Remember, Eurowings does not accept requests for tickets booked through third party travel agents. You should contact the interested party directly.

Eurowings Name Change Offline
When you decide to farm traditional tactics, you will have several options to choose from. Eurowings accepts name change/correction requests through the following means:

Eurowings Name Change Fee
Eurowings will charge a Eurowings name change fee for changing the passenger's name on a price ticket. The rate varies by rate type and vacation location. It is essential to verify that the name change fee is similar to any fee distinction that may apply. The fee is non-refundable and must be paid at the time the alternate name is requested.
Eurowings Name Change Policy:
Eurowings allows passengers to change the passenger's name on their ticket, a problem in favorable situations. Business naming policy varies by rate type and vacation location. Here are some key points to note about Eurowings' name change policy:
Name changes are not allowed for all rate types. Passengers must test their fare policies before creating a name exchange request.
Name changes are allowed only for the entire itinerary and no longer for male or female flight segments.
Name changes are allowed only for the original passenger and not for a new passenger.
Name changes are only allowed for the same course and on the same travel dates as the single booking.
Name corrections can be made within 24 hours of booking your flight.
The charge varies by fare type and vacation location, so passengers should contact Eurowings immediately to verify the price.
Name changes are only allowed for the same passenger on the same flight and cannot be transferred to another character.
It's critical to note that not all fares are eligible for a name change anymore.
It's also worth noting that it may not be possible to change the name for some reservations, as well as organization reservations; In these cases, passengers must contact a third-party travel site to request a refund or cancellation.
Eurowings Name Correction
If you have made a small mistake in your name, including a misspelling, you can ask Eurowings for a name correction instead of a name change. A name correction is priceless and can be done through the same process as a name exchange. However, name corrections are issued for approval through Eurowings and are best allowed for minor errors.

Thru-hikers Got Kicked Off a Plane Because They Smelled
I remember a rendezvous with my wife after several sweaty, hot weeks on the PCT some years ago when our first act, at her insistence, was to purchase new, clean clothing (to the extent possible) from the gift shop at the Crater Lake Lodge. This was replicated at the Seiad Valley Cafe and Store some years later. In both cases, I had managed to bath and wash clothing beforehand but my clothing was irreparably smelly. I was oblivious as long as I was outdoors and with other similarly odiferous colleagues but once in the confined spaces of civilization, it quickly became overpowering. So I can empathize with the crew and passengers of this Frontier Airlines flight.
This is an excerpt of a longer article authored by Kathryn Miles, Outside magazine, October, 2019.
On October 15, two Appalachian Trail thru-hikers were escorted off a Frontier Airlines flight at Boston’s Logan airport. The duo (who asked not to be named) had just completed their northbound hike and said they stopped to shower and change into clean clothes before arriving at the airport. Nevertheless, shortly after boarding, they were approached by crew members, who said they would not be allowed to fly because at least one of them had what was deemed to be offensive body odor. The hikers were walked off the plane, provided with travel-size toiletry bags, and told they could try to fly again the next day.
Back in the terminal, the hikers posted a tongue-in-cheek photo on a Facebook page for hikers. “First taste of the real world,” they wrote. “Now we’re in Boston with no way to get home.”
This elicited all kinds of responses from fellow backpackers, ranging from outrage (“Total bullshit! They should have let you fly!”) to empathy for the other passengers (“I wouldn’t even let my husband ride home in my car after he finished his hike!”). And it included, perhaps not surprisingly, all kinds of advice, ranging from the obvious (“Did you try deodorant?”) to the downright dangerous (“Douse yourself in Fabreze and rub hand sanitizer in your armpits!”).
I contacted both hikers, along with Frontier. The two backpackers and the airline both said there had been some extenuating circumstances that hadn’t been made clear in the viral Facebook post—namely, that the hikers were flying on buddy passes (standby tickets provided to airline employees), because one of the hiker’s relatives works for the company. A Frontier spokesperson explained that passengers flying on these nonrevenue-generating tickets are held to a higher standard for personal hygiene. But, like most airlines, Frontier also has a general policy concerning such matters.
They are far from alone. Last year, a family of three was escorted off an American Airlines flight after passengers complained about what they called offensive body odor. The airline booked the family on another flight and gave them vouchers for meals and a hotel.
It’s obviously not for us to say whether any of these individuals smelled offensive when they boarded their respective flights. But if you’ve spent any time around long-distance backpackers or other endurance athletes, you know the funk is real. So how can you make sure you get home after your next big adventure? Here are a few tips to get you past more than security.
Read the Airline Policy Before You Fly
I reached out to several major airlines. Of those that responded to my inquiries, all have policies concerning personal hygiene. An American Airlines representative pointed me to the fine print on its tickets, which state that all passengers must “be respectful that your odor isn’t offensive (unless it’s caused by a disability or illness).” Delta stipulates that you can be removed if your “hygiene or odor creates an unreasonable risk of offense or annoyance to other passengers.” Ditto for Southwest and all members of the Lufthansa group. The former told me it handles each potential BO situation on a case-by-case basis. A rep from Lufthansa told me, “We rely on our crew to use fair, reasonable judgement in making such a decision. Our guests’ safety and comfort is of the utmost priority, and they are asked to make decisions that ensure both.”
Technically, none of these airlines have to rebook you or compensate you for your ticket, but most of the representatives I spoke with said they will make every attempt possible to get you on another flight—provided you smell better by then.
Know the Science
We have two major types of sweat glands in our bodies, says Dr. Marlyanne Pol-Rodriguez, a dermatologist and clinical assistant professor at the Stanford Medicine Outpatient Center. Eccrine glands, which are located near the surface of the skin, are pretty much everywhere on our bodies. They secrete a mixture of water, electrolytes, and salt, which is virtually odor-free. Apocrine glands, on the other hand, are located primarily in our armpits, chest, and genital region. These glands secrete a combination of sweat and oil, which feeds bacteria located on our bodies. When that bacteria breaks down thicker, richer sweat, it results in odor, says Pol-Rodriguez.
Be Proactive
According to Pol-Rodriguez, one way to prevent excessive body odor from accumulating is to use antibacterial soap when you shower at hiker hostels or motels. And while hikers are often loathe to carry any more weight than they have to, Pol-Ridriguez says it’s definitely worth it to stash a small pouch of baby wipes in your pack and use them often. The good news: because apocrine glands are so centrally located, you can really economize on where you wipe, and make that quarter-pound bag of baby wipes last for days.
Skip the Chemicals
Pol-Rodriguez is pretty wary of any body-odor-removal regimen that includes applying cleaners or high doses of hand sanitizer or cologne directly to your skin. “There’s just too much in them that might irritate the skin—especially if you have to sit for a long flight,” she says. If you think you need to go beyond soap and wipes, she recommends using superdiluted vinegar (as little as a tablespoon or two per cup of water) when you bathe.
Clothes and Gear Smell Worse Than You
It’s particularly hard to get odor out of clothes, says Pol-Rodriguez. She favors products like OxiClean for getting funk out of garments you really want to hang onto. If you or someone you know can ship you some clean clothes before you board a plane, that’s half the battle.

Can Families Sit Together on the Plane without Paying Extra?
Can Families Sit Together on the Plane without Paying Extra?
With the rise of basic economy and budget airline models that charge extra for seat selection, it’s become a lot harder for groups, but especially families with kids, to generate seats next to each other. And honestly, that is a sore location for many parents who travel: When a child is above two years old, they are typically no longer considered a lap-seat infant. In addition to, of course, small children desire to be with their parents—so should you have to pay more just because you're a household if not enough free, consecutive seats are left? Airline family with a capacity of policies vary by air travel, but the condition has seemingly become so widespread that the Department of Vehicles (DOT) is addressing it, though not guaranteeing you won’t need to pay for it.
The DOT has a new section on the Aviation Consumer Protection website focused on airline family seating. It provides common guidance about how exactly best to arrange family seating if you would like to sit together, together with links to family seating policies of the nine biggest U. H. airlines. The particular department advises family travelers to file a complaint if they experience “a problem” with securing seats with each other but stops short of saying that families will be able to sit together without paying. Here’s the DOT’s series of common-sense recommendations:
Before reserving, understand your airline’s seats policies: And know that “Many airlines allow consumers to reserve seats next to one another without paying an additional fee. ” Guide tickets as early as possible: “The earlier you book your family’s travel, the more likely it is that you will be able to reserve seats that are next to each other. In case you tried to book your tickets earlier, and seats are certainly not available together, contact the flight through reservations to inquire whether additional seats will end up available later. ” Keep all family members on the same reservation record: “Airlines generally know travelers fit in to one party only if all the travellers are on the same reservation record. Airlines assigning or reassigning seats give priority to parents and children on the same reservation. ” After reserving, if you can’t at first be seated together, contact your airline and ask it to accommodate your loved ones: “Discuss with the flight your concerns about a child being seated by yourself. Even if the airline is not able to seat all the family with each other, they may be able to assure you that each child is sitting next to a grownup member of the family. If you reserved parents and children on different reservations, contact the airline as quickly as possible to ask if the party can be put on the same reservation record or have their reservations cross-referenced in the booking information. ” If you guide via a 3rd party online agency, verify reservations and seat assignments directly with the airline: “If you failed to book your travel directly with a flight, obtain or confirm your seat assignments directly with the airline as quickly as possible before the day of travel. This can be done either on the airline’s website or over the phone by contacting bookings. ” Confirm reservations and seat assignments again before you leave for the airport: “You may wish to confirm your chair assignments before you would normally go to the airport as your chair assignments might have changed after booking due to an aircraft substitution with a different seating arrangement. If the seat assignments have altered, you can contact the airline to ask for help. ” Arrive at the airport early to leave enough time to make last-minute adjustments, if needed: “Airlines will do the actual can at the airport to help households who self-identify to their agents as needing to sit together. Set up air travel is unable to seats everyone together, they may be able to ensure you that each child is seated next to an adult relative. ” After traveling, report any problems to the DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION: “If you should have a challenge during your vacation, you may file a complaint with the air travel or DOT. The suggestions you provide to the airline may influence the way an airline treats families traveling together. :. The Department also directs every family seating issue it receives about an airline to that air travel. Airlines must respond to written consumer complaints. Your current comments or complaint will be reviewed by the Department and air travel. ” The particular DOT has not done is put into action any rules requiring flight companies to seat families collectively. And it’s evidently upwards to you to decide on the correct airline and cabin class that would not charge you for seat selection, and even then you might need to utilize the airline to make certain you're seated together. Here are the airline family with a capacity of policies, in line with the DOT, for nine airlines: Alaska American Airlines LAN Delta Avianca Lufthansa JetBlue SAS Spirit United Airlines COPA Airline KLM When you’re traveling with children, it’s smart to avoid budget airlines like Spirit—which always charges for seat selection—altogether if you’ll need air travel family seating Please reach out to me with questions or suggestions, i will be happy to help. /Simon

Airline Retailing Market Service Type, Application and Technology to 2027
According to the new research report published by The Insight Partners, titled “Airline Retailing Market - Global Analysis and Forecast to 2027”, the global airline retailing market is expected to reach US$ 27.66 Bn by 2027, registering a CAGR of 16.4% during the forecast period 2019-2027.
The airline retail market is witnessing growth through the pre-boarding segment. This is due to the fact that the major airlines are offering an opportunity to the flyers to pre-book their merchandises, accessories, alcohol, and beauty products, among others during ticket booking. The airline customers also have the flexibility to purchase the products any time before their flights depending on the airline’s terms & conditions. The key benefit of the pre-booking of products is that customers can choose the delivery of the product at the airport or on-board. This benefits the passengers by carrying a lesser quantity of the luggage, which further reduces the risk of incurring excess baggage fees.

The post-board retailing segment is experiencing turbulence in the current years, as several well-established full service carriers are ceasing their in-flight duty-free retail segment. This is majorly due to the rising trend of airport shopping and online shopping. To counter the trend of shopping at the airports, various airlines are partnering with retailers, and are offering products at discounted prices. Despite this strategy, multiple airlines are still facing a decline in their on-board retail revenues.
The future of the airline retailing market is prominent attributing to the fact that, several airline companies are introducing advanced technologies to boost their retailing business. The increasing trend of adoption of budding technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and analytics into retailing sector ensures the airlines to understand customer preferences. This enables the company to invest new and flexible product offerings, which is foreseen to drive the airline retailing market. Moreover, the increasing number of low cost carriers offering both pre-boarding and post-boarding duty-free shopping opportunities is anticipated to attract a significant percentage of air passengers, thus, catalyzing the growth of airline retailing market.
The global airline retailing market has been derived from market trends and revenue generation factors from five different regions across the globe namely; North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, Middle East, and Africa, and South America. Europe is expected to contribute largest market share by the year 2027.

Cosi raises €5M for its ‘full-stack’ hospitality alternative to boutique hotels
Cosi, a new Berlin-based startup operating in the hospitality space with an alternative to boutique hotels and managed short-stay apartments, has picked up €5 million in seed funding pre-launch.
Leading the round are venture capital firms Cherry Ventures and e.ventures, with participation from a number of travel, real estate and hospitality entrepreneurs and experts. They include Nils Regge (founder of HomeToGo and Dreamlines), Gleb Tritus (MD Lufthansa Innovation Hub), Manuel Stotz (founder of Kingsway Capital), Mato Peric (founder of Immo), Andreas Brehmke, Loric Ventures, and Lions Venture.
That’s quite a line up for a company that won’t launch for another few months, but is no doubt based in part on the track record of Cosi’s founders.
They are Christian Gaiser, the startup’s CEO, who preciously founded Bonial.com, the local shopping platform sold to Axel Springer in 2011; Dimitri Chandogin, who co-founded Doc+, a prominent digital healthcare provider in Russia; and CTO Gerhard Maringer, who has a background in fintech and previously built ForexFix, an FX hedging platform.
“More and more guests prefer to stay in a unique apartment versus a boring hotel, i.e. travelers tend to book their stay at a private host via Airbnb. [However], the experience can be frustrating though due to lack of quality and service: long check-in/check-out times, poor interior design, lack of cleanliness, not enough linen, no service hotline in case of questions, to name a few examples,” Gaiser tells TechCrunch.
“Many guests, therefore, decide not to stay in a unique home for quality reasons. Cosi solves this problem as a full-stack hospitality brand: We control the entire guest journey from end-to-end”.
To offer a “full-stack” hospitality service that hopes to compete with well-run boutique hotels or traditional local managed apartments, Gaiser says the company signs long term leases with property owners, and then furnishes those apartments itself to “control” the interior design experience. “On top of that, we offer a digital service along the entire guest journey from initial contact to loyalty. Finally, we rent out our apartments short-term as a hotel replacement,” he explains.
That requires technology to drive “the entire value chain,” and Gaiser points out that the tech guests experience directly is only the tip of the iceberg. “Running a hospitality business requires a lot of tools in the background for housekeeping, maintenance, yield management, to name a few, that will create an efficiency edge for us,” says the Cosi co-founder.
With regards to target customer, Cosi broadly covers travellers that want the quality assurance of a hotel but appreciate the unique design and “coziness” of a personal home. More specifically, the company has two main target groups in mind: tourists that spend a few days in Berlin to immerse themselves in the local culture and history (“live like a real Berliner”), and business travellers that need to stay several weeks or months and are fed up with the traditional hotel experience.
“Cosi creates a new category, but the closest direct competitors include smaller boutique hotels or traditional local serviced apartment operators for tourists,” says Gaiser. “In a broader sense, we also compete with the big hotel companies like Marriot or Hilton in business travel”.
There are potential U.S. competitors, too, with Sonder and Lyric operating a similar model. “They might also look into Europe,” concedes Gaiser, “[but] it will be challenging for them to comply with local regulations and to establish real estate relationships. It is a very local game”.

New Post has been published on https://travelonlinetips.com/flybmi-why-did-airline-collapse-and-what-are-passengers-options/
Flybmi – why did airline collapse and what are passengers’ options?
Another airline has collapsed: Flybmi, based at East Midlands airport, has stopped flying and gone into administration. These are the key questions and answers.
Who was Flybmi?
It has a long history as the “regional” arm of British Midland, later BMI. When British Airways took over BMI in 2012, BA said it was uninterested in the regional operation. BMI Regional, as it was initially known, was bought by a group of investors who hoped they could make it into a flourishing airline charging premium fares for niche routes.

Where did Flybmi actually fly?
From regional UK airports (Aberdeen, Bristol, East Midlands and Newcastle) to Continental and Scandinavian destinations including Brussels, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Munich, Oslo, Paris and Stavanger.
It also operated the heavily subsidised route between City of Derry and London Stansted.
How big was Flybmi?
The airline carried 522,000 passengers on 29,000 flights in 2018. That is as many as Ryanair flies in a day-and-a-half.
Why did it close?
The airline was heavily loss-making, and no-one was prepared to put in extra funding. The average passenger load per flight was just 18, meaning even the small regional jet planes flown by Flybmi were less than half-full, The typical Ryanair departure has 10 times as many passengers.
Since Flybmi split away from BMI, investors have pumped in £40m, which represents a subsidy of about £13 per passenger ever flown.
The airline cites uncertainty over the UK leaving the European Union as a key factor, saying: “The challenges, particularly those created by Brexit, have proven to be insurmountable.
“Current trading and future prospects have also been seriously affected by the uncertainty created by the Brexit process, which has led to our inability to secure valuable flying contracts in Europe and lack of confidence around Flybmi’s ability to continue flying between destinations in Europe.”
What happens to people who are currently away from home and were planning to fly back on Flybmi?
Tickets issued directly by Flybmi are worthless. Grounded passengers will become unsecured creditors of an airline with no assets. However, other carriers will step in to offer “rescue” fares on replacement routes. For example, Ryanair is selling £9.99 tickets between Belfast International and Stansted for passengers on the City of Derry route.
Travel insurance may cover additional costs, such ground transport and hotel accommodation.
Passengers with Flybmi flights that were sold by “codeshare” partners – Lufthansa, Brussels Airlines, Turkish Airlines, Loganair, Air France and Air Dolomiti – should contact the carrier that issued the tickets about alternative flights.
I have a future booking. What are my options?
For bookings made with Flybmi, the airline has no assets and will never fly again. The standard procedure will be for passengers to contact their card issuer to begin the process of obtaining a refund.
For codeshare flights, the airline that sold the ticket should offer alternatives.
The very small number of passengers whose bookings were made as part of a package holiday should contact the tour operator to discuss options.
What happens to routes which were operated by Flybmi – will someone else step in?
Possibly, if they believe there is a market. On the City of Derry-Stansted link, the availability of a generous subsidy means that another airline is likely to take over very soon. A route such as Bristol to Dusseldorf, connecting two big cities, may prove appealing to other carriers. But routes to Brussels may be seen as unappealing given the UK’s imminent departure from the European Union.
Why are times so tough?
This winter is proving extremely cruel to small airlines, which have high fixed costs and, currently, very low revenues. It has precipitated the collapse of Primera Air, Cobalt of Cyprus and Germania before Flybmi.
Flybe, which is continuing operations as normal, has been rescued by a cash injection from a consortium involving Virgin Atlantic, Stobart Air and a US hedge fund – which bought it for just £2.2m.
Small regional airlines based in the UK are particularly vulnerable. Return journeys on domestic flights are subject to £26 in Air Passenger Duty, placing them at an immediate disadvantage. And whenever a route becomes successful, it is likely that a bigger player will elbow in with larger planes and lower fares.
Support free-thinking journalism and subscribe to Independent Minds
Demand across Europe is extremely weak. Even during half-term I am flying from Luton to Lisbon for £32. Later on this month there are plenty of flights to France, Spain, Germany and Italy that are being sold at a loss – for less than the £13 the airline must pay in Air Passenger Duty, such as Manchester to Cologne in Germany and Stansted to Castellon in Spain.
With passengers spoiled for choice and keen to find low fares, airlines with high costs – as small regional airlines tend to be – watch their passengers disappear to bigger rivals.
Who’s next to fail?
Speculation is rife in aviation circles about possible collapses. If travellers shy away from airlines that are rumoured to be on the brink, these can prove self-fulfilling prophecies. The best advice is to ensure that flight bookings are protected – paid by credit card and, if possible, bought as part of a package.
I have been waiting for €250 in compensation from Flybmi following a severely delayed flight. Will I ever see the money?
No.

Coronavirus and Travel: What You Need to Know (Plus Resources)
Posted: 6/18/20 | June 18th, 2020
Over the last six months, Coronavirus has devastated the world. Millions have gotten sick, hundreds of thousands have lost their lives, and entire economies have been shut down. In just a matter of weeks, entire countries completely locked themselves down and closed their borders to visitors.
For the first time since probably World War II, travel — an industry that relies on human movement and employs 10% of the global workforce — completely stopped.
Now, as COVID-19 recedes in some places, many countries are slowly starting to reopen to tourists.
While I personally think it’s still best to wait a little longer before taking an international trip, that doesn’t mean we can’t start looking at the current situation to get a sense of how we can best plan our future trips.
There are a lot of variables and everything is still changing.
And that creates a lot of questions.
How do you know which countries are open? How do we find out new visitation rules? Will travel insurance apply during the pandemic? What is flying going to be like? Are hotels and hostels safe? What attractions are open?
To help you figure out what to do and where to find information, I created this post to get the ball rolling. (Note: This post will be updated as more information becomes available.)
What Destinations are Open?
The list of countries that are opening in the coming weeks and months grows every day. Some are opening for all international visitors, while others are opening only for neighboring countries. Some countries, like the US and Indonesia and Australia, have bans on visitors from certain countries. Tahiti is making people show a negative test result within 72 hours of their flight. Same for Austria (or you can do a test on arrival). On the other hand, Cambodia wants a $3,000 deposit to cover any potential COVID expenses.
In short, there’s a lot of varying rules to sort through.
That means you’ll need to do specific research based on where you want to go if you want to travel this summer or fall. Luckily, there are a few websites that will make that research straightforward.
First, here is a helpful (but not user-friendly) map from the International Air Transport Association showing you which countries are allowing flights.
Second, The Points Guy and Travel Off Path have breakdowns on the current travel rules for virtually every country in the world.
Additionally, if you’re heading to Europe, this official map from the European Union will let you know which countries are open.
Third, check the official government’s Foreign Office or tourism board as they will have the most up-to-date information.
If you’re not sure how to find those websites, simply Google “(country name) foreign office” or “(country name) official tourism board.” Additionally, “(country name) COVID travel update” will get you a good list of official websites too. They’ll have the best information on potential quarantine rules, test requirements, and other restrictions.
Where Can I Find the Most Current Case Count Information?
If you want to see the current status of a destination’s number of active cases, this interactive map from Johns Hopkins University is kept up-to-date. However, I prefer Worldometers because it’s a bit more user friendly and you can parse down the data a bit more.
What are Airlines Doing?
Flying for the foreseeable future is going to be a lot different. Currently, most airlines are requiring passengers to wear masks, though enforcement is inconsistent. The boarding process has also changed to reduce interactions and support physical distancing.
Some airlines (such as Southwest) are not booking any middle seats to maintain a safer distance between passengers. Not every airline is doing that, though, and while most flights are still under-booked, I’ve seen images of some rather full flights.
Here’s a post with more information from The Points Guy if you want to read more.
As for cleaning, many airlines are majorly disinfecting planes in between every flight. For current policies, here’s a list of the major airlines and their current procedures:
United
American Airlines
Delta
Southwest Airlines
British Airways
JetBlue
Air Canada
Air France
Emirates
Lufthansa
If you are flying or otherwise traveling alongside other people, here’s some important hygiene advise:
Wash your hands frequently (or consider wearing latex gloves).
Wear a mask.
Refrain from touching your face.
Wipe down your seat or seating area with disinfectant wipes (because people are gross and so are planes).
On the plus side, many airlines have changed their cancelation policies, which means you can often change your flights without penalty now as well (check your specific airline to see if that’s an option before you book). I doubt that will last a long time but, as airlines try to get people in seats, they will make changing your flight easier as a way to do so!
What are Hotels, Hostels, and Airbnb Doing?
Accommodations in many cities have been closed or forced to operate at reduced capacity. Most of the major chains that are open (or reopening) have committed to enhanced cleaning routines. Some of the key changes hotels are embracing are:
Temperature/health checks of guests on arrival.
Enhanced disinfection and cleaning of the check-in counter and common areas (pools, fitness centers, etc.).
Adjustments to common areas to maintain social distancing.
Extra disinfection for the most-used items in hotel rooms (door handles, remotes, light switches, etc.).
Most hotels have also changed their cancelation policy to make bookings more flexible since the situation is so fluid. Here are statements and policies from the major hotel chains so you can review their changes and commitments for yourself:
Hilton
Marriott
Hyatt
InterContinental Hotel Group
Wyndham
And if you’re looking to learn more about Airbnb and how it is responding to the current situation, here is their Coronavirus policy and update page.
As for hostels, there’s so many that it’s hard to say what all the hostels in the world are doing. There’s no hostel association where members have to adhere to certain guidelines like in other industries. But here are a few policies from some of the larger hostel chains to give you a sense of the industry right now:
HI Hostels
Generator Hostels
St. Christopher’s Hostels
Hostelworld
Be sure to reach out to the hostels directly as they will be best positioned to answer your questions.
What About Tour Companies?
Many tour companies are not even selling tours right now so you’ll need to check ahead to see what companies are still offering tours during your travel dates. Here are some travel updates and policy changes from my favorite tour companies:
Take Walks
EatWith
Fat Tire Tours
Intrepid Travel
Be sure to double-check the company’s cancelation and refund policies in case they start selling tours again but have to quickly shut down in case of another update. You don’t want to be stuck without money.
For everyday activities in a city, simply check the local tourism office. They will have up-to-date information on what attractions are doing as well as information on changes to public transportation.
Will Travel Insurance Cover Me?
Most travel insurance does not apply during a pandemic. This is especially true if your government has issued warnings not to visit specific regions or countries. In fact, some travel insurance companies are not even selling insurance right now in light of the situation. Eventually, as travel restarts, that will change. If you want to make sure you’re covered, here’s what I suggest:
Purchase “cancel for any reason” insurance policies or plans that include comprehensive trip interruption and cancelation coverage.
Make every purchase on a travel credit card that also has insurance as a backup.
Visit only destinations that do not have any government warnings.
Contact the insurance company before you book and speak to someone directly about their COVID exclusions.
What If I Can’t Quarantine for Two Weeks?
Many destinations are requiring visitors to quarantine on arrival. Contact the foreign office for more information to ensure you aren’t going to spend your entire vacation in lockdown (travelers are already finding out about quarantine rules too late).
The situation is changing and, if you end up on a flight with someone who tests positive, the country could force you to quarantine. It’s a real risk. I would say that if you are unable to quarantine for two weeks during or after your trip, don’t go international. Stay local.
***
It’s nice the world is starting to open up again but, personally, I think it’s best to focus on travel within your own borders right now until the international situation becomes a bit better organized, guidelines are clearer, and we see the clearer effects of reopening on destinations. I’m traveling domestically but internationally? I’m very much in the “wait and see” camp.
But, with guidelines coming out relating to COVID and travel, you can at least start to understand rules and what to expect for when you do start to travel!
Book Your Trip: Logistical Tips and Tricks
Book Your Flight Find a cheap flight by using Skyscanner or Momondo. They are my two favorite search engines, because they search websites and airlines around the globe so you always know no stone is being left unturned.
Book Your Accommodation You can book your hostel with Hostelworld as they have the largest inventory. If you want to stay somewhere other than a hostel, use Booking.com, as they consistently return the cheapest rates for guesthouses and hotels.
Don’t Forget Travel Insurance Travel insurance will protect you against illness, injury, theft, and cancellations. It’s comprehensive protection in case anything goes wrong. I never go on a trip without it, as I’ve had to use it many times in the past. I’ve been using World Nomads for ten years. My favorite companies that offer the best service and value are:
World Nomads (for everyone below 70)
Insure My Trip (for those 70 and over)
Looking for the best companies to save money with? Check out my resource page for the best companies to use when you travel! I list all those I use — and they’ll save you time and money too!

Travelmag – Flying Business Course with Swiss: will not hassle
I needed to pay a go to to a glorious pal in Thailand this February (2020). Acquiring there by air signifies a non-prevent flight of near 12/13 a number of hours from the British isles, or, as usually marketed, by one explicit of the important thing Heart Japanese airways, with a mean three hour transit. Equally have rewards and drawbacks…the non-quit carriers are far extra highly-priced however reasonably significantly much less tiring, though the 1-stoppers sample is about 6 hours to first forestall and the disembarkation, adopted by the transit time, the re-boarding of plane quantity two and one other 6 as well as hrs to Bangkok.
In my mid eighties and disabled, performing both in an monetary system seat wouldn’t be doable, so my solely possibility was that can assist you save-up my pennies, reside much more frugally for 9 months, search for for an airline which might the 2 cut back the over-all flight durations, with a small transit and provide a enterprise enterprise class ticket at a aggressive worth.
My lookups and ideas from trip corporations, was to ponder Swiss Air, as a result of it had flights from London to Zurich in 1hr 45 minutes, then so much lower than 2 hour transit onto aircraft quantity two, then non-halt from Zurich to Bangkok. The fee was aggressive…not the most cost effective…however simply inside my deliberate funds.
So, booked the flights for all four legs in Group Course, chosen aisle seats because of the reality of my strolling subject, organized for Distinctive Steerage (wheelchair) in the middle of and paid in complete.
Fast forward now to departure day…11th February 2020.
Following a three hour car journey to Heathrow Terminal 2, look at-in went effectively. I requested if the flight was on time…the treatment was “So far as we all know.” On reflection, I did think about that was considerably an odd response.
In any case, wheelchair to the Lufthansa Lounge. Good, roomy and soothing with greater than sufficient big selection of meals stuff and drink to fulfill most appetites. Flight was due to to decide on off at 13.45 hrs, so I had a great deal of time to take a seat and skim. Boarding was owing to think about location at 13.10hrs. When that point got here – and went – I enquired on the desk. “Oh, the plane hasn’t even landed nonetheless, the data board will proceed to maintain you present.” It did…to some extent!
Fairly a number of a disgruntled passenger was overheard as to what was seemingly on. Inevitably, boarding was launched at near 14.25hrs and the push to the gate commenced (me turning into in a wheelchair). Boarding passes checked and passengers despatched down the ramp to the plane’s doorway. What then? OOPS!!! doorway barred since cleaning crew ended up nonetheless attempting to make the aircraft all set for its new travellers. They failed. The aircraft’s cleanliness was a lot from passable.
Simply after boarding and doorway shut, the Captain made an announcement to the impression of ‘we have to not fret, primarily as a result of there was a 250kph tail wind, which might get us to Zurich in superb time for our various flight connections.’ What a forecast that turned out to be. Much more about that rapidly.
Shock, shock, there was NO Enterprise Class cabin on this A320, solely row upon row of triple monetary state seats with no leisure screens, practically no seat adjustment…and…to make issues positively horrible for me…all aisle seats have been being taken, so I skilled to squeeze throughout to accumulate a window seat. This so-named Enterprise enterprise Class location was divided from the rear of the aircraft by a cloth curtain. Is that this what I had compensated for and been suckered into by phony selling as to the WONDERFULL Swiss Air Group Class that includes?
The cabin crew acted in what I might say ‘in a robotic vogue’…definitely their human physique language proven that straightforward reality. For us, it was a situation of grin and bear it.
On nearing Zurich it was absolutely noticeable to me (an ex Non-public Pilot), that our aircraft was merely circling in a retaining pattern. So, individuals, guess what? Spherical and spherical – and spherical – and spherical for about 30 minutes.
A show display screen hooked as much as the ceiling sprang into lifetime warning travellers that the brand new approximated touchdown time would imply a number of connecting flights could be missed. THEY Had been. Of system by the extremely level that I’m crafting this, proves that we did land.
As to my onward flight to Bangkok…it was from one other terminal. My wheelchair pusher was nice (thanks individual) and rushed me off the aircraft, alongside the corridors, on to the electrical powered coach and to the boarding gate. I used to be the Previous passenger to entry there and boarded solely since that plane’s departure time skilled been delayed by 10 minutes.
Speak about pressure! Had my baggage been off loaded and reloaded? A distinct stressing issue however one explicit in extra of which I skilled no management.
To sum up Swiss Air’s answer from Heathrow to Zurich, was extra like a script from a Fred Carno silent movie.
Now to the flight from Zurich to Bangkok.
The plane was a Boeing 777. It DID have a unbiased Enterprise enterprise Course Cabin, with the accoutrements envisioned. A fairly nice leisure process, good good high quality and correctly served meals and a great deal of storage room throughout the seat. That itself, having stated that, was a disappointment. Whereas a push button handle method make it doable for it to be positioned in numerous codecs, the padding was effectively worn and awkward to the stage one’s posterior was regularly educated of the metal development beneath it.
The over-all cabin format, I might say was tough edged, boxy with lights not conducive to entire peace or tried relaxation. When when in comparison with the likes of the merchandise these sorts of airways as Emirates, Etihad, Thai and Qatar give, Swiss Air pales into insignificance. The cabin crew labored as proficiently as they may however have been being definitely hampered by the deficiency of portions. An illustration of this was. that there was some 30 minutes wait amongst the serving of appetisers to the first class and a equal wait to the sipping of a espresso or a liqueur.
The above is the account of my preliminary two flights. True to say, I used to be relieved to get to my resort in Bangkok.
MY RETURN TURNED OUT TO BE Fairly Distinctive Story.
4 occasions afterwards, proper after arriving at my buddy’s retreat, I, out of the blue and in his existence, endured a critical struggling in my greater remaining higher physique. Nevertheless my location was greater than a 100 miles from the closest Bangkok hospital. He, and different individuals current, strongly inspired me to scale back my ready 21 day go to small and get my flight modified to the upcoming working day. It was a no brainer. My private prevalent sense and logic shouted that this kind of a range was correct.
My buddy right away phoned Swiss Air in Bangkok, who verified my {qualifications} and reserving references, additionally stating that space was obtainable for the 2 flights again once more to the Uk the next working day. Having stated that, they talked about, even these a quite simple administration alteration must be designed by the journey agent with whom I had designed the reserving. Such was agreed.
My shut buddy then contacted that firm, Enterprise enterprise Class Worldwide and spelled out the sudden emergency and requested the rework of return date to the up coming day.
That company’s response just about prompted the proprietor of the retreat to throw-up in anger. It was…Sure we are able to do this however the shopper must pay again us UP Entrance, the charge to take action. It is going to be… £1145.00. Definitely of us, that was the determine demanded. There was NO textual content of sympathy, no figuring out. It was a scenario of pay NOW or actually don’t fly.
Proudly owning no possibility, I paid. That normally implies that Swiss Air have now charged me your complete promoting worth Additional for a solitary leg once I had by now paid for Equally legs.
Is that this a greatest occasion of Firm Greed at it’s actually worst?
I received’t say a lot too so much in regards to the return flights, besides that the last word leg from Zurich to Heathrow seen me as quickly as over again cramped into an financial system seat once I had paid for Group Class.
Lastly, I need to say that this right account is supposed to counsel any Uk passenger questioning of using Swiss Air to be fairly, fairly conscious to not be misled by incorrect and glowing commercials of its items.
