This is a fun one I had to be specifically picky about, on account of so many of my characters not eating 'food'.

We'll be using 'Pale Blood' characters, wherein two of them absolutely eat normal things.

what is one comfort meal that'll change your whole mood for the day?

"You feed this big, hot piece of--"

"Den."

"I can't help it, he's--fine. You feed him, what was it called? The stuff with the noodles and meat and mushrooms."

"Min throws one fit and the whole pack's gotta shame my shrooms..."

"Stroganoff, Den, that's the name."

"Yeah, that. Give my sweet fang here some of that and he's putty the whole day."

"Is that why you hugged me yesterday?"

"Nah, that was all you, Ron. You're very huggable."

"Who invited the ghoulfriend..."

"Aw, look at the arm candy, thinking he gets a say in where I go."

"Aw, and look at the abomination, thinking it can contribute to a discussion about food. Eat any good dead people lately?"

"Plenty, precious. In fact, just this morning I ate your mo--"

"Nope. Nuh-uh. Not doin' this. Question over."

"I would like to eliminate dairy, for the sole purpose of making my dear, sweet coworker here less--"

"Does the witch not do dairy? Del, Del, why didn't you tell me she can't handle dairy. Even synth? I need ice cream. Or just cream, can we get heavy cream?"

"Den, no."

"But maybe it would loosen her up to be horribly embarrassed and it would please me. Don't you want to please me?"

"I'm not answerin' that. But I will answer the question; brussel sprouts. Even the real thing is like eatin' an old shoe."

WIP Intro: Witch, Wizard and Weaver

Since I finally came up with a title I don't hate and (maybe) settled on names for the major characters, here's a WIP intro!

Witch, Wizard and Weaver is first and foremost a story about cool wizards doing cool wizard shit. That's my most important goal.

The protagonist is a girl named Heddle who grows up in a beach town and local hub for the textile industry. She is put to work in her family weaving shop at a very young age and struggles with opposing expectations put on her by the adults in her life. Her mother wants her to marry a nice boy and take on the family business and her grandmother wants to pass down the cultural secrets of witchcraft.

What Heddle wants to do is practice magic, but not in the community-oriented way that witches do. She wants to be a wizard who does cool stuff like fight dragons and move mountains. To become a wizard though, you have to go to wizard school, and someone like her could never dream of doing that... right?

There are murder-alpacas, traumatized fireball nuns, goat-herds on stilts, anti-imperialism, tree marriage, personal transformation as a magic thing, and a whole lot of wetlands ecology.

My word count baseline goal is 50k but it will definitely be longer than that. Right now I'm working on finishing the worldbuilding needed to progress the story so the actual word count on the first draft is going slowly at the moment. With regard to worldbuilding: I'm taking a vibes-based approach to naming things in the first draft. When I finish that I plan to make up some languages so assume the names of most things are going to change.

It's my only active WIP and I'm trying to stay focused on it this year, so if you hear me talking about my story, I'm talking about Witch, Wizard and Weaver!

You had heard him before he slammed his fists on your door. His breathing sounded painful and labored. His steps weren't fast on his way to your home. There was no sign that he was fleeing from someone or something.

You ignored him. Your first assumption was that it was just some prank from a group of teens who decided to try out if the rumors and stories were all true. The unknown human who was in your doorsteps, being the one to dare and disturb you. Sadly for them, it was too late. You were in your pajamas and in bed already. You didn't feel like entertaining the foolish human and his friends.

However, he continued to knock. He wasn't giving up until he was sure you opened the door and made yourself seen.

Calling the cops wasn't an answer. The pigs didin't have the balls to enter the forest and see if you were in trouble. Like how you heard last time from the soccer moms that were married to them. "Once she's dead, that's the moment we'll enter". You sigh, put on your long black robe, and make your way down to the front door. You were growing irritated with the banging. You nearly yelled out that you were on the way to open the door.

The sight surprises you.

The first thing that hits you is the scent of blood. A mix of others and his own. It smells good. It's so delicious that your fangs are ready to sink. It has you taking a step back and him taking one forward. The fear of you letting him die. It doesn't help that he's towering over your figure. It feels like you're trapped.

Blood, blood, blood,

You turn your gaze away from his hand and look up. His sharp blue eyes are fixed on your red ones. He doesn't appear to be scared. He's not stepping away and yelling out for protection. He's struggling not to fall on you as the pain continues to be unbearable.

"Please help me." The unknown pleads.

You don't say anything.

You pull him in and lock the door.
