Weirdly enough, while this isn't his first time visiting this world, it is his first time experiencing the transformation glamors that Sora had talked about. Normally, his Somebody told him, it was Donald who handled the transformations to blend everyone in. Naturally, Roxas hadn't known anyone who knew magic like that when he was sent here on Organization business, so he visited unchanged ( maybe the black coat made him blend in acceptably enough ). But now, with everyone from that tournament's Mansion being affected? It seems like the magic came from the town itself, and was spreading to every visitor.

Which is why, when Roxas realized he didn't feel particularly undead, or ghostly, or monstrous, he had to quirk an eyebrow. He got a nice new outfit out of the magic, but, well...was he supposed to feel super different?

Content to simply accept a fun costume as part of the visit, he's ready to make his way to the hotel, content to be mostly unchanged...

...Until his coat sleeve snags on a poorly maintained barbed wire fence, pulling at a seam on his shoulder and exposing the straw inside.

Huh.

He's gonna have to get that fixed.

The people want the transfem sora meta and thus they will get it

the simplest and most obvious reasoning is the one I’m gonna get out of the way first, and honestly it’s enough to justify this headcanon forever and ever by itself: when sora’s Others aren’t ven, they’re girls. every single time.

Im not saying that roxas isn’t sora’s nobody or that he’s more ven’s than sora’s or something (because that’s not true), but I am saying that roxas looks like ven and clearly takes some of his personality cues from ven. and roxas is a boy. vanitas is ven’s darkness, and vanitas is a boy.

xion is sora’s memories, and xion is a girl. and namine is “kairi’s heart and sora’s body” and she’s a girl. (NAMINE IS TRANS—). canonically this is because of their tangential associations with kairi (sora’s memories taking the form of his most important person whatever etc) but… they’re still sora’s. most times sora is reborn, he’s reborn as a girl

Moving onto some actual analysis though, I think that sora speaks to the transfeminine experience because he doesn’t actually really ask for any of this shit

it’s not like I can point to a specific moment where sora expresses dislike or even a lack of personal association with masculinity because— masculinity is the default, right? why would sora dislike being masculine?

buuuuuut… he kinda does? If I parrot the gendered framework for my kairi analysis— i.e. that keyblade wielding is a masculine ideal of strength, then… while sora technically achieves that ideal, it’s 1) not taken seriously by other characters (he’s even mocked by the narrative for how “bad” of a keyblade wielder he is!) and 2) was something thrust upon him, something that he adapted to, not something he asked for or wanted.

sora struggles against his own dislike of his position pretty textually; he spends all of kh1 resenting the keyblade before he’s forced to truly claim and embrace it, by the time ddd happens he’s so exhausted of it all that he walks dead on into a trap, and he spends all of kh3 getting mockingly negged by everyone he’s supposed to be friends with

and I reaaaally wanna emphasize that last one; how sora’s seen by other characters. something that happens to a lot of trans people I think is that… because our internal perceptions of ourselves, whether we’re aware of them or not, actually really effect what we absorb socially and how we move and act, even subconsciously… like, this is why it’s common for trans girls irl to come off a certain way, or to be treated with pretty textbook sexism prior to even coming out, and the way that other characters treat sora reminds me so viscerally of this phenomena. It’s vivid.

sora’s mocked but he’s not allowed to say anything about it; they mean it as a joke but he’s not comfortable expressing how insecure it really makes him feel. They’re pointing out that he’s failing at something— failing to be strong— failing to be a boy? and if he says that makes him uncomfortable then that will… reveal something? Reveal what? Sora isn’t sure, but he knows he shouldn’t reveal it.

plus… no shade to riku or anything, but the way he treats sora in kh1 SCREAMS of “I think you’re beneath me.” his reaction to sora having the keyblade is such palpable disgust at the thought of someone Lesser than him having acces what he thinks is respectable; what he thinks Should Be His. like… lol?

sora’s just kind of… checking off boxes, right? He’s doing what he’s told, absolutely scrambling against himself to accommodate Everyone, All The Time, like with the kind of fervor that speaks to someone who doesn’t believe he will have friends at all if he doesn’t Serve them in some capacity.

sora also gets along better with girls [shrugs]. He and kairi yknow, gestures vaguely at belle and ariel, i don’t know that you’d know this Nessie but sora spends the entire tangled world beating out flynn rider for rapunzel’s attention lol, etc

on a more allegorical level too… rage form… feeling like there’s Something Wrong inside of you… something that you’re ashamed of, that betrays your Wrongness, that you don’t want to come out lest others judge you… idk…

like with my kairi meta, none of this only applies to a transfeminine reading, but all of it does apply to a transfeminine reading. masculinity is sora’s prison that keeps him exhausted and insecure. I just think that femininity could be her escape

on an only tangentially related note, I actually don’t agree with most other tgirl sora truthers that she’d be butch. I think sora would be superrrrrr fem like she’d spend the first multiple years of her transition dressing in as many girly styles as she can possibly think of before she settles back on cargo pants and [NEW!!] spaghetti strap tank tops with cute designs. I love you sora!!!!!

Checkmate-An Analysis of KH3’s Opening

Kingdom Hearts 3 has one of if not the best opening in all of Video games and that is thanks to how it uses only visuals to tell the story of Sora and Xehanort.

The Opening to KH3 starts off just like that of Kh1 and KH2, with an opening monologue from Sora reflecting the themes of the games. However KH3 quickly deviates from the path of previous games openings by switching from Sora to Young Xehanort, establishing the framing device of the opening. Kh3’s opening is told not from the perspective of Sora but instead a Young Xehanort as he practices late into the night for his next game with Eraqus. And as he is about to begin he stares into the sky witnessing a star of Darkness, symbolic of how he already set on his road to darkness. This sets up the framing device of Kh3’s opening as Young Xehanort subconsciously plans the events of the Dark seeker saga while he plays. Every move of the game corresponds to a terrible tragedy. It adds so much more weight to opening. Firstly because it gives Xehanort more depth of a character by showing that all of his terrible actions stemmed from something as simple and innocent as a child playing a game. And secondly because it adds a metanarrative to Kingdom Hearts by showing that the events series are contextualized through a game both in and out of universe. Eventually the framing device ends with the events of the Second Keyblade War beginning as Xehanort’s piece put Sora's piece in Checkmate, transitioning from Xehnort’s innocent past to his corrupted Present.

While the Opening of KH3 is framed around Xehanort it is not solely his narrative as we see Sora ever so briefly break free from the framing device cutting through the darkness and creating a Doors of Light for all those that he will save, like Ventus and Roxas, as well as those that he has already saved, Like Riku and Lea. This ultimately highlights what Kingdom Hearts 3 is truly about. It is a story about Sora breaking free from Xehanort’s carefully constructed narrative in order to save others. However the motif of the Door of Light doesn't just end with Sora’s friends as we see Sora open it one last time for Xehanort. Yes as the Opening draws to a close we see Sora aim one finally Keybeam not at Xehanort himself but rather at the darkened sky, allowing the sun to return and For Xehanort himself to be bathed in its beautiful light returning him to his innocent past. Hinting that perhaps Xehanort too will be saved by sora

The opening ends on two parallel shots with both Sora and Xehanort having received one another’s game pieces. This is the most important moment in the whole Opening as it shows that despite their differences Sora and Xehanort share the same core. After all, both grew up under the same sky.

Kingdom Ponies!! Sea Salt trio edition!! 🩵

Last post, I got requests for design notes so first off, all Organization members are branded with the Recusant's sigil. For ponies, this replaces their cutie mark.

Axel being a griffon layers with his insecurities, he doesn’t have a mark like ponies do so he worries he will be forgettable, especially after leaving the organization. His name reflects this; an old memory that’s fading at the edges. Vignette also means to recount evocatively with nostalgia.

Roxas’ design is a fusion of Sora (Easy Breezy) and Ven’s (Windfall) most notably he gets Sora’s crown shaped fur tuffs. His cutie mark is supposed to emulate his X shaped symbol and he’s the only character with mismatched hoof tones. His name is very literal but as an idiom, it reflects Roxas’ role in the organization!

Pareidolia is the act of seeing faces in things that do not. She’s also a changeling! Changelings feed off of energy and affection so just like in Days, she’s accidentally absorbing Roxas throughout. Reformed changelings are very colorful so I based the tones on Thalassa shells. She also gets a pony form-just like white lies, she resembles pinky promise. Together they both make up Kairi’s alicorn status (Xion pegasus Namine unicorn) Xions main seashell on her mark is shaped like the organization symbol. In the story, her cutie mark would change depending on who sees her, before she establishes her identity
