by far the most interesting bit of hw2's secret ending for me is that the achievement for reaching it is this:

...and we've seen pretty heavy associations between vanny and old man consequences from the beginning, with the old man who guides you throughout pq being coloured a similar deep red and referred to as OMC in the game files:

said old man is pretty odd. he's nowhere to be seen in pq1 (which opens with the princess waking up), but appears after it -- and remember, pq1 ends with the princess being consumed by the glitching rabbit amalgamation. instead, he appears to bookend pq2, giving the princess the sword of light and making what is either a typo or a reference i'm too young to get (sorry!). it's in this game that the princess gains the ability to control her own shadow... done by interacting with red lanterns.

(hey, look, there's the old man being replaced by a control flame... and yes, you do end pq2 by returning to your bedroom through the previously-shut door on its left. bookends!)

notably, the achievement you get for beating pq2 is called a double-edged sword.

(you don't get one for beating pq3, since that immediately leads into the good/'saviour' ending and its corresponding achievement, are you having fun yet?)

vanny is the consequence of glitchtrap's actions; he is the price you pay, and she is the result. "leave the demon to his demons", and all that.
