Advice; Everyone Should Be Making the First Move

There's been a trend within the rpc here for years now where nobody is willing to make the first move. The problem with this is that if nobody ever makes the first move, then nobody is ever going to write anything. Considering that, everybody should be making an effort to be the first one to reach out to their writing partners more often.

Examples of making the first move:

Sending an IM to say hi, then suggesting a plot

Sending a meme to start a new thread

Responding to starter calls and open starters

All of this is just as valid for old partners as it is for new. If you haven't written with someone in a while, maybe it's time to reach out to start a new thread?

The most common reason I see for people not making the first move is social anxiety. I'm going to give you all a bit of tough love here: speaking as somebody who once had crippling social anxiety (and still does in irl settings), the best way to overcome it is to push yourself to try the things that make you anxious.

Communicating with people is a really important part of rp because it's not a solo hobby, therefore you are going to have to talk to people at some point. It's unavoidable. Here are a few reminders to help you feel a little less nervous:

If somebody follows back, they're doing it because they're interested in writing with you. They are not going to be upset if you send them an IM with plot ideas

Most people are friendly! In 12 years of rping on this site, I can count on one hand the number of people who I've talked to that were actively rude to me

It's okay if someone says no to you! People have different styles and not all of them will work together. If someone says no, say thank you for the consideration, then move on. There are more people to write with out there

If somebody is nasty to you, you can block them. Don't be afraid to do this; you don't have to explain yourself, and you wouldn't want to write with someone who's rude to you anyway

If you're not sure what to say, I usually go with a version of "Hello! Thank you for following/following back! I've looked through your rules and about pages. Would you be interested in plotting something for X and my character, Y? I have an idea already, if you would like to hear?"

Don't just say "Hi!". Cut to the chase and tell them why you're messaging so they immediately know what the conversation is about

Reasons why it's good to message first:

You look actively interested in writing. This is a huge boost in your favour when it comes to asking to write with someone

It makes it a lot easier to get new interactions

It makes you appear more active

If you're a new blog, you won't have a lot of examples of your writing on your blog yet. People will be more willing to give you a chance if you approach them first

If you don't message first, you are likely to be waiting a long time before somebody messages you

It's easier to make friends if you have an active conversation!

Some other thoughts on messaging first:

You have followed the person because you are interested in writing with them. Think about why you are interested, and suggest this as a plot idea

Make sure you read through the rules still. It's very obvious when you haven't. Also, look through the muses on offer so you can suggest which you'd like to write with

If the rules say they're not mutuals only, or that you're welcome to IM to introduce yourself if you want to plot, don't be afraid to message. They wouldn't have put that in their rules if they didn't mean it

If someone is reblogging memes, it's because they want to write responses to them. Send them in! If they didn't want them sent in, they wouldn't have reblogged the meme

IMing to plot is often a better idea than liking a starter call or sending memes if you have never interacted with the person before. It gives you a chance to work out what kind of thread would work well before you start something, so the resulting thread has a lower chance of fizzling out quickly

However, all that being said, it's not just up to the person messaging first to make all the effort. If the receiver doesn't put any effort in in return, then the person making the first move is going to think they aren't interested. Eventually, they may give up messaging people at all, because what's the point if it never goes anywhere? Some tips for not seeming uninterested:

If someone IMs you, try to reply to them in a timely fashion. Especially try to reply to them if they sent you a plot idea. You don't have to agree to do the idea - it's just very annoying to be ghosted the second you actually start plotting

Suggest your own plot ideas in return, or build on the idea that the other person has given you

If you agree to write a starter, or one is written for you, follow through with it. Write the starter, reply to the thread. If it's going to take a while, let your writing partner know that you've seen it but you're going to be slow for a while

Similarly, if you post memes, reply to the ones people send you. If you never reply, people will pick up on this and eventually stop sending you things

If you go on hiatus, message your writing partners directly when you get back to let them know you'd like to write again. This will demonstrate that you really are active and ready to write again

This RP will be doing a really deep dive into her backstory, which does contain some trauma and stuff. So uhhhh yeah. The Blue Beam may make a short appearance too. Enjoy! TW: mention of Abuse --------------------------------------------------- You hadn't heard from Evelyn for almost 2 weeks now. This wasn't super unusual, because sometimes she was on a really covert mission or fixated on work. But she always told you when she was gonna disappear. Not always why, but she'd always tell you. And something told you that this was different. You had searched her room, asked the Avengers to keep tabs on her apartment back in North Carolina (her old adoptive parents house), and still nothing. You were getting worried. But you knew that she was strong. [Timeskip to about 1 week earlier] Evelyn had known this day would come someday. The day when her longtime captors would come for her eventually. And catch her. Why did she have to be tired at that moment? All these thoughts rushed through her head as HYDRA scientists surrounded the room and prepared something. She knew what they were going to try to do. Extract the code from her head if she didn't tell them. . "Hello petit fille." Her old handler sneers in her face. God she hated him. The years of harrassment and pain from him clearly showed in her eyes. She stared back up at him, her teal eyes shining with determination. "You know I wont just give you the code." She said, trying to be brave. "Oh we know." Her handler said with a wicked grin, stepping back to let the scientists strap her in. They didn't manage to get the code out of her head, but they managed to wipe all of her memories. Only her HYDRA conditioning remained. Not the Blue Beam, (though HYDRA will call her that) but Evelyn, working for HYDRA. She began doing work almost immediately. Their best assassin now under their control again. [back to normal] You got news from someone on how there was an assassin going around killing people as of late. You groaned. You knew what this meant. She was back, and you couldn't stop her. If you could break through the Blue Beam mind control.... no. This is different. Not the Alter ego. You immediately pack up your stuff, a small backpack and put your suit on to look for her. You find her in an alleyway, just finishing up an assassination. She had her back turned to you, suit in stealth mode (the glowing turquoise on her suit is dimmed to a dark teal) and her hood up. "Evelyn?" You whisper quietly. Hoping somewhere in there she was there. Hello again, everyone!! This is, yet again, a PSA! This time, about something a lot different than the last one I posted.

There's someone making rounds here on tumblr who is called 'the powerscaler'. They're someone who often compares Evillious characters to IRL historical figures, as well as, apparently, other character from different medias.

I've been aware of that person's existance since before I even made my rp blog — They were a bit of a hot topic at the r/evillious subreddit, which I sometimes checked before I used Tumblr as much as I do (I do still check it sometimes though). They often made posts about Riliane specifically, and would compare her to IRL historical dictators, though they were always saying that she "wasn't as bad as them".

This person also has some kind of disagreement with someone called "mariathewitchaddict" (I'm not sure what platform this second person is from, nor am I sure about the nature of their disagreement and what caused it), often mentioning them in their posts.

Recently, 'the powerscaler' has gotten to tumblr, and, with the wave of RP/ask blogs, has been sending strange asks to many of those blogs, such as calculating Riliane's kill count and comparing it to actual historical figures', sent to @/ask-clarith-netsuma, and talking about their personal drama with "mariathewitchaddict", sent to @/malicemaskman, and asks in a similar vein to that first one also were sent to a few of the blogs but they were not publicly answered (example: this one, also sent to @/malicemaskman, after an anon who was definitely not me told the mod of the blog about their reddit history).

Even leaving aside the RP blogs, they have also been seen commenting on ao3 fics about such topics. (Which is why I am, once again, using the main tag for a PSA, aside from bringing in more awareness).

Now, a few of us have also found that a new reddit account is doing something similar, except instead of comparing characters to real historical figures, they're comparing them to Dragon Ball characters, which is... Arguably better. They have also sent asks about said comparisons to a few blogs here on tumblr. We have a suspiscion that it's run by the same person, aka, 'the powerscaler', as they have a history of making multiple reddit accounts. They have also branched out to more characters, such as Nemesis and Seth.

One of the asks sent was this one, comparing Riliane to Vegeta, sent to @/rilianeofevil.

If that is them, however, that means that they are able to and willing to use VPNs in order to circumvent tumblr's anon block system, which works through IP blocking, since they have also sent asks to blogs that have blocked the confirmed 'powerscaler's IP'.

Either way, my best recommendation is to PLEASE block them. We think they might be either genuinely too invested in the comparisons or doing it for attention, so giving them that would be a big mistake. I already debated making this post because I didn't want to give them even more attention, but (with the help of one of the members of the rilianeverse discord server lol), I decided to make this to raise awareness.

I already have them blocked from all 4 of my blogs from when I found their tumblr posts, their account, as far as I know, is @/sadhussus8976. 'Powerscaler', if you're reading this from an alt, I will not hesitate to block it from this blog (and my other ones) as well if you send me anything. ^_^

Scum Villain Flora and Fauna! Treasures!

Hello Tumblr! I have decided to embark on a project. You see, I have the tendency to want to worldbuild, and then universally share this worldbuilding with others, and even have a series on my AO3 here which is dedicated to things I've both compiled and made up wholecloth that I'm happy for whatever fandom it's from to use for their stories, art, and anything else. I even have an entry in there which isn't dedicated to any fandom in particular at all!

I made a new one. It's called the Scum Villain Field Guide.

I intend to go through the SVSSS books and pick out all the plants and animals in it, as well as rewatch the Donghua to do the same and mark any differences in how the creatures are portrayed between the two while elaborating where needed.

What does that have to do with any of you?

Well, firstly, I haven't done much yet so if any of you would like to point out the names of things in the book so I can ctrl+F for it that will make my life a million times easier. Even passing mentions are fine.

However, the SVSSS fandom is filled with inspired, creative people, and I'm not the only one who could have, or has made up my own creatures and plants to suit my purposes. As it is, I'm daunted by going through my old RP threads to find my own creations for this, but I'm going to do so.

All the same! That means that once I have, then those bits of worldbuilding will be free for all of you to use for your work!

And that's the point of this post.

I would like to inquire for all of your plants, animals, and artifacts. You could submit them to me here on my blog, you could private message me about it, you could reblog this or reply to this directly with more information or, yes, even a link to your stories if you want me to just wade into your stuff and figure it out with your permission.

I will be crediting everyone who comes to me (if only by having a link in the compilation itself by your entry), and if you just have a name you made up which has nothing attached to it, I will see about making up what it does and what it's for for you! That's okay!

Hello. I am Doctor Hannibal Lecter, a psychiatrist by profession, though you may have heard of me in other circles — or perhaps only whispered of me. I have decided to establish a presence here, though I cannot say I fully understand the reasoning behind this choice.

A colleague suggested I might find it... enriching, a new platform for interaction. Perhaps there is an element of truth in that. Perhaps this is simply an experiment. Regardless, I find myself here. And, as I am not one to avoid an opportunity for engagement, I will remain for now.

I have a private practice, where I specialize in the most complex of minds, though I am often consulted by various agencies for more... particular matters.

For the curious, I may post about my work, my tastes, and perhaps, from time to time, some more personal reflections. In truth, there is much to consider in the human experience. I will share what pleases me.

To Pure Vanilla, hi! How are you and your friends are doing? If possible to Gingerbrave, Strawberry, and Wizard too, are you guys faring well at the moment?

(I arrived from the main rp blog and interested on seeing how this AU turns out alongside the main one, hopefully it's okay on me asking here too!)

I hope to help Shadow Milk Cooki- …err.. ‘Fount of Knowledge’ in his attempt to remember things, albeit.. making sure he doesn’t stray from the path of truth he seems to be on.. I’m not sure what happened in the past to turn him into the ‘Beast of Deceit’ he was, especially taking into account how polite he is after seemingly reverting to his past self, but.. I want to help him. I want to be his friend, so that maybe.. when he does remember.. he won’t be so lonely anymore.

“You saw his souljam, Wizard Cookie.. it’s not the same anymore.. it almost looks.. new.. as.. uncomfortable I am around him.. I think he’s telling the truth this time around..”
