I said I’d be making a post about these yesterday, so here we are lol (ignore how late this is)

I recently joined a daily art chat where the members are prompted to draw Pokémon from a randomly selected pool, and it’s been quite a lot of fun! I’ll be going in order of when I made these, I’ve been trying to keep up with a drawing each day but a few of these were done quite late.

1.) Dane and Indy

These are Dane and Indy! Indy (the phanpy) was probably the most difficult for me to design, I’ve never been all that good with colors so I was definitely nervous about making something that looked decent. They’re two best friends who are obsessed with becoming explorers when they are older.

2.) Sterling and Soleil

These two are probably my favorite duo from the batch, Sterling (the Galarian Rapidash) is Soleil’s adoptive father and was previously a traveling merchant before settling down at the town they’re in now. Soleil is pretty closed off and a bit moody, but despite that is constantly getting dragged into whatever schemes Dane and Indy are cooking up to get into their local guild.

3.) Nicholas and Bear

I don’t have too much to say about these two, Nicholas (the Primarina) is a rookie explorer who is being mentored by Bear, a grumpy, more experienced member of their local guild. I’ll probably be doing more work on Nick’s design some time in the future when I’m a bit more free.

4.) Custard

The most recent from this batch of designs, and likely my favorite. I was rushing a little while making her since I’d been pretty busy during my birthday but I ended up liking the final design quite a bit. Custard is a cocky bounty hunter who spends a lot of time on the road going from town to town, she can be pretty stubborn and is a lot more comfortable working alone.

🥫 Q: What's a scene you've really enjoyed working on?

A: Not really a scene, but I really enjoyed writing the little fragments of lore, like the news articles and passages from books. I super enjoy epistolary novels, where the story is told through found documents (think Dracula or The Illuminae Files), and my format was inspired by The Prox Transmissions, the novel commissioned by The Starset society.

But if I had to pick a specific scene, it would have to be the scene where Taylor is talking to the piece of Nick's soul that they held onto. Mainly because in my notebook (yes, all my WIPs are first handwritten before they're transferred to my phone) Nick's voice is written with a gold gel pen. All the boys have a specific color for their voice, and Nick's is gold (and fuck you tumblr for not having a proper gold font color).

💿 Q: Which character is most likely to have a terrible sleep schedule?

A: Nicholas! The haints don't really need to sleep, just maybe rest and dissociate for an hour (except maybe Folio, who curls up and snores). Taylor maybe wakes up once, but Nicholas has nightmares after the whole Cult ordeal (both in the past and recently in the story) and you know… DYING and all that. Plus when you've got a best friend that doesn't sleep and can telepathically project into your mind at any hour, like,

DUDE, I JUST SAW THE MOST FUCKED UP SQUIRREL

it's kind of hard to get a full night's sleep.

☘️ Q: Do you enjoy mostly incorporating canon or fanon details in your work?

A: Canon definitely. Fanon feels too much like pandering sometimes. Canon gets me more creative, like making Jolly a Näcken/Nøkk, giving him an acoustic guitar rather than a violin.

💡 Q: What's an idea you've enjoyed but never/couldn't write?

A: A lot of LitL was scaled back, because even though it's labeled as a Horror AU, I had to add the paranormal tag later on in the story since I couldn't make it as horrorific as I wanted. This is supposed to be a safe space, after all.

For example, in chapter seven, Taylor asks what would happen if they were to stop doing the offerings. It's kind of been hinted that it would be bad. And it's because technically, Noah's a cannibal. So if Taylor were to stop the offerings, Noah would have to drag them into the woods and eat them. Nick doesn't want that. Noah doesn't want that. Tumblr doesn't want that.
