Me to my mind: could you just stop thinking about the love scene for a moment and get yourself out of the gutter?
My mind: *slowly spins both scenes of Phaya doing That Thing™ with his hips, like a rotisserie chicken*

I want to say your illustrations give me life. I was wondering if you've ever thought of drawing Alastor’s death? Your art style is so amazing I keep wondering how you would depict it. It haunts my dreams.
Thank you darlings 💜 And yes, I thought about it. It's haunting the narrative (me), but this project is a big one. Not my usual quick silly comics. Unfortunately I don't have enough time to draw those scenes as I would like to. So, it's patiently waiting for a bit more free time days.

Whenever I feel sad I go reread the two snippets of the Old Flames and imagine crotchety Andreil causing havoc in their young bodies and feel better.
They would have so much fun being old souls in young bodies. Can you imagine the two of them looking at literally any threat to them and it's like "I've paid bills scarier than you"
They forget that being Gay isn't a widely accepted thing and are just explicitly out the entire time and ribbing one another talking about how hard Kevin's going to get #cancelled if he keeps trying to stop them from being openly Gay and in an relationship.
Kevin: Stop publicly making out with my Striker protégée!! Andrew: Now i'm going to make out with him even harder.

Translating Dingo lyrics: ah yes. I can piece this together with my basic grammar knowledge and a lot of google translate. plus I'm learning new words in the process
Translating Käärijä lyrics: yeah this is definitely Finnish. no idea what word it's supposed to be under the 3 layers of dialect and abbreviation. but it's Finnish
#count myself lucky because my finnish teacher is already explaining a lot about like informal speech or alternate pronunciations#but man it's still not enough to understand the boy from vantaa huh#yeah yeah I know i could just look up translations online but i want to understand it myselfff#i'll get there#käärijä#dingo#⚓

Dragoons
Final Fantasy II introduced the iconic character class of the Dragoon.
(As an aside, "dragoon" is actually a mistranslation. The Japanese word is 竜騎士, meaning "dragon knight". A dragoon is, historically, a particular kind of soldier who has a horse to ride for transport, but does not ride a horse in battle. That makes him more mobile than a foot soldier, but cheaper than a cavallerist since he doesn't need a trained war horse. Quite unrelated to how the term is used in English-language Final Fantasy games! But "dragon knight" sounds so generic, and I kind of like the sound of "dragoon", so I still use it.)
The dragoons of FF2 aren't really much like what the class is known for later, either. The trademark "Jump" command doesn't exist yet, and Richard's default weapon is a sword, not a spear. His armor in the original NES game is a generic knight's armor, with a helmet that covers his whole head. The WSC version (published in 2001) has changed Richard's armor into something that looks a lot more like Kain's, with a dragon themed helmet that leaves half his face bare, but that's a retcon after the fact.
What distinguishes FF2 dragoons is that they ride dragons (specifically wyverns). That's their whole gimick! I'm sad that this was dropped in the other games, although I guess it'd be hard to implement in a battle system. FF5 does feature wyverns prominently, but there's no particular connection to the dragoon class.
The playable dragoon character's name in FF2 is Richard, a name that is used in FF4 for Kain's late father, who was also a dragoon. It's a neat reference, but I have seen fans try to twist it into the two Richards being one and the same, and sadly that doesn't work at all. (Even disregarding the fact that the two games, like all main FF games, take place in completely different worlds.)
In FF2, the dragoons and their wyverns lived on the island of Dist, but were massacred by the Evil Empire before the game begins. Richard is the last surviving knight (because he was out of commission while inside Leviathan!). The other two survivors are one wyvern and her egg, and a widow named Elena and her unnamed son. Elena's husband and the boy's father was a dragoon named Philip. Richard does promise to take care of them - presumably to join their family, since they are the last of his people. But he dies during the story before he can make good on that promise. So even if the boy was Kain, as I've seen suggested, the dragoon father he would have remembered would have been Philip, not Richard.
That said, I like Richard. I can imagine it's one of those names that come up again and again within the dragoon community.
#final fantasy ii#dragoons#dragon knights#final fantasy iv#kain ff4 is of course only partly inspired by richard#the other part is leonhart#and i certainly have thoughts about him too#i'll get there

In times of trouble, I sometimes come back to Outer Wilds, thinking about endings and beginnings and my own place in the world. I'm naturally a rather anxious person, although my outward demeanor rarely shows it, and something Outer Wilds helps me with is being okay with loneliness and suffering as it comes.
I'm in a transitional state in my life right now. Safety nets are coming away and the realization that I'm going to have to face the universe, in many ways alone, is terrifying. Outer Wilds is a game about facing down something scary, alone in all the ways that matter, and finding beauty in it. It's also about being okay with things going wrong and accepting that even when it hurts, the beauty doesn't go away.
You can go home any time you like, but it doesn't help solve the problem. Talking to Gabbro, Riebeck, Chert... A comfort. Your worries are something worth being worried about, your discoveries are cherished, and your presence is always welcome. This doesn't solve your problems either; the most you can get is advice. Like it or not, no one but you can live your life.
And Outer Wilds is a game about life. It's about death too, of course, but before you die, you have an awful lot of living to do, scary as it might be. But if you don't live, you don't get to discover new things to love about the world- and there's so, so much to love about the world. Plus, as you learn and grow and change, you come to learn that the world loves you too. The fact that you exist is an act of love. And for all that it's scary, I'm awful glad to be alive.
Thank you Outer Wilds for reminding me of that fact, of how it can always be worse and how even at the end of all things, people will always be people. Living, laughing, loving, and facing down the dark together, even when you can't be with your loved ones in person, even when your elders' hugs can't keep you safe and your friends are scattered beyond your reach.
I'm alive. I'll be okay, at some point. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but I'm alive and so long as that's true, there's always a chance it will get better.
At the heart of it all, living is an act of hope.

Sean telling Marion he's more than what happened to him, more than what people want to exploit from him: that he deserves better. It was an impassioned speech and I believe he genuinely meant it. But he also still betrays Marion to people who would quite directly exploit him, because he has a conflicting objective and he's well practiced in how to hurt people who don't deserve it. Even knowing that if he's successful in his blindside, Marion would be denied all the good things Sean wished for him. Originally I was looking forward to a more direct confrontation between Sean and Marion at the end there so it could get even more deliciously painful, brother against brother, but in a way I think its absence is its own cherry on top of how things fell so beautifully, awfully apart, and how Sean's and Marion's choices and paths diverged (and then merged again in their deaths). But then again, I think at the end of Sean's speech he said something like "I hope you get to pick *you*" and that was indeed Marion's final act: having the opportunity to do what he wanted with his own soul. And while he gave it to someone else, it was still a selfish choice (in a neutral sense) in that Jean wouldn't have wanted him to do it. He did it for himself. He got do what Sean wished for him.
