

You feeling upset about this and wanting to have a chat with the person that you want to feel prioritized by isn't being pushy. This is you putting trust in someone to hear you out on something that has scrambled you a bit or a lot, and finding a solution to it together- be it reassurance or an explanation on why this has happened. It isn't pushy or manipulative to talk with your friend about it, as long as you don't make weird demands, and you should do it.

Picking something new or old to distract yourself with to calm down from the upsetness this has caused you, so you may have a talk about it with a clearer mind or simply get distracted from the emotion entirely until it subsides? Also very healthy, and a thing I recommend! Expecially if you start feeling like this past 9PM, which I call the Bullshit Hour to feel negative emotions, as those fuckers will be quadruplified. Never trust anything bad that you feel after 9PM, and you'll be much better.

HOWEVER, it's important to say that your friend shouldn't pay the price for your feelings: attempting to manipulate them into dropping their other partners for your comfort and jealousy is not going to happen, and displaying the willingness to try and make someone who is trying to accommodate you bend further to a temporary bad feeling is a shitty way to deal with the situation. This may seem obvious, but sometimes it's not.

Communicating about your upsetness after you calmed down a bit is always the correct choice. Feeling bad about a situation and wanting to talk about it to try and be comforted and accommodated a bit isn't being ''pushy'', as long as you aren't a complete dick about it and can compromise.

i love conflict and complexity in roleplay. the messier and worse they are at communication, the more invested i am in them trying to work it out. this extends to ships too.

josh has a lot of feelings. this is kind of a problem as he's also always deeply in them and has a bad habit of being wrong about whose to blame and what to do about it. he categorically and consistently makes the worst choice in any given situation, has a mess of unhealthy coping mechanisms to deal with a shitton of trauma, and swings between wanting to blame everybody and nobody for his problems. he is wrong and i will not be offended if your muse yells at him about it.

i'm currently trying out this fun new thing called a work-life balance, so we'll see how that impacts my activity. when i'm active i'm very active and reply very quickly, but my blogs will sometimes go dormant when my work gets busy. i either reply at lightning speed or get swept up and go a week or two without any activity.

At least, that is my goal. I know my rules page is pretty long...
