Really?! Now?! - deuxieme partie
You have asked, and I have delivered. I had a lot of fun writing the first part, and this part was equally fun to write. This will get smutty. Also the smut portion fucking sucks, i blame it on not writing smut in years🙈
Really?! Now?! - Deuxième Partie
WC: 2328
It was weird. Prompto had been avoiding you pretty hard for the past few days, and it had begun to eat at you. Had you said something to upset him? Had you done something wrong? Every time you walked up to him to try and ask, he would high-tail it away from you.
“So this is what he felt when I avoided him,” you mumbled into your arm, head resting on the counter in Takka’s. You felt terrible, more for having avoided him for so long rather than him avoiding you. “Guess I kinda deserve this…”
“What’s wrong, kid?” A large hand plopped onto your head, ruffling your hair. With a scowl, you glared at the person who had assaulted you, (e/c) eyes meeting amber.
“What do you want, Gladio?” you grumbled, swatting at his hand. A small frown replaced the man’s smirk as he watched you. You didn’t feel like trying to keep up with him today, and he could probably tell.
“Why’re you so moody?” he grimaced as he took the seat next to you.
“It’s nothing…”
“Bullshit, (Y/n).” Your head lifted from where it rested when the Shield said your name. Rarely did Gladio call you by your given name, and when he did it usually meant he was cross with you. “You know you can tell me, right? I mean, c’mon, we’ve been through so much already that we’re basically like brother and sister at this point.”
You mulled over his words, trying to figure out if it was worth it to tell him what was going on. But as it turns out, you didn’t need to.
“Is it about Prompto?” You flinched at the blond’s name, looking anywhere but Gladio’s eyes. He had been the first person you had told about your crush. Now you were regretting letting him get involved in the first place. “What did he do?”
“It’s nothing, Gladiolus. Just drop up,” you snarled and shot a glare to the man. Your eyes clashed for a few moments before he sighed, looking away.
“Whatever.”
***
It was barely a week later that Prompto had started speaking to you again. But he was still very uncomfortable, which led you to believe that Gladio had said something to him.
“H-Hey, (Y/n)? Can we talk?” Prompto’s voice was small as he approached you, his eyes cast to the ground. You released an inaudible sigh and turned to him.
“What is it, Prom?” you smiled, the gesture not quite reaching your eyes.
“Are-are we okay?” He lifted his sapphire hues to meet yours, and you were quick to nod.
“Of course, we’re good. Why wouldn’t we be?”
“Well, I thought… since I had avoided you, you wouldn’t want to--”
“Look, Prom. It’s fine. Besides, I kind of deserved that, after what I did to you,” you chuckled.You weren’t able to catch the look on his face.
***
You and Prompto were on a hunt. It had been said to be a relatively easy one, but it still took you two almost four hours to finish it. By the time the daemons had been dealt with, you were exhausted. Despite being a hunter for most of your life, you’d never get used to the constant run-and-gun lifestyle. It sucked, and as more time passed, the harder it got to keep your energy up.
“Shit,” you hissed, stumbling over a rock and falling to a knee.
“(N/n)? You okay?” Prompto was at your side at once, a hand resting on your shoulder. You were panting hard, and even in the low light he could see you were a bit pale. “What’s wrong?”
“I’m okay,” you croaked. “I’m just tired, Prom.”
“C’mon,” he whispered, hoisting you into his arms. “There’s a haven nearby. We can rest there for a bit.”
You nodded your head, arms coming to settle on his shoulders and the world became fuzzy.
***
His fingers traced your sides, his lips attached to your throat. You moaned his name, tugging lightly at his hair. His tongue stroked yours, and your legs widened.
“Prom, please,” you ground against him. “Please…”
You felt his erection against your thigh as he pulled you closer to him. His hands gripped your thigh as he lifted your leg, bringing it to wrap around his waist. His tip teased your entrance and made you moan breathily.
When you woke, there was a pressure in your core. You whimpered and rubbed your legs together, seeking any form of relief you could get.
“(Y/n)?” Your (e/c) met blue, causing you to whimper again. Prompto came to sit next to you, frown on his face. “What is it, (N/n)?”
You didn’t respond. Instead, Prompto just watched with wide eyes as you pushed him onto his back, straddling him. Your tongue peeked out to wet your lips, and he was fast to look you in the eyes. He was surprised to see your iris had been nearly overtaken by your pupil, giving you a hungry, carnal expression.
“Prom,” you whined, rocking your hips against his. A moan ripped from his throat, emboldening you to grind against him harder. His fingers dug into your hips, pulling you against him with enough force that you could feel his cock through both your pants.
“F-Fuck.” Your voice came out in a needy cry and Prompto growled below you. The blond gunman sat up rapidly, his arms winding around your back and attacking your neck with his lips and teeth. He teased your skin, marking you at the same time he pushed you to the floor of the haven. Your hands went up to his shoulders, pushing his jacket off so that it pooled at his elbows. Your fingers tangled themselves in his hair at the base of his neck, and he groaned against your skin.
Suddenly, Prompto was on the opposite side of the Haven, blue eyes wide as he stared at you.
“We-We should get back…”
***
It wasn’t all that long after that you and Prompto fell out again. The fact that it was happening again was almost enough to kill you, but you couldn’t afford to die. You still had a job to do, after all. And you managed to survive six months without one of your closest friends, although it had been hard.
As you walked through Hammerhead after your hunt, your mind couldn’t help but wander to that night. You and Prompto had been a hair's breadth away from sleeping together, and you wished -- more than anything -- that it had happened.
A commotion at the front of the outpost had you turning to see Talcott’s truck. Out of the passenger door climbed an unfamiliar dark-haired man, but it was the reactions of Prompto and Gladio that had you realizing who had just arrived.
You didn’t realize when your feet carried you over to the four, keeping enough space between you and them. That is, until the dark-furred dog turned to you and barked before charging you.
“Umbra?”
You knelt to the ground, going to stroke the dog’s fur with no hesitation. It had been a long time since you had seen a canine, and you hoped that this wouldn’t be the last time you did see one.
“Who’re you?” the dark-haired male asked, and you lifted your face to meet his eyes.
“No one of importance,” you said shortly, glancing at Prompto. “Not anymore.”
You saw the blond flinch. Noct saw it, too, and he couldn’t help but wonder what had happened between his best friend and this woman. However, instead of pressing the subject, the king only shook his head, and you took that opportunity to speak.
“It’s wonderful to see you back, Your Highness.”
***
You sat on the bed, knees to your chest as silent tears fell from your eyes. You knew, this would probably be the last night you saw Prompto. You didn’t have to be the Oracle to know that. As soon as Noctis had arrived, the group of four had immediately started preparations to leave for Insomnia.
“(Y/n)? Are you in there?” Prompto’s voice made your breath hitch and you began to cough. Prompto threw open the trailer door, his eyes wide with fear that only seemed to subside when he saw you were relatively okay. “(Y/n), could you look at me? Please?”
You didn’t want to. It would only make you cry harder. Prompto’s fingers grazed your cheek as he cupped your face.
“Why are you crying?”
“I’m gonna lose you!” you muttered. “And I can’t do anything!”
“You’re not gonna lose me,” Prompto frowned. “I’m not going--”
“Stop lying! You and I both know that you’re leaving for Insomnia as soon as you can! And there’s no guarantee you won’t die!” You sprang to your feet, eyes filled with fire and tears. You went to hit his shoulder, only for him to grab your wrist.
“(Y/n), listen to me,” he pleaded. “I’m--”
“Enough Prompto!” you cut him off with a glare. “I’m done! First, you ignore me for a reason I don’t even know, then you ignore me because of what happened between us at that haven! Why?! Do you enjoy breaking my heart?!
You were left panting after your outburst, and Prompto’s grip loosened. You took back your wrist and made a move to go past him but were stopped by strong arms wrapping themselves around your middle.
“I never meant to hurt you,” Prompto whimpered. In spite of yourself, you shuddered at the feel of his breath on the shell of your ear. “But I was scared. Scared you’d hate me for what happened. I hate myself for hurting you, but at the time I thought--”
“You thought what?” you hissed. “Prompto, I was the one that started it, not you. I knew what I was doing. If anything, you should hate me for lying to you.”
Instead of responding, Prompto nuzzles his nose against your shoulder. He feels you shudder against him, making him smirk at the same time he drags his tongue across your skin. A whimper fell from your lips at his action, your fingers coming to curl against his forearms.
“P-Prompto…”
“Would you let me make it up to you, (N/n)?” he whispers in your ear before blowing a breath against it. You inhale shakily as you nod. In seconds, Prompto had you sitting on the lone bed in the caravan, shucking off his jacket. With one hand, he pushes you onto your back and hovers over you, eyes blown wide in lust. He brings your hands to his shoulders before capturing your lips in a searing kiss.
In no time at all, you were moaning against the blond, your hips grinding against his unconsciously. With the ferocity of a rabid coeurl, Prompto had stripped the both of you down. It was only when you stood bared before him that he seemed to pause. His eyes roamed over your figure before settling on your face. His touch was gentle as he cupped your face, back hunched as he brought his face to yours.
“You’re beautiful,” he whispered. Your breath caught in your throat when his lips covered yours, hands coming to grasp his shoulders. Once again, Prompto pushed you onto your back, climbing onto the bed and hovering over you. “Fuck, you’re beautiful. How did I get this lucky? I must’ve been a saint in my last life.”
“Prom…” you pleaded. “P-Please, Prom…”
The blond didn’t have to be urged any more as one hand cradled your face and the other trailed low between your bodies.
“Tell me if it hurts, (N/n).” He waited for your nod before guiding himself to your entrance. A breath hissed past his lips as he pushed in until he was fully seated. Your body shuddered against his, your fingers digging into the flesh of his shoulders. A shaky breath fell from your lips as you willed your body to relax.
“Prom,” you muttered, fingers going to twine themselves in his hair. Taking that as his sign, Prompto began moving. It was slow, at first, but quickly turned frantic as Prompto’s calloused hands grasped at your waist and his lips attacked your exposed skin. The feeling of him against you -- his lips at your throat, his hair tickling your skin, his hands holding you close -- almost made you think this was just another dream, something your brain had conjured up. But the feel of his cock as he filled you let you know just how real this was. That this was happening.
Prompto’s breath came in harsh pants as he watched you. To him, you didn’t seem to be enjoying yourself, which caused him to frown. Without warning you, he cradled your face and kissed you, licking at the seam of your lips. Your moans filled his ears, and a particularly hard thrust from him had you mewling.
You felt Prompto smile into the kiss and you tugged at his hair. His moan was quite possibly the hottest thing that had fallen from his tongue, and you were about to give another tug when he slammed into you. You cried his name as the pressure in your core built. Nails dug into his back and you wrapped your legs around his waist, making him hit deeper as your ankles locked at his back.
“Prompto!” Your release came suddenly, taking you over before you had the chance to warn the man. You heard him grunt as his hips stuttered before his load covered your walls. Prompto’s body went slack as he panted above you, pulling you into his chest. He buried his nose in your hair, heaving a sigh.
“I had to do this, at least once,” Prompto whispered in your ear. All you could do was nod, arms wrapping around the blond.
“Make sure to come back, Prompto,” you said when your voice finally returned. Your grip on him tightened. “I can’t lose you, too.”

Witch and familiar au what if one of the guys from ff xv was cursed as a furry animal and mc, the local witch, finds them and takes care of them and poof they wake up with a half whatever animal/human in their bed and the other is just all "yeah so this awkward but I gotta a good explanation." Im leaning heavily on it being Prompto with some form of dog ears.
I’m glad I can finally get to this request, @roshytsunami! I was originally going to do HCs about a lot of characters in this situation, but now I think I’ll do a short fic.
I think your idea about half fish Noctis (wait, that’s a merman, right?) is awesome! I also really want to see faun Gladio (goat legs and maybe horns?) and maybe a half cat Ignis…rotfl idk. OHH! What about a half falcon Ravus, so he can have wings?!?! Or a wolfy Nyx?! Ok, I’m getting ahead of myself. I don’t have time to write all of these right now >.
If any of these ideas sound good to you, please request them! I get to requests before originals and use them to gauge what ideas people think sound interesting.
Btw, Roshy is a mod for an upcoming Prompto centered zine that you can check out here!
Prompto just works too well with SnapChat…

Love Spell
Eye of newt,Tongue of dove,A blue flame’s soot,NOW SHOW MY LOVE!
Over your table top cauldron you chanted, throwing each ingredient in. The small container bubbled with a pinkish liquid until you chanted the last line, in which it overflowed into yellow steam over the sides. It was the color of a sunflower explosion.
Fitting, considering who you were looking for.
You must be truly desperate to be trying your own spell to find him, you thought to yourself. The room around you stayed quiet as the yellow steam dissipated.
Life wasn’t easy for your friendly neighborhood modern witch. The tarot cards were moody and only liked to read misfortune while your modern cauldron was the size of a two cup measuring cup. Who could afford a giant cast iron pot these days? You made up most of your own spells because the ingredients for the ones you found in old books or online all called for expensive items that couldn’t be found in your city. You were a witch that flew by the seat of your pants, not a broom.
Without warning, the smell of the potion exploded into the room. It was an unpleasant combination like cheap cologne and a seeding mint plant. The odor overwhelmed your small flat and your ran to the kitchen window, throwing it open to gasp at the fresh air.
As your lungs took their fill, you lingered in the warm windowsill. The sun glowed on your skin, heating your body after the cold of your flat. Your fingers played in the soft soil of your flower box, dancing between your herb plants.
Your eyes stared off into the sunny day, willing you to wander down the busy streets below in search of him. You dreamed of him as your gaze settled on your neighbors yellow and orange marigolds. They reminded you of his hair and cheerful smile.
The man you loved had been gone for three days now. He had gone out to get you coffee and never returned. You missed your love and were worried sick about him.
Sure, you had only been dating for a few weeks now, but you knew you loved him the moment you met him. It was the type of situation where the word just fit. He was your sunshine: the light of your life and the warmth to your days. But you had been too scared to tell him that. Now, you were worried you’d never get the chance to.
It had been three sleepless nights, thousands of missed calls, and hundreds of hours out looking for him. But he was still gone without a trace.
You were woken from your daydream by a sound at the door: scratching. Oh by the six, had you summoned something with your made up ramblings?
You spun from the window, grabbing the first item that could be used as a weapon, which happened to be a large wooden spoon. You held your new sword before you, ready for whatever was going to tear your door down. Your breathing came in gasps and your hands shook as you listened to the soft scratching.
Every sound made you flinch. You felt certain that the front door would come flying towards you at any moment. Your heart beat thrummed in your ears.
Silence.
“HERE IT COMES here IT comes here it COMES here itcomeshereitcomes” the words tumbled through your mind faster than you could comprehend them.
But nothing happened.
The door stayed perfectly still. When a soft whimpering was heard from the other side.
It sounded like a puppy.
You willed your frozen feet to move, to help you find out what was outside that door. Your initial instinct was to believe it a daemon’s trick, something to lure you outside, but curiosity got the best of you.
One hand on the doorknob, the other holding your spoon up to strike, you whispered, “Please don’t kill me,” before you threw the front door open.
Staring ahead, you half expected to see some giant, red and black glowing beast, ready to tear you apart. Instead, there was nothing.
You looked down towards movement on the floor to see a golden colored puppy sitting at your feet.
The two of you stared at each other in confusion, before it barked at you with its shrill but adorable voice.
Your head snapped to the upheld spoon. “Sorry!” You apologized while lowering it. The puppy rose to all four feet, trying to measure up to you.
You picked up the small baby, holding it before you to examine it. “So…boy,” you confirmed. “Tell me, are you some great daemon in disguise that I summoned to bring about my own bloodied doom?” You looked the bundle of fluff in the eyes. He just whimpered and waged his tail at you.
“AWWWW! You’re too cute to be here to hurt me! Aren’t you little guy!” At the will of this squirming puppy, you became a baby talking, giddy, melty mess. If it was going to kill you, at least you’d die happy from seeing something so adorable. You carried the little pup inside, cradled in your arms.
The rest of your day was spent drenched in sunlight, warm away from your sorrow. You now had someone to care for.
You made some homemade food for your new friend and stitched up some makeshift toys. You would sprawl out on your living room rug and play with him. As the sun was setting, painting the bricks of your flat in orange, you realized he still didn’t have a name. You smiled, watching the puppy yawn, content to put the task off until tomorrow.
You cuddled into your bed, soft and safe from the world outside. Your new friend whimpered on the floor, until you relented, picking him up to cuddle into your blankets with you. He curled up in your arms and was soon snoring under your adoring gaze.
It felt like mere moments later when you awoke. Everything was so warm; from the morning sun streaming in, to your blankets, even the breath on your skin.
WAIT!
Breath on your skin?!
You looked down frantically. Were a soft puppy had once laid, now a blond haired handsome man lay, curled up against your chest.
Your cheeks burned red as you scuttled backwards. Your bed mate moaned in his sleep.
“PROMPTO!?!” You cried! Was he really here? Now? Was this a dream?
“Errmm, [Y/N]?” He blinked sleep filled eyes, trying to focus on you. “[Y/N]!!!!” He realized suddenly who you were, tackling you onto the other side of the bed.
He was so excited to see you! You had to close your eyes to the onslaught of kisses…very wet kisses.
“Prom! Where have you…what have you…” He pulled away from you, his sky blue eyes staring into yours. You couldn’t help but notice small, fluffy ears sticking out of his golden hair as his tongue lolled out his open mouth. “What happened?!”
“I missed you so much, [Y/N]! I swear I can explain everything!” He dove into a rambling story, a tail swishing in your sheets to his cadence.
Ears, tongue, a tail…had your puppy friend been Prompto?!
“Prom, Prompto, sunshine…PROM! Stop!” Finally you got him to quiet. “I don’t think it’s all worn off…” You picked up your phone to show him what he looked like in the camera. He stared obliviously happy at you as you took his picture.
You turned your phone around. It took him a moment to recognize his own reflection. When he did, he snatched the device from your hands.
“THAT’S ME?!” He cried as though it was your fault.
You just nodded, still in shock at the puppy boy in front of you. A blush bloomed again. You had slept with the puppy, you had rolled around on the floor with the puppy, you had seen the puppy’s…
He started to panic, still staring at your phone.
“You were that puppy!” The realization left your lips.
“YEAH! AND NOW I’M ME BUT I’M STILL PUPPY AND…” Prompto had at least triple your anxiety.
You took a moment to breath. Everything was crazy, but he was here now. That’s what mattered.
“Prom, what happened?” You hoped your forcibly calm voice would help him.
“There was this person and I bumped into them and they knew my name and then I saw them here and…”
He was going to give himself a panic attack at this rate! So, you stopped him in the best way you knew how.
You pressed your lips to his. You had missed these soft lips. You felt the tension in your body release as you tasted his wet lips, letting your souls click into place.
Gently, slowly, you pulled away. “What was that for?” Your sunshine asked breathlessly.
“True love’s kiss and all that jazz,” you replied softly, half hoping it had worked.
“Oh…better try again, then.” And in an instant, your lips were reunited.
You could feel the heat in your cheeks rise. You had never purposefully been in a bed with Prompto, much less like this before!
As heat was starting to build, he suddenly pulled away, his eyes wide. He jumped out of the bed and made for the bathroom.
“Prom? Honey, what’s wrong?” You called, concerned by his sudden departure.
“Gotta go!” He called, slamming the door.
You smiled at the strange scene.
“IT’S REALLY HARD TO GO WHEN YOU KEEP TRYING TO RAISE YOUR LEG!” He yelled from the other side of the door. Yeah, your Prompto was back.
The rest of the morning was filled with a slow breakfast and as much time in each other’s arms as you could have. Prompto kept trying to lick you instead of kiss you and he accidently did whine a few times.
Eventually, you pieced together his story. It sounded like a rival witch had been trying to cast this spell on you, when Prompto walked out of your apartment and right into it! You laughed with him but vowed to get revenge on whoever did this.
With a little bit of research and luck, you discovered that Prompto’s transformation would go away with time and “warm love”. He would need to constantly be around someone he loved, to take care of them and be cared for, until all the symptoms went away, or else he would transform back into a puppy!
“You poor thing! The shock of the transformation must have scared you so bad that you ran away!” You pet his head, trying to comfort him through understanding.
Prompto laughed nervously.
“What’s wrong, babe?”
“I guess…this means the cat’s out of the bag…heh or the dog.” He did a weak finger guns to you.
“What?”
“The ‘L’ word stuff! LOVE! Now you know…” He looked down sadly. “And I never got to surprise you or make it super romantic or something…”
You smiled, pulling him in close for a tight hug. “Yeah, but I don’t need that, because I have you.” You pulled away to hold is face in your hands. “Prompto, I love you and I never want to lose you again.”
His eyes sparked. “I love you, too, [Y/N]. Don’t worry. I’m not going anywhere.”
You held each other tight, wrapped in the strongest magic the world had ever known: Love.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“I was a pretty cute puppy, wasn’t I?”
“Yes, you still are!”“I am not!” “You can still be very dog-like at times.”
“Well, you don’t need a leash to keep me around.” ;)
“What if I want one?”
“What?”
“What?”
Link: Ao3 Title: Too Hard to Say Rating: Teen+ Pairings: Gladiolus Amicitia/Ignis Scientia Warnings: - Summary: Gladio never liked the parties held in Insomnia’s castle, but they were especially unnerving when he already had so much on his mind.
@gladnis2018
The parties held in Insomnia’s castle were an annoyance, to say the least.
Alright, maybe that was an exaggeration: there was plenty of tasty food and expensive drinks, enough to keep him occupied for some time. But Gladio had never been good at dealing with nobility — which was ironic, considering his own lineage. All those endless pleasantries and smiles could get on someone’s nerves given enough time, and he wasn’t that patient to begin with.
Besides, he was particularly moody that night, so, instead of socializing, he isolated himself with a plate of food and a few drinks, ignoring the world around to the best of his ability.
After some minutes of eating and playing a game in his phone, he noticed someone approach him through the corner of his eye, and wasn’t too surprised to see it was Ignis. As expected, he looked impeccable in his formal attire. However, there was a hint of exhaustion on his face only those who knew him well could identify. Not surprising, considering he probably had his part in organizing the event, and then had to go around, greeting and chatting with everyone as the representative of the prince himself — who, as usual, had chosen to stay home and ignore his duties.
Gladio felt bad for him.
“So, enjoying the party?” he asked in a playful tone.
Ignis stared at him, reaching for his glass, turning what was left of the drink in one go. Gladio raised his brow, a brief laugh escaping his lips.
“Well, that answers it.”
“My face is sore from smiling so much,” muttered Ignis. “I’m still smiling, am I not? I simply can’t stop… this is a nightmare.”
“Stay with me, Iggy,” Gladio pulled the chair beside him. “You went through worse things than this.”
“Perhaps,” Ignis sat down, taking out his glasses, massaging the area between his eyes. “But I’m still fairly certain that you’ll find my deceased corpse laying somewhere on the floor before the night ends.”
“I sure hope not, you’re the only thing keeping me from dying of boredom.”
Ignis laughed, putting his glasses again.
“I have to admit I’m surprised to find you alone,” he said. “Isn’t it against some rule of the Amicitia’s family to stay unaccompanied for more than two minutes in any public event?”
“I think I scared any possible company away with my face.”
Gladio gestured towards the wound on his left eye, that he gained protecting Noctis from a bunch of assholes. Most of the stitches had already come out, which meant he now could move his face without feeling like the cut was opening again. But the scar was still evident, and he’d be lying if he said all the curious and surprised looks didn’t bother him.
“And I believed what they said, about girls liking scars…” he added with a humorous tone.
But Ignis didn’t laugh at his attempt of a joke, observing him with a worried expression. Gladio averted his eyes.
“Is it healing well?” asked Ignis.
“Yeah, but I’m pretty sure this one won’t fade with time.”
“Do you mind?”
Gladio looked at him, unsure of what he meant by that. Ignis carefully reached for his face, touching the area close to the scar with the tip of his fingers, examining it.
“I’ve said this before, but I’m glad it didn’t get your eye.”
“Yeah…”
Ignis retreated. They stayed silent for the following seconds, until a wave of nervousness made a brief, humorless laugh escape from Gladio’s lips.
“It’s ugly, isn’t it?” he asked.
“Believe me, they would have to make a bigger effort to make you look ugly.”
Gladio didn’t reply immediately. Moments like that made him wonder if Ignis’ words and touch meant something more than a close friendship, or if he was just reading too much into it.
“If you’re the one saying so…”
They changed the subject to more pleasant things. The time passed, and at some point Gladio found his father amid the crowd, standing beside King Regis, as expected from a Shield. Despite the professional smile, the old man looked tired as well. It seemed parties weren’t among the Amicitias’ favorite pastimes. Except, maybe, for Iris… Gladio was sure that little monkey would find a way to enjoy herself, no matter the situation. He smiled fondly at the thought.
His eyes met Regis’, who raised his hand in a subtle gesture to call his attention.
“Iggy…”
Gladio touched his elbow, indicating the King with a movement of his head. Regis made a sign for Ignis to approach him.
“Seems like your break is over…” said Gladio.
“Please, end my life,” muttered Ignis as he stood up.
Gladio watched as he walked away, then stretched his legs under the table. The waiter passed by, and he grabbed two glasses of champagne, one for himself and other for Ignis.
Maybe he should go take a walk outside? He considered it for a while, but decided to wait until Ignis got back. He’d rather have someone to talk to, anyway. It would make time pass faster, and in a more pleasant way.
Gladio finished drinking his champagne. Long minutes passed before he started to drink from the other glass. He could always get another for Ignis later.
Speaking of Ignis, Gladio spotted him in the distance, among a small group of older people, with his perfect posture and fake smile. It was so damn fake… How couldn’t anyone notice it?
He laughed to himself, finishing the drink. Wasn’t drinking alone such a depressing thing, though? The highest point of his night had been the few minutes he got to spend with Ignis. Now that he thought about it, that party wouldn’t have been so bad if he got to spend more time with him. He could even get to enjoy it.
He finished that drink, and when a waiter approached him again, he took another two glasses. Hope never dies, right?
Gladio kept waiting, but there was no sign of Ignis coming back. He glanced around the place, but his friend had vanished amid the crowd. Great, his last bit of entertainment was gone.
As time passed, a feeling of restlessness overcame him. Maybe he should have taken that walk, after all… But he wasn’t feeling like doing it anymore. Besides, if he started wandering alone, he’d go back to feeling self-conscious about his damn face. He knew it was part of his job as a Shield to protect Noctis with his life, and he was fine with it. He was proud of it. But he also didn’t imagine something that small… That stupid, could bother him so much.
Once again, he drank the champagne from Ignis’ glass, and it tasted bitter on his tongue. Noctis had cried at the hospital… He never saw the brat react like that before, and part of him felt guilty about it. Ignis was there too. He spent more time than he should at his bedside, when he probably had more important things to do. Just stood there, listening to his endless whining and trying to keep him distracted. That’s when he began to wonder if Ignis felt something for him — and when he realized he was hoping that was the case.
The lights at the party seemed brighter than before, and he foresaw a nasty headache on the next morning. He noticed the waiter approaching his table again, and hesitated for just a second before calling him with a gesture. Again, he took two glasses, but this time they were both for himself.
“Well, I’m already fucked up… Why stop now?”
That was a terrible way of thinking, but, honestly, he was too tired to care.
After being introduced and having to sustain a conversation with at least a dozen different people, Ignis finally managed to slip away. He was good at socializing, yes, but it didn’t mean he liked doing it. Especially when he was that tired and with a more than inconvenient headache. Maybe it was a sign that he should start sleeping better.
If he had to be honest, the only pleasant thing to come out of that night was the chance to spend some time with Gladio. Not that it was such an unusual thing, especially considering that they trained together almost every day. But for them to meet outside of Insomnia’s castle, without the excuse of accompanying Noctis somewhere, was quite unusual. And he enjoyed it. Probably more than he should.
He made his way back to Gladio’s table, and in seconds his optimistic expectancy was dissolved into something closer to dread. It was clear Gladio had been drinking — way more than he was supposed to. He wasn’t causing a scene, but had a grouchy expression, and would glare at anyone who looked in his direction. Ignis approached the table with cautious steps, but as soon as Gladio saw him, a smile appeared on his face.
“You finally got back…” he said. “I was starting to think I’d have to drink your share again.”
“Gladio,” Ignis carefully took the glass out of his hand, placing it out of his reach. “I understand that you don’t like parties, but I think you had enough for today.”
“It’s not that bad, once in a while,” Gladio shrugged. “If we have to go through this shit, then we better make the best out of it, right?”
“That’s not the issue here.”
Ignis sat beside his friend, hoping no one called him this time. He was sure that, if left alone, Gladio would just go back to drinking.
“You should be thanking me…” answered Gladio. “This way you’ll have an excuse to leave early.”
“It’s not much of an improvement, leaving early just to take care of a drunk man.”
“Really?” Gladio showed a suggestive smile. “I’m sure we could have much more fun on our own than in this place.”
Somehow, Ignis managed to keep a straight face at those words.
“I’ll pretend you didn’t say what you just did.”
Gladio laughed for a while, then looked at Ignis’ eyes, his face resting against his palm.
“You’re really beautiful, you know?”
That sudden comment made Ignis stare at him.
“Excuse me?”
“I never tell you that, but you’re so damn beautiful…” proceeded Gladio. “And so fucking smart. Man, you’re just amazing.”
His voice was loud, and drawing more than a few curious eyes to them.
“I appreciate the thought,” said Ignis, “but maybe you should lower your tone.”
“Why?” Gladio elevated his voice even more, getting up from his chair, glaring at the guests around them, as if daring them to keep looking. “So these people won’t judge me? They already look at me like I’m some kind of ugly monster, so why should I care? Why should I care about any of this?”
“Gladio…”
Ignis placed his hand on Gladio’s shoulder, trying to calm him down. But it was clear that he wasn’t feeling well. He had never been one to drink until he lost his senses, and that was what worried Ignis the most.
“I’ll take you home,” he muttered, placing his arm around Gladio’s waist, guiding him to the exit.
Gladio accompanied him, grumbling at anything in their way. Ignis went straight to his car, helping Gladio sit on the passenger’s seat, taking his place beside him. He hadn’t drunk much, but still drove slowly for safety measure. They reached Gladio’s place, where he’d been living alone since he moved from the Amicitia’s mansion. It took some effort to take him out of the car, and even more to drag him to his apartment on the fifth floor. There, Ignis had to search his pockets for the keys, hearing a few comments from Gladio about him “trying to grab his ass”. He just took a deep breath and helped him walk inside.
The place was messier than Ignis remembered, as if Gladio hadn’t taken his time to clean for at least a week.
“I’m gonna puke…” he announced, suddenly.
“By the six, Gladiolus!”
Ignis tried to guide him to the bathroom as fast as he could, but there was still a trail of vomit left behind them. Gladio proceeded to empty his stomach in the toilet, while Ignis held him by the shoulders, making sure he didn’t lose his balance.
“Feeling better?” he asked.
“I guess…”
There was vomit on his clothes, and Ignis couldn’t just leave him in that state.
“I’ll help you take a shower,” he said.
With some effort, he managed to free Gladio from his dirty clothes, dropping them on the floor, together with his own jacket — which, at that point, was only staying in the way. He turned on the shower, waiting until the water became warm, guiding Gladio to it. Once he felt the water on his body, he grunted, trying to leave.
“You need to clean yourself,” said Ignis in a patient tone.
Gladio tried to leave again, but Ignis stood in his way.
“Gladiolus Amicitia,” he said in a serious voice. “Stop being difficult and allow me to help you.”
Maybe because of Ignis’ tone, or maybe because he simply got tired to fight back, Gladio stayed put, under the shower. Ignis felt a cold shiver, and realized his clothes were drenched.
“Hey…” Gladio’s voice called his attention. “Do friends usually do stuff like this?”
“Like what?”
“Undressing each other, being together under the shower… Y’know, this stuff.”
Ignis took a deep breath. Of course he was conscious of the situation, but he couldn’t let that stop him. There were more important things than his own personal feelings to worry about.
“You’re aware that I wouldn’t need to do any of this if you hadn’t drunk more than you should, right?” he asked back.
“Way to put the blame on me…”
“Except you were to blame from the start. Drinking like that, and all else.”
Ignis turned off the shower, helping Gladio walk out of it, quickly drying his body with a towel. He guided him back to the room, carefully avoiding the vomit on the floor, walking Gladio to the bed, making him sit there as he got some clothes from his wardrobe. He found some difficulty in convincing Gladio to wear pants, but somehow managed to do it. When he tried to put a t-shirt on him, though, Gladio leaned on him, almost making him fall under his weight.
“Ignis…” said Gladio in a low tone. “You know how I feel about you, right?”
Ignis lowered his eyes, letting out a deep, tired sigh.
“I don’t think we should have this conversation now,” he said, carefully pulling Gladio away from him.
Gladio cursed under his breath.
“You’re so complicated…”
“Says the one who can barely stand on his own. Come on, raise your arms.”
Gladio did as he said, and soon he was fully clothed again. Ignis helped him lay on the bed, and only then started to pay attention to his own clothes.
“I can’t go back like this,” he searched the wardrobe for something he could wear. “I’ll borrow some of your clothes, if you don’t mind.”
“Or you could just spend the night here,” suggested Gladio.
“I think I had enough of you for tonight.”
“You could never have enough of me,” he laughed. “You’re even taking my clothes.”
“Is it even worth it to remind you of the reason?”
Ignis took the smallest pair of pants he could find and a hoodie. They were comfortable, but, as expected, way too big for him. He turned to face Gladio, who was gawking at him, bitting his lower lip.
“I just discovered a new kink…” he muttered.
Ignis counted to ten and asked the Astrals for patience. He reminded himself that Gladio wasn’t his normal self at the moment, and that he shouldn’t get mad at him. He approached Gladio, placing a pillow under his head, covering him with a blanket.
“I’m hungry…” he grumbled.
Ignis sighed.
“Alright, I’ll make something for you.”
He went to the kitchen, searching it, realizing both the fridge and the food cabinet were equally devoid of anything he could use to make a proper meal. There was, however, a few Cup Noodles and some other pre-made food on the shelves. Didn’t that man eat anything but that? He made a mental note to discuss the matter when he was sober again.
Without many options, Ignis prepared one of the Cup Noodles, approaching the bed when it was ready.
“Gladio…” he called.
But Gladio had fallen asleep. Ignis simply looked at him for a moment, deciding not to wake him.
“And you say I am the complicated one…”
He placed the Cup Noodles on the counter, and proceeded to clean the floor and put the dirty clothes on a bowl with water. He should clean them as soon as possible, but he was tired. He just wanted to lay on his bed and have a long night of sleep.
But, as tempting as the thought was, he knew nothing good could come from leaving his friend alone in that state. After a minute of consideration, Ignis took a chair, placing it beside Gladio’s bed.
“It’ll be a long night…” he thought.
Gladio woke up with his head aching. His mind was foggy, and he could remember little more than brief fragments from the prior night. He looked beside him, seeing Ignis there, sitting on a chair with the glasses on his lap, asleep.
“Iggy?”
His low voice was enough to wake him up. He looked at Gladio, putting his glasses again.
“How are you feeling?” he asked.
“Like shit…” admitted Gladio. “My head is killing me.”
Ignis got up, stretching his back. It crossed Gladio’s mind that the chair wasn’t among the most comfortable places to spend the night.
“Where do you keep the medicine?” asked Ignis.
“Bathroom. Cabinet.”
Ignis walked to the bathroom. He came back seconds later, approaching the sink, filling a glass with water.
“Here,” he said, offering Gladio the glass and the pill. Gladio drank it, and the cold water, more than anything, made him feel a little better.
“What time is it?” he asked.
“Little past three in the morning,” Ignis took the glass from him, placing it in the sink.
“Shit…” he felt a sting of guilt in his chest. “You’ve been here all this time?”
“I couldn’t leave you alone in that state.”
Gladio closed his eyes, trying to force his memory. Things started to come back to him, and he soon wished they didn’t.
“Are you hungry?” asked Ignis, calling his attention. “You fell asleep before you could eat.”
“Ah, yeah… But—”
“Besides, you really should buy something other than instant noodles to eat,” Ignis interrupted him. “You’re as bad as Noct when I leave him alone for a few days.”
Gladio smiled, but the guilt soon made the expression fade.
“Sorry,” he said.
Ignis didn’t say anything, approaching his bed when the food was ready. Gladio ate in silence, only then realizing how hungry he was feeling. As soon as he finished, Ignis sat on the border of the mattress, looking at him with a serious expression. Gladio averted his eyes.
“I think we should talk about what happened,” said Ignis.
“Iggy, I’m really so—”
“Stop, Gladio. I’m not asking for you to apologize, I just want to know what’s wrong.”
Gladio stayed silent, avoiding his gaze.
“You’re not one to drink carelessly like that,” insisted Ignis. “There’s something bothering you, isn’t there?”
Silence again.
“Gladio…” Ignis placed a hand on his arm. “Please, talk to me.”
Gladio hesitated, not sure of how to start putting his thoughts into words.
“I don’t know,” his voice was little more than a mutter. “I’m just thinking too much.”
“About what?”
He made another pause. Ignis waited.
“I never thought too much about it, being a Shield and all. But after what happened…” he touched the end of his scar. “I realized I could just… I don’t know…” he pressed his lips together for a moment. “Die, any day, just like that.”
That word felt like a stone on his chest, but after saying it out loud, it became easier to proceed.
“It was such a stupid fight, and still… It made me realize it’s not because I’m a Shield that I’m invincible. It should be obvious, but… I never thought about it before. Being a Shield doesn’t mean I’ll always be able to protect Noct. I can fail at this… I can die, and then there’ll be no one to protect him.” His throat felt dry. “He was crying so much at the hospital, I didn’t know what to do. It… It made me think of Iris. If anything happened to me, she’d cry like that too, and it’d be my fault.”
He felt tears in his eyes, and tried to hide them with a nervous laugh.
“I’m not making any sense, am I?”
“That’s not true,” said Ignis. “It’s alright, Gladio… I understand.”
Gladio didn’t answer, his own words still echoing on his mind. He clenched his fists, all of those thoughts suddenly feeling like too much to bear.
“I’m scared…”
As soon as he said it, something broke inside him and he started to cry. Ignis put his arm around his shoulders, bringing him closer, hugging him. Gladio leaned his head against his chest.
“It’s alright…” muttered Ignis to him, caressing his hair. “I’m here with you… It’s going to be alright.”
Gladio didn’t know for how long he stayed like that, but when he finally calmed down, he felt exhausted. It was like he had cried away every single feeling that was inside his chest, and now he felt strangely empty. Lighter.
“Sorry…” he said after a while. “I think I needed to let all this shit out.”
“Don’t worry about it. I’m just glad you talked to me.”
He looked at Ignis, offering him a light smile.
“I don’t think I’d be able to talk about all this with anyone else.” He hesitated for a second, then reached for Ignis face, gently caressing it. “Thanks for listening.”
Ignis smiled back, placing his hand over Gladio’s, holding it against his face.
“Iggy…”
“Hm?”
“Can you stay with me?”
“Of course.”
They lay beside each other, their bodies close, legs entwined. Ignis’ presence and warmth felt good. Comfortable. Calming.
For the first night in a long time, Gladio felt completely at peace.
Stop biting your lip and bite me instead! Maybe Gladio x Prompto Gimme that SMUT!!!
Heeee~~~eey, more Promptio! I actually just did this quote for another pairing (IgNyx) so it was a little tricky to come up with something different for the plot. But, well, here ya go! Jealous!Prompto and Really-wants-to-be-Dommed!Gladio having a fight and then makeup sex :)
~1,100 words, semi-NSFW
Sometimes - and only on rare occasions - Prompto can be way worse than Iris. Like today, Gladio thinks, as he follows behind his usually bright, bubbling boyfriend in an ice-cold silence.
Whatever he’s done, it’s apparently bad enough to keep Prompto from speaking to him all day. The blond won’t even look at him - which is particularly unfortunate because Ignis has decided to whisk Noct off to cash in on a Hunt, leaving the two of them behind at camp. Alone. With no interruptions.
They should be halfway to naked by now inside the privacy of the tent, in Gladio’s opinion. But instead, he’s marching after his boyfriend with an armful of the Leidan peppers they’ve just picked, and trying desperately to get some kind - any kind - of reaction out of him.
“Was it the car ride last night?” he tries again, unable to hide the exasperation from his tone. “Did I say something wrong? No? Then this morning - was it the comment about your hair?”
Though he doesn’t stop moving, Prompto does grace him with a cool glance over his shoulder. “What about my hair?”
Finally! Prom might still be pissed, but at least Gladio’s got his attention now. “Well. It was all, uh, poofy, kinda like a baby chocobo, y’know? ”
“Ugh.”
“C’mon, babe, it was a joke. And you love chocobos, right? They’re so cute, just like you.”
“I don’t care about the stupid joke, dude.” The campsite comes into view ahead of them. Carved into the rock, the protective runes glow a gentle, soothing blue in the afternoon sun; yet not soothing enough, it seems, to calm Prompto’s mood. “How do you still not get it?”
Taking a few quick strides forward, Gladio at last catches up with the blond just outside of camp. “Maybe if you tried talking to me instead of ignoring me all day, I’d know what I did to piss you off.”
“It should be obvious!”
He has to clench his jaw to keep from raising his voice in response. “Well, spell it out for me, Prom, ‘cause clearly I ain’t a mind-reader.”
Prompto throws the peppers he’s been holding into a careless pile on top of the prep table. Beside him, Gladio does the same, although with considerably more attitude, and they both turn to face each other with tight, drawn frowns.
“That guy at the diner last night.”
“What guy?”
“The cute waiter. The one who was flirting with you literally the whole night?” A splash of red appears behind dark freckles, and Prompto drops his gaze to the ground between their feet. “You looked so into him.”
For a moment, Gladio doesn’t know how to respond. Doesn’t even remember any waiter or flirting or whatever Prompto is talking about, but clearly it’s still pretty fresh in his mind. “I wasn’t into anyone last night. Except you.”
Prompto actually rolls his eyes. “You just don’t get it, Gladdy. Everywhere we go, the same thing happens. Chicks and dudes throw themselves at you, and I feel like…. I feel like I can’t compete!”
So that’s what this is about. It’s an argument they’ve had before, of course, and the problem boils down to Prom’s lack of confidence more than anything Gladio’s actually done wrong. They both know that - and they both know it isn’t an easy problem to solve. But Gladio has heard this too many times. Why can’t Prompto just trust him? “Not sure how someone flirting with me is my fault. I didn’t even notice.”
“Exactly. You’re just so used to the attention, aren’t you? You don’t even try to fend ‘em off.” Blue eyes start to fill up with the telltale precursor to actual tears, and Prompto hastily rubs at them with his hands. “It’s like you forget I exist at all.”
Nothing, Gladio thinks, could be further from the truth. He’s gotta make Prom understand that - whatever it takes.
His hand is moving before his mind has finished working out a plan. Latches onto one thin wrist and all-but yanks Prompto forward to get his attention. Holds him sternly in place as his eyes darken visibly. “I love you, idiot. Only you. If you’re so worried about other people, then get a little more aggressive.”
The blond blinks, not understanding. “Aggressive? What, like, shooting at them?”
“No, Prom! Ramuh’s beard, I mean with me! Possessive, territorial. Y’know, grab my ass and show everyone else I’m yours.”
“You….” He shakes his head as if he can’t believe what he’s hearing. “You’d let me do that?”
“Let you? Fuck, babe, it’d be fucking hot.” In demonstration, Gladio wraps his free arm around Prompto’s waist, allowing his fingers to squeeze around a mound of firm, mouth-watering ass. Prompto swallows - hard.
“But…. I’m not….”
“Babe.” He’s still on edge. They both are, but he leans in anyway, raking his teeth over Prompto’s soft pink lips in a demanding kiss. Pulls him in closer, just long enough to taste that familiar spark of need, before he’s releasing him again. “You want me? Prove it. Stop biting your lip, and bite me instead.”
In the space of a few heartbeats, Prompto makes up his mind. He doesn’t speak, but that’s because he doesn’t have to - every command is as clear as the afternoon sky above them, and soon enough Gladio’s pinned between him and the table. Groans as Prompto’s mouth closes down on the side of his neck, sharp teeth already beginning to work marks into his skin.
Hungry. Possessive.
Gladio fucking loves it.
By the time they wrestle their way over to the tent, he’s been stripped down to his boxers and left tingling all over where Prom’s mouth has sucked blood up to the surface. Dark, red hickies snake tellingly down from his neck, over the firm muscles of his chest and stomach to his hips, where the blond is currently lavishing the most attention. Prompto yanks off Gladio’s underwear, shoves him onto the bedroll, and shuts him up fast with those expert lips around his cock.
Sometimes, Gladio thinks through the fog clouding his brain, his boyfriend can be jealous and moody and hard to read. He can be tough on himself and too forgiving of others. He can be weak, and strong, cute and sexy, and everything in between.
There’s absolutely no other way Gladio would have him.
(Except...maybe with less clothing on. But they’re getting there.)
They were not ready for the deamon that game up from the ground right under them. Camp wasn’t to far as the sun was already down. Startled and in a small daze you didn’t summon your weapon fast enough turning away ready to be crushed under the blade of the deamon, but it never came. No death no pain but the loud cry from Noctis as he blocked the attack taking you from the ground getting you on your feet.
“You okay?” he asked with consent in his voice. You gave a nod before summoning you’re weapon now having time to think for a moment before rushing into battle. Tuning on your feet avoiding blow after blow the deamon was becoming weaker and weaker. Watching if for a moment thinking it was final going down but with a loud roar the deamon shot a toxin at you all, Gladio summoned his shield as the guys his behind it. Trying to get behind it in time you fell feeling the burning on your face from the toxin as is seeped into your skin.
Noctis
How he reacts
Panics
Pure panic
He falls over his feet to get to you
Grabbing you he pulls you close to him calling your name over and over again. He’s scared. He really is scared. The guys move on and take the deamon out before coming over to him as he is trying to wake you up.
Hes panicked he doesn’t know what to do
He looks to Ignis for some form of help before turning back to you and getting potions out, potions as well as antidotes something anything that might help you.
He doesn’t want to lose you
(and if he thinks lunas already gone because the fall of insomnia) he doesn’t want to lose you like he already lost Luna and his father.
So many people he cares about have died.
Ignis is going to have to force the potions out of Nocts hand talking him down.
They make camp for the night and Ignis gets you settled before Noct heads into the tent worried by the long face that was on Ignis.
When he gets inside seeing you motionless body he sits next to you looking down at you.
Hes hurt, he wants to do something but he can’t
The guys already know about his crush so it’s hard seeing Noct like this.
He didn’t want to eat his dinner when Ignis opened the flap to the tent. No matter how good is smelled or even if it was one of nocts favorite meal he would leave your side.
He would hold your hand and just break because it’s so cold, you feel as if you are already gone.
Already left him.
The guys would stay for a day or two before they really need to think of something.
Gladio and Ignis both agree on taking you to Cape Ceam.
The car ride was silent. No laughs. No warmth around them.
You normally kept them alive when on long car rides and you used to be so upbeat with them and joking.
But here you are you head on Nocts shoulder in his lap as he held you close.
You body cold to the touch.
Getting there Noct wouldn’t let the guys touch you. He held you close his jacket over you’re cold body as he walked. Limp in his arms.
Getting there Iris would answer and start throwing questions the moment she seen you.
He would take you up stairs and into the beds pulling a chair over sitting down and not moving for a while.
How he reacts to when you wake up
You have been asleep for several weeks
Almost a full month
You still cold to the touch and Noct has been not so active
He refuses to leave the place.
He would leave to get food and water but would end up back at the bed.
If they really needed him to leave he would do it but would be snippy and moody the whole time.
You would wake up when iris came to see you and bring things to keep you alive.
She would walk in the door with a few things and see you sitting up holding your head confused.
Dropping them all she would scream your name hugging you in tears.
Confused you pat the girl as she sniffles in your shirt.
What happened? You like fell asleep for a moment when you got hit by the deamon.
Why was she crying?
Did the guys do something?
Who do you have to murder
She would finally sit up rubbing her face and fumble to get her cellphone out her hands shaking as she calls Noctis.
He would answer with a sharp tone in his voice but stop the moment she tells him you’re awake.
It didn’t take long for the guys to get there. Noctis used one of iggys daggers and warped to the top of the stairs the moment he got inside.
Confused on hearing the loud thump and Nocts appearing in the door
you freeze like a deer in headlights.
The look he is giving you is filled with pain.
He walks past Iris to you as you open your mouth to ask him what’s wrong but his lips meet yours and it’s a hard kiss.
You had a small crush on the prince for a while but why was he acting like this.
Letting him kiss you he held your face in his hands looking you over. Almost as if you were fake.
Sitting on the side of the bed he explains what happened.
“y/n… we thought well.. I thought you were going to leave us.. I.. it was the acid from the deamon we fought.” noct reaches for your hand taking it in his. He was shaking so bad as he felt the tears run down his face. “I thought i lost you for good.. I keep losing people and i didnt want to lose you as well” he let the tears ceom free something he never did often.
Normally Noct held all his tears inside as well as his emotions but now now he was coming undone. You felt your heart thump louder as you moved your hand to wipe the tears away from his face. He never came undone like this you never seen him like this. Pulling him closer to you’re frame sitting up his head fell on your shoulder letting his shoulders shake some leaning your head on his rubbing his back. He needed to get these emotions he held in for so long out.
“Y/n… i know this might be a bad time, but i need to tell you this i wanted to tell you before all of this but i want to tell you know, i love you, i love you so much” he said turning his head looking in your e/c eyes. Giving him a soft smile leaning into him. “About time you said something” you sigh hissing his head and hugging him as he wraps his arms around you as well tears that ran down his face slowly moving down and dripping onto the bed and you. He didn’t want to let go. He was scared he might lose you again.
Prompto
How he reacts
He screams
He screams your name and bolts out from behind Gladios shield when the guys let him go. Rushing to your side he falls to his knees hand sout not sure where to touch you. It takes him a moment but he reaches for your shoulders turning you so you’re on you’re back and shakes you some calling you name.
He’s in tears they are running down his face and he’s a mess.
Hes leaning over you confused.
Why won’t you wake up
Please.. Please he needs to see your eyes
He wants to hear you laugh again
He wants you to make silly poses for pictures again
You’re alive! You HAVE TO BE!
When the guys defeat the monster they come back to you and Prompto.
Prom is refusing to let you go destroyed. He was going to tell you at camp later today how he felt about you. He was going to confess to his feelings. He wanted to tell you he loved you.
Now, maybe just maybe he never got the chance to tell you that.
Gladio had to pick him up as he struggled to get from his arms shouting that something was wrong with you, you didn’t wake up, you aren’t breathing.
Ignis leans down taking your pulse and what not to confirm you are still alive, but barely.
The guys get you to a hotel room. Prompto’s request. He sits on your bed glancing over at you every few second. His Camera in his hand as he is flipping through pictures. Some of the guys and him but several of them of you.
Wide awake bright and glowing you’re you’re h/l h/c a bright smile on your lips. Laughing and making funny poses for him.
Noctis come to talk to prompto on how he was feeling. He doesn’t say anything to him. Ignis stands silent for a moment before turning to gladio and Noct. “Why don’t we go into the diner across the street for a meal tonight?” Gladio gets up and so does Noct.
“You going to be fine?” Noct asked prompto but only got a nod from his best friend.
Leaving with the others Prompto sits still for a moment looking at his Camera of you leaning on him with a smile alongside him. A single droplet hits the scream as he turns the camera away using his other hand to hide his face in letting himself fall apart again.
Why.. Why did this happen.
It took some time but he turned to you brushing some hair back on your head before sniffling.
“Why.. why didn’t you get to us in time.. Please please wake up soon.. I miss you.. No Six i love you i wanted to tell you tonight under the stars that i loved you” he leans forward placing a kiss on your head before leaning his forehead on yours tears hitting your face he he wipes his tears from your face.
He is scared to touch you.
You’re not warm anymore.
You’re ice cold to his fingers.
He doesn’t like the fact he can’t hear or see you breath
It’s so shallow. He thinks he will lose you and he will never let you know how he feels about you.
He’s broken for so long.
He refuses to talk and move all he does is look at his camera while the guys are trying to make a plan on what to do with you.
How he reacts to when you wake up
The guys agreed to move you to the Hunters HQ
It was the closest place as well as something they needed to figure out what happened
They knew the most about the things.
You had been trapped in you’re sleep for almost 2 months.
It’s been hard on Prompto.
Hes so frail now and quiet.
He feels like you’re on the edge of death.
He came to visit you again after a hunt.
Sitting on the side of the bed he ran his hand over you’re cold face. “Hey… im back again.. Things went will with our hunt today”
He was silent for a while and sighed feeling a tear slide down his face again. Reaching out for your hand he feels it twitch and he freezes.
You mumble something you eyes blinking open and groan in pain at the sudden bright light.
Prompto is frozen. You awake, you’re AWAKE!
He screams your name and clings onto you’re crying into your shirt. His face in your chest as his body shakes with cries. He rambling on how much he missed you. He thought you died and he loves you so much.
It takes you a moment to catch all that’s going on but smile and take your hand running it into his blonde hair.
You mumble his name you’re voice hoarse and dry and take a breath as he looks up at you with his violet eyes glossed over by tears.
You smiled at him. It’s been a long time you wanted to see this blonde person. With a painful smile you run your fingers in his hair. “Prom-”
“You’re back.. I’m so happy you’re back i missed you so much-”
“Prompto… i know i hurd you” He stopped for a moment looking at you.
“What do you mean?” he asked rubbing his eye for a moment to see your face better without the tears.
“I hurd it all, what you said everyday.. Thank you” he smiled.
“I wanted to keep you up to date on us all” he didn’t want to let you go. Wrapping your arms around him you took in the silence of having him hold onto you not wanting to leave you alone.
“Prompto? Did you mean what you said ? that you loved me?” you asked looking at his face. Prompto was silent for a while before he nods looking away. He was flustered he let it slip so many times. He wanted to tell you and all this time he thought you never hurd him. With a smile on your face you cupped his face pulling it closer for a kiss on his sweet lips. It was warm and welcoming kiss. Prompto leaned in closer with a smile on his face as you pulled away some. “I love you to Prompto” you smiled as you felt a tear slide down your face. You wanted to tell him for so long. Each and every day you laid with your eyes closed you wanted to tell him.
Gladio
How he Reacts
He felt his chest tighten.
His heart skipped a beat
Watching you scream in horror and go limp his head snapped.
When the toxins are no long in the hair he’s rushing into battle
Hes filled with rage
Anger
Everything between pain and anger his hit with a wave of emotions and he takes it out on the deamon.
One the deamon is dead he will look over to your body hoping you got up.
But all he is greeted with is ignis holding you in his arms trying to get a response from you.
All Gladio can think is that you’re gone.
You left him alone
Well not only him but the guys.
You used to be so cheerful
Never did shy away when he would flirt with you.
Why
He told you the night before how he felt but you wanted some time to think.
You told him you would tell him that night on what you thought of it.
He agreed and kept to himself that day and acted as if nothing happened the night before.
He’s scared to get closer. He wants to cry. He really does.
He shouts your name his voice filled with emotions as he gets to your body in iggy’s hands.
Gladio gently takes you from Iggy and looks you over in his arms.
The guys didn’t say anything as they knew of the request from the night before.
Noctis was spying on you two with Prompto when they hurd him ask at the edge of Camp.
surprised both of them fled before this could get horrible for their eyes to see.
The guys didn’t know about your answer by by how Gladio was acting. Something happened last night that brought you two closer.
They made a camp that night in a nearby haven. Gladio didn’t want to go into the tent that night as he sat there thinking about you. The way you looked and how your eyes would light up with the glow of the campfire.
You took his breath away when he would see you smile.
But now, now he didn’t know if he could ever see your face light up like it has done before. It takes him some time and talking to from ignis to go into the tent and to sit by your side incase you did wake up.
Gladio agreed and went into the tent.
He stopped the moment he seen you
Laying there in a bedrool face resting as if you are asleep.
Sitting on the ground he felt a tear slide down his face before he could catch it but let it fall touching your hands that resting on your middle.
Cold
That’s all he felt
Cold under his large warm hands.
He sat there before Ignis came inside of the tent telling Prompto and Noct to sit by the fire.
He talks with Gladio about what happened.
He knows about these deamons and what they do to people.
Gladio felt his heart sink more.
Ignis suggested to take you to Cape caem with Talcot and Gladios younger sister iris.
Gladio didn’t want to take you there, no it would be hard on is sister he didn’t want to watch her suffer but he needed to.
They needed to get you someplace safe and have someone watch you.
Gladio held you in the car. He didn’t say anything but held you close. He wanted to try and warm up up in some way. But no matter what you always felt cold.
Leaving you there was the hardest thing he could ever do. He didn’t want to let you go he was scared to leave. But he couldn’t stand seeing you like this.
How he reacts to when you wake up
He has been gone for a while. He left for some time. The guys had no idea how to find him.
He wouldn’t answer his phone he just disappeared for a while.
Gladio had to leave for some time because he needed to clear his head.
He wanted to be ready to know that he could lose you any day.
He came back almost 2 months later. It was in the middle of the night. The guys all fell asleep and he walked into Iris room where she was still asleep. He did his best not to wake her. Sitting on your bed he looked at your face.
Still to peaceful like a dream then the last time he seen you.
Iris shifts in her own bed making him freeze for a second before going back to you. He feels horrible for leaving but he needed to clear his mind. Getting ready to leave in the semi dark room he stood up and places a kiss on your head.
Gladio didn’t want to leave but he knew the guys would he angry at him if the found him. Holding your hand tighter he felt a tear glide down his face into the stubble on his face. Leaning his forehead on yours he chewed his lip to keep quiet.
“I love you so much y/n, i’m sorry but i’m going to leave again.. Please wake up.. I want to see you hear you’re again” he kissed your nose then you’re lips letting them linger for a while before he stood up turning away letting your hand go but stopped feeling cold fingers grab his wrist in a weak tug.
“Gladio” you’re voice was faint and horse from being asleep for so long. Gladio froze turning his head around so fast it could have snapped his neck. “Please.. Dont go again” you whimpered feeling tears fall down your face. You could hear everyone. Each day of being asleep you wanted to scream to them. Tell them you’re there and you can hear them. You are here and want them to know, stop worrying about you.
Gladio choked on a sob as he gripped you tightly taking you’re smaller fame into his arms and refused to let you go. He quietly sobbed in your arms gripping you like if he let go he would lose you all over again.
A Light turned on in the room as Iris gasped. She looked at the people before her. Gladio clutching onto you as he tried to keep his sobs quiet. You finally awake letting him holding on scared that if you close your eyes again or let him go you wouldn’t wake up again.
“Gladio! y/n!” Iris beamed before taking into account that you might want some alone time. Getting up from her bed her bare feet moved over the wooden floors as she made her way for the guys room knocking on the door asking to come in.
Gladio didnt care what anyone seen at this moment. He didnt care what they said all he cared about at the moment was he had you in his arms again. Alive, awake and breathing, moving and everything.
“Y/n, i love you so much, please please forgive me for leaving you” you didn’t say anything as you held back you’re own sobs. Only a nod before he crashed his lips into yours again. Taking a while before he broke away he moved his roug large hand and wiped away tears.
“I love you to” you said softly leaning into his hand not wanting to look away from those bright amber eyes.
Ignis
How he reacts
His blood ran cold.
He shouted your name when he noticed you wouldn’t get behind the shield fast enough.
Watching you fall he wanted to run after you himself
His was something he didn’t think Iggy would do.
Gladio had to grab him and hold him back as the toxins hit you’re skin.
Ignis knew what it did
He knew what deamon this was
He tried to tell them before they ran into battle.
No one listened to him.
When Gladio let you go to finish the deamon he fell to you’re side looking over you’re skin watching as the toxins seemed into your skin away from his sight.
“You’re going to be fine y/n”
That was the only thing he could say. Over and over again as he tried to think of something, anything he could remember to help you.
Nothing came into his mind as he tried a few special potions he had stashed away.
When the fight was over the rest of them walked over to iggy as he frantically tried almost everything he could.
Gladio had to place his hand on iggys to get his attention.
Ignis started to explain the deamon and the toxins it used.
The guys didn’t say anything but looked at your body as it slept. You’re body grew colder and colder as Ignis held you there.
“We are leaving for a hotel room tonight” he said picking you up and turning away from the guys. They never seen Iggy like this. Something was off about how he was acting. Gladio knew what it was.
He was the only one who new about the crush became he asked Gladio about a pick up line once.
Ignis placed you between Gladio and Noctis for them to hold you still as he drove. He removed his jacket and placed it around your body. As he drove to the closest hotel he kept looking back at your body as your head would move to the side of each turn or small movement of the car.
“Gladio, hold y/n head still.. They will hurt there neck if it keeps moving like that”
When the hotel room was bought Gladio carried you inside as Ginis did not show any emotions on his face.
It was blan
Nothing
The guys were trying to figure something out, maybe trying to get iggy to talk to them?
He seemed to be the most stressed about this whole thing.
Prompto, Noct and Gladio wanted to head to the dinner and asked Iggy to come along but he said he wanted to stay with you and keep trying to wake you.
Once the guys leave he removes his glasses and sits on the other side of the bed watching you’re sleeping form.
The shallow rise and fall of your chest.
Then he loses it.
He lets tears fall down his cheeks. He held it in all this time and put his hands over his face letting a small sob come from his mouth.
He didn’t want it to come to this.
He was starting to get scared
So many people die in this state
And so many never wake up again.
He talks to the the hotel manager and request that they stay there and will pay him to let them.
He agrees and they stay there for awhile.
How he reacts to when you wake up
Ignis would be sitting in the hotel room for the past 2 months.
reading books over every deamon known. He has been trying to wake you for so long.
Hes heart broken.
He has feelings for you he never though he would be able to admit
He would talk to you every day
And so would the guys
One day they needed gil
And they left telling iggy they will be back.
Ignis lets them and looks back to your body
His heart was jumping out of his chest again
It hurt seeing you still like this.
He started to think he would never see you’re bright e/c eyes again.
How love how you enjoyed his food
Or helped him cook from time to time
Ignis is sitting on the side of your bed as he started to chat. It was something he tends to do because some victims can still hear. He didn’t want to let you feel lonely in this slumber that claim you. He started to calm about random things. From how the guys are small rants about Noct not eating and being picky again. Small things that he used to talk to you all the time about. After some time he stops and his voice fades away as he comes to realize something. He keeps calling you Love and dear.
His head leaps out of his chest as he sighs. As he leans forward his hands on his face as he takes his glasses off holding them in his other hand.
“Y/n.. i am sorry i couldn’t keep you safe from the deamon love.. Please forgive me.. I love you so much” he said as the tears left him again. His heart swelled as he thinks about you. He wants nothing more to wrap his arms around you kissing you. He jumps out of his skin when he feels someone touch on his back.
“Ignis…” you’re voice was soft and almost dead silent as it came out. Turning to face you he reached out a hand scared to touch you. Scared if he moved his hand wrong you would shatter under his touch.
“You’re awake….” he said softly before leaning in closer to you. He froze as you moved the rest of the way catching his lips in a sweet kind kiss. A smile fell on your face looking at him. Pulling away some you looked at him.
“Did you mean that? You love me?” Ignis is silent for a while but nods and kisses your head.
“I do mean that love.. Please sit up and let me get you something to eat and drink” you nod before giving him a soft kiss again.
“Six y/n.. I love you so much”“I love you to Ignis…”
Gladio rolled over in his open sleeping bag, tossing his arm across Ignis. He woke when Prompto accidentally kicked him on the way out, but he didn’t bother getting up. Truthfully, he was waiting for Ignis to stir, which didn’t seem likely to happen anytime soon. The man slept like Noctis, which now that he thought about it, made sense.
Chuckling to himself, Gladio decided he should probably get up now before the day progressed too much further. Stretching, he pressed his knuckles into his back as he arched his spine. Something popped, and he winced as he straightened up. The floor was not the most comfortable of places, but it was worth it to sleep next to Ignis.
Squatting next to the sleeping man, Gladio poked his shoulder. “Hey.”
No response beyond an adorable little snort.
“C’mon, Iggy. Time to rise and shine,” he continued, patting the man’s cheek.
Grumbling, Ignis scowled and swatted Gladio’s hand away. He snuggled deeper into his sleeping bag, part of his face disappearing inside.
Hanging his head, Gladio found himself grinning. “Okay, while this is really cute, you should get up.”
Though Ignis didn’t answer, a twitch of his brow showed he was awake and listening.
“Geez, now I know how you feel trying to get Noct up in the morning,” sighed Gladio, shaking his head. Standing up, he stepped over Ignis’ sleeping bag and planted one foot to either side of his knees. Squatting over the man, he took hold of the sleeping bag and pulled. Ignis barely budged, but he turned his head down to hide a smirk.
“Oh, right. Not as strong as I was,” grumbled Gladio, a tinge of pink dusting his cheeks. “Oh well, plan B will work.” Releasing the bag, his hand moved to the zipper on the side. Tugging it down nice and slow, he changed his squat to a straddle and leaned over Ignis’ partially obscured face.
Ignis’ brow creased, and he tried to sink into himself.
“Don’t care if this is Noct’s body, if you don’t get up Iggy, I’m gonna break the no touching rule in a big way.”
Groaning, Ignis finally cracked his eyes open. “Fine. I’m up.”
“There he is. Mornin’, babe.”
“Why are you so chipper?” Ignis complained as he sat up.
Gladio shrugged, sitting back on his heels. “Dunno. Just in a good mood, I guess.”
Rolling his eyes, Ignis gave Gladio a shove, knocking him on his backside. “I slept solidly all night, yet I still feel exhausted.”
“Welcome to Being Noctis.”
Ignis yawned widely.
“Want me to get you some Ebony?” Gladio asked, springing to his feet.
“If you would be so kind, darling.”
“Darling? You sure you’re awake?” laughed Gladio, leaning over to ruffle Ignis’ hair.
“I’ll come up with a suitable pet name yet,” he sighed, wrinkling up his nose.
“Keep working on it.” Grinning, Gladio left Ignis with a wink and went to retrieve the man’s coffee. Whistling to himself, he practically bounced as he crossed the road to the car. If being in Prompto’s body gave him this much energy, he wasn’t going to complain.
“Get away from me!”
“Noctis, wait!”
Stopping mid-step, Gladio looked toward the yelling. A short distance up the road, Noctis was practically running away from a confused and hurt-looking Prompto.
“Why can’t you just take the hint?”
“What hint? Why are you so mad at me? What did I do?”
Frustration marred Noctis’ face, but he didn’t answer.
“It’s really hard to leave you alone when you’re so clearly upset, Noct. Please, I just wanna help.”
“There’s nothing to help. I—” Noctis looked up, eyes landing on Gladio. His face flushed dark red and he grit his teeth. Stopping abruptly, Prompto almost walked into him as he turned around. Eyes locked on his feet, he mumbled something to the man before him. He let whatever words he spoke sink in for a moment, turned, and made a bee-line for the caravan.
Eyes wide, Gladio stared after Noctis. “What the hell was that about?” When Prompto didn’t give him so much as a grunt in response, Gladio turned his attention toward him. His stomach hit the floor before leaping into his throat at the expression Prompto presented him with. It couldn’t be described as anything but absolute devastation and heartbreak. He didn’t even know his face could make such an expression.
“Oh, shit,” he sighed, scrubbing a hand through his hair. “Hey, Prompto. What’s going on?” he asked, voice soft as he approached the man.
Brows drawn, Prompto raised his eyes to meet Gladio’s. “I…I don’t know what I did.”
Though he couldn’t relate, Gladio definitely sympathized with the pain clear on Prompto’s face. “C’mon, Pipsqueak. Come sit down and tell me what’s up.”
“Don’t treat me like Iris,” Prompto muttered, dropping into the back seat of the Regalia when Gladio opened the door.
Gladio scoffed, leaning against the side of the car. “If you think I’m treating you like Iris, clearly you’ve never had to deal with my sister when she’s moody. Relax, I’m not gonna make fun of you or tease you.”
Prompto’s shoulders fell. “He…” His voice wavered, and he paused, closing his eyes while taking a deep breath. “Um…he just told me he didn’t want to see my face for a while.”
Wrinkling up his nose, Gladio narrowed his eyes. “What? That doesn’t sound like something he’d say, no matter how upset he is.”
“I know! That’s why I’m confused. He was fine last night, so I don’t know what happened in between.” Propping his elbows on his knees, Prompto let his head hang as he sighed heavily.
“Are you sure it’s you he’s mad at? He said your face, but did he mean you as in me? Or you as in you?” Gladio asked.
“I don’t know, Gladio. This whole mess is screwing with everything so bad. How would you feel if Iggy told you he didn’t want to see your face? It doesn’t feel very nice, no matter the circumstance.”
“Maybe he feels guilty because his body reacted to yours, and in his own stupid way he’s trying to help? I don’t pretend to know what goes on in his head, but I do know he loves you, Prompto. It’s gotta be the curse talking, so don’t take it personally,” Gladio said, putting his hand on Prompto’s shoulder.
A humorless smirk tugged at the corner of Prompto’s mouth. “Thanks. You always seem to be the one stuck with giving me pep talks.”
“I don’t mind.”
“I know that’s a lie, but I appreciate it anyway.”
Rolling his eyes, Gladio squeezed Prompto’s shoulder before dropping his arm to his side. He wasn’t going to try convincing the man he honestly didn’t mind. While he may not be the greatest at giving advice, he was okay offering his ear to Prompto. Ever since their bonding experience when he helped their little chocobo-headed friend with his crush on Noctis, he found his protective instincts covered Prompto more than they had in the past.
“I hate to interrupt, but may I inquire about His Highness’ mood?” Ignis asked, drawing Gladio’s attention. “It’s quite disturbing to see tears in his eyes at the best of times, but to see them on my own face is another matter entirely.”
Mentally kicking himself for not noticing the man earlier, Gladio pushed himself away from the car and eyed Ignis’ hair. He had combed and gelled the normally spikey strands back in a fair facsimile of a pompadour.
Ignoring Gladio’s raised eyebrows, Ignis focused on Prompto. “May I ask?”
“He’s been like that since I got up,” Prompto answered half-heartedly.
“Told Prompto he didn’t want to see his face for a while. Clearly he’s got his panties in a bunch about something.”
“And I presume he’s not interested in talking about the problem?” sighed Ignis, pinching the bridge of his nose. “Well, this certainly puts a hitch in things.”
“Not to be a jerk or anything, but that’s the last thing on my mind right now,” Prompto grumbled.
Stepping forward, Gladio put himself between Ignis and Prompto. “I get that’s important, Ig’, but that’s a little harsh.”
“I’m not trying to make light of the situation. I apologize, Prompto.”
The man waved his hand dismissively. “S’okay.”
“No, it’s not, Prom. Noctis should know better than to treat you like shit just because he’s in a bad mood,” growled Gladio, flicking a glance over his shoulder.
Prompto started up at Gladio with wide eyes. “While I appreciate the sentiment, please don’t use that nickname again. It’s weird coming from you.”
“That’s what you took from that?” Gladio asked, voice flat, one brow arched.
Prompto shrugged. “Maybe he’ll talk to you, Ig’. He wouldn’t even look me in the eye, and we’re not sure if it’s me he’s mad at, or Gladio.”
Dipping his head in a nod, Ignis crossed his arms. “I’ll see what I can do. Perhaps you two ought to make yourselves scarce in the meantime?”
Turning to Prompto, Gladio shrugged. “Wanna grab some breakfast? Then you can help me put these stupid contact lenses in.”
Prompto’s entire body deflated with a heavy sigh before he pushed himself to his feet. “Yeah, I guess,” he agreed, shutting the car door.
“Please play nice,” Ignis told the pair.
“We’ll be fine, Ig’. Just go sort out Prince Crabby. We got this.” Gladio gave Ignis a reassuring grin before chasing after Prompto.
Grumbling low in his throat, Ignis rubbed a hand over his face. “At least they’re getting along again.” Turning back toward the caravan, he closed his eyes. He certainly had his work cut out for him today.
Love Triangle Part 4 (Final Fantasy XV Scenario)
Last part to the scenario requested by @xionroxas, enjoy!
Part 1 – Part 2 – Part 3
S/O CONFESSING TO IGNIS AND GLADIO CONFESSING TO S/O
You were the only one to hurry to your feet upon hearing a loud thud behind you all, just to see Prompto laying on the ground holding his lower back and kicking his legs around like a child.
“Are you okay?!” You exclaimed, alarmed. “What happened?!”
The blond just shook his head, waving his hand around, as he grimaced in pain and sulked like a five year old.
“He was messing around and fell” Noctis said for him, looking straight into your eyes with amusement.
You sighed in exasperation and stood up, watching how the prince shook his friend while the blond lingered on that position.
“Children…” You said as you took your seat again between Gladio and Ignis, rolling your eyes at their immaturity.
“I told you he was okay” Gladio nudged you softly, laughing a little.
“Now I get why you didn’t even look at them” You replied with a chuckle, glancing at Ignis and observing his reaction.
He was calmly drinking his Ebony, but as soon as he took a sip he focused his green eyes on you.
“You should be used to it by now, Y/N” He told you with a small smile.
That simple gesture flustered you, causing you to have the urge to throw your arms around him but you controlled yourself. Ignis was just so loving and charming, such an interesting and endearing person to be around.
How could you not have feelings for him?
You stared at him, not even dazed when the usual thoughts filled your head. The desire to confess to him, just to see what would happen. Every time Ignis did something mildly charming –which was basically his whole demeanor –or showed you how fond he was of you, it made you want to do it.
“Ignis?” You piped up after a moment of silence.
You wondered how long you were immersed in your own thoughts about your crush, because Prompto and Noctis had already entered the tent. You could hear them chatting and laughing behind you.
Gladio and Ignis grew silent, their eyes directed to the fire in front of you that kept you warm and safe during the night.
“Yes?” He replied, locking eyes with you again.
“Could I have a word with you?” There, you said it, before you got cold feet.
“Of course” The man immediately stood up, motioning for you to follow him.
You absently looked over your shoulder as you did, glancing at Gladio. There was something in his expression that you couldn’t read, he seemed troubled.
You told yourself that you would ask him about it later to make sure everything was okay with him. For now, you needed to focus on such an important moment for you.
“Is something the matter, Y/N?” Ignis got your attention back.
“Um…”
“Don’t be afraid to tell me, you know this conversation is completely confidential”
You smiled a little, appreciating his support and encouragement. It just reminded you why you loved him so much.
“Truth is I have…” A gulp arrived to your throat without a warning, stopping you midsentence because of the nerves. You didn’t give up, you paused for a second and kept talking. “I developed certain… feelings… for you”
His arms, which were crossed over his chest, fell to his sides in shock. At first he didn’t speak, he just adjusted his glasses in silence and stood there.
After a few more seconds in which he frowned and stirred awkwardly in the spot, Ignis finally opened his mouth to speak. You couldn’t help but to think about how soft and attractive his lips were, but you shook that thought off your head.
“Well…” He started, clearing his throat. “I feel flattered, of course… But I’m afraid I don’t reciprocate those feelings, Y/N”
“You don’t…” You uttered, feeling stupid and hurt.
“I’m truly sorry” Ignis’ eyes were directed somewhere behind you for a moment before they fell over you again. You wondered what he was looking at, since the only thing behind you was Gladio. “I just see you as a good friend. And an outstanding person”
“I see” Was all you could reply, dumbfounded. You had hoped that maybe he felt the same way.
“I hope this incident doesn’t get in the way of our friendship”
“No! I… I would hate it if that happened”
“Then it’s settled, we’ll leave it behind us and move on if that’s alright with you”
“Absolutely” You nodded gravely, knowing that you could be mature enough to do as he asked.
“I’m glad to hear that” To your surprise, Ignis’ arm wrapped around your frame.
He softly brought you closer to him in what was a clear sign of friendship and fondness. Yet it was something rare in him since Ignis was never the physical type.
When you two broke apart, his hands rested on your shoulders as he gave you a comforting smile. You deeply appreciated the gesture.
“I should get some sleep now” You mumbled, feeling a bit awkward in spite of it all. “Thank you, Ignis”
If you had confessed to someone else they would have made a big deal out of it. But Ignis, as usual, was calm and collected about it. He was mature enough to respectfully express his opinion and move on, not letting your disagreement drift you apart.
Yet you couldn’t help but to feel like it would be a bit violent for you to be around him at first. But surely, it could be much worse.
You just wanted to get in the tent, hoping that Noctis and Prompto were quiet enough to let you sleep, and forget everything.
Heading for the tent, you stopped by Gladio since you had to walk by him anyway. Remembering about his odd demeanor before and wanting to make sure he was okay, you placed a hand on his shoulder.
“Hey, Gladdy” Ever since you heard Iris call him like that, you loved to use that cute nickname to get his attention.
He had been absent –something unusual in him –but he quickly set his amber eyes on you upon hearing your voice.
“What’s up, Y/N?”
“You okay? You look thoughtful”
“Yeah” He chuckled, resting a finger on his temple with a playful smirk plastered on his lips. “I’m not all brawn, I think too”
That display of humor was proof that he was his usual self. He was just probably tired or a bit reflective, was all.
“Okay” You chuckled too, enthusiastically patting his shoulder since your hand lingered there. “Just making sure”
“Why? Were you worried?”
“Nah. Just wanted to be sure that your broody mood didn’t make you hug me in your sleep and crush me”
Gladio let out a loud guffaw of laughter, definitely not expecting that witty and sassy comment. You enjoyed teasing each other, you couldn’t have those kind of conversations with any of the other boys.
“Get the hell to sleep, smartass” He pushed you softly, forcing you to head back to the tent as you giggled to yourself.
Your laughter slowly died down as you got inside and lied down, ignoring the lazy boys playing on their phones.
“Going to sleep?” Noctis asked you, his eyes still on the screen.
“Yup”
“Night, Y/N!”
“Goodnight”
“Goodnight, boys”
You curled up in your spot, closing your eyes and suddenly feeling hopeful and happy again. You hadn’t forgotten about your conversation with Ignis, but it didn’t feel so important all of a sudden.
*
Turned out that it bothered you more than usual, because you barely got any sleep at all last night. Your brain wouldn’t shut up, and you were turning and tossing the whole night.
So it was no strange that you wouldn’t stop yawning while you were riding the car. You just wished you had Noctis’ facility to fall asleep anywhere. In that exact moment, he was taking a peaceful nap.
You were tempted to rest your head on his shoulder or use Gladio as a pillow to try it anyway, even knowing you wouldn’t fall asleep. But at least you would be comfortable and you’d close your eyes and rest a little.
“What’s wrong with you?” Gladio bumped his shoulder into yours. “You look exhausted”
“I didn’t get any sleep last night” You mumbled, rubbing your eyes to try and leave the drowsiness behind.
It was infuriating, though, because you just couldn’t fall asleep! No matter how tired you were or how sleepy! Your body wouldn’t let you.
He didn’t reply at first, he just grew silent for a moment. Then came a sigh before he broke the silence.
“Look, I know what happened last night and-“
“Did Ignis tell you?”
You looked at him, even if he was too busy arguing with Prompto about the music. Those two were always fighting over the music or over the fact that the blond wouldn’t sit still.
However, you could have sworn Ignis was peeking at you through the rear view mirror and hurriedly averted his eyes when yours fell on him.
“He didn’t need to” Gladio told you gravely. “I figured it out all on my own”
Judging by his bitter tone, you realized he was hurt by it all. Maybe you weren’t as secretive about your crush on Ignis as you thought. But why would your crush bother Gladio? Unless…
“Gladdy, I-“ You began to say, finally making sense out of everything.
That was why he was so moody last night, just when you confessed your undying love for Ignis. For someone else.
“Shut up, you don’t have to say anything” At least there was his grin again, back on his lips were it belonged. “Now you know, that’s all”
“I’m sorry” It felt like you had neglected him, like you were too busy admiring Ignis to realize how much Gladio loved you and how you hadn’t reciprocated the fondness.
“Don’t be” He kindly placed his arm over your shoulders and attracted you closer to him.
You briefly looked around you, wondering if any of the boys were watching this exchange. Prompto and Ignis were still talking –even if more relaxed now, but they were engrossed in their conversation, too much to mind you and Gladio –and Noctis was fast asleep. And that boy was a heavy sleeper, he could sleep through an earthquake.
So you gave into the embrace and snuggled closer to his side, actually enjoying the closeness and the coziness.
“I feel like-“ You wanted to tell him you appreciated him too, you wanted to reassure him because he surely felt conflicted about you.
“Why don’t you stop freaking out and get some sleep?” His grin widened, and you realized his eyes were filled with sweetness and fondness. “You could really use a nap”
“You don’t mind me resting over you?” I knew it was a stupid question, but I felt the need to ask it anyway.
“It will be my pleasure, Y/N”
You didn’t need anything else, you got comfortable in the seat and rested your head on his muscular chest, only to find yourself being extremely comfortable.
Still, despite how cozy it felt, you doubted you would get any sleep. That was, until Gladio’s hands touched your hair. He knew you way better than you thought.
His big hands were extremely gentle as he caressed your head and tenderly held you close. You were pleasantly surprised to see that he was lulling you to sleep.
“You two, cut it out!” He said to Ignis and Prompto, loud enough for your friends to hear. “Y/N here is trying to sleep!”
You could definitely get used to being loved and spoiled like that. Gladio was even more amazing than you first thought.
You were very aware of that smile on your lips, even if you couldn’t erase it. You just were happy there, because you adored Gladio. In one way or another.
Well, that was all of it! I hope you guys enjoyed reading this little scenario saga with all the Chocobros :D
Afternoon Gifts 5
So this is about to get pretty choppy, because yes babies are cute, but when they’re really small they pretty much only do like...five things. Those things are great! but not for writing about, sorry. So small time skips!
They settle into something like a routine around week three. Noctis is the one who struggles through getting both the little ones settled into their cribs and who rubs backs and tummies until they fall asleep. He has too much going on to stay up into the wee hours, but he tries to stay up a while longer than he used too, just in case they wake.
Prompto gets up early, is already quietly waiting when the first little whimper starts up and they trade off in the middle of the night when it’s needed. Thankfully it’s not as frequent and Ignis assures them, yes, all of this is perfectly acceptable.
There’s a few things that well...don’t get planned for so well.
“I don’t understand.”
Noctis makes a helpless gesture with his right hand, his left holding the limp rag he’d grabbed in a vain attempt to clean.
“No, seriously, out of something that small, I don’t...what?”
Prompto’s voice tips up in pitch and he surveys the damage again, the small dining room reeks and it looks like a particularly nasty liquid bomb exploded over parts of the table, the chair, and Noctis’ arms.
“He was crying so I picked him up and then it just...so much. So, so, so much, Prom you gotta help me.”
Prompto purses his lips and turns back to their children. Azreal is contentedly sucking on the ear of his stuffed chocobo (really it’s a blanket with a head but eh) and Illyria is waving her little hands above her head and chattering to her uninterested brother.
“That wasn’t very punk-pop of you mister” Prompto tells the little boy, trying, and failing spectacularly, to frown seriously. The baby simply responds by dropping the cloth from his mouth and immediately crying for it.
Prompto huffs and maneuvers it back into place, “If you keep them from rolling away, I’ll go get a mop and some vapor rub, because my nose is gonna be fried if I keep breathing this.”
Noctis, face still screwed up, just nods and waves a hand at him, soiled rag falling onto the table with a useless plop as he moves to their children. The blanket they’re laying on is spread on the floor and he folds down to sit with them easily as Prompto leaves.
“Babies are gross.”
Noctis uses his best authoritative tone and lightly brushes his fingers over Illyria’s cheek, feeling justified by her gurgling in response.
“That’s right, they smell up palaces. They also keep their parents from having any alone time.”
She makes another noise, which Noctis imagines means something like, “but we’re very cute.”
He shrugs, giving her that in their very one-sided conversation as he carefully checks her diaper, it’s dry and he prays it stays that way until they can deal with her brother’s explosion. Azreal’s foot bumps his knee and he checks around him before leaning down to kiss it.
“She’s right, you're too cute to be mad at bud, even if you’re a little demon.”
“I don’t know, I’d like to keep them our little secrets forever.”
Noctis leans against Prompto’s shoulder, cradling his son as Prompto holds their girl. They’ve learned so much in so little time, after all, what’s four months when they have their entire lives?
Prompto’s voice is soft, and Noctis wants to agree, wants to keep their children safe. Everything happened so fast, too fast really and now...
“It’s still a bit unreal man, we didn’t have kids, now we do and tomorrow we have to tell the world all about them. We don’t even really know them yet!”
Noctis tries to keep the stress of his responsibilities from coloring his tone, but the strain is obvious and Prompto sighs under him.
“It’s not like there’s going to be microphones in their faces and they wont start school for so long...they’ll be fine Noct.”
It’s hard, because Noctis has no frame of reference. Sure, he’s royal and he was a kid, but it’s not like he remembers being a baby, and they lost his mom so early the media attention was directed elsewhere. By the time he was old enough that the reporters might have started in, he was hurt and in a foriegn country, and then the war started and really...he was just a fact of life in Insomnia before there was ever a big media buzz.
“Prompto-”
“Noctis.”
The tone does it, mildly annoyed but endlessly fond and Noctis feels his tension start to drain.
“I’m overthinking it again, huh?”
“So hard dude.”
He laughs a little and brushes a soft black curl, longer now, back from Azreal’s forehead. Looking at his little boy he feels his heart swell. He and Prompto are still messy and unsure of a lot and he’s still not convinced they’re going to be particularly great parent’s as the kids grow, but for now...well they’ve been doing alright and as he watches their daughters mouth stretch into a wide oval as she yawns, he knows he’d die before he gave them up.
The media is buzzing in the press room they’ve set up and Ignis is running interference as various reporters attempt to get an early access hint on why they’ve been called. It helps that Gladiolus is shadowing him with an extra moody glower. He doesn’t like the stress they’re about to layer onto the new parents.
“Remind me why we couldn’t just issue a statement?”
Ignis pushes his glasses up again, “It would create a paperwork mess as requests came in for photoshoots and the like, as well as possible speculation about where the children come from and all sorts of things. We might as well take care of it all in one fell swoop.”
It’s a practiced argument already and Ignis feels the start of a headache that he determinedly shoves down. Noctis is a mess enough about things without him and he thanks the six again for Prompto’s handling of the Prince. Objectively Prompto’s taken to be a royal very well, his handling of the press has been clean and Ignis could kiss him for his carefully cultured social media presence.
There are just enough cute photos of the couple on instagram and twitter that journalists are kept at a distance and rumors of romantic unrest are short lived.
It’s something Ignis didn’t think much about until it was nearly gone. With the new additions to their lives Prompto’s not been posting anything, and the quiet has lasted long enough that a few articles about “Trouble for Prince Charming?” have surfaced.
Today is also, in part, to kill those.
Another figure breaks away, like Ignis hasn’t seen him, and tries to nonchalantly push open the door into the hallway that leads to Noctis and Prompto’s private rooms.
Gladio pats Ignis’ shoulder and makes a beeline for the guy even as the advisor takes a deep breath, readying himself to address the curious crowd.
The reporters fall quiet, camera’s holding steady as Ignis steps onto the small platform in the front of the room.
“I ask that you hold questions until the end of my statement. You are all aware that nearly three years ago Crown Prince Noctis Lucis Caelum chose to marry his long time best friend, Prince Consort Prompto Argentum. There were many questions raised at the time, most of which have been since lain to rest. The biggest question that was asked however, has remained a concern for citizens of Lucis concerned for the future as well as those within the palace walls. I’d like to make it clear to you all now that the couple has chosen to go about answering this question in their own way. The question of heirs to a throne, inevitable when both rulers to-be are males, has come to its resolution. Four months ago the Crown Prince and his husband, after examining their options, made the decision to adopt a pair of four month old twins. The boy and girl are healthy and adjusting well to life here. We are opening up a three hour time slot today for photographs of the family, asking that you be respectful of the nature of infants and a certain level of privacy. Any and all questions should be directed to either myself or another staff member, baring simple questions about day to day routine. I will take some of those questions now.” While Ignis spoke the room had been filled with attentive scribbling as notes were taken, questions jotted down. In the second after his last word, a collective breath was taken, and then there were hands everywhere, several voices vying for his attention.
“Yes, you.”
“Cynthia, from the Duscaen Journal, what do twins mean for the order of succession? Will the male assume immediate heir status?”
Ignis smiled, “It remains to be seen, I believe we need to gauge the children’s personal aptitudes as they grow as well as take into account their preferences.”
He selected another raised hand, an unfamiliar shock of green hair.
“Andromeda Publishing,Why now? Does Prince Noctis expect to take the throne soon? Is the stress negatively affecting his relationship with the Prince Consort?”
Ignis resisted the urge to roll his eyes, “The King is perfectly healthy and Prince Noctis has no intention of requesting his father abdicate anytime soon. It was intially planned to be a mere consideration but the couple found children they were very enamored with and decided it was a good time to bring them into their lives. They are very happy together and enjoying this new step.”
A familiar voice cut across the rising questions, ranging from names to almost offensive queries about if the children were really Noctis’ and he’d cheated on Prompto or vice versa.
“Ay, Ignis! Ahre they cute at least?”
Ignis never thought he’d be grateful to hear that ridiculous accent, but considering it was helping turn an ugly tide...
“Dino, I have study photos of past rulers over every decade and I would say they surpass Prince Noctis himself. They are charming.”
“Well then let’s seeum!”
Nyx touched his earpiece, having returned as honorary guard to the new little Prince and Princess for the week, he was overseeing the transition from press room to photo shoot. Lunafreya was seated with Noctis while Prompto took some pictures of his own and Nyx felt himself smiling at the sight.
Noctis was dressed perfectly in all black, his outfit relaxed for royalty with a simple silver trimmed jacket, the Lucian crest scrolling down one arm, and perfectly pressed slacks. Prompto was wearing black as well, his trimmed in gold and a bit more elaborate with bands crossing his chest and connecting to his waistfastening on his floor length jacket. The flared cut should’ve looked silly but on Prompto it just looked elegant. The Lucian crest was picked out in gold on the back and he had paired it with slacks and his combat boots. Their children were dressed in matching outfits, a tiny black shirt and shorts for Azreal, and a little black dress on Illyria, a faint chocobo pattern in gold at the edges of each. Nyx had the feeling neither child owned anything else so muted.
Lunafreya was holding the boy on her knee as he watched Prompto move around, smiling a little when his father did. She was a gem too Nyx, in her own silver and white tea dress, the light chocobo pattern present at the hemline of her skirt a subtle nod to her close relationship with the line of Lucis. Nyx himself had his old Kingsglaive uniform on, modified to include the crest of Tenebrae on the arms. Together, they were more than photo ready and he told Ignis as much on the com. The advisors voice came over the line a moment later, “Better tell them to take their places.” The shoot went well, with Dino being invited to stay a few minutes extra to take a few more relaxed shots of the group since he had been so helpful keeping things moving. As a thank you he sent them a photo book that evening as Noctis was putting the children down for the night. The photos were perfect and as he looked them over, Prompto decided he might have to pay Dino for a framed print of the one that he was planning on using as a full color spread. Noctis and Prompto were smiling at each other, caught in a moment of their own, their children cuddled between them looking adorable as they examined a stuffed Cactaur Dino had brought as a surprise (to the jealous glares of other reporters) and Lunafreya and Nyx standing behind the couch they were seated on, looking down at them fondly. Ignis and Gladio visible at either end of the couch, calm, steady book-ends. Prompto felt a warm glow in himself. Family. His family. He flipped to the next photo they’d been sent and laughed. Regis, his eyes glinting as he’d managed to stop in for a few shots,his lap full of grandchild and Noctis leaning over the couch looking chagrined at whatever ridiculous joke he’d been told. He closed the book and set it on the small dresser, turning to help Noctis. Illyria smacked her lips at him, babbling happily and he caught her little hand, kissing it as Noctis wiggled her toes, making her squirm and smile, a little laugh leaving her. Azreal pushed himself up, reaching for Noctis hand and promptly attempting to eat his fingers, making his parent’s laugh. They’d swapped the separate cribs for a larger sleeping bed, still with high sides, and so far the two little ones had been happy with the change. “Maaaaaa” Azreal told them, making Illyria follow it up with her thoughts, “Beh, mm.” Prompto laughed again, “Sounds like you two will be giving interviews of your own soon.” Noctis rolled his eyes and nudged his husband, “They’re already trending all over the place... #CuterthanNoct and #PromsFreckledDarlings have a disgusting number of hits just from a few pictures.” Prompto shrugged and looked at the little ones curling together sleepily. “You’re just jealous.” “Jealous they’ve been getting all your attention maybe.” Prompto turned to his husband, prepared to say something snarky, but Noctis’ hand on his cheek, soft and warm, stopped him. “They’ll probably sleep pretty hard tonight...they had a long day.” Noctis smiled, leaning in for a kiss. Prompto tilted his chin, eyes closing as he sighed a little, only to stumble and open them to the sight of blue shards in the air and, conscious of his sleeping children, tore off after Noctis. In the hallway he heard the other man yell, “I call first shower!” He rolled his eyes, “Or we could just take a bath you dork!”
This is a list of some of my FFXV fics—the ones I’m most proud of! The aftermath of Pitioss Pairings: Ignoct, Promptio 4 chapters, complete Summary: Noctis is in Pitioss for several days. When he finally stumbles out, he is visibly shaken by the disorientation and darkness of Pitioss. But with friends like Gladio, Prompto, and Ignis, he'll recover soon enough. (This one falls under one of the stories I’m most proud of, and I’m overwhelmed that other people liked it so much. That made me happy!) The Illustrious Master Izunia Pairings: …I admit it, this one could end up Dino/Prompto 7 chapters posted out of unknown number, WIP Summary: Prompto scores an apprenticeship under Gralea’s most famous inventor, Ardyn Izunia. But most of what he finds out as the days pass is that the laboratory holds secrets and locked doors, all barring him from progress.
(Admittedly I’m quite proud of this fic. It’s been a blast to write, and even if it isn’t finished, I think what I have so far is exciting!)
Here we are together Pairings: Ignoct, Promptio oneshot, complete Summary: Ignis wonders how a blind man and a ghost can raise a child together. He doesn't think it's possible, but they manage to do it.
(or as I like to call it: ghost!dad!ignoct that was supposed to be cute and full of puns and shenanigans but decided while I was writing it to be terribly angsty.) If you see glowing eyes in the dark, RUN Pairings: Ignoct, Promptio, Lunyx + CindyLu 7 chapters out of unknown number, WIP Summary: Two vehicles, eight friends, and a week at Vesperpool National Park. The great outdoors, with fishing and cabins and hiking - what could go wrong? Well, for the guys' cabin? Everything.
(I thought this one would be more comedy than horror, especially since I’ve been laughing as I write it, but I’m also a horror fan so take that with a grain of salt.)
Refinement Pairing: Highspecs oneshot, complete Summary: Every time Aranea visits Ignis, he gets better and better at knowing what she likes. It’s enough to make her keep coming back for more. (This one is shameless sweet smut.)
No one to dry your eyes at midnight Pairings: Ignoct, Promptio (slow burn for both) 10 chapters posted out of approximately 15, WIP Summary: There is no warm body beside him, no sting in his ass that will force the sound out of his throat and into the room. He doesn’t know if that’s what he wants, because it is something he has never had. But he likes the idea of it. (This will have a sequel that I’ve definitely not started writing, nope, not me!)
The mussed advisor Pairing: Ignoct oneshot, complete Summary: Must the prince choose such an inconvenient time to send Ignis photos of various states of undress? (Consider this one a companion to ‘no one to dry your eyes at midnight’ – takes place when they’re already an established pair and more comfortable with each other. It’s all about the flustered Ignis and some sex that results from that~)
How far you’ve come Pairing: Promptio oneshot, complete Summary: Some of Prompto's old photos are more than just cats and dogs around Insomnia. There's one of him, one that he didn't want Gladio to see. (Not much to say on this except that I wanted to write something sweet with supportive Gladio!) Rolling Blackout Pairing: Promptio oneshot, complete Summary: Prompto is already moody before the power goes out, and it's even worse because someone forgot the candles.
Navigating Forward Pairing: none oneshot, complete Summary: Gladio didn't need to ask about Clarus because he didn't know; he needed to ask so he could move forward. Alternatively: what I wish Gladio's DLC had included.
Marker Mayhem Pairing: none oneshot, complete Summary: Most kids will draw on walls. Noctis, however, chooses a historic painting, and Ignis must come up with a solution to cover up his mistake. Based on a conversation toward the last stretch of the game. You can also find photo/screenshot inspired drabbles under the tag: Photo Fantasy Prompts
I also have a ton of stuff for ignoct week that will be added next week, I’m mapping out a retelling that includes Cor and Iris joining the guys on their road trip, and I have another story that involves the guys having a close bond from birth and being connected (which was kind of inspired by Fruits Basket). Edit: Now that ignoct week has passed, here are some additional stories I favor, out of all the ones I wrote. Travelers of the Sky Pairings: Ignoct, Promptio, Crowna 7 out of unknown number of chapters, WIP (I’m working on chapter 7, so I have a lot written) Summary: When Noctis stows away on the airship Agarte, he expects to travel across oceans and among the stars and escape his royal obligations. It turns out his princely duties follow him no matter how far he runs, but it becomes easier to navigate them when you have the support of an entire crew. a heart that beats like wings Pairing: Ignoct oneshot, complete Summary: Every prince or princess born is given a dragon when they are ten. A decade after Noctis receives his dragon, he flies to her homeland of Tenebrae. There he meets a bespectacled man in the palace gardens he doesn’t want to return home without. songs that died centuries ago Pairing: Ignoct oneshot, complete Summary: Noctis and Ignis recognized each other when they met as children. No matter how many lifetimes they pass through, they always find one another.
My petty prince
Summary: Noct's gets jealous of a baby chocobo cause his own chocobo boy isn't paying attention to him so he calls it fried chicken and proceeds to be petty gladio is enjoying this and ignis is being ignis Notes: this a random idea i just came up with and i want fluff right now hahahaah ==================================== "your being petty" Noct's inner brain laughed at him as he watched his bestfriend dote on a baby chocobo in wiz's chocobo post. "shut up! i am not being petty" he cursed his inner brain and he was sure it was laughing harder at him now. Noctis must be going crazy that he even talks to himself. Inner Noctis snorted at him inside his brain "whatever you say man! but pffttt hahahaha I've never known that we'd stoop down this low that we'd get jealous of a baby chocobo! A FUCKING BABY CHOCOBO!!! HAHAHAHAHHA" Inner Noct continued to mock him as he watched with a scowl on how the baby chocobo was getting all of Prompto's attention. "ohhhh myyy goshhhh!! you're the cutest thing I've ever seen! Yes you are! Yes you are! Papa Prompto will take good care of you today!" the gunman chooed at the baby chick which made said chick give a happy chirp at what the human was saying. The prince gave a growl and looked to the side as his cute friend continued to choo, nuzzle and kiss the baby chocobo. "Lucky fucking fried chicken, enjoy it while you can! Cause it ain't gonna last and I'll be taking Prompto back!" inner Noct was dying of laughter at this point because of the prince's childishness. As the prince was scheming, Ignis and Gladio pops up from who knows where and sat at the other chairs around Noct's table. "well he seem to be enjoying our stay here" Ignis adjusted his glasses with a smile as he looked at their chocobo obsessed friend. "enjoying it is the understatement of the day iggy.... at least he's enjoying it.... unlike some moody prince I know" Gladio smirked as the prince flipped him off. The shield and advisor started to discuss a book they both find interesting leaving our poor jealous prince to sulk in his own again. "Awww your so adorableeeeeee!!! Come here let's take a picture of you!" Prompto gushed at his baby chocobo and proceeded to take pictures of it. First it was only shots of the chocobo being adorable on it's own but soon he took pictures of him with the baby chick instead. Some pictures were blurry because of the chick moving around a lot. But some were pretty decent and adorable to boot. There was a picture were the chick was trying to eat Prompto's hair with gunman laughing about it. Or another one where the freckled boy was kissing the chocobo's head while it snuggled up on Prom's neck. Any person who would have seen the scene would melt and choo at them at how both boy and bird are being adorable together. Any person except the prince that was getting moodier by the minute. "that should be me prompto's kissing! that should be me he's taking a picture of! that should be me snuggling to him like that! that should-" "Awwwww your the cutest thing alive! I love you the most!!" At what the gunman said something in Noct finally snapped. "IT SHOULD BE ME THAT PROMPTO'S SAYING I LOVE YOU TO!!!!" The petty prince suddenly stood up startling his older friends and he went to Prompto's table standing opposite his gunman. His friend immediately noticed him and beamed up at him. "Noct! Noct! look! have you seen my baby?! Ain't he the cutest thing!" Sunshine boy boasted about his chick to the prince not noticing that the prince was glaring at the baby chocobo. Noctis just stood there like an idiot while Prompto started feeding the baby some greens he bought just for this day. "look at that! he's not even acknowledging us because all of his attetion is on that fat overgrown chick" inner Noctis sneered as the prince clenched his fist. "what the fuck is he doing..... " gladio asked Iggy as they were both watching their prince in amusement. "I think he's jealous of the baby chocobo getting all of our poor innocent Prompto's attention." the advisor replied amused and exasperated with his prince. Noctis' blood boiled at the scene playing before his eyes. Prompto was kissing the chick yet again and it seems the baby chocobo is enjoying it and returning the affection with glee. When Prompto's lips neared its head the chick suddenly titled it and the freckled boy kissed the tip of its birdy beak. "OH THAT IS IT!! IT'S WAR NOW FRIED CHICKEN!!!!!!!" Prompto didn't notice that the prince was extending his arms to reach the chocobo, too busy gushing about that his baby just kissed him. "Oh shiva!!! That's the cutest thing I've ever experienced!!! Bet I was your first kiss- HEY NOCT WHAT THE FUCK MAN GIVE MY BABY CHOCOBO BACK!!!" but it was too late and Noct got the confused chick in his arm and was heading for his table from before. When he reached his destination he disposed the baby chocobo in Ignis' lap and when back to Prompto's side. He can hear the the chick chirping angrily at him for seperating it from the blond haired boy's loving arms. "Ha! serves you right for taking what's supposed to be mine!" he said in triumph in his mind and he can hear inner Noctis dying from laughter in some corner of his brain. His chocobo boy was now throwing a hissy fit at him but he ignored the angry jabs and carelessly climbed into the blond's lap. "Like what the fuck man! Why would you do that! I was having the time of my li- Hey!!" Well that got Prompto to shut up as the prince enclosed his body in a hug and snuzzled his face in the gunman's neck. "No-Noct? what's with you???" the prince didn't say anything and continued to snuzzled his face on Prompto's neck. This cause the freckled boy to blush with embarrassment but humored his prince nonetheless. He rubbed circles in the prince's back and they stayed like that for a while. Prompto can hear his baby chick crying for him but he can't do anything while Noct was acting like a moody and clingy cat. He heard his prince mumble something but he didn't understand it. "what was that noct? I can't really understand you if you talk like that.. " "i said you weren't paying attention to me...... " "what? speak up bud I still can't understand you" Prompto repeated irritated because Noct was still mumbling. "I SAID I YOU WEREN'T PAYING ATTENTION TO ME SO I GOT JEALOUS OF THAT FREAKING BABY CHOCOBO" Noct shouted angrily but regretted it because he can see Gladio and Ignis holding their laughter in and Prompto staring at him with a surprised look. "Thank the six that they we're the only people around here." face red from embarrassment he hid his face on Prom's shoulder and tighten his arms around him. Getting out of his initial shock from his bestfriend's outburst, the freckled boy's brain processed the prince's declaration and proceeded to laugh his ass off. "BWAHAHAHAHA OH MY GOD NOCT HAHAHA YOU GOT JEALOUS OF A BABY CHOCOBO HAHAHAHA OH MY-I CAN'T BELI-THAT YOU- THE CHOCOBO- YOU HAHAHAHAHHA" Prompto can't even finish his thoughts without laughing out loud on how childish his prince was acting. The petty prince gave a huff and explained himself just to save what dignity he has left. "Shut up Prom! we've been here for hours and you didn't even looked at me or talked to me since you got that blasted bird and I was feeling.... left out..... you even said you love it the most.... " Noct turned red and made himself smaller in Prompto's hold. His laughter dying to small giggles Prompto hugged his boyfriend tighter and played with his hair, running his fingers at the raven locks that smelled of cheap hotel shampoo. "oh noct... what am I gonna do with you... you know you're the only one I love the most and nothing can replace you" the gunman kissed his boyfriend's head as Noct went to look at him. They stared into each other's eyes and Prompto gave a sweet smile and kissed his childish prince. The kiss lasted for some while, it was just a sweet kiss. A touch of lips on lips nothing more. When it ended they both smiled with Noctis retreating to his previous position with his head on Prom's shoulder. "Well.... it's true that I love you the most but..... baby chocobo's are dangerously close to your place....." "PROMPTO!!!!!" The freckled boy continued to tease his prince with said prince threatening every chocobo's existence into damnation. As the disgustingly cute couple continued to playfully argue with each other, the older members of their party watch them from the side letting them have their moment. "Well that was extremely sweet I think I can barf sugar now" chuckled the muscle man of the group as he turned to his companion. "They are Noctis and Prompto... you know how they are." Ignis replied still watching the couple with a smile while petting the baby chocobo in his lap. Oh wait...... the baby is still in his lap! and it was still huffing and puffing from being removed from its human and never being put back. "Ummmm Gladiolus......" Gladio looked at Ignis and followed his gaze to the cute baby bird chirping angrily. The big man laughed and wiped the invisible tears that was gathering in his eyes. "I think it had grown quite attached to our gunman and wants to be with him again.... " still laughing Gladio petted the chubby bird which cause it to headbutt his hand wanting Prompto's hand instead. "What are we going to do with it?" the advisor asked the shield, raising a perfect eyebrow at the mischievous smirk that the shield was giving him. "we'll be keeping it for a while Iggy! think about it! it makes Prompto happy that will cause Noct to be unhappy because he's being beaten again. And an irritated Noct makes as both happy because we get to see him suffer!" Gladiolus declared with an evil grin towards the advisor. "You do have a point there.... " "I do have a point Iggy! It's a win-win situation for all of us.... well except for Noct but who cares!" Gladio roared with laughter and Ignis agreed with him with a mischievous smile of his own. "Well then little fella, welcome aboard" Ignis petted the irritated bird, its anger increasing as the seconds passed away from his human. "Oh this is gonna be funnnnnnn" drawled Gladio as he took a glance at the couple that was busy inside their own little world. "Gonna be fun indeed"
title: build a home in me (i’ll give you a place to hide) pairing/characters: promptis if u tilt ur head rated: g summary: Sometimes Noctis just wants a place to hide from the endless cacophony that is being the next in line for the Lucian throne. Prompto doesn't have much to offer, but he does his best. alternatively, how prompto accidentally became a willing accomplice to noctis' self-kidnapping from all the pressure that is his life.
i can’t believe i’m back with more ffxv fanfiction but here you go, something soft because friendship is really important to me and i’m a sucker for hurt/comfort, also honestly let noctis rest already, i will Fight
>ao3 link <
Prompto waves goodbye to the other members of the photography club, humming to himself as he turns to head home. But when he turns the corner, he finds a familiar figure leaning against the wall.
“Noct! You’re still here?”
Noctis glances up at him. “Hey, Prompto. You done with club?”
“Yup! You wanna go somewhere?”
“Can we go to your place?” Noctis is already walking down the stairs, expecting Prompto to follow.
Prompto blinks at his friend’s back. They usually go over to Noctis’ apartment, since it’s closer and Noctis has all of the latest consoles and also just. Ignis’ cooking. But Prompto doesn’t voice his questions out loud. Instead, he bounds after Noctis. “Sure! Is your ‘guard giving us a ride?”
Noctis’ shoulders immediately go up. “Let’s take the train,” he says shortly.
Prompto bites his lip. Something is definitely bothering Noctis. But Prompto knows his friend, and he knows that when Noctis is moody, he prefers to stew in silence until he’s ready to confront his problems. And that’s fine, but right now, Noctis is actively seeking his company. So Prompto vows to not screw it up.
On the train, he lets Noctis lean on his shoulder. In his school uniform, Noctis doesn’t really stand out against the crowd unless he’s standing at full attention. There’s that air of royal grace one just can’t hide, but in their three or so years of high school, Noctis has mastered the art of slouching like an angsty teenager, and no one looks at them twice.
Noctis isn’t a very tactile person, something Prompto has always chalked up to his royal upbringing and properness that Ignis is always talking about. Sometimes, mostly when it’s just the two of them, Noctis will let Prompto sit close, close enough their body heat mingles and the barely-there barrier between Prince Noctis and his subjects will disappear completely. So Noctis leaning on Prompto like this in a public space is something rare. He must be really tired, Prompto thinks, to allow himself to let his guard down like this. Vulnerable.
When Prompto lets them into his foster parents’ house, Noctis immediately makes a beeline for the couch. Prompto only watches in dismay. Noctis has always complained about how uncomfortable that couch is, despite the fact that he’s only visited a handful of times. Prompto agrees, seeing as the couch is rarely used and mostly just there to fit into the neat interior design that his parents seem to like so much, even though they don’t come back often enough to appreciate it.
Prompto hovers behind the couch. “Oh, hey, Noct,” he says brightly, “What do you want for dinner? The fridge isn’t really stocked, since I mostly eat at your place and Ignis seems to have spoiled me—” He notices how Noctis stiffens at the name of his advisor, so Prompto talks faster. “—We could get takeout from that fast-food place you like? The one with the meat-atarian burgers? Oh, but they don’t do deliveries—But it’s just down the block, I can run out and get them, it’ll be like fifteen minutes—”
“No!” Noctis sits up, but quickly averts his gaze. “Just. Stay here. Please.”
“O-okay.” Prompto pulls at his bottom lip. “Uh. There’s probably? Some ramen leftover in the cupboards from last time I went shopping? How about some good old ramen, yeah?”
Noctis nods, flopping back onto the couch. Prompto sighs to himself. He can read Noctis like a comic book but sometimes it’s a little hard understanding what exactly the problem is when it feels like the whole universe is out against his best friend. Shaking his head, Prompto turns to hunt down some edible food.
There are some packages of ramen left, though the due date is closer than he thought. He decides to actually cook them instead of just pouring hot water. He’s no Ignis in the kitchen, but he’s had enough practice living alone that he won’t set off the fire alarm. Probably. At some point, Noctis even wanders over to help, though Prompto suspects it’s mostly to make sure only minimal spinach goes into the ramen.
They opt to settle on the floor instead of the lumpy couch. The tv is on, some cartoon about an exiled lion that makes friends with wild animals and journeys back to reclaim his rightful throne. Something about the show turns Prompto’s stomach, but when he glances over at Noctis, he finds his friend isn’t even paying attention.
Noctis’ phone pings again like it has been for the better part of the last hour, and Prompto watches as Noctis scowls, brows knit and mouth tight, eyes dark under his bangs. He shuts down the phone and then throws it across the table. They both stare after it as it falls out of sight and lands with a soft thump on the floor.
“Noct? That sounded important...”
Noctis sighs. “I just... don’t want to deal with all that right now. I don’t—I don’t want to be Noctis Lucis Caelum right now, okay? Just for one night, I... I don’t want anything to do with the throne.”
Prompto stays quiet. He looks at Noctis as his friend leans his head back against the couch cushion, eyes closed and looking so weary, so miserable, so much older than he should be.
“Okay,” says Prompto, “then... you can just be Noctis, Prompto’s best friend, right?”
When Noctis finally meets his gaze, there’s a small smile ghosting his lips.
Prompto grins back.
He waits until he hears the shower running before pulling his phone from his pocket. It was vibrating nonstop throughout their dinner, so much so that Prompto is half-afraid there will be a hole in his favourite pair of jeans.
[6:38 pm] [from: iggy] Prompto, is Noctis with you?
[7:03 pm] [from: iggy] Prompto, Noctis is ignoring my calls and neither Gladio nor I have any idea where he is. Please respond.
[7:15 pm] [from: iggy] Prompto, you won’t be in trouble, but I need to know where Noctis is. Please respond.
[7:20 pm] [from: behemoth] hey is noct w u if he is tell him 2 text iggy or sth
[7:27 pm] [from: iggy] Noctis refused a ride today, said he was ‘hanging out’ with you. Please respond.
[7:29 pm] [from: iggy] Neither of you are responding and I am worried.
[7:32 pm] [from: iggy] Please do not make me have to call the Crownsguard.
[7:40 pm] [from: behemoth] iggys abt 2 have aneurysm tell noct if he doesnt respond in 10mins ill kick his ass after iggy kills him
Prompto winces. He does not want the Crownsguard to come knocking down his door. It’s one thing going through a full security check the first few times he visited Noctis’ apartment. He doesn’t need his neighbours asking why he’s so closely associated with the Prince.
Sparing a quick glance down the hall where the bathroom is, he texts back as fast as he can.
[7:58 pm] [to: iggy] im sorry!!!!! noct IS here we’re @ my place pls dont send the guards after me
[7:59 pm] [from: iggy] Why isn’t Noctis answering my calls.
[8:00 pm] [to: iggy] he turned his phone off he’s kind of;; upset
[8:02 pm] [from: iggy] That is no reason to worry his guardians. I will come collect him.
[8:03 pm] [to: iggy] i dont think thats a good idea ignis i think noct just needs some space let him sleep over? i promise nothing will happen to him
[8:05 pm] [from: iggy] That’s not your decision to make, Prompto. Our priority is the Prince’s safety.
[8:06 pm] [to: iggy] i know but i think hes rlly stressed about the whole prince thing please ignis?
Prompto chews on his bottom lip, looking from his phone to the empty hallway. He understands Ignis’ concern, but he’s also Noctis’ best friend. He’d risk being arrested for attempted kidnapping of the Crown Prince if it meant being able to give Noctis some peace of mind.
He just wants to give Noct a safe space to stay when he needs it. And right now, he needs it more than ever.
His phone buzzes again, and he looks back down apprehensively.
[8:12 pm] [from: iggy] Fine. I will have his security detail set up surveillance of your place though.
[8:13 pm] [to: iggy] thanks ignis!! he’ll be back before u know it
[8:14 pm] [from: iggy] Not too soon, then.
Noctis refuses to move from the bed. He’s completely camped out, knees tucked in and blanket wrapped securely around his body, only the top of his head peeking out from his makeshift nest.
“I had to tell them,” Prompto says again. He’s sitting on the edge of the bed, but Noctis has been ignoring him ever since Prompto told him about the texts. “They’re just doing their job.”
The Noctis-shaped lump huffs crossly, before shuffling against the wall. Except Prompto’s comforter is patterned with dancing chocobos, so instead of making Prompto feel guilty, he just feels amused. He tries his best to stop smiling.
“Noooooct,” he says, climbing up onto the bed. “Come ooon, it’s rude to ignore your host when he’s so graciously offered up his humble abode for you to hide out in.”
“You’re not gracious at all,” is Noctis’ muffled reply.
“You wound me.”
“Good.”
Prompto tugs at his wristband absentmindedly as he muses what to do next. It’d be kind of a waste if Noctis just spent the entire time pouting. But there’s really nothing to do in this house. He’s rarely here after all, spending most of his time either at Noctis’ place or at the arcade or at his part-time job or frolicking about taking photographs or just anywhere but here, really.
“Hey, Noct.” Prompto scoots back until he’s leaning against the wall, too. “Let’s plays a game.”
“... What game?”
“Uh... Question and Answer?”
That gets a reaction out of Noctis. His face pokes through the top of the blankets, and he frowns at Prompto. “That’s not a game, Prompto. That’s an interrogation.”
“Humour me for a sec, here, bro.” Chewing on his lip thoughtfully, Prompto says, “What would you name your pet chocobo, if you had a pet chocobo?”
“Of course you’d ask about chocobos.”
“Come on, don’t tell me you never thought about having a pet chocobo!”
Noctis rolls his eyes. But his entire head has emerged from the blanket now. “Prompto,” he says.
“Yeah?”
“I mean, I’d name it Prompto.”
Prompto squints. “I can’t tell if you’re being sweet or just being an ass.”
His friend only smirks back at him. “What would you name yours then?”
“Stella! Or Cherry. Or Bea! Or Liv! Or Nora!”
“Any particular reason why those are all girl names, Prompto? Hm?”
It takes him a moment to understand what Noctis is getting at. Prompto’s face heats up. He swats at his friend, receiving a satisfying grunt of pain. “Sh-Shut up, dude! At least I didn’t name it after my best friend!”
“That would be great disrespect,” Noctis sniffs, rubbing his shoulder, “naming an animal after your royal prince.”
“Uh-uh! You’re not a prince anymore, remember? Tonight you’re just plain ole Noctis, a lazy nerd who sleeps like a cat and for some reason has a personal vendetta against beans.”
As expected, Noctis scrunches his face at the mention of his most hated vegetable. “Beans are gross, Prompto. Don’t make me vomit on your bed.”
“Okay, okay, fine. Next question: what kind of animal would you be?”
“You just said I was a cat.”
“What kind of animal do you think I would be, then?”
“That’s easy,” Noctis says, and there’s that crooked grin of his, and that playful glint in those blue eyes as they look at Prompto from behind those dark bangs. A strand of his hair is sticking up from being under the blanket for so long. “A chocobo.”
“That was easy,” Prompto agrees, grinning back. “Hmm... If you could go anywhere in Eos, where would you want to go?”
“Anywhere but here,” Noctis says right away. But then he sighs, and leans his head back until he knocks against the wall. “I think... Galdin Quay, maybe. I heard the fishing’s good there.”
Prompto hums. “You do love fishing.”
“What about you?”
There’s a pause as Prompto considers. He didn’t really have an answer despite asking the question. He’s never really gone anywhere. Noctis hasn’t either, but he’s the Prince, whether he likes it or not, and unfortunately that means being watched like a hawk and being confined to certain areas of Insomnia. Prompto just never had the chance to go anywhere. It’s not like his parents would take him. And anything else before coming to this house doesn’t count, because he can’t remember.
“I don’t know,” he says honestly. “I guess I’m fine with anywhere, as long as it’s with you, Noct.”
It’s not until the words are out of his mouth and in between them that Prompto realizes what he’s just said. But it’s too late. His eyes widen, and he bites his lip forcefully, mentally cursing himself. That kind of sappy novel bullshit is fine when they’re clearly teasing, but this conversation has been quiet, almost intimate. It’s not like the words are a lie, because they’re not. Prompto is pretty sure he’d go to the ends of Eos for Noctis, he’d probably maybe most certainly die for Noctis, not because Noctis is his Prince but because Noctis is probably definitely the most important person in his life, ever.
Prompto doesn’t want to push away the only real friend he has with his stupid clinginess.
When he finally risks a glance over at Noctis, he finds the other boy staring down at his lap, lips pressed tight like he wants to say something but isn’t really sure what. And if Prompto’s eyes aren’t deceiving him, there’s a slight tinge of pink dusting Noctis’ cheeks.
Prompto doesn’t know what this means. He stays quiet.
“It’d be nice,” Noctis says eventually, voice low and slow, “if we could go explore the world some day, see what’s there outside the wall. Insomnia’s nice and all but... sometimes I feel like there are so many things out there we’re missing out on, you know? So if maybe... One day, before I have to ascend the throne or whatever, I’d like to travel a bit. It’d be cool if you could come with.”
Warmth swells in his chest. Prompto smiles. “Are you asking me to go on a road trip with you, Noct?”
“Sure.” Noctis shrugs. “Gladio and Specs will probably have to come with, but it’d be something, wouldn’t it? And besides,” Noct tilts a smile at him, “it wouldn’t be a true road trip without our very own photographer, would it?”
Prompto all but launches himself onto his best friend. They tumble down in a heap, but Noctis doesn’t pull away. In fact, if Prompto’s not imagining it, Noctis’ arms holds him closer.
“I’d be honoured,” Prompto says into Noctis’ shirt. It’s one of his, an old one so it hangs off Noctis’ slightly fuller frame oddly, but Prompto thinks the other boy wears it better than he ever did. It smells a little like himself and something that is entirely Noctis.
It smells like home.
“Good,” Noctis replies, one hand coming up into Prompto’s hair. “Because it wouldn’t be the same without you.”
Prompto’s glad his face is currently buried against his best friend’s chest, because he doesn’t know what his expression is doing right now, only that it’s embarrassing.
He’s a lucky, lucky bastard. One of the Astrals must have been looking out for him because even if he can’t remember where he came from or why his nightmares are tinged with red and steel and fading screams, even if there’s an ugly mark etched into his wrist that never allows him to forget that he doesn’t deserve any of this, even if some mornings he can’t face his own reflection and his skin itches and itches because he’s wrong and everyone can tell, even if the house he returns to every night has always been empty and cold and never a home, even if everyone has always looked at him funny because he has the nerve to hang around the Prince like he belongs—
Prompto wouldn’t change a single thing if it meant all of that led up to this moment right here, being able to sink into the warmth of his best friend. Noctis is the best thing that’s ever happened to him. It’s incredibly selfish of him, but Prompto would do anything to be able to remain by Noctis’ side.
They fall into a comfortable, familiar sort of silence. Prompto’s still sprawled over Noctis, but Noctis doesn’t say anything, so Prompto doesn’t either. Their hugs never lasted this long before, but they’re no stranger to drifting off in the same space after a hearty round of video games. And if Prompto is being honest, having someone else’s body heat next to his works better than any sleeping pill.
When his thoughts start to float off in strangely abstract tangents, he taps at Noctis’ side. “Noct,” he says, “I should turn off the lights before we fall asleep for real.”
“Nnnngh,” Noctis says back. He doesn’t seem to want to let go.
“Okay, fine, but at least let me—” Prompto wiggles until Noctis, groaning loudly, loosens his hold enough for him to reach over for one of his many stuffed moogles. He’s now half on his back, with Noctis’ arms wrapped around him like some sort of koala, and even if he turns his head it’s still an awkward angle. Still, he raises his arm, squinting across his room at the wall next to the door. He takes his aim, pulls back, and then releases.
The moogle hits the light switch, and then they’re both drenched in darkness.
“Nice shot,” Noctis murmurs above his head.
“Of course,” Prompto says, grinning proudly.
He rolls back over, trying to find a more comfortable position to lie in so he doesn’t wake up with a pulled muscle or something. Noctis adjusts his arms to accommodate more of his weight. Soon, they’re both lying on their sides, Prompto’s head tucked under Noctis’ chin, the chocobo blanket tossed over the both of them, legs tangled together and somehow none of their long awkward limbs trailing off the edge of the bed. Noctis’ breathing ruffles Prompto’s hair slightly. He closes his eyes, concentrating on counting the steady rhythm. It’s warm, but comfortably so.
“Prompto,” he hears just as he was drifting off again. There’s a feeling of fingers gently running through his hair, and then a whisper, soft enough for only his ears to hear, “Thank you.”
Prompto’s eyelids are too heavy by now, but he can feel the edges of his mouth pull up. He presses closer, nose against his best friend’s collarbone, and dreams.
Prompto triumphantly hummed a catchy tune to celebrate our victory. I locked eyes with him, and the light chuckle he let out next made me smile a tiny bit.
We were done taking on the pests that Cindy asked us to take care of. In this last fight, I took a look at everyone’s fighting abilities instead of focusing on my own to prove myself.
Noctis was surprisingly very skilled, and his warp strikes were neat. Prompto mainly used guns and had a really good aim, even if I hadn’t gotten used to the sound of gunfire around me and I kept getting startled because of it.
I was familiar already with Ignis and Gladiolus’ styles, so I didn’t take much notice of them, really. Even though it was still impressive and skilled nonetheless.
“Sounds like you’re having fun” Gladio humored the bubbly boy, who had just finished humming.
“Everyone alright?” Ignis looked over his shoulder to check on us.
“Yup” Noctis replied calmly, and I nodded as well.
“It’s gotten dark, though” Prompto observed, looking up to the sky.
It was already of a dark blue color and stars were starting to appear, shining bright. It was beautiful to see them without any city light shadowing their glow.
“We should camp” Observed Gladiolus, stretching his arms after the battle.
“I agree” The tawny-haired man nodded his head.
“Yay, dinner!” Prompto jumped around, leading the march to get to a good camping spot.
“What’s in the menu today, Specs?” Noctis grinned in amusement, his eyes on the blond even if he was speaking to Ignis.
To be honest, the stress and activity of the day was starting to weight on me. It was the first time I would camp and I knew it wouldn’t be as comfortable as a bed, but I was so exhausted that I couldn’t wait to lie down nonetheless.
In fact, I began to zone out and I heard the conversation absently.
“I was thinking about cooking some rice balls”
“Do we have Cup Noodle?”
“We can’t live on ramen, Gladio”
“Who cares about food? I’m sleepy!”
“What a surprise, Noct”
“Guys, in here!” The only thing that took my attention was Prompto excitedly running toward us.
I stared at him, wondering where he got all that energy from. Was he not exhausted? Even Ignis and Gladiolus were obviously weary. Not to mention Prince Noctis, who wouldn’t stop yawning.
We dragged ourselves along as we followed the bubbly boy, making small talk to get over the long way up there in the small ledge that he had pointed us to.
I had the urge to rest a hand over Gladiolus or Ignis’ shoulder and lean my weight on them, as I was so sore and fatigued. But I held it back and lazily dragged my feet instead.
“I sure hope Cindy fixed the car” Prince Noctis mumbled, accompanying his words with yet another yawn.
I internally cursed him when I did the same, infected with the yawning.
“That’s right!” Prompto responded a bit further away. “Tomorrow we get to see her again!”
“Easy, lover boy” Gladiolus laughed, amused by his obvious crush on her.
“You have way too much energy” I piped up to back his comment up.
That directed his attention to me since I had been so quiet, his vibrant blue eyes falling over me. He nimbly moved to stay to my left and rested an elbow on my shoulder and began to chat with me.
“How are you, Alexandria?” It was almost smug, as though he knew what I would answer yet wanted to hear it.
“Tired and moody”
I supposed his intentions were to lighten the mood seeing how grumpy I was, but I couldn’t be bothered to go along with him. He gave up in the end, and neither did the rest try themselves.
My only goal was to get to our camping spot and sit down, rejoicing in the taste of Ignis’ delicious supper and resting.
Being so tired was new to me, as I wasn’t used to so much physical effort. The life of a royal advisor was quite uneventful and sedentary. So I didn’t even realize I could part take in their lively conversation until Ignis nudged me gently.
“Anything the matter?” His green eyes pierced me with interest.
“I just can’t wait to go to sleep” I rubbed my eyes, already feeling groggy.
”Little Alex is not a warrior like we are” Gladiolus teased me a little.
“Yep” I acknowledged, not bothering to say anything witty or interesting back.
To be quite honest, my brain could hardly even process what they were saying anymore.
“How did you like the first day with the entourage?” Prompto piped up.
“Wasn’t too bad” I smiled a little. “The company couldn’t be better”
“My thoughts exactly” Ignis agreed, standing up to gather the dishes.
“Dinner was delicious” I mumbled to let him know I appreciated it. “Thank you”
“My pleasure” He nodded to Prompto as well when the blond jumped to his feet and helped him.
“You’ll have to excuse me, but I don’t think I have the strength to help you clean up right now” I sighed, trying to keep my eyes open. “I will next time, I promise”
“No pressure, Alexandria”
“Isn’t she adorable when she’s sleepy?”
For a moment I didn’t even know who said it, until I felt Gladiolus playfully patting my back before he stood up as well. I absently glanced at Noctis, who was too busy playing some game on his phone.
I really wanted to say goodbye to them and get into the cozy and welcoming tent, but I didn’t even have the heart to stand up from my comfortable seat, even if it was just a folding chair. I promised myself that I would, I just needed to sit for a bit more, so I rested my jaw on my hand as I leaned my elbow on the arm of the chair.
The warm and bright fire was all the more cozy, and it almost lulled me to sleep.
“Hey!” Prompto cheerfully plopped down in the chair next to me, previously occupied by Ignis, startling me. “Wanna see the photos I took today?”
“You… took photos?” I asked him, looking at him out of utter shock. “I didn’t realize”
I did have a hazy image of him pulling out a camera and randomly shooting pictures while we were camping, but I was so out of it that I didn’t quite register it.
“Some of them were during our fights”
“Since when are you a photographer?”
“Since always, really” He shrugged, taking his camera out of his pocket.
He just turned the camera on and scooted his chair closer to mine in order to let me see the pictures that displayed in the screen.
The first photo was one of Prompto doing a peace sign with his fingers as he posed, all of us in the background while we fought the scorpions. He actually took a selfie during the battle. I couldn’t suppress an amused guffaw when I saw it.
“You nerd, you took a selfie?!” The words escaped from my mouth before I could stop them.
Ignis often said that when I got extremely tired it was almost as though I was intoxicated. I lost all my inhibitions and spoke openly, without giving it a second thought or stopping to see if what I was about to say was fitting.
I feared he took them the wrong way, that he didn’t realize the fond tone I used when calling him a ‘nerd’. But luckily, Prompto reacted by showing me one of the most genuine smiles I had ever seen. I could have sworn he blushed as well, but it was hard to tell under the dim light of the camp fire.
“What’s the next one?” I urged him, trying to forget about that silly moment.
Prompto hummed affirmatively and pressed the button to swipe to the next photo.
It was quite endearing, a selfie with the prince and the blond himself. One could hardly even say that Noctis was royalty – in that picture he seemed like a regular boy, having fun with his friend.
Briefly looking up at me, almost as though he asked for permission, he paused before actually pressing the button again.
A picture of Gladiolus and Ignis followed, the both of them posing to the camera. I snorted in laughter when I saw myself and Noctis in the background, glancing at the camera with funny faces because we thought we saw a flash of light.
I yawned in spite of myself, craving rest even if I was enjoying myself with Prompto and I didn’t really want to be rude and ask him to leave.
“Prompto” Ignis, eternally maternal, had my back. “Would you mind escorting the lady inside while we clean up?”
“No problem!” The blond easily saved his camera back and stood up.
I wanted to mimic him, but my body wouldn’t follow the order my brain was trying to send. Noticing this, Prompto chuckled and offered me a hand. I gladly took it and allowed him to pull me up.
“C’mon, you need to rest” He commented. “You look like you could fall asleep right here standing up”
My head fell on his shoulder at ease when he placed an arm around my waist and let me support myself on him. I mentally thanked him for that.
“You guys are spoiling me” I forced myself to say, just to avoid feeling so childish. It didn’t have the effect I desired, for it sounded cheesy.
Prompto paused as we came into the tent, focusing on helping me sit down on the ground, there where I had placed my sleeping bag.
“Need to take care of the only girl in the group” He sat on the ground, crossing his legs.
I couldn’t help but to give him a glare, feeling like he was underestimating me.
“N-Not that you need to be looked after, of course!” His friendly expression shifted into one of panic, his eyes open wide. “I-I didn’t mean that… All I was saying is… You obviously can hold your own, you’ve proven it but…”
“Prompto…” I smiled, realizing he had just used the wrong words to express himself.
“It’s just that one has to treat a girl nicely, right? I mean… I-Iggy would agree!”
I shook my head, still smiling, as I closed my eyes and lied down on my side.
“Stop freaking out” I reassured him, stirring until I found a comfortable position. “I got what you meant”
He was just trying to be helpful and chivalrous, which was quite endearing.
“G-good” Came his response.
I heard him muttering something right after, but I was already dozing off.
When I woke up, it was bright outside. It was delightful, extremely comfortable, warm and cozy. Until I opened my eyes and found myself alone in the tent.
Well, except for Noctis, who was sprawled out in the other corner. He was fast asleep, softly snoring and stirring every once in a while.
I rubbed my eyes to sober up and quietly headed to open the tent not to wake the royal one up. Not only it was plain rude to wake him without a reason, but I did not want to put up with his morning mood. Especially if his slumber was interrupted because of me.
I opened the zipper of my sleeping bag and threw the top off myself. It was then when I realized I was sweating because it was extremely warm inside there.
Wondering what the other three were up to, I stood up and exited the tent. There I found Ignis, Gladiolus and Prompto chatting over breakfast.
“Good morning, Alexandria” Ignis was the first one to notice me.
The other two turned to me in their seats, since I was behind them.
“Sleeping beauty is up” Gladiolus smirked, his amber eyes following me as I lazily plopped down in the chair next to him.
“Mornin’, buddy!” Prompto waved at me, making my day with a bright smile.
“Slept well, I hope?” Ignis was leaning against the table where we kept the ingredients and utensils, but he walked over to me and offered me some coffee.
I grinned at the sight of the delicious Ebony.
“You shouldn’t have let me sleep so much” I mumbled as I gladly accepted the mug, wondering in the delightful scent. “It’s late”
Absently looking up to the sky and taking note of the high position of the sun, I knew I overslept.
“You were exhausted” Ignis argued, calmly walking back to the spot next to the table.
“Don’t get used to it, though” Gladiolus mumbled, only to change his stern tone into a teasing one. As per usual. “But you looked so cute curled up in your sleeping bag… Last night you were all affectionate and adorable”
I fixed my eyes in my coffee mug, too mortified when I remembered what I did and said while I was so sleepy. Resting my head on Prompto’s shoulder and letting him walk me into the tent, calling him a ‘nerd’… Especially, I grimaced at the distant memory of hugging Ignis’ arm once he came to check on me during the night.
“Aw, she’s blushing” Prompto uttered lowly, probably to himself.
Gladiolus reluctantly stood up, fondly placing a big hand on my shoulder.
"Now that you're up, we should wake Prince Charmless up too"
I choked in my coffee at the loving term of endearment, mentally taking note of it to use it against him if necessary. Ignis was about to come over and check that I was okay, but stopped himself when he noticed I was smiling.
"Prince Charmless..." I repeated in amusement, watching Gladiolus as he went into the tent.
“When are we leaving, Iggy?” Prompto excitedly asked, broadly smiling as he bounced up in the spot. Was he always so lively and spry? It was quite impressive.
“As soon as Noct wakes up”
“It should take a while then”
“Where are we going?” I asked, taking a big sip of the exquisite Ebony.
The slightly bitter taste was delightful, as well as the warmth and the caffeine that instantly woke me up.
“We’re getting the Regalia back!” Prompto’s voice went high-pitched, he was definitely enthused.
“Indeed” Ignis separated himself from the table and stood next to us. “Cindy contacted us not long ago, she said we can pay her a visit in Hammerhead to retrieve the car, it’s already fixed”
“Lovely, I’m too tired still to keep on walking instead of moving in the car” Despite all the hours of sleep I got, my body was obviously trying to tell me that I needed a bit more rest.
“I can’t wait!” The blond jumped to his feet next to me, fidgeting like a child.
I stared at him, not really knowing if I should find his puerile attitude to be endearing or just disappointing. He was supposed to be my same age.
“For the car or for the girl?” Gladiolus’ deep voice asked all of a sudden.
He had startled us, but Prompto actually jolted up and squeaked loudly. I had to suppress a laugh, even if I ended up covering my mouth not to openly grin.
“I’m sure Prompto’s interest is merely on the car” Ignis replied, a harmless sarcastic comment.
“I, uh…” The aforesaid was flushing bright red, so he whipped his head toward the tent. “Where’s Noct?”
“Right here” Came the prince’s sleepy voice just as he exited the tent, yawning still.
“Let’s head on out, shall we?” The royal advisor said as soon as he noticed him.
We all stood up and prepared to start walking to Hammerhead. Luckily, it wasn’t too far away.
However, as soon as I stood up straight, my body complained. I uttered a genuine groan of pain when my legs had to support my weight again. Every single muscle of my body hurt. Every. Single. One.
Not only my legs, but also my back, my arms, my stomach, my neck, my hips… everything! Surely all the walking, running, fighting and standing under the sun took its toll on me.
“What’s wrong?!” Prompto’s face of excitement drastically changed into one of concern when he heard me cry out.
“Nothing” I refused to dwell on my soreness, and to show weakness for that matter. “I feel alright”
“This one is not used to the fighting life” Gladiolus guessed, watching how I softly grimaced as I stretched myself very slowly.
“I could use a few more hours of sleep” I grinded my teeth and ignored the dull pain as I began walking with them.
“You can always nap in the car!” Prompto suggested to cheer me up.
“That’s definitely what I’m gonna do” Noctis stated confidently.
“For a change, huh?” His friend teased him, nudging him softly.
“You, missy” Gladiolus lightly placed a strong arm over my shoulders. “Need to do some training”
“Why would you say that?” I sarcastically asked him. “Just because it feels like my demise, that doesn’t imply yesterday was too much fighting for me!”
I glanced over at Ignis, wary of his opinion on my sarcasm again. This time it amused him, since it wasn’t hurting anyone. He smiled softly at my words.
“Tonight we camp again, and tomorrow I’m gonna train with you” Gladiolus assured, determined. “First thing in the morning”
“Camp again?” Prompto whined, overhearing our conversation despite having one of his own with Prince Noctis. “Aw! I really hope we get to sleep in a bed!”
Even though his whining was irritating, I agreed with him. There was so much we could do with our sleeping bags and the tent.
I spent most of our way to Hammerhead chatting with Gladiolus. He insisted on giving me some useful tips to improve my form, reminding me of our training sessions back in Lucis. Some were useful, but we resolved that despite it all, the only thing that I was truly missing was practice. My body would get used to it only with time. Even if some of his tips were useful and I tried to keep them safe in my memory.
“We’re almost there!” Prince Noctis announced, just as we could see Hammerhead not far from us.
For many more minutes we walked in silence, being driven by the strong desire to get to our destination. To finally retrieve our beloved Regalia that would carry us again.
The heavy silence was only broken when the sunshine of the group piped up.
“Dying of thirst here!” Prompto heaved tiredly, lazily dragging himself, dramatically for comical purposes. “I’ll see you guys in a moment, go on without me! And go say hi to Cindy for me!”
“I could use a bite right now too” Gladio friendly shoved the blond as he followed after him to the diner. I concealed a little laugh when the smaller boy nearly fell to the ground because of it.
“We should get ourselves some curatives for battle” I suggested, thinking it to be a smart idea.
“I will see to it” Ignis nodded, agreeing with me.
“I’ll go see Cindy” Prince Noctis carelessly said.
“Why don’t you go with Noct, Alexandria?” My friend asked me before he went over to the shop.
By the way he did, it made me feel like even he had realized about our enmity even if I still tried to hide it. Honestly, I couldn’t blame him for his attempt at making us like each other.
I rolled my eyes when I thought no one could see me and reluctantly followed after Prince Noctis. We spotted Cindy outside the garage and so we marched on forwards.
“Good day, Cindy” I politely said as we approached her.
The girl turned around to see us and dedicated us a dazzling smile.
“Howdy, y’all!”
“How was your da-“
“Is it fixed?” Noctis interrupted me, too bothered by my manners, even if he could definitely learn some himself.
“Sure is!” She replied calmly, with that cheerful attitude that reminded me of Prompto. “Y’all better take care of her now, or Paw Paw will get real mad”
“It’s okay to drive it now, right?” The prince crossed his arms coolly. “I might get behind the wheel myself”
I did not like the idea of the reckless spoiled prince driving, especially not when someone as responsible as Ignis Scientia was supposed to do all the driving. To be fair, I wasn’t quite fond of the concept of Prompto driving again either.
“Go ‘head!” Cindy nodded with enthusiasm, motioning over to the car.
I had no idea an inanimate object like it was a car could be missed so dearly. But it felt exhilarating to know we didn’t have to walk so much again, enduring the sun and the heat, that we could just relax and cruise in that beautiful and expensive ride.
“She’s back!” Prompto excitedly ran towards us, casually dropping an arm on his friend’s shoulder. “We should all take a picture with her!”
Jittery and excited, the blond took his camera out and gave it to Cindy.
Noctis motioned for Gladiolus and Ignis to get closer, to which they gladly obliged. I looked over to Prompto as I positioned myself in front of the car, waiting until he was done giving her directions.
I couldn’t pinpoint whether he was so excited and jittery over having an excuse to get closer to Cindy or to have our car back. Perhaps it was a bit of both.
I looked over my shoulder to Ignis and Gladio posing at both sides of the car just in time to hear Prompto standing next to me and plopping down on the floor.
Since the prince was sitting down too, I decided to do so as well. I sat down between Noctis and Prompto and looked at the camera.
I smiled a little when the blond boy at my left opened his arms in a triumphant gesture, so I thought I should strike a pose for a change.
I held two fingers up, trying to look cute, and showcased my best smile for the camera. As soon as the clicking of the photo being taken sounded and the flash shone into our eyes, Prompto jumped to his feet and went over to retrieve his camera.
I stood up and brushed my tight black trousers, suddenly feeling slightly awkward because of the picture. I resolved to just get in the car, supposing we were to ride off immediately, and wait there.
Besides, that would give me the opportunity to sit in the middle of the back seat instead of being stuck on one end next to Prince Noctis. Even if it would be quite a tight squeeze with Gladiolus on the other side.
“Haha!” Prompto enthusiastically took his place in the passenger’s seat, bouncing in the spot. “This is awesome!”
“May I take a look at the picture, Prompto?” I asked him, seeing as he still held the camera.
“Sure!” He quickly pressed a few buttons to display the photo we had just taken before passing the camera over to me.
It was an endearing image, the five of us around the car that kept us together and moved us forward in our journey. Even I, not usually photogenic, looked quite good in that photo. Although Ignis and Gladio behind us were definitely more elegant.
Prince Noctis next to me seemed to have a classy stance as well, despite his smirk. Prompto just looked adorably goofy.
“It’s lovely” I commented as I handed him his camera back. “I would really like a copy of it”
“You got it!” The boy slightly turned around in the seat to look at me. “I’ll give you one as soon as I print them, promise!”
Suddenly, our friends got into the car as well. Only that, to my surprise, Ignis and Gladiolus sat at either side of me. Prince Noctis sat at the front. Noctis was driving. He was actually driving.
“I thought Noct could go for a little test drive” Ignis commented as he got comfortable in the seat to my left.
“There aren’t any seatbelts, are there?” I whispered to Gladiolus, subtly leaning into his side.
“Nope” He laughed lowly.
“Alright” Noctis said as he started the engine.
I just prayed to the Gods that he wasn’t as much of an awful driver as I imagined.
Ten minutes into the ride and I was getting sleepy. We were silent for the most part, except for the friendly banter and the small comments that mostly Prompto and Ignis made.
I absently looked over to Gladiolus to my right, who was immersed in a book. I never quite pictured him as an avid reader, but it was a pleasant surprise.
Too amused, however, I smiled. The idea that he might be reading a romantic novel was hysterical, although it was probably the drowsiness messing with my brain.
I yawned, trying to block any noise, and closed my eyes. Prince Noctis had told us that we needed to make a stop before reaching Galdin Quay in order to make a delivery that Cindy had asked us to do.
Wondering whether I would get enough rest, I tried to fall asleep. I heard Ignis letting out a small chuckle in my direction, probably finding endearing that I was trying to take a nap. I hoped he didn’t compare me to the prince because of it.
To my surprise, I felt a heavy arm casually falling over me. Gladiolus had no problem in letting me use him as a pillow, and I was too comfortable not to comply. I leaned my head on his shoulder, managing a small thank you in appreciation for his attentive gesture, and dozed off.
I awoke soon after. Not much had changed: the sun remained at the same spot in the sky, Noctis and Prompto were chatting with Ignis, and Gladiolus kept reading his book.
In fact, Gladiolus kept allowing me to use him as a pillow. I looked up at him and watched how he calmly read, not being bothered by me at all.
It was odd, but also endearing that he had no problem in engaging in such an intimate gesture like putting his arm over my shoulders. But I enjoyed it.
“Mornin’” He just said, his amber eyes still focused on the pages.
“Do you feel more rested now?” Ignis took interest in me as well.
“Actually, I do” I gently shoved myself away from Gladiolus and stretched my arms. “Although it feels like I didn’t sleep much”
“Merely around twenty minutes” Ignis looked at his watch. “Just enough”
“Longwythe Rest Area” Noctis announced as he proceeded to park. “This is it”
“Perfect timing” I said under my breath, to myself.
As soon as Prince Noctis parked the car, we all got out and stretched our legs. Riding the Regalia was comfortable and practical, but it could be quite harmful when sitting still for too long.
While he went over to speak to the motel manager who was supposed to take the package that Cindy loaded in the trunk of the car, I leaned against the side of it.
I yawned openly and heard a sound that I was starting to get familiar with by then.
“Prompto!” I complained, turning to him knowing he had taken a picture.
For a moment he hid behind his camera, but then he showed his face and put an innocent expression.
“What?” He uttered, doe eyes wide open. “It’s a good photo!”
I didn’t really know if he was just being goofy or if his avid photographer side thought it was a natural and spontaneous image, but I chuckled nonetheless. In fact, I heard Ignis laughing subtly next to me too. It was rare to hear him laugh, so I grinned wider when Prompto achieved it.
“Let me see it” Gladiolus told Prompto, already laughing picturing it.
The aforesaid lent him the camera and retrieved it as the burly man laughed heartedly.
I was slightly embarrassed about the picture, but it was nice to see everybody having such a nice time.
“Gotta sit tight” Noctis came back with us, impatiently crossing his arms over his chest. “They’ll get it in a moment”
I didn’t move from the spot, I just let my gaze wander around the environment. In doing so, I suddenly gasped at the sight of something that absolutely made my day.
A dog.
I energetically tapped the closest person to me –who happened to be the bubbly blond –and pointed him the puppy when he locked eyes with me, confused.
Just then he barked, causing the other three to turn around with curiosity.
“I never knew you liked animals so much, Alexandria” Gladiolus was staring at me too.
“I, um…” Clearing my throat to regain my dignity, I tried to shrug it off. “Dogs are adorable”
“Umbra!” Prince Noctis kneeled down in a second to pet the black furred dog. With beautiful orange eyes and gray chest, it was a beautiful and adorable animal.
That was right! It had been a long time since I last saw him, but it was one of the dogs that Lady Lunafreya and Prince Noctis used to communicate with one another. The other one being Pryna, that one with white fur.
“Bringin’ us stuff” Prompto slightly leaned forward to baby talk the doggy. “Atta boy!”
“That dog can really track a scent”
“Certainly ‘nose’ how to find us”
While the blond was still distracted with Umbra, Gladiolus and I looked at Ignis for his terrible pun. Despite the fact that he seemed very proud about it. When his green eyes met mine, I raised an eyebrow. His only response was to curl up the corner of his lips ever so lightly.
Seeing as Noctis was too busy with the notebook from his soon to be wife –I wondered if they wrote love letters to each other or just ordinary messages –I went over to pet the dog himself. I allowed myself to do it, unable to hold back the urge.
The prince eyed me warily and stuck the notebook to his chest, not really wanting me to read it. I averted my glance and played with the dog instead.
“Aw, he likes you!” Prompto cooed cutely to me.
“Alexandria is quite the dog lover” Ignis whispered to him, however loud enough for me to hear him. Presumably deliberately.
I looked down to the dog, but smiled nonetheless when I thought they couldn’t see me.
It started to get dark while we carried on our way in the road.
We had stocked up in potions once again –never too many curatives –and decided to camp for the night. I was slightly tired, also because we had done more hunts to earn some more money, but I was not nearly as exhausted as the day before. Surely the short nap in the Regalia helped.
After the delicious dinner our personal chef prepared –Ignis outdid himself, his drumsticks were even better than his rice balls –we just passed the time before going to sleep.
I sat at the edge of the elevation we had camped in, just like the other time, and observed the beautiful scenery. The sunset was due, and I always enjoyed watching them. I was fascinated with the beautiful colors of the sunset softly drawing across the horizon.
The clouds gathering orange and pink shades as the sky slowly turned darker, the bright sun lazily hiding as its yellow form faded. The wind also felt freeing and refreshing even if slightly cold, caressing my face and making my hair fly into the air. It felt peaceful to be surrounded by nature –at least when the light still kept daemons at bay –and knowing my friends were right behind me, chatting and joking as they prepared dinner.
I smiled at the thought, being content with how things were working out. Even though I had been so full of doubts and concerns about our journey at the beginning. It had been silly, I had nothing to worry about.
“Enjoying the view?” A gruff voice got me out of my daydream.
Gladiolus then plopped down next to me, letting his legs hang off the cliff like mine were.
“It is definitely worth watching” I looked at him briefly before returning my gaze to the sunset.
“How’re you holding up?”
“Just fine”
“You sure?”
I was forced to glance at him again when he insisted. He sounded almost worried.
“Is there a reason why you’re asking?” His eyes left the sunset as well just to lock with mine. “Did Ignis tell you to come check on me?”
“Nah” Gladiolus grinned a little, holding my stare. “Just wanna make sure you feel comfortable”
“Why wouldn’t I be?”
“You’re the only girl in the group, and besides… you’re not as close as we are”
“I’m sorry, but I believe Prompto isn’t either”
“Why are you here alone then?”
With his words, I finally understood what was happening. Ignis was worried that I wanted to be alone.
Usually, when I isolated myself it meant I was anxious. I used to do it back in Lucis whenever I tried to decide what was the best decision for our kingdom, what was the best way to give advice to our king because he valued my opinion so much.
I usually had the need to be surrounded by people to avoid being alone with my thoughts unless I truly needed to be. Ignis knew that my loneliness was a clear sign that I was overwhelmed and needed some space, to get away from all my duties back with King Regis. It really was. But once outside of that environment, the pressure had started to fade away. Most of it.
That was why Ignis thought it was best to casually ask Gladiolus to come chat with me not to summon attention upon me, not to alarm Noctis and Prompto.
“I promise, Gladiolus” I chuckled a little when he rolled his eyes sassily because of how I addressed him. “There is nothing wrong with me, I merely wanted to admire the view in peace. You both know how much I love these natural phenomena”
Gladiolus nodded, probably being reminded of the time I insisted of bringing them with me to watch a lunar eclipse. But to be honest, they did enjoy it just as much as I did.
“You wouldn’t lie to me, would you?” Gently, he bumped his shoulder into mine.
I noticed that he was all about those affectionate gestures, and I didn’t really mind them that much.
“I wouldn’t dare” Clumsily, I emulated the shoulder bump. Even though he didn’t move an inch when I did it and Gladiolus made me totter a tad.
The man let out a guffaw of laughter that echoed all around us and suddenly stuck me in a headlock. I squeaked in surprise, being it the last thing I expected him to do.
My head rested against his ribs as his strong arm softly wrapped around my neck, playfully shaking me around and rubbing my hair with his other hand.
“Stop it!” I struggled even though I had nothing to do against his brute strength. My hands did push against him in a futile attempt to get rid of his grip.
“Whatcha gonna do? Tell Iggy on me?”
“No need to, he’ll come save me!”
Indeed, the aforesaid announced his presence by politely coughing. I was positive that he would be watching our interaction and would have the need to stop Gladiolus’ horseplay as soon as he saw it.
I knew that man too well.
“We should all get some rest now” He said in a manner-of-fact way, just as his friend let go of me. “We need to wake up early in the morning”
“Pleasure talking to you, kid” Gladiolus held my arm and effortlessly pulled me to my feet.
“Likewise, ‘big guy’” I joked, using a term Prompto often called him.
He just laughed some more and headed back to the tent, where only the campfire lightened the dark night. Prince Noctis and Prompto were probably inside already.
“Is everything alright then, Alexandria?” Ignis placed a hand on my back –a fond gesture that secretly meant to remind me how much he cared about me –and walked with me to the tent.
“Never better” I honestly said, being engulfed by a delightful feeling of euphoria that I hoped lasted forever.
We sweetly smiled at each other and got into the tent, where we prepared to get some sleep. Ignis lied down, took his glasses off and closed his eyes.
I took a moment to analyze who I should lie down next to. Gladiolus was discarded, because he was extremely warm –it was enough that I refused to use my sleeping bag just because of the heat I woke up in –not to mention his size that took most of his adjacent space.
The prince was lean and much smaller, but he stirred around a lot and would surely wake me up many times. Besides, I didn’t fancy accidentally cuddling closer to him in my sleep.
I just sat down between Ignis and Prompto, even if the first’s legs were so long because of his tall stature and I was forced to shrink myself because of it.
I resolved to lie over my side, facing the blond. He was the smallest and probably the most tranquil sleeper out of all of them. On top of all, he made himself small in his little personal bubble while the other were sprawled out around the tent.
Trying to take as much space as I could to get comfortable, I shifted closer to him.
I closed my eyes and heaved a deep breath of satisfaction, being lulled to sleep by the sound of their calm breathing and the wind gently howling outside.
The first full day of the journey was officially done. I could not wait to see what our second day had in store for us.
Sunshine in the Moonlight Chapter 2: A Bump in the Road
Fandom: Final Fantasy XV
Pairing: Prompto x Alexandria (OC)
Previous Chapter - Chapter Index - Next Chapter
Wattpad - AO3
All I wanted to do was to mimic what Prompto did before and carelessly plop down on the ground, lying down and giving a rest to my sore muscles. But I wanted to appear unconcerned and serene. I merely leaned on the wall, catching my breath and resting in silence while Ignis and Noctis talked to Cindy, the mechanic that was repairing our car. I just hoped none of the boys felt like talking to me, because I was too exhausted to speak at the moment.
After the car broke down and we had to drag it to Hammerhead –being the gentlemen they were, the four of them insisted that a lady like myself shouldn't push with them, but I just couldn't stand there doing nothing while they did all the hard work -, we were all a tad moody and worn out. Luckily, the Regalia should be fixed soon enough.
On the other hand, we weren't so lucky seeing as we needed to earn some money to be able to pay for the repair. Definitely an unexpected turn of events.
"Gladiolus" I called him, hoping he would keep the conversation at a minimum.
He turned his head to me, his amber eyes confidently locking with mine.
"Gladio" He corrected me with a smirk.
I decided to ignore his comment and keep on speaking.
"Do we have to hunt so we can earn some money?"
"Yup, gotta show who's boss" He coolly crossed his strong arms over his chest. "Why? You scared?"
I knew he was teasing me, we had trained together many times after all. And Gladio definitely enjoyed winding me up, hoping to get a reaction from me.
"Of course I'm not! I just wanted to know, that's all" I replied, offended by his lack of faith in me. Gladiolus let out a smug chuckle, his smirk widening slightly.
"Now you know: we have to" He motioned over to the grease-monkey girl. "Cindy said it's what we need to do"
"What do you think about Cindy, Alexandria?" Prompto asked me, a curious twinkle in his vibrant blue eyes.
"She is pretty" I mumbled, feeling slightly jealous.
I was never a girl like Cindy was. Boys didn't stop to stare at me and neither did they consider me in that way. And seeing the four of them gawking at her -although mainly Gladiolus and Prompto -wasn't my cup of tea.
Surely, I had many talents other than outside beauty. And I had better things to worry about than romance, such as looking after my duties and trying to cultivate myself in mind and body. But it was always nice to be complimented and noticed.
My eyes darted from one man to the other when I realized they were staring at me in surprise. Had they never heard a girl compliment another girl?
"What?" I defended myself, shrugging in a carefree fashion. "Objectively speaking, Cindy is good-looking"
"Are you and Ignis siblings?" Prompto said all of a sudden. "You're so alike!"
"No!" I laughed, slightly flattered that he saw similarity.
Although it wasn't the first time such comparison was made. After all, we spent a lot of time together and not only did we have similar attitudes but also physical appearance.
Ignis' tawny hair resembled my own, except for the fact that mine was lighter. And my dark brown eyes had a hint of green in them like his emerald ones. But other than that, we were mainly alike in our demeanors. Still, that was only because I had always tried to be like Ignis.
He was an intelligent man, a selfless and elegant individual that I had always admired. Besides, in order to fit into the Royal Council I felt like I needed to be more like him, so I had always seen him as some sort of a role model.
"It definitely wouldn't be the first time we're mistaken for relatives" Ignis' voice said as he joined us, a bit of amusement dripping from it.
"What's up, Noct?" The blond asked the raven-haired prince as he arrived with Ignis.
"She gave us some money to stay somewhere and rest" The first one let out a resigned sigh. "But we still need to hunt to earn some more"
Of course we did.
I turned around, rolling my eyes when I thought they couldn't see me, and started to walk away.
"I need some water" I sulked, heading for the diner.
Actually, I was in a really bad mood. It wasn't like I had expected in the least.
For starters, the car had failed us at the very start of our journey. It wasn’t a wise decision to let Prompto drive it, as we had to push the Regalia all the way and then wait until Cid and Cindy fixed it.
Also, Prince Noctis was whiny and just overall irritating to me. He didn't really care that much about anything, really, just about taking a good nap while the rest of us solved everything.
Luckily, I was still in great terms with Ignis and Gladiolus.
"I'll go with you!" Prompto offered cheerfully, jumping up from his sitting positing in the ground.
I didn't mind his company that much. He ended up being incredibly friendly, and actually made me smile in spite of myself with his witty and funny comments. Prompto turned out to greatly improve my mood with his bubbly personality.
The air conditioner that received us as soon as we walked into the diner made me let out an involuntary sigh of relief. It really cooled me down after the physical strain and the heat that we were under for quite a while there.
I sat in one of the red stools and patiently waited for the waiter to take our order. We didn't really have the money to get any food, but hopefully they'd serve us some water for free.
Prompto sat in the adjacent stool and swung his legs around like a child, which made me grin as well. As soon as the man came and asked us what we wanted, my companion spoke up for me.
"Two waters, please" He said, holding up two fingers.
Prompto then used his arms as a pillow as he rested his head on the counter, and I leaned mine on my hand as I rested my elbow on the surface. Still resting his cheek on the counter, Prompto turned his head to look at me.
"Great start, huh?"
"Delightful" I replied sarcastically, taking advantage that Ignis couldn't hear me.
He didn't really like when I was sarcastic, I couldn't understand why when he often was himself. Probably because I was being slightly passive aggressive and it was rude and disrespectful.
It had been a long time since I allowed myself to be sarcastic, though. I had learned some proper manners, and in the environment I was always in because of the king I had to keep a serious demeanor.
The waiter brought us two glasses of water, to which we both said thanks at the unison. Prompto drank his almost in one go, and I took a long gulp that greatly refreshed my dry throat.
"Can I... ask you something?" The blond piped up after a brief silence.
"I suppose..." I shrugged, taking another sip of my water.
"You don't... get along with Noct, do you?"
For a moment I was silent, not really knowing how to react to the sudden question.
"Uh... That's quite an improper question to ask, don't you think?"
"Sorry..." He just let out a light chuckle, even if he blushed a little.
There was a small pause in which none of us spoke. Prompto surely felt uncomfortable with the silence, though, because he piped up again.
"He's a really cool guy once you get to know him, trust me" Cautiously, he nudged me in the ribs, almost hoping he wasn't going too far. "You just need to give him a chance"
I would if ‘His Highness’ would give me a break and stop giving me death glares or annoyed looks as well as complaining about me. Not that we spent too much time together anyhow, but when we did and I commented something about his attitude to him he would snap at me. It had gotten to a point where Prince Noctis would roll his eyes at me if I as much as glanced at him.
"I believe you" I half-joked, really wanting to reciprocate about his happy-go-lucky attitude.
Prompto smiled broadly and then averted his eyes, looking through the windows. When I followed his gaze and realized he was looking at Cindy in admiration, I rolled my eyes and focused back on my water.
I drank the rest of it and sighed, hoping our journey from now on would develop in a more satisfying manner. I tried to be optimistic and tell myself that this was but a bump on the road.
Suddenly, my companion jumped to his feet and waved his hand around to catch my attention.
"Alex!" He called me absently. "We're ready to go"
He sprinted out of the diner, since I realized Gladiolus was gesturing through the window for him to move. I obliged in a daze.
I knew he hadn't even realized, but he had called me Alex, which left me bewildered. It had been a very long time since someone called me that, and the fond nickname brought me a wave of warmth that forced me to smile.
I followed after him, hopeful for the rest of our trip together.
I wasn't too bothered by my black tight trousers nor by my leather boots, but I was certainly feeling strangled because of my thick patterned jacket. So I took it off and tied it around my waist, leaving me in my light gray t-shirt, tired of the scorching sun shining upon us.
"Are they supposed to be too far away now?" Prompto whined quite a bit too, and it was starting to get on my sulky mood.
I sighed tiredly as I brought my hands to my neck, attempting to braid my long wavy hair into a comfortable and practical braid.
"I believe there are our targets" Ignis stated, pointing over to a few scorpion-looking creatures.
"Let's get down to business" Gladiolus coolly said, holding his hand out until his big sword appeared right in front of it.
"Alright!" Prompto excitedly said, taking out his gun, ready to battle.
"Let's do it" Noctis looked over to me, almost defiantly.
That boy was about to see what I could do with a sword.
Before I could send him another challenging glare, he had warped to stand in front of the enemies, denying me any chance to do so. I huffed, knowing he had done it deliberately to wind me up.
"Reckless" Ignis smiled a little, finding that deed somehow endearing.
The three remaining men raced to get to the prince and give him some backup in battle, so I resigned myself. I took a breath with determination and made my slender sword to materialize in front of me. Perks of being a Lucian, even though I couldn't really warp strike like Prince Noctis. But the king had insisted on granting me that small power to aid me in the journey.
I smirked to myself, prepared for some action, and ran to catch up with the others. Although they were almost done defeating them, a new wave of scorpions arrived. My time to shine.
I approached the closest creature and swung my sword horizontally, hitting it and making it shriek in pain. The scorpion jumped at me in anger, but I was fast enough to take a small jump back to avoid being hit and easily parried the strike. With another thrust, the creature was easily defeated. I nimbly moved around, swinging my weapon in a circle and killing another one in one mere blow.
I could hear my companion’s small banter as they fought themselves, along with their pained grunts and heavy breathing. I continued to attack, parry and evade the hits while they assisted me in battle. In that manner, we got rid of the pest in no time.
"All done" Ignis concluded proudly when the last one fell.
I wiped the sweat off my forehead with the back of my hand as I calmly used the other one to get rid of the sword for the time being.
Calmly turning around to meet face to face with the boys, I realized that two of them were staring blankly at me. Prince Noctis and his friend Prompto. Come to think of it, they were the only ones that had never witnessed me during a fight. Gladiolus was in part responsible for my skills, taking in consideration he trained with me and showed me a way to improve myself. And being so close with Ignis, he knew about my swordsmanship as well. The prince and the blond, on the other hand, had no idea what I was capable of.
"I'm impressed" Came Prince Noctis' voice.
That definitely had to be one of the first –if not the actual first –times his voice wasn't dripping with sarcasm or mockery when addressing me. And he had just complimented me, in his own way.
"Thank you" For once, I decided to spare him the bitter comment too.
"Don't get too confident, Alexandria" Ignis warned me, always devoted to his unofficial role as my mentor. "It is but the first of many battles"
"That was so cool!" Exclaimed Prompto, finally closing his mouth, that he had agape in awe.
In fact, he held his hand up in the air for me to high-five him. Such a mundane gesture made me froze.
The rational part of me said that it went against all the principles that I was trying to represent as a member of the great King's Council. Also, I had been too focused on my purpose that it felt like years since someone last offered to high-five me. Which was quite sad and absurd.
Probably figuring I was somewhat stuck-up, Noctis high-fived his friend instead seeing as I took more than two seconds to respond. I tried to encourage Prompto with a small chaste smile, hoping he didn't notice my reluctance like his royal friend had. Noctis did, however, roll his eyes at me. In fact, so hard that for a moment I feared they would get stuck on his skull. He also shook his head in an exasperated gesture.
"We still have work to do" Gladiolus reminded me, enthusiastically patting my back as he passed by. He approached the two and began walking with them, saying something to Noctis about his form.
I sighed when the attention was diverged from me and nodded to myself. Truth was, I observed Prince Noctis, pleasantly surprised. In order to avoid getting Prompto's feelings hurt, he hadn't thought twice to intervene. Perhaps I had misjudged him, he seemed to care deeply about his friends despite it all.
I guessed that Ignis and Gladiolus wouldn't stand by his side if he wasn't worth it. Ready or not to take the throne, they saw something special in him. Special enough to follow him.
I still didn't like him, though.
"Is everything alright, Alexandria?" Ignis' voice startled me as he stood next to me.
"Why would you ask?"
"You seem tense"
"I'm not tense..."
Only when his gloved hand gently wrapped around my bare one, did I realize it was closed in a fist. Involuntarily, I had taken in a stiff posture. I let out a breath that I realized I was holding and opened my hands, cautiously looking up into his green eyes.
"Maybe a little..." I admitted, tilting my head to the side in resignation.
"There is no need to be so uptight, dear" I knew Ignis was concerned when he used such terms of endearment. While they weren't impossible to hear from his lips, it was definitely rare.
Luckily, I felt comfortable enough to confess my restlessness. One of the things that I was allowed to do in presence of King Regis was speak my mind. After all, it was my honest opinion what contributed to the counseling he sought from me. Even if it sometimes clashed with his own, but we both looked for the kingdom's best interest just like Ignis and the rest.
Being Ignis my friend as well, I wanted to share my unease with him. Most likely, I was making a great deal out of something truly small.
"Such a small gesture as a simple high-five... It... puzzled me" I confessed, feeling the need to avert my gaze. "It has been so long since I had such an everyday exchange like that… I froze, I didn't know how to act. Surely you wouldn't think less of me because of that"
"You've been put under a much greater pressure than I thought you were" Ignis scanned my expression, his green eyes laced with worry still. "You've been surrounded by politicians for far too long and it has become a burden"
"What do you mean?"
"You're too young to behave like a full grown-up, I believe"
I raised my eyebrows, understanding what he was trying to say. I had been too busy keeping appearances, almost losing myself along the way. I needed to relax a little and stop overacting over a simple high-five. I had, indeed, spent almost every second of the day surrounded by the Council, important and earnest people.
"It is a bit silly, isn't it?" I chuckled in the end, self-conscious all of a sudden.
"Take Noct, for instance" Ignis adjusted his glasses absently. "One year younger than yourself, Alex, but he rejoices in the small things"
Two 'Alex's in one day! Not to appear childish, I tried to hide the fact that it felt exhilarating to be addressed as something different than the dull 'Alexandria'.
I looked at the prince, just in time to see him being playfully pushed by Prompto. Noctis laughed and pushed him back, keeping the horseplay going.
"Are you saying I need to get myself a Prompto?" I joked, letting him know that the message he tried to deliver got through and that I was willing to obey it.
"Perhaps" Ignis laughed, a soft but genuine chuckle.
"Hey, Miss Adelaide!" Gladio shouted in the distance. "Are you coming or what?"
"Sorry!" I yelled back, holding my hand up and starting to walk to catch up with them.
"You can fulfill your duty and still remain true to yourself, remember that" My friend reminded me as we started moving.
"Thanks, Iggy" I observed him closely, studying his reaction.
Like I expected, his face lit up with the nickname. It had been so long since I last called him that as well! Perhaps our journey wouldn't be good for Prince Noctis only, but for myself as well.
