Dust coated makes me want to put the characters in a box and shake them violently (in a good way)
Oh, good. They deserve it.

gargoyle Mal is everything I've ever dreamed of and more. his little raincoat! his umbrella! I hope he really does have big ol' stompy rainboots to splash around in puddles in. I hope they have little faces on them.
(Twst please give me Malleus having a rainy day adventure, this is everything I need right now)

fun fact about me! I have hyperadrenergic Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (hPOTS). this means I am prone to fainting when I change positions or when I feel a strong surge of emotion, positive or negative. for me, laughing is my worst non-postural trigger.
this is a clip from playing lethal company with friends a few months ago. you can hear the eerie silence of presyncope at 0:19, and the sound at 0:23 is my face hitting the keyboard lmao. I played this for my mother and she literally pissed herself laughing and DEMANDED I show every single person I know (including my doctors, who thought it was funny to see and surprisingly helpful, especially for being audio only).

having good & true friends will literally save and protect you in a million unfathomable ways. like okay we have written so many times about lovers. but the way a platonic friend laughs and cries with you. the way they hold your hand at 14 years old and at 34. the way they keep a little silver tie to you, touching base over and over and over. how you can go years without talking, only to re-meet and discover: oh shit! you're still cool!
there are people who have been in my life for more than half of it, and i have loved every version of them. do you know how fucking beautiful that is. yeah love will save the world. but the way friends love you is gonna save the you.

here's what ur gonna do. ur gonna get a plain tshirt from anywhere. from ur closet or ur dad or the thrift store or whatever. then ur gonna go to the dollar store or whatever equivalent u have in ur country. ur gonna get fabric paint and a sponge. ur gonna go home and take a cereal box or a cover of a magazine or something similar. ur gonna draw a design on it [or words. or print out a picture and trace it onto the cardstock) and cut out a stencil. then ur gonna use the sponge to dab the paint onto the shirt using the stencil. ur gonna do that thinly in 2-3 coats until it's opaque but not too stiff. then ur gonna let it dry for 24 hours. ur gonna cover that shirt with a thin towel and press an iron against the design for 30 seconds. then ur gonna wash it & wear it. got it?

Yeah here’s a thing I learned WAY too late in my academic career. Scientists aren’t paid for their articles. They usually pay A LOT to get them published (thousands of $) especially for open access. Which is the best way for your work to get seen, which you want as many people possible to see, especially if your field is small. Paying for access to one article can be $50+ which is paid to the journal. Not the researchers.
Oh and peer review? That’s not done by journal employees. They reach out to people in your field who review your work for free. Some people will include the cost of submission in a grant application but it’s a high/risky cost to include. I know scientists who will pay their own money (even though they work at a university) to publish their studies.
More than 40 leading scientists have resigned en masse from the editorial board of a top science journal in protest at what they describe as the “greed” of publishing giant Elsevier.
The entire academic board of the journal Neuroimage, including professors from Oxford University, King’s College London and Cardiff University resigned after Elsevier refused to reduce publication charges.
Academics around the world have applauded what many hope is the start of a rebellion against the huge profit margins in academic publishing, which outstrip those made by Apple, Google and Amazon.
Neuroimage, the leading publication globally for brain-imaging research, is one of many journals that are now “open access” rather than sitting behind a subscription paywall. But its charges to authors reflect its prestige, and academics now pay over £2,700 for a research paper to be published. The former editors say this is “unethical” and bears no relation to the costs involved.
Professor Chris Chambers, head of brain stimulation at Cardiff University and one of the resigning team, said: “Elsevier preys on the academic community, claiming huge profits while adding little value to science.”
He has urged fellow scientists to turn their backs on the Elsevier journal and submit papers to a nonprofit open-access journal which the team is setting up instead.
He told the Observer: “All Elsevier cares about is money and this will cost them a lot of money. They just got too greedy. The academic community can withdraw our consent to be exploited at any time. That time is now.”
Elsevier, a Dutch company that claims to publish 25% of the world’s scientific papers, reported a 10% increase in its revenue to £2.9bn last year. But it’s the profit margins, nearing 40%, according to its 2019 accounts, which anger academics most. The big scientific publishers keep costs low because academics write up their research – typically funded by charities and the public purse – for free. They “peer review” each other’s work to verify it is worth publishing for free, and academic editors collate it for free or for a small stipend. Academics are then often charged thousands of pounds to have their work published in open-access journals, or universities will pay very high subscription charges.

No words are spoken. The only noise Erebus makes is winces of pain every so often. The shadow magic wards are burning him so very literally. It was odd, still looking humanoid. Erebus kept looking at his hands in amazement at just having hands!
Their walk through the campus was quiet. Erebus kept glancing back at the patch of grass occasionally with a knowing look but he didn’t speak. He couldn’t put words to the feeling of seeing his past before him. He’d never thought he’d be back here, but here he was. In all his injured glory.
@ask-the-puppet-master
Libel has a strange reaction to his winces. They find it almost... endearing how someone has tough as The Puppet Master can be fazed. Maybe they just take a sick joy in suffering. None of these options seemed to be quite implausible to them, given their track record.
Libel notices his glances and finally find their wits about them to speak up. "So... whats the deal with that grass patch, anyway?" They wave their arms around them in a vague gesture that Erebus doesn't quite catch from his vantage point of a few paces ahead. "Just looks like, to me, some pyromancer kid had godawful aim and the big dogs just didn't wanna clean up their mess." They squint and lean around him, speeding up to meet his gaze. They almost see him tense up.
