thank you for your help with the Quenya D thing! I was wondering also how to do the Y sound. There are plenty of words that end with or contain something like “ya” but there is no Y tengwa. How do I get around that? Thanks!

No problem! There's two slightly different ways to represent the y sound, depending on the previous letter. If it comes after a consonant, then you add two dots next to each other below the consonant symbol to represent the y. So to spell Aragorn's title Envinyatar, you would add the y-dots below the n.

If the y comes after a vowel or at the beginning, there's obviously no tengwa to put the dots under, so you add a sort of 'placeholder' symbol to carry the dots. That symbol is called anna, no. 23 in the table found in Appendix E. So in the name Yavanna, the first tengwa would be the placeholder with dots under it, while in a word like Aldúya (Tuesday), you'd put one after the ú.
