thoughts on the beloved wasian black brothers agenda?

oh this is canon to me. i see them as korean on orion’s side (last name: 현) 🤲 and tbh i think this headcanon is popular but wildly underexplored in the fandom space!

like. the idea of a very wealthy/ancient magical korean family raises interesting questions because korea was a colonized entity not very long ago… there are the atrocities of japanese occupation (!!) and the korean war all within living memory. i recommend looking into the miracle on the han river . i see the black family as such an interesting way to explore that sudden leap from poverty -> prosperity.

in my hc, the black family has always been one of the few lucky aristocratic families in korea. their wealth is ancient, it’s a cushion. but even that doesn’t manage to shield them from the horrors of colonization, they are still reduced and still treated as second-class citizens despite the physical protection their money and status affords. i could see why after this (and after emigrating to england) the blacks are so proud of their heritage, what they’ve survived and accomplished. it’s a double edged sword— we know how awful the blacks can be, in service of preserving tradition.

idk! i think this headcanon gives an explanation for why they’re Like That and adds little more complexity. for a family trying to hold onto a culture that’s being actively suppressed & erased, “forever pure” starts sounding like a more explicable motto.

“사용하는 언어가 사고방식을 결정한다.”

너무 좋다.

정말 확실하지 않나. 언어가 인간의 사고를 구성한다는 것. 왼쪽에서 오른쪽으로 쓰는 문자 쓰기 순서 체계는 자연스럽게 우리가 사고하는 방식을 형성한다. 인간의 무의식까지도 언어로 구조화되어 있다 한다. (영화를 보면 이 부분을 짧게 설명해준다.)

언어는 단순히 말과 글의 수단이 아니다. 언어의 구조는 그 언어권의 시간 순서이며 세계관이다. 왼쪽에서 오른쪽으로 써나가는 문자 배열은 우리의 사고방식을 과거에서 미래로 나아가게끔 만들었다. 선후관계를 잘 따져볼수있도록 규정지어졌다. (그래서 문제 해결도 시간 순서에 맞춘다.)

헵타포트가 쓰는 언어는 원이다. 동그라미. (둥글게 둥글게…) 그들에게 시간은 과거, 현재와 미래가 언제나 동시에 존재한다. 모든 현상을 한꺼번에 경험한다. 인과율 논리가 불필요하다. 시작도 끝도 구분되지 않는 하나로 이어지는 원으로 오로지 현상의 근원에 깔린 하나의 목적만을 지각한다.

인간 세계는 인과론적이다. 언어가 언제나 순차적이기 때문에 시간 순서 개념이 확고하다. 그래서 원인과 결과라는 논리적 관계로 설명한다. (12.3친위 쿠데타가 발생한다 -> 막는다 -> 책임을 묻는다 순)

헵타포트 세계는 운명론적이다. 루이스가 딸의 예견된 죽음을 알고도 사랑하기를 멈추지 않기로 결심한 건 동시적인 헵타포트의 언어를 알고 난 후부터였다. 그녀는 미래를 안다. 이것이 운명은 모두 정해져있고 그 안에서 인간은 미래를 바꿀 수 없는 무력한 존재임을 의미하는 것이 아니다.

미래는 예정되어 있고 미래와 공존하는 현 순간을 최대치로 누릴 수 있는 존재가 된다는 의미다. 그래서 인간은 감정이 있고 상처를 주며 열정을 발산하는 ‘종’인 것이다. 헵타포트에게는 없는.

번민이 없는 헵타포트 언어에 매혹된 나는 그들의 언어 능력을 가지고 싶으나, 지금 쓰는 이 문장도 시제와 순서를 적어놔야 판인데 가능할 리가 없다. 과거 현제 미래를 동시간적으로 느낄 수 있다는 건 어떤 기분일까.

나는 루이스의 근처에도 가지 못하겠지만 오랜 궁리 끝에 한 가지 방법을 시도하고 있다. "그때의 나에게 맡긴다."이다. 인과적인 세계에서 사는 존재가 그때의 자���에게 맡기겠다는 건 미리 재단하지 않고 먼저 속단하지 않겠다는 내 자유의지를 걸고 하는 선언과 같다. 헵타포트의 세계관에서도 인간의 자유의지는 다른 차원으로 작용하는 힘이라 했다.

내 머릿속 여기저기 두둥실 떠있는 영화 컨텍트(Arrival)에 관한 상념을 정리하고 말겠다 시도 했고 생각을 옮겨 적는데 오늘 하루를 전부 썼다. (인간이라 시간 투자를 신경 쓰는 것 보시라.) 최대한 간결하게 쓰고 싶었다. 홀가분하고 기쁘다. 드디어 내 언어로 이 영화를 말할 수 있다.

<아노라>는 77회 칸영화제 황금종려상 수상작이다. 이 타이틀이 영화의 모든 면을 대변하진 않지만 그만큼 훌륭한 작품인가에 대한 의문은 있다. 하지만 오랜 시간을 걸쳐 구축한 감독의 연출관을 시상의 주요 기준으로 본다면 수상 결과에 수긍한다. (기생충도 동일하게 생각함)

<아노라>의 감독 션 베이커는 주로 사회적 약자들 소재로 영화를 만든다. 사실 사회적 약자를 소재로 한 독립영화들은 차고 넘치기 때문에 소재 보다도 연출법이 더욱 중요하다고 생각한다. 션 베이커는 동정과 연민은 배제하고 있는 그대로의 인물을 편견 없이 받아들이게끔 연출한다. <아노라>에 있어 가장 뚜렷한 반증은 본명인 ‘아노라’ 보다 더욱 불리우길 원했던 이름인 ‘애니’를 크레딧에 올려둔 점. 션 베이커의 유머를 곁들인 관조적인 시선은 (마치 평양냉면 같은) 묘한 매력이 있다.

<아노라>의 1막은 하이틴 무비, 2막은 로드 무비, 3막은 성장 영화의 문법을 따른다. 하나의 서사로 얽혀 있지만 막 마다의 연출과 촬영 기법에 큰 차이를 두기 때문에 옴니버스의 형태로 보이기도 한다. 언뜻 보기엔 앞선 두개의 막과 상반되는 3막이 감독이 보여주고자 하는 세계일까 싶지만(엔딩신이 워낙 인상에 깊게 남기도 해서), 션 베이커가 가장 이야기 하고 싶은 동시에 애정을 갖는 시퀀스는 2막에 있다고 생각한다.

이혼을 막기 위해 이반을 찾아나선 애니부터, 생계가 달려 있는 문제이기에 누구보다도 진심인 토로스, 막상 사건 해결에는 별 관심이 없는 가닉과 묵묵히 이 상황을 관찰하는 (감독의 분신과도 같은) 이고르까지. 이반을 찾아나선 네 명의 동상이몽. 이들은 모두 이민자 혹은 그 2세라는 점을 공통점으로 가지고 있다. 넘어지고 깨지고 버려지고.. 뭐 하나 제대로 하는 것 없는 인물들(어떤 기준으로는 사회적 약자인)이 모여 어떻게든 나아가는 것. 그것이 션 베이커가 보는 현 시대의 미국 사회가 아닐까 싶다.

수요일인 오늘 수요예배로부터 시작해서 목,금,은 새벽예배 ( 새벽 세시에 출근하라는 말씀 ..)

금요일은 금요철야 후 토요일 국가안정과 ... 외우기 매우 어려운 긴 이름의 현 시국 안정을 위한 새벽예배 ( 캬 .. 온 몸과 맘을 온전히 드려부러 ..)

그리고 바로 주일이니까 또 새벽 세시반 출근 ㅎㅎㅎ

이러니까 주일 저녁이 가장 반기는 시간이 될수밖에 ㅎㅎㅎ

그렇게 대충 한주 쉬고나서 부활절을 위한 2주간의 새벽예배 .. ( 이때는 철이 28호도 온몸의 꺽이는 부분과 엔진이 다 삐걱거리고 과열되서 퍼지기 직전까지 .. )

왠만한 분들은 지레 겁먹고 도망치고픈 어마무시한 일정인데

이런 일정들을 통해 우리가 얻는것은 그리스도의 소유됨을 통한 하나님의 자녀된 권세다

내가 내 삶의 주인 일때는 이 모든 일정이 불평불만 가득한 시간이다

하지만 그리스도의 소유된 하나님의 자녀에게는 이 기간을 통해 내가 그리스도 안에 있음을 증거할 시간이다

아브라함은 백세에 얻은 아들 이삭을 번제물로 드림으로 그.신앙을 증명 받았고

구원은 생명을 구하는 것이다 그러기에 목숨을 걸고 믿어야 한다

001 ▬▬ kyuhyun has the strangest growth rate in all of meliora. he just continues getting taller, the members are afraid his head might begin scratching the ceiling anytime soon.

002 ▬▬ kyuhyun is the worst person to hit with constructive criticism, not because he's uncooperative or anything, but because he is just so easy to make cry. so the slightest mean thing to him and he cries, send him a sad puppy video and he's sobbing on the ground.

003 ▬▬ for like six years straight kyuhyun was keeping his family afloat. he didn't necessarily enjoy acting, but he was such a need that he was paying their bills for almost a decade before he decided to quit. he would've quit years earlier if he wasn't afraid of completely angering his parents. he still hasn't seen any of that money to this day either..

004 ▬▬ kyuhyun only got a spot in boys over flowers after he begged his mom to let him audition for another show, but then a casting agent caught sight of him and he did another audition that day, then getting a part in boys over flowers in early 2009.

005 ▬▬ kyuhyun will never go back to acting. he's grown a small disdain for it even with how much it built him from the ground, most of the things he acted in were completely against his own will, he only watches his old stuff to laugh at himself.

006 ▬▬ he used to fence for his school's team for a while, but after 2017 it became more of a hobby because his team had to disband. he has still not gotten over it.

007 ▬▬ kyuhyun is easily the member with the craziest solo stans. considering he began his career on screen as the annoying little brother of a main character, he attracted many eyes due to his natural sense of mischief and his knack for quickly improvising his lines, but of course.. his stans are also crazy. a good chunk of his fans are simply sasaengs, most of them are even older than him! they top the list of meliora's craziest solo fans by far, and kyuhyun is always wondering if he should even give them credence or not.

008 ▬▬ kyuhyun hates road trips and wishes to eradicate them all from existence. he gets sick so easily and would rather walk at least seven miles somewhere than get into a car for over two hours.

009 ▬▬ kyuhyun has basically become meliora's main course of transportation. the members use him as a tool, making him carry them literally everywhere. usually it's the shorter members (specifically byeol) that make him carry them around, and he simply agrees to not cause problems.

010 ▬▬ kyuhyun is the only member of meliora who is in a long lasting and very public relationship. he's been dating kiarra of phoenix for a good 6 years, and he's had no problem with making it obvious. he's often said to be the only member with "any sort of game" (which often has hajoon pouting behind screens).
