Been playing Borderlands 2 a lot recently

I thought Mordecai wouldn't be the only one to mourn about Bloodwing's death. Or maybe I'm giving the Pandorian Wildlife too much intelligence. But I feel like they would at least show their respect towards a fallen one as powerful as she was. ...there is supposed to be a Varkid on Mordecai's lap chirping with his wings to calm him if anyone wonders and if that makes even sense. Other than that a stalker to his left and a skag to his right. Music that made me finally scetch this out: "Take me away" by Globus

Celebration (4th of July-like Story)

Noises  and blasts around Pandora echoed all over as people celebrated the reign of Jack to be over. It had been one whole year since then. Mordecai sat in the building, holding the scarf on his chest close.

“Easy Talon... Easy. Gunfire doesn’t bother you. You should be-” another blast rang out and the bird threw his wings out, squawking and kicking under the scarf. “Easy amigo!”

He tried to pat the bird and calm him. “Ay there... You’re alright.”

He sighed and looked to the ceiling. “Damn these fireworks. Blood never had a problem with them... You sure are a handful.” He pat Talon again, another blast rang off and Talon flipped out again, Mordecai patting his wings flat again.

Torgue and Tina stepped in the door, holding unlit fireworks. “COME ON MORDECAI! WERE SAVING SOME FOR YOU!” Tina chuckled. “Yeah! It’ll be... a blast!” She motioned with her hands.

Mordecai shook his head. “No thanks guys. Not this time. Talon isn’t exactly happy with all the noises. Maybe next time.” 

They happily ran out to go blast more off, Mordecai groaning almost, humming a small song to keep the tiny bird calm. “You’ll get better... I’m sure you will...”

((Kinda a small 4th of July-like story I felt the need to write. I haven’t written in years ok.))

Looking up stuff about color blindness because Mordecai: "Usually someone with achromatopsia [full color blindness] will need to wear dark glasses inside in normal light conditions." No wonder he wears those goggles????

a small doodle i did after chrism and apparently forgot to upload oops!!! Anyway, my wife got me a voice line from the german va of Mordecai and it's been living rentfree in my head 😳 Saying he doesn't quite understand christmas but that I should pour one out for bloodwing...ue ue ue

[Comes on stage. Audience chatter dies down. Taps my microphone.] Transfemme Mordecai who realizes her attraction to Moxxi might've been carrying some underlying feelings about her own identity. Thanks everyone for coming [Crowd goes wild. I leave the stage.]

there is something so so important to me about the fact that throughout the games, mordecai is presented clearly as someone who cares deeply about the people around him. btw.

like obvs there's his birds, but it's the people that gets me. he's the only bl1 vh who remains close with his group throughout the games. when lil and brick were taken and in hiding, he was roland's right hand for years. after roland's death, he was there to comfort lilith and grieve him with her. hes the one that gives you the mission in bl2 to find the tapes of jack abusing angel, and he's fucking pissed about it. he takes an active role in raising tina, and from the dialogue in fight for sanctuary, it seems like he is the only thing by that point keeping lil and brick in contact with each other. he's also the one encouraging brick to branch out, to get him interests and hobbies outside of fighting as we see in fight for sanctuary (even if brick's gardening still involved violence, lol).

and while we don't get to see their dynamics really play out in the games, from the way moxxi talks about mordecai its very obvious that he loved her deeply even though they were only together for a short time and their relationship ended messily. nevermind the fact that in bl3 mordecai takes up training grace and raising her up to be a vault hunter, and her death hits him hard. we get an entire funeral mission for grace, a character we've never been introduced to, just for mordecai.

idk!!! it's just really interesting to me that as the character who is usually seen as the solitary sort of loner/scout, he actually has such deep connections to the people around him. such a guy

Mordecai headcanons time!! because I’m full of them and cannot be stopped!

he’s really good at estimating things, like distances or how many of something are in a pile. uncannily good

also if you are looking for an item you misplaced earlier this week, chances are he knows exactly where it is

I know we all like to tease him for naming a bloodwing “Bloodwing” but consider the inverse for a moment. what if Mordecai just found this weird alien bird, named it Bloodwing, and then decided to name the entire species after his pet since nobody else had bothered calling them anything before that

he’s the kind of guy who makes puns at every available opportunity but then just stares at you like nothing ever happened

he can fall asleep really easily but he is the lightest sleeper and will wake up if someone breathes in his direction

chairs? don’t know those. he will sit on tables, countertops, washing machines, the floor, Brick, whatever Talon is sitting on, but NOT a chair

he’s kept every drawing Tina ever made for him. sometimes he puts the really old and embarrassing ones on display to torment her
