Hello!!

I wanted to ask if you would be willing to share how you go about finding the references for the injuries you depict in your work? Your pieces where the CoD boys are sporting injuries, fresh and old, are always so lifelike and to my untrained eye seem entirely medically correct.

I have been trying my hand at drawing the boys retired and resting as well, but I’m finding it difficult to decide what work injuries to add and how to find the respective references.

How do you decide what injuries to portray? And how do you go about finding the reference material?

Oooh ok ok! I'm gonna post my answer publically because I think others would find this interesting too!

To preface, I am definitely NOT a medical professional, and as such, a lot of the stuff I choose to depict in my art is not so much..ah, medically accurate as it is....aesthetically pleasing 🤭

I'll start with scars, as a lot of us enjoy slashing up Simon's face with them, lol. Generally, I'll do a cursory google image search for the type of scar I'm looking for (be warned, these can be graphic) with searches like 'burn scar' 'surgery scar' etc. But I find that for things like cuts and lacerations, real-life scars are a bit innocuous and lame 🤷‍♀️ Unfortunately not everyone's skin wants to retain that perfect slash look™️😔

So what I usually end up referencing are costume prosthetic scars ✨

As you can see, they're pretty gnarly:

And you definitely don't have to go this intense, but I find that the dramatic, carved-like appearance of these translate better to art than a realistically healed wound 🤙

The other thing to consider is the prevalence of injuries in the military. From what I've gathered, the most common will be back/shoulder/limb injuries, just a general fucking up of the whole musculoskeletal system in general due to constant overuse 🤕 Hearing loss, shrapnel/blast/burn injuries are also common, as well as all the negative psychological effects :') goooood times (not)

I think it's neat to look up real-life examples of these things, but it can get a bit intense if you're squeamish...

So yeah...I tend to tone things down, all things considered...😅

For this particular piece:

I researched broken humerus injuries and treatment 👍 Poor boy 🥺(Yes, I am aware that I consumed entire articles and did a shit ton of research about this just to go ahead and put a female's x-ray in this fucking picture sdfghjkl rip💀😭)

But here you can see the actual process for applying the brace for this particular injury:

When I draw Johnny with a knee brace, it's usually a real authentic one you can buy on amazon:

As for ones like this:

I tend to just...scatter some wounds around and patch them up accordingly, lol. Bruising around the eyes is common with any head injury, and surgical stitching will offer a nice puckered skin effect mmm 👌 (I swear I'm normal abt this)

I'm sure the medical malpractice lawsuits are stacking up for me now, but again--it's usually more about the ✨visuals✨

My parting advice would be--go nuts! Feel free to maim and mutilate and mangle to your heart's content 🥰

Is it still the rebellious, underground vibe we fell in love with, or is it getting lost in the world of viral trends and sponsorships? Rekindling the Flame: I'm Back and Ready to Share!

Hey, everyone! ✨

It has been another week of taking a break from posting stuff on Tumblr.

I’m excited to share that I’m back and ready to reconnect with all of you and I'm ready to post anything I can put my heart into.

However, before I could start posting stuff again,

I want to address and express my feelings about what happened in the past couple of weeks regarding my AI Art to everyone on Tumblr, especially to every Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends fan blog on Tumblr. Recently, nobody liked the content of my AI Art, I felt like I couldn't be accepted and respected as a fellow Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends Fan; I ended up being rejected somewhat and feeling like a loser and an outcast to everyone, even to Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends Fan Tumblr Blogs because of my AI-generated art, Therefore, which caused me to stop posting my AI Art on Tumblr and even deleted my posts of my AI Art as well. I was told twice that obviously, nobody liked my posts of my AI Art because it's not creative which felt very heartbreaking and discouraging, very discouraging. So then, I decided to take a break from posting stuff on Tumblr for a while in hopes of healing my wounds fully and maybe things would get better. When I returned to Tumblr after a whole week of healing, I thought things would be better but I didn't know what to post that everybody would like to see since nobody loved my AI Art. But I didn't expect the same incident to happen again when somebody suggested that I shouldn't post AI art, which once again hurt me deeply and caused my wounds to start reopening. I fully understand and get the fact that no one likes my AI Art posts, but there’s no good in rubbing salt in my wounds because it will make them raw even more, and I’ve found it hard to post my art anymore. I wish I hadn't been judged and rebuked harshly for my AI-generated art in the first place, just to be accepted as a Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends fan and to be accepted by everyone else in general. I shouldn’t have to change my style to fit in. I don’t know why, but I wish it didn't have to be like that. Because of those negative experiences, I won't post any of my AI-generated art on Tumblr for good. I would appreciate it if everyone didn't mention that my AI-generated art isn’t enjoyable because it hurts my feelings. I feel like I'm a nobody to everyone else or maybe even a joke to other Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends fans. But it seems my feelings don't matter to everyone else not even Foster's Home Imaginary Friends fans.

Well, I hope that everyone on Tumblr will understand especially other Foster's Imaginary Friends fans that I don't appreciate being rejected and being greatly treated like a nobody all because I posted my AI Art. After all, it's not okay at all. Unfortunately, I still can't stop thinking about what happened last Tuesday and on October 14th, and because of those two incidents, I feel like I have a big, massive scar on my heart that would be impossible to heal even with stitches and bandages.💔

Graceland

Elvis can’t sleep. Even after his romp with the little ice skater currently wrapped in his arms, and the lingering exhaustion that never seems to truly go away, his mind and body just won’t relax.

He wants to, he really does. It was his hope that sex might do the trick, but instead he just finds himself staring aimlessly above him, uncharacteristically uncomfortable with the girl he is holding in her post-coital bliss. Honestly, all he wants right now is her out of here and back downstairs with all the rest of the Holiday on Ice company he’d invited over for a party. Maybe play in the surprise snowstorm a little.

Greta is a carryover from his time in Germany, a part of the Holiday on Ice troupe he had seen in Frankfurt. There, it was different. She’d been a welcome distraction, and he thought, since she happened to be one of the few from that company who’d come over stateside, that maybe she would prove the same here.

No such luck.

She was fine and all. The sex was fine, but something was…missing. And frankly he feels strange about her occupying your side of the bed, sullying it with her cloying perfume. He makes a note to tell someone to change the sheets before you come in.

And with that thought, he untangles himself despite the girl’s disappointed sigh of protest and starts redressing. “Best get back downstairs, darlin’. Can’t have folks sayin’ I’m a bad host,” he says disarmingly, tucking his dress shirt into the cummerbund he’s refastened around his waist, throwing her a wide, bright smile he knows from experience has a warm effect on women.

She nods, getting the hint and smiling back at him while she picks up her clothes from where they’d been so carelessly discarded on the floor not all that long ago. Once they are both decent, he opens the door to usher her out and nearly runs right into you as pass through the hallway.

It is silly the way his heart races, as though he’s been caught with his hand in the cookie jar. He watches you take stock of the situation, holding his breath for your reaction. It is certainly not the first time he’d been caught with one girl by another, and he can’t help feeling that he has betrayed you in some way. Perhaps it is because to everyone else in this house, you are his girlfriend, and any man in his right mind doesn’t want to be discovered fooling around with one girl when he is supposed to be with another...

Whether he possesses the DIY knowledge on how to fix it, or has a trusty contact who does (usually a close friend or a friend of a friend), he always ensures the issue is resolved as swiftly as possible.

On the other hand, you revel in maintaining the home’s tidiness, even amidst the chaos of Armin’s extensive book collection strewn haphazardly around. With your knack for decorating and your keen eye for the arts — along with the assortment of second-hand bought trinkets and cherished gifts from close friends — you’ve personalized the space to perfectly reflect the both of you. Now, it feels imbued with life and warmth — your little sanctuary of love and laughter.

One piece of furniture stands out amongst the rest — an old, well-loved but worn-out couch, adorned with scrapes and a few lingering stains from late nights drinking. While it may have seen better days, it holds a special place in your hearts. A gift from Mikasa and Eren — a symbol to commemorate a most significant milestone in your relationship with Armin: finally moving in together, after years of dating. Countless evenings you’ve spent together on that couch, the two of you, snuggled close, engrossed in movies and documentaries, with popcorn and other snacks scattered around.

Unfortunately, those evenings have become a distant memory. While Armin has the luxury of working from home occasionally, your day begins and ends with a grueling commute. Endless hours stuck in traffic, surrounded by other impatient commuters honking their horns and blasting music. Your nightly routines of cozying up with books and series have faded away, and Armin is always quick to notice the melancholy in your eyes, and the exhaustion that coats your whole being when you return home from work.

He yearns to bring back the sense of relaxation in your life.

So, one cloudy Saturday morning — with the skies overcast and the gentle city breeze singing its soft melody — he decides to dedicate the day entirely to you.

He stirs from his slumber, stretching his limbs, ensuring his movements are as quiet as possible. Padding softly to the kitchen, he contemplates his first step: breakfast — he’s been eagerly awaiting the opportunity to prepare your favorites ever since his latest grocery run, where he gathered all the necessary ingredients.

He brews himself a fragrant cup of coffee, the bitter aroma filling the air. His hands move gracefully as he gathers the ingredients, double-checking the recipes saved on his phone. Even though he has watched you create these dishes countless of times — and he considers them simple and easy to recreate — he’s determined to prepare a masterpiece.

Contrary to his belief and his initial confidence, preparing the breakfast platter ends up a challenging endeavor. When he finally completes the breakfast, a fine dusting of flour coats every inch of the tiny kitchen; rogue bits of batter cling stubbornly to his tousled hair. There’s a wet spot on the floor, where an unfortunate egg had met its fate.

Despite his fierce battle with the stubborn kitchen appliances and the endless amount of recipes (complete with their frustratingly long blog stories), Armin couldn’t help but let out a proud smile at his accomplishment. A grand platter, filled with numerous delicious and aromatic treats lay in front of him. Of course, a steaming cup of coffee sat next to it, brewed from your favorite coffee beans — the ones you’ve reserved only for special occasions.

Armin looks at the clock, noting the time is drawing near to when you usually stir from your slumber on your days off. He carefully collects the platter, and proceeds towards your shared bedroom.

He eases the door ajar, casting a cautious glance inside.You’re already awake, perched on the bed, tousled and tangled hair framing your face. Fatigue clings to your eyes, yet a delicate smile graces your lips as you idly scroll your phone.

“Good morning, love,” Armin murmurs tenderly, opening the door further. “I’ve prepared a little something for you.” He steps inside the room, heart swelling as he notices your gaze widen in astonishment.

“Armin…” you start, words faltering. “You—you shouldn't have…” You spring up from the bed, nearly stumbling over your own slippers, as you eagerly reach for him. Cupping his cheeks within your tender hands, you lock your gaze with his, heart racing with affection. You find yourself lost in the endless cerulean of his eyes; and you can’t help but notice the tiny specks of lighter blue scattered within. A shy but sweet smile tugs at his lips, and a gentle flush colors his cheeks as you press your lips softly against his.

“Oh, no!” you mumble, drawing back in mild horror. Armin looks puzzled by your sudden reaction, as you stammer our apologies. “Morning breath, sorry… Just… give me a moment,” you add, rushing off to the bathroom to quickly freshen up by brushing your teeth and washing your face.

When you return back to the bedroom — now looking significantly more refreshed and awake — Armin has already set the platter on the bed. The coffee, still burning hot, emits gentle tendrils of steam.

You settle gracefully onto the bed, crossing your legs. “Are you joining me?” you ask, patting the spot next to you with a warm smile. Armin ponders for a moment, before he settles next to you, wrapping an arm around your shoulders.

“You made my favorite,” you murmur, gaze fixed on the colorful and appetizing platter of food before you. “Thank you,” you add quietly, planting another tender kiss on his lips. You nestle your cheek against his, seeking out the comfort of his warm presence.

Together, the two of you savor the quiet intimacy of the breakfast, enjoying the different flavors of the dishes he had prepared. To many, the moment might seem small and insignificant, but to you, it means everything — the chance to spend such intimate and domestic moments with the person you cherish the most in your life, the one person you love more than anyone else in the world.
