Was listening to Jungkook's cover of Paper Hearts by Tori Kelly yesterday and I think it's so poignant:

And then,

Like, I'm just imagining Jungkook a couple months from now--scrolling through Weverse, pictures of ARMY from concerts, or even the memories he made with us this year--thinking about us and missing us and trying to use those memories to make it through.

Under Gaza's Sky
On a dark night, where the sounds of bombardment ðð¥ intertwined with the cries of children ð¢ð¶, Ahmed sat in the corner of his small, crumbling room ðïž, holding his four children close ð€² as if shielding them from the horrors of the world.
The electricity was cut off â¡â, and the only light came from a small candle ð¯ïž slowly melting away, mirroring their lives being drained day by day.
Ahmed looked at his children and saw in their eyes a fear no child should bear ðšð§, and a hunger that devoured their innocence ðð. He tried to hide his tears ð¢ as they streamed down his face, but he couldnât. How could he not cry when he was powerless to provide their daily bread? How could he not feel helpless when he couldn't protect them from the roaring planes overhead âïžð, circling as if waiting to strike?
He sat in silence,
g, "How can I save my children from this hell? Where will I find a shelter to protect them? Who will help us as we battle both hunger and fear?"
At that moment, his little daughter approached him ð§, tugged at his sleeve, and said in her soft voice:

Book review: Goddesses, Whores, Wives & Slaves by Sarah B Pomeroy (1975)

This was impossible to put down. A fascinating and vibrant history of Ancient Greek and Roman Women: from all walks of life, using just about every resource available within art and archaeology and anthropology.
Itâs also also very very well researched and informative with a HUGE bibliography and a great index and lots of notes for the nerdy (aka me) who has already highlighted the next set of books to chew on.
Overall she argues (and does so persuasively with a great deal of thought and objectivity) that Roman women seemed to have enjoyed a higher quality of life than the Ancient Greek women because of generally (especially in upper class households) having a more public-facing life, being slightly more protected by the pater familias model of the Roman household, and having slightly more social mobility.
However a shout out goes to the Amazons and their social model for living ð¹ð¹ð¹
If youâre curious about the roles of women in varying Hellenistic and classical contexts, this is a must-read.
Her final words are so interesting and prescient too: âSerious intellectual thought about women continued: Stoicism, the most popular of the Hellenistic and Roman philosophies, directed womenâs energies to marriage and motherhood. The argumentation is brilliant and difficult to refute. And this rationalized confinement of women to the domestic sphere, as well as the systemization of anti-female thought by poets and philosophers, are two of the most devastating creations in the classical legacyâ ð¢ð
Also, if youâre upset by reading about things like sexual slavery and infanticide, it might not be the book for you.
Overall, itâs staying in my collection and Iâll definitely be referring to it again.
