I need more selkie theon (and asha. I just think that would be a vibe. fuck the greyjoy sigil being a kraken for a moment and let them be seals) content.

like the opportunity to have theon's coat taken by ned when he's made his ward is right there and it is perfect and beautiful and tragic.

and you could build on that depending on the version of the selkie myth/story you're going off of (I personally love the song of the sea version of selkies for story writing). maybe he can't talk without it, maybe he gets sick, maybe his voice has magical properties of sorts.

I have this one concept in my head that I don't have the time to write, but it goes something along the lines of theon getting sick after years away from his coat and the stark kids have to find his coat and drag his slowly dying ass to the bay of seals (cause y'know bay of seals and theon's a selkie so he'll turn into a seal... I thought it was creative).

also, in a lot of versions of selkies, when they get sick, their hair turns white, which is on brand for theon. they're also pretty, their stories are typically soaked to the bone in tragedy, they're normally held captive/tortured, amongst other things, which are also very on brand for theon.

and maybe you get some selkie to selkie telepathy of sorts, so when theon finally enter the water a seal again, asha books it to come find him, cause its been years since she's been able to feel him (I'm soft for them, I will create the most improbable and ridiculous scenario's to bring them together and for them to have soft sibling moments).

all and all, theon being a selkie is something I need more content of, please and thank you.

i've thought about it a bit (and i'm not trying to make a point, just talking through some observations) and it's interesting to compare and contrast how fire emblem awakening and fire emblem fates decided to handle the whole 'having the child characters be adults and interact with their parents and be roughly the same age as them' thing to allow the child characters to be playable units, and how fe awakening just. did it a lot better than fe fates.

i mean, awakening integrated it really well into the story, using the setup of lucina traveling back into the past and having the other child characters travel with her, not even all at once, mostly with the intention of fixing events and reconnecting with and possibly even saving their parents. It's an interesting setup, the child characters originating from a ruined world, many of them having had to watch their parents die, given a chance to meet those parents and see when the world was properly safe. it's different for each character, too, which is really cool, leveraging their differing relationships with their parents and the fact that they are in an unfamiliar world, as a lot of them are just... travelers, doing good and finding a place in this new world, while others seek out their parents. Each of them have different situations, and different relationships with their parents, and in turn, the parents have different relationships with their children, ranging from being happy to have this chance to meeting them to being skeptical of if this person actually is their future child. it's a well-done setup and it's executed really well and baked into the child character's supports and character really well.

in fates, it's... not explained? not surprisngly, with how hand-wavey the worldbuilding is, two characters marry and have a kid and then toss that kid in some weird... other world where time moves faster relative to the world the story happens in, so the child characters range from adolescents to adults and all have some flavor of daddy issues or just. are happy to see their parents at all since it was less a matter of their parents are dead and more their parents kind of. ditched them and let them grow up in some weird other world seperate from them? it's not explained and just results in half of the child characters having very similar parental issues or just being generally happy to see their parents, nothing all too complicated, but the presentation and story integration is. weak at best.

(i also can't help but feel like that in your first time through fe awakening it's a lot harder to tell that the secondary parent's support dialogue with the kids is just standard dialogue that is used for all secondary parent possibilities with that child, while i could tell a bit more in fe fates. in awakening, the dialogue was fairly general and sometimes vague enough to allow for the secondary parent's personalities, and i think both games alter some of that general dialoge to match if that parent has a specific way of talking, while in fates, a lot of it hinged on the secondary parent (more often than not hte mother) being strangely domestic (lots of mentioned of like. the child being home for dinner or the mother being a support or smth) to the point where it would clash with the character's actual personality. i mean, it's not flawless in awakening either, but it's just a lot shakier in fates, in my opinion)

Professor, I hate wearing the school uniform; it's so uncomfortable and itchy. Can I have a pass to wear my regular clothes instead? Why do I have to wear a uniform?

Maybe you can talk with the tailors about it to pick a fabric you prefer. But you must wear the uniform. That way the teachers know you're a student and not some people from the town. Careful with lice and itchy plants.

He didn't have to wear the uniform so Byleth couldn't exactly relate, but the uniform seemed quite fine from what he saw? And it had a lot of variations between students, so a change of fabric wasn't too much of a request, was it?

A Proper Ending

This is a paired ending rewrite between Dwyer and Selkie from Fates! I took inspiration from the longer paired endings in Three Houses to add a little more into their lives after the ending! I hope you like it~

Selkie - Free Spirit & Dwyer Sleepy Butler

Without battle to hold Selkie's attention, she grew ever more restless and playful, often spending days at a time doing nothing but running and jumping in the woods, much to her husband's, Dwyer, dismay. They settled down in a forested area close to the castle as Dwyer continued to serve as a butler, but after a few years of being high in demand for his tea-extraction techniques, he retired with Selkie into the forest, never to be seen again. Once in a while, Kaden would find wherever Selkie's whims had taken them next, but the two lived a fulfilling life together, out of anyone's eyes.
