So many people saying online check in isn't reliable but literally I have never had issues checking in online before which is why I'm stressing to high heaven lmao

After 27hrs on the road, 5 hrs in total delay, although in the end it added up to 1.5, making a mess and ruining two leggings, because of my lady month thingy, and my luggage still being in Frankfurt I am finally home. Clothes I have with me. 2 pairs of leggings ->ruined, 1 pair of jeans, 1 t-shirt (short sleeves), 1 knitted blouse, 1 fleece jacket and my heavy coat, which is way too heavy for my country's weather. All good. At least I will see my man cat.

when you book an expedia flight, can you check into your flight remotely?
cuz they give you a confirmation number and an itinerary number, but the check-in sites (lufthansa, air canada etc) ask for a ticket number or a booking reference and none of those are the same name (and you can only check in 23 hours before the flight but i like to overprepare)
cuz like I know you can print your tickets by scanning your passport day of but I wanna know if i can do all this remotely and print my shit at home first

The US has hit Lufthansa with a record $4m (£3m) penalty after the airline barred Jewish passengers from a 2022 flight because some allegedly refused to follow rules requiring face masks.
The Department of Transportation said Lufthansa discriminated against the passengers, treating them "as if they were all a single group", though many were not travelling together and did not know one another.
It said the penalty was the largest it had ever issued against an airline for civil rights violations.
Lufthansa said in the consent order that it was agreeing to the payment to avoid litigation but denied discrimination, blaming the incident on "an unfortunate series of inaccurate communications".
"Lufthansa is dedicated to being an ambassador of goodwill, tolerance, diversity, and acceptance," the company said in a statement, adding that it had cooperated with the investigation and remained focused on training for its staff.
The episode involved passengers who were travelling from New York to Budapest, with a connection in Frankfurt, in May 2022.
Many of the passengers were male, wearing "distinctive garb typically worn by Orthodox Jewish men" and had used the same handful of travel agencies to book their tickets, according to the DOT.
During the first flight, the captain alerted Lufthansa security that some passengers had failed to follow crew instructions requiring masks, and barring gathering in aisles and other places on board.
The alert led to holds on tickets of more than 100 passengers, all of them Jewish, which led to them being blocked from their connecting flight.
The DOT said Lufthansa recognised that the action also would hurt people who had complied with the instructions but "concluded it was not practical to address each passenger individually".
The majority were rebooked on other flights the same day.
“No one should face discrimination when they travel, and today’s action sends a clear message to the airline industry that we are prepared to investigate and take action whenever passengers’ civil rights are violated,” US Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said.
The DOT said passengers interviewed for the investigation said they had not witnessed misbehaviour and Lufthansa later failed to identify any one passenger who had not followed the rules.
But in the consent order, Lufthansa said its staff was unable to single out passengers because "the infractions were so numerous, the misconduct continued for substantial portions of the flight and at different intervals and the passengers changed seats during the flight".
The DOT said it was requiring Lufthansa to pay $2m and would give the airline credit for $2m it has already paid to passengers as part of a legal settlement.

That was until the cabin crew realised there was no seat for him on the fully booked flight. The police were called and the man was handed over, but he was subsequently released.
Despite having a run-in with law enforcement, the man decided to, yet again, try and sneak on a plane undetected the following day.
The man was successful for the second time in passing through security and getting onboard another plane, Lufthansa flight LH2418, all without having a boarding pass. Since this flight was not fully booked, he was able to travel all the way to Stockholm

The planned retirement of Lufthansa's last remaining Boeing 707 was motivation enough to book a day-trip to Frankfurt during the 1984 summer holidays. D-ABUL, one of the three units serving in the Lufthansa passenger division all the way to the type's retirement, pushed back from the public observation deck, bound for a multiple leg flight South to Africa, if my memory serves me wellon a service to Harare, Zimbabwe.
On December 31, 1984, D-ABUL actually had the honour to operate the last-ever Boeing 707 flight of Lufthansa, a fare-well scenic flight from Hamburg all around Germany and back to Hamburg. She then was sold to Somali Airlines and ended her days donating parts to the USAF KC-135 refit program.

To recap the last two days
4th of December. We know there's some problems with snow in Munich but our travel agency told us it's fine and that the worst that can happen is the entire flight being rerouted to a different city in Germany. We have a 2h taxi transfer to the airport and arrive at 11am. We check in and are told the connecting flight from Munich to Hannover was cancelled but that we can get a later flight the same day. It would be a 6h hour layover but it would be fine. We go through security. The timetable says something like "gate info in 217 mins" and I'm like surely that's a typo. We figure out the scheduled gate where someone tells us the Lufthansa website says the flight is delayed by 20 mins. We check the airport website and it says it's delayed by 3h. There's absolutely no one at the gate. A couple minutes later I refresh the page and the flight status is changed to cancelled. At the same time I get an email with a job rejection. Still no one at the gate. 20 minutes later someone confirms the cancellation and we all have to check out and go through security again and leave the airport then get told to simply call or email the airline and we all have a budget of 150€ for one day per person for a taxi and hotel and food. Which we all have to sort out ourselves. Lufthansa cannot be reached by phone, mail or chat bot because they're completely swamped with complaints. Our travel agency doesn't even know our flight is cancelled. We wait for almost 3h for our travel agency to find a new flight for us - which they couldn't book remotely - and we're told that a hotel is still our responsibility. We're told to find a Lufthansa office which doesn't exist and only by chance figure out where to go. We go inside the airport again at 4pm and physically stand in a queue until 9pm without food or water or the possibility to sit down - even though my mum has a mobility issue - until we can reschedule our flight. There's two people sharing one computer handling every single case. Two people were allowed to cut in line but I was told off for asking a question. Some people had to accept 4am flights through Serbia and one couple was told the only option was to fly to Greece and from there to Munich even though the company was aware the flight would be cancelled again and they'd just get stuck in a second country. We book a hotel afterwards and arrive there at 10pm. We order food online since their kitchen is already closed.
5th of December. We get up at 4am and are back at the airport at 6am. We're wearing the same clothes since we only packed for a week and have no clean shirts or underwear or anything. We drink a bad coffee, buy a croissant and board an airplane to London at 8:35am with half an hour delay. I have a middle seat. The business class is half empty with several people taking a whole row to stretch out and sleep while we know there's still other people stuck in Cyprus who were told this flight was full. The flight is 5h long. My mum has a high risk of thrombosis and no access to medication. We get a single bottle of water and a flapjack. At some point I try to go to the bathroom and am told to quickly go back to my seat and fasten my seat belt because we're about to experience heavy turbulence. A stewardess walks through the aisles saying the same. I panic. Absolutely nothing happens. Zero turbulence. By the time we're allowed to stand up again there's 6 people in the bathroom queue before me and I'm told I'm not allowed to stand in the aisle and have to wait at my seat. By the time I sit down other people have already joined the queue again. At some point the purser in the business class takes pity on me and I'm allowed to use the business class bathroom. We fly two time zones West and arrive at 11am (mentally 1pm) starving and with aching legs. We have to go through security again and have to throw away our water. My mum gets randomly selected for a security check. The airport is busier than I've ever seen it and I've been at Heathrow multiple times each year when I studied in England. People are inconsiderate and even aggressive. We eat a sandwich and try to buy some painkillers. Our layover is another 5h. An hour before our flight I suddenly get a panic attack that gives me muscle spasms and I just about manage to board the plane. By the time we board I have to pee really badly because I downed an entire bottle of coconut water to get my blood circulation back up after the panic attack. We have a half hour delay because there's unfinished paperwork. Another middle seat. I get up to go to the bathroom as soon as we reached cruising height and use the bathroom at the front of the airplane because they didn't close the business class curtains and I know they sometimes don't bother on this short flight. When I come back the curtains are drawn and I'm told off for crossing the curtains. We land at just after 7pm German time because of the delay in the third time zone of the day. We arrive home at 8pm.

Endlich bin ich nach Hause.
Late arrival (2230) at BAH last night meant a late night for me.
Flights went well, aside from a scare the morning of departure that my connect to Germany had been canceled. Lufthansa re-booked me for another flight same day so no worries, except I had to be downgraded to economy (I'd booked Premium Economy roundtrip). It won't bad...a steady supply of Beck's in-flight made up for it (and the baby that apparently was being murdered further up the plane). Oh and there was a Hot Flight Attendant™ who was serving some excellent eye candy and his German made me feel things. United Airlines' app made the experience super fuckin' easy and I gotta say, for my first time flying international (MAC doesn't count 'cause it operates differently), it was a lot less intimidating than I thought and an unusually enjoyable experience.
Leave was good aside from some of the fam being sick (I am not). Glad I was able to catch a Norfolk Admirals game, despite them being shutout, and that there was decent enough weather for me to some pew pew therapy. But I'm really glad I was able to visit/harass/reconnect with my German teacher (an Actual German™) from high school, who I've kept in touch with ever since, as my schedule often doesn't allow that. She's retired now so maybe I can work that out more easily. Anyway she told me my German was still very good, which gave me rainbows in my soul, 'cause I was worried it had gone to shit since I don't have any way of practicing my speaking. And yes I 100% put "Dicke Titten" on her stereo and sang along after probably my 4th glass of real German riesling. Our texts are a random mixture of English and German, sometimes in the same sentence, and I love that.
Bae has been an old man and slept a lot today while I did some errands and paid the rent. Typical officer. My leave ends this weekend, but my watch team isn't scheduled to work, so I got some extra time to regulate to Bahrain time and the night shift schedule.
