;-- gm friendly reminder that i don't ship noctis x lunafreya romantically. and this isn't me hating on the ship or anything bc it's cute but i didn't get enough vibes from them throughout my own playthrough for me to personally ship it. i see them more as childhood friends that tried dating once but it didn't work out though they continued being close. noctis would turn to luna to talk about stuff every now and then especially when there is conflict with the boys, asking for advice and whatnot. they would go out shopping together at times and walk pryna and umbra to a dog park for some quality time.

@lunaetis has chosen my favorite AU for a starter, which is also old as shit. ( for Tifa )
Noctis hadn’t been down under the plate in a while, busy keeping up with Mr. Tuesti’s paperwork and other things, while also maintaining his own health. Midgar was so hard to live in, the constant pollution and Mako production, but living on the Plate was so much better for him than living underneath it, despite making him closer to the planet.
So his trips were less frequent of late, but finally he’d had a chance to wander underneath and follow the planet’s directions to where he was needed most. Today it happened to be closer to the disk wall surrounding the city, as close as he could get to the Wastelands without stepping foot outside the city. He’d not been trained to fight, his only lessons outside what normal children would get were how to blend in and help keep the planet alive.
He did as much as he could while going unnoticed, occasionally having to stop and hide if a patrol or passerby took too much interest in him. Initially Noctis thought that he was doing well, breathing some life back into the soil beneath him. That was until he tried to stand to return to his home, no strength in his legs to support him sending him crashing back down to unyielding earth.
It was embarrassing to be sure, but it meant he could stay and listen to the pleased voice from the planet, small thanks and regrets that the task would fall to her children to help her survive until the Promised Day.
Tumblr media
“ It is no trouble, mother. I am just sorry that I could not do more. “ Noctis keeps his voice quiet, best to seem like a crazed man talking to himself than a Cetra speaking to the planet. He would continue with his conversation, quiet as he could, hoping that at the very least, someone would just walk by and not help.
Perhaps today was the day not to wear nice clothing… though he hadn’t exactly planned on sitting in the dirt until he could walk again.

Hello! Thanks for reading. This is part of a collection of head-canon postings I wanted to make regarding my current fanfic’s universe and lore. The fanfic takes place in an altered omen!verse, along with bits and bobs from the alternate ending of Episode Ignis, as well as when FFXV was still Verses XIII. I’ve always been super fascinated by the Omen trailer, and what would have to occur for said trailer to end up happening. Also, I deserve to be self-indulgent. This is a VERY personal, non-factual imagining of my own headworld regarding FFXV and is really not meant to be taken as a legit theory. Please don’t come for me I’m just a nerd.
——
The origins of the Six, as gods of the Cosmogony are murky at best given the lore we’re exposed to within the game, only giving us bits and pieces through Noctis’ eyes. However, a theory I’ve always liked and enjoyed is the idea that the Six are not innate protectors of only Eos, but have traveled to and fro from various worlds and planets, where they deem themselves needed, or perhaps out of necessity.
It’s been stated I believe, by a few producers and directors, that FFXV, FFX, and FFVII all take place within the same universe. (FFXIII is probably in here too, but I’m not done playing the series lol)  It’s never really been truly elaborated too much about what this means, or in what way. A popular speculation is that all of these games are within the same universe but, different planets. We see, in the only opportunity we really have in the ruined Insomnia that both Spira, and Shinra are mentioned. It could of course, be written off that these are just winks for final fantasy fans, and implications, I however like the idea that FFX, and FFVII are different instances of the same planet, different time periods.
I present to you this idea FFVII’s Midgar, is in fact XV’s ancient city of Solheim.
I don’t particularly have any hard evidence for this, mind you, just a collection of loose brain worms that have been clunking around in my mind since XV’s release.
For my fanfic, the first human, upon whom Ifrit bestowed his gift of fire to, was a longstanding predecessor of Rufus Shinra, and that it is remnants of Shinra’s technology, that form the civilization of Solheim.
And thus, this introduces us to the real meat of our head-canon/theory, where the six come into play. We see the Six deities, Ifrit, Shiva, Leviathan, Bahamut, Ramuh, and Titan appear as materia summons in Final Fantasy VII initially. The timeline for FFXV calls the period of Solheim, the Cosmogony, the Age of Myth, so let’s start there.
Tumblr media
THE AGE OF MYTH
I’ve always been a big fan of the idea that the scourge was something infecting the planet, perhaps due to the gods themselves. A lot of people posit that the gods traveled from world to world, and while I like this idea, I imagine gods spend quite a long time on their particular world, and that civilizations don’t particularly seem all that long to them. Shiva and Bahamut in the 2nd FFXV Comic Anthology compare humans to flowers, and state that they’ll only grow if cultivated correctly like particularly grouchy botanists.
Tumblr media
I believe the Six and their messengers and minor deities arrived in a similar fashion to Jenova (I have another head-canon post planned bearing the similarities between the Goddess Eos from Verses, and Jenova and think that they MAY be one and the same)
Tumblr media
they both got lil weird wings. lol The gods are quite eldritch and almost unfathomable in their states in XV, which is one of the things I really like about the series, and I like the idea that the parts of them we see, are in fact their true forms. The summons in VII are more minor forms of the Six that we know and love, perhaps like the way grecian gods interacted with the world around them in their own myths.
It’s loosely possible, that this was the the beginning of the starscourge, and that even directly interacting with minor forms of the Six could transmit the parasite known  as Plasmodium that causes the scourge. We’re shown in XV that even interacting with the gods for long periods of time had detrimental effects on Luna’s health, and that was her whole bloodline’s purpose. Who’s to say ancient Midgar/Solheim stood a chance.
However, as Shinra became more more corrupted, and post advent children the more these magical crystals or Materia were used for humankind’s own ends. Ifrit believed this to be a betrayal of mankind, and was a denial of the sacred bond between humans and their deities, thus igniting the war that struck FFVII’s world to ruin, the gods warred over this, and eventually slept to allow themselves a clean slate. Jenova, or Eos, was then imprisoned in what we know as Pitioss.
Afterwards, the gods then slept, awakening next to bestow the ring upon the Lucis Caelum line some centuries later.

I do have a question for Heid that is somewhat linked to Melissa - but how does he feel re. being a father to girls and then getting to be a father to a boy (Carwyn)? Is there something in him from that old-fashioned view that having a boy is 'better' than a girl, particularly considering Heid's own father and the environment he was brought up in?
random headcanon asks | always accepting.
aw MAN, why did i sit on this for so long bby?
i think that when heidegger had his first girl - it was that initial shock of being a new father you know? i'd imagine he'd have wanted a boy, purely because he would have felt like "shit, i don't know anything about women-" but i think upon having a little girl, he was late twenties/early thirties and was pretty much primarily blown away by the idea of simply being a father. gender wasn't really a factor too much.
i think when he had his second daughter, he was a little relieved. 'okay, i've done this once - i think i can do it again'. he wasn't mad about not having a son, but i certainly think he would have always wanted one.
now - i think as a younger man, had heidegger have had a son. he'd have been military raised. i think this for a few reasons; for one, his alliance with shinra is SO strong that he'd have wanted his kid to essentially have become rufus' best friend / right-hand. i think, in a selfish way, he'd have seen his son as a means of getting cosier and being in better favour with shinra and co. i also think that the two would have gotten plenty of military bonding aka the relationship he has with @chosenbythecrystal's noctis in our ffvii verse and somewhat similar to his relationship with @cinderella-gurei's chadley.
h o w e v e r -
when it comes to our baby boy carwyn ( and i say OUR because he's our bby lol ) - i always said with mel/heid and their son, that their son would be entirely away from that military lifestyle and i think the main reason for this is -
mel's influence of heid; her mellowing him so much and teaching him that life is not the military and those two getting their happy ending, like - he appreciates and is so content with that, that he has that learning experience of 'my son doesn't have to be military to have a good life.' in this verse, heid acknowledges that he never got the choice as a young man and ultimately - / wants/ - carwyn to have the choice that he didn't get. melissa is a huge influence in this and also in heid not wanting his son to go into the military. he loves melissa. like, really loves her. and the idea of their son going off to a war of being brutally injured is never something he'd want to see himself/melissa (mainly) go through. so, he avoids it all together by pushing the military influence off of his son.
the second reason is the timeline - they have carwyn around shinras downfall and after heid's near-death experience, i think he finally (FINALLY) realises that the war just isn't worth it. his son ( kids, love etc ) are worth more than a company that is ultimately dying / dead. he just wants to be happy with his family.
i think regarding his father's influence on his attitude to having a boy etc - there's some fear there. in a strange way. this goes into very sad territory, but as a child heid was beaten by his father and generally treated like a show pony rather than a child. he was paraded around to wealthy friends of the family but was not loved at all at home. he was terrified of his father, too. and i think - heidegger now looks so much like his father and understand the similarities between the two of them that he has that fear of becoming that way with his own son.
y'know? i could see heid being overly gentle with his son. he's scared to touch him too roughly, scared to hold him - he's overly cautious and it's probably noticeable. he does not want to be the reflection of his father. in a way, it perhaps makes him even softer with his son. all in all, the influence of his own father has the opposite effect of how he treats his own son. he's overly gentle and sweet to him as not to reflect the nightmare of his own upbringing.

ffvii verse: ignis works for the shinra cooperation but he's actually a mole for the lucis caelum company, which is working for a renewable energy resource.
he's decently high up in the company, and knows quite a few secrets, which he ready passes over to his bosses.
ignis get injured during a fight with the turks, trying to protect noctis as they found out he was a mole. he never did give away where he originally worked for. he lied and said he got injured by a midgar zolom.

alright some minor verses details for youta below
ffvii
as one of the last known cetra ( the other being aerith ), youta has isolated himself both to protect his bloodline and to stay out of the reaches of shinra and specifically hojo
having previously been hiding, the turks eventually tracked him down and took him to hojo to be experimented on where he met cloud and zack. while his cetra bloodline was unknown to shinra before them, it quickly became apparent when the mako injected into him had no affect. as such, they preformed many additional tests and injected him with numerous jenova cells. instead of turning into a monster though, he gained something akin to immortality and a small amount of telepathy.
he had helped cloud and zack escape, though he fled on his own soon after as to avoid being caught again by others. as such, he's unaware of what happened to them
after these events he settled at the junon for a small amount of time until shinra came in, causing him to settle at the chocobo ranch instead. during this time he realized that he was now immortal, or at least aged incredibly slowly as he physically didn't look past 24 when he was first captured by the turks, though this is yet to be proven as not enough time has passed for him to be totally certain
the small amount of telepathy he has allows him to talk to the chocobos, though he can use it with willing humans as well. he doesn't for obvious reasons, but he can
because of this and also because of his cetra ancestry, the area around the ranch flourishes with foliage and many different types of plant life
persona
a college student that formed a bond with akira after making a deal with him. in exchange for akira helping him find a way to pay for his mother's hospital bills, youta teaches him how to grow various plants with numerous beneficial effects, as well as discounts at rafflesia
as a bioscience major, he's attending a prestigious university on a full ride scholarship. however, he might have to give it up in order to pay for his mother's hospital bills instead as well as take care of his two younger siblings in case anything happens to their mother. however during all this, he has a looming deadline for an incredibly important project that could propel his career forward, which could eliminate any of his monetary struggles if he succeeds. unable to choose what to do, he holds the hanged man arcana.
should he instead be a persona user, his starting persona is konohanasakuya-hime ( shortened to sakuya-hime ) and his awakened persona is fjörgyn. by maxing out his confidant, akira can summon / create gaia
as for persona 4, the same things apply but instead of being at tokyo, youta returns home to inaba to care for his mother / family while he's on break
demon slayer
could've sworn I had this written down somewhere but anyways he's the nature hashira ( a style derived from water breathing, and what flower and subsequently insect breathing stem from )
his weapon of choice is his polearm, and his techniques focus more on defense and poisoning / keeping his enemies back instead of pure offense.
this being said, he is among one of the strongest users of nature breathing that has existed, and he can kill high ranking demons should he have to go all out defense
ffxv / xvi
a member of the crownsguard / the undying respectfully
mostly focuses on intel gathering and recon, but is willing to help noctis / joshua out in combat if they need his help
besides his polearm, he has an affinity for using magic as well. though he must make his own spells as he doesn't have the capabilities to naturally use magic, so he's also a rather skilled spell / potion maker ( though he keeps the latter a closely gaurded secret in xvi for obvious reason )

Noctis and Prompto run away, maybe after Prompto gets pregnant? The crown and Cloud are freaking out, probably checking more Noctis oriented places they could have gone first. Then, maybe Cloud is trying not to break down in Prompto's room and he just realizes where they may have gone. They had gone to the Chocobo farm, and didn't realize Wiz knew who they were. He wasn't going to specifically contact the crown, but he was going to make sure they were safe.
So the thing is while Cloud is also freaking out he’s also very much putting the blame of this onto the Crown. It’s their fault his son has run away. They put too much expectation on the relationship or had too much doubt about it. They made them feel unsafe enough to think running away without telling anyone was their only option.
A bit of it is his own misplaced doubt as to why Prompto, at least, didn’t tell Cloud about their plan. Maybe he let too much of his own fear and distrust about the crown’s power into his conversations with Prompto about the relationship. Maybe he’s pushed his son to flee.
And while there is a part of him that wonders if he should respect the clear want of both of them not to be found he also needs to make sure that his son is okay. So he will go to check, alone, and if they do want no contact with anyone from their old lives he will respect it and not tell anywhere where they are upon returning to the city.
Honestly Prompto loves living with the Chocobos. And Noctis loves that he can spend so much of his time fishing. It’s a lot quieter life but there’s still some excitement between the Chocobos and Daemons and general other predators around. So it’s really nice for them and they don’t really want to go back to the Crown City and all the expectation and pressure there.
Prompto is happy to see Cloud when Cloud shows up. But then he remembers that he left without saying anything so then he’s bracing for Cloud to be angry at him (and accepting that he would probably deserve it if Cloud was). Cloud’s just glad that Prompto’s okay and happy even if he does also want to know why Prompto didn’t feel safe telling him of the plan.
Honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if Cloud didn’t end up moving kind of close by. 1. Because he likes Chocobos as well; 2. Because he wants to be near his son if he needs him. It isn’t like right on top of them though because he recognises they need space but probably like... 20-30 minutes drive away. It’s not like there’s anything that is tying him down to Insomnia without Prompto there anyway.

No one, and I mean no one is going to believe Cloud!Prompto is adopted. Blue eyed kid that is incredibly strong, designed a unique sword, created a sword style,  and willing to go after Mariliths for the prince? People are going to think Cor hid him until he was good enough to protect himself from Cor's enemies.
Me: Yes, yes that. XD. Cor and Co are just- Surprised_Pikachu.jpg when everyone doesn’t even QUESTION Prompto’s existence beyond who the mother was and “when Cor met her”.
They roll with it because Perfect Cover Story but they are just- so surprised.
Honestly people either think Cor hid his family for security reasons until something happened to the mother or that the mother had custody and Cor didn’t KNOW about his kid until something happened to her and he was contacted as the next-of-kin for Prompto or something. Cor rolls with it because it’s a good cover that everyone believes but that doesn’t mean he isn’t confused. And an Emotion.
The day some socialite coos at Prompto during a formal event that he “looks so much like his father” Cor is going to straight up DIE inside. Prompto just nods solemnly and quietly scoots away and everyone in the vicinity will nod sagely about how he is “definitely just like his father, despite having his mother’s coloring”.
Also if we assume that freckles and blond hair is a Niflheim thing like I’ve seen floating around the fandom, then people are gonna assume Cor never mentioned having a wife/never talks about Prompto’s mom because she was a NIF. Either a Nif spy Cor tragically had to kill after they had a fling that produced Prompto or a spy for Lucis that was descended of Nif refugees who got killed while undercover in Niflheim and that’s why Cor had to finally take open custody of his son.
Aka the media is happily losing their minds over the Totally-Blood-Son-of-The-Immortal and Prompto is NOT helping the rumors by being his solemn, stabby, prodigy self.

                                    FINAL FANTASY VII
Noctis is a member of AVALANCHE, having traveled to Midgar after abandoning his home of Insomnia when he was around sixteen. a natural rebel, Noctis didn’t want to be burdened with the responsibility of taking over his father’s, Regis’s, company. business and politics were never things he was particularly strong suited in. besides, his father was well capable of remaining head of the company for some years to come so the raven thought scarcely of it.             it had taken him a long time before he stumbled upon Midgar one day, having stumbled into the place after suffering fatal wounds from a fight with some particularly nasty fiends. He had no idea how he managed to survive the attack, but when he woke up, he found himself in the presence of one Tifa Lockhart. she explained to him what she could of his arrival and offered to let him stay while he recovered. he accepted the offer and has been in Midgar ever since.             it took a while for Noctis to join up with AVALANCHE, but he had been pretty persistent and had proven how capable he could be with training and discipline. but it’s been about three years now and he’s gotten to know almost everyone in Midgar. he’s pretty close to some of the members of AVALANCHE as well. though, more specifically, Tifa. she easily became one of his closer friends after having spent so much time together.             Noctis favors using his Engine Blade as his choice weapon and is pretty useful in using Materia. he gives off a stoic and closed off persona but he’s really a nice guy deep down that cares about Midgar and the planet. not too particularly fond of ShinRa or any other unsavories he comes across. he’s kind of a stick it to the man kind of guy. he comes off as a bit of a pushover but he’s most definitely more then capable of kicking ass and taking names with the best of them.

;-- also ive decided that in my modern verse will i exclusively ship ONLY with @.excultum's gladio and ignis. it is a poly relationship between all four of our boys. i will be basing my headcanons on their headcanons, and anything mentioned in threads will be a directed callback to their muses if brought up.
noctis and prompto are single and ready to mingle in their "canon" and ffvii verses.

Nickname: Little Light. ( father only ) Race: Cetra ( full-blooded ) Age: 20 Temporary Home: Midgar Apartment.
Noctis has been hearing the calls of the planet for as long as he could remember. As a child, he needed to be taught how to listen to its cries and tend to it, so that he would not unintentionally alert others as to what exactly he was. Where most of the remaining Ancients had children with those that had fallen from the path, given up the migratory ways that made the Cetra who they were, his parents had chosen one another. Both Cetra but very careful to ensure they would not be found out, Noctis’ mother is unknown to him as three of them living together would be far too dangerous for them to attempt.
The older he got, the more he had to tend to the planet that Shin-Ra was sucking dry. To that end he would choose to make his home, however temporary it would be until the need to move again came to him, in Midgar. But one thing he’d not necessarily anticipated was the sheer amount of money he’d need to live on the disk instead of under it. He’d take odd jobs until he could afford the down payment on an apartment, before actually looking for a real job.
At the age of 18, he was given a place at Shin-Ra, nothing that would allow him to travel easily like he’d been aiming for, but instead, he was a secretary. Urban Development was a fairly easy place to work, and he could keep an eye on the plans to potentially harm the planet. And all things considered, Mr. Tuesti wasn’t the worst boss he could have gotten. Better than Ms. Scarlet or Mr. Heidegger.
All he had to do was keep away from the labs, and he would be relatively fine.

About the FanFic ask meme: how about E and/or J for The Basis of Reality?
E: If you wrote a sequel to [insert fic], what would it be about? Hmm, this is tricky because I deliberately wrote The Basis of Reality to be... idk if "curtain fic" is quite the right phrase, but certainly with the intent of having everything wrapped up.
That said, at a basic level there are a few ways a sequel could go. First would be exploring how content released in "our" reality after the fic is set (which is prior to the Royal Edition's release) affects the game world. Maybe Dawn of the Future tries to impose itself on the game world, but since Luna is already alive and well, things start to go horribly wrong.
Another possibility would be Ignis (and/or one or more of the other bros) getting pulled back into "our" reality for some reason. Maybe Taku tells his team what happened, and they want to meet the bros, but pulling them into "our" reality causes problems.
After the release of FFVII: Remake, I noodled briefly over an especially crack-y idea based on that game's wild ending: essentially, a repeat of Ignis's situation except with post-Nibelheim Sephiroth. This option would involve Sephiroth being sent through the Lifestream to Kate's doorstep immediately after his jump into the Nibel reactor. Essentially, the Lifestream is asking Kate to physically heal Sephiroth as well as patch his mind back together. Despite her experience with Ignis, she's even less prepared to deal with Sephiroth of all people, but manages it. This Sephiroth is then the version which seems to be interfering with the plot in Remake - i.e. the "ore" Sephiroth from the ending who seems to be trying to change things. In other words, in this sequel 'verse, the Remake was supposed to be wholly faithful to the original - but then a sane Sephiroth with full knowledge of the Compilation comes along to fuck things up.
An especially hilarious sequel option would be one where a version of Noctis from one of the crossover games, like Dissidia, manages to fall into the Reality 'verse. The bros have to go crossover-hopping to help him get back to not just the crossover game he came from, but his actual home 'verse. Likely to result in the bros landing in such exciting games as Super Smash Bros, Assassin's Creed, and Tomb Raider, among other things. XD
J: Write or describe an alternative ending to [insert fic].
Hah, I actually do have a whole alternate ending written out for The Basis of Reality! However it's really bad, which is why it got scrapped. XD If you really want to see it, though, have a snippet below the cut:
(Ask me stuff?)
Lunafreya said calmly, “The Starscourge will end. But not at the cost of more lives.” She paused, and in that pause she seemed to magnify, to multiply, dozens of Oracles behind her, each holding a trident and ablaze in golden light—Not dozens, Ignis realized distantly. One hundred and thirteen, one Oracle for each King of Lucis. When Lunafreya spoke again, the voices of the hundred and thirteen past Oracles spoke with her, a chorus of burning golden power: “The people have spoken. The gods must listen. The gods will listen.”
“You would risk all for the sake of one man,” Bahamut spat. Even as he spoke, the golden light that was Lunafreya moved, the Oracles of the past spreading out, forming a circle around what had to be the edges of the vortex Prompto saw. They gestured with their tridents in unison, and a web of magic arched out, lining the edges of the vortex as if to fence it in. No—not fence it in, Ignis realized suddenly. As if to hold it open.
Lunafreya raised her arm, and her ancestors raised theirs, too. One hundred fourteen tridents slammed on the marble floor in unison. “Kings of Lucis!” Lunafreya - the Oracles - called. “Come to me!”
This time, the glaives of the Lucii did not plunge from the sky. Instead they rose up from within the vortex, swirling around Ignis and the others before slamming into the floor. Blue flames erupted from the vortex and joined the glaives: the Lucii, recognizable in outline only - but this time, there was one more.
The Founder King stood at the center of the semicircle, and beside him, mirroring him, stood a new Lucii. Smaller, less heavily armored than most of the others, he wore a sash over his chestplate, and from his helm stretched the hornlike crown of Lucis.
Noctis.
Bahamut said angrily, “You have failed, Chosen. Not only does the Scourge remain, but you have released it once more upon this Star.” Ignis frowned, looking closer - and then he saw it, a shadow lurking behind the Founder King. It was roiling and poisonous, and reeked of daemon miasma beneath the electric scent of the Lucii’s magic. The strange magic vision which allowed him to see the Lucii didn’t cast shadows, but even if it had, it was obvious that was no simple shadow. The Founder King did not command the Scourge—
But his brother did.
Ardyn Izunia, Starscourge incarnate, had returned from the spirit realm alongside the Lucii.

Verse: FF VII
Noctis Lucis Caelum was a trained Cetra warrior, from a proud line. One of a very few of their warriors, expert in communing with the Lifestream and drawing it into the shape of materia with their thoughts and emotions.
He was there when Jenova fell, when she approached the Cetra...and for the ensuing battle with the Calamity. While grievously injured, his companions still fighting a losing battle, he lay down in the Lifestream and drew it around his body; a last ditch effort to create a powerful Materia with his heart and memories that could defeat her.
The intensity of his desire and vision was mismatched with the strength left in his body, however, and he stayed encased in crystal for many years; until the voices of the Planet cried out at the passing of Aerith the last Cetra.
With fear in his heart, he woke, crystal shattering, the ring prepared for his materia glowing with new power...and he entered a world entirely devoid of his people; even their enemy now vanquished.
And worst of all his memories, the last remnants of Cetran culture are fuzzy and vague at best; worn thin by their use for power, and by centuries encapsulated in crystal...he’s now left to make his way in the world.

Honestly, the real point of that was just imagining Cloud with Baby Prompto on his hip. Imagine toddlers Prompto and Noctis, where Cloud and Prompto pass by Noctis and he and Prompto are just very excited to see another baby, lol.
Honestly I wish I could draw because Cloud with Baby Prompto on his hip is like an image that is absolutely amazing and I wish I could show it to others.
Oh yes Prompto and Noctis always light up when they see each other because “oh another baby!” and it normally causes people to laugh because it’s so innocent and sweet. The stare at each other whenever they’re around like they’re trying to figure each other out and twist to keep watching each other until they no longer can.
