YES, YET ANOTHER TUMBLR COMPETITION! Do you have a monster blorbo? Do you want to see them FIGHT against other monster blorbos? THEN IT’S SHOWDOWN TIME!

Hosted by me, also known as @garcavisconde and @hiwelcometothemonstersancturary, and inspired by @ultimatepinkgirl @blackandpinkbracket @precureshowdown @redandgreenpoll @finalgirl-showdown and @beefy-babe-showdown!

THE RULEZ:

NO PEOPLE IN HERE!!!! All submissions must be of MONSTERS! They are allowed to have human forms, tho!

I don’t have a very rigid criteria on what counts as a monster, and YES, the monsters can have cute appearances and all of that. As long as you believe it’s a monster, then you can submit it!

Monsters can be from real-life (urban legends, cryptids, etc) and any sort of fiction. This includes the super niche YouTube short film you really like.

DON’T SUBMIT THE SAME CHARACTER MORE THAN ONCE! Please!

You can, however, submit more than one character!

I want to have 32 monsters to fight against each other, but I can adjust the size of the bracket to 16 if there aren’t enough submissions.

Vote by any metric you want! Which monsters is the scariest, the coolest, etc etc.

Propaganda is ENCOURAGED and shall be tagged as #monsterpropaganda. I don’t know if I’ll rb propaganda posts, tho!

GET AWAY Comedic slasher with Nick Frost - trailer and release date

Get Away is a 2024 comedic slasher horror film about a family that chooses their vacation on a remote island. Unfortunately, the island is also inhabited by a serial killer. The movie was directed by Steffen Haars from a screenplay by Nick Frost (Black Cab; Slaughterhouse Rulez; The World’s End; Shaun of the Dead) who also stars. Now, look, boys, boys, boys. You're both too young, too bright, and quite frankly, too darn handsome to be polluting your bodies in such a reckless fashion. I don't want to start thrashing pupils like it's the good old days. But it's clear to me that you do need some correcting.

Has anyone seen slaughterhouse rulez? It is one of the best films I have ever seen and its definitely my favourite. Its complete insanity but it is so good. Its made by Simon Pegg and Nick Frost (so you know its going to be good) and the main characters are played by Finn Cole and Asa Butterfield (Asa's character is also canonically gay).

It basically follows the story of a yorkshire boy who moves school to a posh public school in Gloucester in the middle of term. Long story short the headteacher has allowed fracking on site which released these weird animals out the ground which start to attack the school and a small group of the students and one teacher (Simon Pegg) have to get rid of them. In the process blowing up the school.

Its a really good way of showing the social imbalance in English school and also deals with things lime homophobia and bullying in these places while still being a comedy film.

It also has Michael Sheen and a young Kit Conner in it as well.

Anyway thats all i wanted to say I just love this (mostly unknown) film so much.

Vintage blazer with shoulder pads I got for £2(!!!) in a charity shop

Black/green/purple scarf. Nothing special I just like the colours

I just watched Slaughterhouse Rulez and I feel like I could write an essay on the queerness in it bc holy shit there is a lot to unpack there. I just wanted to watch a movie and I learned it had Kit, Simon Pegg, and Michael Sheen playing a gay headmaster in it, and it looked kind of terrible. And yes it was a terrible movie (lazy exposition, dripping with cliches, message that kind of falls flat on its face) but it was also kind of transcendent. I was genuinely laughing aloud at some of the absurdities and then groaning at the terrible jokes.

But anyway, the queer stuff.

The Inherent homo-eroticism of a boarding school - do i need to say more?

Inappropriate headmaster - genuinely disgusting the way they were just like, this man is inappropriate towards minors, isn't that funny? (eg. The first scene where he says 'boys' in THAT way and then when he calls the leads 'handsome'.)

The dead gay kid TM - The fact that there isn't even a flashback to their relationship and its just a part of the lore that someone was bullied for being gay so he killed himself just so the straight MC can say "wow, I thought we were supposed to be free here." and that there can be a reason for someone to own a lighter.

The Sad Gay Kid TM - The fact that he flounces around making jokes about gay sex and then tries to kill himself while being a "drama queen"... interesting.

The Evil Queer Coded Villain - That blond prick that just hurled slurs at the Sad Gay the whole time and then said he would fuck MC's face? at an orgy? dressed in military uniform?

Baby Queer - Kit's character, when learning that the orgy was turning gay, insisted on seeing, and also admired the hands of a boy who was fondling another. But also his character was already the subject of ridicule for the entire film, so this was probably an extension of that.

In conclusion, it was gay and homophobic at the same time.

Give Me A Job by Sherika Sherard - I first heard her play at pride and she's sooo awesome everyone should listen to this. This song in particular struck a chord with me but she has loads of other bangers so go check her out.
