ill allow myself one (maybe) hot take today. fiddleford would NOT want to help stan save ford i think. not from a resentment towards ford absolutely not i think hed feel devastated to hear he disappeared but i sincerely cannot imagine him helping open the portal when hes seen inside and knows exactly how dangerous it is. i cant even imagine him wanting to when he knows the potential consequences.

While I still don't think the show has done enough to show why the world despises and fears male channelers (since it really should've been embedded into the world building, so far we only know that the Aes Sedai hate and fear them) and it does kinda lessen the impact of the narrative that none of the EF5 had at least an initial gut reaction to Rand being able to channel. I do wonder how they're gonna handle that topic moving forward, cause it kinda has to be addressed now that Rand is actively channeling. I could see it being expanded more deeply as Rand's madness progresses/tie it into his arc.

the show has made it ABUNDANTLY clear that Male Channelers Are Considered Bad News By All. it IS embedded into the worldbuilding. was the king saying that logain's gone mad and trying to kill him not enough for you? was the people of tar valon jeering and throwing fruit at him not enough for you? was rand and mat saying "hey if i'm a male channeler please kill me" not enough for you? was rand's terror the second he realized selene saw him channel not enough for you? was selene's act of how a normal person would react to finding out her boyfriend can channel not enough for you? was his heartbroken yet unsurprised reaction to her rejection not enough for you? was the whole backstory of a male channeler causing the apocalypse not enough for you? do you think that show-onlys are completely incapable of putting all these pieces together along with aes sedai treatment of male channelers and coming to the conclusion that male channelers are probably not very popular with most people and it's going to be very tough for rand that he is one?

literally what else should they have done that would make sense within the very small world and very early story of the first 2 seasons/3 books that they didn't already do? shown emond's fielders sitting around the dinner table talking about how much they hate and fear male channelers when none of them has ever met one and thus it's not relevant to their lives? wasted time doing a whole sidequest for rand in s2 where his abilities are discovered by some Average Citizens and they react badly? shit all over show!mat's characterization and given him a negative reaction to rand in s2 that would not make sense for his current show headspace, just for the sake of furthering rand's randpain? i'm sick of the rand stans who act like rand is the only character who matters and mat's characterization should be sacrificed just so we can go "oh poor rand uwu even his own best friend is mean to him". portraying mat in 2x06 as the sort of person who bullies and kicks his best friend while he's down would've been beneficial because......? what is so wrong with the show making the ef5 feel like mutually loyal friends instead of "rand is the best and most loyal friend in the world but the rest are little shits who abandon him as soon as the going gets tough"? seeing as in the books, mat continues to be an extremely loyal friend to rand throughout the series but most readers are too stupid to see through his unreliable narration and realize he doesn't mean it when he says that rand channeling is like him eating babies, i'm not surprised the show decided to simplify things in order to convey the true heart of mat's character (loyal and caring friend to rand) in a more obvious manner.

and i guarantee you that no show-only is going "oh, it's only aes sedai who have a problem with male channelers, everyone else thinks they're cool". that's not happening. show-onlys are not stupid, and they understand that male channelers are considered bad news by all; or maybe they haven't thought much yet about how male channelers are viewed by the average public, but in future seasons once we see rand getting shit from the average public, they are not going to be surprised or confused or go "but i thought it was only aes sedai who had a problem with them and everyone else thinks they're cool?", they're going to go "oh, well we've seen how much aes sedai hate them, so it makes sense that everyone else does too". stop. think for 2 seconds about "have i actually seen a large number* of show-onlys misunderstanding X and/or do i think it's plausible that a large number of show-onlys would be likely to misunderstand X, or do show-onlys have enough context clues to figure out X for themselves or to be unsurprised when X is expanded on and made more explicit in future seasons and i'm working myself up into a state over a non-issue?"

*there are always going to be a handful of people incapable of critical thinking who willfully misunderstand what the show is showing us, just like there are readers like that with the books, hence unless a LARGE number of general-population show-onlys are misunderstanding X, as opposed to just 20 idiots on twitter, i do not consider it a failure by the show in portraying X.

Ever since the poll for princess stan, Ive been wondering how the story would have gone had stan not gotten front row seats to The Trauma Show.. Would there have been any big changes or would stan just plain ignored it and shove any feelings on the matter down if dragon murder had been kept pg?

Yes and no. Pg no trauma Stan would have continued repressing his emotions about Ford and people liking him, and not started trying to test Fords limits. He also wouldn't have had his emotional magic explosion moment. Right now. It would have been pushed back to a different point in the story.

What would have happened is there'd be more of a focus on the impending Rico arrival and Stan going back and forth on if he really wanted to be rescued by Rico or live the rest of his life in a castle. I have the story separated into 'sagas', with the first being 'kidnapped' and the second being 'pampered'. Right now it's a mini 'trauma saga' which has pushed back the next one, being 'the knights'. So what would have happened is that the story would have skipped trauma and gone straight to knights.

Some spoilers for the next chapter under the cut explaining what happened with Stan and the rune.

So I've joked around with Stan's bomb hand warmer, but I did have fiddleford say that it was a battery that COULD have exploded. It was giving off magical energy that in ye olden days was used to power things, and is now being used to power Stan. It'll be explained next chapter, but the reason all of his magical circles have been doing anything at all was because he'd been brute forcing them with his own energy instead of drawing it from the environment like circles are supposed to. If he hadnt suffered mega trauma Fiddleford wouldn't have found it and taken it away.

So part of the bad feelings he'd been feeling were him still using his own magical energy, but without the battery to resupply it. Plus he now has a larger pool to draw from, which takes longer to recover if not fueled by an arcane battery. In the story he chalks it up to not sleeping and stress, but in the pg verse he'd figure something was up when Fiddleford eventually found the battery and he kept on going. Since he's Stan and would never admit to weakness, he'd just grumble about being sick, get stuck on a rune due to magical depletion mania, and exploded something anyway.

Since he didn't have the battery, didn't realize something was wrong because he already felt terrible, and had latched on to a rune to distract himself and due to mania, it led to his magic explosion as his brain sorta rewired itself to process magic better, but he didn't have the control to make it stop. Any rune he'd have latched onto would have done the same thing, it just so happened he did the break one. If he'd zoned in on something like grow or push or the results would have changed to match, I just picked something angsty. For angst purposes.

Which is a terrible recipe for making a sorcerer! Congrats to Stan, who is now leaking magic with no way to stop and will now be casting random runes until he figures how to not bend reality as his knowledge on runes expands, which it has to, as if he let's it build without doing something he might explode! The world hasn't had any sorcerers in a while, as it's sort of a lost art due to magic scarcity.

- since richie was born w his abilities, so his parents are aware of his abilities to an extent, but has kept how much he really can regenerate a secret

- its only because he accidentally broke a bone when he was 14 when exploring an abandoned building and at first was like “my mom is gonna be sooooo mad at me” and watched his bone just, unbreak and was then like “HOLY SHIT.”

- but because he’s yapper king number one, he obviously needs to tell someone about it, and who else other than stanley uris?

- stan was also exploring with richie and in his pov he just hears a scream, a crash, and a “HOLY SHIT”. he runs over and he just sees richie, completely unscathed and gaping at his own body and hes like “ok what did u do this time.”

- so stan ends up knowing the full extent of his abilities, but he does not become aware of deadpool being richie (although he’s SUPER suspicious about it. like he’s basically confirmed it in his head)

- when deadpool starts making appearances and one of the other losers brings it up, stan brings it up later in private like “so that deadpool guy. familiar huh” and richie just smiles at him like “HAHA YEAH thats twinnnn lol its so funny. wish i knew him.” and stans like Hrm. Im onto you.

Stop putting the other Robins down to prop up your fave as the sole "right" Robin.

Some people are so so obvious when talking about the Robins in that they clearly don't care to think about the different ways Robin is important to all of them. My personal favorite wanted it more so therefore they are more entitled and how dare people say that maybe moving on to something else would be good for them.

Going out of your way to detail all the ways they understand it's meaning better and deserve Robin more than the others (with no real consideration given to the meaning behind it i.e. the Graysons) while minimizing everyone else to "for selfish reasons" is not the win you seem to think it is.

It's just so clear that you don't actually care about any of the others and you don't truly care about the meaning behind it (while claiming that that is your motivation). How dare the 10 year old with an extremely narrow world view who just lost his sole connection to Gotham (his father) want to be Robin, he clearly doesn't understand what it means and he's just being selfish. Like I don't know, maybe he's just 10? I think everyone could stand to approach early Damian with more grace and consideration for just how awful his situation truly was. And he moved on from the "selfish" motivations very quickly, he was a child looking for something to belong to and viewed Robin as a way to get that!
