My fics for stray gods mostly come in sapphic, particularly Calliope/Persephone because they're so angry and messy and delightful and writing Calliope soothes my inner menace. The first I ever wrote was Kore Enterprises, filling in the missing scene of Persephone visiting Calliope's apartment.

I expore Calliope and Persephone first getting together in Firewater, which probably still has one of the better opening paragraphs I've managed recently.

Calliope is used to Persephone on the edges of things. A cautionary tale for late night drinks and the bluer days of late autumn, when the city parks are full of crows fighting over the night’s scraps amongst raw and jagged trees, their final leaves are just the shed skins of their livelier, younger selves. A fragile song through tiny bones.

I wrote You caught my voice and listened as a response to @kshaar's Earworm, which is such a good drabble istg. Everything they write is incredible, whether for stray gods or dragon age, you should read all of it. But Earworm was the one that had me seeing if I could remember enough Greek to mangle some Sappho. It's also, like most of my fics for these characters, full of extravagant eidolon lore.

I have one Calliope x Grace, Calliope x Persephone, eventual ot3 everyone lives AU called Sing all your questions to sleep, which was quite fun. Comes complete with a rant about The Symposium!

The two fics I'm probably the most proud of, however, are The seed that grows without the sun (complete) and Monsters of the old world (one chapter to go).

Monsters of the old world came about because Hephaestus's fate in the game haunts me. He is one of my favourite Greek gods, and because I'm me I was tangled up on the crip potential of it all, and also the idea of Medusa on a very particular rescue mission. I'm trying to close off the final chapter, but it keeps running away from me because I get caught up in the absolute mess that is Aphrodite's choices re: Venus. But it's nearly done!

Hephaestus is blowing glass the first time he hears about the snake-haired bitch in the compound. It is only training and muscle memory that stops him from swallowing and ruining this body’s throat, and frankly the body is built more for war machines drawn up in CAD than the construction of delicate, physical parts. But Hephaestus has always worked better with a prototype, and while you can take a smith, lock him in a server room with a wall of screens, and he’ll make do, he’s always preferred to bother his captors with these specific, ‘old fashioned’ demands. A workshop. Bronze and coal where they want radium. Glass blowing, when a single wrong move would fuck his lungs beyond repair. Even he’s got to live, and showing the bastards just how much their discards can do is some extra stolen joy. When Hephaestus has to pass on, the higher ups throw the infirmary at him. Why waste an able fighter on the crippled god? Hephaestus’s eidolon tends to lead to injury, and well—that path is a dark one. But he is sure the tales of Medusa’s arrival are something he’s dreamed up in a crucible, and it’s not till he’s in the compound’s refractory and a hooded, writhing figure is shoved into a chair opposite him that he believes it can be true. Medusa stares at him, eyes hectic and flaring in a single, surprised moment before she ducks her head, the snakes around her face extending flickering tongues into the air between them. Chains hold her arms at her sides, and a corporal slams a bowl down, glaring at Hephaestus as the known quantity. “You feed her,” he snaps. “Not like the snakes will get you.” For a moment, Hephaestus and Medusa, two who have not spoken in millennia and rarely even then, meet each other’s eyes in perfect accord, amazed that this child-human thinks snakes are the problem

Seed is...it's about Persephone meeting the woman she would become in the late 1940s. It's one of the most personal stories I have ever written, despite being in a time and place I have not lived.

Hard not to, when there’s only one good place for bread in the village—though if there’s any more rationing or prices go up again, she’ll have to start making that, too, and God only knows where she’ll find the flour.  But that’s future, and presently Chastity has a stocky, slouching stranger smiling at her, and she’s got a spade. And the spade's not covered in rust like the one Chastity found in Sal’s shed. Hers has an edge to it, and Chastity, a married woman for nearly a year and imagining it cutting through the dirt she’s barely managed to scatter, is pretty sure this is what lust feels like. Turns out, Sister Immaculata was wrong.

(Also quick note: my version of Lace is pretty much entirely fanon given the fact that Silksong isn't even out yet, so take of that what you will- I see her as a sadist who puts on a sweetly cruel demeanor to vent her anger and frustration with the church of Pharloom while also concealing the fact that she sees no escape from it and genuinely pities those it takes advantage of: she's very good at playing the 'game' of politics that it forces her into. Her fascination with Hornet is based on the fact that Hornet very much does not give a damn about this and is hellbent on taking down a seemingly unstoppable force, which then blooms into affection when it looks like Hornet actually has a chance at doing so)

4. Who initiates affection? Why does the other not initiate affection as much?

-Lace tends to initiate affection! Hornet usually doesn't, but this is more because Hornet herself isn't much of a touchy-feely type by nature. Lace, on the other hand, both has far more experience with relationships as well as a very long history of never actually being able to be herself in any of them, so she's much more comfortable with it.

(Not that Hornet is uncomfortable with affection by any means- the fact that Lace is one of the few people she allows to initiate affection is enough. Plus, it gives her a chance to reciprocate, because she never learned how or when to do so)

18. How do they care for each other when one of them is wounded/sick?

-Lace patches Hornet up while teasing her relentlessly about it (or, in the case of all the imagined in-game scenarios where they're forming an uneasy allyship, while trying to convince both Hornet and herself to just kill her instead of prolong her suffering). Hornet, on the other hand, does it while threatening to kill for her, which Lace thinks is very sweet

24. How do their personalities affect their relationship? Do their characteristics compliment each other, or clash often?

-Despite their personalities seeming to be night and day, their ideals are very similar, so they end up complimenting each other; when they clash, it's because both of them are stubborn and think their own means of doing things is the best way about it. Hornet is blunt, cold, and painfully honest, while Lace is sweetly cruel and amazing at putting up a facade, but both of them believe its better to perish than to suffer and to die with dignity than to be debased, so they get along quite well. Lace helps Hornet navigate the intricacies of Pharloom and its culture, while Hornet gives Lace hope, as well as relief from the suffocating mindgames that the nobility play via her preference to bruteforce it through combat

I'm sure someone mentioned this before but it feels like Raxy-manbaby's rhetoric is borderline segregationist. Like he's like "dragons should never interact with humans, this is a humans only zone and if they do, they will be prosecuted and murdered even if humans come to their area". And the whole "refuse to humble themselves" reads off as "refuse to acknowledge human supremacy". It's flat out racist, and the only reason people are not noticing it or at worst giving him a pass is because it's fiction.

I don't have my redshit folder at hand right now, but someone jokingly replied to someone on the 3h sub some time ago (2 years? 3 years? You lose the meaning of time in this fandom) something like "separate but equals? It sure wasn't racist as hell."

Worry not, people notice it and fwiw, it's one of the reasons why I'm so annoyed at the Aeneid - because of its status : it was meant to be both a fic and supposed to be a meta commentary of the game, and many people swallowed it up complete with the nonsense that Billy was never biracial (or whatever Sitri was) or worse, they "become human again" as if having Nabatean blood/soul is something you can wash as easily as a hairdye.

I guess when you have to twist yourself in pretzels to pretend Supreme Leader going "you are a nabatean you cannot rule over humans" isn't pulling the race cardn, the only pretzel you end up with is one that is rancid and has been chewed by all kinds of unsavory people and we end up back to square 1 "separate but totes equal i'm telling you so please bow your head otherwise you defy me and you're going to fall on my axe".

Imo the conflation always boils down to the same set of pixels : granted, I earlier joked about how FE16 might have been a social experiment, if you simp very hard after a waifu, will you follow that waifu to the depths of hell, or will your common sense inform you that this waifu might be, uh, titillating material but nothing more?

She's probs got it for sentimental values, but used to download what they'd be interested in so that she could offer it to them later as a stress relief pre-crash. Whether they appreciated this or not would be a mixed bag

-She's probably also accessed post-collapse porn archives out of boredom as well. Girl's on Scornhub. She's found Taniks's Onlyfans. She probably uses is to speculate about whether or not humans have drifted in their mating choices in any way over however many years its been since the collapse (the answer is: not by much)

So like I love how everyone expected them to not get well w each other yk like people THOUGHT they would be on each others throats, and nando would commit warcrimes against lance etc etc(Especially after last years Austin incident yeahh....)WHILE they were actually ALREADY on good terms in 2021(the recent gifs that showed lance being like a teenager w crush ykyky)(plus I do remember photos of them interacting just casually) and before that yk when nando congratulated lance on his first podium in baku(which I'll never get out of my head gladly)

Well I think it's funny because, as you mentioned, one of the only pre-2023 moments of strollonso I remember distinctly is when they had the collision during the US gp 😭 and I feel like everyone saw that and were like "oh god Nando is gonna kill him when they're teammates", and then a similar situation kinda happened again at the very first gp when Lance hit the back of Nando but when Nando found out, he's just like "okay :)"

I wonder though sometimes what they'd be like if the AMR23 was like the prev one. Because I do think Nando does actually like Lance, but also I don't think you can deny that Nando's podiums are indeed a buffer. Kinda like him being like "anything you can do to me is literally nothing because I have a great car and I'm doing better than I have in years", like bro is on top of the world after so long, and it feels like he's gotten a second wind where nothing can really touch him or bother him.

I hate how everyone uses that "Lance is the owner's son, so of course Fernando will treat him nicely" argument. Like yeah that's a factor, but I feel like I see it more as Nando appreciating Lance bcs he factors into why Nando has a good car and a good team in the first place. I think tho my fav strollonso plot line is Nando being like "ugh ill put up w him I guess", but then he ends up having such a good car and finds out in the process that Lance is more than he ever considered(like in this fic ) And also the narrative of Nando being a very different, supportive teammate as compared to most other Lance has had. I like that they probably came into being teammates with certain assumptions, but now look at how comfy they are with each other!! Enough to tease each other is such public ways, like Lance saying certain things in interviews and Nando with his socmed. It's very fun!

BUT YEAH OH MY GOD THAT CLIP OF THEM WITH LANCE BEING SO TOUCHY AND SHOVEY WITH HIM!!!! people need to look back at older clips like that and the others you mentioned before they make assumptions about why they are the way they are >:(

6. Who will they take advice from, no matter what it is? Who won’t they take advice from, no matter what it is?

-Osiris and Ikora are two people that he'd trust to the ends of the earth, for obvious reasons: Osiris is extremely knowledgeable and hates being wrong almost as much as he hates Clovis's smug ass, while Ikora is extremely down-to-earth and aware of the fact that Aeris is extremely bad at both self-preservation and telling when people are trying to set him up. Cayde is someone who he never takes advice from no matter what, because of the aforementioned 'takes everything way too seriously' thing + some pranks he pulled before he realized that Aeris genuinely didn't get that he was pulling his leg. Cayde stopped that shit as soon as he realized, ofc, and apologized profusely for it (+ never really lived down what he did), but Aeris never really forgave him for it. Dude can hold a grudge, even if he's way more chill in his Guardian iteration than he was in any other form

(Someone who he will almost always take advice from would be Drifter, but, like Cayde, Aeris has learned to take it with a grain of salt from personal experience. In this case, it's not bc Drifter pranked him, but because what Drifter counts as 'good eatin' or a good idea is very different from most other people's definitions of a good time)

-Tongue. He's terrible at kissing and has basically next to no experience with it outside of sex (and even then, he hasn't had a lot of that either, let alone with people- Misraaks's heat discounted). I don't think he'd really care for kissing people either? But if someone sticks their tongue in his mouth then he's got zero qualms doing the same, no matter the circumstances. This is the sort of guy who ate a dried-up divine umbilical cord in his Bloodborne iteration and wants to drink radiolaria for the texture in his D2 one, for fuck's sake, he doesn't mind putting his mouth where it really shouldn't be

30. What would they do if they knew it would be forgiven?

-Brother, whether or not something would be forgiven is never on Aeris's mind when he's deciding what actions he has to take. Outside of it being a derogatory insult, there's a reason why his title is the Young Wolf, not the Vanguard's Hound. If he thinks that something needs to get done, then that something is going to get done, no matter the consequences that may arise as a result

His lips pulled in a tight line for a moment, trying not to grin as intrusive thoughts twisted her request. She was simply tending to his wounds and he was very much taller than her, having a full 3 feet above her so to say it was difficult for her to work on him would be an understatement. He did as she asked, bending his large frame down, sitting himself on both knees; he had to even shrink himself further as he was still just a bit too big.

"Sorry this is hard for you," he said, being careful of his large horns as he bowed his head towards her. "I don't think I said thank you before - for helping me." Not just 'helping', more like saving his life. For a solid moment before she found him, he was sure that he was dead.
