one day I’m actually going to grab everything I went through last year and pour it into a raritwi breakup fic where they don’t get back together and I don’t do my usual thing where I hint there’s hope for them

And I think that will probably be a very emotional and good fic but also it’ll probably be incredibly crushing more than anything Ive ever done so honestly maybe we should all be grateful I haven’t written it yet

#I’ve been listening to JP Saxe’s ‘A Little Bit Yours’#and i can feel it clawing at me #‘all i do is get over you and I’m so bad at it’#‘maybe if I’d said the right things it never would have gone this way’#‘but maybe that’s the problem cause I still kinda think it was up to me’#‘when I never could have made you stay’#rarity moves away from ponyville because everything is twilight #and she sees twilight just lock it out block it out put it away in a box and move on #and rarity can’t #and she tries #and tries #and a thousand miles away #in the dark of the night #the silence staring her down #she has to live with the idea that twilight got over her like that #that twilight probably already let go long long ago #and yet rarity is there knowing still she’d kill if twilight asked her to #and there’s no victory in that #no poetry or muse #no beauty #it’s just sad and pathetic and a masochism and so self centered #to cling to the hope that twilight still loves her or needs her when she knows it’s not true and it never will be #and the element of generosity wonders when her core got twisted #when generosity and caring and giving became erasing yourself for some pony else #and maybe one day it’ll stop #maybe one day she’ll be fine #but for now #she quietly makes peace with a simple fact #that even if twilight sparkle isn’t hers anymore and never will be again #at least for now rarity is still a little bit twilight’s

I love the rhyming on ttpd. can only think of two examples currently but I know there’s more.

#the dancing phantoms on the terrace do they get second hand embarrassed #is e v e r y t h I n g #but also I can’t stop thinking about:#you. look. like. taylor swift. in this light—we’re lovin’ it #like just the flow. the cadence. not even just the rhyme but #her ease with language and playfulness with it and all the little pockets and corners of so many songs #even ones you think you don’t like. settle in with time!#like the thing about taylor is that she is VERY much a poet #in that some of her genius/way with words is innate #and the images and stuff she uses the turns of phrase can feel so garish and embarrassing on first listen #they JAR #but honestly I think it’s because she is truly …. new? she is doing something NEW #and the shock and outrage that always goes with new things is always present with a Taylor album #and I think she’s drawing on so much from the past to write but she is so deeply rooted in the present cultural moment #so it’s so easy to dismiss her writing on first glance as like. idk a college girl’s idea of poetry #as being too Stark or Melodramatic.#she loves OBVIOUS imagery and extremely dramatic ones too #but she isn’t actually just throwing stuff at the wall #because pretty much always. it starts to land and soften and settle #and the image she’s chosen has done its job of drawing you into a world #and/or communicating an emotion #and sometimes it’s so upsetting. like. get me out of the bedroom with Matty Healy taylor!!!!!!!!!! but. the art is art-ing!#I guess is what I’m saying. she’s good at this it isn’t just hype #but some of it really is that she’s taking us places we might not want to go or are so quick to pass judgment on #as being unworthy of a song or more importantly a poem. but present art HAS to do that #and does do it!!!!!! idk I am just. musing

hiiii uh this is a little awkward bc we've never interacted before but I saw in the tags of one of your posts that you liked nitescen's wilting?? dude i am OBSESSED with nitescen it's actually a problem-- me and one of my irls literally talk to each other about her all the time and this irl is the only other person ik who knows her music. idk if you're still into her considering the post you made was back in june but like. aughh she's so good I needed to reach out just to see if you're a fan too

omg no worries!!! i love her stuff ^^ i don't consider myself a super fan (but also i've been deep in the kpop trenches so idk how skewed my view on what constitutes as an actual fan is lol), and i dont remember what i shared abt my thoughts on WILTING, but that song literally motivated me to pick up writing & drawing more often, after months of doing nothing abt either! and then i went to hear her other songs & they just resonated very deeply w/ me (WILTING and atlas baby have been my faves). but like, i rely on shuffling my youtube playlist to listen to songs so i hadnt seen her stuff in a while...

'how to write a good character arc' 'follow this act structure for your plot' 'best checklist for worldbuilding' 'the correct way to design a magic system' 'you're boring your readers with long descriptions' 'the correct amount of exposition' i don't know man. what if i do whatever the hell i want.

#I HAVE VERY STRONG BUT HARD TO ARTICULATE FEELINGS ABOUT THIS.#it's not that i don't appreciate any guides/ tips. okay. i just. am so tired.#of hearing the phrase 'there's a right way to write' wrapped in fancy terminology.#LIKE LISTEN LISTEN HEAR ME OUT.#take lord of the rings right.#'oh wow a classic!! the pinnacle of fantasy!! omg tolkein is a worldbuilding genius!!'#that's all well and good. alright. but how do you think tolkein approached it.#probably not with a 'this is the right amount of time to spend describing' mentality.#this man can will and has spent 15 pages talking about one (1) tree. or the obscure etymology of Minas Tirith.#im willing to bet he wasn't trying to fit any mould is what im trying to say right #he just wrote what he wanted !!!#the goal wasn't to cater to the reader!!!#and so much of the modern 'writing advice' contradicts the classics!#which isn't to say the classics are the end all be all of course #but it still counts for something that they stood the test of time and are considered a Big Deal #the point is.#or what im trying to say is that #if you're given advice on your art form that goes directly against what you're trying to do #and removes any element of enjoyment or what you consider to be a defining characteristic of your art #then just. don't do it.#like like #im not going to stop writing long ass winding descriptions of the setting my characters are in if it's something i like about my work #im not going to cut segments out of my dialogue that i think are funny/clever because im worried it'll confuse the reader #'b-but long descriptions/dialogue/infodumping about the magic system or worldbuilding/whatever the hell makes it tedious!!'#girl for who? because it sure as hell isn't tedious to me. im having the time of my life here #do NOT let me on this blog after 10 pm #writing #miss j's musings

oscars drama is always embarrassing but today especially because why are people acting like greta gerwig and margo robbie are the only women to ever exist within the film industry and ignoring and throwing the women who got nominated over them under the bus? and of course not a single person is talking about greta lee and celine song being snubbed for past lives (a better film in my opinion,) I wonder why... 😒

#obviously the oscars and film industry at large have a misogyny problem but ppl only talk about it when it affects white women #and greta and margot were both nominated for other awards! they're fine and do not need you to defend their honor online!#it sucks that the academy so rarely recognizes female directors and there's so many amazing women who could have been nominated this year #but this is unproductive and stupid discourse imo pls listen to woman of color and stop treating white feminism as the end all be all #oscars 2024 #film #enigma musings

i am currently trying hard to remember which friend pointed out that 12 would also inadvertently hurt River the way 11 did. they don't really mean to but with the way they have a hard time reading social cues - and they're still the same person basically. anyways, my dear pudding brain, please let me remember which friend it is so i can go back over our conversation so i can put that knowledge to good use - uh no wait it was Tree :D

I'm sure I won't be the first to point this out but I really admire the way Halsey was able to create songs which were explicitly inspired by certain artists without ever once losing the ineffable essence that makes her art hers. I'm not on instagram so I missed the whole parade of influences thing - I got that the gist of the album would be this sort of muddle of identities and eras but didn't know each song would have a specific influence. Listening to the album without the full context, I appreciated the scope of its diversity but I never once felt like anything was a copy or an inauthentic expression. It felt strangely cohesive in its chaos and most of all it was, quintessentially, a Halsey album. It's fascinating how, in leaning so hard into this idea of impersonation, they actually proved more than ever what an incredibly distinctive artist (and human being) they are.

#Halsey #The Great Impersonator #listening to this album was such a strange experience #throughout most of it I was liking it but I wasn’t emotional #but then all of a sudden towards the end I started to get so teary and emotional #not because of any one song but the build-up of the incredibly intimate journey the entire album had taken me on #and I haven’t re-listened to the entire album again but weirdly I have been thinking about it A LOT??#my fave tracks if anyone cares: Dog Years; Arsonist; Darwinism; Life of the Spider; Lonely is the Muse #listened to Lonely is the Muse again on my walk the other day and started sobbing lol #the letters to god are also amazing and gut-wrenching and the way they pin the album together is genius #ALSO also do yourself a favour and watch her 4 vevo live vids #i think they're half the reason I cant stop thinking about Halsey right now cos what the fuck??? what a fucking performer #ANYWAY jesus christ #if i cant have love i want power is probably still my favourite Halsey album but this one is really something special #my sister has not succumbed to my bullying so I havent had anyone to spill my many thoughts to sorryyyyyy #bullying her to hurry up and listen to the album I mean lol
