It's been almost a week since Yancy took Donovan out for coffee and back to his car at the theater, and the man has hardly left the mob boss' mind. Keeping in touch with texts, not wanting to come on too strongly. It's been nice, though. Donovan is... sweet. Shy. Yancy wants to experience more, to reach the limit of his light, and go further. He could be patient.

It's also been about a week since Cody went missing. Alibis were firmly in place. He was with Donovan part of the night and had a meeting in the early morning. Complete with people across the pond willing to vouch for him, while Paulie and Bam Bam spliced together a video that would have time stamps that looked legitimate. The police couldn't even be sure when the scumbag went missing, especially when those police are also on his payroll.

Yancy played the part: Did you call those lawyers, little faun? Has he bothered you at all? He hasn't been around? Oh, dear. It's sad, but he's clearly troubled. All while knowing he was chopped into several bits and disposed of like the trash he was.

And now, Yancy is heading to the studio to participate in ballet practice, of all things. He's genuinely looking forward to it, and he is practically buzzing with energy at being able to see his little faun again. Parking his car, he makes his way inside, duffel bag slung over his shoulder and looking like he usually does when he hits the gym.

For the rest of the week, he moves through with almost no sensation of what he’s doing. Slow movements, going through the motions of his days. Work, fussing over his mother, and the lawyers. Donovan can feel the sticky leather on his skin still, as the lawyer explains in her softest voice what’s going to happen. Miss De Luca tells him to write down as much as he can about Cody; when they started dating, why, and each incident he can bear to remember. He’s sick after the meeting, clutching a bowl and sobbing for the rest of the night. He hasn’t heard from Cody in a week.

For the first few days of silence, he started to care. What if he did something to himself? Yancy talks him down from the ledge, calming him and pointing out how good it is that he’s gone. No one’s bothering him for once. It’s just him, no one trying to break through to him for his heart. Donovan gets to enjoy his week, sprinkled with messages from Yancy. Never putting a single dot together.

Stretching up against the bar, Donovan is only in his usual dancing attire. The faun costume would be retired for a long time, when he can still feel hands pinching and pulling at the false tail. With the AC struggling in the heat, he’s changed from the leggings into shorts, trying to survive while he waits for the repairman to come next week. It’s half an hour before the classes start, so when he hears the little bell of the door opening he knows it’s Yancy. “Over in here!”

While the twin worms of Cody and the law firm haven’t left him yet, the consuming rot of them isn’t too much. Just enough to make his feet a little slower, eyes a little tired, and voice a bit more careful. Donovan’s head is filled with the dull ache of an almost hangover, the strength of those shots a little too much for his weak stomach. But he could’ve sicker if he found Cody in his bed again.

“That sounds lovely, I need a decent wake up. But I haven’t heard from him since last night. Maybe I should hire you to take care of more of my exes,” he laughs, only knowing that Yancy had grabbed the techies wrist and gotten him escorted out the building. “I’ll get calling the lawyers later as well.”

Agreeable. Donovan was endlessly agreeable to everything around him. Never a no out of his mouth, perfectly ok to be strung along by half a dozen men and broken by all of them. A giving tree harvested into a stump. He doesn’t mind saying yes to Yancy when the option for no dangles in front of him. Almost ok. “That’s fine with me. You can have my number if you’d like, arrange any meetings if you wanted to.”

A few buzzes from his phone draw him out from the trance of gazing at the window and his driver. A message from Cody and missed calls. Come back baby, it’s ok. You don’t have to go with a man you don’t know. Gross. “Next left up here.”

I liked how in Nosferatu it’s shown that Ellen not only leaves Thomas behind, lets him go, but she effectively remarries, by dressing up in wedding gown and pledging herself to Orlok and then consumating their sort of marriage. Orlok came before Thomas as Ellen’s dark suitor and Ellen ended up in the end with Orlok, not Thomas. Lilacs as running theme also support it because they are associated with Orlok so even when Ellen was marrying Thomas with lilacs on her head she was involving Orlok into her marriage.

Yes, the lilacs!.. God, the lilacs. She wore them throughout the film, on her dresses, in her hair, as a scent - they're such a prominent motif, and it's very clear that she was never able to let go of her occult nature entirely, despite her very best efforts to conform. The way Orlok reacts to the scent of them in the locket is so telling, too!.. It must've felt like a secret note, passed in code - my first love, I've never forgotten you. Come to me. The hesitation, the slight trembling in his hands as he holds it. The way he keeps it without question, the way he can't resist opening it just to catch the scent - again, again, again. There is something so vulnerable about their connection, on either side.

I think that's why their consummation is so tender sdksjgdjh
