The way The World Ends With You handles equipment-gating ends up having some very fun implications.

First, equipment is level-gated, but rather than being tied directly to character level, it's instead tied to a levellable stat called Bravery (BRV) – which makes some narrative sense, since equipment in The World Ends With You consists of fashion items; in narrative terms, you're literally building the confidence to pull them off.

Second, equipment is also gender-gated, at least in theory – but since there's all of one playable girl in the original game (the sequel is better about this), rather than building in any special mechanics for this, the game just gives all of the "for girls" clothing inflated BRV requirements, and the sole playable girl a massive starting BRV score.

In practice, this achieves its objective, for the most part. The inflated BRV for girls' clothing means that even once a male character reaches the BRV level required to wear it, he'll usually have access to gender-conforming options with better stats.

... in the main game.

In the post-game, however, there are many more options for grinding BRV, and the stats for girls' clothing start to better reflect their elevated BRV requirements, to the extent that many post-game optimisation guides genuinely recommend putting your entire party in maid dresses if you can grind out the BRV to equip them.

I thought that was something this blog's followership would appreciate.

yeah, the corn did not talk to me in the slightest! not even in an abstract sense, which i would have taken anyday over their frankly rude radio silence

and i knoooow the forest is better, but not for doing flips and stuff! the bark on the branches is hard and scratchy and uneven for circling around to build momentum, and scratchy leaf piles means your feet could slip out from underneath you when you land!!!! jungle gyms may be named after jungles, but theres a reason that chimpanzees didnt invent gymnastics or anything like that

THAT’S WHAT I’M SAYING!! CONSCIOUS PEOPLE!!!!! THE TREES TALK, BUT IT’S MORE.. ABSTRACT THAN A CONVERSATION BETWEEN THINGS LIKE US. I WILL USE THIS CONVERSATION TO SAY THIS, THOUGH. TRUNKS AND BRANCHES ARE THE BEST JUNGLE GYMS. THAT’S WHY THERE’S JUNGLE IN THE NAME, EVEN HUMANS BASE THEM OFF TREES!

AND PAVEMENT’S JUST SPACE YOU COULD PUT GIANT, SCRATCHY LEAF PILES. I HEAR IT’S BAD LUCK TO STEP ON CRACKS, BUT THERE WON’T BE ANY CRACKS ON LEAF LITTER!

..UNLESS IT COUNTS WHEN THEY BREAK UNDER YOUR FOOT? IN WHICH CASE.. HMM. MAYBE I’M MORE UNLUCKY THAN I THOUGHT.

I have, and I did like it, but I dunno if I vibe with it as much as other people seem to do. TBF I've never loved the live action Sonic movies, they're decent enough but definitely not my favorite piece of Sonic media. That being said, this was probably my favorite out of the movies so far? They have improved a lot since the first one which is great to see.

One thing I think the movie did great was the action scenes, the coreography and animation was so fun and impactful and incredibly exciting to see! I also think the movie did a good job on selling us on Shadow's and Maria's friendship in a short period of time, that little montage of the two of them just doing a bunch of silly goofy shenanigans was really endearing. The wholesome innonsence of it all makes Maria's death hurt way more.

EXTRA spoiler, but arguably one of the things that made me the most excited in ghe movie was the post credit scene where Amy showed up LMAOOOO I've been waiting for her to show up. And I exepcted Metal Sonic to show up sooner or later in these movies, but I didn't expect a whole army of them haha but that seems like a fun idea.

before the Gameplay Reveal of Dragon Age: The Veilguard went live the other day, the stream had a countdown on a purple background. there was cool music playing in the background of this. there is a rewatch link for the gameplay video, but it doesn't include the song. Ghil Dirthalen recorded it though, so if you would like to re-listen to it, you can do so here at [this link]. there is also a link in the description of the video to a download of the audio file there.
