Bungou stray dogs x Five Nights at Freddy's
Where Mimic (organisation) makes the Mimic (animatronic).
During the war a group of scientists working for Mimic created an AI.
With the goal of becoming a soilder. In order to minimise human casualties and aid the soilders.
It is in the body of a white tiger animatronic.
However, as many of the organisation were still fighting in the war the AI was left behind.
And encounters one of the scientists children, a young boy named Atsushi. Atsushi is shy, sweet and curious about what his parents had been creating.
He starts to visit the AI, naming them Byakko. The two become good friends, the only friend either have.
And because of the amount of time they spent together, Byakko started to mimic Atsushi. Copying him and playing with him.
However, Mimic are outraged when they find out that their killing machine has been turned into a toy.
Atsushi is hurt by his parents, being blamed for what happened. Byakko hears his cries and races to him.
And is outraged.
Attacking the group and trying to keep Atsushi safe. However, the damage is already done and it's too late.
Byakko crawls to Atsushi's side. The anger within them vanishing into greif and they hold Atsushi as he dies.
His soul fusing with their programming.
Byakko killed the scientists and made their escape.
They treck back to the battlefield and and fall back on their programming. But they are also influenced by Atsushi.
And so Byakko is not only fighting and killing but also aiding and protecting the soilders on their side.
Stories of a mysterious white tiger sweeping across the battlefield start to become common place.
Some thought it was a diety, others thought it was an ability but no one knew what it was.
Or why it was helping them.
Mimic (the soilders now) recognise Byakko as being one of there scientists creations.
And thus when they flee because... War crimes, they capture Byakko and and take them with them.
Byakko is trapped in a cage, the room they're in being sealed. Byakko and Atsushi are kept prisoner for many many years.
They are only found again when Ango comes across them. During his time at Mimic, they get to know him.
Who promises they'll be released... Unfortunately that means that they are handed over to the Government.
Right into the hands of Ouchi Fukuchi, who had heard tale of the mysterious white tiger during the Great war.
But it's not Byakko he wants, but Atsushi.
Somehow knowing that the boy resides within the beast. And is the one who can guide him to the book.
Byakko, pissed the fuck off and protective over Atsushi is unfortunately unable to stop him.
Because let's be real here, they haven't been able to get any maintance in many years.
It's a miracle they can stand up.
They are tortured until Atsushi's soul is bought to the surface. He's in control now, and he's terrified.
Because the last time Atsushi was wondering about in a physical form... He died.
Atsushi has no idea what this book is or how to find it. He's kept in a prison and unfortunately because they contain a soul, both of them can feel pain.
Byakko is pissed the fuck off and doing all they can to comfort Atsushi.
When someone walks into their cell, Byakko growls and tries to stop them from approaching.
"Are you alright? Don't worry, I will get you out of here."
Atsushi and Byakko are very sceptical about this man. Especially given no ones ever truly cared for them.
But this man, Fukuzawa seems trustworthy.
He mentions Ango, and how he told his Agency about what happened to them. And that he is here to set them free.
Atsushi decides to trust him. Arguing that they know nothing of the outside world and they need allies.
Byakko, knows he's right and thus agrees but they are on high alert. They've been hurt and used by humans too much.
Their cell opens and they both stand up on rusted legs, no matter how hard it is to go forward they do so anyway.
For the first in a long time, they are free.

I understand how Mimic happened because a gaggle of other nine year olds and I formed a pagan cult on the playground in response to Hurricane Katrina.

Sakaguchi Ango, the “lack of identity from having to constantly keep check of what he’s doing and who he’s spying on and how to keep from forming attachments” motherfcker, the “betrayed the only people who could’ve truly loved him because they met in these brief lapses inbetween their inevitable fates where they could truly just relax and be with each other” bitch, the “stuck with the ability to relive memories so he is both drowning in other people’s histories further alienating him from himself but he also has to relive having to cut out the only true thing he’s ever had” piece of shit, the “Still cares for Dazai and Oda, years down the line, still helps Dazai and the ADA using a Port Mafia communication technique even though Dazai nearly killed him because Ango knows the bomb was planted because of his role and its a violent action done out of Dazai losing someone he loved because sometimes violence is the only love they can share, and yet they both loved Oda so much he knows that helping Dazai and the ADA would be what Oda would’ve truly wanted” trashbag, the–

Okay but like, now that I’m thinking about it, wouldn’t it be hilarious if Chuuya wasn’t around in Dark Era because for the first time in his life he was on vacation?
He gets permission to have a few weeks off, going to Europe to hang with Adam and visit some wineries. He’s having a great time, finally able to relax.
Comes back and the PM has a coveted Special Abilities Business Permit but Dazai’s gone with no trace, Dazai’s drinking buddies are either turned traitor or dead, his car explodes when he tries to leave the airport, and everyone’s scrambling to pick up Dazai’s projects so there’s even more work than before.
Chuuya decides he can never go on vacation again.

i’m actually distraught over the difference between how dazai talks to akutagawa vs how he talks about him
#yes i’m posting this dark era excerpt again. it changed me#today's thought is: akutagawa sacrificing the mimic information to save dazai’s subordinates#and getting severely punished for it#then later we see him choosing to sacrifice his subordinate (kyouka) instead for the sake of the train mission#but because dazai has switched to the side of light and atsushi exists he’s punished for that too#i'm SO miserable... akutagawa had the protector literally beaten out of him#and now the person that did it looks down on him for not utilizing his ability to protect others#which gets extra painful when you remember dazai sent him to die in a fight he couldn’t win. sighs#bsd reread

I have a question for you guys.
I was rewatching Yosano's backstory episode (and cried again. what of it?) but something this time caught my attention.
In the scene where Fukuzawa and Mori are fighting and Fukuzawa angrily tells him his plans "lack humanity"... is the word they both use... not "kokoro"?
It would appear to be, from this manga translation. If that really is the choice of word, that's really interesting, because one of irl Natsume-sensei's most well-known books is the novel Kokoro.
What does this mean? Is Mori really following the plan Natsume laid out for them? Is he derailing from the initial plan with the exclusion of "heart/humanity"? Did Natsume intend for "heart" to be sacrificed in the name of defense? Or is this conflict, with "heart" at the center, exactly what Natsume needed for this plan to work?
And on Mori's end: this isn't his usual cold, impeccable logic. This is anger that Fukuzawa is getting in the way. More than that, it almost seems to me like Mori has a paranoid streak. Check this out here:
To be quite honest with you, Mori sometimes makes weird calls that imo aren't the best decisions - and they're all out of some fear he has, typically over the protection of the city and the country. Mori's takeover of the Port Mafia is seen as overall a good thing - because the previous boss grew increasingly paranoid and started ordering unnecessary violence, something Mori himself wishes to avoid whenever possible. Yet his projection onto Dazai causes issues during the Mimic incident - sure it was logically sound, but he lost Dazai for it. Was it really then the best solution there was? And what about Yosano - so caught up in what she could prove and what she meant for the war effort that he failed to consider her taking drastic action out of sheer despair? It's interesting that Mori, who advises others on not letting their fears and emotions get in the way of strategy, is prone to the same thing at times. Might he get worse at this kind of miscalculation? It'd be altogether kind of tragic if he messes up later in the story out of paranoia, considering his predecessor's legacy...
Edit: I changed the last bit, as it's left somewhat unclear if part of Mori's reasoning in the whole Mimic incident was to get Dazai away from him - in fact, it's likely that wasn't the case at all and Dazai was just saying this to intentionally get under his skin. Unfortunately I am a bit of dumbass who misinterpreted this line on first read, and now read it differently:
He's sticking with the logicality of it - one person's life for a gifted business permit is a worthwhile sacrifice, even if it drove away his right hand man. Either way, whether it's projection (Dazai is just like me, so he'll understand) or paranoia (he is going to inevitably kill me someday - which is still kinda projection imo) or some combination of the two - I think the original point still stands: maybe focusing all your efforts on ensuring you're always prepared for some eventuality or other means you overlook things you deem less important or irrelevant. Maybe removing heart from your decisions... isn't actually the best call in the end.
#bsd#bsd meta#i suppose?#bsd fukuzawa#bsd mori#does this make sense? i can't read#storyrambles#the updated version with me actually properly rereading this bit wheeeeee thank you nawy for pointing that out#i had always assumed it was both motives to some degree but now i'm inclined to think it isn't#either is intriguing in its own way to play with though#mori arranging the mimic incident thinking that dazai would agree with his logic and failing to consider his emotions: way more interesting#especially character wise (also more canon)#mori arranging the mimic incident to in part get rid of dazai only to immediately regret it two seconds later: WAY funnier#anyways sorry for my mistake here everyone i hope this clarifies it#also i hope this updated post actually shows up#sigh

okay but ada dazai is so pretty princess vibe and prison dazai is so cat vibe. pre-dark era dazai is also cat vibe but not in the silly way but in the haunted way. dark era and beast dazai are both bastard vibe but in a tragic way and in the most affectionate way possible. the peak of dazai’s pretty princess vibe was during dead apple.
#this is the extent of character analysis you can expect from me#pre dark era dazai cat vibe can be silly sometimes but it is always haunted. prison dazai cat vibe can be haunted but is always silly.#tbh most of these can be applied to any era but some eras give off more of that certain vibe#like I’m sorry but prison dazai hasn’t been serving pretty princess for a while :/ maybe it’s the lack of trench coat or maybe I just don’t#see the vision rn. he kinda always give bastard vibe and maybe I’m too harsh by applying that vibe to dark era Dazai buuuuut I’m always#thinking about that one scene where he asks the mimic assassin to shoot him in front of oda and then I’m back at bastard vibe#because yeah that’s my lil tragic bastard guy! :(#is this coherent? are any of these words in the bible? tune in next week to find out#bungou stray dogs#bungo stray dogs#bsd#dazai osamu#bsd dazai

houyi ..... i think i love all my bsd ocs on a degree that has me frightened
#tbd.#zhang linghe the man that you are#the bsd universe is my fav to explore at the moment and singularities are so interesting to me#i like what i did with houyi because as a gravity manipulator is manifests differently and links with his singularity#and his main goal right now is to find and reprimand ability user and singularity host paul verlaine#for his crimes and both because his organisation wants further testing and experimentation because the rumour has spread#that his previous singularity is GONE and he was given ANOTHER#which should not be possible from previous research#and houyis whole thing is he wants to be rid of his singularity or wants a better way to control it#that is completely his own#houyi killed his own original host to establish himself as the “original” being but he knows he isnt and it haunts him#my BABBYYYYYYY#he's the epitome of that “hey thats a nice random quirk youve got there. mind if i mimic it to appear human?”#and the thing is he switches so often between. im human. and IM A GOD.#and i think his original timeline thing stems from wanting to be human and then accepting the fact that he is a god#well. the vessel of one. but it is that it exists WITHIN HIM. but GGRRRFFFF#he doesnt smoke cigarettes but lights them and holds them between his fingers because thats what people do#he wonders that if he likes the colour yellow is that because he likes it? or because the researcher who input his coding#wanted him to like yellow. or did they like yellow.#i love him actually and ive yet to write him but hes there. in my mind. all the time#i think about him sooooo often#he has so many opportunities for threads and plots#gggrrrfff bark bark#will say. as someone who enjoys to a degree that is terridying the blade runner movies#he is very k coded from blade runner 2049 and also. insaaaaanely roy batty#i think i wrote it in his notes that houyi will kill his creator too#like all the rest of them have <3 some indirectly but#houyi makes the choice to kill her after i think a brief discussion on her decision to make him and the fact he always saw her#as more than just his maker#but to her he means so little .... mm roy batty it GIIIIIIVES <3
