Last one! Sorry this took over a week to finally get to! Thank you for your patience and enjoy!

“Now, now, don’t be so mean, Yurio.” Victor’s voice was condescending as he nudged his young competitor. “Otabek is trying his best to be your friend. You don’t have to be so rude.”

“Stay out of this, Victor,” Yurio snapped, shoving back in defiance. “I don’t need your stupid help.”

Otabek watched the two of them silently. He wasn’t offended; in fact, he seemed more curious than anything else as he observed the Russians exchange words and push against each other like siblings. To his left and across from Victor sat Yuri Katsuki, who seemed like he wanted to jump in and stop them from fighting but was also afraid of being reprimanded for it.

“Stop treating me like a child!” Yurio finally yelled, shoving his chair back to stand up in a huff.

Victor frowned and reached up to grab his waist, forcing him back into his seat in a flurry of sudden giggles. “Stop acting like one, and I will.”

“Aie! N-No, dohon’t!” Yurio squeaked, shooting a nervous glance at Otabek through his sudden onslaught of soft cackles. Otabek, for his part, was surprised to see that the blonde looked embarrassed for a split second before going back to being angry, this time with a forced grin on his face. “Stohohop!”

“Oh, Otabek, did you know Yurio is ticklish?” Victor asked calmly as though he didn’t have the younger man’s hips in a death grip, digging and kneading to pull even more laughter from him. “It’s especially bad right here!”

Yurio gave up on trying to hold back his reactions in favor of frantically trying to pull Victor’s hands away from him, laughing harder, his smile bright and genuine. He shouted something in Russian that was almost definitely a curse. “Gehehehet off! Stohohohohop! Victor, I’ll kihihihihill you!”

Otabek smiled at the adorable scene and finally spoke up. “Show mercy, Victor. I wasn’t upset to begin with. I know Yuri says a lot of things he doesn’t mean badly.”

Yurio looked incredibly grateful once Victor had released him. He hugged himself and slouched in his seat as if to hide behind or under the table. Then he met his friend’s smiling gaze and blushed, remembering once again how embarrassed he was to have been seen like that.

“So,” Otabek asked casually, “what level of friendship do we need to be at for me to be allowed to tickle you, Yuri?”

Yuri Plisetsky swore he’d never been more flustered in his life.

Yuri groaned as a few hands shoved at him, pushing him and another figure into the closet. “What the fuck?!” He yelled, turning around and trying to open up the closet, even kicking it but to no avail. “Let us the fuck out. I never agreed to this!” There was laughter coming from the other side of the closet. “SEVEN MINUTES!” They yelled, before laughing again, the laughter dying off as he walked away.

Yuri groaned. “Fuck… How did I get into this mess?” he said aloud. He slid down to the floor, content to sit there and ride out this mess. Seven minutes wasn’t that long, right? He looked up at his closet buddy. “Sorry that you got roped into this mess, too.” Yuri’s leather skirt pushed up around his hips, and he adjusted it down a bit. He wore a boat-necked top with long laces sleeves with the words “WICKED ANGEL” on it, with a skull with wings in the middle and three roses.

.... footsteps. hurried ones - without any rhythm or semblance of pattern, only giving off an aura of determination - and not much else. She didn’t recognize the sound, and she stopped her routine mid-step, just as the door to her room opened and the maid whispered something about an escape route, danger - herding her out of the room and opening the secret passageway for a moment, just enough to shove her inside before the door slammed behind her. She was aware that they were on the verge of war - but for Delphinium to be invaded so suddenly, no one had expected this. Of course, it would make sense that misfortune would befall the house of Laurentius first - seeing as they were located on the edge of the realm, and today was a holiday, so all the spelldancers were wearing their traditional garb.

Feeling her way along the dim, narrow path, she heard furniture fall back on the other side of the wall a few times, and with a few quiet twirls and quick steps, the passageway was filled with a dim light that would help her to the end of the passageway - just on the outskirts of the garden, if she was lucky, they wouldn’t have gotten there yet. 

As she neared the door, she considered pausing to perform a revealing spell to ascertain no one was on the other side, but ultimately she decided even this passage would be discovered sooner or later, and time was more important than unlikely scenarios. Near noiselessly, she flew up the last few stairs, pushing the door open - revealing the inside of a storage shed on the edge of the estate. Picking up her skirts, she carefully replaced the door as if it never had been opened, but then heard a sound outside and hurried to hide under a tarp, awkwardly positioning herself between some tools and praying that whoever it was, it wouldn’t be a soldier, and they wouldn’t come inside. It briefly crossed her mind that if only she weren’t in such an inflexible position, she could perform a quick spell for good luck, but that was out of the question now.

A male was walking around Russia with his camera as he took various pictures of famous landmarks. He always loved his photographs, the scenery his canvas and his camera the paintbrush.

He didn’t know what he would do if he never found his love for photography. He might have been working a 9-5 job someplace where it would be dead end after dead end without any fulfillment.

However, he could truly thank one of his idols for his dream becoming real. His cousin, a ex-competitor of women’s figure skating was truly an angel of dance on the ice. He felt that has he had pictures of her, a story would unfold unlike any other.

But now, being 28 years old and having a family of her own, she had moved on to caring for her family. But that didn’t stop his dream, oh no, it just took off further from there.

He let his camera hang around his neck as he walked around, arriving at a large skating rink that appeared to be closed to the public. When he reached for the door, he found it was open and slowly opened it. He didn’t know if it was accidental or if it was fate as he walked inside.

He approached the main skating arena, hearing blades glide and scrape along the ice. He was surprised someone was actually here practicing when it was meant to be closed. When he looked up, he froze in place.

Who he saw on the ice... was an angel with blond hair down to their shoulders and green eyes. If it wasn’t for the black skates they wore, he could have sworn they were a woman... however he knew that wasn’t the case.

As they glided effortlessly along the ice, he had to know... who was he?

Sunday mornings

It was a Sunday morning, quiet and relaxed. The whole Altin family wouldn’t be awake for another hour, but for some reason Sofia was awake already. It was seven in the morning. It was quiet, because everyone was sleeping. It was relaxed, because she could have stayed in bed, for gods sake. But now she was awake. She even knew why. The week before she hadn’t been home, she had only returned yesterday evening and when she did her first action was to go to bed. The whole week before that she had spent paragliding in the mountains that weren’t far from Almaty. Still, she had stayed at a nice place so that she could start flying at sunrise. She was used to getting up early now, so today, the first day she was home again, she did so, too.

Grumpily she had gone down the stairs, silent, not to wake the others. She just wanted to grab some food, maybe something to drink and then go back to bed to maybe read something. But when she found herself in the kitchen she noticed that she was hungrier than initially thought. Just a small snack wouldn’t be enough. And she really craved scrambled eggs now... 

Sofia shrugged, went to the fridge and took out some eggs. She layed them down onto the table and took out a pan. Scrambled eggs weren’t really hard to do. 

A true least it was blissfully silent in the house. This was the only thing that was okay at the moment. Sofia hated waking up early. She hated getting up early. She was a night owl and every time she went against that and was awake before noon, she was insanely grumpy. Except for when she could go flying. Paragliding was the only thing for that she willingly got up early. But now without paragliding or anything else that lifted her mood a slight frown was on her face. At least she would have something to eat soon.

How does a Figure Skating (Senior) Season look like? - A guide for YoI fanfic writers

Since Yuri on Ice mainly deals with the Grand Prix Series and other competitions are only mentioned as a side note, I've noticed that many writers seem to struggle with how a season in figure skating looks like. So here is what I've gathered from my years of watching and research!

Disclaimer: I am only human and I make mistakes. I am by no means saying that this is to be accepted as truth without question. If there are any errors, please tell me and I'll fix them!

The new season starts on July 1st. Hence the July 1st cut off. That means that anyone who hasn't turned 15 by June 30th isn't elligable for Senior competition that season (Which means that even though Yuri Plisetsky was 15 for the World Championship we see in Episode 1, he wasn't allowed to compete there).

On July 1st or the end of June is also when we usually get the Grand Prix Assignments. There are 6 qualifying competitions + the Grand Prix Final.

The 6 qualifying competitions usually are:

Skate Amerika (USA)

Skate Canada International (CAN)

Internationaux de France (FRA) (This season called Grand Prix de France...no one knows why...)

Cup of China (CHN)

NHK Trophy (JPN)

Cup of Russia/Rostelecom Cup (RUS)

This season (22/23) the Cup of China and Russia are replaced (for obvious reasons) by the MK John Wilson Trophy (GBR) and the Grand Prix Espoo (FIN)

The location of the Final changes every season. This season it's in Torino in Italy.

So in July we get the Assignments. Funniest thing about that and something I think is worth including in stories is: The skaters find out the same way we do. By either camping on twitter and waiting for the ISU to tweet that they uploaded them, or by refreshing the website every 5 minutes around the time they or some other source said they'd drop them. This season the assignments dropped on July 22nd...it was nerve wrecking...poor skaters...

The ISU is also located in Switzerland. Assignments drop between 3 and 5 pm. So worst case, Yuuri and Viktor will stare at twitter at 1am in Japan waiting for the ISU to ge their shit sorted out. That's what the triplets where shown doing in the anime xD

But the Grand Prix Series isn't the first thing that happens. For starters, let's look at national competitions...

As for Japan...

First of all, if your skater isn't already qualified for nationals by placing well enough at them the year before (the medalists get "seeded" by the JSF), they need to go to Regionals first (Like Yuuri when he finished 11th at Nationals after the GPF). That's late September, early Oktober depending on the region.

Now, Yuuri technically would have needed to also go to Sectionals after that! Which isn't shown in the anime! That's in late Oktober. Unless Yuuri does finishes on top at sectionals, he's not going to Nationals...

But that wasn't shown in the Anime because it would have been repetitive and Sectionals also overlap with the first two GP events a lot.

As for Russia...

I honestly never cared enough. The men weren't interesting enough imo and Russia is the reason women's singles stresses me tf out and I barely watch it...

But as far as I know, to qualify for Nationals they need to compete in 2 out of 5 stages of the Russian Cup Series. It functions similarly to the ISU Grand Prix. Skaters are seeded immediatly if they are assigned to the ISU Grand Prix or qualify for the Junior GP Final. So neither Viktor, nor Yuri needed to bother with that.

Beforehand however, there are the test skates. They are in early September and that's not a competition. It's literally just a televised program announcement and they get fedback. No points, no medals.

August - December:

Another type of International competition is the Challenger Series. Skaters who are not assigned a GP Event may go there instead. They are ranked below the GP Series and there isn't a final. But the ISU recognizes Personal and Seasons Bests there aswell as World records. Nebelhorn is also used as the final qualifying competition for the last remaining olympic spots.

US International Skating Classic (USA)

Lombardia Trophy (Italy)

Autumn Classic International (Canada)

Nebelhorn Trophy (Germany)

Ondrej Nepela Trophy/Memorial (Slovakia)

Finlandia Trophy (Finland)

Golden Spin of Zagreb (Croatia)

Oktober - December

What you've all been waiting for: The Grand Prix Series

As mentioned before, 6 qualifying competitions: Skate America, Skate Canada Int., Internationaux de France, Cup of China, NHK Trophy, Cup of Russia/Rostelecom Cup. Not always in that order.

They get assigned spots based on their placing in worlds or their ranking in ISU standings. So, unlike I first thought when I watched the Anime (I did not know about the GP Series before), regionals did not matter for Yuuri's Grand Prix spots.

If it had been a minimum score issue, Yuuri would have needed to go to a challenger, like Nebelhorn for example.

If I'm totally honest...I don't know exactly how Yuuri got two spots at all? I just accept GP assignments as they come because I don't really understand how they work... It was either the come back rule, or Yuuri got invited by either China or Russia in addition to his guaranteed spot? I have no clue...he got two, I'm not questioning that further because I legit don't understand. Feel free to enlighten me ^^'

Anyway...skaters can compete in max. 2 competitions. Unlike suggested in YoI, there are actually 12 skaters at each event (8 for pairs).

In the end 6 qualify for the final. There is a point system in Place:

At each event, skaters get awarded points for their placement.

place: 15 points

place: 13

place: 11

place: 9

place: 7

place: 5

place: 4

place: 3

The skaters with the highest amount of points advance to the final. If there is a tie, there are several rules to break the tie. For example: Mickey placed 3rd in both of his events and therefor got 22 points. Yuuri got 2nd and 4th and therefor also had 22 points. But since Yuuri placed higher than Mickey in one of his events, Yuuri advanced to the final.

Then the final takes place in early to mid December.

December:

Important for YoI are Japanese and Russian Nationals, which usually fall around Christmas each year. That's where it is determined who is send to the Four Continents or European Championships, aswell as the World Championships.

January/Feburary:

That's when 4CC/Euros usually take place. I suggest looking up dates for the year you are setting your story in or just decide yourself if you want. It's fanfiction after all :D

Also usually in Feburary if relevant: The Olympics.

March:

Late March are the World Championships. And with that the competitive season ends. Unless you want to include the Team Trophy...but I don't really bother with that.

April-July:

Also if you want to use an IRL competition as a guide for scoring, program layouts etc... just google "ISU results (insert competition you want to use)". A page should come up that has detailed results with scoring sheets. E.g. Worlds 22

Another Note:

For ISU events the starting order for the short is as far as I understand usually determined by draw. The groups are seperated by ISU rankings. So the first 6 in the standings will be skating in the last group, and draw from the last 6 starting numbers.

For the free there usually is reversed starting order (like in YoI, the person who placed first in the short skates last), though I have also heard that sometimes they draw again based on those standings that time.

Also, there is an exhibition gala and a banquet after almost each of these competitions ;)

“I’m not going to wear that.”

Mila tried to hide her smile. “Oh, come on, Yuri. It would look fabulous on you.”

“It’s a dress.” Yuri wrinkled his nose in distaste before glancing down at his phone and giving the latest update from Victor a withering glance. He and his husband looked ridiculously happy in front of the Tokyo Tower together. It made him roll his eyes.

“You can look good in anything,” she tried.

“I know that,” he replied confidently, brushing some hair from his eyes to properly glare at her. “But that doesn’t mean I want to wear a dress.”

Mila pouted. “Come on~ Soon you’ll start to grow more and you won’t be able to pull it off. Now’s your best chance! I bet Victor would love it.”

“Victor would just like the pictures to post online to make a laughingstock of me.” Yuri waved her off. “Forget it, Mila.”

She took a step back and put a finger to her lips as though appraising him for a moment. He watched her, squinting, refusing to give in to her games by asking what she was doing. After a bit, and still with an intrigued look on her face, she took a step closer to him.

Yuri was giggling before he even realized she’d put her hands around his waist and started tickling his hips.

“Mihihihihila! Dohohohohohon’t!” he cried, using one hand to cover his involuntary smile and the other to frantically try pushing her away.

With a smile of her own, Mila pushed him against the wall of the rink, trapping him where he was. “You looked upset, Yuri. If you don’t want to wear the dress, you should at least wear a smile, you know~”

Yuri shouted at her in Russian, squirming as she worked her way up his sides to squeeze at his ribs. “Aiee! Quihihihihit that!”

“If I promise to forget the dress, will you promise to smile for me?”

Blushing furiously, Yuri clamped his arms to his sides, unleashing the full brilliance of his giggling smile. “Yehehehes, fine, okahahahahay, you witch! Lehehehehet me go!”

Mila released him as requested and took a step back, putting her hands on her hips expectantly. After a moment of collecting himself, Yuri glanced up at her with a tiny grin that looked almost shy. She decided she loved it and nodded approvingly. “Much better.”

Yuri looked up at him, leaning back in the seat he’d been sitting in. Something was obviously bothering Phichit. The two of them weren’t super close, but he had nothing against the Thai skater. Part of him wanted why the fuck he was even telling him this, but if Phichit was telling him this, maybe he just needed someone to talk to? Why did that have to be Yuri, though? He wasn’t good at this shit!

“Okay, I can understand that,” he said. “What happened?” Yuri didn’t mind feeling like he belonged to someone; that helped him feel more secure, but he knew that not everyone else agreed.
