my totally 100% correct opinion on which haikyuu ships would go canon if it were heterosexual

Kagehina: yes. regardless of which of them were a girl. however they would not get together within the canon of the show but have 1 or 2 almost kisses and then after the series ended you'd find out they got married. Like there'd be 2 lines total talking about them getting married and thats it.

Tsukkiyama: yes. regardless of which of them were a girl. they'd be together at the start of the series and be a relatively boring couple basically just there to make weird heteronormative quips (if yamaguchi were the girl, tsukki would roll his eyes a lot at having to go shopping, etc, and if tsukki were the girl, yamaguchi would be way too insecure about other guys looking at her) BUT late in the series there would be a short arc dedicated to them breaking up and then immediately getting back together and I hate to tell you, it would be cute.

Daisuga: my heart and soul - not in any fucking universe. I dont think there would even be jokes or innuendos about it. I think if Suga were the girl there would even be moments of Daichi like straight up not realizing it. "wdym you cant change with us???" bitches are the Pillars of Reliability for Karasuno they wouldnt bother giving them relationships.

Asanoya: if noya were the girl, yes. If Asahi were the girl, no. Noya could be a fiesty little girlfriend but they'd be too chicken to give a short man a big, bashful ladyfriend and that is the ONLY reason they wouldnt be canon.

Iwaoi: sorry to break it to you but probably not. the writers would be pouting and slamming their fists around like "nooooo they see each other like siblings, we wanted to show male-female friendships were possibleeeeee." however I think the chances would be slightly higher if Iwa were the girl. In that annoying tsundere way of "oh she's never going to admit she likes the guy everyone else also likes" but it would probably only be implied, never canon.

Kyohaba: yes! if Yahaba was the girl. Their entire thing would be switched to "kyotani finding a girl who smacks him around and decides to devote himself to her" where Yabaha would pretend she hates it. Less chance if Kyotani were the girl but I suppose not impossible.

Ushiten: Complicated. I think in general if they were male-female their friendship would play a bigger role. But it would be canon if Ushijima were a girl. Only because of the double standard for women. In the same way that all women characters eventually have children even if they claim they dont like them initially, I think the writers would be too chicken to let a woman be mean and formidable and stern and they would have to temper her with her quirky, ecclectic best friend/boyfriend to make sure people understand she's still Woman. They would be canon within the actual text and not just implied/afterwards but it would only be given enough screen time to establish Ushijima as a feminine woman and then be forgotten so Ushijima could proceed to beat the shit out of whatever team they were up against next. However if Tendou were the girl she would 100% have an overt and obvious crush on Ushijima (probably literally saying she was in love with him out loud) BUT they would let Ushijima keep his intensity and it would only serve to make Tendou quirkier and/or played as a joke, it wouldnt be canon.

Arankita: No! Only because if Kita were a girl, Atsukita would be canon. And I think if Aran were a girl, they would be given a much stronger Best Friends energy in that "male-female friendship" way. both a female kita or a female aran would still be "one of the boys."

Bonus: Atsukita: Yes, but only in promotional media or extras, they wouldnt give screen time to it. Like there'd be a bunch of promotional stuff of like Atsumu picking Kita up or teasing her. yknow.

Bokuaka: Yes, obviously, geez. Doesnt matter which is the girl. Thet would already be in a relationship from the time theyre introduced.

Kuroken: Yes, but they wouldnt get together. It would be like a slow burn where they keep looking at each other with flowers in the background, but it would feel like the writers forgot to put them together. Like the series would end and everyone would go "huh. weird we never got a kuroken confession but alright" No kisses, no hand holding, but like 12 extra minutes of gazing at each other and blushing. But only if Kenma was the girl. If Kuroo was the girl they'd be too chicken á la Asanoya and would instead pull an Iwaoi.

Rarepairs as a general rule are a "No" just due to them not being canon for reasons unrelated to gender, however, I want to shoutout these rarepairs:

Kogagoshi: Wouldnt be canon due to not enough screen time, but regardless of who was the girl, Kogane would have been used as a joke developing a spontaneous crush on Goshiki for the camp that is basically just there for comedic relief

Kenhina: regardless of who was the girl this would be an UNBERABLE implied attraction that serves only to create drama between Kagehina. Like nobody who's read love stories with love triangles before would ever think theyd end up together but the writers would try their fucking best to convince you this was plausible over the obviously intended endgame of kageyama.

hey babe guess who finished season two

I DID! I DID!

I’m HYPED AS FUCK TO SEE THE SHIRATORIZAWA MATCH. And disappointed to discover there’s only ten episodes this season. I’m already half done with the series help-

I mentioned that I’ve been on my winter break and haven’t been posting my reactions, but I’ve been watching! And oh, OH OH OH, I HAVE THOUGHTS.

Let’s get my favorite scene from today’s episode out of the way:

So I scrolled back through my notes and read through to get my big points or exclamations. In order of the episodes since the one after Daichi’s death:

THE SCENE WHERE UKAI FUCKING THREW TAKEDA OFF THE BENCH TO SAVE HINATA FROM CRASHING WAS A DELIGHT TO WATCH. Look at that man fly! How much do these benches weigh because I know at my high school they weren’t super heavy but I’m pretty sure you usually grabbed them from the middle at least (just to balance the weight). I don’t know. He’s just a good coach and I appreciate him. RIP Takeda say hi to Daichi for me

Daichi lives!!! Obviously I knew that already but it was good to see him back! I wasn’t totally sure how many matches he’d be out for, but I’m glad he was back for the Seijou match. No shade to Ennoshita but I don’t think Karasuno would’ve won without Daichi. Also RIP the rest of Daichi’s body because Suga and Nishinoya fully attacked him when they saw he was okay

The Seijou-Date Tech match was wild to see too. KOGANE!!! I know you only vaguely but I love this giant boy already. He’s trying his hardest, alright! And it’s always good to see Aone! This man is one of my favorite giants in the show. He’s a silent sweetie. But anyway, the match itself was ooooooh. Not Asahi calling Oikawa a “cool cat” in the English dub- I love this man. I need to marry this man. I obviously knew Seijou was gonna win but PIERCING THROUGH THE IRON WALL HOLY SHIT. IWAIZUMI HAJIME THE MAN THAT YOU ARE-

OH ALSO I FORGOT ABOUT THIS AND IDK WHAT EPISODE IT’S FROM BUT THE LITTLE MOMENT WHERE THEY SCORE A POINT OR SOMETHING AND ASAHI LIFTS HINATA UP LIKE IT’S NOTHING? I need to lie down.

I love how Seijou is this big shot team with seemingly no-nonsense players but they are entirely unserious. That one guy trying to get Yachi’s attention by tossing a ball in her direction and then running after it? Comedy gold. Hajime and the other two third years picking on Oikawa about his serves? Friendship at its finest (I love them). Mad Dog not listening to Oikawa for almost the entire match? Only respect for my rowdy king who I now ship with Seijou’s number six. I read a fic for them last night and enjoyed it very much, thank you. Iwaizumi being the only person (until 6 confronts him) who Mad Dog respects because he’s the only one who can beat him? Love this pack dynamic. They’re so unserious and they seriously grew on me in this match (and the last one, but that was lessened by them beating Karasuno).

I spent a lot of time in the Seijou match just screaming and flailing about. There were some wicked cool plays in this game. Asanoya did their own attack (Noya setting to Asahi and him spiking it), Tsukki had some incredible blocks, Daichi was digging up balls all over the place, Kagehina and their fucking quick attacks, just Hinata on his own, SUGA’S BIG PLAY OH MY GOD, Tanaka had a lot of great moments and I was right there screaming with Saeko, aND WE CANNOT FORGET THE BOY HIMSELF: MY DEAREST YAMAGUCHI AND HIS MANY SERVICE ACES. I WAS SO FUCKING PROUD OF HIM LOOK AT HIM FUCKING GO OH MY GOD. He brought us back from the dead and I was HYPED. AND HE AND SUGA WEREN’T THE ONLY ONES WITH GREAT SERVES. ASAHI GOT HIS SERVICE ACE TOO LET’S GOOOOOO!!!

*singsong voice* Oikawa’s serves fucking scare me. And while we’re at it so do Mad Dog’s unholy spikes. Nah but seriously. Oikawa would go up to serve and I’d be sitting here like “I hear boss music. Why the fuck do I hear literal boss music.”

There were some really great Tsukki-encouraging-Yamaguchi-but-in-the-way-that-only-Tsukki-can moments in the last few episodes. Like, my Tsukkiyama heart aside, he really pays attention to Tadashi. He knew how hard he’d been working. He actively encouraged him multiple times. And Yamaguchi really gets him and they are so BEAUTIFUL. SLAMMING MY HANDS DOWN ON THE NONEXISTENT TABLE

A quote from my document: “They really cut my son off like that- Hajime I love you but HEADS GONNA ROLL” But Yamaguchi’s serve was legitimately ART. If Iwaizumi were even a fractionally worse player, Yams would have nailed that point and it would’ve been over. But unfortunately, Iwa’s an excellent ace

I was literally just vibrating through those last two plays. Shaking me to my core, my heart was racing, the whole thing. This match was bad for my health. That being said, OH MY GOD KAGEYAMA’S SETTER DUMP AND THEN HINATA GETTING THE FINAL POINT AND MANAGING TO GET IT PAST OIKAWA BECAUSE OF SEIJOU’S OWN BLOCKERS- AHHHHHHHH

nah but Seijou being so broken up over the loss actually hurt me a little. Where do I find the scene where they’re in a gym and Oikawa walks up and thanks them for the three years before everyone starts crying? Is that next season somewhere? I know it’s not in season 4 because the animation matches seasons 1-3. Also Iwa being upset at himself and his friends just smacking him on the back in silent encouragement and comfort (literally just hug each other like normal people. Fucking MEN am I right /j) just- Hajime is my favorite on Seijou. I think Oikawa is the fan favorite for them, but I like Iwazumi Hajime. That’s my guy right there.

THE GROUP KARASUNO HUG TURNED INTO A BIG PILE GOD BLESS. They have to end up in a pile once a season I guess. I also loved how much everyone was supporting them. Saeko’s enthusiasm was delightful to watch (speaking of, lucky Yachi if you know what I mean- ). And then all of those students and teachers sticking around to celebrate their win!! My boys are getting the recognition they deserve! Except from the news but that’s not surprising.

I have ten episodes to become endeared to Ushijima and Shiratorizawa (aside from Tendou who I already love). We will see how I feel. But when that confrontation between Ushijima and Oikawa happened I was just like YOU FUCKING TELL HIM TŌRU. GET HIS ASS. NOW STRUT OFF LIKE THE BAD BITCH YOU ARE- YEAHHHHHHH

I love the fact that Hinata and Kageyama stayed to practice more. That’s just so very them. Thems my idiot sons. And Yachi is just a victim to their magnetic enthusiasm. And the little fist bump at the end!!! They’re so cute. Besties. Boyfriends, even. BOYS THAT CONFRONT USHIWAKA TOGETHER STAY TOGETHER WOOOOO

So, Noya has the doctor write the sex on an index card and instead of going straight home and waiting for Asahi to get out of work he goes to the bakery because he’s just so excited.

Aya and Asahi were setting out bread to proof in the backroom of the bakery while Tsubame was out in the front sweeping. As Tsubame swept the dirt from the day up into a dustpan, she was startled by the sound of the front door opening and jumped up.

“Oh, sorry I didn’t mean to scare you.” Nishinoya apologized, stifling back a laugh.

“It’s okay, I’m alright.” Tsubame scooped up the dirt and then poured it into a trash can, “Is that what I think it is?” she pointed at an envelope in Nishinoya’s hands, “Is that the sex of the pup?”

“Yes it is!” Nishinoya excitedly exclaimed, he put his hand on his hips, proudly and called for his husband and daughter, “Asahi, Aya!”

Aya came running out from the back room and hopped over the cashier counter instead of walking around it like Asahi.

Tsubame rolled her eyes, “She’s such a show off.”

Aya laughed, she put an arm around Tsubame’s shoulders and kissed her on the cheek, “So, Dad what do you have there?”

Nishinoya handed the envelope to Asahi, “This right here is the sex of baby number five for the Azumane family.”

Asahi took the envelope and picked at the flap, then asked, “Did you want to open this now, or wait until Nao and Kin come home from practice?”

“I’d like to find out now.” Nishinoya stated.

“Same, same!” Aya agreed, equally as impatient as her father, “We’ll just tell them when they get home.”

Asahi and Nishinoya exchanged glances

Unknown to the parents of the Azumane children, all four kids had placed bets on the baby’s sex. Aya was the only one who bet on girl and was hoping to use her winnings to add to her savings for an engagement ring for Tsubame. Aya actually had no idea how much money she had saved up, but she’d been saving up for a ring since she was in middle school.

“Then we’ll open this now.” Asahi lifted the envelope flap and Nishinoya pulled the index card out.

The couple paused and stared at the single word on the card and smiled.

“So, are you going to share?” Aya asked, “Am I going to have to deal with another baby brother or are you guys making me a little sister?”

Nishinoya grabbed Asahi’s hand and gave the index card to Aya, saying, “It’s a girl.”

“It is!?”

“Yes.”

Aya squealed excitedly, and hugged Tsubame, she was acting as if she and her omega were the ones expecting a little girl.

Nishinoya laughed, “Well, someone’s really happy.”

“Of course I am!” Aya declared, “I’m going to get a little sister!”

Kagehina: Kageyama proposed after his graduation ceremony, they couldn’t decide on a surname so they mixed theirs and made “Hinakage” (Hinakage Tobio and Hinakage Shoyo) they live in an apartment on the edge of Tokyo. They’d mutually agreed that they didn’t have time to take care of a kid and just dedicated that time to helping Natsu through school

Tsukkiyama: got engaged at the end of their third year of high school and moved (well, more like ran away together) to another prefecture after college. they live together in a small apartment, they are inseparable. although Yamaguchi is very good with kids they wanted to be the only person the other loved. plus Tsukishima can’t stand small children

Daisuga: Daichi proposed in their second year of college. they lived in a flat together until they graduated and moved to a house in Kyoto. Because of their jobs they both work late but they always make sure to spend time together in the evenings. Suga would’ve adopted several children but decided to work as a kindergarten teacher instead

Asanoya: got engaged after college, Nishinoya travels a lot and has a habit of just coming home without telling Asahi and surprising him. As well as having a house on the edge of the prefecture, they own a little cottage up in Hokkaido. They’ve thought about having kids but are still undecided

Ennotana: got engaged in their third year of college. they had already moved in together but bought a house in the suburbs of Kyoto. they adopted a little boy (who ended up being in Sugas kindergarten class) and live a normal family life

Kiyoyachi: got engaged as soon as Yachi graduated. they moved to the coast but stayed in the Miyagi prefecture. Yachi wanted to live out her dream as a bakery core lesbian, so while she runs a little bakery, Kiyoko gets the train everyday to go and run her sports store. they adopted a pair of twin girls after being married for 4 years

Iwaoi: Iwaizumi went to college in California but got engaged to Oikawa the summer after their third year, they then got married in the summer of their first year of college. when Iwaizumi moved back to Japan, they lived in the suburbs for about a year before deciding to adopt a boy (2 at the time of adoption) and a girl (6 months) when Oikawa wasn’t at practice or travelling for games he would spend all the time he had at home with his kids and Iwaizumi

Ushiten: got engaged and married after college. They needed to move close to Tokyo for Ushijimas job but on the condition that Tendou got to choose the house. When they’re not busy they like to go into the city together and just walk around, sometimes they catch a train back to Miyagi and go to all their old date spots. they adopted a little boy after being married for 3 years

Yakulev: Lev moved out halfway through his third year in high school (due to his homophobic parents) and Yaku moved in when Lev entered college. They got engaged in Levs second year of college and married after he graduated. They ended up deciding not to adopt kids, but they look after the neighbours kids and Levs sisters kids all the time

Ahhhh thank you so much for the ask!! I’m so sorry it took me so long to answer it 😥

1) Tell us about your current project(s)  – what’s it about, how’s progress, what do you love most about it?

So I don’t actually have a single project I’m working on at the moment 😅 But I did just finish two big ones! One was my first ever multi-chapter fic (and boy howdy does it show), and the other is a piece for a Big Bang event that I’ll be publishing on the 28th! 🤩

The multi-chapter fic is the 500 millionth take on how Hinata and Kageyama may have started dating in canon 🥴 I did absolutely nothing groundbreaking whatsoever, but I had such a fun time writing so many of my favorite hq characters, and I ended up finding a little community of readers who would come back with every update and leave the sweetest comments in the world?? It was so nice and so humbling 😭💖

I don’t wanna share/spoil too much about the other piece before I publish it, but I will say that it’s an AsaNoya piece about (once again) how they may have ended up dating, except in the timeskip. This was my first time writing and editing a full piece before publishing it, including getting a beta reader on it, and it was such a cool, eye-opening experience. What I love most about it is how much my artist and beta reader love it. The artist created an absolutely stunning piece of art for the piece, and then told me that they hoped THEY had done justice to my story?? Absolutely bonkers.

4) Share a sentence or paragraph from your writing that you’re really proud of (explain why, if you like)

Kageyama’s lips pulled into a small frown, at odds with the way his eyes gleamed and his fingers tightened around Shoyo’s.

It’s not very impressive, but that’s kind of why I’m proud of it? I can be overly-flowery with my writing sometimes, and I feel like this sentence was an instance where I was able to express a characters actions and inner world in a very simple, straightforward, but still effective way.

23) What’s the story idea you’ve had in your head for the longest?

Oh god there’s so many. I have two Bokuaka stories - a spin on the Orpheus and Eurydice tragedy, and a shapeshifter au - that I’ve been tapping away at for months now. I have fragments of a Banana Fish story. I’ve got a Dark Souls 3 Dancer of the Boreal Valley backstory thingamajig that I got a good start on and never finished. I’ve got two different timeskip Kagehina pieces. A piece where I kinda messily compared ItaFushi to Patroclus and Achilles. A Shinkane Wolf Children AU?? A Haikyuu Dark Souls 3 au????

Just…so many. And hardly any of them make any sense lmao
